"Recent amendments to the so-called ""flow-through share"" rules in our income tax legislation have given a new lease on life to this once popular investment vehicle.The original ""Dome funds"" for exploration in the Beaufort sea recognized the usefulness of flow-through share arrangements, but, by and large, flow-through shares have until recently not been able to compete effectively with other tax shelter instruments-mainly , limited partnership interests.This month, Tax Notes examines the new tax rules for investing in flow-through shares.IntroductionRecent income tax amendments have helped to rekindle investor and industry interest in so-called ""flow-through shares"" as a mechanism for mobilizing funds toward mineral exploration and development activities. In competing for investment funds, flow-through shares have historically placed a distant second in terms of investor popularity, being unable to compete with the more attractive features of limited partnership arrangements. However, primarily as a result of favourable changes to the income tax law, flow-through shares may be well poised for a comeback.This article examines the income tax considerations pertaining to issuing and investing in flow-through shares, and compares the former and the new income tax rules relating thereto. Of course, inasmuch as a flow-through share issue can involve various contractual arrangements between the investor and the issuer, there is a wide range of legal and business factors that generally have to be taken into account. A discussion of these matter s is beyond the scope of this paper, which is restricted to a summary of the special income tax factors attributable to flow-through shares."

THE following notes are offered primarily to show that industrial minerals or their products have a much more important place in the metallurgical industry than is perhaps generally realized, and with the hope also that some statement by the metallurgical consumer of the relative merits of various materials for particular requirements or services will l;>e of value to the industrial mineral producer. These notes are not in any way presented as complete. Also, some of the statements made may be debatable. The grouping adopted is as follows: (1) Refractories; (2) Fluxes; (3) Construction materials; and ( 4) Miscellaneous applications. Fuels are not dealt with in the present paper. REFRACTORIES GENERAL: Refractories are materials which will withstand high temperatures with-out melting or becoming markedly soft or pasty. While their primary function is to withstand heat, they are usually called upon to resist one or more of the following destructive influences: abrasion, pressure, corrosion by slags or fluxes, and rapid changes in temperature. Refractory materials may be conveniently divided into three classes: (1) Acid refractories-consisting of silica, or containing silica as their chief constituent. They combine more or less readily with metallic oxides, forming silicates, and are hence termed 'acid'. The most important of these are quartz, quartzite, siliceous sand, tripoli, Dinas rock, and ganister. Most fire-clays, although generally considered neutral sub-stances, contain relatively small amounts of free silica and are, to that extent, acid. (2) Neutral refractories-the term is merely relative in most cases, since, at high temperature, many of the refractories that are classed as neutral will react chemically with a strong base, functioning as a weak acid; or, conversely, with a strong acid, functioning as a weak base. Chrome and graphite are the most nearly neutral of all the commonly used refractory materials.

The area around Osisko lake, the Horne mine, and the town of Rouyn, in northwestern Quebec, presents a most interesting structural problem. The present discussion is confined to an area around Osisko lake, about six miles long and three miles wide, shown in Figure 1. The writers are particularly indebted to Mr. Thayer Lindsley, of Ventures Limited, who sponsored the investigation and gave permission to publish this paper. Mr. H. L. Roscoe and Mr. Oliver Hall, of Noranda Mines, Limited, gave every possible assistance; and the Noranda geologists, Mr. H. M. Butterfield, Dr. Peter Priee, and Dr. G. G. Coal samples are sometimes taken from a wet spot in a mine, or from an open car or pile shortly after rain, and submitted for analysis in a dripping wet condition. Other samples are taken from a dry spot in the mine, or from an open car or pile after a period of dry weather. Comparison of the analyses obtained in the two cases would be absurd, although the samples might be of essentially the same coat apart from the surface moisture on the one. The analyst therefore attempts to reduce all samples to an equal basis by the operation known as air-drying. Air-drying is practised by the chemist for three reasons: (1) To make it possible to grind the coal to powder. (2) To bring the coal sample to a condition in which it will not change in weight rapidly whilst portions are being weighed out for analysis -in other words, to bring it into equilibrium with the air in the laboratory. (3) To determine the water-retaining power of the coal. Any kind of drying is satisfactory for (1); the coal should be dried more or less according to the humidity at the time in the laboratory for (2); whilst it should be always dried to the same extent for (3). In other words, no method can be satisfactory for both (2) and (3). In this paper the only question considered is (3) -that is, air-drying the coal under standard conditions so that strictly comparable results can be obtained for the water content of coals after air-drying. After a sample of wet coal is exposed, it loses moisture until it is in equilibrium with the air at the time: thus the coal will loose distinctly more water in air of 20 per cent relative humidity, for example, than it would in air of 80 per cent.

"A hydrocyclic system used for mineral separation at the laboratory scale results in the separation of more than 90% of micas. The system functions only by water and might offer advantages where other methods of mica separation are not available. INTRODUCTIONVarious methods for the separation of micas, wollastonite, and garnet, e.g., screening, flotation, magnetic separation, and heavy liquids, are well known (e.g., Spence, 1929; Bates,I960; Gillson et al., 1960; Benjamin, 1971; Connor and Kolhnar, 1991; Collings and Andrews, 1991). However, where these methods are not available, the separation of micas by a hydrocyclic system developed by Sarafi and Aftabi (1991) may prove to be economic. This note is a brief description of the hydrocyclic system. Minerals and MethodFor testing the recovery of mica and other minerals from different rocks (garnet-mica schist, skarn, and pegmatite), standard minerals were tested first, and then rock samples. Pure mineral standards were prepared from coarse-grained samples of pegmatite, mica schist and skarn; the grain size of the minerals separated was more than I cm. The Hydrocyclic System and Mineral SeparationThe hydrocyclic system is shown schematically in Figure 1. In the first step in mineral separation, mineral and rock samples were crushed, milled, and then sieved to minus 250 plus 125 microns. Approximately 10 gm to 25 gm of the sample were inserted in decanter Dt • The motor pwnps, M1 and M2, were then turned on and the water valve rl was opened. At this time, water was flowing turbulently (30 em3/sec. to 50 em3/sec.) and minerals were separated according to their crystallographic nature, density and!or habit. The fInal separation was done by exit valves r2, r3 and r4, while the motor pwnps were still operating. After each experiment, the rt , r2' r3 and r4 valves were closed and the motor pumps were turned off. Following this, minerals in each decanter and the mter were collected, dried and weighed. The whole time of the experiment was optimized to be about 10 minutes, but varied from 3 to 15 minutes for micas and garnets. respectively."

The coal-mining industry of Nova Scotia, particularly of the island of Cape Breton, today faced as no other industry with economic problems calling for progressive engineering with production on an economic basis, must soon enter upon a phase of reorganization wherein all factors conducive to the cost of producing coal relative to the prolongation of the life of the collieries with the ultimate winning of the maximum submarine area must be closely reviewed. Bearing this in mind and applying the process of elimination to coal-mining costs generally, we are left with only three channels through which we may approach the problem of cost reduction in producing coal: (a) intensive mechanization (b) reduction in the cost of labour (c) reduction in the cost of materials. Assuming that mechanization has reached an economic stage and that labour costs have reached an economic limit, we must turn our attention to the general material costs, which may be classified as 'live' and 'dead' costs. The former take in all things which can be accredited with a fractional depreciation and written off the balance sheet over a period of years. On the other hand, the ?dead'costs-of which the cost of supporting the underground workings form part must be completely written off: for these, no return may be expected, other than the economic return in the reduction of the cost per ton of coal produced.

"A regional till sampling program in the Upsalquitch Forks-Tetagouche Lakes area, centred some 70km west of the city of Bathurst, has proven an effective method for gold exploration in the heavily glaciated interior of northern New Brunswick. Prospecting activities within this area over the past three years, have led to the discovery of several gold occurences associated with quartz-carbonate alteration in a variety of intrusive rock types emplaced along major fault zonesQuaternary mapping shows that the glacial history is complex. However, the displacement of material is uniform in distance and direction, and the till is generally thin (0.5 m to 2.0 m) and locally derived, making the interpretation of till geochemical patterns relatively simple for the explorationist. Previous studies have shown the the fin e-grained gold is best detected in the -250 mesh (-0.063 mm) till fraction (clay plus silt) and that the C-horizon is the preferred medium for analyses.Samples were collected on a 2 km grid and analyzed f or Cu, Pb, Zn, Au, Ag, As, Sb, Mn, Fe, Ni, Co, and Cd. Results indicate that concentrations of 10 to 20 ppb Au can effectively delineate areas of anomalous gold in bedrock associated with fault structures, and that a good potential for discoveries exists to the west of the known occurrences, where up to 678 ppb A u has been detected in tills. IntroductionThis paper reports on the result s of surficial geological investigations conducted over the past two field seasons in north-central New Brunswick. The stud y area is located in the Upsalquitch Forks-Tetagouche Lakes map area s (N.T.S. 21 0 19 and 21 0 (10) 70 km west of the city of Bathurst (Fig. I). The area is situated on the margin of the New Brunswick Highlands and has a maximum elevation of 640 m (for a detailed description of the physiography, see Rampton et al. 1984).Historically, exploration in northern New Brunswick has concentrated on base metals within the Cambro-Ordovician Tetagouche Group, resulting in the discovery of man y significant massive sulphide deposits (Brunswick No.6 and No. 12, Heath Steele, Caribou, Armstrong Brook, Orvan Brook, McMaster, Murray Brook, and Restigouche). Auriferous base metal occurrences along the Rocky Brook-Millstream Fault have also been previously investigated."

In the formation of Oil and Gas Producing Units lawyer& and engineers are interdependent members of the same team. Management is, there-fore, entitled to expect no less than a total cooperative effort from the members of these professions. The petroleum and natural gas lawyer must diligently inform himself on the implications of engineering evidence. Otherwise he can be of little assistance to his engineering witness in a thorough, systematic and convincing presentation of his technical evidence. Conversely, the engineer must appreciate the concern of counsel that quasijudical hearings, whether technical or otherwise, be con-ducted in such a manner as to pre-serve some semblance of organized judicial procedures in the adjudication of property rights. The principal problems in unitization are the participation formula and the adjustment of investment in unit facilities. The equating of oil to gas, the effect of unit infill drilling, the relative values of producing zones and well productivity have •been controversial factors in several Saskatchewan units to date. Perhaps the most perplexing of these has been well productivity. While preserving current income, it may also preserve an ability to drain adjacent tracts plus an inequitable sharing of .reserves properly attributable to secondary recovery operations. However, inequity may also result in depriving an operator of the benefits accruing to him under competitive operations by virtue of his favourable reservoir position or his use of advanced production techniques. The Saskatchewan Oil and Gas Conservation Act has been construed by the Department of Mineral Resources as •completely negating any benefits inherent in the rule of capture when determining equities under unit operations. Under adjustment of investment provisions, large cash flows between owners of exploited acreage should be avoided upon the creation of a unit. These provisions should not deprive any company of the benefits it may have obtained under competitive operations in producing its fair share of the reservoir at a lower net cost per barrel than its competitors. Unitization should be concerned with physical conservation rather than in equalizing production costs as between operators.

THE Bullion mine, in the famous Cariboo district of British Columbia, is situated on the left bank of the South fork of the Quesnel river, approximately three miles below the outlet of Quesnel lake. A good road leads 63 miles northeast to the property from Williams lake, the railhead on the Pacific Great Eastern railway. The mine may also be reached over good roads from Vancouver via the Fraser canyon, Ashcroft, Clinton, and the 150-mile house, a total distance of 407 miles. In the early days of placer mining on the South fork of the Quesnel, several rich bars were found. The 'pay' on one of these at the mouth of Dancing Bill gulch was followed up the gulch by a Chinese company, who proved to be the discoverers of the present Bullion mine. This Chinese company commenced working in 1884, in what was then referred to as the China pit. Although working under very primitive conditions, it is reported that, during the ten years they operated the property, they recovered in excess of $900,000 in gold. This somewhat large recovery was due to a local concentration, the result of Dancing Bill creek having meandered down that portion of the channel and washed off the overburden. In 1894, a syndicate composed largely of the Canadian Pacific Railway directorate of that time, with J. B. Hobson as their field manager, acquired the property, as the apparent magnitude of the operation was too great for the resources of the Chinese company. Mr. Hobson, during the first ten years of his regime, developed the mine into a large-scale hydraulic operation, and during that period, from 1894 to 1905, recovered approximately $1,234,000 in gold. In 1906, the property was sold to the Guggenheim Exploration Company, who retained Mr. Hobson as Manager and embarked on an extensive programme to bring in additional water. This project was never completed, however, work being suddenly abandoned in 1907 and the mine closed down. Shortly afterwards, the property was purchased by a small operator on what is believed to have been largely borrowed capital. This venture resulted in no production, but in much litigation, which eventually reached the Privy Council in 1920.

Catalyst systems comprising (Ph3P)AuCH3 and acid co-catalysts were found to be highly efficient for hydration of alkynes to give ketones. Methanol was the best choice of solvents. Introduction Hydration of carbon-carbon unsaturated bonds is one of the environmentally benign routes to the carbon-oxygen bond formation. Hydration of alkynes forming carbonyl compounds, an important variation in this category, is a well known reaction which has been extensively studied. The reaction by acid-catalysis is the most conventional method, while it is applicable only to electron rich acetylenes to obtain satisfactory yields (1,2). The hydration of simple alkynes usually requires another catalyst (co-catalyst), typically a mercury(II) salt (3), which is inconsistent with the guiding principle of Green Chemistry (4).

High quality, mono-dispersed, hollow CeO2 microspheres with high surface area were produced by a spray pyrolysis method at 700oC. CeCl3 was used as the raw material of the process rather than Ce(NO3)3 because the latter is relatively difficult to obtain in industrial quantities. X-ray diffraction and electron microscopy results confirm the high quality synthesis of hollow CeO2 microspheres with narrow size distribution, good mono-disperse, and good reproducibility. The process of the formation of mono-dispersive CeO2 microspheres was investigated by chemical dynamics and a possible mechanism is proposed. This simple method for synthesis of CeO2 microspheres is easily scaled up to fabricate other metal oxide nanostructured materials at industrial scale.

"The objective of this paper is to describe the potential impact of inter-provincial competition f or new output capacity on the Canadian potash industry. It will be shown that the ramifications of such actions are potentially severe, especially since the potash industry is one of the few non-fuel minerals in which Canada purportedly possesses a significant degree of market power. More specifically, the paper addresses the impact of possible expansions in New Brunswick, Manitoba and, perhaps, Saskatchewan. The findings suggest that such initiatives could result in substantial excess capacity and the dissipation of monopoly rents. In summary, given the market structure of the industry, it is unlikely that the employment and economic effects associated with industry expansion will offset the loss in national welfare attributable to rent dissipation.IntroductionThe objective of this paper is to discuss the potential impact of inter-provincial competition for new output capacity on the Canadian potash industry. "INTRODUCTIONChina is providing more than 90% of the rare earth products consumed in the whole world. Acidic extractants are commonly used in the extraction separation of rare earths. Saponification of the acidic extractants by basic substances is usually necessary for the purpose of increasing and stabilizing their extraction capacity, and meanwhile inorganic acids are required for both scrubbing and stripping. Thus acids and bases are the main consumed chemicals, and the resulting salts are the main pollutants generated by rare earth separation processes. Currently, due to increasing environmental concerns in China, rare earth solvent extraction separation techniques are being developed to reduce both consumption and emission of chemicals, which is driving the developments on both theories and processes for solvent extraction separations.In the 1970s Prof. Xu et al. developed the Theory of Countercurrent Extraction (Xu, Li, & Yian, 1985). In recent years, the development of novel processes for rare earth separation has moved beyond the earlier theory. One rare earth separation process, the so-called hyperlink process, has been developed in the past decade and proven in industrial practice to dramatically reduce both the consumption and emission of chemicals during multi-component solvent extraction separations, and therefore is now widely used in the Chinese rare earth separation industry (Liao, Wu, Cheng, Wang, Liu, Zhang, & Yan, 2013). The present article will give a brief review of the development of the theory of the hyperlink processes, and the hyperlink separation flowsheets for typical rare earth mines in China designed using the theory.HYPERLINK PROCESSES (LIAO et al., 2013)A flowsheet of multiple-component separation consists of a couple of separation units. The units of a conventional flowsheet separately consume chemicals for saponification and scrubbing and discharge wastewater with resulting salts. In contrast, the separation units in a hyperlink process are hyperlinked and thereby the chemical demands of the whole flowsheet are decreased. For a feed containing t components of A1, A2, …, and At, it has been proved in theory that the separation mode of (AtAt-1…A2)/(At-1At-2…A1) is preferred in a single separation unit. The hyperlinking between separation units can have two forms. The link between two units locating at a same separation level, such as between (A4A3)/(A3A2) and (A3A2)/(A2A1), is known as horizontal hyperlinking. The link between two units located on different levels, such as between (A4A3A2)/(A3A2A1) and (A3A2)/(A2A1), is known as vertical hyperlinking. Both the hyperlinking forms have been proven to save chemical usage and consequently to lower the pollution emissions in industrial practices as well as in theory."

The Cigar Lake ore body is a high-grade uranium deposit situated within water-saturated sandstone. In order to extract the uranium ore remotely, ensuring minimal radiation dose to workers, and also to access the ore from stable ground, the Jet Boring System (JBS) was developed. This method of mining involves drilling a pilot hole up through a frozen ore body and utilizing a high-powered water jet to mine out cavities. During the mining process an ultrasonic sensor will be used to provide feedback to the operator, who is located beneath the ore body, as to the dimensions of the cavity. However, more precise data is required to determine final shape, volume, and location of the cavity for mine planning purposes. Selecting a device that will provide sufficient range data in the challenging environment will be vital to optimizing the mining process. Major issues include fog build up and flying debris during mining, and an environment that is wet, dark, and cold A test cavity has been designed and constructed at the Saskatchewan Research Council (SRC) so that a study comparing three different technologies, as prospective candidates for the survey system, can be conducted. The devices being evaluated include a Senix ultrasonic sensor, an MDL Cavity Auto-Scanning Laser System (C-ALS), and a MESA Time of Flight (ToF) camera. The ultrasonic sensor is known to provide range data in foggy conditions but has low accuracy. The C-ALS has been developed for surveying remote cavities but is expensive and does not provide reliable data in fog. The ToF camera provides a high volume of data in a short time period, with potential to provide accurate information in extreme conditions, but has not been tested in a mine cavity application. Iterative closest point (ICP) registration is applied in an attempt to create a 3D point cloud from the scan data and to also compute rotation and translation of the ToF camera. This paper presents an overview of the challenges involved in conducting a survey within a JBS mined cavity, the analysis used to determine the suitability of each device, and the data collected from the test cavity.

"THE MAYO AREA was prospected as early as 1887. The first major activity started in 1898, when the Stewart River and its tributaries were examined for placer deposits, and in succeeding years the district became a small producer of placer gold. The first discovery of the lead-zinc-silver mineralization which has become the main interest of the district occurred in 1906, when a vein was found in the canyon of Galena Creek on the northwest slope of Galena Hill. This deposit was later known as the Silver King mine. In 1919 further discoveries were made on Keno Hill, approximately 15 miles east of the Silver King, the most important being the No.9 vein. Directly or indirectly, these finds are attributable to the search for placer gold, as galena was frequently found in the stream gravels.The 1919 Keno Hill discoveries were acquired by Yukon Gold Co. and operated through a subsidiary, Keno Hill Ltd., from 1920 to 1923. Most of the production came from No.9 vein. In 1921 Treadwell Yukon Corporation entered the field and acquired the Ladue mine. This company continued to operate for 21 years. It acquired in succession the Ladue, Sadie, Friendship, Lucky Queen, Elsa, Silver King, and Calumet mines. Its record of successful operations is very largely the achievement of the late Livingston Wernecke. Under his direction, the Treadwell Yukon Corp. produced metals with a gross value in excess of $21,000,000, in the face of greater transportation problems than exist today and with considerably lower metal prices.Treadwell Yukon ceased operations in 1942. Its entire assets were acquired in 1946 by United Keno Hill Mines Ltd., which has substantially increased the original holdings. It has drawn the bulk of its production from the Hector mine, adjacent to the Calumet. The Hector was not developed by Treadwell Yukon because of legal disputes among the vendors. It has proven to be the largest deposit yet discovered in the district."

"This paper describes the use of terrain and soil information in the planning of mine developments, particularly in satisfying many of the existing provincial regulatory requirements. It is also noted that, if properly used, this will provide a solid data base for cost-efficient and environmentally acceptable land use.IntroductionIn planning the development or expansion of a new or existing mine, engineering alternatives are judged on many factors, one of which is the environmental influence. Ecological investigations, ensuring consideration of a rational approach to managing land use and environmental impacts, should be carried out prior to a final decision being made on mine development. The Pit Slope Manual (CANMET, 1976) suggests that both baseline aquatic and terrestrial data be collected and interpreted in such pre-mining surveys. In British Columbia, planning procedures now exist which incorporate biophysical studies to help identify, assess and manage major environmental impacts associated with mine development.Methods outlined in the Guidelines for Coal Development (E.L.U.C., 1976) have been successfully applied in recent years. Following this example, the Inspection and Engineering Division of the B.C. Mineral Resources Branch prepared guidelines to help expedite the development of new base metal mines (Procedures for Obtaining Approval for Metal Mine Development; Ministry of Energy, Mines and PetroleumResources, 1979).The metal-mine guidelines require the proponent of a new mine development project to prepare a two-stage assessment proposal which systematically moves from a preliminary feasibility study (Stage I) to a final project design (Stage II), including application for regulatory approvals. One purpose of the Stage I report is to provide a description of the existing environmental conditions that could be affected by the proposed development. A preliminary environmental impact assessment should also be reported. The Stage II report will contain detailed assessment and management of environmental impacts."

Efficient separation of minerals is the essence of mineral processing. Separation of hexagonal pyrrhotite in processing of Ni-Cu sulphide ores was investigated together with particle size effects with respect to selective flotation recovery of pentlandite and nickel. The recovery by size response was compared for sodium metabisulphite (SMBS), triethylenetetramine (TETA) and their combinations with amyl xanthate as a collector. The pyrrhotite recovery for all sizes was lower than that of pentlandite for the blank case as well as individual cases with SMBS and TETA. For pyrrhotite, the recovery by size relations in the case of individual uses of reagents were mainly determined by recovery losses at coarser size range (>74 um), which occurs at a coarser size for pentlandite (>212 um). The combined use of SMBS and TETA, and the associated synergistic effect very significantly knocked down the pyrrhotite recovery to less than 7% that was a maximum for the –10 um (attributable to hydraulic entrainment). High recovery of pentlandite in a wide range of intermediate sizes and drastically low recovery of pyrrhotite resulted in a very efficient separation of pentlandite from pyrrhotite in all sizes. Separation of this mineral is discussed in relation to fundamental functionality of the reagents used.

SHORTLY after the commencement of operations at the Sullivan concentrator, the use of a pilot table was instituted in order to present a visual control of various products by showing the amount of galena still present in the tailing from several stages of flotation. Among the products so treated, the final tailing was later included. It was sratifying to note that very little free galena was escaping, but a fine streak o a whitish mineral appeared at the concentrate zone. This mineral was identified as cassiterite. The amount was small and the newly recognized component in an already complex ore was considered primarily as of academic interest. However, the problem of recovering a usable metal was intriguing and, as opportunity presented itself in temporary lulls in research on Sullivan and other ores, the concentration of tin was a useful 'bit of knitting' to go on with. It was recognized from the start that the bulk of the mill tailing would have to be floated and the residue subjected to gravity treatment. Since one of the predominating features of Sullivan concentration operation has been the necessity of fine grinding, the problem of gravity concentration was thereby intensified. Several batch runs were made, and sufficient pulp was treated to produce about one ton of final tin concentrate assaying 67 percent tin. The overall recovery was under 30 percent and the estimated profit at full tonnage was only marginal. Testing was resumed several years later, when the price of tin again appeared attractive, in an attempt to develop a more compact plant with better recovery of tin. The weakness of the original plan of concentration was the large number of tables required to treat a feed so low in tin.

The study of leached outcrops as an aid in determining the character of mineralization beneath the surface is in its infancy. Practically all the work on this subject up to the present has been applied to the 'porphyry' copper deposits of the southwestern United States. Some work has been done also on the zinc-lead solid sulphide deposits of the western United States. The question has been asked, "Can this study be applied, and would it have any practical application, in northern Manitoba?" When one realizes the size of the unprospected territory in this Province and the consequent need for a cheap and rapid method of interpreting the countless outcrops which occur in order to discriminate between valueless iron sulphides and valuable sulphides of the base metals, it is readily seen that the study is of great value if it can be applied with a reasonable degree of surety. Augustus Locke, well known economic geologist of the southwestern United States and a pioneer in the study of leached outcrops of disseminated copper ore, has written much on the subject. Messrs. Blanchard and Boswell in a series of articles have dealt with the leached outcrops derived from lead and zinc sulphides in the western United States. Since this paper is essentially a comparison between the leached outcrops of the southwestern United States and those of northern Manitoba with the purpose of testing the adaptability of the study in this Province, an outline of the criteria used in the southwest will be of value to the reader.
