Para ello, se cita el ejemplo del acarreo de desmonte y mineral de la Estación de Carguío H-2 del Nv. 2430 de la Rampa RNG 92442 @ -15% hacia el echadero de desmonte y la Tolva de Mineral de la Planta Concentradora en superficie Nv. 2765, donde el sistema de acarreo fue modelado usando simulación, la cual fue utilizada para ver la rentabilidad del sistema scooptram-volquete.

"A four-inch compound water cyclone (CWC) was tested to evaluate its gold recovery characteristics when processing -4.8 mm run-or-pit, placer material. Neutron activated placer gold particles (840 to 37 microns) were used as radiotracers (/98Au) in a closed circuit ewe test loop to determine concentrator recovery; a procedure believed unique to this study. The effect on gold recovery of gold size and shape, feed pulp density, feed pressure, vortex finder clearance (VFC), ewe cone type, top-size of the feed solids, presence or absence of heavy minerals in the feed, and the quantity of-37 micron slimes in the feed was investigated in over 300 tests.CWC concentration ratio and the top-size of the underflow solids were both affected by cone type, VFC, and feed pressure. Gold recovery was significantly affected by gold size, gold shape, and concentration ratio. These effects are complex, because significant size-concentration ratio and size-shape interactions exist. Radiotracer techniques showed gold particles had a residence time within the ewe of approximately one second. This study suggests ewe gold recovery is a concentration. This work suggests ewe gold recovery is a function of particle size and shape, and the flow rate through the cyclone. CWC cone ""bed density"" is considered important only as a thin, protective layer, which shields coarser gold particles from the entraining currents and facilitates their movement through the CWC.IntroductionCompound water cyclones (CWC), or automedium cyclones, are enhanced gravity concentrators for the beneficiation for slurries of sand, coal, and ground ore (Fig. 1). They are called compound water cyclones because of the compound slopes of their basal cones (Fig. 2) and are operated to suppress classification phenomena in favour of gravity concentration effects. The compound water cyclone is not a new wet concentrator. It was developed in the late 1950s by Dr. Jan Visman through research sponsored by Canada's Department of Energy, Mines, and Resources. Since that time, it has become a common unit in coal washeries for cleaning fine coal. CWCs and other versions of concentrating cyclones have also shown promise for heavy minerals and precious metals recovery."

The behaviour of thiourea, animal glue and chloride ions in the electro¬lysis of copper has been investigated by various different electrochemical experiments, i.e. polarization curves with stationary copper electrodes, long-time galvanostatic electrolyses and Hull cell experiments. Polarization curves with stationary copper electrodes show that animal glue has a polarizative effect on the deposition potential. Small thiourea contents affect depolarizatively when high concentrations retard the copper deposition. The microstructures of the deposited copper after the long-time electrolyses show that animal glue favours a basis oriented deposition structure. With thiourea the field orientated structure was evident. It was also observed that the deposited structure depended much on the grain structure of the starter sheet. The chloride ion concentration has a drastic effect on. the crystal size of the deposited copper as it was found out in Hull cell tests. Chloride ions flattened the the crystals and the deposition became smoother when the chloride ions were added. The cathode copper quality is discussed according to the literature. Special attention is paid on the codeposition of thiourea and the origin of sulphur impurities in copper cathodes.

Based on full investigation of the characteristic of sphalerite in the residue obtained from cyanidation leaching process and the study of the mechanism of the interaction between flotation reagents and sphalerite with the aid of electrochemical analysis, the reagent named YO was developed for eliminating the depression effect of CN- on sphalerite and reducing the dosage of CuSO4. The achievements have been used in commercial production for the treatment of the cyanidation residue to recover the zinc minerals, obtaining a zinc concentrate with grade of 56.49% Zn and recovery of 86.63% Zn.

Nowadays, the HPGR (high-pressure grinding rolls) is an intermediate step between filtering and balling in the most modern iron ore pelletizing operation. The operation debottlenecks filtering process and reduces pressure over the typical milling process to control particle size to the balling. The present study evaluated aspects of microwave application to the iron ore concentrate fed to HPGR in a bench scale unit. Iron ore concentrate was irradiated varying the microwave exposure time and grinding efficiency was evaluated. The moisture influence in the HPGR efficiency was also assessed. The pellet feed blaine surface area (BSA) improved by 300 cm2/g and % < 325# fraction by 3%. Scanning electron microscope (SEM) images show the formation of micro-cracks onto the particle surface induced by microwave; the effect observed helped improve the milling process performance, in addition to the moisture reduction observed due to the temperature increase.

Although a general relationship exists between the two criteria used to measure sharpness of separation -error area and probable error -they sometimes give quite different appraisals of a particular washing operation. Error area takes into account how the entire raw coal was treated, whereas probable error reflects only how the material of intermediate density was separated, ignoring completely the recovery of clean coal and the rejection of heavy impurity. Error area is thus more reliable for general use. In heavy-medium cleaning, sharpness of separation decreases with increase in separating density, but ordinarily the change is not great enough to affect the yield and ash content of washed coal measurably. Therefore, distribution curves for heavy-medium units can be transposed from one separating density to another, at least in the range of separating densities ordinarily used in the United States.

Historically, as for most reagents used in flotation, the wide-spread use of dialkyl dithiophosphinates as collectors in practical applications has preceded a detailed scientific understanding of how they work. Dialkyl dithiophosphinates are a technologically and commercially important class of collectors used in the flotation processing of Cu-Au, complex polymetallic, and precious metal ores. Plant usage has demonstrated that dithiophosphinates exhibit higher selectivity and flotation rates for Cu sulfides, galena, and precious metal values in the presence of other gangue sulfides, than the traditionally used collectors such as dialkyl dithiophosphates and xanthates. They also have an attractive health, safety, and environmental (HSE) profile. Although dithiophosphinates received little attention in the past in the flotation research community, recently, there has been significant interest in this chemistry, and numerous studies have been conducted to understand the fundamental interactions of dithiophosphinates with several base metal sulfides and precious metals. A critical overview of fundamental studies, laboratory ore flotation, and plant practice of dithiophosphinates is given in this paper. The findings from these studies are rationalized and explained by drawing on concepts and insights from coordination chemistry. A comparison between the interactions with various minerals and metals of dithiophosphinate and dithiophosphate analogues brings out some of the subtleties that seemingly minor changes in collector chemistry can make. The critical overview and analysis given here is useful in identifying gaps in knowledge regarding this important class of compounds. This in turn can provide a basis for the design of studies to advance our understanding of dithiophosphinate flotation performance.

El presente trabajo describe el proceso de optimización metalúrgica de la planta concentradora “La Inmaculada” de la U.P. “El Cofre en Puno, dado que la mina no contaba con reserva suficiente para abastecer a la planta concentradora. Para ello, se ha dejado de realizar el blending de los minerales oxidados, mixtos y sulfurados y ahora se efectúan los tratamientos metalúrgicos en forma independiente para cada tipo de mineral (sulfurado, mixto y oxidado). Así también, se mejoró la calidad del producto final de molienda del orden y se ha modificado el reporte del balance metalúrgico diario de la planta concentradora, efectuando los balances por cada turno de operación, con indicación de controles de molienda, suma de recuperaciones y recuperación económica; representando este último es un índice indispensable y primordial que nos indica la eficiencia final económica con el que estamos operando.

The U.S. Bureau of Mines is conducting research on cable bolt ground supports to assess their material and support properties, to provide design criteria for using cable bolt supports as roof control systems under various types of underground mining conditions, and to provide a mathematical model of cable bolt support systems. Part 1 describes laboratory studies of the support properties of cable bolts made of conventional steel cables and provides recommendations on such topics as the use of thick grouts, selection of breather tubes, and reduction of water bleeding in cement-based grouts. The studies evaluated both single and double cables; effects of different embedment lengths, water-cement ratios, and grout curing temperatures on support strength; effects of use or nonuse of breather tubes; pumpability and water-bleeding properties of grouts; and the strength properties of sand-cement grouts. Part 2 will cover the strength characteristics of birdcage cable bolt supports, epoxy-coated cables, and cables with steel buttons attached.

To produce high quality castings, one must monitor the melt quality by evaluating such parameters as the grain refinement and silicon inoculation and modification during the production of the commercial casting. Thermal analysis is a tool one can use for both monitoring and providing input to the process control of the operation. The current technique of performing thermal analysis in commercial foundries is to pour a relatively small quantity of the molten aluminum alloy into a sampling cup and to then acquire the cooling curve. This approach is somewhat simplistic in that one has limited control of the cooling rate and hence the solidification rate of the sample. Moreover, this process requires a fair amount of user intervention and effort. In the past, studies have been conducted in an attempt to develop a system for conducting thermal analysis in-situ. In a study at McGill University, an alkali based heat pipe system was developed for conducting thermal analysis in-situ. While the concept was deemed as very desirable, the complexity of the equipment and procedure was a substantial negative component. In order to improve the technique of accomplishing real-time thermal analysis with an in-situ probe, a new method that is based on McGill heat pipe technology was developed. In the new system, a controllable and flexible water based heat pipe probe is used to solidify a small quantity of metal while residing in the melt. The solidified aluminum is remelted after completing the thermal analysis. This is a key feature of the probe. It resides permanently in the melt yet it is able to both solidify a sample of the melt and then to subsequently remelt it. Various solidification rates encountered in commercial castings are attainable by adjusting the heat extraction rate of the unit.

The Bureau of Mines has researched the utilization of mining and pro-cessing wastes as raw materials for the production of glass-ceramic pipe. Characterization of various wastes as to occurrence and chemical composition is reported. A computer program was developed and used to identify waste materials and mixes that would result in glass melts from which glass-ceramics could be produced after cooling and subsequent heat treatments. The production of abrasion-resistant pipe from inexpensive and readily available domestic resources could offer an economical substitute for high-alloy steels containing the critical and strategic materials cobalt and chromium.

"In the most iron ore beneficiation plants, reverse flotation is the best method for removing silicate gangues from final iron ore concentrate. Many previous studies show, if the major portion of impurities include quartz minerals, the flotation process is simple, but if iron silicates are dominant, reverse flotation is so complicated and mostly not very effective. In this study which was performed on the Sangan iron ore concentrate, the performance using of reverse flotation and magnetic flotation separator for elimination of silicate gangues from the magnetic iron concentrate was investigated. The operational parameters for reverse flotation are considered as: collector and frother types and dosages and also modifiers. But for magnetic flotation separator parameters were magnetic field intensity as well as overflow and underflow water rates. Results showed that reverse flotation has not a significant effect on the elimination of impurities. Because of the silicate gangues of Sangan concentrate including a mixture of quartz and iron silicates (amphibole, pyroxene and feldspar), so downgrading of the SiO2 content for the flotation concentrate was rather low and only average reduces of 20.60% were possible. But the findings of using magnetic separator was more satisfactory. Results of the weight recovery, iron grade and also SiO2 and S grades of final concentrate were better with magnetic flotation device. So at the best and optimum condition, we could reduce 51.01% of the total silicate (SiO2~ 2.19%) along with 74.66% of sulfur content (S~ 0.076%) and concentrate weight and Fe recoveries of 92.04% and 94.51% respectively, final Fe grade of 68.73%.INTRODUCTION Chemical/traditional flotation is one of the most effective methods for separating valuable particles from waste minerals, which is used in most mineral processing industries. "This paper investigates the effect of driving a group of 52 open-ended Prestressed High Strength Concrete (PHC) piles on an existing highway embankment based on field measurements of excess pore pressure and lateral soil displacement. Excess pore pressure due to pile driving increased with depth and decreased with increasing distance from the pile, influencing a distance of 43 pile diameters. For pile groups, the rate of dissipation of excess pore pressure decreased with increasing depth and averaged 79% in 20 days, during which maximum ultimate bearing capacity was not yet attained. Lateral soil displacement continued to increase for a period of time after the end of pile driving and this could have resulted in significant inclination of piles if pile installation was too quick and pile spacing was too small. Lateral soil displacement due to pile group decreased with decreasing distance to the existing embankment as a result of high soil density produced by the embankment loading. The results also indicate that the effect of pile group installation on the existing embankment is negligible.INTRODUCTIONPile driving can cause excessive lateral displacement of soil and heaving of the ground surface, which may adversely affect nearby structures. In addition, lateral deformation and excess pore water pressure resulting from pile driving can exert lateral pressures and vertical forces on the piles, and impact negatively on the project and its surroundings. Therefore, it is important to evaluate the influence of pile driving on the nearby structures as well as the project itself when expansion works are carried out.Recent years have seen some development in the application of field tests for studying soil disturbance due to piles, and these tests usually involves pore water pressure and lateral soil displacement monitoring during pile driving. Results of field experiments performed by Reese and Seed (1957) in San Francisco Bay Mud with instrumented piles showed that pile installation generated large pore water pressures at the pile surface, with only slight increase at a distance of 15 pile diameters away. The measurements indicated that the increase in pore water pressures can exceed the initial total overburden pressure. Holtz and Lowitz (1965) reported a decrease in undrained shear strength immediately after pile installation, which was largely recovered after full pore pressure dissipation for field measurements within 1.5–2 pile diameters from the pile surface. Hwang et al. (2001) presented results of large scale pile driving tests where maximum excess pore water pressure generated decreased rapidly with increasing distance from pile. The excess pore water pressure became negligible at 15 pile diameters from the pile. Their results also showed that lateral displacement of the ground decreased with increasing distance from the pile. Pestana et al. (2002) carried out full-scale closed ended pile tests in the Young Bay Mud deposit. Higher excess pore pressures were observed for points closer to the pile, which decreased with increasing distance from the pile wall. Exponential decay of excess pore pressure with time was also noted. An 80% dissipation of excess pore pressure was achieved for soils more than one pile diameter away from the pile wall between 50 to 80 days. Lateral deformation generally decreased with increasing distance from pile wall, whilst varying erratically with depth. Bozozuk et al. (1978) reported on soil disturbance due to driving of 116 concrete piles in sensitive marine clays in a construction project. Maximum pore water pressures after pile driving within the group, and 6m (20 pile diameters) from the group were over 35-40% of the total overburden pressures, and the influence of pile driving on pore water pressure at 20m away from the group was very small. The Bureau of Mines has conducted substantial research on the design, construction, and operation of metal and nonmetal tailings ponds. This design guide, like related Bureau publications that preceded it, is produced to assist the industry in the management of mill tailings disposal. It covers the site selection, sampling, laboratory testing, design, construction, operation, and inspection of tailings embankments. The effects of environment, topography, and hydrogeology are also included, and various methods of stability analysis and factors affecting stability are reviewed. Because of the diversity of problems encountered in tailings embankments, specific solutions are not intended. The guide is, however, a useful checklist for designers, operators, and inspectors of this type of structure.

Acceptable working environments in production areas and service openings of Mindola Mine on the Zambian Copperbelt are currently maintained with an air volume of 1000 cu m/s and 5500 kW of installed refrigeration plant. It is planned to open up additional deeper areas of the mine for future production. Temperature problems, due to the increased heat generation from various underground sources are recognized as potential hinderances to efficient production. Findings of research work indicate that the present total heat output of 58,000 kW will inevitably increase by the second five-year period of the deepening program to 52,900 kW and by the fifth five-year period to 63,200 k\V. Estimated WB and DB temperatures, representing the total heat generation in stope faces and development headings during these same periods are predicted to increase to 53.8/40.2 °C and 35.5/42.1 °C respectively. It is assessed that the nominal refrigeration capacity needs to be progressively increased to 9,000 k\V This paper deals with the thermal problems in Mindola Mine, current heat output calculations, future prediction of temperature and heat load in various working areas of the mine with the application of computer programs and interpretation of data in order to find the effective solution for long-term planning of ventilation and air-conditioning.

In order to realize the resource utilization of spent hydrodesulfurization catalyst, a solvent extraction-oxalic acid precipitation process is studied in this paper for efficiently recovering vanadium, nickel, and aluminum from the acid leaching solution of spent hydrodesulfurization catalyst. The process conditions for extracting vanadium with Cyanex 272 and precipitating nickel using oxalic acid as a precipitation agent were explored in detail. The results show that vanadium (IV) in the sulfuric acid medium containing nickel and aluminum was efficiently and selectively extracted by Cyanex 272. After three-stage countercurrent extraction, the extraction efficiency of vanadium was 99.76%, and the co-extraction efficiencies of nickel and aluminum were only 2.47% and 1.87%, respectively. Thermodynamic calculation shows that the extraction of vanadium (IV) from the sulfuric acid medium with Cyanex 272 is an endothermic reaction. The innovative method of oxalic acid precipitation was used to recover nickel from the raffinate, achieving selective extraction of nickel from the solution containing a high concentration of aluminum. The precipitation efficiency of nickel was 98.58%, while that of aluminum was only 0.75% under optimal conditions. The proposed flowsheet for the separation of vanadium, nickel, and aluminum from acid leaching solution may provide a new idea for the comprehensive recovery of valuable metals from spent hydrodesulfurization catalyst.

In the transformation of carbonaceous materials, such as peat, to coals of various grades, the changes are known to be both physical and chemical and the grade of coal finally produced depends on the stage to which alteration proceeded. Those changes, which are frequently spoken of as the results of metamorphism, are due to pressure with accompanying heat and, according to the amount of metamorphism to which the sediments with the included carbonaceous beds have been subjected, there is a gradation from peat to anthracite coal, and even to graphite. The improvement in the quality of the coal as a result of metamorphism is due to an increase of the carbon content of the coal and a corresponding loss of the volatile materials. This rise in the quality of the coal according to the degree of metamorphism is well illustrated by the coals of western Canada. In the Plains area, where the deformation and the attendant metamorphism of the sediments is comparatively small, the coals are lignites, whereas in the mountains, where deformation has been severe, the coals are semi-anthracites. Sub-bituminous and bituminous coals occur in the intervening areas. The same general relationship between the quality of the coal and the degree of metamorphism holds true for the Appalachian basin of the United States, where there is a progressive improvement in the quality of the coals from west to east, that is, from an area of comparatively slight metamorphism to an area of marked deformation in the Appalachian Mountain region. But while it is true that this relationship holds in a general way, it has been found that the improvement in the quality of the coal is not always uniformly progressive, and there may be local variations such that an area containing coal with a carbon content indicating low or medium metamorphism may be surrounded by areas in which the coals are of higher grade. These local variations in many cases can be explained, and they in no way detract from the general rule that, in a region exhibiting a progressive betterment in the quality of the coal from an area of low metamorphism to one of more marked deformation, the quality of the coal, i.e., the amount of fixed carbon in the coal, may be taken as an index of the degree of metamorphism of the coal as well as of the sediments in which it occurs, It has been pointed out (&apos;) that certain coals, such as cannels, are unreliable indicators of the varying degree of metamorphism because of the nature of the material from which such coal was derived. Such coals, however, are not known in western Canada and their behaviour need not here be discussed.
