Based on the belief that operating details are a definite contributing factor to major economies, this paper traces the development of crushing cavity design in Symons cone crushers to attain maximum liner utilization. Wear rates are analyzed and compared in this presentation and drawings illustrate succeeding design changes.

The data we need most in connection with the brasses are the vapor tension of the zinc from the brasses at different temperatures, the heat of combination of zinc With copper to form different kinds of brasses, and the latent heat of fusion of these brasses at the melting temperature.

After an absence of over two years, the writer returned to Leadville in March, 1890. The change which had taken place in the conditions of smelting during so short a time seemed almost incredible. CHURN drilling equipment at Bagdad consists of two Bucyrus Erie 27-T model drills and one 22-T drill with gasoline engines. The drilling tools weigh approximately 1600 lb. The holes are drilled with 7-in. bits which are heated in an oil burning furnace and sharpened in an electrically powered bit sharpener. A service truck brings the bits to the drills and takes the dull bits back to the shop. The bits weigh around 250 lb. when new and are handled by drill crews without any mechanical handling device.

IT just so happens that we do our best thinking while painting wood- work and last Saturday while finishing up the screens (the bugs come late where we live) the paint very nearly ran out. By adding turpentine, it just stretched. It was pretty thin for the job though, which made us think that that is just about what the situation is going to be in the mining industry if something isn't done to increase the number of enrollments in engineering curricula. Engineers are going to be spread too thin for the job at hand.

For the first time in four years the number of mineral engineering students in the 228 engineering colleges of the U. S. and Canada exceeds 10,000. According to figures just released by the American Society for Engineering Education, the current enrollment of all engineering students is 222,178. The total of 10,274 mineral engineering students, undergraduate and graduate, is a 4% pct increase over a year ago. Total engineering is 11 pct larger than last year, about the same as in 1949-50, and 24 pct above 1950-51.

The general practice in drill sharpening shops, of which descriptions have been written, is about as follows: The bit is heated to 1600" to 1900°F. Then when forged to the proper shape and size in the sharpening machine, the steel is allowed to cool; it is then passed to a hardening furnace where only the end is heated to about 1450" F., and then quenched in cold water, brine, or in brine with oil on top.
