Coke combustion during sintering process is significantly governed by coke breeze size distribution, which in turn affect sinter quality i.e. sinter granulometry, Tumbler index, Reduction Degradation Index and Reducibility Index of sinter. To know the effect of microfines of coke breeze on sintering process parameters, pot sintering tests were conducted and it was found that when microfines are eliminated and optimum coke size (1-3mm) is used yield of sinter increased by more than 7%. Similarly productivity increased by 9%, the strength of sinter i.e. ISO Tumbler Index increased by 2.3% and +10mm sinter size increased by 5.5%. Controlling of microfines during crushing and by improving crushing index will result in improved quality and productivity of sinter with lesser amount of coke breeze. This paper describes that how to optimize solid fuel i.e. coke breeze consumption in sintering process through granulometry control. Brazil and Colombia have large reserves of coal, those reserves in Brazil are located predominantly in the south and Colombia the main reserves are located in the north. Despite the relative ease of exploitation, these resources have been underestimated as a source of energy. Currently, these countries are developing projects and partnerships aiming to qualify this mineral resource, adding quality to the final product of the processing plants. In this scenario the processing of Brazilian and Colombian coal in flotation columns appears as a promising alternative, having been successful in mineral systems containing fine particles This paper aims to study the overall process of column flotation for a specific Brazilian coal and a specific Colombian coal. The material used in this study consists of fine coal from Brazil (Copelmi) and Colombia (Cerrejon). The objective is to recover carbonaceous matter and reduce the ash and contaminants grade. The two coals were floated using a negative bias in a 5 cm diameter conventional flotation column of 5 m high. Flotation parameter investigated included air velocity in the range 0.6 to 1.5 cm/s. For all runs, a constant negative bias of -0.25 cm/s and a pulp concentration of 8% w/w were used. For Cerrejón coal, 300 g/ton of frother and 907 g/ton of collector was used, whereas for Copelmi coal, 600 g/ton of frother and 1815 g/ton of collector was employed. The frother was a commercial Aerofroth 65 (AF65), whereas the collector was Kerosene. For the Colombian coal, in general, yield, organic recovery, ash recovery and water recovery decreased with the increasing air rate. However, for Brazilian coal the air rate had no significant effect. For Colombian coal, the highest yield (60% w/w) and organic recovery (69% w/w) were obtained at the lowest air rate (0,6 cm/s). In 2004, LKAB decided to start a basic engineering study in expanding its existing production lines at the Malmberget mine site. It was expected that some of the production lines would become bottlenecks with reference to capacity. In this study, the sorting plant is examined and the results show that several unit operations will be limiting under current operating conditions. An additional purpose with the study was to investigate how replacement of some machines would influence performance and if production plans for the coming years might be achieved. Steady-state simulations using the software Modsim? were extensively used to study process performance for different operating conditions, such as iron content and size distribution in run-of-mine ore. Model parameters were derived from pilot plant data and when possible from ex-isting circuits. A complication for the simulations was the lack of relevant data and therefore some of the initial results were only indicative. The result shows that installation of new screens would give a much better operation, but also new crushers would be an improvement. This, since they can be run with full crusher chamber and tighter CSS. During 2007, most of the proposed remedies were implemented and the result is that the bottle-necks are gone, and the grades and material balances are even better than what was envisioned from the simulations.

Various research and developmental work on different aspects of carbon capture technology are being extensively carried out worldwide. The main objective of the present work is to synthesize a HAS material having high capacity and robust ability for recycling to capture greenhouse gases with special reference to carbon dioxide (CO2) from the sources from where it is released to the atmosphere. Existing CO2 capture techniques involves the use of solid materials that lack sufficient stability for repeated use or liquid adsorbents that are expensive and require significant amounts of energy. Considering the subtractive trend of the sulfide and high-grade zinc ores in worldwide and also in Iran, Nowadays special attentions have been drawn to the extraction of zinc from its other resources such as low-grade oxide ores and secondary resources. Oxide ore of the eastern part of Mehdi-abad lead and zinc mine is silicate and has an average grade of 7% (with cut off grade of 4%). Main mineral of the Mehdi-abad ore is Hemimorphite and this mineral is associated with Goethite, Hematite, Ferrous Dolomite, and Manganese oxide mineral so that oxides of Iron, manganese and silica include almost 50% of the total ore. In this paper, the results obtained from the leaching kinetic study of the low-grade zinc oxide ore using Sulfuric acid are presented. The effects of particle size, reaction temperature, acid concentration, and solid percent on the dissolution rate have been investigated. The results obtained from the Taghochi approach showed that the zinc recovery is about 78% under the following optimized conditions: particle size: 106µm, leaching time: one hour, temperature: 45°C, acid concentration: 15% and solid percent: 15%. Kinetics study was revealed that zinc minerals leaching controlled by diffusion rate through the product layer during leaching time with the activation energy of 5 KJ/mol and compliance with the 1- (2/3. x) ? It is known that an addition of rigid particles into a fluid medium changes the flow field. Therefore, the rheological behavior of suspensions will be hardly Newtonian, such as their continuum phase. This phenomena was studied by Einstein in 1906 (Einstein, 1956) for the single case of spherical particles in a continuum liquid of a very dilute suspension. The final analysis applied for suspensions was derived from the evaluation of the behavior of ideal gases, finding a simple expression for the viscosity of the dispersion. All the following works about the hydrodynamics of suspensions at low and high solid contents was based in the Einstein´s model. For clay minerals suspensions where the physical and chemical properties of the particles are complex, it was found that the Einstein´s model is not a good approximation, even so for the most dilute dispersions. The present paper shows a new approximation that describes the non-Newtonian behavior of the suspensions of clays, and the attempt of understand how the different fine sizes, shapes and physico-chemical properties of clay particle surfaces give specific characteristics of plasticity, viscosity or visco elasticity to suspensions. "Vertical stirred mill is expected to upgrade the iron concentrate by further size reduced efficiently. The tests for fine grinding of iron ores from Baiyun Boyu iron ore, Baogang Goup, iron contained tails of Cu-Pb-Zn ore in Wanguo ore, Xiaoshalong iron ore in Qinghai were conducted in this paper. The data of appropriate grinding fineness, optimum grinding conditions and energy consumptions obtained from the test were used to select appropriate scale of the vertical stirred mill, optimize the parameters of the grinding process and upgrade the iron concentrate of the iron ore dressing plant or design the new ore dressing plant. Based on the laboratory tests, industrial system of regrinding and magnetic separation with vertical stirred mill as the regrinding mill in micro-fine grained iron concentrate upgrading has worked out very well. The grade of Fe in iron concentrates has increased to about 65.0% (by 4.0~6.5 point percent) when the iron concentrates were reground to designed fineness and the specific energy is 5.0~7.1kWh/t. The system of regrinding and magnetic separation is proven to be eco-efficient in iron concentrate upgrading."

The key problems of current flowsheets and equipments are analyzed. A new steel slag's crushing flowsheet whose key equipments are the improved inertia cone crusher and inertia vibrating jaw crusher is proposed. An advanced two stage open-circuit crushing method is adopted in the flowsheet, with 90% of particle size crushing under 6mm. Using inertia vibrating technology and selective crushing principle the crushers can realize steel slag separating fully into steel and slag and with flexible transmission mechanism the crusher can be protected when iron lump is passing. The flowsheets can enhance the recovery of metal greatly, and expand the application range of tail slag and added value.

Sodium oleate was an effective diaspore collector, whereas chelate collector OL2 showed certain collecting power over diaspore and nonionic surfactant OL3 showed little collecting ability. Then experiments were carried out using sodium oleate as the main collector with the addition of OL2,OL3 to study the influences on diaspore flotation, it could be seen from the experiments that accelerants had a marked influence on the recovery of diaspore, which could be raised by 10%, and the addition sequence also affected the flotation behavior: the best results could be gained when the accelerants were mixed thoroughly before adding and the best ratio of collector OL1 and accelerant OL2, OL3 stood at 30:2:1. Based on the calculation of the ingredients in the sodium oleate solution, sodium oleate reacted with surface of the mineral and formed the acid-soap polymer [HOl?Ol-] when pH was about 9. Zeta potential test showed the accelerant promoted the absorption of collector on the mineral surface, which lowered zeta potential. As could be seen from surface tension experi-ments, the addition of accelerant OL3 lowered the CMC value of OL1 solution, which was equiva-lent to raise the power of the agents. Further Infrared Ray experiments showed the co-absorption of OL1 and OL2 make aluminum oleate on the mineral surface more stable. Up till now, the mixed reagents with sodium oleate as the main collector, combined with other two accelerants had been used in the Zhongzhou concentration plant, which is the first diaspore flotation plant in China.

Batch biosorption experiments were carried out for the bio-remediation of Cr (VI) ions from aqueous solutions using Serratia marcescens, a Gram negative, heterotroph and Gram positive bacterial isolates from a chromite mine. The influence of various experimental parameters such as contact time, pH, concentration of Cr (VI) ions and amount of biomass was evaluated with respect to the uptake of Cr (VI). The bio-sorption of Cr (VI) was found to be quite rapid and the percentage biosortion was found to increase with increase in the equilibrium chromium concentration. The free energy of biosorption of Cr (VI) was estimated to be in the range of -23 to -25 kJ/mol for the chosen bacteria. The uptake of chromium by the bacteria was confirmed by EDX and FTIR spectroscopy. As a follow up of this study, bacterial strains resistant to hexavalent chromium were isolated from a chromite mine in Karnataka, India and identified as Arthrobacter sp., Micrococcus sp. and Exiguobacterium sp. using 16s rRNA sequencing. The efficacy of the bacterial isolates for Cr (VI) uptake was assessed and over 90% bioremoval could be achieved for Serratia marcescens and Micrococcus sp. isolate. The purpose of the separation processes in coal processing is obtaining products of certain ash contents. In the most of cases it is assumed that the separation process is described by one, selected parameter, which usually is grain size or material density. The separation may be described by means of statistical distributions of random variables, what allows forecasting the separation results of certain enrichment method. There are very well known the applications of approximations of Tromp separation curves or distribution functions of Erasmus, Meloy or Weibull. It is necessary to say that if the fitness of the approximation more suitable, then the characteristics of the process itself is also better. In purpose of obtaining more appropriate results, these methods were modified by application the mathematical functions, as i.e. hyperbolic tangens function. Furthermore, on the basis of empirical data, so-called interpolations may be performed in purpose of getting more appropriate results of approximation. One of the most known techniques of interpolation is Hughes method. This method for interpolating standard data involves breaking down each interval into a number of smaller sub-intervals. The results of such one-dimensional approach not always contain the full in-formation of the searched distribution. It happens because such interpretation of the problem is not completely correct. In practice, the separation process depends not only on the one parameter (i.e. grain size), but also on many other features characterizing certain material (i.e. its density). It seems then that in some cases the application of multidimensional grain characteristics distributions will be more appropriate. In this paper, the technique of joining the distributions of grain size and density by means of so-called Morgenstern distributions is shown. The general form of these distributions is as following:

According to XRD, DTA and SEM detections, the hydration products of blast furnace slag (BFS) based cementing material SL, SLG. were studied in different age periods. The XRD analysis of cementing material SL hydration products showed that the composition of hydration products were mainly amorphous substances, few crystalline substances. Characteristic peak of ettringite hadn?t been found in the spectral line of DTA, and it hadn?t been found in the figures of SEM, either, which was accordant with the conclusion that the cementing performance of SL mainly coming from gel of hydrated calcium silicate (CSH) and hydrated calcium aluminate. However, the main hydration products of SLG are Aft, CSH, and AFm, which are similar to Portland cement. All results suggest that BFS is a suitable base material for cementation. Yuanjiacun iron ore located in Shanxi province of China has finely disseminated grain size and contains refractory iron-bearing silicate gangue minerals such as chlorite. Therefore, a large amount of secondary slime (the content of -10µm fraction was up to 32.92%) was produced inevitably in fine grinding process, and chlorite was also enriched in concentrate from the content of 4.3% to 14.8% after high intensity magnetic separation. These two characteristics result in the difficulty to deal with Yuanjiacun iron ore by flotation. In this test work, contrast tests between single reverse flotation and selective flocculation desliming-reverse flotation were conducted on Yuanjiacun iron ore. The test results show that after selective flocculation desliming, the iron grade of cationic reverse flotation concentrate increases by 6.15% and the recovery increases by 7.25%; the iron grade of anionic reverse flotation concentrate also increases by 2.15%. Furthermore, analyses of grain size composition and mineral composition were carried out on separation products, the results indicate that selective flocculation desliming plays a dual role of optimizing grain size composition of flotation feed and removing iron-bearing silicate gangue minerals (chlorite) effectively.

"The purpose of the study is to study the feasibility of using sodium diisobutyl dithiophosphinate (DDP) to enhance the recovery of platinum group elements from low-grade refractory copper-nickel ores characterized by a portion of nickel and platinum group elements (PGEs) locked in the dominant sulfide mineral — pyrrhotite. These ore characteristics dictate the need to produce a bulk PGE-containing sulfide concentrate due to the difficulties of producing selective concentrates without a significant loss of the metals.New data on the adsorption and flotation performance of DDP-containing collectors were obtained by measuring the electrode potential, hydrophobicity of the sulfide mineral surfaces and by means of extraction spectrophotometry and flotation studies. The interaction between DDP, pyrrhotite, and pentlandite leads to the formation of surface hydrophobic layers consisting mainly of disulfide and a small amount of metal compounds. These adsorption layers are formed by the reaction with butyl xanthate. In the case of cooperite, DDP reacts with the surface, forming not only disulfide, as in the case of butyl xanthate, but also a complex platinum compound. DDP-containing agents demonstrate stronger collecting properties with respect to sulfide minerals of copper-nickel ores compared to butyl xanthate, which is explained by a stronger hydrophobizing effect and foaming properties.The addition of a combination of DDP-containing agents and butyl xanthate at a ratio of 3:1 for the recovery of sulfides and PGEs in the bulk flotation of copper-nickel ore made it possible to improve the recovery of Ni, Pt, and Pd by 13.6, 9.2, and 9.4%, respectively, relative to the recovery achieved in flotation with butyl xanthate.Bulk flotation with the addition of a composition of DDP-containing agents and butyl xanthate allows the most complete recovery of all valuable elements and is the only technologically feasible method for processing of lowgrade ores, when it is impossible to produce without loss high-grade selective concentrates suitable for smelting."

Low extractions (<80%) in cyanide leaching impose the application of physical and chemical pre-treatment methods (e.g., ultra-fine grinding, roasting, alkaline leaching) prior to cyanide leaching to achieve acceptable recoveries. The effectiveness of the selected pre-treatment method is linked intimately with inherent mineralogical properties of ore. In this study, a refractory silver ore assaying 145 g/t Ag was subjected to various pretreatment tests in an attempt to eliminate its refractoriness. Direct cyanidation of the ground ore (d80: 65 µm) produced a low silver extraction of only 29.5% over 24 h indicating its high refractoriness. Previous studies have shown that silver occurs mainly as Sb/As containing sulfide minerals such as pyrargyrite (Ag3SbS3), tetrahedrite (Cu12Sb4S13) and proustite (Ag3AsS3), which do not respond well to cyanide leaching. Also, silver-containing minerals are closely associated with and/or encapsulated in other mineral phases that can restrict the contact of cyanide with silver. Therefore, alkaline leaching (using 3 M of Na2S, NaOH or KOH solution) and ultra-fine grinding as pre-treatment methods were tested to improve the extraction of silver. All the alkaline leaching tests were carried out for 3 h at800C. Neither NaOH nor KOH leaching produced the desired effect on the extraction of silver (i.e., ~30%). Even, a sharp decrease in the extraction of silver (i.e., 10%) was observed in Na2S leaching. On the other hand, ultra-fine grinding (UFG) (d80: 3 µm) substantially improved the extraction of silver in cyanide leaching (95% Ag at 24 h after UFG). It can be inferred from these findings that the refractoriness of the ore is essentially physical in character (i.e. the encapsulation of silver presumably in non-sulphide minerals such as barite and quartz).

This paper reports the results of the study of the influences of concentration and modulus of sodium potassium silicate solution (Na-K activator) and curing mode on the phase composition, mi-crostructure and strength development in the geopolymers prepared using Class F fly ash. X-ray dif-fraction (XRD), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) and MAS NMR are utilized in this study. It shows that the compressive strength increases while sodium potassium silicate solution modulus increases, but when modulus exceeds 1.7, the compressive strength decreases, and it decreases markedly while modulus is greater than 2.0. The compressive strength improves with increase of sodium potassium silicate solution concentration. When the concentration is 36%, the compressive strength reaches the maximum. Elevated temperature can increase the strength of samples synthesized using sodium potassium silicate solution with 32% concentration and modulus 1.2. Compared to the strength of the sample cured at 50?, the strength of the samples cured at 65? and 80? are higher at 1 day and 3 days, but when cured at 80?, strength is smaller than that cured at 50? for 7 days. When temperature is too high, too long curing time will decrease the strength. Long precuring at room temperature before application of heat is beneficial for strength development, and there is about 10%~50% increase in strength of the samples cured at 1 day precuring and 2 days elevated temperature as compared to the strengths of the samples cured for 3 days at elevated temperature or cured for 28 days at room temperature. The main product of reaction in the geopolymeric material is amorphous alkali aluminosilicate gel.

The objective of the paper was application of bacterial leaching on two brown coal samples from locality Mine Druzba, seams Antonin and Josef (Sokolov brown coal basin, Czech republic). Based on the results of bacterial leaching and petrologic analyses of the given samples, it is possible to say that application of bacterial leaching gived good results. Applying bacterial leaching it is possible to remove from 34% to 47% of total sulphur and from 45% to 64% of pyritic sulphur from the coal.

Fly-ash was used as adsorbent to remove butyl xanthate from aqueous solution in this study. Adsorption kinetics investigation reveals that the adsorption process abides by the Lagergren-second-order Kinetic Model, and fine fly-ash prepared by grinding has a higher second-order adsorption rate as 1.25 g/mg?min and a higher saturated adsorption amount as 10.92mg/g. Four influencing factors as adsorption temperature, solution pH, consumption of fly-ash and adsorption time were investigated. Testing results indicate that butyl xanthate removal rates declines slightly with the temperature increase within the range of 15-50?, increases slightly when pH rises from 7.27 to 8.01 and then declines from 99.65% to 98.25% when pH rises from 8.01 to 11.10. An enhancement of removal rates can be observed by increasing the consumption of the adsorbing agent or prolonging the adsorption time. Thermal desorption was adopted to regenerate the used fly-ash, and test results show that fly-ash possess good regeneration performance and could be used as adsorbent repeatedly with little influence on the adsorption capacity.

A novel ilmenite collector, tert-butyl benzoic hydroxamic acid (TBHA), was investigated in this paper. The flotation performance and adsorption mechanism of TBHA to ilmenite were evaluated through pure mineral flotation tests, ?-potential measurement and IR spectrum analysis. The experiment results indicated that TBHA exhibited strong collecting capability to ilmenite under pH 6.0-8.5. At pH 7.0-10.0, TBHA existed in the form of anionic species in aqueous solution, and the ?-potential measurement results showed the surface of ilmenite maintained negative and more negative after the adsorption TBHA on it, which inferred that TBHA might adsorb on the surface of ilmenite through chemical interaction. The IR spectrum analysis further confirmed the chemical interaction between TBHA and ilmenite surface.
