Computer Aided Design (CAD) systems are currently recognized as a necessary tool for the management of projects. Currently, CAD is used for TBM and conveyor setups, concrete lift design and overall constructability reviews. Typically, such CAD models exist only in 2 dimensions. The advent of more powerful computers, enhanced CAD programs and after market animation packages provides tremendous potential to the Tunneling industry. The main technological indicators of copper flotation which determine the level of revenue per mass unit of processed copper are utilization and the content of copper in concentration. This study describes the economic-technological model of copper flotation which can help determine, for the given technological and market conditions, an optimal percentage of copper in concentration, whereby the maximum revenue is achieved per ton of the processed ore in the process of flotation.

Biological destruction of cyanide in mining waters has been demonstrated effective in the lab and in the field. Applied Biosciences Corp.’s ABMet water treatment technology is used in the mining and other industries for the removal of various inorganic contaminants including metals and nitrate. An aerobic ABMet-CN process has shown great promise in efficiently and effectively removing cyanide from even very cold waters. Bench and pilot data will be presented.

Demand for titanium minerals and pigments increased during 1994 as the world economy expanded. Global consumption of titanium dioxide (Ti02) pigment grew an estimated 5% during 1994, the highest growth rate since 1989 (Industrial Minerals, April 1995, pp. 47-53). Demand for titanium mineral ores and concentrates (feedstocks) grew at a similar rate. Increased demand for Ti02 pigment was met through higher production levels. Increased demand for mineral feedstocks was met through drawdowns in inventory levels.

A series of salicylaldoxime derivatives with alkyl group substitution in the main chain and the side chain were synthesized and evaluated for the flotation of malachite, cerussite and smithsonite. The effect of chain length and the position of the substituent group on the selectivity of separation amongst oxidized copper, lead and zinc minerals are discussed in this paper.

The paper deals with the modeling of longwall shearer cutterhead interaction with the coal, in order to study the influence of different limiting factors of the haulage speed, and the cutting regime ensuring optimal energy consumption A computer simulation model is used to draw-up the torque vs haulage speed and the haulage force vs haulage speed dependence diagrams, for different strength of coal and different degrees of bit wear.

Current research into coal based synthetic fuels is taking place on two fronts, fuels for power generation and conversion of coal to ultra-clean fuels for transportation. Present research into solid synthetic fuels is concentrated on development of clean coal technology which will meet or exceed the proposed cap and trade emissions set forth in the Clean Air Act Amendments of 1990. Research into ultra-clean liquid fuels is concentrated on either direct or indirect liquefaction process which could be used to manufacture both diesel fuels and gasoline.
