A pesquisa em questão trata-se do aproveitamento e aplicação da escória de aciaria elétrica, um subproduto residual do processo de refino do aço. A força propulsora para realização deste projeto está associada à utilização do resíduo: a quantidade gerada é maior que a quantidade aproveitada, uma vez que este subproduto tem como limitante de uso o fenômeno de expansão volumétrica que compromete obras de engenharia. No presente estudo, a escória foi micronizada, caracterizada e incorporada em uma matriz polimérica para obtenção de um novo produto com propriedades vedantes. Os artefatos produzidos foram submetidos a vários ensaios mecânicos, químicos e de caracterização conforme requisitado pela norma NBR 15750. Após a análise dos resultados, concluiuse que os compostos constituídos pelo resíduo apresentaram melhores propriedades vedantes que o grupo controle de referência. Além disso, verificaram-se melhores condições de processamento nos compostos com escória de aciaria micronizada. Obteve-se, portanto, um produto ecológico, mais viável economicamente, com propriedades que atendem a uma especificação. Dessa forma, difundiu-se a aplicação do resíduo para outros ramos industriais, agregando a este maior valor comercial, promovendo assim a sustentabilidade por meio da substituição de matérias-primas provenientes de recursos não renováveis pela escória de aciaria elétrica.

O Ex-Tarifário, consiste na importação de material sem similaridade nacional, podendo ser peça, equipamento ou linha de produção, com prazo de validade de um ano, podendo ser prorrogado por mais um ano, com redução significativa no imposto de importação para 2%, gerando uma economia total expressiva, pois os cálculos dos tributos federais são em cascata.

The vapor pressure-temperature relationships for saturated pure liquid nitrogen are calculated by the Strobridge equation using a digital computer. This information is presented in two tables: first) in pressure increments of 0.1 psi from 1.8 to 492.9 psia) and second) in temperature increments of 0.1° from 63.15° to 126.26° K. These tables should facilitate the calibration of temperature-measuring devices over this temperature range.

Neste trabalho buscou-se avaliar o consumo de sucatas com elevador teor de enxofre, em carro torpedo, sem afetar a qualidade final do produto, objetivando a recirculação de um coproduto gerado internamente e aumento do rendimento de gusa distribuído para Aciaria. A sucata em questão é gerada a partir do beneficiamento da escória resultante do processo de raspagem após dessulfuração do ferro gusa em panela (KR) e do procedimento de limpeza dos carros torpedos. Foi avaliada a operacionalidade da adição, riscos envolvidos no processo e redução da geração com reaproveitamento direto no processo. Study of the normal interaction between flotation collectors and the silicates through measurement of the electrokinetic potential carried out by the streaming potential and flotation recovery methods indicates that the interaction is wholly 07 partly of electrostatic origin. In some cases, it partly consists of the chemical affinity of the polar head of the collector for the active surface sites. Reagents composed of a polar head and a paraffinic chain and forming micelles in solution were used as flotation collectors. They are sodium dodecylsulfate (anionic collector) and dode-cylammonium chloride (cationic collector). The adsorption isotherms on biotite of alkylamine chloride having 10 to 18 carbon atoms in their chain all show a sharp change in slope relevant to the condensation of alkylammonium ions into bidimensional phase.1-1 Condensation is possible because of the relative homogeneity of the adsorbing surface and of the very strong lateral binding forces through Van der Waals type bonds in the adsorption layer. The different isotherms are seen to coincide when, instead of the equilibrium concentration, the under-saturation ?µ = kT In C/C, is plotted in abscissa, C representing the concentration of the solution with which the adsorbed layer is in equilibrium and C, the saturation concentration of micelles in solution or. critical micellar concentration. "This paper describes the general layout of the environmental monitoring scheme at Devco 's No. 26 Colliery, including wall face ventilation, fan performance and methane drainage, and then goes on to discuss the sensors, the outstation layout, the surf ace control room and the protection of the system.IntroductionCape Breton coal mines have been pioneers in the use of the latest technology in mining coal on this continent. To mention just one example, continuous methane monitoring at the coal face was started in 1976 and the idea of automatically stopping the face conveyor during high gas levels using the face signalling system was conceived and developed by CBDC engineers.With the introduction of remote environmental monitoring, No. 26 Colliery will be the first underground coal mine in Canada and possibly in North America to have computer-based comprehensive environmental monitoring.Traditionally, surveillance of the mine environment has been based mainly on periodic checks by portable or hand-held monitors. Although this method proved adequate, it has some limitations, namely:1) restricted 'number of observations and samples;2) relatively long time between taking measurements and availability of results for assessment.With remote monitoring, the above limitations are overcome because (a) monitoring is continuous and (b) monitored data are updated quickly (typically 5-7 sec.). Remote monitoring also provides a centralized 'information center' at the surface from where the entire mine environment can be monitored. Details of modes in which data can be displayed and features available at the location will be discussed later in the paper."

Dispositivos atuatores com componentes de ligas de NiTi podem ter seu desempenho modificado quando submetidos a distintas taxas de aquecimento e/ou resfriamento resulte numa transformação de fase. Por outro lado, por norma, as temperaturas de transformação de fase (início, pico e fim) devem ser estabelecidas a partir de taxas fixas de 10ºC/min (tanto no aquecimento como no resfriamento) através da técnica de Calorimetria Diferencial de Varredura (DSC), sem levar em conta a dinâmica do material durante a transformação em aplicações reais. O presente trabalho procura observar a transformação de fase do material avaliando a capacidade de resposta do mesmo, quando submetido a ciclos em um DSC sob diversas taxas de resfriamento e aquecimento, entre 1 e 10ºC/min em uma liga de NiTi rica em Ti, com formação de fase R durante o resfriamento e/ou aquecimento. Os resultados de DSC foram submetidos a um tratamento de dados com o intuito de melhor determinar as temperaturas de transformação de fase associadas as frações transformadas. Pode-se verificar que valores de taxas de resfriamento e de aquecimento superiores a 7°C/min permitem que ocorra uma tendência para um incremento do intervalo entre as temperaturas de início e fim das transformações direta e reversa.

EVERAL carbide-cobalt compositions were pre-^-5 pared for the purpose of determining the transverse rupture strength of various carbide-binder systems. The binder content was held at 10 and 37 volume pct Co, so as to be representative of low and high bjnder compositions. The carbides used, WC, Tic, TaC, CbC, VC and ZrC, were selected on the basis of availability, knowledge of their properties, and small solid solubilities in the binder metal at room temperature. The methods of preparation and carbon analysis of the carbides are summarized in Table I. The carbides with cobalt added were ball milled, pressed, and sintered. vacuum sintering was used throughout, except for the WC-Cs alloys, which were sintered in hydrogen. The sintering temperatures ranged from 2500" to 2750°F for the low binder alloys and from 2300" to 2550°F for the high binder alloys. Compositions and properties of the sintered com- pacts are presented in Table 11. For the transverse rupture strength, the average and range of the five best samples of each alloy are listed. Discrepancies between the actual and theoretical densities are attributed to carbon deficiencies in some samples. The theoretical densities were calculated by assuming mixtures of carbides of stoichiometric compositions and cobalt. Representative microstructures are shown in Figs. 1 to 6. Nesse trabalho estudou-se o retardo na cinética de amaciamento estático do aço inoxidável austenitico ASTM F-1586 (ISO 5832-9) usado na confecção de implantes ortopédicos, por meio de ensaios de torção a quente isotérmico em duplo passe. Inicialmente as amostras foram aquecidas por indução até a temperatura de 1250 oC e mantidas por 300 s para solubilização, em seguida resfriadas até a temperatura de deformação (Tdef), que variou de 1000 a 1200 oC, com passes de deformações de ε1 = ε2 = 0,30, taxa de deformação de 1,0 s-1 e tempo entre passes (tp) variando entre 0,1 – 1800 s, simulando um processo de forjamento a quente industrial de um dispositivo ortopédico. Os resultados da simulação física do processamento termomecânico indicaram que 60 % do amaciamento dá-se por recuperação estática (SRV), com moderado valor de energia de falha de empilhamento (γEFE ~ 69 mJ/m2) do aço e tempo de encubação pra iniciar a recristalização estática (SRX) maior que 10 s abaixo de 1100 oC com formação de patamares nas curvas de amaciamento Xs vs tp, indicando atraso na cinética de recristalização estática (SRX) resultante do efeito dos precipitados da fase Z (NbCrN) induzidos por deformação nos contornos dos grãos austeniticos.

Estudou-se as propriedades de filmes finos de TiO2 depositados em substratos de vidro.Os filmes foram obtidos pelos métodos Sol-gel e Evaporação por feixe de elétrons (e-beam) visando obter a propriedade autolimpante. Essa propriedade dos filmes de TiO2 está relacionada à hidrofilicidade fotoinduzida e pode viabilizar várias aplicações tecnológicas como a obtenção de vidros autolimpantes para módulos fotovoltaicos. O tetraisopropóxido de titânio foi utilizado como precursor no método sol-gel com deposição dip-coating. Na evaporação e-beam, partiu-se do TiO2 sólido. Os filmes passaram por diferentes tratamentos térmicos e as propriedades dos filmes obtidos pelas duas técnicas de deposição. A cristalinidade da fase anatásio foi identificada por DRX de baixo ângulo. A espessura foi medida por perfilometria e Microscopia de Força Atômica, obtendo-se valores próximos de 170 nm. Parâmetros como topografia, rugosidade e tamanho dos cristais de anatásio foram avaliados. A transmitância das placas de vidro com os filmes depositados foi medida por espectrofotometria UV-Vis. O caráter hidrofílico dos filmes finos foi comprovado por meio de medidas do ângulo de contato com água. Os filmes obtidos por ambas as técnicas apresentaram boa capacidade autolimpante devido ao efeito da hidrofilicidade fotoinduzida sob radiação UV.

Incentivado pela diversificação dos produtos em aço, a demanda por graus cuja composição química esteja próxima da faixa peritética, tais como os aços HSLA (High Strength Low Alloy) e AHSS (Advanced High Strength Steel), tem aumentado. As crescentes exigências nas propriedades mecânicas e a redução de custo nas ligas são as razões para que esses aços sejam projetados próximos à faixa peritética, com o teor de carbono entre 0,09 e 0,16%. A produção de placas do aço ASTM A588-B, com o teor de carbono visado igual a 0,10%, apresentava expressiva variação do Nível de Aço no Molde (Ou Mould Level Fluctuation, MLF), aumentando a probabilidade de ocorrência de “Break-Out” (Rompimento de Pele) e a redução da qualidade de superfície das placas, com eventual ocorrência de Trincas Longitudinais. Outra limitação é a impossibilidade de troca de largura das placas, dependente da estabilidade do processo de Lingotamento Contínuo. Serão discutidas as ações tomadas visando a redução do MLF, baseada em alterações no Projeto de Liga, a comparação entre variáveis-chave do processo de Lingotamento Contínuo de Placas em dois cenários de Projeto de Liga além dos impactos em características de Propriedades Mecânicas do produto laminado, no caso bobinas processadas em Laminador Steckel.

"The Sturgeon Lake deposit, a partly eroded lens of massive sulphides with an underlying sulphide stringer zone, is one of five orebodies that occur in the Sturgeon Lake area of northwestern Ontario within volcaniclastic rocks of the Archean Wabigoon Subprovince in the Superior Province of the Canadian Shield.The Sturgeon Lake Cu-Zn-Pb-A g-Au deposit was discovered in October 1970 as a result of an I.P. survey. Production from this open-pit mine began in March 1974 and continued until the ore was exhausted in March 1980.The Sturgeon Lake property is underlain by basaltic volcanics, minor amounts of mafic lapilli tuff and rhyolite volcaniclastics. A quartz crystal-bearing rhyolite occurs at the top of the felsic volcaniclastics and is ""capped"" by the Sturgeon Lake massive sulphide deposit. The felsic volcanics have been intruded by a crudely layered sill-like, carbonatized mafic intrusion. Recent work suggests that the felsic rocks that underlie the Sturgeon Lake deposit are lateral equivalents of those in the vicinity of the Mattabi Mine and are not correlative with the dacitic volcaniclastics that underlie the Lyon Lake and Creek Zone deposits. Hydrothermal processes that resulted in the formation of the Sturgeon Lake orebody have resulted in a depletion of Na2O, CaO and FeO and an increase in MgO, K2O, copper and zinc. In the vicinity of the sulphide stringer zone, the rhyolites are ""bleached"" due to silicification and sericitization. The rocks lying immediately below the massive sulphides are locally strongly chloritic.The Sturgeon Lake deposit may have formed on a top ographic high which prevented mafic flows and dacitic volcaniclastics that underlie the Lyon Lake and Creek Zone deposits from inundating the Sturgeon Lake fumarolic vent from the west. Continued or resurgent activity from the Sturgeon Lake fumarole may have resulted in the formation of the Lyon Lake and Creek Zones as more ""distal "" deposits in topographic lows. The Sturgeon Lake, Lyon Lake and Creek Zone deposits were subsequently overlain by mafic tuffs and flows."

The purpose of this Bureau of Mines report is to furnish information on mining practices applied to flat-bedded fluorspar deposits in southern Illinois. It presents new and improved operating procedures and specialized techniques applicable to deposits of this type. All of the operating mines of the Ozark-Mahoning Co. in this area have been opened by vertical shafts which connect with levels consisting of haul-age ways, stopes, and loading stations. The stoping practice used locally called room and pillar, is open stoping with pillars left at different distances and diameters. To facilitate haulage and drainage, the mines are worked from openings turned off the main haulage drift on a grade to conform with the dip of the ore beds. The ore is predominantly fluorspar with smaller amounts of galena and sphalerite that contain traces of cadmium and germanium. The principal gangue minerals are limestone, calcite, shale, barite, and sandstone. The rock hardness ranges from relatively soft shale to hard, abrasive sandstone.

Devido à carência de tarugos de alumínio 6060 com boa qualidade e baixo custo de produção no mercado de extrusão do Brasil, surge a necessidade de encontrar soluções práticas que resultem em um melhor desempenho das ligas na indústria da extrusão. Este trabalho, portanto, tem o objetivo de estudar a influência do tratamento térmico de homogeneização e da taxa de resfriamento pós-tratamento na microestrutura de uma liga de alumínio 6060, assim como as suas implicações na indústria de extrusão. Tarugos cilíndricos da liga de alumínio 6060, com diâmetro de sete polegadas, foram fabricados e submetidos a diferentes ciclos de tratamentos térmicos em um forno industrial do tipo bambury com a finalidade de dissolver e homogeneizar as partículas de segunda fase na matriz de alumínio. As variáveis de tratamento térmico investigadas neste estudo foram o tempo de residência e a taxa de resfriamento. Os tarugos termicamente tratados foram, em seguida, amostrados para caracterização microestrutural e para a execução de testes industriais de extrusão. Os resultados obtidos indicaram que existe uma significativa diferença microestrutural entre as amostras, que consistiu principalmente na variação das frações de precipitados de Mg2Si na matriz. Foi possível concluir que a produtividade na extrusão depende fortemente da fração desses precipitados.

Aços bifásicos ou Dual Phase são caracterizados por uma microestrutura ferrítico- martensítica, a qual consiste em uma matriz de ferrita equiaxial com 10 a 20% de martensita dispersa na forma de ilhas. Neste trabalho, utilizaram-se amostras de aço baixo C, micro adição de Nb e Mo, na condição laminada a frio (BFH). As simulações físicas nesse material, em escala laboratorial, foram conduzidas com o objetivo de avaliar a evolução microestrutural após redução de espessura através de laminação a frio e recozimento intercrítico com temperatura de encharque de 800 °C e permanência por 180 segundos na temperatura máxima, seguido de resfriamento sob duas proposições: em água (criticar a fração de austenita formado no encharque em função do potencial para recristalização da ferrita) e ao ar (inferir na formação de ferrita epitaxial e subsequentes transformações bainítica e/ou martensítica no decurso do resfriamento). Utilizando o auxílio da microscopia eletrônica de varredura (MEV), observaram-se que para obtenção da microestrutura característica de um aço DP seria necessário o ajuste dos parâmetros de recozimento em função do percentual de redução na laminação a frio, ou seja, aumentando o percentual de redução do material é necessária a diminuição da temperatura ou do tempo de encharque para que sejam obtidos resultados adequados as características de um aço DP.

O objetivo deste trabalho é pesquisar sobre as principais falhas apresentadas por revestimentos anticorrosivos modernos comumente empregados para proteção interna de tanques de armazenamento de produtos petroquímicos e avaliar a capacidade da técnica de correntes parasitas para a inspeção não destrutiva deste material. Nesse contexto, as vantagens e limitações da técnica são analisadas. A aquisição de dados foi realizada considerando as propriedades isolantes dos revestimentos nas condições como aplicado e também após o envelhecimento. Amostras foram preparadas com defeitos controlados inseridos no substrato de aço carbono a fim de simular defeitos de corrosão localizada sob o revestimento. A detecção dos defeitos foi avaliada nas amostras com diferentes espessuras e também com a presença de óxido de ferro no interior dos defeitos a fim de simular áreas de corrosão localizada. Através da comparação entre os resultados obtidos no C-Scan original e após o processamento de imagem, foi possível observar uma melhoria significativa na eliminação dos falsos defeitos relacionados a variação da espessura inerente do revestimento pela limiarização multilevel. Também foi possível através do efeito do lift-off distinguir os defeitos reais e falsos defeitos. Nesse aspecto, a técnica de correntes parasitas se mostrou capaz de detectar defeitos neste tipo de material.

Eagle Plains Resources? Exploration in the Northern Cordillera ?Eagle Plains Resources Ltd. (EPL) is actively exploring for Zn-Pb deposits in the northern Cordillera in both carbonate-hosted and shale-hosted (sedex) environments. ?This presentation will review some of the significant carbonate-hosted Zn-Pb showings occurring in the Mackenzie Mountains, NWT and make limited comparisons with sedexdeposits in the adjacent Selwyn Basin.

On the basis of limited experimental work conducted at the Port Pirie smelter, it would appear that, by increasing the specific surface of sinter, and possibly that of coke as well, a marked increase in the rate and degree of sinter reduction in the furnace shaft can be achieved. Fusion-point tests have shown that this increased reduction means a much higher sinter fusion point and narrower plastic zone, while the more efficient utilization of coke in the furnace is inherent in the intensification of reduction by the provision of a more reactive sinter surface. Investigations aimed at increasing the ability to operate the blast furnace with a higher lead tenor of sinter reducing fuel cost proportionately, and at eliminating the loss in reduction potential in coke entering the furnace, as shown by the presence of appreciable proportions of CO in the top gases, are reported. Several lines for future investigations that could result in improved smelting methods are proposed. A SOMEWHAT informal presentation of ideas on lead blast-furnace smelting will be given in this paper. These ideas have been developed during observations of furnace behavior at Port Pirie and earlier at Mt. Isa, and have been guided by the results of laboratory experiments at Port Pirie. The authors do not intend to propound any particularly new theories, but present their ideas as a basis for discussion which may help toward a better understanding and improved control of blast-furnace operation. Performance variations of considerable magnitude occur from time to time at most lead blast-furnace plants. While Port Pirie is fortunate in having a very regular supply of high grade concentrates, it is no exception in this respect. Such irregularities are of considerable economic importance and they constitute a challenge to present-day metallurgists in their efforts to obtain an ever greater degree of control over furnace operation. In operating as Port Pirie does with a relatively high lead charge, it has been recognized for a long time that shaft conditions are ,of the greatest importance. A practical, or engineering, attack on the problem of accretions consisted of changes in furnace design, e.g., by widening the shaft to 10 ft above the bottom row of tuyeres, and by the provision of curved ends and vertical walls.' That this attack has had a great measure of success is shown by the fact that barring down of these wide furnaces is rarely necessary, shaft conditions have greatly improved, and sensitivity to charge variations has been markedly reduced. These modifications, followed by some metallurgical changes (chiefly the incorporation of pig iron into the furnace charge in 1948), have brought furnace operation to a point where some variables which were previously masked can now be studied. Accordingly, over different periods of time during the last five years, such variables as could be given numerical values have been recorded and subjected to statistical examination. The objectives of this work were: 1—to reveal the true importance of the different variables and 2—to show the proportion of total furnace variation which is unexplained and therefore referable to causes not measured at present? e.g., shaft accretions, sinter structure, coke structure, and others.
