El distrito ha producido menas de plata y oro durante la Colonia y menas de cobre, zinc y plomo en la actualidad. La plata se incluye en la galena y en la tetraedrita. Algunas vetas contienen cantidades menores de enargita, estibina, jamesonita, boulangeritá y bournonita. La baritina es la ganga principal. También se encuentran: marcasita, pirrotina, rodocrosita, dolomita y calcita. La plata nativa encontrada en la época colonial ya no se encuentra.

Success of the environmentally benign semiconductor manufacturing depends on the cost-effective integration of the principles of reduce, recover, reuse and recycle from source material to final product disposal. Increasing demand combined with current shortage of polysilicon provided unique opportunities to recover the silicon waste, caused by various defects, in wafer manufacturing process. Current practices relating to recovery and reuse of waste silicon produced, from crystal growth process to finally polished and epitaxially deposited silicon wafer, at Mitsubishi Silicon America is presented. Future plan to recycle the process generated silicon fines produced during the intermediate steps of the wafer manufacturing process such as grinding, slicing, lapping and polishing is also discussed.

The Pb,Sb,Zn multi-metal sulphide ore is processed in sequence of beneficiation of jamesonite, sphalerite . Due to relative large amount of collector (xanthate), activator (CuSO4) and regulator (lime) during different flotation stage, the flotation wastewater from sphalerite beneficiation stage can’t be directly recycled to the first lead flotation stage. In this paper, the flotation wastewater from sphalerite beneficiation stage was treated by Ozone and BAC technology, results showed that when the influent concentation of COD and copper ion were 850 mg/L, 10.48mg/L respectively, the Ozone and BAC technology could effectively treat such type of water. In the treated wastewater, the COD is 60mg/L, copper ion concentration is 0.023mg/L, pH is 7.0, which satisfy the need of Pb,Sb-Zn preferential floatation separation process. After recycle of the treated wastewater to Pb,Sb floatation circuit, qualified Pb,Sb concentrate and Zn concentrate were obtained.

Recycled materials are increasingly being used in road construction to supplement natural aggregate derived from crushed stone, sand, and gravel. An understanding of the amount of substitution that is taking place, its economics, and factors affecting the level of substitution is useful in estimating the potential for recycling and in assessing the total supply of aggregate. While U.S. consumption of recycled aggregates from crushed concrete is estimated to have increased 160 percent between 1994 and 1996; it comprised less than 5 percent of total aggregates consumed in 1995. Construction waste supply is regional, and is determined by infrastructure decay and replacement rates. Aggregate recycling rates are greater in urban areas where infrastructure is being replaced, natural aggregate resources are limited, disposal costs are high, or strict environmental regulations prevent disposal. Recycling is expected to increase as construction contractors attempt to save on transportation, disposal, and new material costs. Aggregate producers include recycled material as an option to consumers in order to prolong the life of their reserves and improve their range of products. Recycled aggregates can be a supplement for natural aggregates in selected applications, but their use should be evaluated locally based upon relative cost, quality, and market factors Because aggregate recycling is often affected by local and regional transportation systems, disposal and tipping fees, resource supply, the market for specific products, and municipal support, costs for three representative fixed site operations of different sizes were modeled. Under study conditions, all were found to be profitable, but highly dependent upon local tipping fees and market prices, which can differ significantly by location. Smaller operations were found to have different operational dynamics, often requiring creative marketing or incentives to maintain profitability.

Seventy-three of the 90 naturally occurring elements that are found in the earth's crust are metals or metalloids. The quantities of metals used annually in the United States range from about 100 million metric tons (steel) to a few kilograms (osmium). The recovery of metals from discarded products or industrial process wastes, especially those metals that are used in large quantity, are very expensive, or are unusually toxic, is important to the national economy and to the natural environment. From its inception in 1910, the U.S. Bureau of Mines (USBM) has been the Government's prime source of information on metals recycling, as well as a major innovator in recycling technology. Statistical data on scrap generation and processing have been summarized annually for many years in the USBM's Minerals Yearbook. Most of the data for individual metals discussed in this report were extracted from that publication.

"Fabric from weaved yarns made of jute fibers have been considered as reinforcement for polymeric composites. In particular, these fabrics obtained from discarded sackcloth are presently being investigated as environmentally friendly composites with recycled polyethylene matrix. The objective of the present work was to compare the practical properties and economical aspects of these composites with those of conventional materials such as wooden board and gypsum panels for building application. The comparison showed that, depending on the amount of post-used jute fabric, a cost/benefit analysis favors these composites over the conventional materials.IntroductionThe increasing amount of wastes generated by human activities is becoming a worldwide problem of pollution with growing consequences to the environment. The question on how to dispose these wastes is, therefore, a major global issue. Among the possibilities of it gating the problem, the use of materials with characteristics of being renewable, biodegradable and recyclable is considered an environmentally correct solution. Examples of this type of materials are left over lignocellulosic fiber from coconut husks and sugarcane bagasse [1] that, after the primary extraction of edible pulp and juices, can be recover for industrial application. Nowadays, the main use of these fibers is to reinforce polymeric composites applied as components for building construction and automobile parts [2,3]. In addition to these applications, composites reinforced with residual lignocellulosic fibers may replace conventional furniture and panels made of wood and thus help to reduce deforestation [4].Environmental protection is not the only motivation for recycling natural fiber wastes. In developing regions activities associate with collecting and processing residual fibers provide job opportunities for low-income people. Moreover, if the lignocellulosic fiber is collected as a recyclable waste, it hes the economic advantage of a comparatively cost, which constitutes in a relevant difference as a choice for commercial utilization."

Pile foundation is widely used in construction of marine structures. In offshore & marine piling work, drilling/boring supporting fluid is used to stabilize the borehole (excavation) prior to tremie concrete. The poly-fluid is a synthetic drilling granular polymer characterized by high molecular weight.it is mainly used for the preparation of stabilizing and lubrication mud in drilling of deep foundations. Disposal of polymers after using it into the sea, pollutant the sea environment, which may be harmful for living organisms inside sea. To reduce the pollution in offshore/Onshore, it is essential to take the precautions during flushing operation with proper recycled, reused & it’s Disposal. To provide economic and environmental solutions, used slurry was treated with addition dose of fresh material/polymers. The amount of fresh materials/ Polymer to be added can be decided based on (viscosity, density and pH value) test results. Finally, initiate water flow and air agitation as required. Run the tests on the re generated slurry before transferring to storage tank. Also, after storage, polymers will be reused for next operation. Moreover, mud wastage coming from borehole will also be disposed at suitable dumping places.

The development of newer and improved electrical products has led to an increase in the rate at which older products are discarded as waste. The main focus of electronic waste is the printed circuit board (PCB) because of the inherently high value of contained metals such as gold and copper. Several options for treatment of the non-metallic fraction including material recycling, where the residue may be used as inclusions in concrete or asphalt materials with minimal processing or chemical recycling, where chemicals and fuels are produced from the residue using pyrolysis exist. In this paper, the utilisation of the non-metallic leached PCB waste fraction as reductant in secondary copper smelting was investigated. Analysis of the leached residue revealed that PCB is highly amorphous and has a carbon content of 28.5%, an oxygen content of 23.1%, with the ash and volatile matter contents 40.1% and 44.8% respectively. Thermodynamic simulations of secondary smelting of copper were conducted in terms of metal recovery, and the energy required when PCB was used as a reductant. The results were also compared with that of coal and PCB-coal blends. The simulations revealed that as PCB in the blend used as reductants increases, the amount of energy required for the smelting operation decreases. Metal recovery slightly decreased as the mass percent of PCB in the blend increased due to lower carbon content present in PCB relative to coal. The results also highlighted the energy saving with PCB-coal blends which was around 160 kWh per ton of feed relative to coal. The decrease in the amount of energy required for the operation is attributed to the higher volatile content of the PCB, which is also a part of the reduction process. There is an ever-increasing need for quality construction materials to provide the necessary housing and transportation facilities required for the protection and movement of people and goods. By the year 2000, requirements for housing in the United States will have doubled due to population growth. Requirements for transportation facilities in this same period will also have increased substantially. Further, all existing facilities for both housing and transportation will require substantial maintenance of one form or another. Aggregate is the basic material of the construction industry. There is some occurrence of aggregate source material in virtually every state of the United States, and in every country in the world. United States reserves of commercially useable aggregate have never been systematically estimated and are probably so vast as to be incalculable.1 However, in many areas its existence is largely negated by inaccessibility. Often it is lodged deeply or intricately in the earth or it is too distant from markets to offer a desirable "return on investment" under the present economic structure. Other factors that prevent its utility are the occurrence of small scattered deposits that individually are too small to justify the necessary capital investment for exploitation and collectively are too widely disseminated; also, the aggregate nay be deficient in certain desired chemical or physical qualitites.1

The Arvida Smelter marked its 80th anniversary in 2006. Arvida currently operates 6 potrooms equipped with prebaked side-feeding pots producing 160 000t of aluminum per year, requiring the supply of 300 000t of alumina per year. In the past, to ensure reliable alumina supplies to the pots, especially in winter, a safety stock of alumina was kept inside the plant. The improved reliability of shipping on the Saguenay River has cut the need for such a stock. However, the stoppage of 8 Soderbergtechnology potrooms, starting in the 1980s up to 2003, generated alumina from the cleaning of pot pits, totaling 18000t and leading to the building-up of a significant alumina stock again. Concerns over working conditions, effect on potroom operations, and dust emissions prevented Arvida from tackling effectively this impressive alumina stock. Yet the increasing cost of alumina has created a strong motivation to use the stored alumina. In 2004 Arvida launched a project to recycle the stored alumina. This 4-year project aimed at clearing the alumina stock without affecting the operation of the smelter. It involved changing work organization, improving equipment and controlling the effect of the recycled alumina on the smelting process and working conditions.

The U.S. Bureau of Mines, Tuscaloosa Research Center, is conducting a review of the usage of different types of refractories, the current industrial practices to recycle/dispose of spent refractories, and the concerns associated with these practices. This information will serve as the technical basis for initiating a research program to recycle or find alternate uses for spent refractory materials. Approximately 1.6 million metric tons of clay based and 1.2 million metric tons of non-clay based refractory materials were manufactured in the United States in 1992 alone, representing a value of almost 2 billion dollars. Landfill has been and remains the disposal means of choice. Issues such as environmental regulations, concerns over landfill disposal, future liability, and product stewardship programs have brought about increased emphasis for recycling or alternate material use. Information on refractory consumption and the issues associated with recycling or disposing of used materials will be discussed, including current recycling practices.

The target of the current metallurgical industry is to recycle and utilize all their by-products, so as to close the sustainable production loop. Slags are the important wastes and by-products of metallurgical industry, which have been treated, recycled and used worldwide. The present paper summarizes the current status of utilization of the various slags from ferrous and non-ferrous metal production, as well as waste incineration, and recycling of salt fluxes in secondary metal production. In addition, the environmental issues of the metallurgical slags are addressed. The metallurgical oxide slags have stone-like properties and, thus, their major applications are in civil engineering field. The slags should be recycled, modified and processed in a proper way, by taking the environmental impact into consideration. With the treatment of salt slags for melting aluminium scraps, as an example, the recycling and elution properties of the salt slags are discussed. Our research indicates that the viscosity of the salt flux is increased with addition of non-metallic components, that a certain percentage of fines remain in suspension, which determines the viscosity, affecting the settling of heavier materials. High slag viscosity will lead to more fine aluminium metal entrapped in the salt slag (may also be seen as a high temperature slurry), and thus increase the load of salt slag recycling. "High material prices and price uncertainty can be harmful to manufacturing firms. Increased use of recycled materials, industry-wide, can lower both material prices and price variability; moreover, increased recycling decreases the use of primary material, which mitigates price increases due to scarcity effects. These stabilizing and price lowering effects are explored using an Aluminum industry model. We show that (a) increased recycling leads to smaller price fluctuations in the presence of a primary metal supply perturbation, and (b) that the more substitutable the secondary metal is for the primary metal, the lower the overall material price is.IntroductionThe price of an industrial metal is expected to be a function of both the marginal cost of extraction and its scarcity[l-2]: where scarcity can be defined as the degree to which anticipated demand exceeds the known supply. Recycling end-of-life metal increases the apparent supply of the metal, or-in a functionally equivalent, but alternative conception-lowers the demand for primary metal; this lowers primary metal scarcity and should, theoretically, reduce its price. To the extent that this theoretical prediction holds true, recycling can provide benefits to consumers of industrial metals in the form of lower prices.Using a platinum industry model, prior work by Alonso[3] has shown that increased industrywide recycling can reduce metal price volatility because the secondary metal production (a) offsets virgin metal depletion, and (b) responds to supply-demand balance fluctuations more rapidly than the primary market. However, Platinum is not a typical industrial metal in the sense that secondary metal is perfectly substitutable for primary metal: Both primary and secondary platinum metal are functionally equivalent and have a common price. Other metals, such as secondary aluminum which is used as an example case in this study, contain varying degrees of other elements that were either intentionally added, or were inadvertently mixed in with the metal during the scrap recovery process. Consequently, different grades of scrap exist that have different profiles of elements in their composition. Depending on their particular profile of elements, more or less of a given grade can be used as a mass fraction of the final alloy-the secondary metal is not perfectly substitutable for the primary metal. For the purposes of this paper, the aluminum mass fraction of the final alloy that can be made up of secondary aluminum is termed the secondary substitutability of that grade in that alloy."

The processes and fluxes of a cast iron foundry plant located in the North of Italy were analyzed in order to determine the amount and kind of wastes produced from the different activities. The main fractions are the molding sands, furnace muds and powders coming from the dust abatement plant, the exhaust lime, the furnace refractory, the metallic shotting and the sludges and powders coming from the dust abatement plant of molding lines for a total production equal to 800 t/d. All wastes were sampled and particle-size and chemically characterized to evaluate the best recycling or reuse solutions. Wastes were sieved and divided in three categories according to the particle-size dimensions: below 0.1 mm, between 0.1 and 0.6 mm and above 0.6 mm. The fraction above 0.6 mm dimension underwent magnetic separation to recover and quantify the potentially available iron fraction. The fraction between 0.1 mm and 0.6 mm was chemically characterized in order to understand if it could be fed to the sand regeneration plant. The below 0.1 mm fraction was characterized to evaluate the following recycling and reuse solutions: additive for molding sands and/or raw material for the concrete industry.

Introduction In view of the continuing depletion of natural resources, requirements for energy conservation, plant optimization and hazardous waste management, and environmental consciousness, recycling and secondary recovery of materials are being developed with increasing interest Many secondary recovery processes are being developed that apply mineral processing technology. Gravity separation, magnetic separation and flotation have all emerged as explicit methods for recovering residual values from various process streams and hazardous constituents from waste streams. Recently, a technique for concentrating metallics has been successfully reintroduced. The concept of the alternating magnetic field eddy-current separator was developed over a century ago using rudimentary electromagnets (Patent 400317 issued to Thomas Edison on March 26, 1889). Widespread acceptance was, however, hindered by high costs, marginal results and poor economic incentives for secondary recovery. With the recent increased interest in secondary recovery and the development of high-energy rare earth permanent magnets, the eddy-current separator has now gained prominent acceptance. The separation forces imparted by an eddy current separator are the function of the magnetic field intensity and the alternating frequency of the magnetic field. The evolution of permanent magnets has provided a cost effective alternative for the generation of high-intensity magnetic fields. High-energy rare earth permanent magnets have substantially reduced the capital and operating costs over the electromagnetic circuits employed in antecedent eddy-current separators. Specifically, in recent years, the strength of permanent magnets has increased several fold with neodymium-boron-iron rare earth magnets now providing an energy product of 35 million gauss-oersted. Figure 1 shows the evolution in the strength of permanent magnets. The development of these rare earth magnets has led to the design of circuits possessing a magnetic force an order of magnitude greater than that of conventional permanent magnetic circuits. The eddy-current separator has been successfully applied in several metal sorting and recovery operations. Most common is the sorting of metal from shredded automobile scrap and municipal waste. With the advent of high-frequency, high-intensity magnetic fields, the separator has advanced to the point where it has direct application in the beneficiation of fine sized metals. Relatively fine sized (-1/4 in.) metal bearing slags and spent foundry casting sands as well as precious metal hearing electronic scrap demonstrate excellent metallurgical response to the eddy-current separator, and applications have progressed to finer materials and more selective separations. Theory Electrical currents are induced in all conductors when exposed to an alternating magnetic field. The induced current generates a magnetic field in the conductor that opposes that of the alternating magnetic field. Figure 2, is a schematic illustration of generated eddy currents. In this particular example, the alternating magnetic field is produced by a series of permanent magnets mounted on the circumference of a rotor. The permanent magnets have alternating polarity. As the rotor revolves, an alternating magnetic field is produced, and the rate of revolution determines the frequency of the alternating magnetic field. When a conductor, such as a metallic disc in the illustration, is placed in the alternating magnetic field, a closed loop current flow occurs. The current loop in the conductor produces a magnetic field that is a mirror image of the alternating magnetic field. At any point in time, the induced magnetic field in the conductor directly opposes the alternating magnetic field. This opposition of magnetic fields produces an instantaneous repulsion in the conductor. The conductor is consequently repelled from the rotor. The alternating magnetic field has no effect on nonmetallic materials as they pass through the magnetic field and discharge the rotor in a natural trajectory. [ ]
