The production of crude oil in Germany during 1934 totaled about 2,200,408 bbl., a 33 per cent increase over the 1,670,109 bbl. produced in 1933. A special war committee of the Engineering Council has been appointed to assist other committees of the United Engineering Societies having to do with the development of the arts and sciences related to warfare. One of the principal functions of this additional committee is to pass upon the probable value of new inventions. The new committee has established headquarters' in the rooms of the Naval Consulting Board in New York City, and has received the franking privilege of the Post Office Department.

Control of ball mill grinding circuits is important due to the enormous consumption of electrical energy in mineral processing and other industries. Optimal control requires preliminary detailed studies of static and dynamic characteristics of the process. In this paper a study of nonlinear dynamics is presented with a view toward application to automatic control and the achievement of maximum grinding rate at minimal energy consumption.
