In accordance with the provision of the Constitution, notice is here given to all Members, Associates, and Junior Members, that the clues of the year 1918 will be payable on Jan. 1. 191.8, at the office of the Secretary. The dues for Members and Associates are $12 per year and the sum of 83 additional is asked of those Members and Associates who desire to have the three volumes bound in the Institute's standard half morocco binding. The dues of Junior Members are $5 per year.

On Saturday evening, Sept. 27, immediately following the Chicago meeting of the Institute, the former students of Dr. T. C. Chamberlain, for 27 years head of the Department of Geology at the University of Chicago, will hold a dinner in his honor. Dr. Chamberlain has recently retired with the title of Professor Emeritus, and expects to celebrate his 76th birthday in September. Further information concerning the dinner may be obtained from Kirtley F. Mather, Granville, Ohio.

The report of the Nominating Committee was presented and is given in this same Bulletin. A petition was received for new requirements for membership in the Institute and was ordered to take the statutory course. A petition was received for the establishment of a Tulsa Section of the Institute and was referred to a committee to report on the territory. Thirty-six Members, two Associates, and two Junior Members were elected. The status of two Junior Members was changed to Member.

At the MBD Business Meeting held on March 1, 1971, the General Committee of the MBD Division voted unanimously to change the name and expand the role of the Fluo-Solids Separation Committee. The new committee is called the Environmental Control Committee. Such action was taken because of the importance of environmental control and the need for a more active role in this area by our Division.

Mr. Edward Caldwell was appointed as expert advisor. on printing. The report of the Committee on Printing advising certain changes in methods of printing. was accepted.

Footnotes to column heads and explanation of symbols are given on page 239. H.C.T. means the deep zone for High Cold Test crude oil. L.C.T. means the shallow zone for Low Cold Test crude oil. They occur in the same area. In the same area there are many shallow pits and some wells. In the column showing total oil production to the end of 1939 are included 355,997 bbl. from shallow pits before 1939. During the last year there was no production from shallow pita.

AN X-ray diffraction pattern for "calcined cold precipitated ferric oxide" is reproduced diagrammatically along with data for other iron oxides by R. C. Mackenzie.1 This pattern, which shows spacings higher than those for any other form of iron oxide, was obtained from material prepared and photographed at several different times over a period of weeks, but later attempts to reproduce the results were unsuccessful the pattern of hematite being obtained every time.2

US Bureau of Mines efforts under longwall research programs to develop the capability to predict support requirements for longwall/shortwall support systems are discussed. Ground control studies are being conducted in conjunction with several longwall/shortwall demonstration projects. Geologic, support performance, and strata behavior are being documented on these projects. A hypothesis is presented for the prediction of support requirements.

The correct title is "Belt Series in Lincoln and Southwest Flathead Counties, Montana." In the same paper, reference 12 on page 191, the publication is Bulletin 12, Montana Bureau of Mines and Geology, rather than Bulletin 17.
