Authors have been conducting research on autonomous loading operation by wheel loader. Autonomous loading cycles has been demonstrated with real size experimental model. In V shape loading operation, travelling between scooping point and dumping point is dominant factor for cycle time of the operation. The positions of scooping point and dumping point changes with advancing the operation. In the developed system, path planning is performed at the beginning of every cycle. The path is formed by combination of curve and straight path elements. During travelling on the planned path, path following control is applied on the loader to keep position error in narrow range. Positioning of the loader is based on dead reckoning with correction by global positioning system (GPS) data. In a process of path following control, control value for steering angle is determined based on position error in lateral direction. Proposed method of path planning and position control is installed and tested in the real size experimental model. The detail and results will be described in the paper.

Epithermal gold is hosted by late Middle Miocene Okiduse Volcanics on Woodlark Island. Dating of associated alteration minerals indicate mineralisation to be broadly contemporaneous with volcanism (12.2 - 12.5 m.y.) and is probably related to subduction of the Solomon Sea plate along the Trobriand Trench. Mineralisation is polymetallic and structurally controlled. Pyrite, sphalerite, galena and minor chalcopyrite occur in steeply dipping fracture zones and/or hydrothermal breccia bodies associated with mixed clay-pyrite alteration envelopes. These envelopes occur within a terrane of regionally propylitised high-K, calc-alkaline andesites and related epizonal subvolcanics. Gangue minerals include quartz, calcite, dolomite and minor anhydrite. High level advanced argillic alteration and siliceous cap rocks are not present but may have been eroded off the top of the system. Fluid inclusion and stable isotope data suggest that the carbonates and paragenetically associated auriferous base metal sulphides probably deposited from an isotopically evolved (+8%. 180) reduced hydrothermal fluid sourced from underlying sedimentary rocks. The fluid was predominantly of low salinity (0-4 wt % NaCl equivalent) and had a temperature of about 270¦C at the time of boiling and mineral deposition.

Several factors contributing to the loss of fibre during treatment are a function of the paragenesis of the veins. The occurrence, of magnetite from the cap rock within the veins prevents complete fiberization. There is a marked similarity between these veins and those in the Koegas-Westerberg area of South Africa.INTRODUCTIONAn investigation of the mineralogy of the Wittenoom Gorge crocidolite veins was undertaken in the latter part of 1962 at the request of the Colonial Sugar Refining Co. Ltd. It was anticipated that such a study might reveal the cause or causes of the lack of recovery of some asbestos during beneficiation. Some interesting features of the mineralogy and paragenesis of the crocidolite veins become apparent, but it is emphasized that the investigation is far from complete, as the study did not extend to the field occurrence.The samples examined were selected from the mill and from the untreated ore.GEOLOGICAL SETTINGWittenoom Gorge is situated on the Fortescue River in the Hammersley Ranges of Western Australia and is one of several gorges in these ranges, on the sides of which 'crocidoIite asbestos is known to occur. These' rocks are part of the Nullagine Formation (Proterozoic) and are usually either horizontal or gently folded. The importance of the Broken Hill mining field may be gauged from the fact that since the discovery of the ore-body in 1883, till the end of 1931, approximately 43,000,000 tons of ore have been raised.The lode covers a length of 31 miles, and in places is upwards of 300 ft. in width. The ore, as at present mined, consists of an intimately blended mixture of lead and zinc sulphides with silver and gangue minerals.Structurally the lode conveys the impression of a huge longitudinal arch (when viewed from the east or west), having its apex or crown near the centre of the field, in the leases of the Broken, Hill Proprietary Co. Ltd., where the lode outcropped at the surface.The minimum depth of the lode in the Proprietary mine was some 500 ft. from the surface, but huge undulations, having an average pitch of 45°, carry the extensions of the arch gradually deeper, to those places where active stoping operations are now in progress in the workings of the North mine at one extremity, and the South and Zinc Corporation mines at the other. The depth of the lode from the surface, as exposed at present, is approximately 1700 ft. at these extremities.The structure and physical character of the ore-body, and its containing walls, are so complex and varied that almost every type of mining problem is met with.

The Maragorik Prospect represents a partially eroded Pliocene acid sulphate style epithermal gold system hosted within the Sigule Volcanics and Riet Bed sediments which is inferred to have formed from a degassing porphyry body at depth. A regional sinistral rotation provided by transform faults associated with the opening of the Manus Basin imparts a dilational character to mineralised NE trending faults formed parallel to the Warangoi Graben. A controlled-source audio magneto-tellurics (CSAMT) survey has identified E-W trending buried conductors which may represent alteration formed within dilation zones. While some gold mineralisation occurs within vuggy silica at Palang Hill, the target is auriferous enargite (luzonite)-bearing breccias from the LK1 and Gureki areas.

The New Zealand microcontinent is relatively well endowed with gold deposits; its past gold production per unit area of 3.2 kg/km2 ranks high on a world scale. Total recorded production (1857 - 1986) is about 854 000 kg and most of this gold was mined between 1861 and 1920. There has been a strong revival in gold exploration and mining since 1979, with exploration expenditure of around $15 million per annum and a declared gold production in 1986 of 1265 kg (886 kg in 1985). In addition to numerous alluvial gold recovery plants working small to medium sized deposits (mainly in Westland and Otago), there are five medium to large projects that have started production (Martha Hill), or have reached advanced stages of construction (Grey River dredge), permitting (Golden Cross and Macraes) or exploration (Globe-Progress). Lignite deposits of Central Otago Miocene Dunstan Formation accumulated on a broad alluvial plain and on deltas that flanked a large freshwater lake. The regional subsurface distribution and configuration of the lignite-bearing strata are identified within the context of depositional systems and placed into a genetically defined stratigraphic framework. The stratigraphic and depositional models constructed, should form an integral part of the geological assessment process to guide future regional or mine based lignite drilling programmes. Further testing and evaluation of the commercialy important lignite deposits in the Blackstone and Roxburgh Coalfields are required to adequately characterise the lignites and their geological setting, particularly to select methods of mining and wise uses of the lignite.

The zinc-lead lode at Rosebery, on the West coast of Tasmania, has a total length of over 4000 ft. It consists of five elongated lenses parallel to the foliation planes of the quartz sericite schist, and is situated at the junction of the quartz sericite schist and a thin belt of slate. The lenses consist of massive, fine grained sulphide ore, with small amounts of quartz, barite, sericite and chlorite, and they terminate in masses of low grade ore. The gangue minerals increase in quantity in the low grade ore which includes small quantities of the manganese garnet, spessartite. The schist walls of the lenses are in places impregnated with lode minerals to a degree sufficient to permit them to be regarded as economic ore.The ore-bodies have developed from incoming mineral solutions by the replacement of the quartz sericite schist and are localised where the ore solutions have been confined by a relatively impervious slate band. The early stages of replacement of the schists are signified by the development of pyritic bands which are succeeded by a strong development of zinc blende. With ptogressive crystallisation, the character of the mineral solutions gradually changed and the development of galena, and its associated bournonite, became more important in the later stages.Remnants of the replaced schist, in the form of isolated wisps and schlieren of sericite and chlorite, are present in the ore body, more noticeably in the pyritic specimens. An important feature of the ore is the association of small ogllantities of gold with trahedrite.

The concentration of Mt. Morgan sulphide ore has always been attended by serious loss of gold. Until recently, with a simple selective flotation flowsheet, even the lowest grade of ore milled-about 2 dwt. per long ton-thislloss was 0·9 dwt., whilst for average to high-grade ore, 3·5 to 5 dwt., the figure was 1·5 to 2·0 dwt. Early in 1937 it was decided to equip the research laboratory for an investigation into the condition and location of the escaping gold and the physical and mineralogical barriers preventing its recovery.With the completion of: this equipment in July 1937, trial and error testing, which had been explored to exhaustion, was abandoned and a five months' research programme mapped out and commenced. Based on the knowledge so gained, a flowsheet combining primary desliming, bulk flotation of the natural slime, selective flotation of the deslimed fraction, and cyanidation of the selective flotation tailing was drafted and tried with encouraging results in a 70-lb. per hour pilot plant. This flowsheet, modified to meet current circumstances, is being dove-tailed into the existing 1,500-ton sulphide ore concentrator, though the cyanidation treatment is actually carried out in the oxidized ore mill, to which the flotation tails are pumped.RESEARCH EQUIPMENT(1) Five tube elutriator (Fig. 1) t built in the company's workshop.

This paper presents recent advancements in the MillMapper software technology, developed and used for thickness gauging of liners of cylindrical grinding mills used for mineral comminution. MillMapper uses calibrated laser scanner data captured inside a mill to determine thickness at several million points on all liner surfaces with millimetre accuracy. The paper is structured as follows. First, a review of the technology and its numerous advantages over existing techniques and the value it adds to operations are presented. These are followed by discussion of recently-implemented innovations, including improved visualisation and inspection tools, automatic ball charge volume measurement and automatic mill liner volume/weight measurement. Results from its application at several sites in Australia are presented throughout.

The mineralogy and textures of a portion oC ore from the 25 level northern orebody, North mine, Broken Hill are described. This ore, in places, contains up to 70 per cent cubanite (CuFe2S3 ) which has crystallized directly with other sulphides and associated gangue minerals.Several breakdown reactions involving the cubanite are also considered.

The Kalgoorlie Tailings Retreatment Project (or "Kaltails") involves the reclamation and retreatment of approximately 50 million tonnes of gold tailing situated on the Golden Mile at Kalgoorlie, Western Australia. Tailing is reclaimed and retreated at the rate of 42 million tonnes per annum. The project is a Joint Venture between Poseidon Limited and Gold Corporation, with Poseidon being the major participant (90%) and manager of the operation through its wholly owned subsidiary Kaltails Mining Services Pty Ltd. The marginal nature of the tailing retreatment project dictated that a detailed feasibility study be undertaken. Extensive sampling and metallurgical testing of the tailing permitted the development of an optimum economic processing route. A sensitivity analysis undertaken as part of the feasibility study indicated the project to be very sensitive to gold price and unit operating cost variations, and relatively insensitive to capital cost variations.

Generating short- and long-term mine production schedules in isolation and independently from each other means that only a local optimum can be achieved when each scheduling phase is carried out. The globally optimal solution however, can be achieved when integrating scheduling phases and accounting for the interaction between short-term and long-term activities simultaneously. This paper addresses the task of integrating short- and long-term production plans by combining the short-term objective of minimising deviation to targeted mill feed grade with the long-term objective of maximising net present value (NPV) into a single mathematical model. A case study is presented which compares the present values of the same stope data set scheduled via separate long and short-term models and than by the proposed integrated model which applies a predetermined penalty for each tonne of metal deviation to target for the respective ore tonnage being processed. This allows an operation to obtain a globally optimal scheduling regime when taking into consideration the cost and loss of value resulting from fluctuations in grade to the mill over the short-term.

The interaction of, flotation collectors with sulphide mmerals takes place at the solid-solution interface. The electrochemistry of the processes which affect this interface are discussed. The interaction of xanthates with sulphides is an electrochemical process, xanthates being electro-oxidized to chemisorbed xanthate and dixanthogen.The role of oxygen is to provide a cathodic process to allow the anodic oxidation to occur. The hydrophobic condition of the mineral surface is brought about by the presence of the oxidized xanthate species. The action of reagents which can activate or depress the flotation of sulphides is discussed briefly.

Over a four-hour period of steady plant operation samples were taken at regular intervals frum points within the grinding and flotation circuits. Size fractions of each composite sample were analysed for lead and zinc values and a comparison made of the behaviour of the lead, zinc and gangue minerals, size by size throughout the whole circuit. Analysis of the breakage behaviour using dynamic mathematical models gave the rates of breakage of each size fraction of each main component. Simulated grinding experiments shaved that the main grinding circuit had some reserve capacity. In the lead flotation circuit all lead values between 150 mesh (Tyler) and 5 ¦m had excellent flotation characteristics, and a major proportion had a high rate of flotation which was practically the same for all sizes. Increase in overall lead recovery would require improvement of the flotation behaviour of ultra-fine lead minerals. These were slav floating and were responsible for approximately half the lead losses in the final zinc concentrate and one thiro of the lead losses in the final tails. All sizes of zinc values between 150 mesh and 7 ¦m floated well and the performance of the zinc flotation circuit was mainly limited by the relatively poor flotation of the very fine zinc values. Approximately 60 per cent of the zinc lost to the final tails lay within the -7 ¦m fraction. The overall flotation conditions were conducive to very good selective flotation of the major proportion of the values and limitations in metallurgical performance were mainly due to the properties of the ultra-fines.

The Grasberg block cave rail haulage system will be located in the Grasberg mining district on the island of Papua, Indonesia at an elevation of almost 3000 m above sea level. It will transport 160 000 t of ore per day from multiple chute galleries to the underground crushing systems. The design entails approximately 23 km of rail (ballasted and embedded track), over 120 ore chutes to deliver ore to the muck cars and three unloading stations to deliver ore to the crushers. The rail haulage system is a closed-loop system entirely within the underground mining complex.The GBC rail haulage project will be a substantial operation. Trains consist of 11–12 bottom-dump 20 m3 muck cars driven by a 40 t electric locomotive, about 400 t per trainload. Approximately 12 trains and one spare are required to maintain full production at 160 000 t/d. All rail installations will be 1435 mm (standard) gauge with AS60 steel.The rail system is designed to operate in full automated mode, including chute loading, hauling and dumping. The operation will be controlled from a surface control room.The rail haulage project has been divided into five stages, which will be brought online over the course of ten years. Current development and construction are focused on Stage 1 for initial production that will occur beginning in late 2017. This stage includes 24 chutes in three chute galleries, one unloading station, workshop areas and almost 7 km of track (3 km of embedded and 4 km of ballast).This paper describes the key components of the rail haulage system and reports on the current status of development and construction of the system. This paper discusses the geotechnical condition of bedding shears and small- and large-scale faults and shears in Archean banded iron formation (BIF) bedrock, based on observations of core and televiewer images. Information that can be collected includes the orientation of defects, infill thickness, strength and material type, defect shape and surface roughness.The spacing and continuity of bedding shears may be critical to slope design where performance is structurally controlled with bedding dipping out of a wall. The intensity of development of the bedding shear is a useful indicator of the amount of shearing a bedding surface has been subjected to. This can allow for engineering judgement to be used in adopting peak or residual shear strengths along defect surfaces when developing the design.The spacing and continuity of bedding shears may also contribute to the blockiness and degradation of a rock mass where the structural orientation is otherwise favourable. Additionally the condition, thickness and strength of infill of major fault structures can affect slope design and performance, depending on orientation.Comparison of the condition of structures observed in core with the corresponding in situ televiewer image has been made to assess what characteristics are most accurately captured by each technique and whether the additional information gathered from using the televiewer technique is justified by the cost. McLanahan RSS14x50 scrubber screens have individually processed over 50 Mt of Pilbara iron ore. The first stage of separation in these plants with abrasive, high specific gravity, large lumps is an extremely arduous duty with high wear rates. With the Scrubber Screen layout this occurs in the attached trommel section. The initial supply of the replaceable trommel panels were of steel-backed rubber with a service life of approx. six weeks. Site Personnel established a goal of 26 week wear life in conjunction with 100 per cent reliability and while field trials were undertaken using a variety of hardened and cast steels that demonstrated wear life to the nominated requirement some unpredicted failures still occurred. With a long evaluation time and challenges to create repeatable conditions with field testing, a purpose built test unit was designed and constructed to allow controlled evaluation of a number of materials and designs. During 2016 tests were conducted with eight different materials, of varying thickness to simulate impact conditions and a number of aperture profiles to evaluate both impact and abrasion effects. From these results two designs were selected for full scale implementation to confirm the nominated goals. The challenge facing the engineering provider is to calculate throughput rates when faced with disparate specific energies calculated by different testing methodologies. Typically, an ownerÆs team would expect that the throughput calculations be checked using more than one method, therefore it is inevitable that there will be differences, based on which methodology is used. This engineering challenge is exacerbated by the continuing evolution of contemporary circuit configurations such as two stage pebble crushing with or without high pressure grinding rolls (HPGRs) as the second stage, or second stage pebble crusher product reporting to the ball milling circuit, etc.This paper is a companion to the paper first presented at SAG 2011, which showed that the Bond Indices are an excellent tool for estimating the specific energy requirements for semi-autogenous grinding (SAG) mills in single-stage SAG milling (SSS) circuits, SAG and ball mill circuits (SAB) or SAG and ball mill circuits with pebble crushers (SABC). This paper presents how the Bond Indices have been used to calculate ball mill specific energies, and therefore throughput rates, for SAG mill based circuits. Once the ball milling specific energy is known, tower mill and vertimill energy requirements can also be calculated.
