"Flotation tests were conducted on a mixed copper ore sample containing bornite and malachite with trace quantity of other secondary copper minerals. The bornite component was very floatable, in sharp contrast to poor flotation characteristics of other copper minerals. A Box-Behnken experimental design methodology was used to study effects of three main reagents, namely potassium amyl xanthate (PAX), hydroxamate (Cytec 6494) and diethylenetriamine (DETA). Pine oil, as a frother, was used at a fixed concentration. Three main models constructed using a statistical software included malachite recovery, overall copper recovery, and copper grade. Bornite recovery was not modelled as its recovery was consistently over 99 % in the presence of hydroxamate and PAX. In each model, the hydroxamate dosage was the dominant parameter (at 95% significance level) determining the recovery of main components including that of gangue, which manifested itself by lowering the copper grade of the concentrate. In comparison, PAX was effective only at 90% significance level. DETA did not affect the overall recovery of copper or malachite significantly, but appeared to cause a significant decline in the concentrate grade, especially when used simultaneously with hydroxamate. Various quadratic models developed for the flotation system investigated are presented."

In a flotation froth (and foam), air bubbles become larger due to coalescence, causing bubble size to increase, bubble surface area to decrease, and hence casing less hydrophobic particles to drop off to the pulp phase below. Thus, bubble coarsening provides an important mechanism by which product grades are increased. On the other hand, excessive bubble coarsening results in low recoveries. In the present work, a model describing the process of bubbles becoming coarser in a foam as they rise to the top by deriving a mathematical relation between the Plateau border area, which controls film drainage rate, and the lamella film thickness, which controls bubble-coalescence rate. The model has been derived by assuming that liquid drainage rate increases due to slip at the air/water interface, and that the critical rupture thickness is determined by the capillary waves created by thermal motion. The model developed in the present work can predict the bubble size ratio between the top and bottom of a foam as functions of aeration rate, foam height, and surface tension (frother dosage). The model predictions are in good agreement with the changes in bubble sizes measured using a high-speed camera.

The production of electric and electronic equipment (EEE) is one of the fastest growing areas. This development has resulted in an increase of waste electric and electronic equipment (WEEE). In view of the environmental problems involved in the management of WEEE, many counties and organizations have drafted national legislation to improve the reuse, recycling and other forms of recovery of such wastes so as to reduce disposal. Recycling of WEEE is an important subject not only from the point of waste treatment but also from the recovery of valuable materials. Consumer electronic equipment (brown goods), such as television sets (TV), radio sets, and video recorders, are most common. However, recent work on recycling of waste electric and electronic equipment (WEEE) primarily focused on personal computer and printed circuit boards scraps. Based on a detailed characterization study of consumer electronic scraps, recycling of TV scraps oriented to recovery of metals is highlighted by utilizing air table separation, eddy current separation, and optical (metal) sorting process. The result indicates that a high recovery of copper could be obtained by utilizing an effective gravity separation process. The separation results reveal that air table separation is an effective technology to recover metals from consumer electronic scraps. By using a DGS table, approximately 90% of non-ferrous metals were recovered in the heavy product with a purity of 40%. Printed circuit boards and cables in TV scrap cause metals loss due to the fact that metals in printed circuit boards and cables are not liberated from plastics and ceramic materials. The study shows that eddy current separation and optical (metal) sorting process provide alternatives for recovery of metals from shredded TV scraps.

Hydraulic or teetered bed separators (TBS) are finding new avenues for application in the field of mineral processing. Floatex Density Separator (FDS) is a hydraulic/teetered bed separator capable of operating at high tonnage due to its advanced instrumentation. FDS/TBS is being used in Indian mineral sand industry for classification and segregation of different minerals. The purpose of this paper is to provide details on the performance of the plant scale FDS in recovering the chromite from feed (below 1mm size). Historically this feed has been processed using hydrocyclones and spiral classifiers; however, there is a strong trend now to employ teetered bed separators, thus allowing significant changes to be made in the plant for improving process efficiency. In the present work, the performance of the plant scale FDS is described in terms of partition curve (yield, cut size, classification efficiency/Ep) for different combination of process variables and also in terms of metallurgical grade and recovery. It is found that, efficient classification can be achieved at a maximum cut size of 380 µm with and the imperfection is also reported as low as 0.16. The grade of the underflow product is enriched as maximum as 52.2% Cr2O3 from a feed assaying 40.4% Cr2O3.

"A new PVM vertical ring high-gradient high-intensity permanent magnetic separator authorized by China Invention Patent ZL201110294866.4, which featured with vertical magnetic field structure was developed to dramatically save energy consumption and running costs compared with electromagnetic separators. The specific magnetic circuit design ensures PVM separator generating high magnetic field intensity as well as solving equipment large-scaling. The newly developed industrial PVM separator has been proved suitable for recovery of weak magnetic minerals or purification of non-metallic minerals benefiting from its high background and induction magnetic field intensity up to 0.8/1.5T, stable service performance and low running costs. The first ?1.5mm PVM separator has been applied in removing iron from quartz sand in Fengyang, Anhui, and ?2mm PVM separator will be installed to separate hematite. Industrial applications and tests proved that PVM separators could gain similar separation effects and especially save more than 80% of power consumption compared with the conventional electromagnetic high-gradient high-intensity magnetic separator, which will contribute a lot for energy conservation and environmental protection. The development of high gradient magnetic separator technology has played an important role in utilizing weak magnetic minerals, which has been widely used in many mining enterprises. The main forms of high-gradient magnetic separators include both of electromagnetic high-gradient and permanent magnetic high-gradient. The vertical ring high-gradient high-intensity permanent magnetic separator features with high magnetic field gradient, large processing capacity and never clogging, which has been widely used in recovering fine weak magnetic mineral and purification of non-metallic minerals[1-3]. However, electromagnetic coils excitation needs more energy consumption, and relatively high running costs and maintenance costs as a result of the complicated cooling system. So permanent magnetization of the electromagnetic magnetic separation equipment is a very important research direction at present. With the continuous improvement of resource utilization standard and efficiency requirements, high energy consumption of the electromagnetic vertical ring magnetic separator have been highlighted, which has affected the economic benefits of mining enterprises to a certain extent. In the aspect of high-gradient high-intensity permanent magnetic separation equipment, considerable researches have been carried out at home and abroad and many small-sized prototypes were developed yet never strode into large-scale industry applications[4-6]."

Currently, recycling technologies use relatively homogeneous plastics because hand-sorting waste feed is too expensive. Many promising technologies for separating mixed thermoplastics are being investigated, but they are still uneconomical and unreliable. Burning plastics for recycling is not used because of poisonous gases released when their burning. PET and PVC cannot be separated using conventional gravity separation techniques because their specific gravities overlap; PET density changes from 1.33 g/cc to 1.37 g/cc and PVC density is between 1.32 g/cc and 1.37 g/cc. For this reason, plastic recycling needs new techniques. Among these techniques froth flotation, also used in mineral processing, can be useful for its cost and simplicity. In this method, a plastic is selected from mixture, tried to regain its natural property, hydrophobicity. In this study the experiments were applied by using plasticizer reagents to make the selected plastics hydrophobic and us-ing NaOH to render the other hydrophilic. Post-consumed PET and PVC are evaluated by concerning the effects of selected parameters (particle size, concentration of plasticizer reagent, amount of NaOH, conditioning time and the effect of conditioning temperature). At the end of the experiments, optimum parameters for selective flotation of PET from PVC was found as particle size of -4.76 + 3.36 mm, NaOH amount of 30 kg/t, conditioning temperature of 75°C, conditioning time of 30 minutes, reagent amount of 300 mg/L. Consequently, PET was re-covered with 99.7% purity and 57% efficiency.

In the present work an attempt has been made to study beneficiation of low-grade iron ore associated with manganese clay by selective flocculation. The representative samples obtained for this purpose were initially subjected to chemical and mineralogical studies. The chemical analyses indicated 42.56 % Fe, 6.25% Mn, 8.72 % SiO2 and 13.60 % Al2O3 in the representative sample. The mineralogical analyses carried out under optical microscope showed that the ore mineral predominantly comprised of iron oxides and hydroxides along with manganese and silicate as gangue minerals. Prior to the beneficiation studies, the samples were subjected to settling tests. These tests were carried out by using poly acrylic acid (paa), poly acryl amide (pam) and guar gum (gg) as the flocculants. From these studies it was observed that settling rate of particles increases with increase in pH and a maximum settling rate of 0.23 cm/secwas obtained at pH 9 in presence of poly acryl amide. Further, the samples were subjected to selective flocculation studies using above-mentioned reagents. From these studies better results were obtained in the experiments carried out with poly acryl amide as the flocculant. Thus, it was possible to upgrade the iron content from 42.5 to 53%, with a recovery of 92%. However, 51% Fe with recovery of 87% and 50% Fe with recovery of 94 % was obtained using poly acrylic acid and guar gum respectively.

The observed progress in technology of non-ferrous ores enrichment and condition of machines and equipment in the ores concentrators on the one hand have brought a possibility and on the other resulted in necessity for introduction of modernization actions. Positive results of investigations into influence of chemical modification of selected products of enrichment process on copper ores enrichment results gave possibility for implementation of chemical-flotation technologies of ores enrichment. The substantial development in flotation machines structure has contributed to modernization of flotation process resulting in increase of enrichment efficiency. The paper presents the idea and results of chemical modification of difficult in enrichment semi-products in the technology of copper ores enrichment and the results obtained after application of the modernised technology. The structure of large-volume flotation machines used in various stages of flotation and current situation in modernization of flotation process in copper ores concentrators are also described. The paper presents industrial-scale results of flotation after application of modified flotation reagents of collector group. Introduction of modifiers into the widely used xanthates resulted in increase of copper recovery in concentrate.

Principles of ecologically friendly geo-technologies construction are formulated on the basis of the works of the leading scientists in the field of rational processing of mineral resources of the Russian Academy of Sciences. One of these concepts is a new direction in rotational disintegration of mineral and technogenic raw material with the purpose of effective subsequent enrichment. A large amount of practical experience has been accumulated in the industry on selective destruction by application of vibrational method on initial material with consideration of its physical-mechanical properties and mineral structure. This method is successfully realised in a conic inertial pulverisation devices constructed by Mekhanobr Institute (St. Petersburg). A new construction of conical-inertial pulverisation with a modification of disintegration force has been developed recently at Mekhanobr Institute. It allows, in some cases, to increase selectivity of subdivision and to avoid over-disintegration. Advantages of “wet” subdivision methods in conic inertial disintegration devices are proved. The efficiency of such subdivision can be increased due to rational use of the phenomenon of a dislocation-dynamic diffusion. Its advantage is proved by the effect on disintegrated material by frequency-modulated variable electrical fields of low power. It was shown in industrial conditions, that the productivity of the spherical mill can be increased by 10 %, and that it also prevents ecologically harmful surface active substances (SAS) in milling zone and it reduces the dust content in the air. The techniques of tentative estimation of efficiency of various proceedings technogenic materials and their classification are created. The scientific fundaments of rational, ecologically friendly technology of processing and regeneration of various kinds of technogenic raw material are developed. A number of effective technologies on processing of wastes is developed and inculcated in concentration factories and metallurgical factories.

"Nickel sulphide ores subjected to this investigation were taken from Orhaneli district where widespread chromite mineralisation can be occurred. Significant amounts of magnetite and chromite have been existed in the ore together with sulphide and oxide type nickel minerals. Ore sample is constituted about 70% magnetite, 15% sulphide minerals, 5% chromite and iron oxides as well as 10% gangue minerals.According to the chemical analysis results, the representative ore sample contains 1.32% Ni, 10.8% SiO2, 78.4% Fe2O3, 1.3 g/t Ag and 1.0 g/t Au. Mineralogical examinations showed that pentlandite (Fe, Ni)9S8, violarite (Ni, Fe)3S4, millerite NiS and asbolane (Co, Ni)MnO2.(OH)2.1-2H2O were the main nickel minerals and magnetite, chromite, chromium spinals, pyrite, pyrhotite, chalcopyrite, cubanite, goethite, hematite, limonite, rutile, chlorite, talc and serpentine group minerals as associated minerals.The aim of this investigation was to produce valuable nickel concentrates by using gravity separation, magnetic separation and flotation methods. As a results of laboratory scale studies, alternative flow sheets for the production of nickel sulphide concentrate were developed. The related experimental results are given in Table 1."

"Presently, there is a number of gold deposits which cannot be developed using the conventional technologies with acceptable economic indices due to low gold content, high depth of ore occurence and other conditions. For such ores, an innovation technology of underground gold leaching in the place of their occurrence is of special interest. The technology excludes ore mining and hoisting to the surface. This enables the production cost of 1 g of gold to be considerably reduced in comparison with conventional methods of gold recovery.The Maminskoye deposit oxidized ores were chosen as the subject of underground leaching because they are ideally suited for this purpose due to their composition and hydrological parameters. The ore reserves within the underground leaching block are 90, 000 t with 0.7 g/t average gold grade.An experimental system for underground leaching with a throughput of 15 cubic m solutions per hour was developed. A combined filtration-and-infiltration system of the ore massif development by holedrillingwhere pregnant solutions are air-lifted was worked out.The underground leaching flowsheet includes Au dissolution by chlorine-containing solutions, Au adsorption from solution onto active carbon, carbon concentrate ashing and calcine melting to produce Dore metal."

The recovery of valuable materials from electronic waste is of growing importance for the re-source management not only in the industrialized nations. Being a significant step in an innovative automated process for recycling of metals and plastics from used electric and electronic equipment, the results of the work introduced below, prove the applicability of microbial leaching of metals from printed circuit boards (PCBs) at industrial scale. Within the first project step, which started in March 2005, experiments in shaking flasks with a mixed culture of chemolitotrophic bacteria (mainly Acidithiobacillus ferrooxidans and Leptospirillum ferrooxidans) were carried out to study the solubilization of non-ferrous metals present in the electronic waste. It was found that the best results were achieved by means of a two-stage process in which leaching of these metals was carried out by acidified ferric sulphate solutions generated as a result of the prior bacterial oxidation of ferrous ions to the ferric state. Special reactor systems for bacterial generation of such solutions and for the subsequent leaching of non-ferrous metals from the waste were developed, constructed and tested under laboratory and pilot scale conditions. The optimum technological parameters such as concentration of iron ions, pH-value, temperature and presence of nutrients were established for both reactor systems. Parameters such as particle size, pulp density and flow rate of the suspensions being leached were established for the leaching process carried out under continuous-flow conditions. The complex flow sheet reflects a highly efficient technology on the basis of metal recovery, environmental effect and economical acceptance. The process was successfully implemented into an industrial demonstration unit.

Water for domestic consumption is an essential right of society, which must be over secured. Water reclamation and reuse provides a unique and viable opportunity to augment traditional water supplies. As a multi-discipline and important element of water resource development and management, water reuse can help to close the loop between water supply and wastewater disposal. Effective water reuse requires integration of water and reclaimed water supply functions. During the coal mining activities, large quantities of water get contaminated and loses its potability characteristics. On an average, in coal mine operation, each coal mine discharges effluents at a rate of nearly 0.5 MGD and thereby wastage of nearly 50 MGD of water takes place per day from the famous Jharia Coal Field of the Dhanbad District. In this paper, attempt has been made to control the extremely high turbidity of mine waste water by using different coagulants and it is observed that ferrous sulphate is the most effective coagulants followed by alum, ferric sulphate and lime. Also combinations of coagulants are used for getting the optimal results. Further steps were also discussed to make this water potable and a scheme of low cost water supply system of mine waste water has been suggested under the Water Management Strategies. Many technical processes also yield dusty residues which usually contain appreciable amounts of valuable matter. Often they also accumulate substances detrimental to the process. Dumping them entirely in landfills wastes raw material and causes high disposal costs, but recycling them without prior treatment is often not feasible. Physical separation processes are preferable because of their rather low energy demand. In order to develop such treatment systematically, the residues must be characterized properly. The technique for such a characterization is taken from mineral processing: perfect fractionation according to continuous properties of the particles supplemented with chemical analysis are used for plotting the Henry-Reinhardt chart. This represents the benchmark for assessing actual separation processes and tests. Their results are compared in terms of ?selectivity? and plotted in the kappa chart. In this paper, Henry-Reinhardt chart and kappa chart are applied to several different types of residues from iron and steel production and show their potential for being upgraded before reutilization in the production process. The present paper is about the restoration of the molybdenum production in the floatation plant of Ellatzite-Med AD in Bulgaria. The process, based on a working design, includes the construction of a new floatation molybdenum section in the existing molybdenum department of the Floatation Plant using the so called Vemco inert-gas floatation machines, made especially for the molybdenum floatation. While in the ordinary floatation machines, block impellers create suspension of the air, sucked from the atmosphere with the slime particles of the concentrate, which creates conditions for oxidizing the reagent, Vemco inert-gas floatation machines are covered with hermetic lids and the air inside the chamber is used. The technology, suggested by Geotechkoper Ltd. for making the working project, employs special machines from Dor Olliver Aimco, suitable specifically for molybdenum floatation in order to reduce the oxidizing of the reagent sodium hydrosulphate. Also the transport of the chamber product is done in hermetic conditions as the molybdenum flotation is done in two floatation rows and refining operations 3 to 8 are placed in the second row. Thus in the basic molybdenum floatation together with the first and second refining operations, which are hermetically closed, an ambient condition with low content of oxygen is created, that is about 8% for oxygen and about 92% of nitrogen, in which the oxidizing process is extremely reduced. This in turn results in reducing the consumption of the reagent depressor ? sodium hydrosulphate. In that way there is an improvement of the economical indices of the molybdenum production.

This paper presents a new process for producing industrial magnesium sulphate using waste water from titanium white plant and magnesium oxide from calcinations of magnesite ore as raw materials. With the laboratory experimental equipment, the waste liquid and magnesium dioxide react effectively at ambient temperature and under atmosphere pressure. Via the press filter, a clear liquid predominately containing magnesium sulphate is obtained. It is further evaporated and crystallized by cooling, separated by centrifuge and dried. Consequently a high quality of industrial magnesium sulphate is achieved as the final product. In the course of process, as the majority of valuable component (SO42-) is recovered in the final product, most of impurities from waste acid is being removed into the by- product. With the simple operational process, it is possible for titanium dioxide plant to resolve the environmental problem completely and benefit from the industrial magnesium sulphate product as well. The filter cakes containing valuable elements such as Mg, S, Fe, Mn, V, Ti are by-product proposed to be used for manufacture of agriculture fertilizer particularly for peanut planting.

"In order to get a more comprehensive understanding of the interaction of fine fluorite particles and bubbles, the electro-flotation was conducted, a high speed CCD was used to determine the bubble size distribution, and the results were analyzed using the models of collision and attachment. The electro-flotation was performed in a modified Hallimond tube. The results show that for different fluorite with size of 0 -10µm, 10 -38µm, 38-74um, there is a matching range between the different particle sizes and cathode aperture size (38um, 38um, 74um) to reach highest recovery. In addition, improving the concentration of collector is benefit for the flotation recovery due to the ability of collector to decrease the bubble size and prevent the merger of bubbles. Furthermore, theoretical calculation of collision, adhesion probability and collection probability is in agreement with the experimental data for electro-flotation recovery of fluorite.INTRODUCTIONFluorite is widely distributed, and has been found in more than 40 countries around the world. As fluorite minerals are easy to float, flotation is used as the best method of the current recovery of fluorite (Yang and Ai, 2016; Chen et al., 2017). In the field of mineral processing, the flotation of fine particles is particularly difficult, caused by the small quality and large surface (Sun et al., 2006). Flotation is now considered to contain three subprocesses, including the collision, attachment and detachment between the particles and bubbles (Sun et al., 2011). The collision of particles with bubbles is related to factors such as particle size and density, bubble size, bubble rise rate (Qin et al., 2012). Zongfu Dai et al. (2000) summarized the particle-bubble collisions models in detail and compared the experiment results with the model predictions. However, particle-bubble interactions occur in complex and turbulent flotation environments (Xing et al., 2017). Both thermodynamics and dynamic factors affect the adhesion of particles on bubbles surface (Schulze, 1989; Shahbazi et al., 2010). Scheludko et al. (1976) believes that the necessary condition for successful adhesion of particles on bubbles is that the contact time is greater than the induction time. The probability of adhesion between particles and bubbles increases with the increase of bubble size, but if the particle size is too small, the probability of adhesion decreases instead (Ren, et al. 2014; Norori- McCormac et al., 2017). After the particles adhere to the bubble surface, the particles will slide down to the bottom of the bubble due to gravity. At this point, the gravity, inertial centrifugal force and fluid force promote the desorption of particles from the bubble surface, while the surface tension, surface hydrophobic force maintain the stability of particles-bubble combination (Ralston et al.,2017). In addition, in the process of rising to the foam layer, desorption can also occurs. The purpose of this study is to observe the flotation behavior of fine fluorite with different size and to get a more comprehensive understanding of the interaction of fine fluorite particles and bubbles."

Today, sodium cyanide is extensively used for extracting gold, however it is highly toxic to the environment if not managed properly. This paper discusses the key challenges presented to gold operations in efforts to come into alignment with the Russian environmental regulations and suggests solutions to overcome these challenges. It is a fact that the major environmental threat cyanide poses to water sources. Therefore, natural water sources should be well protected from the adverse effect of cyanides used in hydrometallurgical processes. For this, the following site procedures and facilities are practiced: in-site and external water recycling systems, reclaim water treatment if required and tailings ponds with water impermeable screens (tailings ponds with controlled leakage). Cost comparison analysis of cyanide destruction methods was carried out. It was revealed that the aldehyde treatment method developed by Irgiredmet JSC demonstrated the best economics. Cyanide emissions are treated by mass-manufactured packed and membrane devices which allow to keep cyanides at the acceptable limiting values established by environmental regulatory agencies.

"Chelopech concentrator (part of Dundee Precious Metals) is located in central-western Bulgaria. The current process plant utilizes conventional primary crushing and SAG mill grinding, copper and pyrite rougher and cleaner flotation stages to produce a marketable gold-rich copper and pyrite concentrates. As in the most processing plants, the pyrite depression is carried out alkaline media using lime. The subsequent activation of pyrite mineral is achieved by adding sulfuric acid, which has an adverse effect on the flotation equipment. Therefore, a series of laboratory flotation experiment for activation of lime depressed pyrite by ammonium salts, such as ammonium chloride (NH4Cl), ammonium sulfate (NH4)2SO4 and ammonium bicarbonate (NH4HCO3), have been conducted. The obtained results showed that ammonium bicarbonate proved to be the most appropriate reagent choice for pyrite mineral activation. These results are confirmed by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), performed to determine the surface chemistry of pyrite in its natural state, after lime treatment and subsequent treatment by NH4HCO3. The registered XPS spectra indicate that the hydrophilic phases on the pyrite surface could be efficiently removed by using the ammonium salt NH4HCO3. The industrial use of NH4HCO3 as an activator of lime-depressed pyrite is a possible alternative for sulfuric acid replacement as a most widely used pyrite activator. Flotation experiments with addition of 200, 400, 600 and 800 g/t from each of the studied ammonium salts have been conducted. The heap leaching of oxide copper ores with copper cathode recovery by solvent extraction and electrowinning is now well established as a low-cost method of copper recovery. The main purpose of this study was to extract copper from the copper low-grade oxide ore of Chodarchaei mine using column leaching. The copper oxide ore contained 1.1% Cu and 1.75% Fe. The mineralogical analysis indicated the malachite (Cu2(OH)2CO3) was mainly composed of oxidized phases. The sulfuric acid leaching experiments were performed under the laboratory conditions. The influence of several parameters on the course of the reaction such as particle size, acid concentration, flow rate, and time was examined. The optimum collective extraction of copper and iron was obtained at a particle size of +10-15 mm for a leaching duration of 3 days with sulfuric acid concentration of 100 gpl and using a flow rate of 2.5 cc/min. Under these conditions, the recovery of copper and iron were 98.54% and 41.99%, respectively. Keywords: column leaching, copper, iron, working diagram.
