The Garfield Mine is a legacy vanadium mine in western Colorado with multiple mine openings, waste rock piles, and adit seepages that Cyprus Climax Metals Company (a Freeport-McMoRan Inc. subsidiary) voluntarily remediated through the Colorado Voluntary Cleanup Program (VCUP). The process to obtain a No Further Action determination from the VCUP is presented. Water treatment of the adit discharge, which is not part of the VCUP, is also presented. The remedial action objectives (RAOs) included preventing direct human or biotic exposure to the waste rock and radiation emitting from the waste rock; reducing metal concentrations and radionuclide activities in adit discharge and keeping the discharge from leaving the site; maintaining the existing undeveloped character of the surrounding landscape; and eliminating the need for a stormwater permit. The design included regrading, installation of an infiltration barrier and rock cover, a diversion channel, and a biologically based passive remediation water treatment system. An initial lab-scale evaluation provided design criteria for the full-scale system, which consists of a sulfate-reducing biochemical reactor and post-treatment aerobic polishing cells. The system has been operational since construction was completed in late 2016. Results indicate that the treatment objective of 90% bulk removal of constituents of potential concern (COPCs) is largely being met. The system also provides year-round operation and non-point discharge of effluent. After 20 plus years of site investigations, the remedial action was completed in 2016 with all RAOs met and a No Further Action determination granted in 2018. INTRODUCTION The Garfield Mine is a legacy vanadium mine located approximately 11 miles north-northeast of Rifle, in Garfield County, Colorado. It was leased and operated intermittently from 1929 to 1975 but was never operated by Cyprus Climax Metals Company (Cyprus) (a Freeport-McMoRan Inc. subsidiary). Prior to reclamation, site features included: • six mine openings—five adits and a vertical opening; • two adits discharging mining-influenced water (MIW)— Adit 1 at less than 4 liters per minute (L/min) and Adit 2 at 7 to 10 L/min; • main waste rock pile (13,500 m3) and small waste rock pile (minimal volume); • debris (small structure, mattress, bottles, shells, etc.) indicating site used for recreational purposes; and, • unimproved road, which has been used to access forest fires.

Many coal combustion products (CCPs) have historically been unsuitable for placement as mine backfill because of their physical and geochemical properties and/or regulatory status. However, innovations in paste production and transport of CCPs utilizing the high, fine particle contents of these fine-grained waste materials and their water retention colloidal properties produce a non-segregating, self-cementing material that may be environmentally suitable for placement as mine backfill. Both industry and the regulatory agencies are enthused by the possible cost reductions, both in design and construction of disposal sites, and the reduced environmental impacts of CCP realized by implementation of this new use/disposal technology.

Methane drainage by cross-measure boreholes on retreat longwall faces can be a viable alternative to the vertical gob degas boreholes under favorable circumstances. The research was done in a mine working Pittsburgh Coal seam in Northern West Virginia under U.S.B.M. Co-operative Agreement No. 14-09-0050-3252. The study was the first application of this technique to Pittsburgh coal seam. A total of fourteen, small diameter, inclined boreholes were drilled over a retreat longwall panel from gate roads, to intersect the overlying coal seams. All boreholes were manifolded to a pipeline and the gob gas was extracted by an exhaust fan on surface. The methane capture ratio was poor at 7 to 18% at various stages of the longwall panel. A vertical gob degas borehole captured an additional 20% gas. Poor results were due to premature failures of the cross-measure boreholes leading to air leakage. For better performance the boreholes should be drilled from a point 30 to 45 m from longwall pillar over the largest chain pillar, the standpipe should be grouted for at least 6 m, and the entry containing boreholes and the pipeline must be supported to ensure access for maintenance, and optimization of methane capture. Coursing the ventilation air around longwall such that it forces methane-migration towards cross-measure boreholes can further improve methane capture. The optimum vertical inclination is 45° ± 10°.

The Pittsburgh Safety and Health Technology Center surveyed MSHA Coal Mine Safety and Health Districts to monitor the implementation of computer based atmospheric monitoring systems (AMS) in underground coal mines. This survey was first completed in 1984, and has been periodically updated with the latest update completed in 1995. The utilization of computer based monitoring systems has steadily increased over the past 12 years, with over 16 percent of all producing underground coal mines using this technology in 1995. This paper discusses the results of the MSHA 1995 AMS Survey.

In the last two decades, acid iron ore pellets have established their predominant position as the iron-bearing burden material for blast furnace ironmaking in North America. It is a general practice that pelletization plants are asked to produce pellets of certain chemical composition and in a narrow range of sizes. A minimum amount of fines created during handling and transportation is desirable. Such a requirement is often expressed indirectly by the minimum compression load causing a pellet to break. The behavior of pellets inside a blast furnace, of course, is very important for a smooth and efficient operation. Before its melting in the lower part of a blast furnace during this period of several hours the behavior of pellets depends on their properties after induration as well as conditions inside each furnace. Among properties of indurated pellets, the ability to maintain their physical integrity in the burden and to be reducible are most important. To maintain the integrity of pellets (i.e., minimal low temperature breakdown, swelling and softening) so that there will be adequate overall permeability for certain wind rate and local permeability for gas/solid contact for reduction. A higher reducibility will moderate the adverse effects of swelling and softening and contribute to a smooth operation and efficient use of heat and reductants in a blast furnace. An article devoted to the relationships between the quality of iron ore pellets and blast furnace practice has been published elsewhere(1); therefore, no further discussion is needed here. The mechanism of strengthening of iron ore pellets during firing has been the subject of investigation of many authors(2). There is no doubt that the bridging of the growing hematite grains, particularly starting with magnetite concentrates, is very significant in the production of strong pellets. Recently, there are many reports from blast furnace operators that they have noticed the adverse effect of LTB in their plants. It is obvious that the strength derived from bridged hematite grains may disappear when hematite is converted to magnetite with thorough breakdown of grain structures. It is suggested that some other strengthening mechanism may be required in order to improve the LTB index of acid pellets. The influence of porosity on both compression strength and reducibility follows regular patterns. It has been suggested(1) that the amount of liquid slag in pellets during firing determines to a large extent the porosity, hence, indirectly, strength and reducibility.

Bleeder entries are critically important to longwall mining for the moving of supplies, personnel, and the dilution of mine air contaminants. By design, these entries must stay open for many years for ventilation. Standing supports in moderate cover bleeder entries were observed, numerically modeled, and instrumented by researchers at the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH). The measurements of the installed borehole pressure cells (BPCs), standing support load cells and convergence meters, and roof extensometers are presented in this paper in addition to the numerical modeling results and visual observations made by the NIOSH researchers in the bleeder entries. The results include the effects of multiple panels being extracted in close proximity to the instrumented site as well as over one and a half years of aging. As expected, standing supports closer to the longwall gob showed the greatest load and convergence. The roof sag appeared generally independent of the proximity to the longwall gob. The BPC readings were driven by both the proximity to the gob and the depth into the pillar. The results of this study demonstrated that the entry roof can respond independently of the pillar and standing support loading. In addition, the rear abutment stress experienced by this bleeder entry design was minimal. The closer the mine development, pillar, or supports are to the gob, the greater the applied load due to rear abutment stress.

Many underground metal/nonmetal mines are using enclosed cabs on mining equipment to reduce the exposure of miners to diesel particulate matter (DPM). However, some enclosed cab systems may not be meeting their expected efficiency in capturing DPM, which could be a result of inappropriate filter use, cab leaks or insufficient pressurization. NIOSH investigated several types of filters for reducing DPM to determine which type had the best capture efficiency. The laboratory results indicated that a MERV 8 (minimum efficiency reporting value, as defined by the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air- Conditioning Engineers) filter captured about 50% of the DPM, a MERV 16 filter collected 96-98% of the DPM and two HEPA (high efficiency particulate air) grade filters captured over 99% of the DPM. NIOSH also performed a field study to measure the efficiency of two cabs at a limestone mine. The cab filtration systems of a loader and haul truck were found to be over 90% effective in removing DPM, except under certain operating conditions when the efficiency was as low as 41%. A possible reason for the low efficiencies is an open window in the cab, but more studies need performed to obtain a better understanding of the cause and solution of the problem.

Agrico Chemical Company, as we presently know it, is the result of the coming together of several different fertilizer operations. The Williams Companies, our parent organization, first entered the fertilizer business in 1971, when it acquired the fertilizer operations of the Gulf Oil Company. This gave us, among other things, the manufacturing facility at Donaldsonville, Louisiana. In 1972, The Williams Companies acquired Agrico Chemical Company from Continental Oil Company, bringing in a manufacturing facility and phosphate mines at Pierce Florida. Our Florida Mines are in the region commonly known as the Bone Valley Region of Florida. The majority of the phosphate fertilizer produced in the United States utilizes rock mined in this region. The Donaldsonville Plant was originally built in 1967-68 on the site of the old Faustina Plantation at an approximate cost of $80,000,000. (This plant is commonly referred to as our Faustina Plant.) Until such time as Agrico was acquired from Continental Oil, the Donaldsonville Facility was solely used to upgrade phosphoric acid into finished granular products.

Earlier publications from The University of Alabama have indicated that column flotation performance is improved when operating at low pulp levels and when the feed is directed into the froth phase. To validate these early observations a series of tests were performed in which the position of the feed entry to the column and the pulp-froth interface were systematically varied. The optimum grade-recovery relationship was achieved with high feed entry (WA) of column height) and very low pulp levels (<10% of column height). The position of the pulp-froth interface appears to be the more critical variable. When operating in this mode (1. e. at low pulp levels) column flotation becomes. in reality. a froth separation process.

The primary grinding stage in the Vuonos concentrator comprises a rod mill in open circuit and a semi-autogeneous mill in closed, circuit with a hydrocyclone classifier. The instrumentation of the grinding circuit is displayed in Fig. 1. All the measurements have computer interfaces and all the control circuits have been implemented by the process control computer. The crushed ore feed to the rod mill is measured by a belt-weigher and controlled by a belt-feeder. The pulp density in the rod mill is stabilized by proportioning the waterfeed at the mill inlet to the crushed ore feed. The slurry level in the pump sump is measured by a pressure transducer and it is controlled by charging the speed of the direct-current drive pump.

Air-supported belt conveyors-conveying systems that replace troughing idlers with a film of air-were a revolutionary concept when introduced in the 1970s. But high installation and operating costs limited their application. Now, system refinements have led to successful applications, even under the challenging conditions of mines and process plants. In this presentation the author will discuss the latest developments in the engineering of these systems, including the ability to retrofit existing transfer points with modular air conveyor components. Air conveyor applications and limitations in mineral-handling operations will also be examined.

The purpose of this paper is to present a discussion of the various approaches that can be utilized in the study of mine subsidence phenomena. Attention is focused upon the rational selection and use of laboratory models. Broadly interpreted, mine subsidence is the deformation of the rock mass enclosing the mine. Depending upon a number of factors, the movement of the subsiding rock mass may be such as to disrupt gas and water lines or other buried utilities, to damage surface structures such as buildings and bridges, to dislocate streams, roads, and rail lines, to aggravate acid mine drainage and fire problems, and to generally mar the landscape. It is clearly a problem that no mine manager can safely ignore. It is also a problem that will grow with the general population increase. In the following, a summary review of past and present approaches to subsidence studies is given. The possibilities of duplicating subsidence phenomena in laboratory models are examined, and an analysis of a particular type of model is presented. Some preliminary results obtained from a model of the particular type analyzed are then discussed.

The -0.1 mm desliming product is treated as tailings. A new partially hydrophobic flocculant, P(MAAA) latex was developed to enhance flotation recovery of fine apatite particles through selective flocculation.

"Hecla - Lucky Friday is an underground mine that has been in operation for 75 years and produces from depths over 2.3 kilometers (7,500 ft) below the surface. Technical issues at this depth include high rock temperature and seismicity. The use of new innovative mechanization is being examined for ore production. Principal advantages of mechanization are the reduced exposure of personnel, reduced seismic triggers, and increased efficiency. Lucky Friday has partnered with Atlas Copco to design, build, test, and deploy a mechanical miner for primary ore production. We will discuss the background, concept, development and deployment strategy for a mechanical miner. BACKGROUND The Coeur d’Alene mining district in northern Idaho was first discovered over 130 years ago and has been the most prolific silver producer in the US. The Lucky Friday mine of Hecla Mining Company (Figure 1) is the oldest (76 years) and deepest mine in the district, producing approximately 725 tonne per day (800 tons per day) from narrow, vertical lead-zinc-silver veins. Cut and fill stoping is currently employed at depths to about 2.3 km (7,500 ft) below ground surface, making it one of the three deepest mines in the western hemisphere. The #4 Shaft, a winze collared at approximately 1.8 km (5,900 ft) below surface and extending to a depth of nearly 2.9 km (9,600 ft), was recently completed to exploit the high-grade 30 Vein, whose resource has been identified to at least 3 km (9,700 ft) in depth.As with other deep mines worldwide, a number of challenging engineering issues occur, including: high in situ rock stress, squeezing ground, seismicity, high in situ rock temperature that requires refrigeration, diesel equipment that generates diesel particulate matter (DPM) requiring high ventilation airflow rates, and long travel times for worker transport to mining areas."

The Bushveld Complex of South Africa contains almost 90% of the world’s reserves of platinum group minerals (PGMs). In the flotation of PGMs, there are significant challenges arising from the need to treat ever-decreasing grades of the relevant ore deposits. The major challenge in the flotation of these ore bodies is the control and management of the gangue minerals, particularly silicates such as orthopyroxene and plagioclase feldspar which are often rimmed with talc which makes them naturally floatable. It has been shown that various polysaccharide depressants such as CMC and guar have different properties in terms of depressing the gangue minerals. Since the PGMs are often associated with sulphides, copper sulphate is widely used as an activator in PGM flotation but can inadvertently activate the gangue minerals and reduce the recovery of PtTe2 which accounts for up to 40% of the Pt in the Platreef ore body. Depressants also reduce the mass of solids reporting to the froth and can thus destabilize the froth. This effect on the froth can be mitigated by using higher frother dosages or water of higher ionic strength. In summary due care needs to be taken to carry out site test work to develop an optimum ratio of collector, frother, activator and depressant to ensure that the highest grades and recoveries of the PGEs are obtained while reducing depressant dosage as much as possible. Chromite recoveries can be reduced through the application of gravity separation or reducing entrainment through reduced water recovery. INTRODUCTION The Bushveld Complex located in the north of South Africa contains the world’s largest deposit of Platinum Group Minerals (PGMs) (1). The so-called upper Critical Zone of the Complex hosts the largest concentration of platinum group elements (PGEs) in the world. The Zone hosts the Upper Group Chromitite No.2 (UG2) reef and Merensky Reef as well as the Platreef mineralization of the northern limb of the Bushveld Complex. The Merensky pegmatoid Zone contains the base metal sulphide grains and associated PGMs. Of particular importance to the topic of this paper is the occurrence in these reefs of various gangue minerals. The Merensky Reef consists predominantly of orthopyroxene (~60%), plagioclase feldspar (~20%), pyroxene (~15%), phlogopite (5%) and occasional olivine. Secondary minerals such as talc, serpentine, chlorite and magnetite have widespread occurrence. Of these, talc is the only mineral to show significant natural floatability (2,3). Although present in small amounts talc is closely associated with pyroxene and imparts significant floatablity to the high concentrations of pyroxene present in these ores (4). The base metal sulphides consist predominantly of pyrrohtite (~40%), pentlandite (~30%) and chalcopyrite (~15%). The major platinum group minerals are cooperite (PtS), braggite [(Pt,Pd)NiS], sperrylite (PtAs2) and PGE alloys. The UG2 consists predominantly of chromite (between 60 – 90% by volume) with lesser silicate minerals (5 – 30% pyroxene and 1 – 10% plagioclase). Other minerals present in minor concentrations, can include silicates, oxides and base metal sulphides. Total PGE varies by locality but on average range between 4 and 7 g/t. The PGMs present in the UG2 Reef are highly variable, but generally the UG2 is characterised by PGE sulphides such as laurite (RuS2), cooperite (PtS) and braggite [(Pt,Pd)NiS. The base metal sulphides consist predominantly of chalcopyrite, pentlandite and pyrrhotite. The Platreef is located in the northern limb of the Bushveld Complex. This reef consists of a complex assemblage of rock types, with pyroxenites, serpentinites and calc-silicates being the most abundant. Base metal mineralization and platinum group element (PGE) concentrations are found to be highly irregular, both in value as well as in distribution. Explosives are probably the most widely used and most mysterious large scale&apos; mining tools of modern times. The post black powder explosives were primarily nitroglycerin-based straight dynamites, ammonia dynamites, blasting gelatin, gelatin dynamites, ammonia gelatin dynamites, etc. Of these, the strongest and highest velocity explosive used in industrial operations is blasting gelatin, which is nitroglycerin colloided with a nitrocellulose of medium nitrogen content in proportions which give the product a plastic character, or about 93 to 7. Many variations of the basic groups above were developed by substituting ammonium nitrate and/or sodium nitrate for some of the nitroglycerin. The nitrates being insensitive to caps required a certain percentage of nitroglycerin to sustain detonation in smaller quantities or diameters. Paralleling the development of industrial dynamites was the development of more expensive, highly sophisticated explosives which were developed for specific military purposes. Such explosives as Amatol, RDX, Composition A, Composition B, Composition C, Lead Azide, PETN (Pentaerythritol Tetranitrate), Tetryl, Pentolite, TNT, etc., were primarily military explosives. Amatol, which is a cast mixture of ammonium nitrate and TNT (Trinitrotoluene), and identified by percentage of AN versus TNT as 50-50 Amatol, 80-20 Amatol, etc., was a favorite World War I explosive. RDX, or Cyclonite, was widely used in World War II. Also used during WW II were compositions A. B, and C, which were mixtures of RDX (Cyclotrimethylene trinitramine), TNT, and other nitrotoluenes. These high explosives, along with nitroglycerine, are exact chemical compositions or mixtures of exact chemical compositions which are individually explosive, or in other words, individually capable of explosive chemical decomposition when properly initiated. These chemical decompositions result in the formation of simpler compounds and/or large quantities of common combustion gases, and large amounts of energy in the form of heat. Of these, the most powerful is RDX which, based on the ballistic mortor test, is 1.5 times as powerful as TNT. Chemically, the decomposition of TNT releases about as much energy as the reaction of ammonium nitrate and fuel oil.

"The 13.2 m external diameter double deck Istanbul Strait Road Tube Crossing is one of the most challenging underwater tunnel projects in the world. Subjected to 11 bars of hydrostatic pressure, variable geology, and being in a very active seismic area, the execution of the project required innovative solutions, sophisticated construction techniques, and prudent risk management approach. The 5 km tunnel consists of 3.4 km TBM bored tunnel, 1 km twin NATM tunnels, and cut and cover sections. The project is being delivered in a Build-Operate-Transfer (BOT) contract in a public-private partnership. The technical challenges, coupled with financial and commercial risks required the implementation of sophisticated risk management tactics including the provision of Independent Design Verification. Presently, the project is in its advanced stages of construction with a recent successful TBM breakthrough on August 22nd 2015. The paper presents the technical challenges of the project from the design, construction, and risk management aspects and provides the status of the construction. PROJECT BACKGROUND The $1.245 billion Istanbul Strait Road Tunnel Crossing project, dubbed the Eurasia Tunnel, is one of several major infrastructure projects being implemented in the Republic of Turkey in a public-private partnership approach. The project provides a direct and easy connection between the Anatolian (Asian) side of Istanbul and the heart of its historical district on the European side across the Bosphorus Strait which connects the Black Sea with the Sea of Marmara. Upon its completion in 2017, the project will improve connections to a wide network of motorways on both sides, increase capacity across the Bosphorus by 100,000 vehicles a day, reduce congestion and save motorists an average of 45 minutes of commuting time in each direction, and bringing significant economic benefits to the city and the region; it will ease traffic across the strait, reduce congestion, decrease pollutants and emission while maintaining the historical silhouette of the city. Figure 1 provides a general view of the project location and alignment. The overall project consists of three parts totaling 14.6km. Parts 1 and 3 consist mainly of widening existing motorways, providing connections to existing roads, reconstructing local bridges and underpasses on the European and Anatolian sides respectively. Part 2 is the tunnel crossing across the Bosphorus; it is the most complex part of the project with the greatest challenges and risks. Part 2 is 5.4 km long consisting of 3.4 km of 13.2m external diameter TBM bored tunnel under the Bosphorus Strait, 1-km of twin NATM tunnels on the Asian side, cut and cover transition boxes in the Asian and the European sides and depressed approaches on both sides. In addition, this segment includes the toll plazas, ventilation buildings, and the tunnel control and maintenance facilities."

"INTRODUCTION Cohesive soils are notorious for causing clogging of the cutter head and the excavation chamber of tunnel boring machines (TBMs). While clogging leads to a drastic reduction in excavation performance, it further induces higher wear of tools and other parts of the cutter head and may even prevent a controlled support of the tunnel face and, thus, lead to face collapse and excess settlements or sinkholes. Employing well-balanced soil conditioning techniques, the clogging tendency can be significantly reduced. The monitoring and control of soil conditioning as well as the timely detection of potential clogging tendencies require a close monitoring of all relevant machine parameters and measurements. To this end, a reliable and powerful Process Controlling software that gathers all machine and process-related information is a prerequisite for successful mitigation of clogging-induced problems. The remainder of this contribution is organized as follows: First, a brief introduction to the Process Controlling system PROCON is given. Afterwards, the mechanisms and mitigation techniques of clogging are discussed. Finally, an example is given how Process Controlling has been employed to soil conditioning in a tunneling project with highly clogging soils.PROCESS CONTROLLING Being both the active part and a huge measuring device, the shield machine represents the core component in mechanized tunneling. This machine comprises a manifold of complex components and devices that require constant supervision and control and, thus, is equipped with a manifold of different sensors that provide a continuous monitoring of the state and condition of the machine (Maidl & Stascheit, 2014). If these data are put into the whole context of the tunneling process, they can provide insight to the assessment and optimization of the performance and to the prediction of potential risks and hazards such as, for example, the tendency of clogging of the cutter head."

The 1982 recession set the US mining and metals industries reeling. Will the oncoming recession of 1991 hit as hard? Probably not, thanks to a shallower downturn, a weaker dollar and remarkable lower costs. Effects of the last recession That the 1982 recession was traumatic to the American mining and metals industry is an understatement. Quantities of metals consumed dropped. Metals prices fell despite continuing general inflation. The resulting real gross revenues of producers of each of the major metals plunged, in the trough of 1982, to levels one-fourth to two-thirds of those of the peak of 1979 (Table 1). By contrast, most industries in the United States were not hit anywhere nearly as hard. Real GNP, the aggregate of all production, slipped only 1 % from 1979 to 1982. Metals are most sensitive to the business cycle because of their applications. All metals but gold are raw materials to downstream industries. Raw materials are victims of strong fluctuations. This is because buying industries try to hold high inventories in boom periods when goods are in short supply. They reduce inventory levels in buyers markets when suppliers have idle capacity and raw materials are in ample supply.

"SUMMARY The Hachinoshiri tunnel is a 2,469 m long two-lane road tunnel on the Chubu-Odan Expressway. Since more than 70% of the total tunnel length consists of low strength rock masses the competence factor of which is less than 1.0, it is expected that a self standing span cannot be achievable because of no ground arch to be established. The tunnel was thus designed with tunnel support patterns forming multi-arc early ring closure that can develop the load-carrying capacity estimated from the exerted earth pressure, Po, which can result from the competence factor, cf. The tunnel support pattern was selected based on the competence factor at tunnel face, then the subsequent tunnel support patterns were determined with reference to the monitoring data. The tunnel construction adopted full-face excavation accompanied by early ring closure using a 330 kW road header. The proposed construction methods at this tunnel site have turned out ensuring tunnelling in massive squeezing rock, so that they can be verified as reasonable tunnelling technologies, clarifying the relationship between the characteristics of the mechanical behaviour of the tunnel and its design parameters. INTRODUCTION The presence of highly weathered mudstone having the competence factor less than 1.0 where the tunnel became unstable with the early ring closure having the distance to early ring closure, Lf, of 6 meters, resulting in difficulty in maintaining the inner section of the tunnel, prompted a substantial amount of high strength double support and replacing of the tunnel support (Sato et al., 2015). Based on the mechanical characteristics learned from the construction, the mechanical stability of multi-arc tunnels was investigated using 3D FDM analyses with respect to the ratio of the radius for early ring closure, r3/r1, and the distance to early ring closure, Lf, so that tunnel support patterns for early ring closure can be established in terms of the competence factor, of, which was employed for a 725 m long section. Consequently the tunnel support patterns for early ring closure which can be determined from the competence factor became applicable to tunnel construction. The relationship between the characteristics of the mechanical behaviour of the tunnel and its mechanical parameters was also clarified. The early ring closure method adopted ensured tunnelling in massive squeezing rock, verifying its effectiveness in stabilizing the tunnel."
