"Wetting theory is one of the basic theories of flotation. The effects of concentrations, carbon chain length and pH values of saturated fatty acid collectors (lauric acid, myristic acid, palmitic acid and stearic acid) on the surface wettability of collophanite and dolomite were investigated by measuring the contact angle with dynamic captive-bubble technique and calculating adhesion work of bubble-mineral. The results show that the contact angles both of collophanite and dolomite are higher with enhancement of hydrophobicity when pH value of 5~9. The contact angles both of collophanite and dolomite are reduced with improvement of surface hydrophilicity. When strong acid pH value of 2~4 or strong alkaline pH value of 10~13. The reasons for this are that the fatty acids mainly exist with insoluble RCOOH molecules in strong acid condition, and competitive adsorption of OH- and RCOO- in the mineral surface is formed in strong alkaline condition. With the increase of the collector concentration, the contact angles of the collophanite and the dolomite all first increase then decrease. The formation of hydrophilic micelles results in the decreasing of contact angles and enhancement of surface hydrophilicity opposite when the collector concentration exceeds CMC. The contact angles of the collophanite and dolomite and the WSG of the bubble adhesion increase, the hydrophobicity enhance with the increasing of carbon chains of saturated fatty acid from 12 to 18. The variation tendency for the adsorption quantity of collectors and floatability of collophanite and dolomite are in line with the change trend of contact angle basically. It shows that the wettability of solid-liquid-gas interface can be well characterized by the dynamic captive-bubble technique.INTRODUCTIONPhosphorite resources are the main raw material for producing phosphate fertilizer and producing phosphoric acid (Cao et al.,2005), which is an important strategic mineral resource. The useful minerals in calcareous-magnesium phosphate ore are collophanite, and the main gangue minerals are dolomite (SISH et al.,2003). The lattice ions of the phosphorite and dolomite are both Ca2+, their similar surface properties and similar floatability are the main reason for the flotation of calcareous-magnesium phosphate ore difficultly (Fang et al.,2011). Usually, fatty acid collectors are used for the flotation of calcareous-magnesium phosphate ore under acidic conditions by reversing flotation method to remove dolomite (ABOUZEID et al.,2009), or direct flotation is used to gather collophanite in the alkaline conditions (Gong et al.,2017). The flotation behavior of collophanite and dolomite affects the indexes of concentrate and flotation efficiency directly. Therefore, it is necessary to study the action mechanism and the flotation method of the collector with the phosphate rock and dolomite respectively (Moudgil et al.,1988; Hanna, et al.,1990)."

O objetivo deste trabalho é estudar o efeito do recobrimento de níquel-nióbio por eletrodeposição na resistência à fadiga de um aço carbono SAE 1020. Os corpos de prova para os ensaios de fadiga foram extraídos de barras de diâmetro igual a 7,94 mm (5/16’’). Os ensaios de fadiga foram realizados por flexão rotativa com carregamento em balanço. Foi empregada uma velocidade de rotação de aproximadamente 1500rpm. Foram realizados ensaios de dureza do aço e da camada depositada de Ni-Nb. Análises microestruturais do aço e das fraturas de fadiga foram realizadas através de microscopia eletrônica de varredura (MEV). Os ensaios de fadiga foram realizados de forma a se obter curvas S-N (curvas de Whöler). Foram realizados três ensaios para cada carregamento. Foi observado que o recobrimento de Ni-Nb proporcionou tendência ao aumento do limite de resistência à fadiga do aço.

Anglo American Chile has been doing copper concentrate leaching studies at the laboratory and small pilot plant scale since 1992. Among the processes evaluated are bacterial leaching and pressure leaching using Mantos Blancos, Salobo Project and Quellaveco Project concentrates. Late in the nineties, it was decided to focus the research on pressure leaching, either medium or total pressure oxidation. Preliminary scouting tests were run with Mantos Blancos concentrate samples during 2000, which were repeated during 2003 together with samples of Los Bronces and El Soldado concentrates, in order to define the most suitable concentrate for running a pilot plant campaign at AARL, which was carried out in two campaigns, a first one from November 2003 through January 2004 and a second one during April 2004. Mantos Blancos was the selected concentrate and the laboratory and pilot plant results are discussed in this paper together with some preliminary economic estimates.

Accidents involving powered haulage and mobile equipment such as haul trucks often account for the greatest number of fatalities in the mining industry each year. Despite previous analyses that have identified root causes and other contributing factors, there is still a need to better understand the events leading up to these types of accidents, what lessons may be learned, and what strategies can be employed to prevent fatal accidents from occurring. This study examines Naturalistic Decision Making (NDM) using the critical decision method (CDM). The CDM is a retrospective interview approach used to explore timelimited, high-stakes, decision-making. In this study the CDM is used to obtain more information about what happens prior to, during, and after a potentially fatal situation such as a near-miss event, loss of control, or minor accident involving equipment damage. Researchers captured firsthand accounts from 21 haul truck operators involved in near-miss events from mine sites of various sizes and commodities throughout the United States. These accounts provide rich and detailed narratives from the perspective of haul truck operators themselves and reveal insights into what decisions haul truck operators make, what sensory cues they perceive, and what strategies they employ during challenging and non-routine situations. Decision-related themes that emerged from the data are presented and discussed. These results, along with potential solutions offered by study participants, can help to inform future research, raise awareness about hidden hazards, and build more creative interventions and realistic training scenarios for use by the industry to address haul truck safety issues.

There are well recognized procedures for determining the various tensile, fatigue, and other mechanical properties of the common structural materials. This makes it possible for engineers to design structures of various materials which have adequate initial strength to stand the stresses to which they are subjected in service. There is also considerable general information about protective measures suitable for protecting the usual structural materials from the effects of ordinary environments. However, often insufficient quantitative information is available on the combined effects of stress and corrosion to permit the designer satisfactorily to appraise the structure from the stress-corrosion standpoint. This situation is further complicated by the fact that the stresses causing stress¬corrosion failures are usually not the design stresses but rather the residual forming and assembly stresses which are generally of unknown magnitudes. Thus, tests which will rapidly evaluate the susceptibility of materials to stress-cor¬rosion failures are extremely useful. Of particular value are tests which can be applied to built-up structures as well as to simple specimens, since, as mentioned above, residual stresses often are caused by fabricating procedures and assembly operations. As fibras de bambu são ricas em celulose, hemicelulose e lignina. Elas apresentam altos módulos de elasticidade e alta resistência mecânica, o que as tornam bastante eficazes como reforço em compósitos. Com o intuito de aprimorar as propriedades mecânicas de materiais poliméricos em escalas diminutas, tem-se buscado a aplicação desses reforços em sua forma nano. A extração de nanocelulose tem sido bastante estudada e, em nosso trabalho, foram feitas adaptações de métodos que mostraram-se mais eficazes. Os nanowhiskers a base de bambu foram obtidos por hidrólise ácida a 64%, após tratamento químico prévio de limpeza e branqueamento. Os materiais obtidos foram então caracterizados por FTIR, TG, DTG e tamanho de partícula por Potencial Zeta, onde seus resultados indicaram que o método de produção utilizado foi eficaz.

The yttl-irtm-nickel system has been investigated by metallo-graphic, thermal ard X-ray methods. There are nine intermetal-lic compounds present: Y3Ni, Y3Ni,, YNi,, YNi,, Y,Ni,, YNi,, and Y,Nil, which rodergo peritectic decomposition and YNi and YNi, which melt congruently. There are eutectics at 34.8, 57.5 and 93.3 at pct Ni which melt at 805°, 950 and 1285 C, respectively. Crystallographic data are given for YNi, YNi,, YNi,, YNi5and Y,Ni,. The terminal solid solubility is low. In recent work by Fisher and Fullhart' in which yttrium crucibles to be used for containers of uranium-chromium eutectic were clad with a high nickel steel, a low melting phase formed where the yttrium was in contact with the steel. To investigate the cause of this phenomenon, Daane, et al. made a survey study of yttrium systems with chromium, manganese, iron, and nickel and found an 18 wt pct Ni (weight percent) alloy to melt at approximately 950°C. voge13 in a study of the systems of cerium, lanthanum, and praseodymium with nickel found six compounds of the same formula in each system, i.e., R3Ni, RNi, RNiz, RNi3, RNi4, and RNi5. Since there is a great similarity between yttrium and the rare earths, compound formation was likely to occur also in the yttrium-nickel system. voge13 observed that the ability of transition metals to form compounds with the rare earths diminishes in the order nickel, cobalt, and iron while no compounds are formed with manganese, chromium, and titanium. Available data on yttrium systems with these elements indicate similar behavior, except that a slightly greater tendency toward compound formation is apparent. Simple eutectics with limited solid solubility have been found in the yttrium-titanium4 and yttrium-chromium5 systems, but at least one compound is present in the yttrium-manganese system.' In the case of yttrium-iron, at least three compounds are present,5 while only two are present in the cerium-iron,' and no compounds are present in the lanthanum-iron5 system. On the basis of both the trend in the alloying behavior of yttrium and rare-earth metals with the first transition series metals and the large number of compounds in the cerium-nickel system, one might expect six or more compounds to form in the nickel-yttrium system. A consideration of Hume-Rothery's rules of alloying based on size factor, electronegati-vity, and valence predicted low terminal solid solubility and possible compound formation. Tiras e chapas de cobre e suas ligas possuem excelentes propriedades térmicas, elétricas e mecânicas simultaneamente e por isso podem ser utilizadas na fabricação de inúmeros produtos através de processos de conformação. Determinadas características devem ser analisadas na chapa antes mesmo do processo de manufatura, visando eliminar possíveis falhas durante as etapas de produção. Especificamente para o processo de repuxo profundo, faz-se necessário avaliar a possível formação de orelha e o possível afinamento da espessura da chapa durante a conformação. Sendo assim, o levantamento dos coeficientes de anisotropia planar ?r e o de anisotropia normal r são essenciais para se obter bons resultados nos processos de conformação. O presente estudo tem como objetivo avaliar a influência da deformação (e) na obtenção dos coeficientes ?r e r na liga UNS C22000, utilizada especificamente para a produção de projéteis A norma ASTM E 517 que apresenta a metodologia para se determinar esses coeficientes não especifica claramente qual e a ser utilizada. Os resultados alcançados não demonstram diferenças significativas com relação a e utilizada nos ensaios, ou seja, os coeficientes obtidos utilizando 0,10, 0,15 e 0,20 de deformação são os mesmos.

The Minas-Rio industrial complex uses a pipeline with extension of 529 Km to transport the iron ore concentrate to the filtering industrial complex and exporting port. Since project phase, bench lab tests have provided important information for the pumped slurry rheology control. Based in these tests results was possible to verify the effects of slurry stability, rheology controller type and particle size distribution in the regrinded concentrate yield stress and relative viscosity. Controlling some characteristics of pumped slurry, such as particle size distribution, pH and solids concentration guaranteed to achieve the necessary rheology properties for its safe pumping through pipeline and resulted in a performance improvement over the years.

"Magnetic seeding co-agglomeration, i.e. adding magnetic seeds, organic depressant (such as the starch), and pre-magnetization for co-agglomeration, was applied in the reverse flotation for hematite ore slimes. Samples of the hematite ore slimes and the pure hematite fines were investigated by the co-agglomeration, respectively. Flotation tests suggest that the depressing effect of starch in the flotation was further enhanced with the addition of magnetic seeds and the pre-magnetization. Following the laser size analysis and flotation tests, TOC adsorption analysis, VSM, surface charge measurement, AFM, FTIR study, and SEM imaging have been utilized to understand the depressing mechanism. Based on the results it was demonstrated that with the addition of magnetic seeds and the low field pre-magnetization, the adsorption of starch onto hematite minerals was strengthened through the magnetic seeding co-agglomeration. The co-agglomeration improved the flotation performance by introducing the magnetic interactions and acting the bridging adsorption of starch between fine hematite and magnetic seeds in a suspension, and then resulting in an intensified coverage of the starch onto hematite particles and positive action in the coagglomeration under the pre-magnetization.INTRODUCTIONFlotation is undoubtedly the most important and versatile mineral processing technique, and both its use and application are continually being expanded to treat greater tonnages and to cover new area. However, its influence was limited to a relatively narrow particle size range of 5–300 µm (Wills and Napier-Munn, 2006). The main reason behind this limitation lies in that fine particles have high specific surface area, so need relatively high dosage of reagents (collectors or depressants), and exhibit poor flotation performance while intermediate or properly-sized particles produce high flotation kinetics and need low consumption of reagents. In order to increase the recovery of fine particles, quite a few of flotation techniques have been investigated. Most of them are based on particle aggregation, namely, by enlarging the apparent particle size, such as carrier flotation (Valderrama and Rubio, 1998; Zhu et al., 2009), shear flocculation (Duzyola and Ozkan, 2010; Yin et al., 2011), selective polymer flocculation (Rubio et al., 2007; Song et al., 2012; Ng et al., 2015), oil agglomeration (Laskowski and Lopez- Vladivieso, 2004; Forbes, 2011), temperature responsive polymer flocculation flotation (Forbes et al, 2011), and etc. However, these techniques above-mentioned are mainly studied for the direct flotation of fine minerals, and most of these techniques have not found applications for iron ore slimes especially recovered by the reverse cationic or anionic flotation."

The heats of formation of lithium chloride and lithium oxalate were determined with the aid of a Bureau-developed, glass Dewar-type solution calorimeter which uses thermistors as its temperature sensing element. Values obtained at 298.15° K were -98.38 ± 0.54 kcal/mole for lithium chloride and -329.02 ± 0.79 kcal/mole for lithium oxalate, using graphite as the standard state for carbon.

A model of solid oxide fuel cell AC impedance behaviour has been developed and is used to simulate the frequency response of a single cell with and without mechanical damage. The results indicate that the presence of mechanically induced damage within the components of a solid oxide fuel cell can be detected by comparing the frequency response of the undamaged cell with that of a cell in which in-plane cracking or delamination has occurred. The presence of such defects manifests itself as a new semicircle in the Nyquist impedance diagram of the full cell. A parametric study reveals the resolution capabilities of the method in terms of the geometrical characteristics of the defects.

Explores the characters of the valleriite?s surface, studys on the flow-sheet of flotat valleriite and copper-sulphur separated. In neutral mine pulp, adopt of cationic collector to flotat valleriite, adopt of hyposulphite to depressant pyrite in low alkaline pulp can advance the recovery of copper to 5.06%.

This report presents nearly all structural data available from explosion tests of 20-psi mine ventilation seals and concrete-block ventilation stoppings that were conducted by the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health during 1997?2008. Although the seals tested were designed to meet the former federal 20-psi pressure design standard, the structural information contained herein on these seal tests will facilitate the analysis and design of coal mine seals that meet the new explosion pressure design criteria of 50 and 120 psi as set forth in the Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA)?s final rule on ?Sealing of Abandoned Areas.? The seal testing data are organized into six broad categories of seal structures based on the materials used and the construction method for those 20-psi seals: 1. Concretelike materials with steel reinforcement and reinforcement bar anchorage to rock 2. Pumpable cementitious materials of varying compressive strengths with no steel reinforcement and no hitching 3. Articulated structures such as solid-concrete-block seals and ventilation stoppings made of solid and hollow-core concrete blocks 4. Polymer and aggregate materials without hitching 5. Wood-crib-block seals with or without hitching 6. Articulated structures such as lightweight blocks with or without hitching This summary contains data on 52 different structures in the above categories?44 seals and 8 ventilation stoppings. The structural data sets include the applied loading on the tested seal represented by a pressure-time curve and, when available, the measured seal response represented by a displacement-time curve. The structural data sets enable the calibration and verification of numerical models of seal behavior at the 20-psi level, which may then facilitate future structural analyses of seal designs for the new 50- and 120-psi explosion pressure design criteria.

With blasting, all far-field phenomena including, but not limited to, stress wave propagation, fracture, vibration and muck pile formation are intrinsically and irrevocably dependent upon near-field phenomena or mechanisms that we describe using physics-based mathematics typically transcribed into computer codes. The energetics involved in such near- to far-field transitions are not fundamentally relevant as they are simply progenitors of these processes.The notion of explosive energy as a descriptor for explosive or blasting performance is a case in point. These energies, which are generally used in blasting tables, are almost exclusively based on ideal detonation theory alone and do not include the influence of the rock, charge diameter, blasthole length and the late-time dynamic expansion that can be predicted using codes based on non-ideal detonation theory.With decoupled charges in presplits for example, the pressure drop between the charge and the blasthole wall can be simply described to first order using the energy relationship associated with adiabatic expansion. The Hopper-Feeder-Bolter (HFB) is a prototype multifunctional machine designed to improve productivity by minimizing continuous miner place changes. It is designed primarily to work beside a two-pass continuous miner, bolting on one side and then place changing to bolt the other side while simultaneously providing a surge car and lump breaker located directly behind the continuous miner. Surface testing was conducted at the Bureau of Mines Mine Equipment Test Facility (METF) to evaluate overall system performance and reliability. Tests were conducted to evaluate place changing, tramming, lump breaking, roof bolting, drawbar pull, conveying, temporary roof-support (TRS) capacity, lighting, and noise. Surface test results indicate the HFB is ready to be tested and evaluated underground in a production mode.

The Dos Pobres Mine is a copper oxide heap-leach operation located near Safford, AZ. Mine production is 163 kt/d (180,000 stpd) with a stripping ratio of 2:1. During the startup phase of the mine, the required fragmentation size was easy to achieve as the ore was highly weathered and fractured near the surface. As the mine depth increased, the proper fragmentation size became harder to achieve due to less weathering and different rock types. Because copper recovery increases as crusher product size decreases, achieving the appropriate product size at the crusher is the operating priority. The engineering department began a project to improve fragmentation through blasting and thus increase throughput in the crushing system. It soon became clear that input from other departments was going to be required to make this a safe and economical project. Therefore, the crush and convey and ore control departments worked together to evaluate all available data on blast patterns and explosive loads and tracked performance and results. Using image analysis, drill energy index and databases, improved fragmentation size has been achieved and results have been verified while controlling costs.

INTRODUCTION Insofar as I am aware, the term rock mechanics was not in the English dictionary in 1930 when I started my graduate program at West Virginia University. Hence, I never thought that I was undertaking studies in rock mechanics when I undertook to write a thesis on the physical properties of West Virginia coal. In this case, the subject was primarily concerned with the compressive strength of coal, the elasticity of the coal, the physical weathering properties of the coal and its friability. These days investigations of rocks pertaining to such properties are included in the term "rock mechanics". Other than this aspect, the principle interest in this part of my program was that I became interested in the strength of coal from the standpoint of structural purposes, and also became cognizant of its elastic properties as well as its energy storing properties. This research also tied in with a remark that Professor Lawall made in a Mining Methods class in 1928 when he remarked that a peculiar thing was happening in the southern part of West Virginia, namely, in the Pocahontas coal field. His remarks were to the effect that pillars were blowing up in the mines and when asked why he replied the cause was not known. The failure of three-inch coal specimens, especially those in stronger coal, in non-hydraulic actuated testing machines was reminiscent of his description of those pillar bursts or bumps.

Since the Buffalo Creek incident in February, 1972, Federal and state environmental agencies have had the pressure on the coal industry in the Appalachian area to close the coal processing plant water circuits. In an attempt to comply with this requirement, Eastern .Associated Coal Corp. decided to install a vacuum disc filter system at its Kopperston plant to eliminate the tailings pond and reduce the amount of plant make-up water. It was recognized at the time that the plant static thickener tailings would be a very difficult slurry to dewater because of its unusually high clay content. The following is a case history of the Kopperston installation and the refinements Eastern has made in its vacuum disc filter operation to increase efficiency.

This paper presents sulfur isotope data obtained for the deposits and country rocks of the Bailadores and Aroa Mining District, Venezuela. The study is a part of an extensive geochemical investigation of the mineralized belts that has as their aim the elucidation of the genesis of ores. The Bailadores deposits are located at about 600 Km. west-southwest of Caracas, or about 10 Km. southeast of the Town of Bailadores, Merida State (Fig. 1). The mine concession is held by the Ministry of Mines and Hydrocarbons (De Lima I, De Lima II and La Cascade areas). In a straight distance the mine is about 90 Km. southwest of Merida, the capital of Mérida State. From Mérida to Bailadores, through La Victoria and Tovar, it takes 3 hour by car. From Bailadores to the mine site it is about 40 minutes by jeep. The Aroa deposits are located at 4 Km. east of Aroa Village, Yaracuy State, about 220 Km. west of Caracas. It is 83 Km. from San Felipe, the capital of Yaracuy State to the mine (Fig.2). The mine is about 600 m above sea level, situated on the northern foot of the E-W trending Andes. The topography of the mine are shows a mature stage and is somewhat rugged. As the climate is warm and humid, the area is thicky covered with jungle.
