Investor confidence can be compromised when one observes large discrepancies between the SAMREC reserves and the mining plan. It is therefore up to the responsible persons to ensure that all contributing factors get taken into account when determining a reserve declaration. Confounding factors could be further aggravated by large oscillations in the commodity price thus resulting in major changes to the mining plan, if the accepted price was either too optimistic or pessimistic. Additional factors that must receive our attention are, uncertainty in geological facies type, mining practices, geology and grade estimation. The paper outlines (in the authors? opinion) some of the important factors that need to be taken into account, in order to ensure proper alignment between the estimates of the life of mine (LOM) reserve grades, and the corresponding actualisation of the mining plan. These parameters provide an historical insight into what actually happens when attempts are made to implement the mining envisaged in the LOM plan. In turn these allow judicious application of discount factors that enable a realistic estimate of SAMREC reserve classification and declaration. Some of the factors that will be covered are: - 1) Flexibility of developed reserves and the ability to maintain this. 2) Mining control mechanisms and their overall efficacy. 3) The ability to extrapolate facies types and its effect on grade control. 4) The ability to control the mining mix and value variation. 5) Finding a happy medium between optimism and pragmatism.

A running facebreak ahead of the powered support units occurred on the number 4 seam at Matla Coal’s number 3 shaft (Matla 3) in April and May 2002.Very difficult mining conditions were experienced for a distance of some 150 m in the tailgate and to a lesser extent on the face itself. The paper analyses the main causes for the high stress conditions leading to the facebreak, namely, the existence of a >20 m dolerite sill close to surface and the effect of stopping longwalling on the overlying 5 seam. Difficulties experienced during the facebreak are discussed, including, pillar and roof collapses in the tailgate, high stress areas ahead of the face causing roof and sidewall stability problems, flushing of broken rock into the face area at the tailgate, secondary mid-face breaks, and the availability of critical support units. Successful rock engineering interventions and learning points were that, a goaf angle of 14.6° was found to be more realistic than the previously used 20 to 25° in predicting dolerite sill behaviour in this area, pre-split blasting of the sill significantly reduced stress on the face and tailgate allowing re-support work to proceed, varying pillar support types were analysed and rated, the need to always have a ground control “First Aid” kit available was recognised and a strategy for subsequent panels beneath the sill was developed. Numerous support units were used and the performance of the more suitable types is briefly discussed. L’étude présente analyse les raison majeures pour les conditions de grandes contraintes qui ont conduit à la cassure de taille, à savoir l’existence d’un mur de dolérite de >20m proche de la surface et l’effet d’arrêter la longue taille sur la veine 5 superposée. Les difficultés rencontrées pendant la cassure de taille sont rapportées, y compris les effondrements de piliers et toit dans la voie de tête, les aires de grandes contraintes en avant du front de taille causant des problèmes de stabilité pour le toit et les parois latérales, l’injection de roches cassées dans la taille en voie de tête, les cassures secondaires à mi-taille, et la disponibilité d’unités de soutènement critiques. Ion exchange is considered to be an effective technology for the removal of various impurities from cobalt advance electrolytes. With the correct choice of resin, ion exchange can consistently remove the required impurities to the levels for the production of high-grade cobalt metal. Although ion exchange was in the past used primarily for nickel removal, more recently it has been also considered for the removal of copper, zinc, and cadmium. Generally, granular ion exchange products are used, but Mintek is currently evaluating ion exchange fibres for a number of applications, including the removal of copper from cobalt advance electrolytes. Fibrous ion exchangers have major advantages compared to granular resins in that they have significantly higher reaction rates, and wash water volumes could be limited. Granular and fibrous ion exchangers were evaluated and compared for the removal of copper from cobalt advance electrolyte. A synthetic electrolyte containing 50 g/L cobalt and 50 mg/L copper was used for the test work. Equilibrium isotherms, mini-column tests, and split elution tests were done. The results were used to size a full-scale operation to treat 100 m3/h of electrolyte. The potential cobalt losses or recycle requirements were estimated, and data to calculate indicative operating costs for each adsorbent was generated. This information was used for a techno-economic comparison of granular and fibrous ion exchange systems for the removal of copper from cobalt advance electrolyte.

"A laboratory froth flotation experiment was conducted on a low-grade carbonatite copper ore sample obtained from Phalaborwa in the Limpopo province of South Africa. The sample was a homogenous hydrocyclone overflow which serves as the feed to the flotation cells at Palabora Mining Company (PMC). The sample has an average copper assay of 0.59% with predominant copper-bearing minerals being chalcopyrite, bornite and cubanite. The carbonatite nature of the ore comes from the high content of calcium (28.85%) and magnesium (6.84%) minerals. Collectors used were sodium diethyl dithiocarbamate and potassium ethyl xanthate alongside Senfroth 38 supplied by Senmin. The results showed that at 200 g/t mixture of collectors (50:50), an optimum grade of 8.03% Cu in the rougher flotation concentrate was achieved at 74% recovery, while during the second flotation, 24.65% Cu was obtained at 74.4% recovery using a Senfroth 38 dosage of 6 L/t with 100 g/t mixed (50:50) collectors. The particle size and pH value of the pulp played a significant role in that the mixed collectors performed efficiently at pH above 8.3 and at room temperature while particle sizes greater than 53 µm were well concentrated when compared with those of less than 53 µm. INTRODUCTION The need for copper ore concentration research is on the rise as a result of the depletion of deposits and the advent of low-grade copper ores. Although most copper ore deposits have other valuable minerals that support their economic extraction, the increase in technological innovations as regards copper usage and applications has increased the demand for copper. Several factors influence concentration results in a froth flotation column, of which the reagent used is most influential."

Dowding, Reynard and Associates Mineral Projects (DRAMP) was approached by the ARM/Lion Ore JV during July 2006 to conduct a feasibility study and control budget estimate for a new greenfield project for their NKOMATI Nickel mine 45 km east of Machadadorp. The scope included the evaluation and review of previous studies as well as a techno-economic trade-off on four possible comminution circuits ranging from conventional crushing and ball milling to fully autogenous milling. The following document encapsulates the thought process, decisions and the references used in selecting the final comminution route for the new 375 ktpm MMZ concentrator. Apart from the pilot test work performed, design simulations from a number of sources, performance results from a recently commissioned 100 ktpm MMZ concentrator, together with an understanding of the geology and mineralogy of the orebody and possible variations in the characteristics of the orebody over the life of mine were assessed. The results from all the above-mentioned work indicated that it would be possible to treat the MMZ ore at the desired throughputs to the desired grind sizes in a fully autogenous grinding (ABC-type) circuit. Autogenous milling is generally considered to be one of the higher risk milling circuits. This is mainly due to the fact that the ore, which is utilized as the grinding media, could be variable in terms of hardness and mineralogy/geology. Nevertheless, it is a very popular route as the cost benefits, more specifically the operating cost, are normally very attractive. This is especially the case when large low grade orebodies are evaluated. In North/South America, autogenous and semi-autogenous grinding circuits have been successfully employed during the past 20 years on large scale low grade operations. Taking all the above factors into account, the DRA/Nkomati project team recommended an autogenous circuit with the option to add steel to both the primary and secondary mills (if required) for the new operation in order to create the opportunity for significant operating cost savings. One has to bear in mind that all the new design simulations and decisions are based on previous work and potential unknown variations within the orebody will never be fully understood until the pit is operational for some time.

Block Cave mining is one method used to extract ore from underground diamond mines as well as other massive orebodies such as copper. This necessitates the excavation of many kilometers of tunnel within the ore body. The integrity of these excavations needs to be maintained over a number of years. Most Kimberlites and weak orebodies are extremely susceptible to degradation when exposed to moisture and the atmosphere. It is therefore essential that some form of weathering protection is applied as soon as possible after exposure. Conventional methods of weathering protection such as shotcrete do not easily fit in with the production schedule, hence the need for a more efficient system that could be applied immediately after exposure and serve as a temporary support or even as a permanent support medium. The main advantages of thin sprayed liners (TSL) compared to shotcrete are the ease of application, speed of application, early strength, much reduced transportation of material, less labour intensive and cost effectiveness. Several Thin Sprayed Liners suitable for various mining environments and geotechnical conditions are available and could be well suited as additional support the undercut level development in a block cave where this may be required. TSL offer a cost effective support solution as an alternative to shotcrete in areas where the building of a support structure is not a requirement.

The selection of an underground mining method stems from a multivariate analysis that considers geomechanical, geological, economic, and operational parameters. Even after identifying the most compatible method, there is no assurance that the mining company will achieve the best performance. The geological complexity of some deposits requires adaptations of methods described in the literature to obtain more selectivity and reduce mining waste. There are some studies on geometry of underground structures, but a methodology that describes an adaptation of a room-and-pillar mining method for ore bodies with down-dip varying from 20° to 25° is novel. The present work aimed to reduce dilution by adapting the traditional room-and-pillar mining method (TRP) to inclined ore boLittle attention has been paid to the rehabilitation of derelict and ownerless mines in South Africa after their lifespan. This paper aims to explore management gaps in legislation that have resulted in the non-rehabilitation of derelict and ownerless mines in South Africa. There is growing evidence that supports the distressing effects of mining on people living around these mines in the North West Province. This paper was motivated by the current socio-economic status quo of old mining towns, the influx of illegal miners (Zama Zamas), severe environmental damages, and the violence associated with derelict mines. Underpinning this research was an ecosystem approach and integrated resources management principles, which formed the foundation for the decision-making process.The researcher used a mixed-method approach and employed convergent techniques. A semi-structured instrument was used to collect data from 200 respondents. The results indicated that there is a dire need for community-based consultative processes, and an absence of clear guidelines for derelict and ownerless mines to pressure mine management to adhere to rehabilitation standards. Moreover, the mining charter is ambiguous regarding policy implementation, budgetary allocation, and duration of the rehabilitation of these mines. The paper concluded that management challenges associated with derelict mines can be reduced if all stakeholders follow the guidelines as outlined in the environmental legislative framework (NEMA) of South Africa while being open to innovations in line with international best practices. It also contributes towards the development of guidelines for the management and implementation of legislation related to derelict and ownerless mines in South Africa from a philosophical, theoretical, and policy perspectivedies. This new method is entitled short-hole room-and-pillar (SHRP). The equations that measure the dilution are defined according to the geometry of stopes and openings. The results comprise comparative analyses of the operational and planned dilutions to measure the performance of the SHRP method. The average operating dilution of the SHRP method was more than five times lower than the planned dilution according to the TRP method. Low operational dilution indicates high selectivity of the method and its potential to reduce underground mining tailings.

Abstract: From the viewpoint of interaction mechanics of solid and gas, a coupled mathematical model is presented for coal/rock mass deformation and gas leak flow in parallel deformable coal seams. Numerical simulations for the prediction of the safety range of mining of protection layer are performed with experimental data from a mine with potential danger of coal/gas outbursts. Analyses show that the numerical simulation results are consistent with the measured data on the spot. Therefore, the coupled model shows a positive future for applications in a wide range. ZUSAMMENFASSUNG:Von der Veranschaulichung der Abhängigkeit Mechaniker für Körper und Gas, wird ein verbundenes mathematisches Modell für festen coal/rock Deformation und Gasleckstelle Fluß in parallele deformable Kohlenähte dargestellt. Numerische Simulationen für die Vorhersage der Sicherheit Strecke, die Schutzschichtbergbau verwendet, werden mit experimentellen Daten von einer Grube mit möglicher Gefahr der coal/gas Ausbrüche durchgeführt. Analysen zeigen, daß die numerischen Simulation Resultate mit den gemessenen Daten bezüglich des Punktes gleichbleibend sind. Folglich zeigt das verbundene Modell eine positive Zukunft für Anwendungen in einer breiten Strecke. RÉSUMÉ: Du point de vue de la mécanique d'interaction pour le solide et le gaz, un modèle mathématique couplé est présenté pour l'écoulement plein de déformation de coal/rock et de fuite de gaz dans les filons houillers deformable parallèles. Des simulations numériques pour la prévision de la gamme de sûreté employant l'exploitation de couche de protection sont effectuées avec des données expérimentales d'une mine avec le danger potentiel des accès de coal/gas. Les analyses prouvent que les résultats numériques de simulation sont conformés aux données mesurées sur place. Par conséquent, le modèle couplé montre un futur positif pour des applications dans un éventail.

This paper describes developments in ferro-nickel furnace technology, specifically improvements to cooling methods, furnace controls, and high voltage furnace operating regime. The evolution of these technologies is briefly presented, as context for describing the current state of the art that has enabled ferro-nickel furnace operation at over 75 MW and specific energy consumption of less than 400 kWh/t dry ore. Examples from existing operations are used to illustrate present best practices, and potential future trends are discussed. The paper begins with an overview of the fundamental aspects of pyrometallurgical treatment of lateritic ores that drive ferro-nickel furnace design. Furnace wall cooling methods are related to the requirements resulting from specific furnace process conditions, including slag and metal compositions, as well as arc and bath power. The benefits of high productivity and low specific energy consumption resulting from high voltage (shielded-arc) operating practice are discussed, along with the furnace controls and electrical power train that enable such operation even with captive power generation.

The stability of slopes is a crucial problem not only in open pit mines, but also in civil engineering situations. The deformational behaviour of slopes is in general monitored during/after the excavation by carrying out field measurements where displacement measurements are commonly adopted. In monitoring the slope stability it should be emphasized that the measurement results must be properly interpreted so as to assess whether the slopes are stable or become unstable in the future. In order to interpret the data, back analysis is extremely useful. In this paper a slope stability monitoring system is described. It consists of displacement measurements by GPS, and a back analysis of measured data. The use of GPS has a great advantage, because of the fact that continuous displacement measurements with high accuracy for a large extent of concerned area can be easily achieved. On the other hand, the back analysis can reveal the mechanical characteristics of the ground, which make it possible to assess the stability of slopes quantitatively.

Metal mining operations, in particular gold mining operations, use intensive ore control procedures in order to manage the extraction of ore zones from benches containing both ore and waste material. Typical grade control procedures rely on blast hole samples to indicate ore grade. Statistical techniques and geological controls are then used to create two-dimensional polygons, which indicate zones of material designated as ore. These ore-polygons are calculated using pre-blast material locations and are generally not corrected for rock movement caused by blasting. This lack of correction appears to exacerbate the material mischaracterization problem of sending ore to the waste dump and/or waste to the mill. One Nevada gold mining company has estimated that this could be a $10 million per year problem for their operations. Using a simplified vector field algorithm, a method of taking point movement data and interpolating post-blast positions for all nodes in a polygon has been developed. Currently working in 2-dimentions (X-Y), this algorithm utilizes the movement vectors calculated from pre-and post-blast positions of targets placed in a blast, to generate a spatial transformation function for any point on the bench. This transformation is then applied to the nodes of the ore-polygons to produce modified dig lines ore polygons reflecting distortion and movement resulting from the blast. The method as implemented uses common mine planning routines and is performed using the Surpac software suite. The method may be adapted to use any pre-and post-blast point movement data available, and most mine planning suites include the simple interpolation algorithms used. This study investigates the feasibility of using waste iron slag, the by-product from a mineral sands processing works, in road construction. The study includes the different options investigated for the treatment of a leachate that is produced during the cooling of the iron slag, prior to processing. It also reviews the reasons for choosing the current treatment option that is being trialed. Cooling the iron slag with water results in the formation of a leachate with a high pH and high sulphide concentration. This leachate can seep into the ground and, over time, it will contaminate the ground water. A system was designed to collect and treat the leachate to prevent contamination of surrounding natural water sources. Numerous leachate treatment options were investigated to find cost effective method of treatment After cooling, the iron slag is passed through an iron recovery plant and the unsaleable product is placed on a dumpsite. Rain percolates through the dumpsite, which can result in the formation of a leachate that can contribute to a contaminated plume. After extensive testwork, it was found that the dumpsite, which was leached of contaminants, could be screened and used as a G5material (specifications in Table II) in road construction. The initial challenge was to establish that this material was environmentally safe for use in this particular application. Approval from the Department of Water Affairs (DWAF) was required for the testwork and then for the long-term use of this material in the construction industry. The following challenge involved establishing a market for the material. Construction companies in the area were reluctant to change to a new product that was not naturally occurring. The economics of this project are extremely sensitive to transport costs and hence only projects within a specified radius can be supplied with the Black Top Gravel (BTG). This project is not are venue generator, but it does save the money that would be required to manage the dump, and it reduces the closure costs.

Looking for an idyllic paradise that has investment and business potential as spectacular as the stunning views of mountains, the rich Ganesh Himal zinc-lead deposit exposed between 4,050 m and 5,000 m is the answer. Arising from the sea floor in a span of 55 million years, the enchanting Himalayas had remained one of the most potent factors influencing the Asian region. The challenges of the mighty Himalayas notwithstanding, it continues to provide opportunities for the humankind in optimum usage of the natural resources and sustainable development. Optimal management of natural resources in mountain areas through decision support tools offered by remote sensing will go a long way in realization of the Ganesh Himal Zinc-Lead Project. The authors have a real life endeavor spanning over 37 years in developing a mining industry in a mountainous region of Nepal and an attempt to integrate with the development of other natural attributes of the region. With rapid acceleration of science and technology, humankind has acquired power to transform his environment countless ways and on an unprecedented scale. While mineral resources are the pillars on which we have built industry and infrastructure, industrial countries in the North have been in the forefront of technological advancements, the developed countries of the South have been at the receiving end of exploitation of mineral resources worldwide. A relationship with natural environment, re-crafted by the civilizing impulse, to meet human demands are upcoming challenges for management of natural resource in sustainable manner for a livable world.

The paper presents the comments on the advantages of implementing an integrated system of managing mining exploitation in hard coal mines, as well as the comprehensive integration of information on the process of deposit exploitation with economic data, so as to achieve an optimum technical and economic effects. The principles of constructing the production management system have been presented, thanks to which the management boards are provided with reliable technical and economic information on a mining company via information technology. The strategic direction of a company’s operation may currently be verified according to the external conditions that change over time (the information on the deposit, force majeure events, changing expectations of customers, etc.).

Prismatic samples of a medium-grained sandstone from Slask Colliery (Upper Silesian Coal Basin, Poland) were tested under uniaxial compression, conventional triaxial compression and true triaxial compression conditions. The conventional triaxial compression tests were carried out at confining pressure (p) equal to 12.5, 25.0 and 37.5 MPa. In the true triaxial compression tests the minimum principal stress (s3) was equal to 25.0 MPa and the intermediate principal stress (s2) was 1.5, 2 and 2.5 times higher than s3. Results of the studies show that confining pressure strongly inhibited dilatant behavior of rock samples tested under conventional triaxial compression conditions; the increasing confinement resulted in the growing compaction of the rock material. The effect of dilatancy was also highly suppressed by the intermediate principal stress. While important dilatant, negative volumetric strain corresponded to the peak differential stress at low intermediate principal stress conditions, at high intermediate stresses the rock material was damaged to much lesser extent. As a result, faulting of rock samples in the post-peak region was much more violent and was accompanied by a strong acoustic effect. Les échantillons parallélépipédiques du grès à grains moyens de la mine ‘Slask’ (Bassin Houiller de Haute Silésie, Pologne) ont subi les essais de compression monoaxiale (compression simple), de compression triaxiale conventionnelle (compression triaxale de révolution) et de compression triaxiale vraie. Les essais de la compression triaxiale conventionnelle ont été effectués à la pression de confinement de 12,5, 25,0 et 37,5 MPa. Dans les essais de compression triaxiale vraie la contrainte principale minimale (s3) était de 25,0 MPa et la contrainte principale intermédiaire (s2) était 1,5, 2 et 2,5 fois supérieure de s3. Il résulte des essais que la pression de confinement inhibe fortement le processus de dilatance dans les échantillons testés dans les conditions de compression triaxiale conventionnelle; l’augmentation de la pression provoquait l’augmentation du compactage du matériau rocheux. Le phénomène de dilatance était également limité de façon significative par la contrainte principale intermédiaire. Alors que l’importante déformation volumique négative correspondait à la contrainte différentielle ultime avec les faibles contraintes principales intermédiaires, dans les conditions de fortes contraintes intermédiaires, le matériau rocheux subissait l'endommagement de façon beaucoup moins importante. En résultat, la rupture des échantillons rocheux au stade post-maximum était beaucoup plus violente et accompagnée d’un fort effet acoustique. Prismatische Probekörper des mittelkörnigen Sandsteines aus dem Bergwerk ‘Slask’ (das Oberschlesische Kohlengebiet, Polen) wurden unter der einaxialen Druckbeanspruchung, konventionellen dreiaxialen Druckbeanspruchung und der echten dreiaxialen Druckbeanspruchung geprüft. Konventionelle dreiaxiale Druckversuche wurden bei dem Manteldruck von 12,5 25,0 und 37,5 MPa durchgeführt. Bei den echten dreiaxialen Druckversuchen betrug die kleinste Hauptspannung (s3) 25,0 MPa und mittlere Hauptspannung (s2) war 1,5-, 2- und 2,5-mal höher als s3. Aus den durchgeführten Versuchen ergibt sich, dass der Manteldruck die Dilatanzentwicklung bei den Probekörpern unter der konventionellen dreiaxialen Druckbeanspruchung stark bremst; die Erhöhung des Druckes rief die ansteigende Kompaktion des Gesteinsmaterials hervor. Die Dilatanz wurde auch durch die mittlere Hauptspannung beschränkt. Während die wesentlichen volumetrischen, dilatanten Verformungen der Grenzdifferenzspannung bei den niedrigen mittleren Hauptspannungen entsprachen, bei den hohen mittleren Hauptspannungen wurde das Gesteinsmaterial viel weniger beschädigt. Im Ergebnis war der Scherbruch der Gesteinsproben im Post-Peak-Bereich viel heftiger und mit kräftigen akustischen Effekten verbunden.

A computer program was developed to simulate transient strains and stresses during an overcoring in the situ stress measurement. The solution is based on superpositioning of elastic stresses. The measured strains can be compared with the calculated ones to check if the measured transient behaviour is accordant with the interpreted in situ state of stress. If not, the in situ state of stress can be calculated based on any transient or final strain values. The transient stresses can be compared with the strength envelope of intact rock and thereby estimate the core damage potential. Technically, the developed code fulfilled all the objectives, and the numerical error was found to be less than 5%. The basic idea can be applied also for different overcoring probes with minor modifications and recalculation of stress tensors. The analysed case studies showed clearly the advance of having an objective and practical quality control method to study the reliability of the in situ stress measurement data. The study was set up and funded by the nuclear waste management companies Posiva Oy ( Finland ) and Svensk Kärnbränslehantering AB ( Sweden ). Un programme informatique a été développé pour simuler des tensions et des contraintes passagères pendant la mesure in situ de contrainte de surcarottage. La solution se fonde sur une superposition de contraintes élastiques. Les contraintes mesurées peuvent être comparées avec celles calculées pour vérifier si le comportement passager mesuré correspond à l'état de contrainte in situ interprété. Sinon, l'état de contrainte in situ peut être calculé à partir de n'importe quelle valeur de contrainte passagère ou finale. Les contraintes passagères peuvent être comparées avec l'enveloppe de force de roche intacte et ainsi il est possible d'évaluer le potentiel de dégâts au noyau. Techniquement le code développé a rempli tous les objectifs, et le taux d'erreur s'est révélé être inférieur à 5 %. L'idée de base peut être appliquée aussi pour différentes expériences de surcarottage avec des modifications mineures et le recalcul de tenseurs de contrainte. Les études de cas analysées ont montré clairement l'avantage d'avoir une méthode de contrôle de qualité objective et pratique pour étudier la fiabilité de données de mesure de contrainte in situ. L'étude a été fondée et financée par les sociétés de gestion de déchets nucléaires Posiva Oy (Finlande) et Svensk Kärnbränslehantering AB (Suède). Es wurde ein Computerprogramm entwickelt, um Transient-Beanspruchungen und Spannungen während eines Überentkernens in situ-Spannung-Messung zu simulieren. Die Lösung beruht auf Superpositionierung von elastischen Spannungen. Die gemessenen Beanspruchungen können mit den berechneten Daten verglichen werden, um nachzuprüfen, ob das abgemessene Transient-Verhalten mit dem interpretierten in situ-Zustand der Spannung übereinstimmt. Wenn nicht, kann der situ-Zustand der Spannung auf irgendwelchen Transient- oder endgültigen Beanspruchungswerten berechnet werden. Die Transiet-Spannungen können mit dem Stärke-Umschlag des intakten Felsens verglichen werden und dadurch ein Kernbeschädigungspotential kalkulieren. Technisch erkannte der entwickelte Code alle Ziele und hat gefunden, dass die numerische Fehler weniger als 5 % waren. Grundsätzlich können auch verschiedene Überentkernen-Untersuchungen mit kleineren Modifizierungen und Wiederberechnung des Spannung-Tensors angewandt werden. Die analysierten Fallstudien zeigten deutlich den Fortschritt, objektive und praktische Qualitätskontrollmethode zu haben, die Zuverlässigkeit in Situ-Spannung-Messung-Daten zu studieren. Die Studie wurde aufgestellt und durch Atommüll-Management-Firmen Posiva Oy (Finnland) und Svensk Kärnbränslehantering AB (Schweden) finanziert.

Some topics, which difficult the effective use of RMR for dam foundations, are reviewed and a new geomechanics classification system, DMR (Dam Mass Rating), is proposed -as an adaptation of RMR- giving guidelines for several practical aspects in dam engineering and appraisal of dam foundation. On revise quelques problems qui ont fait difficile l’application du RMR pour les fondations des barrages. On propose un nouveau classification système, DMR (Dam Mass Rating)-comme un désarroi du RMR-qui donne recommendations pour quelques problèmes pratiques dans le projet et construction des barrages, et de ses fondations. Es werden einige die praxisgerechte Nutzung des RMR (Rock mass Rating) erschwerende Themen betrachtet und ein neues Geomechanisches Einteilungssystem, das DMR (Dam Mass Rating), eine Anpassung des RMR, vorgeschlagen. Daraus resultieren neue Richtlinien für verschiedene praktische Aspekte beim Dammbau und bei der Beurteilung von Dammunterbauten
