Occasionally it is good to consider the past, assess the present and project the future. Curriculum, enrollment, matriculation of graduates and changes in industry which influence mineral education are all relevant for determining what changes will be needed in educational institutions to support growth and development in the United States. It would appear likely that with environmental pressures, energy needs with present stress in fossil fuels and general societal needs for metals and minerals that mining and metallurgical engineering faces a period of growth and may be on the threshold of a new era with a vitality that has not been enjoyed for several decades. The following information is based on material obtained through questionnaires received from twelve schools accredited in mining or mineral engineering (out of 18 in the U.S.), 2 not accredited and 5 which no longer have mineral engineering disciplines. The schools presented do not include the smaller nor larges of the undergraduate programs in mining engineering.

For several years, or from about 1932 to 1935, inclusive, the coal industry of the United States had an excellent record as to coal-mine explosions. In 1937 and in 1938 to date there has been a definite increase in the number of explosions attended by considerable loss of life and property damage. In most of these explosions one important underlying and contributing cause has been lack of sufficient (or at least efficient) ventilation to properly dilute and remove explosive gas from the mine. This increase in explosions indicates that. the lesson taught through bitter experience, many times in the not far-distant past, of the need for good ventilation is frequently being overlooked, partly because the relatively good experience of the industry in the past several years has made many mining people forgetful. Moreover mining practices are rapidly changing, and in some instances the changes are being made with little if any regard for safety. It appears, therefore, that a review of some ventilation principles and practices should be of value in preventing further disasters; this paper has been prepared with that object in mind. In coal mining the need for thorough ventilation of all underground working places is recognized by both mining practice and law; such ventilation is generally obtained by the use of fans that circulate a quantity of air much in excess of the quantity of coal produced, by weight as well as by volume. For example, in a relatively small mine producing 1,000 tons of coal per day and circulating 100,000 cubic feet of air, which is by no means abnormal, 2,000,000 pounds of coal and approximately 10,900,000 pounds of air would be moved out of the mine every 24 hours. Because of the need for adequate dilution and removal of methane issuing or likely to issue from mine strata and for removal of the carbon dioxide formed by coal and timber oxidation up-to-date coal mines usually provide an air volume which if adequately coursed not only removes these gases but also the gaseous products of the detonation of explosives (which may include carbon monoxide, hydrogen sulphide, nitrogen oxides, carbon dioxide, and nitrogen) and the carbon

At Sams Creek a gold-bearing, peralkaline granite pophyry dike intrudes Ordovician-Silurian metapelite and quartzite. These metasedimentary rocks have undergone three phases of folding: a first phase of recumbent folds (F1), a second phase (F2) of northerly-trending inclined folds with a prominent crenulation cleavage, and a third phase (F3) of steeply plunging folds. The granite porphyry dike has a thickness of up to 40 m and intrudes thin lamprophyre dikes along its contacts. Deflection of the crenulation cleavage around the granite dike, shearing within the dike and its sinuous outcrop pattern indicate that the granite dike has been deformed during F2 and F3. The granite has been hydrothermally altered, with a first stage of magnetite-ankerite alteration. This first stage is cut by a second stage of quartz-pyrite veins and a third stage of sulphide, quartz and ankerite veins, accompanied by pervasive silicification represented by quartz-perthite-albite-rutile¦pyrite-ankerite-sericite assemblages. Lamprophyre is altered to an ankerite-chlorite-sericite assemblage. The sulphide veins are composed of arsenopyrite + pyrite ¦ gold ¦ galena ¦ sphalerite ¦ chalcopyrite ¦ pyrrhotite. The altered granite and the veins have been deformed and recrystallised. The competent sulphide minerals pyrite and arsenopyrite are fractured and brecciated, with fractures locally filled by galena, a ductile sulphide mineral. Vein quartz shows local cataclastic and mortar textures and develops pressure shadows around arsenopyrite. Alteration and mineralisation are confined to the granite porphyry and adjacent lamprophyre. These features together with the style of veining and the sulphide mineralogy indicate that the mineralisation was formed from a magmatichydrothermal fluid that was sourced from the granite. Oxygen, carbon and sulphur isotope values of the vein minerals (quartz, ankerite and sulphides) are also consistent with a magmatic source.

A technique has been developed for carrying out normal freezing experiments with a current density of 2000 amp per sq cut passing through the solid-liquid interface. The equation relating the effective distribution coefficient to the equilibrium distribution coefficient in electric field-aided solidification, originally developed by Huckc et al.,1 has been modified for the case of concentrated solutions. Preliminary experiments on the Sn-Bi system give qualitative agreement with the equation. The data are analyzed by a slightly novel use of the normal freeze equation which allows one to determine the effective distribution coefficient more easily. Very extensive mixing in the liquid was found at these high current densities and it is postulated that the mixing results from a vertical component of the magnetic Lorentz force generated by the electric current. In the search for techniques of obtaining ultrahigh-purity metals the inefficient but very effective technique of electrotransport has received little attention. Electrotransport is most effective in the liquid state and a natural application, therefore, is to apply an electric field across the liquid zone of a zone-melting experiment. The present investigation was undertaken to study the effect of an electric field upon solidification of metals, so that the usefulness of electrotransport in such solidification experiments as zone melting could be determined. In zone-melting and normal-freezing experiments it is difficult to achieve complete mixing in the liquid in the immediate vicinity of the solidifying interface. Consequently a solute build-up will occur at the interface in the portion of the liquid where complete mixing does not occur (an equilibrium distribution coefficient, ko, less than one, and unidirectional atom motion will be implied throughout). This local solute build-up produces a corresponding rise in the solute concentration in the solid so that the ratio of the solute concentration between the solid and the bulk liquid is larger than the equilibrium distribution coefficient. This ratio is defined as the effective distribution coefficient, k,. The differential equation describing the solidification process may be derived by applying the continuity equation to an expression for the net solute flux at the interface. The solution to this differential equation then allows one to determine the solute distribution in the liquid and the relationship between k0 and ke. One of the most useful solutions to this equation was first derived by Burton, Prim, and Slichter,' in which they assumed that a) the equilibrium distribution of solute was maintained on the plane of the interface, 11) the solute build-up ahead of the interface in the liquid disappeared at a distance 6 from the interface, and c) the solute distribution in the liquid was invariant with time. The following well-known relation between ko and ke was then obtained, where R is the rate of solidification and D the diffusion coefficient of the solute in the liquid. This equation appears to correlate the data from a number of different types of solidification experiments very well. Application of an electric field across the solid-liquid interface can produce an additional flow of solute atoms as a result of the electrotransport. When the polarity of the field is such as to direct the electrotransport flux away from the interface the solute build-up may be diminished, even to the point of producing a solute depletion and a consequent ke smaller than ko. The quantitative description of this process and the resulting form of Eq. [I] was first given by Hucke et al.1* and then inde- where E is the electric-field intensity and U is the differential mobility, i.e., the velocity of the solute atoms with respect to the solvent atoms per unit electric field. Both authors follow the method of Burton, Prim, and Slichter in their derivation, the only difference being the additional electrotransport term in the flux equation. It has been pointed out1,3 that Eq. [2] predicts the possibility of a noticeable increase in the purification of materials by solidification in an electric field. "Bonded magnets are important category in permanent magnets. They are made by one of the following processes: compression bonding, injection molding, extrusion, calendering. An overview of the various bonded magnet processes and properties of products made with different magnet materials along with their applications are discussed. The main emphasis will be on the use of bonded NdFeB and ferrite magnets.IntroductionBonded magnets are a major growth area in permanent magnets. Bonded magnets are made by any one of the following processes: Compression bonding; Injection Molding; Extrusion and Calendering [1,2]. Compression and injection molded magnets are rigid magnets. Materials used in calendering process produce flexible magnets. Only the extrusion process makes both rigid and flexible magnets. The binders used for the bonded magnets vary depending on the processes. Thermoset, thermo-plastic and elastomeric binders are respectively used in compression, injection and the calendering process. Extrusion molding uses elastomers or thermo-plastic materials. The most co=on magnetic materials, Ferrite, SmCo, Alnico and NdFeB can be used in any of the above processes either alone or in combination as hybrid magnets. Another material that has been developed for co=ercial application is SmFeN. Making the material has been challenging and it is being used in niche market applications in limited quantitiesIn the extrusion process, a highly loaded compound is used to produce strip or sheet and is continuously extruded through a die. In calendering the granulated compound is rolled to produce a continuous wide sheet. In the compression bonding process a uniaxial pressing force is used. These magnets have higher loading compared to injection molded magnets. In injection molding the material is forced into a mold cavity and has lower loading compared to compression molded magnets [2,3]. Most of the flexible magnets are made using extrusion and calendering processes and the most co=on magnet material is inexpensive ferrite. Flexible magnets have been made using rare earth materials, but on a very limited basis.The major advantages of magnets processed by extrusion and calendering are as follows: inexpensive tooling, automation; practically any 2D geometry; fast production rates; no chipping or breaking; a wide range of properties; on-line magnetization; easy to convert (e.g. cut, punch or shape).Compression bonded magnets are inexpensive to manufacture. They have higher magnetic properties compared to injection molded magnets; however lower than their sintered counterparts. The magnet shape is restricted to simple geometries and they require careful handling. Their isotropic nature allows complex magnetizing patterns."

Over the last few years several important developments have taken place in the Electro- lyte Purification Plant at Copper Refineries Pty. Ltd. A fully automated system for the continuous removal of arsenic has been develop- ed. A submerged combustion process for the removal of nickel has been developed to a stage where patent coverage has been obtained in most of the copper producing countries. A plant has recently been commissioned for the production of Tetra Cupric Arsenate, which it is hoped will find a ready market in the timber preservation industry.

Improving the state-of-the-art of tunneling is a continuing challenge to those involved in underground construction. New methods and procedures are usually evolved over a relatively long period of time as compared to advancements in other types of construction. To a large extent this is probably due to the fact that tunneling deals with a material or medium - the rock structure - whose physical properties are not only extremely varied, but in many instances virtually unknown until time of penetration. This hovering of the unknown tends to make "non believers" of many and at best leads to a general reluctancy of accepting new ideas or procedures. The situation is further complicated by: 1) discrepancies in terminology and respective meanings as used by different disciplines to describe, define or evaluate pertinent factors and their relative effect on the tunneling process and 2) the fact that no two tunneling situations are identical with respect to either geological conditions or construction and contractual requirements. In spite of the above there have been many successfully completed tunnels which make it apparent that both the technical and practical expertise needed to develop or project improvements is available within the industry. ThE superior performance of nonsag tungsten wire in lamps has been ascribed to the large-grained micro-structure that can be developed in it. The orientations of these large grains have been studied several times; most published data1-' appear to be similar to those plotted in Fig. 1. These new data were obtained by X-ray back-reflection Laue technique from all of the large grains occurring in thirteen different wires that had been heated at the lowest possible temperature for the formation of large grains. Here the wire axis is plotted in terms of the principal directions of the cube. Rosi decided that the preferred orientation of the large crystals could be described by a single ideal orientation, (531), being parallel to the wire axis.' Rieck2,3 and Mannerkoski' have essentially confirmed this finding. Opinsky, Orehotsky, and Seigle argued that the data suggest that (211) is parallel to the wire axis instead of a single ideal orientation.5 This {211} contains the (531) ideal orientation and would appear to be a more general case. Ahlborn and Wassermann report that their orientation data stretch from ( 110) through (531) to (311) 8 This is part of the locus of (211). All these investigators have determined the orientations of the large grains by back-reflection Laue techniques. They have all obtained essentially similar results. On the other hand, Swalin and Geisler, who obtained their data by neutron diffraction, indicated that the preferred orientation of the large grains in doped wire is (110) .7 These findings cannot presently be reconciled with the pole density data described in the previous paragraph. Rosi1 and Rieck2 have advanced arguments about how their orientations could occur. Nevertheless, the crystallographic link between the (110) (cold-worked) fiber texture and the preferred orientation of the large grains has remained missing. This link can be provided through the concept of coincidence-type boundaries. Such boundaries separate two grains that have a certain number of common lattice sites. Coincidence relationships that result from rotations about low index directions are given by Brandon et a1 .' What is desired is a calculation of those orientations that bear a coincidence relationship with the (110) fibers of the cold-worked matrix. This situation arises in the following fashion. Heating the tungsten wire for a combination of time and temperature falling short of the formation of the nonsag structure yields a structure that is still fibrous in nature and the preferred orientation remains (110). During grain growth, the growing grain is in contact with these fibers. It is hence possible that the entire process may begin by the passage of a coincidence boundary into a (110) fiber. The calculations were carried out analytically and checked graphically. Following Brandon et a1.,8 coincidence relationships from 1 in 5 to 1 in 19 have been considered. The results of the calculations are given in Fig. 2. Of the coincidences examined, some of those occurring upon rotation about ( 110) come closest to the experimental points in Fig. 1. Nineteen of the twenty-three data points in Fig. 1 can be attributed to the ideal orientations A, B, C, and D in Fig. 2. As determined analytically, three crystals lie within 4 deg of point A, four lie within 21/2 deg of point B, eleven lie within 5 deg of point C, and one lies within 1 deg of point D-a total of nineteen. The off-lying points are near the |110| point of the triangle.

ACCORDING to recently published statistics, it is predicted that as much oil must be produced during the next 16 years as has been produced during the past 75, in order to satisfy the high rate of consumption of petroleum products. During 1934, over 17,000 oil wells were completed in the United States, and it is expected that over 20,000 additional wells will be drilled during the current year. Were it not for the remarkable progress made during recent years in the improvement of drilling technique and in the development of equipment used in the production phase of the oil industry, it is doubtful whether sufficient oil could be produced to meet present requirements. A few years ago, wells seldom were deeper than 3500 to 4000 ft., owing to the limitations of the drilling methods and equipment employed. Today, however, through the application of scientific drilling methods and the adaptation of modern equipment and improved materials, many wells range from 6000 to 8000 ft. in depth, and a few recent completions exceed 10,000 feet.

"Grinding has a significant economic impact on ore dressing/processing, therefore the sizing of mills has an outstanding role.In most cases, the sizing of dry or wet mills for ore processing is primarily based on the determination of the Bond grindability index, using the Bond-Kjos-Rowland relations. In several cases, grinding takes place under conditions different from these and the grinding conditions have a great influence on the post-grinding process. This is particularly true for the grinding of bauxites where grinding takes place in alkali, often in higher temperature (up to 100 ºC) in alkali Liquor. So it is necessary to develop a testing method providing a reliable grindability index even under these special circumstances (grinding in alkalis medium at different temperatures) and allowing a more precise mill sizing. The new heated mill is suitable to determine the grindability index under temperature-controlled circumstances, in liquids with different temperatures (water, alkali). This paper presents in detail the equipment, the conditions (parameters) of the testing process for wet and alkaline grinding, the measuring results and the conclusions."

"Four deep-seated rockslide systems were investigated and are under surveillance by TIWAG (Tyrolean hydro-electric Company) since the mid-1960s after impoundment of Gepatsch reservoir began. These rockslide systems consist of several individual sliding masses (slabs) which show variable activity from zero to a few centimetres per year. The focus in this paper will be on the findings for the transient deformation behaviour of the Hochmais slab which is part of the “Hochmais-Atemkopf” rockslide system.The rock mass has slid over moraine deposits in the last post-glacial period and was in equilibrium (or slow to extremely slow moving, respectively) until the filling of the reservoir began. During the initial reservoir filling in summer 1964 considerable movements had been observed over a length of 1000 m accompanied with an activation of the Hochmais slab. Geological investigations, additional surface and subsurface measurement showed that the sliding mass is characterized by an en bloc movement and the deformation accumulates within a several metre thick shear zone located within the moraine. In contrast to the deformation characteristics for the first impoundment process (1964 – 1966) where the magnitude of deformation occurred during impoundment, the maximum amount of deformation since 1967 occurs during the drawdown of the reservoir. Based on long term measurement it can be shown that the magnitude of deformations per year correlates with the minimum storage level in the reservoir. Other external influences such as precipitation and snowmelt have no observable impact on the deformation characteristic of the landslide. On the basis of long-term data series it was possible to determine the factors of influence and to elaborate a conceptual mechanical model which describes the transient deformation behaviour of the Hochmais slab induced by the drawdown of the reservoir. The mechanical model considers the reduction of uplift forces in the highly fractured and permeable rock slab during drawdown as well as increasing seepage forces in the less permeable moraine material."

The Bureau of Mines performed laboratory experiments to evaluate the triboelectric effect of particulate-laden gas streams on polyethylene pipe at various velocity, humidity, dust-size, and dust-load conditions. Charges in excess of 10 kV were produced on the outside and inside surfaces of laboratory pipe samples, when exposed to 40 pct relative humidity (RH) gas stream containing coal dust. However, no charges were produced in laboratory tests that duplicated the over 75 pct RH and dust-free gas streams found in working underground pipelines. Bare cop- per wire, which is wound around the polyethylene pipe in a 1-ft (31-cm) spacing and grounded, eliminated the charge on the outside surface of the pipe, but not on the inside of the pipe surface,

The well method of producing oil and gas is universally used in the development and operation of oil and gas properties. It consists essentially in the spacing of a number of wells on a given tract, and in drilling and operating them in accordance with established practices. The method is based on a fundamental energy principle. This principle governs the state and the change of state of fluids or fluid mixtures confined under pressure within a porous and permeable reservoir in such a way as to direct a flow from the reservoir into and out of a drilled well with a reduction of potential energy. The application of the well method of producing oil has given data which prove that the total yield of oil from a reservoir through wells is, in general, only a small fractional part of the total oil that is contained in the reservoir. It is generally recognized that a spacing of one well to each 160-acre tract of any good oil pool is too wide. However, one well to this 160-acre tract will yield a large quantity of oil and in time will dissipate most, if not all, of the potential energy that was originally stored and retained in the fluids by pressure. Two wells spaced and drilled on this 160-acre tract would yield approximately twice the quantity of oil, while four wells would yield approximately four times the oil. A well spacing is soon reached, with the addition of wells to this 160-acre tract, in which the drainage interference of offset wells will materially affect the yield of oil per well. The increased yield of oil, therefore, is not directly proportional to the added number of wells but the increased costs of development are directly proportional to the added number of wells. It is evident that while an added number of wells to this 160-acre tract yields an increased quantity of oil, there is an economic limit to the number of wells to be added. This paper describes work carried out to obtain a heat balance in the B3 shaft longwall stope at Blyvooruitzicht gold mine. Recordings were made of the temperature of the air and chilled water entering and leaving the section during three periods, August 1 September 1977, November 1 December 1977 and March 1978. These recordings, together with numerous other measurements were used to determine the rate at which heat was being removed from the section by the various fluids flowing through the section. The rate at which heat was entering the section was then calculated, by considering each source in turn. These two sets of figures made it possible to draw up a heat balance, and also obviously gave vital information on the magnitudes of the various heat sources and on the methods used to remove heat. In general reasonable heat balances were obtained, the errors being in the range -6 per cent to +22 per cent.

THE magnetic iron ores of the Rees & Wilder tract, Unaka Mountains, East Tennessee, and North Carolina, so far as examined by me, are peculiar in containing considerable quantities of the mineral zircon in dark red-brown crystals, ranging in size from one-tenth of an inch, or less, to five-tenths of an inch in length. As zircons are decomposed by fusion with alkalies, the constituents may exert some favorable influence upon the iron product, which is generally acknowledged to be of superior quality. The occurrence of dusts in underground workings creates many difficult and, in some instances, contradictory and conflicting problems for workers, operators, and all others interested in health and safety in mining and tunneling. Moreover, there are many misconceptions both as to the actual effect of most dusts which may be encountered in underground work and as to remedial or alleviating measures. Although the harmfulness of mine dusts to health of miners has been mentioned by man; writers in ancient times, much of our really authentic knowledge of the effect of underground dusts upon health or safety in both coal and metal mines has been pained during the past 30 or 35 years. There has been, however, a considerable amount of generalizing from some local condition or occurrence or theory rather than arriving at conclusions after extended studies and observations made not only in mines and tunnels but also in town, camps, and plants, and comprising date on as many different mining and tunneling localities, conditions, etc., as could be secured with reasonable expenditure of time or money. This paper dives sortie observations based on the writer's 30 odd years of experience in and around both coal and metal mines, including approximately 20 years? close study of dust disease with detailed surveys and reports on dust occurrence and effects in considerably more than 100 mines in probably 20 States of the Union. The observatio are those of an engineer and in many respects conflict the with "going" ideas of doctors, pathologists, and others who have written on dust disease. Were the word dust is used in this p: per in connection with respiratory disease, it refers to solid particles which float or can float in the air breathed by workers. Although these particles are usually dry, they may be wet; in general, their dimensions are so small as to be invisible to the nailed eye. Dusts in coal mines which may be involved in the initiation or extension of explosions, are generally thought to be those which are smaller than 20-mesh in size but chiefly finer than 20-mesh; coal-mine dusts which are harmful to health of workers have essentially the same general physical characteristics as other dusts, but usually consist of smaller particles.

At that time the financial markets were on the verge of collapse and my presentation described the issues. Unfortunately I was correct, and global markets went into a steep nosedive, creating the largest economic downturn since the Great Depression.In hindsight, there were plenty of signs that this was coming. The Supercycle had created massive new wealth. This wealth was largely invested in the United States due to the country’s political stability and credit worthiness. In 2004, the large investment banks convinced the U.S. Securities Exchange Commission (SEC) to allow them to triple their borrowing leverage ratios. This made the banks more vulnerable to market volatility. The banks then lent money to NINJAS - people with no income, no job and no assets. Even worse was the fact that these unqualified home owners used adjusted-rate mortgages (ARMs) which they, of course, intended to refinance prior to interest rates rising. These mortgages were then bundled up by the banks and sold to investors as “safe” investment products. The money flowed into these products because the rating agencies gave these instruments high marks. These same agencies earned their fees from the very same banks seeking high ratings. (No conflict there). Private debt exploded and peaked out in 2008.These mortgage products were sold in an unregulated shadow banking system and the ARMs came due. Toxic mortgage default rates skyrocketed and the mortgage-backed securities collapsed in value. This house of cards had a negative feedback loop that accelerated the market crash and resulted in more than $1.5 trillion being lost in the securitization sector, a 47 percent decline in the Dow Jones Industrial Average, foreclosure rates skyrocketing and housing prices collapsing. The financial markets were in a nosedive."

THE migration of carbon in austenite under the influence of an electric current has been observed qualitatively several times.14 Lebedev and Guterman5 recently have reported quantitative measurements; their method consisted of welding a low-carbon to a high-carbon wire, passing current, and later estimating the carbon distribution metal-lographically. We believe the method reported in this paper is superior in principle since electrolytic migration and ordinary diffusion are not necessarily coupled as in the weld method; also for the first time the extent of migration is determined by combustion analysis for carbon. A uniform tubular specimen (S.A.E. 1045 or 1095) was mounted as illustrated in the figures. the whole assembly being in an atmosphere of purified nitrogen. Direct current (129 to 226 amp at 0.65 to 1.0 v) served as source both of heat and of potential gradient for carbon migration. The duration of experiment was 7.5 to 12 hr, during which time the temperature was controlled (±10°C) manually. The experimental conditions are indicated in the first five columns of table I. With this experimental arrangement, the temperature initially has a maximum value at the central plane. Also, in this vicinity (by virtue of the symmetry), the carbon entering any volume element is equal in quantity to that leaving; the loss or accumulation of carbon occurs near the electrodes since the carbon moves uniformly near the center and is "frozen" at the cold ends. Hence, providing the time of experiment is not sufficiently long to seriously influence the conditions at the central plane, carbon crosses this plane only under the influence of the electrical potential gradient and not under the influence of temperature or concentration gradient. The amount of carbon which has crossed this plane was determined by combustion analysis of the two halves of the specimen. The results of these analyses are shown in the sixth and seventh columns of table I. It will be noted that substantial amounts of carbon migrated from the anode portion to the cathode portion (except at 920°C, which temperature was too low to exhibit the effect in the allotted time). In spite of precau-tions taken, considerable decarburization occurred as may be seen by comparing cols. 8 and 5. In three cases (indicated by asterisks in table I) the specimen was ground on one side, polished, and examined metallographically before analysis. One specimen was normalized and re-examined. Micrographs of selected areas in specimens 4 and 6 are shown in figs. 1 and 2, respectively. Evidence of carbon migration from the anode toward the cathode is quite apparent. Fig. 2 shows abundant graphite as well as cementite in a region near the cathode. The temperature of this zone is estimated at about 800°C. In fig. 1, particularly in the micrograph on the extreme right (the right side of which is of unaltered carbon content), there is evidence of slight depletion of carbon in the immediate vicinity of the cathode as contrasted to the general increase in carbon of the cathode half of the specimen. Although this may be attributed in part to decarbur-ization, it is believed that it is occasioned also by thermal diffusion—migration (of carbon) from a cool to a hot zone4—a phenomenon superimposed upon the electrical migration.
