We are glad to print the following letter from Herbert C. Hoover, who has recently been appointed Food Administrator, by President Wilson. Mr. Hoover has a tremendous task before him, and we are sure that mining engineers will give him their hearty support by responding to his appeal to stop the waste of food.

Those in charge of the Second Pan-American Financial Conference say that the engineering profession will be well represented at the Janu-ary conference in Washington. Latin American engineers are more closely connected with important industrial projects and have a greater command in matters pertaining to the developments on which they are working than is the case in the United States. Our own engineering profession may. therefore do well to study the Latin-American plan of cooperation between capital and the engineers.
