The phosphate ore sample was taken from the iron tailings after recovering most of magnetite by magnetic separation in Longlin, Yunnan Province of China. Batch flotation tests had been conducted to upgrade the phosphate concentrate by conventional fatty acids reagents under 70% -75 µm of the particle size; however, the unsatisfied results (P2O5 grade of 27.84% and recovery of 49.25%) were obtained. Also there are a large amount of slimes trapped in the concentrate and high-dosages consumption of reagents, for example, more than15 kg/t soda ash and 2 kg/t sodium silicate at only one-staged roughing. Based on the analysis of X-ray diffraction (XRD) for the sample, most of gangues are clay, quartz, and chlorite, which may easy to over-grind and deteriorate the flotation process either on reagents consumption or slurry fluidity or viscosity. A hydro-cyclone had been introduced to pre-concentrate the phosphate ore by scrubbing the slime before flotation, which can result obviously in reducing the dosages of soda ash from 15 Kg/t to 4 Kg/t, and raising the grade of P2O5 in the concentrate from 27.84% to 36.13% at the expense of about 4% recovery of P2O5. They also substantially reduced the time of sedimentation of concentrate after flotation from ~10 to ~1 min. In this paper, the effects on the recovery of P2O5 by the different dosages of flotation reagents with or without de-sliming were studied, with the objective of determining the different effects on the functions of flotation reagents by slime during flotation. Vast amount of fly ash, bottom ash and slags, are produced each year due to coal combustion in thermal power plants. These products consist of mainly unburned carbon and inorganic compound (such as: silica, alumina, iron oxides, magnesium oxide, phosphorus oxide etc.). These are valuable minerals and can be recycled or recovered if properly processed. One third of the material find application as an ingredient in cement and other construction products, the rest is held in dams or similar dumps, which results in a hazardous impact on the environment, polluting soil and ground water. The unproductive use of land, the associated long term financial burden maintenance and negative environmental impacts have led to realization that alternative uses for combustion by-products as a value added product beyond incorporation in construction materials are needed. At present, there is an intensive search to increase their uses. Other uses of coal combustion residues include as raw material in brick and ceramic tile fabrication, as filler in plastics and paints, extraction of valuable mineral materials, production of zeolites and soil and mine waste treatments. Separation of unburned carbon from bottom ashes by means of flotation was conducted in order to increase the possibility of the recycling of coal combustion wastes. In the flotation experiments collector, dispersant and frother amount, pulp density and pH were tested as variables. After first stage flotation experiments, at optimum conditions, the carbon content was reduced down to 5.58 % in the tailings fraction. This fraction meets the industrial specifications and can be utilized as a cement additive. At the same conditions the carbon content of the concentrate increased to 44.72 % at a carbon recovery of 65.81 %. After the cleaner stage flotation experiment the carbon content of the product is enhanced to 62.53 %. This fraction can be blended back into the coal feed to the power plant boilers.

Dense medium cyclones have been in use for washing coarse and small coals for more than 50 years. There have been modifications in its design and today these units have become indispensable for washing of Indian coals possessing difficult washing characteristics. About 53 percent of the Indian coals (coking and non-coking) are being washed in jigs, about 38 per cent are washed in dense medium cyclones while the remaining 9 per cent is treated in other units like Barrel Washers, Heavy Media Baths and Drum Separators etc. The present paper deals with the attempts made for design of industrial Dense Medium Cyclones for enhanced coal recovery. Two industrial units of 500 mm diameter and 650 mm diameter were designed with their washing capacities being 200 m3/hr and 350 m3/hr, respectively. The results of the pilot tests conducted on 500 mm cyclone treating very high Near Gravity Material coals crushed to -3.0+0.5 mm gave an ash reduction of up to 19.5 percent with the new design i.e., from a feed ash of 34.5 percent to 15.06 percent in clean coal with an appreciable yield of 45 percent in one stage.

An extra-refractory gold ore in China belongs to Carlin Type Gold Ore which is not only submicroscopic but also rich in arsenic and organic carbon. They have been proved that its floatability is not good enough and the gold in the ore could not be leached almost if it was not pretreated. The tests for the ore were carried out in accordance with flotation-concentrate preoxidation-cyanidation(or CIL) processes in order to exploit the mine. Two new depressants were discovered in the flotation tests and improved concentrate grades from about 20g/t to 32~50g/t. The methods of the concentrate preoxidation tests were alkaline atmospheric oxidation, acidic atmospheric oxidation, acidic pressure oxidation, roasting oxidation?biooxidation. The cyanidation tests after the concentrate preoxidation have proved the gold extraction of the pressure oxidation to be the highest(92.5%) and that of roasting secondary(89.3%). After fuller techno-economic comparison, it is suggested that the flotation-pressure oxidation or roasting-CIL process should be the most optimal for treating the ore. The gold recoveries of the ore were 83% for the pressure oxidation and 80% for the roasting respectively.

The flotation of pyrite which be pretreated by electrochemical ways under external controlled voltages in different pH is explored. The floatability of pyrite is increased indistinctively after being pretreated in acidic and xanthate environment; Whereas, it is increased obviously between 400~800 millivolt in alkaline and xanthate condition. The reason for higher recovery of pyrite is that oxida-tion reaction, which results in S0 and S02, takes place on its surface, and that ethyl xanthate is oxi-dized into dixanthogen. In the meantime, the kinetics and mechanism is also studied.

Coal is the prime source of energy in India. It now contributes to about 55% of the total power generation and will continue to have its major share in the energy mix of the country in the foreseeable future. Thermal coals of India, known for their wide variations in nature and categorized as difficult to wash due to their typical mineral matter association with the organic matrix, need suitable beneficiation technique for quality upgrade for improving the overall economics, efficiency and pollution free power generation. A non-coking high-ash coal, collected from Vasundhara open cast mine of the Ib Valley Coalfield, Orissa, has been characterized along with its different fractions obtained in the process of beneficiation for distribution of minerals using FTIR, XRD and ash analysis. The raw coal was fractionated by size as well as by density. It has been observed that ash yields and mineralogical composition (found to be mainly kaolinite and quartz) have no appreciable change in different size fractions, indicating homogeneous distribution of minerals in the coal matrix. However, for the different density fractions the mineral composition and ash yield have significant variations. The quartz content of the beneficiated coal visualized with 34% ash yield, as mandated by the Ministry of Environment and Forest (MOEF) for the use of coal in power plants is reduced to half of that of the raw coal. As quartz is the most abrasive mineral in coal, reduction of its proportion obviously signifies considerable reduction of wear of power plant machinery when beneficiated coal is fed to utility boiler for generation of power. Today there is a consensus that xanthate adsorption on sulfide minerals is primarily controlled by redox reactions occurring at specific potentials on these semi-conductive minerals. Consequently, it is possible to control xanthate adsorption by controlling electrochemical conditions in the system by using oxidizing and reducing agents. The scope of this study was to investigate the possibilities to increase the selectivity of Cu-Fe-Zn ore flotation by applying electrochemical control in the conditioning of the flotation feed. In this work, mild steel grinding in a nitrogen atmosphere was used as the basis to provide a negative starting potential and minimize the amount of oxidation products on sulfide mineral surfaces. To study how different potential levels affect flotation results, a controlled conditioning procedure was utilized maintaining potential at a desired level by titrating the pulp with air. Xanthate adsorption kinetics during conditioning was examined by taking pulp samples for spectrophotometric analysis and laboratory flotation tests were conducted for samples that underwent the controlled conditioning procedure in the potential range of -200mV to +200mV vs. SHE. A clear correlation was detected between chalcopyrite recovery and the potential during controlled conditioning indicating that there was a constant increase in chalcopyrite recovery when the potential was shifted to more anodic values. It is possible that utilizing potential control in the conditioning stage, a smelter grade copper concentrate can be achieved directly in rougher flotation without cleaning stages. Conditioning in favorable conditions had significant positive effects on flotation selectivity of chalcopyrite. The improvement in copper concentrate grade being predominantly caused by the depression of pyrite. By applying the controlled conditioning procedure pyrite recovery in rougher flotation was reduced even low as under 1%, while in the tests without controlled conditioning, pyrite recovery varied between 7.5 – 65.7%. The result of this work indicate that affecting collector adsorption by electrochemical control in the conditioning stage can provide significant improvement in sulfide mineral flotation and industrial applications could lead to decreased chemical consumption, reduced equipment and maintenance costs.

Zeolite in some regions or countries of the world have been the subjects of materials for environmental remediation involving the use of removal to heavy metal ions and some organic pollutant as a sorbent because of its capacious ions exchange and huge surface area. This article addresses the equilibrium and kinetics for manganese adsorption using zeolite modified by hexadecyl trimethyl ammonium bromide (HTMAB) as a sorbent material over a range of pH between 3.4~7.2 with eight different Mn(?) solution concentrations. PHzpc (pH of zero point charge) of the sorbent was examined according to the method proposed by Tripathy and Kanungo, and a value of 6.91 was obtained. The experimental data fit langmuir?s model for the majority of pH and Mn(?) solution concentrations tested (0.92<R2<0.97). The maximal adsorption capacity, qm ascending with pH between 3.4~7.2, rise from 15.01mg?g-1 at 3.4 to 19.46 mg?g-1 at 7.2. Besides, the constant of Freundlich Kf have the same trend with qm, increases with pH ascending. And the sorption intensity, represented by parameter 1/n in Freundlich?s model, is favorable in entire range of metal ions concentration studied. Finally, kinetics data accurately fit to pseudo-second order which indicate that there must be sorption of Mn(?) behavior occurring on inner-sphere of the sorbent.

"Graphite is the key raw material of new carbon materials such as graphene and spherical graphite. The size and completeness of graphite flakes directly affect the performance of new carbonaceous materials.The research aims to increase the yield of large flake graphite by way of preventing the flake graphite from being damaged during the grinding process. A series of grinding and flotation studies on the flake graphite samples of Yichang in Hubei Province were carried out by vertical stirred mill . The damage coefficient L characterising the degree of graphite flake fractured and corresponding formula was proposed to determine the quality of the grinding and grinding of the flake graphite. The way the damage coefficient L of graphite flake would be affected if with different mill, different media material and size, stirrer speed were investigated. The test results show that vertical screw stirred mill helps the protection of large flake of graphite as well as the graphite liberation. When grinding to the same fineness, the damage coefficient L of graphite flake is 1.20 for vertical stirred mill, while the damage coefficient is 2.93 for ball mill. Minimum damage coefficient of graphite flake was obtained when using 6 mm polyurethane coated ball as grinding media, under the condition that rotation speed of the stirrer within the range of 100~130r/min. The grade of graphite in the concentrate floated from the ground product was 94.16%, the rate of recovery for graphite was 94.66%, and the content of +0.15mm was 54.83%.1 INTRODUCTION Flake graphite is a very important non-metallic mineral[1,2],and due to its special flake structure, the greater the scale and the higher the C grade, the value of its application is larger too. Therefore, in the grinding of graphite sorting process, We should minimize the destruction of graphite scales.. In this paper, graphite mine in Yichang, Hubei Province was used as the raw material for the study. Rough concentrate with C-grade of 36.49% was prepared by rough grinding and coarse separation. Then a series of grinding and flotation studies on the rough concentrate were carried out by vertical stirred mill , which aims to increase the yield of large flake graphite and to provide technical support for improving the beneficiation process of graphite ore."

The flotation behavior of kaolinite and diaspore using N, N-diethyl dodecyl amine (DEN12) and N, N-dimethyl dodecyl amine (DRN12) as collector have been investigated through flotation experiments. The mechanism of adsorption of two tertiary amine collectors on surface of kaolinite and diaspore were investigated by FTIR spectral, Zeta potentials measurements and calculation of molecular orbital energy. It has been found that DEN12 and DRN12 have stronger collecting power to kaolinite and weaker collecting abilityto diaspore than DDA. Kaolinite and diaspore in bauxite ores can be separated by using DEN12 and DRN12 as collectors at pulp pH below 8 and 6, respectively. The results of zeta potentials and calculation of molecular orbital energy indicated that the adsorption strength on kaolinite surface is in the order DEN12>DRN12>DDA and the adsorption strength on diaspore surface is in the order DDA>DEN12>DRN12. FTIR spectral analysis and Zeta potentials approve that the action between kaolinite and tertiary amine collector is strong electrostatic adsorption and that of diaspore is weak electrostatic adsorption in the range of pH 5~6.

Gold extraction using iodide leaching from refractory carbonaceous gold ores was studied. Thermodynamic analysis of iodide leaching chemistry had been carried out. Eh-pH diagram of Au-I2-I--H2O leaching system showed that the coordinating active forms from iodides were I3- and I-, while the major coordinate compound formed during iodide leaching was AuI-. For leaching parameters optimization, technological parameters such as I2 concentration, I2 :I- ratio, oxidation assisting agents, liquid/solid ratio, and leaching duration were studied. The leaching results showed that the average Au leaching rate reached 91% and 92% for oxidized ore and roasted primary ore respectively. Leaching process proceeded in weekly acidic or neutral slurry at ambient temperature; the leaching duration was 4 hours. After that gold was extracted from the pregnant liquor by activated carbon adsorption ? desorption ? electrowinning process. Gold recovery was over 93% in the adsorption process, while the gold recovery in electrowinning process was about 95%, provided that the initial gold concentration is 40mg/L or larger. For iodine regeneration it is enough to add hydrogen peroxide in excess into the filtrate after gold electrowinning, all the iodides existing in the solution in any forms would be precipitated in the form of elemental iodine.

The kaolin losses in hydrocyclone classification are determined by the fines, which are discharged together with the water to the underflow. This paper presents an improved technique of water injection to the conical part of the cyclone applied especially for small cyclones in kaolin preparation. In small hydrocyclones water, injection is a sensitive process. Therefore, the process was stabilized by controlled water injection dependent on the measurement of the underflow shape. Three applications of this innovation are presented. In the first case, the water injection is applied for the separation stage in dilute suspension where the final product is produced in the overflow of a 50mm hydrocyclone. The underflow contains sand and residual kaolin. For a higher kaolin recovery, the underflow is usually treated downstream in washing cyclones. The wash water injection results in a 45 ? 50% - reduction of the kaolin fraction <25µm in the underflow. Thus, water injection to the classifying cyclone leads to a separation comparable with a downstream washing stage. An additional hydrocyclone stage can be deleted. The second application refers to a classification in dense suspension. Here, the underflow of the last hydrocyclone stage was directed to a washing in a 50mm hydrocyclone. The additional injection of 3L/min water in to the conical part of the cyclone reduced the kaolin losses by half.The third application was executed in the washing stage equipped with 75mm hydrocyclones where the underflow is directed to flotation. "Using the flotation of a gold-containing ore from a deposit in Kazakhstan as an example, we have conducted a study designing dialkyldithiophosphate collectors, in addition to xanthates, for the flotation of hard-toenrich gold-containing ores to increase gold recovery.The increased flotational ability of the dialkyldithiophosphates was determined by their surface activity at the liquid-gas interface and their hydrophobic ability, the changing of which allowed us to control the collecting power and selective ability of the dialkyldithiophosphates. The studying of the surface activity of aqueous solutions was done using the stalagmometric method and the evaluation of the hydrophobic ability was done in percentage of the relative value of the zinc ion binding in the solution in standard conditions.Studying the influence of surface activity in our designed dialkyldithiophosphate collectors, with their close hydrophobic ability, showed that even with a small increase in surface activity in their aqueous solutions, gold recovery increased by 2-3% in laboratory conditions. Using this enabled us first to apply the dialkyldithiophosphate collector BTF-161 at a plant in Kazakhstan, and then to introduce the specially designed dialkyldithiophosphate collector BTF-163, which has been in use since. Further study of dialkyldithiophosphate activity based on this concept showed us that for the range of short-chain dialkyldithiophosphate collectors with a chain length of up to ?5, the effectiveness of ore processing became lower the higher their surface activity got, with relatively small differences in their hydrophobic ability. For long-chain dialkyldithiophosphates with a chain length of over ?5, ore processing effectiveness increased with the increase of their hydrophobic ability.Based on these studies, a new effective dialkyldithiophosphate collector, BTF-1517, was designed. Using this reagent in continuous gold recovery tests allowed us to reach an 84.21% recovery with a concentrate quality of 15.66 g/t, while using the applied collector BTF-163 in similar conditions led to the recovery of 82.87% with a concentrate quality of 15.65%. As a result, the Kazakhstan processing plant decided to conduct industrial tests with the BTF-1517 collector."

"Bacteria that grow in autochtonous communities of gold heap leaching (HL) wastes are adapted to high concentrations of contaminants and environmental conditions. An example of a mine in the Sakha (Yakutia) Republic showed that the bacterial factor had a significant influence on cyanide breakdown and copper and nickel removal in the conditions of HL ore pile zoning compared to chemical oxidation. The diversity of bacterial communities growing in natural and simulated conditions of a HL ore pile was determined for the purpose of the study. The identified bacterial communities included genus Achromobacter and Serratia, which were found to be adapted to a wide range of temperature and can be considered as potential microorganisms for detoxification of gold HL wastes. INTRODUCTION Technologies and systems of passive treatment are of a special interest in relation to solving environmental problems of gold HL wastes detoxification, when neutralization time is not considered as a limitation (Alvarez et al. 2005). Passive treatment methods are based on reagentless spontaneous breakdown of cyanide caused by natural factors, including activity of autochthonous bacterial communities. Implementation of a reagentless biodetoxification technology for mature HL operations provides reduction of environmental impact on industrial site locations and substantial economic benefits compared to conventional chemical processes of neutralization that prevail in the Russian Federation territory. Passive treatment of cyanide-containing wastes was investigated by M. Botz, T. Mudder, S.V. Petrov, L. Simovic, A. Smith, C.A. Young etc. However, the bacterial factor (autochtonous bacterial communities) role in this process is practically unexplored. Thus, the aims of the study included the investigation of a bacterial factor influence on passive treatment of gold HL wastes and the identification of functional groups of bacteria involved in passive treatment."

Metso has a long history supplying boilers for high ash coal firing. These boilers are based on circulating fluidized bed (CFB) technology. CFB?s biggest benefit is fuel flexibility ? it can burn fuels from high moisture content to high ash content. Metso has delivered tens of CFB boilers burning waste or high ash coal starting on 80?s. Some of the boilers have been in operation twenty years meaning that there is a long term experience from these plants available. This feedback includes boiler performance and maintenance issues of the boiler. Metso is also delivering coal washing plants to improve coal quality, i.e. reducing ash content of the coal. The idea to combine coal washing plant and CFB boiler was made up two years ago in Metso. Up-coming legislation of coal washing and restrictions for washery reject land-filling in India are good drivers for this kind of concept. Pre-study of this kind of concept led to the conclusion that coal washing process can be fine-tuned so that reject?s calorific value is only 1100 kcal/kg and that was set as a target for boiler design. Metso shipped 200 tons of washery reject to its own research center located in Tampere Finland. First a wide range of fuel characterization tests were done in lab-scale and after that one week test run in 4 MW CFB pilot boiler was done. Test run proved that 1100 kcal/kg can be fired without any support fuel with special boiler design. Test run results gave a good set of data regarding combustion efficiency, emission performance and boiler dynamic behaviour when burning this kind of fuel. These results are introduced in this paper. This paper introduces also the CFB boiler concept for washery reject firing including boiler plant, fuel and ash handling systems and flue gas cleaning system. "The analysis on influencing factors of hydraulic conditions in fine hematite flocculation, such as stirring speed, stirring time and axial distance of particle size and fractal dimension of floc was investigated. Furthermore, response surface methodology(RSM) has been applied according to the Box-Benhnken center-united experimental design principle to optimize parameters of hydraulic conditions as a response index to indicate the fractal dimension of floc. The results show that when the agitation speed is 900r/min, the axial distance is 2.0cm, and the stirring time is 3.0min, the particle size reaches the maximum value of 35.44µm and the fractal dimension is 1.6594. The interaction between the axial distance and the stirring speed is highly significant, but the interaction with the stirring time is not obvious. The experimental data and model predications match well, which indicates that the established model has high accuracy and practicability. INTRODUCTION With the exhaustion of iron ore resources that are easy to be mined and the vigorous demand for iron and steel, the exploitation and utilization of fine-grained embedded iron ore resources have drawn attention from the industry and the government [1~2]. Flocculation flotation is one of the effective methods for separation and recovery of fine granular minerals. In 1975, the method was first applied and succeeded in Tilden Concentrator, USA. Flocculation and desliming became the key technology of the Tilden to raise its annual treatment capacity from 4 million tons to 8 million tons at that time [3 ~ 4]. In 2008, the selective flocculation and desliming-reverse flotation technology was successfully used to treat 2.8 million tons of Qidong iron ore. Under the conditions of 28.36% raw iron grade and 98% grinding fineness -0.038 mm, the ideal index of 62.5% iron concentrate grade and 68% recovery was obtained [5]. Dr Kitchenner of the Royal College of Mining and the Ore Processing Research Group of Wallenstein Laboratory first proposed the use of flocculation to separate minerals. After that, many scholars conducted a great deal of theoretical and practical researches, but mostly they focused on chemical theories, mathematical models and selectivity differences in the flocculation process, while the research on the influence of the pulp flow state on the separation effect in the flocculation process started later [6~9]. The results show that the motion of the agitated flow field has a significant influence on the formation of flocs. The fluid morphology will change with the change of hydraulic conditions. The change of fluid morphology will not only affect the movement behavior of particles, but also change the action of chemical agents on the surface of mineral particles[10~12]."

"Wastewater from ores processing is often polluted by molybdate and sulfate (SO42-) ions. Sorption is one of suitable methods for removing those pollutants when presenting in low concentrations. This work reports results on adsorption of sulfate and molybdate ions on metal modified (with barium - Ba and lead - Pb) and organic reagent modified (with Hexadecyl-trimethyl-ammonium bromide - HDTMA) clinoptilolite. Zeolite’s modification with Pb, Ba and HDTMA increases its uptake capacity with respect to Mo(VI) at pH 3, with the uptake capacity decreasing in the order CL-Pb > CL-HDTMA > CL-Ba. Lead-modified clinoptilolite shows high uptake with respect to Mo(VI) in acidic, neutral and slightly alkaline conditions. The presence of SO42- in concentrations twice higher than the amount of Mo(VI) do not interfere with the Mo(VI) removal by CL-Pb. Zeolite’s modification with Ba and Pb renders it able to immobilize SO42- from water in the pH range 3-9. Kinetics of the uptake process is best described by the pseudo-first order kinetic equation. Increasing the initial concentrations of Mo(VI) and SO42- increases the removed amount of pollutants. INTRODUCTION Wastewater from copper-molybdenum ores processing is often polluted by molybdate and sulfate ions. Molybdenum (Mo) migrates easily in water and consequently the Mo polluted areas could extend for hundreds and thousands of meters (Ryzhenko, 2010). Molybdate anion is the only Mo(VI) species in natural water, i.e. at pH > 6.0. Its median freshwater hazardous concentration affecting 5% of the species (HC 5.50%) is 38.2 mg Mo/L (De-Schamphelaere et al., 2010). The marine water chronic toxicity (HC 5.50%) is assessed at 5.74 mg Mo/L (Heijerick et al., 2012). The predicted no-effect concentrations (PNEC) are 12.7 mg Mo/L and 1.92 mg Mo/L correspondingly for freshwater and marine water (Heijerick et al., 2012a). When sulfates present in drinking water in excess of 250 mg/L they cause a cathartic action (especially in children) in the presence of sodium and magnesium, and when the concentration exceeds 600 mg/L, diarrhea. When sulfate-rich effluents are discharged into the environment, they may increase the acidity of water bodies and soils (Guimarães and Leão, 2014). Because of the adverse effects to human health and the environment, limits are set for SO42- concentrations in waters and wastewaters in the range of 250 / 500 mg/L."

The Lake Balaton is the biggest and for many reasons the most important lake in Hungary. To preserve its healthy nature it is necessary to remove the accumulated mud time to time, similarly to the many living waters, lakes and rivers everywhere. Typical existing technologies (mechanical, hydraulic) require large depositional areas, where the removed slurry and mud is dewatered through very long time. One problem is the non existence of an economical mud thickening technology. Another major problem is that current methods remove the sand fraction with the mud as well. Many times sand has to be complemented from outer sources to endanger the natural balance of the living water. By the financial support of the NKFP 3A/068/2004 Hungarian Research Project our consortium has been looking for the solution to the above mentioned problems. The original ideas of the project were: 1. Sand should be separated and returned to the water by hydrocyclon; 2. New mud thickener should be developed based on the principle that vibrating rods can force settling and packing of mud particles. The work was started by fundamental research with different samples from Lake Balaton and River Bodrog. An automated settling column (45L) has been built for the investigation of the effect of vibrating rods on the settling behavior of suspensions. An optical sensor has been developed by with the settling curve (height of settling slurry as function of time) can be automatically measured. Different vibrating methods and parameters have been tested by the application of a linear motor and mechanical eccentric drive. On the basis of the fundamental research a new thickener, called the rod ? lamella thickener has been developed and an industrial size (50m3/h) mud removing technology has been built. Main parts of the technology are the traditional dredging barge and the thickening technology. The thickening and sand separation technology is tugged by the dredging ship. Its main elements are the homogenization tank, slurry pump, hydrocyclon and the rod ? lamella thickener. In this unit lamellas carry out pre-thickening, then vibrating rods further increase the concentration. The thickened mud is transported out by a screw - of which revolution number is precisely controlled - against a spring supported valve. Paper reports about the design, building, water probe and on-site tests of this mud removing technology. Two new patents had been presented, one is about the rod ? lamella thickener and the other is about the mud removing technology with sand separation.

"The research applies the density functional theory and molecule design technology to design and synthesize the novel flotation collectors for copper-sulphur separation. Density functional theory (DFT) was applied to investigate the electronic properties of O-isopropyl-N-benzyl thionocarbamate (IP-BIAN) and O-isopropyl-N-ethyl thionocarbamate (Z-200). The calculation results show that both the energy of highest occupied molecular orbital (EHOMO) and the lowest unoccupied molecular orbital (ELUMO) of IP-BIAN are smaller than that of Z-200, electronegativity of IP-BIAN is higher than that of Z-200. According to the Klopman’s generalized perturbation theory, the collecting power of the two compounds is predicted to be Z-200 > IP-BIAN, the selectivity of IP-BIAN is better than that of Z-200. Then the thionocarbamate molecular is synthesized, and the compounds are characterized by nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR). It turns out that the test result identifies the prediction after the flotation verified test of pure mineral and actual mineral. The results demonstrate that the EHOMO and ELUMO are smaller in the thionocarbamate after a nitrogen atom is bound to benzyl, the thionocarbamate has strong selectivity and low collecting power. The lower the LUMO energy of thionocarbamate is, the stronger the back donation covalent p-bond between collectors and chalcopyrite is, thus improving flotation power for chalcopyrite and selectivity against pyrite. The result proves the feasibility of design and synthesis of the novel thionocarbamate through the frontier orbital properties of the collectors.1. INTRODUCTION Thiocarbamate is a kind of nonionic polar collector and is now widely used as flotation collector for copper-sulphur separation. The flotation power of thiocarbamate to chalcopyrite is stronger than pyrite, so it has high selectivity against pyrite. The frontier orbital theory and density functional theory (DFT) has been widely applied to study the structure-activity relationship of flotation collectors [1-6]. The flotation test results can be interpreted by using the reaction energy criteria and quantum-chemical parameters, such as the energy of the highest occupied molecular orbital (EHOMO) and the energy of the lowest unoccupied molecular orbital (ELUMO) of collector [7-11]. In turn, there are rarely reports about screening the novel flotation collector, by the frontier orbital properties such as HOMO and LUMO of flotation collectors. In this thesis, we apply the density functional theory and molecule design technology to design and synthesize the novel flotation collectors for copper-sulphur separation. Based on the previous findings of the structure-activity relationship of xanthogen formats [12], it has stronger collecting ability to chalcopyrite while the xanthogen formats after a nitrogen atom is bound to benzyl. Thus, in this study, a novel thionocarbamate molecule O-isopropyl-N-benzyl thionocarbamate (IP-BIAN) will be constructed, when the group structure connected with N atom in the known collector O-isopropyl-N-ethyl thionocarbamate (Z-200) is replaced with ethyl by propyl. The collectors (IP-BIAN and Z-200) have been calculated by DFT methods in quantum chemistry. By analyzing the reaction energy criteria and the frontier orbital properties (HOMO and LUMO), this research predicts flotation performance of novel collectors (IP-BIAN), then the synthetic experiments and flotation verified tests are conducted. The research provides a new theory reference for screening out the high-effective flotation collectors of copper-sulphur separation. This technology adoption will contribute to the sustainable development of mineral resources as it shortens the research cycle of new collector molecules and reduces the investment."

Refractory iron ore deposits in China have various genesis and complicated types, the nature of which is poor, fine-disseminated and complex. Therefore, refractory iron ore could scarcely be separated and utilized by traditional mineral processing technology at present. It is necessary to explore deep reduction technology to change the characteristics of refractory iron ore and to use effectively the iron resource. And deep reduction technology is that on the condition of higher reduction temperature than that of magnetic roasting and stronger reducing atmosphere, the iron oxides from iron ore was reduced to metallic iron particle that is easy to dissociate. And then production from deep reduction is easily separated by magnetic separation and iron powder production was obtained finally. Deep reduction technology for Lingyang iron ore from Jilin, China, as the refractory iron ore, was studied in this paper. The influences of such main factors as reduction temperature, time and coal content were investigated. The results showed that the Metallization rate of reduction product was up to more than 90% under optimum conditions, and then higher iron grade and recovery of reduction iron powder were obtained from subsequent magnetic separation. Furthermore, the deep reduction mechanism in the system was studied by the means of XRD and SEM analysis for reduction production and Physical Chemistry of Metallurgy. Analytical results indicated that during deep reduction, the size of iron particle from deep reduction materials was increasing as reduction temperature rising and reduction time extending. The growth of metallic iron particle from deep reduction production was divided into such three stages as reduction nucleation, deep reduction and growth of metallic iron particle.
