Estos sistemas contienen un equipo de extracción y dilución del relave antiguo, equipo de bombeo, estación de tratamiento para los relaves antiguos, el equipo de almacenamiento y dosaje y equipo de bombeo. Las variantes de los dos sistemas son: equipos, densidades del relave y volumen de agua. De forma que la cantidad de agua recuperada de los relaves de flotación es suficiente para operar el circuito con cualesquiera de los sistemas propuestos. "

The pressure drop in a well per unit rate of flow is conrolled by the resistance of the formation, the viscosity of the fluid. and the additional resistance concentrated around the well bore resulting from the drilling and completion technique employed and, perhaps, from the production practices used. The pressure drop caused by this additional resistance is defined in this paper as the skin effect. denoted by the symbol S. This skin effect considerably detracts from a well's capacity to produce. Methods are given to determine quantitatively (a) the value of S, (b) the final build-up pressure, and (c) the product of average permeability times the thickness of the producing formation. INTRODUCTION Equations which relate the pressure in a well producing from a homogeneous formation with pressures existing at various distances around the well are generally used within the industry. The relation ii quite simple when the fluid flowing is assumed to be incompressible. It becomes somewhat more complicated when the flowing fluid is considered compressible so that the duration of the flow can he considered. In each case the major portion of the pressure drop occurs close to the well bore. However analyses of pressure build-up curves indicate that the pressure drop in the vicinity of the well bore is greater than that computed from these equations using the known, physical characteristics of the formation and the fluids. In order to explain there excessive drops it is necessary to assume that permeability of the formation at and near the well bore is substantially reduced as a result of drilling. completion and, perhaps. production practice. This possibility has been recognized in the literature. A method to compute the pressure drop due to a reduction of the permeability of the formation near the well bore. which is designated as the skin effect. S, is given in the following paragraphs. To start, equations normally used to describe flow in the vicinity of a well are given without considering this effect. These equations then are modified to include the effect of a skin on the pressure behavior. Finally a method is given to estimate the effect of the skin on the pressure and production behavior of a well. PRESSURE EQUATIONS Incompressible Fluid Flow If p is defined as the flowing pressure in a well of radius the pressure at distance r from the well has been shown to be:" The total pressure drop between the drainage boundary, and the well bore is given by These equations are valid only if the flow towards the well occurs in a horizontal homogeneous medium and the fluids are incompressible. The assumptions imply that all fluid taken from the well enters the system at r a condition rarely encountered in practice. Compressible Fluid Flow, Steady State A more realistic equation is obtained if it is assumed that the compressibility, c, of the flowing fluids is small and has a constant value over the pressure range encountered. After the well has been producing for some time so that its rate has become constant and steady state is reached, the pressures throughout the drainage area are falling by the same amount per unit of time, and the pressure differences between a point in the drainage area and the well are constant. When these conditions are met. the rate of production, q, from a well is equal to where dp/dt is the pressure drop per unit time. Owing to the deterioration of iron ore, the Al2O3 concentration in iron ore increases, and thus it is important to investigate the effect of increment in Al2O3 concentration on the microstructures of iron ore sinters. During the sintering process, a melt is present in the sinter for only a few minutes, and therefore the microstructure of the sinter doesn’t reach thermodynamic equilibrium. Nevertheless, the formation process of the microstructures can be interpreted and predicted to some extent from the equilibrium phase diagram. This study investigated the liquidus isotherm in the CaO-SiO2-Fe2O3- 5 mass% Al2O3 system at 1240°C in air and the phase equilibria of silico-ferrite of calcium and aluminium (denoted by SFCA) and SFCA-I by XRD (X-ray diffraction analysis) and electron probe micro analyzer (EPMA). The following results were obtained: 1. The ferrite melt region with a high Fe2O3 concentration shifts to the lower Fe2O3 side than the liquidus isotherm in the CaO-SiO2-Fe2O3 system. 2. The compositional region of SFCA extends in the CaOꞏ3Fe2O3-4CaOꞏ3SiO2 direction than the silico-ferrite of calcium (denoted by SFC) composition region with a 0 mass% Al2O3. 3. SFCA-I is observed in the present system, which suggests that the increment in the Al2O3 concentration contributes to the stability of SFCA-I. These results imply that an increment in Al2O3 concentration in iron ore leads to a decrement in the volume fraction of the bonding phase and that the fraction of the SFCA phase increases, and those of 2CaOꞏSiO2 and slag phases decrease in the bonging phase. The SFCA-I phase is also precipitated from the slag with an Al2O3 concentration around 5 mass%.

Considering the two most important issues the ironmaking industry faces today, i.e., energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions, it would be advantageous to utilize the concentrate-size raw materials directly without pelletizing or sintering, especially without the use of coke. This plenary lecture describes two such processes developed at the University of Utah. One is the Flash Ironmaking Technology (FIT) and the other is a moving-bed process for continuous ironmaking with gaseous reduction of iron ore concentrate (MBIT). These technologies are designed to produce iron directly from iron concentrate without requiring pelletization/sintering and cokemaking in two significantly different temperature ranges. They take advantage of the high reactivity of the concentrate particles and will considerably reduce energy consumption and carbon dioxide emissions compared with the current processes. The process of the development from the conception of the idea, to kinetic feasibility establishment, to laboratory flash furnace, and finally to the operation of a prototype facility for the development of the FIT is discussed. The development of the MBIT also started with the formulation of the process concept, followed by kinetics feasibility establishment, and the design of a potential industrial reactor. The results of economic analyses on the FIT are briefly described.

THE Geology Department of the University of British Columbia has undertaken the task of examining the ores from as many as possible of the gold mines of British Columbia. The object of this work is two- fold. First, it is known that detailed mineralographic studies are useful in attacking ore-dressing problems, and these studies are intended to be helpful to mill operators. Second, it is hoped that mineralogical and mineralographical studies will prove useful adjuncts to those of lithology and structure in throwing more light on problems related to the origin of the deposits. The paper shows that gold, for all practical purposes, is not present in an ore mineral in solid solution nor as a eutectic with any mineral; if the latter were true the gold particles would be distributed equally throughout that mineral. The gold occurs either as native gold or as a gold-silver telluride and is not distributed regularly through any mineral or minerals. The relationship between the gold or gold-bearing telluride and the associated minerals affords a means of classification that is not only simple but also appears to be directly related to the geological nature of the deposit, which may be summarized as follows: 1. Disseminated Gold Type.-Precious minerals in extremely small grains, which are distributed without regard to grain size, fractures or grain boundaries: (1) Hedley variety-gold in native form; (2) Surf Point variety-gold predominantly as telluride. 2. Veining Gold Type.-Precious minerals in grains of various sizes, which occur mainly along fractures and grain boundaries: (1) Cariboo gold quartz-goldin native form. (2) Waneta variety-gold as telluride. Contact with trolley wire in the mines of the United States has taken a considerable toll of life throughout the years that trolley locomotives have been employed as a means of' transportation. A study3/ of the records over a 15-year period for one State alone showed that, of 98 fatalities resulting from contacts with electrical circuits and equipment, 75 were caused by direct or indirect contact with unguarded trolley wire in coal mines. The law relating to guarding trolley wires in the mines of this particular State, as amended in 1935, reads in part as follows: "All trolley wires carrying 220 volts or more, and less than six feet six inches above top of rail, must be guarded at all points under which men and animals are required to pass***,'" The natural conclusion to be drawn from such records is that lack' of guards or shields must be held responsible for these fatalities. As a preventive measure, it has been advocated that every foot of trolley wire in mines should be guarded. Although some such drastic steps may appear to be amply justified, closer examination of the records nor this and other coal-mining States shows that absence of guards is not entirely responsible; but rather that other factors, such as carelessness and neglect it the observance of certain well-established simple rules concerning installation and location of trolley wires, also are responsible. In other words, if trolley wire is installed carelessly and its maintenance is neglected, it should not be expected that the mere installation of guards will overcome such carelessness and neglect. This publication discusses Various types of guards that have been used in Coal and metal mines of this country, together with related steps bearing upon the problem of 'preventing shock and fatalities from contacts with trolley wire. The material herein contained is taken largely from Information Circular 6577,4/ now out of print, and has been revised to include some types of guards that have been used in metal mines, together with a discussion of guard materials not covered in that publication.

Coal is China's main source of energy. In 1988, 76.1% of commercial energy consumption was supplied by coal. To provide a rational utilization of its coal resources, China has paid considerable attention to coal preparation over the last 10 years. In 1980, there were only 105 washeries treating about 100 million tonnes of coal, but by 1988 there were 151 washeries treating 171 million tonnes per year. This paper describes the development of China's coal preparation industry; its growth, the equipment, and the technology. Statistics and information on the current status of the industry are also be presented.

The effect of changing redox potential (Eh) on the high temperature sulfuric acid leaching of Western Australian dry-land nickel laterite ores has been investigated. In particular, the effect of added reductant (sulfur, sodium sulfite) or oxidant (potassium chromate) on Eh, leaching kinetics, metal extractions, acid utilisation and leach residues has been determined. Three separate ores - nonhonitic ores from Murrin Mumn and Bulong, and limonitic ore from Cawse - were used in the study. Sulfur addition varied from 0 to 7.8 kg/t ore. The total acid loading was kept constant at 430 kg/t (Murrin Murrin ore) and 330 kglt (Cawse ore), whilst acid loading for Bulong ore was varied according to the presence of either reductant or oxidant. The extraction of both nickel and cobalt from limonite ore remained unaffected when small amounts of sulfkr were added, but addition of even small amounts of reductant to nontronitic ore decreased both nickel and cobalt extraction. Increased manganese and iron dissolution were observed as the levels of reductant increased, accompanied by a decrease in chromium dissolution. As the iron dissolution increased, free acidity decreased, with a subsequent decrease in nickel extraction. In contrast, addition of oxidant lead to reduced iron and manganese dissolution and slower extraction of nickel and cobalt. Keywords: Limonite, Nonhonite, Eh, Nickel Extraction

Many mines are opened into the coal beds by shafts; and, at some of these operations, the same cages or skips that are used for hoisting coal also are used for transporting men into and out of the mines. At some mines, separate man-and-material shafts are maintained, and the cages in these are utilized for transporting men and supplies only. In most instances, these cages are operated either singly or in pairs by a hoisting engine installed in a building near the shaft. Single ropes from the tops of the cages pass over bull wheels on the head frame to either electrically or steam-driven hoisting engines that require engineers to operate them. There are records of several instances where hoisting engineers have become incapacitated suddenly while hoisting men, and the passengers on the cages were killed or injured. Where the same cages are used for hoisting cars of coal and for lowering and hoisting men, especially where self-dumping cages or skips are used, safety pre¬cautions must be taken, such as providing steel bonnets for the cage deck, enclosed sides, adequate handholds, gates for closing the end openings, safety catches, and locking devices to prevent accidental dumping. Some of the newer hoisting installations are of the elevator type; where an operator rides in the cage in the same manner as an elevator operator in a building. These cages have single or multiple decks and are primarily for transporting men; but, in some instances, supplies also are transported. They are a great improvement over the installations where the same cages are used for hoisting cars of coal and transporting men.

Dust concentrations inside and outside enclosed cabs on several types of mining machinery were measured by the Bureau of Mines. Results indicated that properly enclosed cabs can offer significant dust protection for machine operators. Recommendations for improvements in cab technologies were discussed.

Graphitic HSS roll grades such as ESW’s brand VANIMO can be considered as the latest developments for the last finishing stands in hot strip mills. These roll grades are developed on the basis of the alloying concept of (Carbide Enhanced) Indefinite Chill work roll materials. During the development of VANIMO, the amounts and types of carbide forming elements were increased and adjusted into the direction of cast HSS roll grades. The microstructure of graphitic HSS roll grades therefore consists of tempered martensite, cementite and several different carbide types as well as a well-defined amount of free graphite. The main purpose of graphitic HSS roll grades is to combine the high surface quality of Indefinite Chill alloys as well as the high wear resistance of HSS roll grades. Several systematic steps were taken to increase the wear performance from Carbide-Enhanced Indefinite Chill grades to the more advanced VANIC grade and further on to the highest alloyed roll grade VANIMO. In every development step, the surface quality of the roll grades was carefully monitored. The decision to invest in new testing equipment at ESW’s plant was driven by the wish to see microstructural effects of different alloys in a macroscopic dimension. Usually samples are taken from cast rolls and investigation is done in comparably small areas compared to the total surface of a roll. Rolling of strip is done with the entire barrel, so effects of alloy and microstructure can appear anywhere on the barrel surface. To ensure better understanding and deeper knowledge about influences of alloying trials we decided to install the last version of LRI (Lismar Roll Inspection). LRI includes the latest technology of Eddy Current with an enormous resolution. Depending on the formation of carbide precipitations, carbide network as well as matrix and free graphite, the EC test can detect smallest differences. The possibility to analyze the different results of EC and UT surface wave inspection will be discussed. A few examples of surface effects in the mill application will be discussed and improvement strategies explained.

In discussing safety in Colorado metal mines there are two important points for metal -mining men to consider , namely , the direct and indirect cost of accidents and the possibility and means of preventing accidents . For statistics on Colorado metal - mine accidents , reference has been made to published reports of the United States Bureau of Mines on metal- mine accidents from 1919 to 1927. This period was considered because only with the year 1919 are complete figures on nonfatal accidents available and because these years represent postwar activities ; 1927 is the last year for which the U. S. Bureau of Mines has published accident statistics . During the nine -year period 1919 to 1927 , inclusive , 153 metal miners were killed by mine accidents in Colorado and 5,035 miners suffered lost - time injuries . The accidentfrequency rate of number killed per 1,000 300- day workers for this nine - year period was 4.68 as compared with the general average of 3.26 for all the metal mines of the United States for the same period . In other words , the fatality rate in the metal mines of Colorado for this nine- year period averaged 40 per cent higher than that of the metal- mining industry in the United States generally . In 1924 and 1926 the Colorado metal mines had a better accident record than the average of those of the United States , but 1927 was a bad accident year and the State Bureau of Mines figures for 1928 and 1929 showing respectively 18 and 23 men killed in and about the metal mines indicate a continuing relatively high death rate from accident . The cost of accidents to the miner for the period 1919 to 1927 can be estimated from the accident figures just given . The United States Bureau of Mines as well as other authorities assess 6,000 days lost time for every fatality and every permanent total disability . These authorities have also agreed that a permanent partial disability costs 800 days lost time to the worker over his working lifetime , that lost time injuries of less than 14 days average about 6 days lost time and lost time injuries not involving permanent disability but having loss of more than 14 days average 32 days lost time . On this basis the Colorado metal miners have suffered in nine years a gross loss of 1,214,146 days , or , at $5 per day , $6,070,730 . The miner receives about one -ninth of this amount in compensation so that the net loss to the metal miner in Colorado for this nine - year period was about $5,400,000 .

The discovery of ore at Wabana was quickly followed by the mining of the ore beds where they outcropped in the land areas. The third phase, as at present carried out, consists of extensive submarine operations, which were commenced in 1908, by driving a pair of slopes out under Conception bay, opening. the mine for a distance of a mile and a half from the shore. Two other slopes, now driven just beyond the shore line, are being sunk to the submarine territory where, it is generally recognized, huge reserves of ore lie under the bay. The process of erosion of the land, the solution and re-disposition of its iron-bearing minerals in thick beds of ore have been considered elsewhere, but these bear small relation to the physical forces which have acted upon the ore-beds since the deposition of the strata. These physical changes are made manifest by jointing and cleavage and faulting. The discussion of these, the relation they bear to each other, and to the folding of the strata, is the purpose of this article. For the benefit of those who may not be familiar with the formation in which the ore occurs, I include a general summary of the geology of Be!! island and its environs; also a description of conditions that prevailed during the period of deposition, so that the reader may appreciate some of the later changes that took place during or subsequent to its emergence from the sea, and the folding or tilting of the strata to the position it now occupies.

While the cost of transporting raw phosphate matrix from a pit to a processing plant via slurry pipelines is more efficient than it could be by rail cars, conventional trucks or belt conveyors, it still amounts to many millions of dollars, and in many areas there still exists much room for improvement. By taking advantage of pipeline test data on different slurries, it is possible to reduce costs by optimizing pipeline diameters, operating velocities and slurry concentrations. Better wearing, more efficient pump designs are now available which, if applied correctly, can lead to significant savings. The authors discuss what benefits are possible in relation to the electrical operating and wear maintenance costs and go into some of the factors associated with taking advantage of these benefits, identifying what they see as being practically possible.

"The capacity of ground support components which have been affected by corrosion is reduced and may ultimately lead to dynamic failure of the component and the strata. In order to maintain an effective, long-term ground support system, significant campaigns of rehabilitation are often required in corrosion affected areas which also expose the workers to hazardous conditions. The most common corrosion protection for steel ground support utilises sacrificial systems such as galvanising. Galvanising has previously been proven to be susceptible to some corrosion processes. Stainless steel is the most effective in resistance to corrosion, but can be cost prohibitive, and its mechanical properties often make it unsuited to use in ground support components.Providing an outer protective plastic coating to bolts has proven to be an effective means of protecting the inner steel bar from corrosion. However, these support systems tend to be susceptible to coating damage, and require post cement grouting to provide full encapsulation. In comparison to a standard bolt/resin system, they can be slow to install and expensive. These systems have also been shown to reduce overall load transfer performance of the bolting system.In order provide a higher level of corrosion protection whilst maintaining current installation practices and bolting cycle times, Minova has developed the Enduro™ Steel Ground Support Range. The Enduro™ range consists of standard Minova steel ground support components which have been treated with a unique coating process. The Enduro™ coating has been tested in the harshest of conditions, in laboratory controlled conditions and in underground trials. It has been proven to effectively resist or completely eliminate the formation of corrosion, even in the most aggressive environments. This paper explains the process and provides the details of the laboratory and underground corrosion performance testing carried out on Enduro™ ground support products.INTRODUCTIONTraditionally, the most common form of corrosion protection in steel ground support consists of a sacrificial protective coating such as galvanising (Aziz, et al., 2013). Such coatings have proven to be ineffective in extreme high and low pH conditions with corrosion of the support system commonly encountered. There is also evidence that common forms of galvanising may actually increase the rate of corrosion in certain pH environments. Figure 1 shows typical corrosion and failure of a standard re-bar roof bolt."

De acuerdo a los últimos trabajos realizados sobre la exploración en la mina Cercapuquio, se realizó un muestreo de la veta 53 donde se observó que en la caliza, más allá del ala norte, como en el lugar llamado Chaupirange, existe grandes depósitos de carbonado estático con siderita y limonita, en bolsa de erosión de la caliza normal. Asimismo, se describe otros métodos utilizados para la exploración geofísicadel subsuelo como los electromagnéticos e inducción. En ese sentido, se trata de crear un campo (primario) a través de una corriente eléctrica alterna (primaría) en un circuito. A este campo, es concadenada una corriente (secundaria) que circula en el cuerpo conductor mismo ( en general desfasada respecto de la primaria), que genera a su vez, un campo secundario. Este último se compone con el campo primario para formar un campo total, que está relacionado con la posición y naturaleza del cuerpo conductor que funciona de circuito secundario.

El almacenamiento de minerales en canchas para su lixiviación con líquidos no corrosivos, permite que estos no sufran pérdidas por filtraciones en terrenos de formación permeable. Por tal motivo, el presente texto describe la construcción de revestimientos de geomembranas impermeables que garanticen la retención de los residuos líquidos o sólidos en el proceso de lixiviación de minerales. Esta tecnología del revestimiento con geomembrana impermeable depende de factores como: la corroción del líquido, la oportunidad de su utlización, el tipo de terreno donde se deposita la membrana y la inversión económica esté disponible. Entre las más empleadas están: el revestimiento con geomembranas de asfalto, pre-fabricados, membranas de polivinilo y polieteleno.

The illustrated device uses the principle that the lamp can burn with a smaller inlet passage if the air is rich in O2 and that the size of the inlet can be made a measure of O2 percentage. The appliance consists of an adjustable cut-off applied to the inlet of a safety lamp of the improved Gray pattern. Precision is assessed from tables of calibration tests in air contaminated with blackdamp of CO2:N2 composiiton 1:5.67 at temperatures of 40-70 degrees F. Results are presented of tests at St. Germain's colliery, of tests in air contaminated with pure CO2 and of air contaminated with both blackdamp and inflammable gas; published ranges in mine-air blackdamp compositions are tabulated as ranging from 90.06% N2 to 43.90% CO2. When firedamp is present at 1.25-2.5%, its content must first be estimated by means of the cap and a fifth of its value then deducted from the lamp reading for O2
