Flotation separation is expected to be related to the degree of dispersion of the pulp. For instance, highly aggregated systems may show reduced selectivity, reduced entrainment and increased flotation rate. In an attempt to test the impact of aggregation on flotation, we have taken advantage of the effect of Mg ions. Using combinations of Mg2+ and pH gave a wide variation in aggregation of several Cu-Zn ores (measured by settling rate) and corresponding flotation response was determined by batch tests. The trials were conducted on-site at Louvicourt and Agnico-Eagle. In a majority of cases a similar trend in aggregation and flotation selectivity (grade at given recovery) was observed. At Louvicourt, improved selectivity with increasing aggregation at pH 10.5 was found. At Agnico-Eagle, an analogous association between aggregation and selectivity was observed at pH 11.5. It is suggested that aggregation influences particle entrainment, the increased effective particle size reducing gangue recovery and hence improving selectivity.

During the past six or seven years extensive research has been performed on ore samples procured at the Bruns1,vick Tin Mines which is located in the south-west corner of New Brunswi.ck. This property was originally staked by Mount Pleasant Mines and they did considerable metallurgical and geological work on a small copper, zinc and tin deposit. In 1969, the property was obtained by the Sullivan Mining Group and after much geological and diamond drilling work, an entirely separate ore body \Vas located two miles south of the previous workings. The major economic metals in this ore zone are tungsten, bismuth and molybdenite, but many other metals exist as well. As the ore contains a host of different mineral species, it can be seen that considerable time WRS required to develop a practical flow sheet.

"Anglo Asian Mining’s Gedabek mine is situated in the Lesser Caucasus mountains in Western Azerbaijan. The ore body is a complex copper-gold porphyry deposit, comprising intermixed oxidized, transition and sulphidic gold and copper-bearing ores. Gold in the sulphide ores is generally not refractory and is recoverable by cyanide leaching, but the secondary copper minerals, which are also cyanide soluble, lead to high cyanide consumptions. Ore processing at Gedabek is by agitation leaching for high grade ore (>1g Au/t) and heap leaching for lower grade ore. In order to cope with the high copper concentrations in the cyanide leach liquors, a unique combination of resin-in-pulp for selective gold extraction and SART processing for copper removal and cyanide recovery is used. In 2015, a flotation plant was added to treat the tailings from the agitation leach plant before the tails are sent to the tailings dam. This plant produces a copper sulphide flotation concentrate and also recovers some of the residual gold and silver in the tailings. Since February 2017, due to lower grades of gold and higher copper in the feed ore, the decision was taken to alter the flow sheet and to carry out flotation ahead of agitation leaching, to reduce the cyanide consumption during leaching by removing soluble copper minerals. The paper compares and contrasts the performance of the plant in the two configurations, namely, (i) leaching followed by flotation and (ii) flotation followed by leaching.INTRODUCTION In May 2009, Anglo Asian Mining started open pit mining for gold on its Gedabek property in the Lesser Caucasus Mountains in western Azerbaijan. Gedabek is situated on the highly mineralized Tethyan Belt that runs from the Himalayas to the Balkans. The composition of phosphate rocks, mainly used in manufacturing fertilizers, varies among deposits; therefore, phosphate rocks from different sources are expected to behave differently in acidulation processes. This paper examines the effect of preconcentration of phosphate ore from El-Sebaiya East, Egypt, using flotation on uranium leaching. A high-grade ore sample (27.3% P2O5, 168 mg/kg U) supplied by the Al-Nasr Mining Company, was subjected to reverse single-stage flotation to separate carbonate from the phosphate sample. Subsequently, P2O5 and U concentrations were 32.2% (92.1% recovery) and 225 mg/kg, respectively. After the leach process, the U concentration in the liquor was 319 mg/L.

"Depressed metal prices coupled with increasing production costs have presented a great challenge for operators to control and reduce the costs of production to maintain profitability. Depleting ore reserves, added to the above has forced Outokumpu to take a hard look at its operations, to develop new methods to profitably extend the life of its mines. One of the areas investigated and approved for further development has been the use of larger and more energy efficient equipment. As a result, large flotation machines were developed and today 38 and 60m3 flotation machines are in use.Secondly, ore preconcentration has been developed to avoid processing the part of the ore that has little or no mineral values.Another quite recent development and the topic of this paper, has been the use of coarse flotation before conventional flotation. The main idea is that part of the valuable mineral is separated as early as practical by floating it with specially designed flotation equipment, installed in the grinding classification circuit. The new flotation cell is specially designed for this application and differs from the conventional cells in the tank design, feed arrangement and modified mechanisms in some cases."

"Les Mines Selbaie have been producing copper and zinc concentrates from the A-1 ore zone since 1986. This paper reviews major developments in flotation practice over that period. Firstly, ore blending strategies for Selbaie's non-homogeneous polymetallic ore are discussed. The evolution of reagent use is then reviewed, focussing on copper collector trials. A description of Selbaie's flotation columns follows. The mine produces copper concentrates containing gold and silver as well as zinc concentrates containing silver. 8000 dmt/day of ore is crushed and ground to 80% passing 49 µm, prior to processing by conventional copper/zinc differential flotation. "The flotation behavior of O-isopropyl-N-ethyl thionocarbamate (IPETC) and pH for chalcopyrite and galena was studied through pure mineral test, adsorption quantity determination, solution chemistry calculation and Materials Studio simulation. The results show that the recovery differential value of chalcopyrite and galena is about 20% when pH of the pulp 9.5 and IPETC is 7×10-4 mol/L, the flotability differences of the two minerals is significant. There is competitive adsorption between OH? and IPETC on mineral surfaces, it lead to galena flotability is lower than chalcopyrite flotability. IPETC can remove the hydration layer on mineral surface and adsorb on active sites for collector adsorption, minerals have a better hydrophobicity.INTRODUCTIONCopper and lead are two of the most widely used metals in industrial and living, their applications include building construction, various metal alloys, heat and electricity, machine manufacturing (Zhang et al., 2014). Chalcopyrite and galena are the major source of copper and lead, normally they associated with each other. With the growing use of these resources, high grade and dissemination large particle sizes minerals are less and less, the use of low grade and complex dissemination minerals have to be paid more attention (Chen, Ye, & Li, 2010; Liu, Sun, Hu, & Wang, 2009). As the special properties and complex composition of copper-lead sulfide ore, flotation separation of chalcopyrite from galena effective is a research emphasis and difficulty point in mineral processing (Bruckard, Sparrow, & Woodcock, 2011).In the separation process of chalcopyrite and galena, it is rather important to choose effective collector (Huang, Wang, & Liu, 2014). Enlarging and using the two mineral flotability will be a good basis and start in flotation (Reyes-Bozo et al., 2014). Qin et al. (2013) made a great deal of research on flotation separation of copper/lead concentrate, collector O-isopropyl-N-ethyl thionocarbamate (IPETC), butyl xanthate (BX) and ammonium dibutyl dithiophosphate (ADTP) were investigated, BX and ADTP floated both chalcopyrite and galena well, specific adsorption appeared in the surface of mineral, the problem was the collectors were not selective enough, however IPETC showed better selective."

The basic studies on the surface properties and flotation characteristics of ilmenite were made by electrophoretic, adsorption, contact-angle and floatability measurements. The isoelectric point of ilmenite is found to be at pH 5.6. By combining the results of electrokinetic studies and adsorption measurements, a clearer picture of the ilmenite-solution interface was observed. These findings were correlated with the floatability of ilmenite obtained by Hallimond tube tests. The general flotation characteristics of ilmenite are compared with those obtained for magnetite and rutile. It is indicated that the above three minerals, namely, ilmenite, magnetite and rutile, have very similar surface properties and flotation characteristics. Therefore, it is difficult to make an effective separation of these minerals by flotation. However, it is found that sodium orthophosphate acts as a selective depressant for magnetite in anionic flotation. Therefore, close pH control of the pulp in the presence of the phosphate ion enhances the possibility for a successful separation of these minerals.

"Several plant studies have been conducted at the Zinifex Century Mine over the past 5 years. For each of the plant studies, surveys of the zinc primary circuit were conducted, characterisation measurements for each operating cell taken, and the floatability components of the ore mapped to develop a model of the circuit. The floatability components and machine parameters were then used to simulate changes in circuit configuration and operating conditions, enabling further potential improvements in circuit performance to be identified.This paper reviews the current flotation practice at the mine, as well as various circuit changes and developments implemented by site. The application of the methodology and the evolution of the standard procedure are also discussed.INTRODUCTIONBase metals were first discovered in the Lawn Hill region of Queensland’s North West in 1869 and the first mining lease in this area was pegged in 1887 over what is now known as the Silver King vein deposit. The area encompassing these veins, which includes the Century deposit, was proclaimed the Burketown Mining Field in 1899. Exploration titles were granted to CRA in 1987, precisely 100 years after the initial discovery at Silver King, hence the name ‘Century’.Century was commissioned by Pasminco in late 1999, with the mine becoming fully operational on 1 March 2000 and the official opening taking place in April. Pasminco had bought the Century and Dugald River deposits from CRA in 1997 for A$345 million, and invested some A$710 million in bringing Century into production. Today, Century is the world’s second-largest zinc mine in terms of its output, having reached full capacity in 2003.The Zinifex Century Limited (“ZCL”) lead-zinc-silver deposit is located approximately 250 kms north-north west of Mt Isa in north-western Queensland. The deposit is a large flat-lying ore body covering an area of some 1.2 by 1.4 km, the 45 m-thick stratabound sulphide orebody is hosted within an 850 m-thick sequence of Proterozoic siltstone, shales and sandstone, amenable to open-cut mining methods. The mine has ramped up to full production delivering five and a half million tonnes of ore per annum, yielding approximately 900,000 tonnes of zinc concentrate and 90,000 tonnes of lead concentrate. Mine life is expected to be about 8 years"

"This paper describes the design of a molybdenite flotation circuit using FLEET technology applied to kinetics data produced from laboratory flotation testing and distributed across the blocks of a mine plan using a geostatistical approach. The geostatistics assigned the statistical error that arises from having a limited amount of sample testing data to the kinetics estimates of each block of ore in the mine plan. The final design then included a quantification of risk based on the accuracy of the block flotation kinetics and model fitting. The design made reference to the extensive technical reports describing earlier metallurgical test work including some pilot plant work over thirty years ago.The testing involved conducting MinnovEX Flotation Tests (MFT) to determine the rougher flotation kinetics at the specified reagent conditions and rougher-cleaner tests to determine the change in kinetics resulting from regrind. These flotation kinetics were used within FLEET simulations to create a full-scale flowsheet and plant design including recommended equipment sizes and the forecast of operating results. Measurement of detailed flotation kinetics for a wide range of samples allowed the effect of size of grind and efficiency of classification (i.e. width of size distribution) to be predicted for the whole ore body.INTRODUCTIONAdanac Moly Corp. proposed to develop a 20,000 ton per day mill to produce high quality molybdenite concentrate from its Ruby Creek resource in north-western British Columbia. It is a relatively clean low grade porphyry-monzonite occurrence containing minimal quantities of other sulphides such as chalcopyrite, pyrite, sphalerite and galena. Molybdenite occurs mainly as coarse flakes with lesser amounts of finer sized values. An optimum plant design was required to can achieve the predicted operating results, at a known level of risk, while treating the variability inherent in the ore body."

"A significant development in froth flotation technology has been the emerging industrial acceptance of column flotation during the past few years. Flotation columns are being employed now in several Canadian base metal concentrators and they are being considered f or a wide range of flotation applications throughout North and South America. Since the operating principles of a column differ markedly from those of conventional flotation machines, and have been poorly understood, scale-up of columns has been difficult. This paper describes a methodology f or translating laboratory column data to industrial operation.The scale-up model utilizes kin etic data that is obtained from a series of laboratory column experiments; the laboratory column can be as short as 2 m. For modelling purposes the column is considered to consist of two zones: the collection zone, where particle recovery occurs, and the cleaning zone, a packed bubble bed generated by downward flowing wash water. Mixing conditions in the collection zone have been characterized using the results of tracer experiments on plant columns at Mines Gaspe. The same experiments demonstrated the nearly complete suppression of entrained gangue minerals that is attained in the cleaning zone. The model explicitly accounts for both the collection zone and cleaning zone recoveries and allows for the effects of bubble overloading. Results of column scale-up experiments at Gibraltar Mines are presented."

"I. INTRODUCTIONA significant development in flotation over the past few years has been the increasing industrial use of flotation columns, primarily in Canada. The column differs dramatically from conventional mechanical flotation machines, both in design end operating philosophy, which has been a principal reason for its slow acceptance by the mineral industry. Boutin, Tremblay and Wheeler (1. 2) developed the concept in the early 1960's and since then plant and laboratory columns have been marketed commercially by Column Flotation Company of Canada Ltd. In 1980-81 at Mines Gaspe, Quebec, three columns replaced 13 conventional cleaners in a molybdenum upgrading circuit, with superior results (3). Since then many of the copper producers in British Columbia have installed columns for copper and molybdenum cleaning, including Gibraltar, Lornex, Highmont and Island Copper. There now appears to be widespread interest in flotation columns.The column is particularly attractive for applications involving multiple cleaning stages and can upgrade In a single stage compared with several stages of mechanical cells. This results in simpler, more controllable circuits. Importantly, the column itself is well suited to computer control. A significant problem, however, has been that of translating laboratory data to plant performance. The purposes of this communication are to address the problem of column scale-up and to describe some of the transport mechanisms of a flotation column, leading to a kinetics based model.A schematic of a flotation column is shown in Figure]. Industrial columns are up to 13 m high and 0.3 to 1.8 m in cross section (either square or circular). Three zones can be identified:a collection zone, with feed entering 2 to 3 m below the top of the column and descending against rising bubbles generated at a gas sparger; a washing zone, where a packed bubble bed is generated by a downward flow of wash water; and a conventional froth (2 - 5 cm thick), the sole purpose of which is particle transport to the launder. The tailings withdrawal at the bottom of the column is controlled at a rate slightly greater than the feed flowrate (called a positive bias).An important element is the washwater, added just below the froth zone. The component of the washwater that flows downward (to make up the bias) is sufficient to prevent coalescence of rising gas bubbles. The packed bubble beg so generated is very efficient at suppressing gangue entrainment to the concentrate."

"The Matte Separation plant at Inco's Copper Cliff Smelter Complex is described. The continuing implementation of flotation column technology in the flowsheet in various applications is reviewed. Comparative studies on 0.038, 0.10, 1.1 and 1.8 m diameter columns have been carried out. It was demonstrated that consistent metallurgical performance was obtained with both pilot- and plant-scale units. Grade-recovery relationships for plant columns can be predicted with confidence from data obtained from test equipment. The work indicates further areas of the flowsheet in which columns present an attractive alternative to conventional cells. INCO’s MATTE SEPARATION PROCESSNickel concentrate from Inco’s Sudbury area mills has been processed in the Copper Cliff smelter for sixty years. Prior to that, Sudbury ores had been smelted directly. Historically, copper-nickel separation from smelter converter matte was achieved by the classical Orford process. In the mid-1940s Inco developed an improved separation scheme based on mineral processing methods, the Matte Separation Process. A generalized Copper Cliff Smelter Complex flowsheet is shown in Figure 1.Iron sulfide and gangue contained in the nickel concentrate are rejected in the smelting-converting process. The molten product, typically containing 50% Ni, 25% CU and 22% s, is cast at about 1000 ºC, into floor moulds and allowed to slowly cool for four days. During this period nickel sulfide (heazlewoodite, Ni,S,), copper sulfide (chalcocite, cu,S) and a copper-nickel metallic alloy precipitate and form a coarse grain structure that is amenable to separation by physical means. The phase chemistry of this system has been described previously by Sproule et al (1). This matte then becomes the feed to the Matte Separation Process.A simplified block flowsheet of the Matte Separation Process is shown in Figure 2. Matte ingots, typically weighing 20 tonnes each, are broken and crushed in a three stage crushing plant to approximately minus 0.01 m and conveyed to the Matte Separation building. Grinding is carried out in two parallel circuits each consisting of a rod and ball mill in series producing a flotation feed which is 65% minus 44 microns. Typical throughput of each grinding circuit is 650 tonnes/day. The metallic fraction of the feed is recovered by magnetic separation. This product, containing about 66% Ni and 15% CU, is a major component of the feed to the Copper Cliff Nickel Refinery."

"This paper summarizes research into the study of the control of flotation processes based on froth images. The use of numerical image analysis techniques for the extraction of significant patterns (froth structure and colour) from industrial flotation froths is discussed.First, the froth was analysed by the use of the Multivariate Image Analysis (MIA) method to extract the spectral variation contained in a RBG image. The Partial Least Squares (PLS) was applied to develop the empirical model for the prediction of froth grade. The results of this application are illustrated using one industrial case study.Second, the froth was also analysed by Gray Level Co-occurrence Matrix (GLCM) and Wavelet Transform Analysis (WTA) to extract features related more to morphological aspects. Since there is useful information hidden in froth texture, these methods are used as texture descriptor to classify different types of froths.Third, a control strategy based on a froth structure indicator was developed and implemented on an industrial zinc flotation circuit. The feedback controller uses a reagent flow-rate in order to maintain the froth structure at its set point. Process improvements obtained with the implemented control strategy are highlighted.Finally, the feasibility to implement a hybrid control strategy consisting in a froth structure supervision controller based on the froth concentrate grade estimated by MIA and recovery inferred by image analysis is discussed.INTRODUCTIONThe development of control strategies to achieve satisfactory control performance has always been a great challenge for engineers and the need for improved process diagnosis, control and optimization has become more and more evident for the mineral processing industry in the last decades. That is why new process variables need to be measured particularly in highly multivariable processes such as flotation. This industrial process is subject to a wide variety of disturbances mainly generated by frequent and sometimes abrupt changes in physical and/or chemical ore characteristics and also, due to some irregularities in manual process operating procedures. When producing high grade mattes in smelter plants, copper losses in the slag are inevitable. Hence, the recovery of copper from slag has been the focus of many research projects, copper flotation being a widely used process. In the Khatoonabad converter, 200 t/d of slag are presently produced with a grade of 2.3% Cu. Assuming a 85% recovery by flotation, about 3.9 t/d copper could be produced, which is of prime importance economically. In the present work, a sample of this slag was crushed and ground in the laboratory to liberate the copper-bearing minerals. Following mineralogical studies, optimum laboratory flotation parameters were obtained, resulting in 90.27 % recovery and 9.42% of copper grade for the rougher stage. At pilot scale, a pulp of 28% solids was floated at ph 10.5 using 40 git of Z6, 25 git of R407 and 20 git of MIBC and A65. A recovery of 83.52% was obtained for a concentrate grade of 28.36% Cu. In the rougher cells, the feed consisted of particles 94% finer than 74 microns whereas in the cleaning stage, particles were 95% finer than 44 microns. Based on the obtained results, the Sarcheshmeh Khatoonabad converter slag is presently being fed to the Chargonbad flotation plant, where a concentrate of 32% copper at 86% recovery is being produced.

"This paper presents the latest flotation development testwork conducted in 2015 on the ‘B Zone’ samples from the Strange Lake Alkalic Complex (SLAC). Since the discovery by Iron Ore Company of Canada (IOC), metallurgical development has been under taken by a number of mining companies targeting various value metals, including yttrium, zirconium, niobium, and rare earths.Most recent, Quest Rare Minerals Ltd. (Quest) completed a Pre-Feasibility Study (PFS) in 2013 where the flowsheet was relatively complex and led Quest to explore alternative options. In 2014, the PFS flowsheet was simplified and one of the features introduced was pre-concentration by rougher flotation. The combined rougher flotation concentrate and slimes successfully recovered >90% TREE in 60% mass thus reducing capital cost and technical risks of the downstream hydrometallurgical processes. The latest flotation development testwork focused on achieving a pre-concentrate in which >80% TREE are recovered in 20% mass. Two separate reagent schemes, based on an ester phosphate collector (Clariant 1682) and a benzoylhydroxamic acid collector (Florrea 7510), were developed. Parameters evaluated in the development testwork included desliming, secondary yttrium and zircon collectors, depressants, temperature, conditioning temperature, time, and density, pH, sodium silicate type, cleaning, and flowsheet configuration. Both developed reagent schemes achieved the targeted metallurgy.INTRODUCTIONThe Strange Lake Alkalic Complex (SLAC) was discovered after geological survey and mapping studies by Geological Survey of Canada and Newfoundland and Labrador Department of Natural Resources between 1967 and 1980. Subsequent exploratory drilling programs by Iron Ore Company (IOC) in the 1980s found that the REE and high field strength element (HFSE) mineralization were within the central region of the SLAC which was named A Zone by IOC and later renamed Main Zone by Quest Rare Minerals Ltd. (Quest). Additional exploratory drilling outside the Main Zone by IOC and later by Quest, led to the discovery of B Zone, which was recognized as the most significant deposit of rare earth elements, yttrium, and zirconium in the SLAC. The B Zone Indicated Resources are estimated at 278.13 Mt at 0.93% total rare earth oxide (TREO) and Inferred Mineral Resources are estimated at 214.35 Mt at 0.85% TREO (Oyediran et al., 2014)."

"Laboratory semi-batch flotation tests were conducted using two different sulphide ore samples. The size reduction was adjusted to cover a wide range of flotation feed size distributions. Results show that similar recoveries can be achieved independently of the fineness of grind. This result suggests that possible energy savings could be achieved by a redistribution of the power between the grinding and regrinding mills. The behaviour of the selectivity curves shows that some gangue minerals are more sensitive to particle size than other ones, implying the existence of preferential associations between minerals in the ore.INTRODUCTIONInteractions between grinding and flotation have been studied for many years, and still a robust model to link the two processes lacks to be developed (Girard et al., 2005; Bazin et al., 2001). The ore size reduction liberates mineral grains, while flotation separates them into valuable minerals and gangue. The more size reduction that is applied to the ore the more important is the mineral liberation but also the production of fine particles that can pose problems during flotation (Trahar and Warren, 1976). The definition of the grinding requirement for flotation is a complex problem (Rickelton and Dell, 1977; Sosa Blanca et al., 2000; Morrison, 1993; Wei and Gay, 1999).This paper analyzes the effect of the fineness of grind using semi-batch flotation test results. The first two sections describe the test procedure and the results. The third section analyzes the results in terms of liberation and selectivity, and proposes a possible redistribution of power between grinding and regrinding mills."

"Conventional crushing and grinding is followed by gravity concentration to recover free milling gold. Refractory gold, finely disseminated within the pyrite and arsenopyrite matrix, is recovered by flotation followed by pressure oxidation, cyanidation, and cementation. Non-refractory gold is recovered by cyanidation/CIP processing.A comprehensive test program aimed at improving flotation recovery was initiated in June 1995. Plant testing indicated that flotation tails value could be significantly reduced using mechanical flotation cells. Based on these test results, a flotation circuit that incorporates one of the three existing flotation columns followed by mechanical scavenging and cleaning was developed. Detailed engineering was completed in September 1996. Construction started in February 1997 and was completed in 3 months at a cost of $3.2 million. An on-stream X-ray analyzer was installed to provide real-time arsenic and iron analyses and inferred sulphur value on some of the flotation streams.The new flotation circuit proved to be an instant success. Flotation tails values were reduced by 27%. Final tails solids and solution was reduced from 0.035 to 0 023, and 0.0014 to 0.0006 oz/ton Au, respectively. Based on a mill throughput of 1,620 stpd this decrease in tails value will result in an increased gold production of 7,500 ounces per year. The payback for the project is estimated to be around one year.This paper describes the evolution of the project from bench scale testing to commissioning. Also, the operational and economic impacts on down stream processing are highlighted"

"During the fall of 2001 a program was initiated to determine the feasibility of improving the metallurgy in the flotation circuit at the Penhorwood Talc Concentrator located near Timmins, Ontario. Bench scale testwork led Plant staff to believe that opportunities existed to improve the flotation performance. Pilot scale testing was then conducted using two vendors and their respective cylindrical type flotation cells to indicate where these opportunities existed.The results of the test program determined that the replacement of the existing flotation circuit (roughers, scavengers and cleaners) with new flotation cells could be economically viable. Justification was due to a reduction in installed horsepower, maintenance costs and a subsequent increase in recovery and throughput while maintaining product quality. Unforeseen benefits included reagent and air reduction, accurate level control as well as improved working conditions due to the removal of the antiquated equipment and ancillaries.This paper will detail the justification, installation and implementation of the new flotation circuit. A special emphasis will explain the hurdles encountered while trying to install and commission the circuit in an operating Concentrator with minimal interruptions to production.INTRODUCTIONThe Penhorwood mine and Concentrator is 28 yrs old and has gone through many ups and downs with different owners, Johns Manville, Steetley Talc and now Luzenac. It has also been expanded twice, with flotation and grinding capacity being added in recent years.All of the concentration is completed at the mine site while the fine grinding takes place in the Timmins micronizing plant.Luzenac’s Philosophy is to be the world leader in Talc production, technology and sales, having about 70% of the current world High Grade talc market."

"Over the last 15 years, there has been a number of plant scale sulfide mineral flotation tests organized by this author specifically aimed at understanding how flotation rate varies with reagent type and dosage. With regard to the Interaction of collector dosage, particle size, and frother type, the eight specific trends listed in the paper (Illustrated with data from two specific case studies) are qualitatively the same for almost all plants studied in some depth. The Interaction of flotation rate K and equilibrium (Infinite time) recovery R in the plant has been denoted as the R/K trade-off. The effect of collector dosage on the rate of flotation of specific particle size intervals is particularly interesting and once understood, is quite useful In understanding how industrial flotation plants respond to changing reagent type and dosage. The location and magnitude of the R/K trade-off can be different for various ores and various plant configurations, but the RIK trade-off is almost always present. The purpose of this paper is to clearly describe and illustrate the nature of this very Important flotation system Interaction so that operating engineers have a starting reference point for beginning successful plant Improvement studiesIntroductionIt is well recognized by industrial froth flotation plant operators that improving existing sulfide circuit performance is often difficult due to the self-compensating systems nature of the froth flotation system, e.g. Klimpel (1988, 1989, 1995). Extensive plant testing with existing and new reagents by this author throughout the world has clearly shown that one of the more important self-compensating mechanisms is the Interaction between collector dosage, frother type, and particle size. The term self-compensation in flotation simply means that as the plant operator consistently changes one parameter in the same direction, the nature of the froth flotation system Is such that the circuit will eventually begin to resist this controlled parameter change by automatic (uncontrolled) changes In other parameters and the overall circuit performance will go through a maximum or minimum (hence causing the operator to stop the parameter change)."
