"Complex research of flotation concentrates of monomineral fractions of chalcopyrite, sphalerite, galena, pyrite, pyrrhotite included methods of adsorption of collectors, surface compounds by IR ATR, and surface films of flotoreagents by TEM. They revealed that the proportion of the parts of thionocarbamate (TC) and dithiophosphate had an effect on the adsorption rate of the components of minerals, on the presence of characteristic bands, and, what is an important, visualized surface film of organic flotation reagents on the particles of concentrates by TEM. The predominance of thionocarbamate in a composition selectively increases the adsorption rate constant of the components and recovery of chalcopyrite compared with sphalerite and galena. The highest flotation rate using TC is characteristic for chalcopyrite (0.62 min- 1) in case of individual use, and it's in combination with butyl xanthate (25% butyl xanthate or 3:1) 0.89 min-1 too. We studied the ternary blend - dithiophosphate: thionocarbamates: butyl xanthate. The increase of the proportion of butyl xanthate in combination reduces the contrast of the flotation rate among all sulfides.Practice flotation of refractory sulfide copper-zinc ores of the Urals (content sulfide iron - 75- 95%) confirmed that the use of a combination of selective collectors increases selective recovery of copper sulfide minerals up to 50% at the first fraction that is the conditioned copper concentrate. New selective sulfhydryl collectors resulted in high levels of recovery of copper into a concentrate - more than 90% - against 70-72% (butyl xanthate) from copper-pyrite ore. Low floatability of iron sulfides has been obtained by selective sulfhydryl collectors. Using weak selective sulfhydryl collectors can reduce pH into collective or selective flotation from pH 10-10.5 to pH = 7.2-7.5, which improves the quality of individual concentrates of nonferrous metals and their recovery. The same is true for polymetalic sulfide ore. The volume of gold recovery also increased."

As novas tecnologias de manufatura aditiva podem acelerar tanto o desenvolvimento, quanto a prototipagem na indústria siderúrgica. Dessa forma, várias etapas do processo produtivo podem ter sua eficiência melhorada, com o objetivo de se obter um produto final de melhor qualidade, gastando menos recursos humanos, operacionais, custos e tempo. Nesse contexto, este projeto tem como objetivo o aumento da eficácia do procedimento do vazamento do aço líquido da panela para o distribuidor, por meio do desenvolvimento de um dispositivo anti-vórtice para a válvula superior da panela de aço. Neste projeto foram avaliados diferentes formatos e geometrias por meio da metodologia de Planejamento de Experimentos (DOE), empregando a impressão 3D e um modelo de escala reduzida. Posteriormente, foram realizadas simulações de fluidodinâmica computacional (CFD), para melhor compreensão do fenômeno e dos resultados obtidos.

Safety work in mining at the Andes Copper Mining Company, Potrerillos, Chile, is divided into three parts: (1) accident prevention, (2) fire prevention and protection, and (3) silicosis prevention and control. In the company's operations a steady campaign has been waged to reduce accidents and silicosis, and to prevent fires. In the following pages the safety record for the past twelve years will be examined and the methods explained by which the accident rate was reduced. Table 1 contains yearly data pertaining to the scale of the mining operations and the accident record. Block caving is used for all ore production and the tonnage mined has aver- aged 30,000 short tons per day for the past seven years. Table 2 classifies 44 fatal accidents which have occurred since 1935. The leading causes of accidental death are transportation of ore and use of explosives, followed in order by per- sons falling, falls of ground, and by asphyxiation. The Bureau of Mines devised a column flotation technique using either fine or coarse bubbles and compared it with conventional flotation on a Montana chromite ore. On deslimed ore, fine-bubble column flotation produced a 44.7-pct-Cr203-grade rougher concentrate with 87-pct recovery, compared with 43.8- and 43.5-pct-Cr203-grade rougher concentrates with 85- and 77-pct recovery for coarse-bubble column flotation and conventional flotation, respectively. On undeslimed ore, coarse-and fine-bubble column flotation produced rougher concentrates containing approximately 41.5-pct-Cr203 with 95-pct recovery, exceeding conventional flotation which produced 35.6-pct-Cr203-grade concentrates with 87-pct recovery.

"The Cerro Corona mine consists of a Cu-Au porphyry deposit located in the Andes of northern Peru. The deposit comprises a typical Cu-Au multiphase porphyry mineralisation that has been overprinted by an epithermal event. This has generated a complex pattern of argillic alteration facies, which was accompanied by a locally structural-controlled Au-Cu mineralisation with the presence of gold and limited Cu sulfides and sulfosalts. These features, along with the porphyry-style mineralisation, produced a multifaceted occurrence of gold.Since the beginning of operations at Cerro Corona in 2008 there has been a continuous improvement of the geological and mineralogical knowledge. All mineralogical studies have mainly focused on host rock types and, to a lesser extent, alteration minerals, but little work has been done on the mineralisation itself. As a consequence, limited mineralogical information was available for use in the process optimisation initiatives.In the last two years, a series of mineralogical characterisation studies were undertaken with two main goals. First, to gain an understanding of the mineralisation genesis and second, to obtain a detailed characterisation of copper and gold minerals to support ongoing process optimisation. The first goal was achieved by conventional optical microscopy while the second required electronic microscopy and other microanalyses due to the necessity of quantifying several minerals of interest for the processing.The results were used to refine pre-existing geometallurgical domains, explain copper and gold losses in the flotation process and to some extent, improve copper and gold recoveries. The mineralogical characterisation is an ongoing work. As ligas de alumínio da série 7XXX são largamente utilizadas no setor aeronáutico devido sua alta razão resistência mecânica / densidade. O que proporciona uma alta resistência mecânica para as ligas da série 7XXX é a adição de elementos de ligas e tratamentos térmicos adequados, como por exemplo o T7351. Este trabalho teve como objetivo, estudar a evolução microestrutural de uma liga de alumínio 7475-T7351 processada por laminação convencional a temperatura ambiente, e posteriormente submetida a tratamentos térmicos de recozimento para recristalização. De acordo com os resultados apresentados, a amostra que foi submetida ao tratamento térmico de recozimento para recristalização a temperatura de 500ºC durante 15 minutos recristalizou, enquanto que a amostra que foi tratada a 350ºC durante 1500 minutos teve coalescimento dos precipitados.

A corrida pela alta produtividade, a demanda pela otimização de processos, que proporciona maior economia de combustível, impulsiona o desenvolvimento de estruturas veiculares de menor peso. O aço Bake Hardening (BH) é um aço de ultra baixo carbono estabilizado ao titânio, que apresenta átomos de carbono em solução sólida ocupando posições intersticiais. Este passa por um tratamento realizado durante o trabalho de pintura do veículo, permitindo que as chapas sejam endurecidas pelo efeito BH, conferindo resistência à endentação. Neste estudo um aço BH foi analisado em quatro condições de processo: laminação a quente, laminação a frio, recozimento e encruamento, com o objetivo de estudar os efeitos da variação destes parâmetros nas propriedades mecânicas do material, através dos ensaios de tração, obtendo resultados como valor de alongamento adquirido e dureza.

Mr. Logan explained that as Indiana is the principal source of mineral wool, the paper might well he entitled "Mineral Wool Resources of the United States."

Em contrapartida e ainda apontada como uma grande geradora de resíduos, que variam em função da matéria-prima utilizada e também da mão-de-obra desqualificada. Dentro desta faixa de mercado, o número de edificações que empregam blocos cerâmicos como elementos de vedação ou estruturais, é bastante expressivo, principalmente pela facilidade de produção destes artefatos no Brasil. Neste trabalho buscou-se avaliar a influência dos blocos cerâmicos, quando utilizados fora de norma, em uma determinada edificação, formada por um prédio residencial multifamiliar que estava sendo construído no município de Itaperuna, RJ e se encontrava nas etapas construtivas de vedação e revestimento, cujas perdas e causas associadas foram identificadas e quantificadas.

A sociedade cada vez mais está buscando por materiais ecologicamente corretos em detrimento de materiais nocivos ao meio ambiente. Nesse novo contexto as fibras naturais estão, cada vez mais substituindo as fibras sintéticas, por exemplo, a fibra de vidro. Além das vantagens ambientais, as fibras naturais são mais baratas do que os sintéticos. O ensaio de pullout estuda a adesão da fibra na matriz de poliéster e a interação das fibras com a matriz de poliéster, também chamados de biocompósitos. Portanto, o presente estudo analisou a fibra de PALF por meio de ensaio de pullout. O ensaio verificou que o comprimento de embutimento crítico da fibra de PALF em matriz de poliéster é de 1,20 mm e a tensão cisalhante na interface fibra/matriz é de 11,66 Mpa.

A business case fulfills these basic functions: estimates economic value; helps to understand competitiveness; serves as a risk management tool; and serves as a communication tool. A business case evolves with the project life cycle, and supports the gate reviews at the end of each phase of engineering, through to project construction and operations. A business case must be holistic, including all elements of scope that can impinge on project risk and value.

By the coke gasified reaction device and online measurement high-temperature compressive strength apparatus, the variation of pore structures of coke after gasified reaction with CO2 and H2O was investigated. Research illuminating the influences of solution loss rate, temperature, and carbon species on compressive strength of coke was also carried out. The results showed that the total compressive strength was higher than for the reaction with CO2. The high-temperature compressive strength of coke decreased with the increasing of solution loss ratio or temperature after reacting with CO2 and H2O. At the same solution loss ratio, the damage of pore structure to coke strength after gasified reaction with H2O was relatively smaller and the deformation resistance was stronger when compared with that in CO2.

"Electrokinetic soil remediation by electroosmosis and ionic migration is restricted to soluble substances. At a higher pH, the soil particles sorb more heavy metals than at a lower pH and the precipitation of heavy metals are promoted. Both mechanisms make heavy metals immobile, rendering cleanup more difficult and electrokinetic extraction inefficient.In this study, the effectiveness of introducing a complexing agent to enhance the removal of cadmium from kaolinite in the region of neutral pH by ionic migration is examined. The complexing agent selected was ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid (EDTA). The investigation was carried out in a laboratory-scale column containing kaolinite contaminated with cadmium. As the results of the study, cadmium migrates toward the anode without accumulation of cadmium and is successfully removed at the anode reservoir."

O estudo da composição mássica de cerâmicas vermelhas é de extrema importância para a produção de peças com propriedades tecnológicas aceitáveis. Nesse contexto esse trabalho tem por objetivo determinar as propriedades tecnológicas de cerâmica vermelha para fabricação de blocos de vedação. Dois tipos de argila foram usados, argila forte e fraca, para a confecção dos corpos de prova que foram moldados por prensagem uniaxial. Após essa etapa foram determinadas a absorção de água e a resistência em flexão. Os resultados mostraram que a massa composta por 50% de argila forte e 50% de argila fraca apresentaram os melhores resultados de resistência à flexão. Assim, o estudo mostrou que todas as massas estudadas atendem aos requisitos mínimos exigidos por norma e que a massa composta pela mistura das argilas apresentou o melhor desempenho mecânico tecnológico.

A high-Btu gas was made at the Bruceton, Pa., laboratories of the Bureau of Mines to demonstrate the feasibility of using the gas as a nonpolluting fuel for automobiles. The pilot plants at Bruceton were revised to combine the processes of coal gasification, gas purification, and catalytic methanation in one overall system. Tests in the Bureau's test automobiles at Bartlesville, Okla., showed the Synthane gas was less polluting than natural gas.

ALL history testifies that the mineral resources of a region have furnished both the impulse for its first development by man, and the foundation for its subsequent occupation by civilized and prosperous communities. In the pre-historic ages, the hunters, fishers, shepherds and gardeners of the world may have wandered or tarried without regard to the attractions of the mineral deposits which they could not utilize, and therefore did not value. But with the rise of civilization, as expressed in manufactures and commerce, the national value of such deposits began to be realized. Barbarous and remote tribes, possessing the sources of such supplies, won recognition in trade long before they could attain it through any other means. Thus, the North American Indians of Lake Superior exchanged their native copper for the mica of North Carolina; the ships of Tyre sailed all the way to Spain for lead and to Britain for tin; and the fleets of Solomon brought gold from Tarshish. In more modern times it has been chiefly the precious metals that have stimulated exploration and conquest. The inherent qualities and the traditional value of gold and silver sufficiently explain this historic fact, the continued existence and potency of which is evidenced, even in our own times, by the occasional rush of eager adventurers to new districts where gold and silver have been discovered. The history of North and South America has been peculiarly influenced by this factor. Under the designations "industrial talc" and "soapstone" are included earth materials of widely different chemical and mineral compositions.
