"Since the mid-19th century the River Emscher in the German Ruhr District has been used for disposing of wastewater. In the early 1990s, it was decided to replace the existing open wastewater system with a sewer system and to restore the River Emscher to its natural state. The major Emscher conversion project is divided into a large number of individual schemes, with construction phase 30 being the largest. By applying the pipe jacking method, interlinking tunnels with section lengths in excess of 1,100 m are constructed. USAGE OF THE EMSCHER OVER TIME The 85-km long river Emscher flows right through the Ruhr District. It has its source to the east of Dortmund and flows into the river Rhine near Dinslaken (Figure 1).The Emscher has been used to dispose of wastewater since industrialization began about 200 years ago. Intensive coal mining over the years led to considerable subsidence causing stagnant sewer areas which in turn led to typhus and other deceases. Thus in 1899, the Emschergenossenschaft was founded to create an efficient interceptor system for a catchment area of 865 km² through lining, raising and Emschergenossenschaft decided to free the waterways of the Emscher system from sewage and to improve them in ecological terms by 2020. A budget of 4.5 billion euros was earmarked for this purpose.The construction of sewer conduits began in order to no longer transfer the wastewater into the Emscher. The currently ongoing construction of the “Emscher Interceptor” - the main sewer - represents the heart of the Emscher conversion project. The interceptor will run along the river over a length of 51 km. Three pumping stations are required to confine the sewer’s depth to elevations between 15 and a maximum of 40 m below the surface. Since early 2012, the Emscher has been free from wastewater east of the Dortmund-Deusen clarification plant. There are two further clarification plants situated along the Emscher, which treat the still contaminated river water down-stream. Once the Emscher Interceptor is in operation, they will receive wastewater solely from the tunnel system."

"The main requirements of two-component grouts are a high workability and sufficient stability against sedimentation with a retention time of more than 72 hours, as well as a rapid strength development im-mediately after grouting. Component A usually consists of OPC, water, bentonite, and retarding agent. Component B, a liquid accelerator, is added to Component A during grouting at the end of the shield tail. Current investigations on different compositions of Component A showed a high workability lasting for at least 72 hours. The workability could be extended with increasing amount of the retarding agent to a certain degree. An increase of the bentonite content improved the stability of the mix, but had a negative impact on the flowability respectively the workability of Component A. High compressive strengths could be rather achieved by an adapted mixing ratio of Component A and B than by increasing the amount of the accelerator. Thereby, the interactions and compatibility of the selected constituents play an essential role. INTRODUCTION In mechanized tunneling with segment linings, the annular gap between segment ring and soil must be filled instantaneously with an adequate grouting mortar. The main functions of the annular gap grouting are to stabilize the tunnel lining and to minimize settlements of the ground surface at the same time. Thereby, two contradictory requirements are demanded on annular gap grouts: On the one hand a high workability and sufficient stability against sedimentation, on the other hand a rapid strength develop-ment immediately after grouting. Besides single-component grouts, which achieve the necessary stiffen-ing by dewatering into the surrounding soil, two-component grouts are used, especially in cohesive soils with a very low permeability. Basically, annular gap grouts are almost exclusively defined on empirical basis. Fundamental studies about the constituents and composition of the grout as well as the related achievable properties are still missing so far. Therefore, it is necessary to investigate the material-specific correlations regarding the relevant parameters of annular gap grouts – workability and flowability, stability of the mix as well as strength development – in comprehensive experiments. Based on the knowledge gained from the investigations, it should also be possible, to perform the grouting material according to a real design concept and thus, to ensure an adequate grouting in prac-tice considering the geological and hydro-geological conditions."

Smallbore tunnels in urban environments often present more technical and managerial problems than major large diameter schemes carried out for transportion, water supply and hydro-electric facilities. The 1.8 km Bath scheme was designed for construction in tunnel using the pipe jacking system. Unforeseen ground conditions meant other techniques were needed during construction. The paper describes the problems encountered and how they were overcome.

This paper will discuss the application of a continuous miner using a fixed drum milling type cutting head for the underground mining of hard rock and salt ores. Continuous mining machines of the ripper chain cutting head, oscillating milling cutting head and boring arm designs have been used in rock and salt applications with various degrees of success. The large boring arm miners have been successful in potash, trona and salt, but they have not been successful in mining rock materials like iron ore. The main method used in underground mining rock materials is the conventional drilling and blasting the ore from the solid. This is particularly true for the harder, more abrasive copper and iron bearing ores. The softer salt based ores of potash, trona and rock salt can use several underground mining methods depending on seam conditions. Several of these methods use underground coal mining equipment that has been extensively redesigned to adapt it for use in mining noncoal materials. Conventional mining methods employ the use of a universal cutting machine to undercut or topcut the ore body before face drilling and blasting takes place to produce a smooth parting of the ore. The boring arm continuous miner is widely used in underground mining of potash and trona ores. It produces a tunnel with a smooth semicircular contour which results in good rib and roof stability. The ripper chain continuous miner is also widely used in mining the salt based ores of potash, trona and rock salt. They are used more frequently in Europe than in the United States and Canada. The Bureau of Mines measured respirable dust emission rates from overburden drilling at a surface coal mine and the transport of this dust to downwind locations. The emission rates were estimated by using multiple gravimetric dust samplers mounted on a cross-shaped tripod located immediately downwind of the drill. The transport of this dust was measured at more distant downwind locations by a combination of respirable gravimetric sampling and integrated bag sampling of sulfur hexafluoride (SF6), which was used as a tracer gas. Two modes of sampling were used: (1) At five sampling locations arranged in a semicircle around the drill. The radius of this arc ranged from 15.85 m (52 ft) to 71.32 m (234 ft). (2) In-line sampling at downwind locations with samplers located at intervals of either 10.67 m (35 ft) or 15.24 m (50 ft) for a total distance of 76.20 m (250 ft). Samples were taken 1 .22 m to 1.52 m (4 to 5 ft) above ground level. Test results for the semicircular test arrangements showed that at any downwind location, the maximum contribution of respirable dust due specifically to the drilling operation was 42%; the average for eight tests was 13.6%. In general, there was no correlation between the downwind distance of this maximum contribution and the maximum contribution itself because of changing wind direction. Test results for the in-line arrangements indicated that the transport of the dust from the drilling operation usually decreases rapidly with distance and that, even though the drill dust may produce significant health hazards for the drill operator and drill helper (or other personnel in the immediate vicinity), the exposure of downwind personnel to drill-generated dust may not be a significant problem.

We at Colowyo would like to thank you for the opportunity to share with the Society of Mining Engineers of A.I.M.E. the progress of reclamation at Colowyo Coal Company's multiple seam open pit coal mine which is a general partnership of W.R. Grace and Co., and the Hanna Mining Co. First, a brief history of Colowyo Coal Company (Colowyo). The Colowyo operation is located approximately 28 miles southwest of Craig, Colorado, which is in the northwest corner of the state. The Colowyo operation produces coal from a Federal Coal Lease, a portion of which has experienced previous coal mining by underground methods. The underground coal mines were known as the Red Wing Mine and The Streeter Mine, and supplied coal to numerous locations in the Rocky Mountain region.

The use of personal computers (PCs) is increasing in underground construction applications, specifically, for estimating, record keeping, construction performance analysis, project cost reporting, and the effective application of construction experience for estimating and aggressive bidding. Applications particularly suited to the PC are analyses of construction performance and differing site condition claims. The advantages of using a PC in the analysis of differing site conditions claims is that the PC: requires quantitative and factual data, allows vast data manipulations, calculations, and sorting, and provides a simple graphic representation of complex data and issues. The restrictions imposed by a PC are conducive to the focus on essential facts, issues, quantitative analyses, and inherently, the truth. As computer thinking is established, a clearer, more precise and accurate focus on the elements of a differing site condition is essential for successful evaluation and presentation.

This paper investigates variations of lignite quality attributes with geostatistical methods. The study focuses on lignite from the Southern Field in the Greek province of West Macedonia. The targeted quality variable is the ash water-free content (AWF). A geostatistical model is constructed based on data from 480 drillholes (approximate drill hole spacing of 250m). For each drillhole, the vertical average of the AWF is calculated. The coarse-grained AWF is then modeled as the superposition of a trend surface and fluctuations. The spatial dependence of the fluctuations is modeled by means of the experimental variogram. Kriging estimators are used to determine the AWF values on a rectangular grid, and the uncertainty of the estimates is calculated. Implications of the analysis for the variability of the produced lignite are discussed, and recommendations for additional drilling are proposed.

The CERAMEC pressure filter is used for the filtration of fine materials whose cake moisture cannot be achieved with vacuum. Development work has been carried out to achieve a well-controlled cake forming and cleaning of the filter media as well as an efficient solids discharge system. Operating costs are low due to low energy input and negligible consumption of pressurized air.

Two years on from the first SDIMI conference, significant progress has been made in further developing and implementing the Framework. To fulfill their commitment to implement and report performance against the ten sustainable development principles in the Framework, ICMM’s corporate members have committed to report ‘in accordance’ with the GRI 2002 Sustainability Reporting Guidelines and the Mining and Metals Sector Supplement, developed by the GRI and ICMM. While much remains to be done, development of the Supplement and the commitment to reporting mark an important milestone for ICMM and the sector.

"Physical impurity transfer in solvent extraction (SX) has a significant impact on operating costs, electrowinning (EW) performance, and cathode quality. Some operations use a wash stage to limit impurity transfer by diluting the entrained pregnant leach solution (PLS) to prevent direct transfer to EW. Wash stage operating conditions vary impacting impurity transfer. A number of factors impact dilution efficiency including mixer continuity, wash aqueous acidity, and organic quality. The impact of these variables on dilution efficiency was studied and compared to current industry practice. INTRODUCTION With the exception of iron, impurity transfer in copper SX is due to PLS carryover in the loaded organic via aqueous entrainment and crud movement. The quantity of impurity transfer is influenced by many variables including operating set points, organic quality, and settler housekeeping. Crud management and treatment is a common practice aimed at minimizing transfer of impurities to EW. Crud is a complex solid-stabilized emulsion of aqueous and organic[9]. As such, it contains a large aqueous component and the associated impurities (from the PLS). A common practice is to remove interfacial crud to prevent movement. Additionally, mixer continuity can be altered to enable compaction and improve the efficiency of interfacial pumping[10]. Understanding the factors impacting aqueous entrainment and optimizing the available controls should be a key focus for any operation. Aqueous entrainment in the loaded organic can be impacted by: • Mixer continuity • Mixer organic/aqueous (O/A) ratio • Mixer speed and impeller type • Organic and aqueous depths • Specific settler flow • Use of settler internals (picket fences, coalescing packs) • Organic quality • Design and operation of loaded organic tanks Conventional thought is to run the E1 mixer in aqueous continuity to reduce aqueous entrainment. Generally, O/A ratios close to 1:1 result in improved metallurgical and physical performance. Mixer speeds should be chosen to achieve acceptable stage efficiencies while minimizing over-mixing. Organic depths can be increased in the E1 stage to increase retention time and minimize aqueous entrainment. Settler internals can also be used, but require maintenance to maintain effectiveness. The quality of the plant organic inventory will impact physical performance. Poor organic quality can lead to higher phase disengagement times increasing impurity transfer to the electrolyte. Additionally, the design and operation of the loaded organic tank can impact impurity transfer[8]. Despite the variables that can be used to reduce aqueous entrainment and crud movement, impurity transfer is still an issue in some operations. For these operations with high PLS impurity concentrations, a wash stage may be beneficial to manage impurity transfer. Understanding factors impacting wash stage performance is important to optimize performance and limit impurity transfer."

This is a world of change and has been from the beginning. There are constant efforts on the part of natural forces to wear down the high spots and fill in the low spots. Wind and water over eons of time tunnel through obstacles and build windways and waterways to make movement of air and water easier and more efficient. It is a natural, never ending, ever changing continuing effort. Man in his struggle to survive, and to progress, has had to adapt the terrain of the earth to fit his needs the best he could. First, he used natural caves to protect him from the elements; then he learned how to build earth and rock-moving tools from antlers, bone, rocks, and sticks and adapted his cave to increase his security and provide better protection from heat and cold and from his predatory enemies. As his numbers increased, so did the necessity of further adapting his environment to accommodate his needs. Water was usually not available when and where needed, especially in the desert areas where civilization developed, and long tunnels were drilled to intercept ground waters and lead them to underground caves carved out of soft limestone. Most of the tunnels of early man were to bring water from where it was to where man needed it. Then, as now, as man increased his chances for physical survival, he turned to the quality of life -- and this reflected in the concern for life after death. This lead to the elaborate shafts and tunnels for the protection and prservation of the more affluent noblemen and pharaohs of the early Egyptian civilization. Man used the underground for the stable temperature and for protection and safety.

Within the industrial marketplace barium sulfate has an established role as a filler or extender pigment for use in a wide array of applications. The focus of this paper is to outline a number of these applications and in each one characterizes those features of barium sulfate which provide value. Following this is a discussion of the process techniques which have been used to develop value from a selected class of barite ores found in southern Missouri. It is appropriate to define some terms which may help in clarifying some concepts as presented. Use of the term barium sulfate refers broadly to the chemical compound BaSO4 Barite will generally refer to the naturally occurring barium sulfate ores and their properties. Barytes, whether bleached or not, will refer to barite ore made suitable for industrial applications.

"INTRODUCTION Anadarko Petroleum Corporation (Anadarko) owns a region of oil shale properties acquired as part of the original Union Pacific Land Grant of the 1800’s in southern Wyoming. These holdings are greater than 2 million acres and occur throughout the Green River Formation in southwestern Wyoming. One area was prioritized for further study by Anadarko Minerals called the Kinney Rim in the Washakie Basin due to low environmental impact, proximity to infrastructure, high ore grade, and low mining cost. The area is a low-overburden oil shale resource that can be developed using surface mining methods, processed by conventional surface retort, and placing waste rock disposal back on the bench for a design capacity of 10,000 barrel per day. The purpose of this papers is to present the results of environmental analysis and timeline, the mine plan, and surface ore processing to offer a resource-ready energy source.Mineral rights for the Kinney Rim area are owned by Anadarko, the United States Bureau of Land Management (BLM) and the State of Wyoming. Mining of oil shale for this study targets Anadarko owned mineral resources.GEOLOGY The study area is in the Green River and Washakie Basins in western Wyoming. The host geologic member is the Laney Oil Shale. Figure 2 illustrates the Laney shale within a generalized lithologic cross section.OIL SHALE LEASING The proposed Kinney Rim oil shale mining project is located in an area dominated by a 1 square mile checkerboard landownership pattern with every other section typically administered by Bureau of Land Management (BLM) and Anadarko. Surface and mineral ownership is a split estate legal entity. The immediate Kinney Rim mine plan is all on Anadarko sections."

Pipe canopies continue to gain momentum as a reliable methodology for construction of excavations below critical facilities with minimal surface settlement tolerances, such as railroads or roadways. Two tunnel projects designed by Kilduff Underground Engineering in the Salt Lake City, UT area, each at varying stages of completion, had project design criteria for selection of a tunneling methodology to minimize surface settlement. Both projects consist of a pedestrian tunnel, one crossing beneath a major roadway in downtown Salt Lake City and the second beneath UPRR tracks. Both projects were in difficult, coarse alluvium/fan ground conditions with project criteria that resulted in minimal cover above the tunnel. For each project, a pre-support pipe canopy was designed, requiring the placement of steel, canopy pipes driven the extent of the tunnel length. The pipe canopy is installed using a trenchless technology and then excavated with SEM tunneling and shoring provided by traditional support of excavation methods. The pipe canopy pre-support method offers a low-impact method to install an underpass beneath critical structures by adding significant stiffness to the subgrade to mitigate surface settlement during the main tunnel excavation sequence. These case studies seek to communicate the challenges associated with pipe canopy installation in site-specific ground conditions and explains how these challenges were overcome. This paper aims to define the project risks and describes the pipe canopy methodology as a viable solution to mitigate surface settlement in low cover tunneling scenarios.

"Fully grouted rock bolts have been used in mining industry for many years. Significant research has been conducted to evaluate the load transfer behavior of fully grouted rock bolts with experimental programs. However, compared with that, less work has been conducted with analytical modelling. Therefore, in this paper, the authors used an analytical model to study the load transfer behavior of fully grouted rock bolts. To confirm the credibility of this analytical model, an in-situ pull-out test was used to validate this model. There was a close match between the experimental result and the analytical result. Following this, a parametric study was conducted with this analytical model. The influence of coefficients, Young’s modulus of the rock bolt and the diameter of the rock bolt on the load transfer performance of rock bolts were studied. Furthermore, the load distribution along the fully grouted rock bolt was analytically studied. The results show that the axial load in the rock bolt decayed from the loaded end to the free end independent of the pull-out load. However, the trend of the load distribution curve was influenced by the pull-out load. This paper was beneficial to better understand the load transfer mechanism of fully grouted rock bolts.INTRODUCTIONRock bolts have been used in the mining industry for a long time. They are used as the reinforcement tendons to keep the stability of openings in underground mining and the slope in open-pit mining. Furthermore, rock bolts are commonly used not only in the mining engineering, but also in civil engineering (Thompson, Villaescusa, and Windsor, 2012).The rock bolt is a tendon which can be a rod or a cable inserted into a borehole drilled in rock masses or soils. Traditionally, the material of rock bolts was steel. However, engineering practices showed that the steel rock bolts can be easily corroded by the moist environment in underground mines. Next, Fiber Reinforced Polymer (FRP) was used to manufacture rock bolts, which are termed as FRP rock bolts. Experimental results proved that the FRP rock bolts can effectively reinforce the surrounding rock masses without being corroded (Wang et al., 2018)."

"A longwall gob is mainly filled with broken rocks from the collapsed roof and becomes a porous medium where explosive methane-air mixtures can accumulate. In bleeder ventilation systems, this mixture can migrate out of the gob into the longwall face and other active areas in the mine during barometric or ventilation-induced pressure changes. When external pressures change, the gob does not perceive this disturbance instantly but with a delay due to air flow resistance in the porous gob material. The delay of gob response to outside pressure changes increases the pressure differential across the gob and may cause an outflow of explosive air mixtures from the gob into the adjacent bleeder entries. With computational fluid dynamics (CFD) modeling, researchers at the Colorado School of Mines have evaluated the impact of gob pressure fluctuations on the outgassing of the explosive gas zones (EGZs), the magnitudes and rates of pressure changes, the volumes as well as the potentials location of outgassing if it occurs. INTRODUCTION The air pressure field in underground mines is controlled by many factors such as operating fan settings, ventilation controls, surface atmospheric conditions, and other local events that can intermittently disturb mine pressure, including blasting, roof falls, or inundations. Mine fan settings are rarely changed. Mine atmospheric pressure fluctuations due to adjustments in ventilation controls occur more often during the mining process. Atmospheric conditions and barometric pressures can generate fluctuations in mine pressure on a large scale. Atmospheric pressures change regularly every day but can fluctuate abruptly and become increasingly hazardous in adverse weather conditions. Investigations conducted in coal mines in the United States, Australia, Poland, and South Africa observed higher methane emissions from the gob during periods of falling atmospheric pressures, which led to mine explosions (McIntosh, 1957; Boyer, 1964; Kissell et al., 1973; Fauconnier, 1992; Belle, 2014; Wasilewski, 2014; Lolon et al., 2015). Falling external pressures are understood to cause potential outflow of explosive mixtures from the gob, while rising pressures may push fresh air into the gob. This phenomenon is widely known as gob breathing. The actual processes that trigger gob breathing are not fully understood, nor are the parameters that contribute to the process. Other major events such as roof falls or fan failures can also change the pressure conditions in the mine. In contrast to atmospheric pressure changes, these events can change mine pressures much more rapidly or immediately. TIME LAG AND GOB BREATHING CONCEPT In a bleeder ventilation system, the pressure in the gob is designed to be lower than that of the headgate entries and the longwall face. Air from the gob and gate entries flows towards the tailgate-bleeder returns. When the external pressures are disturbed, this designed pressure arrangement may change, potentially resulting in increased outflow from or inflow into the gob."

"SUMMARY Investigations from tunnel face are part of risk mitigation measures during the excavation works. With the tunnel equipment, percussion drillings of up to 30-40m can be achieved. Core drillings are state of art method for investigation exceeding 50m. At Koralm base tunnel, up to 270m deep percussion drillings were performed with drilling rigs and accompanied by an intensive investigation program. These investigations consisted of monitoring during the drilling, field tests (with packer, using the preventer, borehole imaging) and in laboratory. Percussion drillings are cheaper and save time of interruption of the excavation progress. INTRODUCTION As part of a proper risk management, horizontal advance drillings during excavation of underground works can be seen as state of art and meet wide acceptance. Core drillings, deep and shallow percussion drillings can be differed. The selection of the type of drilling, meanwhile, causes intensive discussions. On the one hand, only a core drilling allows a direct investigation of the rock mass expected during later excavation works. On the other hand core drillings are expensive in both cost and time – if there is no excavation progress during the investigation measures – in construction time. Percussion drillings can be performed as rapid investigation measure with the excavation equipment (“Jumbo”) allowing two dimensional image of the ground around the cross section. There is some limitation concerning a reasonable depth of approximately 30m and a borehole diameter of 76mm. The applications of preventer, packer or borehole imaging are hardly applicable. By use of a drilling rig depths of percussion drillings of several hundred meters can be achieved relative easily and there is less limitation of the borehole diameter. Installation of a preventer is possible, as well as packer tests and borehole measurements (imaging, gyroscope, borehole geophysics). The gap of information between core and percussion drilling cannot be closed completely, but it can be reduced substantially and sufficiently by combination of an intensive program of measurements and analysis accompanying the investigation works."

Introduction Backfilling of mine voids is used to prevent or control the effects of subsidence on surface structures. The pumped-slurry, blind backfilling process has been successful for stabilizing ground over abandoned and inaccessible underground coal mines. This article describes the systematic evaluation of potential monitoring systems that would improve backfill monitoring technology. It also details field proof-of-concept tests that were conducted on two systems and the difficulties encountered in implementing them. Ground subsidence over abandoned mines can have devastating effects on overlying urban areas decades after the closing of room-and-pillar mines. The result may be cracked foundations, ruptured gas and water lines, broken sewers, distortion or cracking in superstructures, and sinks and potholes in the ground surface. About 32,000 km2 (8 million acres) of land in the US has been undermined for coal. According to the US General Accounting Office, 8,100 km2 (2 million acres) have undergone subsidence and another 8,100 km2 (2 million acres) are expected to subside by the year 2000. Actual figures on land affected or threatened by subsidence are probably much higher, since these estimates were based on late 1960s studies. For more than two decades, the US Bureau of Mines has been engaged in stabilizing ground in urban areas having high risk potential for subsidence costing millions of dollars. Thousands of acres have been stabilized, protecting property worth hundreds of millions of dollars. In earlier years, backfilling was by in-mine stowing in accessible mines or by gravity-feed sluicing methods in inaccessible mines. Pumped-slurry methods have been used extensively in the past 10 years. More slurry can be injected for fill from fewer injection holes over extensive areas in abandoned mines. Since this method requires fewer boreholes, there is less disruption of surface facilities. An investigation was conducted to determine the feasibility of using advanced, remote sensing or monitoring technology for application in monitoring fill placement. Specifically, the objective was to develop conceptual systems for blind backfill monitoring that require fewer boreholes and give better definition than is now possible. Blind Backfilling Methods Blind backfilling operations are conducted from the surface and do not require personnel and equipment underground. These methods are applicable to abandoned, inaccessible workings. Two categories of blind back-filling are point support, practiced by civil engineers to protect individual structures or surface facilities, and areal backfilling methods, used to protect large areas against subsidence. Point Support Methods Point support methods are usually gravity-feed systems. In general, point support methods use small volumes of expensive fill material and require a large number of boreholes within a constructed site. Because of the processed material used for back-filling and the close spacing of the injection boreholes, control and monitoring often may be accomplished by borehole cameras. Areal Backfilling Areal backfilling is conducted mainly by the pumped-slurry injection process (Fig. 1). In eastern and interior coalfields, material used is often mine refuse or flyash, both being undesirable on the surface and costly to dispose of in an environmentally acceptable manner. In Electric Arc Furnace (EAF) steelmaking, dust emissions are collected in a baghouse to prevent their escape to the Environment. This fine dust, predominantly iron oxide, also contains oxides of various other metals introduced into the EAF from the scrap charge. For example, mixed or galvanized scrap brings with it zinc, lead, and small quantities of cadmium which preferentially accumulate in the collected off-gas dust. Stainless steel scrap brings chromium into the charge, some of which also makes its way into the baghouse dust as hexavalent chromium-containing oxides. Because many of the contained heavy metal oxides are water-leachable, the U. S. Environmental Protection Agency has listed EAF dust as a hazardous waste which, as of August 8, 1988, cannot be 1andfi11ed without first being treated. Moreover, beginning August 8, 1991, all dusts with zinc concentrations of 15% or greater will be required to undergo high temperature thermal treatment to remove the heavy metals prior to any further disposal. This deadline represents several EPA-granted time extensions to the original requirements; extensions which were granted to allow for further development of process technologies.
