Este trabalho tem como objetivo apresentar os resultados do procedimento de geração de energia elétrica adicional a geração econômica na CTE2 com gás natural, visando a redução de custo no grupo CSN.O estudo foi efetuado através da avaliação dos preços do mercado de curto prazo de energia elétrica e análise do processo de geração da planta, aos quais permitiram diagnosticar as melhores praticas e definir a melhor configuração operacional.Os resultados apresentados foram significativos para as condições de operação, o que representa redução do custo de energia elétrica para o grupo CSN e aumento da segurança operacional da planta da CTE2.

The Artillery Peak manganese ores , from one of the largest known manganese deposits in the United States , present a difficult problem in concentration because they are low-grade and the association of manganese and gangue minerals is intimate and complex. The known size of this deposit has justified investigation of processes such as leaching, wherein preliminary enrichment of the original feed might be advantageous .. Therefore , the ore-dressing studies on Artillery Peak ores were carried on with the object not only of making directly marketable manganese products but also of removing acid-consuming calcite and raising the grade of ore for leachingplant feed . Owing to the extent of the deposits , test work was carried on at the Salt Lake laboratories in considerable detail on several lots of ore of varying composition . This paper summarizes the results obtained from laboratory testing of four samples obtained by engineers of the Mining Branch from the Maggie Canyon area of the Artillery Peak deposit . Also included are results obtained from testing one sample of Chapin Group ore , which was considered representative of numerous very low-grade ores submitted from the Artillery Peak district . During the course of the investigations , many data were obtained and compiled , but for the sake of brevity , data of secondary importance have been omitted or condensed and only those tests giving the more pertinent results are discussed in detail ...

No presente trabalho foi avaliado, por meio de ensaios dinamométricos em um motor de combustão interna, o desempenho dos anéis de compressão em diferentes materiais de camisa de cilindro, sob alto regime de carga. Dois materiais foram utilizados nas camisas: Ferro fundido cinzento e um revestimento eletrodepositado de Níquel carbeto de silício. Os ensaios tiveram duração de quatro horas com cada configuração anéis/camisa. Parâmetros de análise, como a rugosidade média (Ra) e o aspecto superficial foram aferidos antes e após os testes. Os resultados apontam que o primeiro anel ensaiado na camisa revestida de Ni-SiC apresentou maior redução de Ra na condição estudada.

A bentonite-clay drilling mud when treated with tetrasodium pyroarsenate underwent substantially the same reduction in viscosity and water loss as when treated with the complex phosphates. The complex arsenate showed a slightly higher reversion after heating; the other arsenates showed poor viscosity-reducing properties. Introduction During the past 10 years the chemical control of drilling mud has become of major importance in affecting the successful drilling and working over of wells. The desired properties of drilling mud have been well established, and in obtaining these characteristics there has developed a large market for viscosity-reducing chemicals. Viscosity reduction produced by humic acid, tannic acid, sodium silicate, sodium tannate, Calgon, and the complex phosphates has been described by Loomis, Ford, and Fidiam.l The effects Of treatment with complex phosphates and ammonium PolyPhosPhates on the rheological properties of muds were investigated by Fancher2 and the alkali vanadates have been described by Williams.3 Laboratory Investigations It is the purpose of this paper to point out the effects of arsenates in controlling the viscosity and gelling characteristics of a drilling mud. Viscosities and gel strengths were measured at room temperatures with a Stormer viscosimeter calibrated in centipoises and operated at 600 r.p.m. Water loss was determined at 80°F. with the Baroid low-pressure wall-building tester at a pressure of I00 lb. per sq. in. for 30 min. The hydrogen-ion concentration was measured with a glass electrode. The bentonite-clay suspensions were prepared in the laboratory and allowed to age several days before testing. Members of the Arsenic Group in the periodic Table include arsenic, antimony and bismuth, but this investigation was limited to arsenic. Phosphorus also occurs in Group V of the Periodic system and phosphorus and arsenic form many closely related compounds such as pH3 and AsH3, P2O5 and As2O5, H3PO4 and H3AS04 Samples of tetrasodium pyroarsenate were prepared by fusing c.p. disodium arsenate (Na2HA5O4.7H2O). According to Friend,' this re-forms the ortho-arsenate on dissolution in water. Sodium trihydrodiorthoarsenate was prepared as described by Mellor,5 from arsenic pen-toxide as follows: As2O5 + 3H20 -> 2H3AsO4 2H3AS04 + 3NaOH Na3H3(AsO4)2 .3H20 Sodium dihydrogen orthoarsenateWaHz-As04) was obtained by fusing together equivalent quantities of arsenious Oxide and sodium nitrate, dissolving the residue in water and allowing it to crystallize.

Present work is focused on the recovery of Mn as a value added product from the leach liquor of scrap lithium-ion batteries (LIBs) of mobile phones by the method of precipitation. The LIBs were crushed and bene ficiated by wet scrubbing method to separate cathodic material, plastic and metallic parts. The cathodic material was found to contain 11.3% Mn, 10% Co, 2.4% Cu and 2.4% Li. The cathodic material was processed for leaching under the optimized condition developed by our group at CSIR-NML. Solvent extraction method was used to extract acid using organic extractant Tris(2-ethylhexyl)amine (TEHA) in order to reduce the consumption of alkali required during precipitation studies. The acid free leach liquor was subjected to puri fication for removal of Fe, Li, Cu and Co as precipitate at different pH. Systematic precipitation studies were carried in batch and continuous mode to recover Mn as Mn(OH) 2 at pH *10 which was further roasted at 450 °C for 4 h to get pure Mn 3O4.

Preliminary results of an in situ oil shale retorting experiment conducted by the Bureau of Mines in a shallow bed of Green River oil shale at Rock Springs, Sweetwater County, Wyo., are described. Eleven wells were drilled into a 20-ft-thick section of the shale lying between 68 and 88 It deep, and attempts were made to connect the wells through the shale with a fracture system created by application of high-voltage electricity (electro-linking), hydraulic fracturing, and explosive fracturing. Ignition of the shale through the central well was easily achieved with a propane burner, and shale oil began to collect in three wells within 3 hours. Propane injection was discontinued after 7 days, and combustion continues, although attempts to control the direction of the combustion front have been unsuccessful. Production rates as high as 4 ½ barrels of nil per day have been recorded, but too little is known about underground conditions to permit an estimate of recovery efficiency at this time.

"Phosphorite is the main raw material for the production of phosphorus in chemical industry. More attentions have been drawn to the phosphorite concentrate beneficiated from low-grade phosphorite due to the decrease of high-grade phosphorite. For another, the agglomeration process is necessary for the phosphorite concentrate after beneficiation process. The mineralogy and sintering process of the phosphorite from Leshan, China were studied in this work. The result shows that the main phases in the phosphorite are fluorapatite (Ca3(P04)3F), hydroxylapatite (Cas(P04)3(0H)), quartz (Si02) and dolomite (CaMg(C03)2). The yield of the sinter increases with increasing the carbon dosage to 7%, and then decreases when it continuously increases. Similar regularities were found for the strength and the content of P20s of the sinter. The best strength of the sinter as well as its P205 content were discovered when the carbon dosage is 7%. Fluorapatite ((Ca5(P04)3)F) is the main phase in the sinter while fuggerite (Ca2MgSiz01) is the main binder phase.IntroductionPhosphorus is an important foundation industrial raw material of national defense industry, food industry and chemical industry, where it is used to produce red phosphorus, phosphonium hydroxide, phosphorus pentasulfide and phosphoric anhydride[l-2]."

O objetivo deste estudo é recuperar parte do alumínio empregado na fabricação das embalagens de medicamentos do tipo “blister”, por tratamento químico e térmico seguido de separação gravimétrica, resultando na obtenção de alumínio na forma de óxido (Al2O3). A caracterização do produto particulado metálico obtido constitui-se em um caminho para se chegar ao patamar de existência de coleta seletiva após seu descarte, diminuição deste tipo de embalagens nos aterros sanitários e/ou incineradores de lixo doméstico e posterior reaproveitamento com amplos benefícios ambientais. A caracterização morfológica do óxido de alumínio obtido foi realizada utilizando as técnicas instrumentais de ICP/AES e MEV/EDS.

É comum encontrar sintonia de controladores PID que não levam em consideração o sinal de controle aplicado a variável manipulada. Portanto, variações rápidas e amplitudes elevadas podem ser geradas, que, na prática, pode ser inviáveis, devido à limitação física de atuadores e equipamentos industriais. Nesse artigo é desenvolvido um método de sintonia em que os parâmetros do PID são calculados por meio do Algoritmo Genético. A função de custo proposta penaliza tanto a amplitude do erro de controle quanto à variação da variável manipulada. A estabilidade é garantida com as restrições de robustez sobre o pico das funções sensibilidades. Exemplos simulados demonstram as vantagens da sintonia proposta.

The separation of enormous quantities of water produced with the oil in some West Texas fields necessitated the use of special equipment other than the regular lease tanks. Several methods were used with varying degrees of success. They include the water-trap, hay tank and gun barrel, gun barrel and settling tank, chemical and electrical-dehydration methods. The water trap which has been used extensively in the Hendricks field, and in some instances has been installed in the Yates field separates the water and. oil under high pressure before tile liquid and gas pass through the flow beam. The first trap was constructed and installed by the Southern Crude Oil Purchasing Co. in July, 1928. By July, 1929, approximately 300 traps were in use. Treating cut oil by running it through a hay tank was done quite extensively in the Roberts-Settles field, Howard and Glasscock Counties, Tex., and later the method was used in the Hendricks field. In July, 1931, there were 37 hay tanks in the Roberts-Settles field, treating the oil from 123 wells. The cut oil frequently was made acceptable to the pipe-line company by running it through the hay tank. In some instances, however, it was necessary to heat the oil, and occasionally both heat and chemicals were used before complete separation of the oil and water was obtained.

The Sales Comparison Approach to estimating the value of a mineral property must always be attempted1 . In addition to other parameters, the approach depends heavily on the availability of transaction data. The consideration for the mineral property must be in form of cash, cash equivalent or other consideration. In other words, “What dollar amount did the property sell for?” Mineral properties are generally real estate, albeit frequently buried deeply under the overlying surface real estate, unless the property may be a quarry. In some states, transactions must be recorded in county courthouses, and the sale consideration must be included. In such cases, the appraiser’s job is made easy. In other locations, the sale considerations are withheld in the courthouse data; but occasionally a local transfer tax is collected and recorded. Again, the appraiser’s job is made easy by back calculation with knowledge of the legislated transfer tax percentage. The worst problem occurs when the consideration for a mineral real estate sale is totally withheld. That may occur in so-called nondisclosure states. Thermodynamic data for selected metal sulfates were critically evaluated and compiled as part of the Bureau of Mines program to provide a scientific base for use in developing new technology and predicting the feasibility of new processes. Values for Cp°, S°, H° - H°298, -(G° - H°298)/T, ?Hf°, ?Gf°, and log Kf as a function of temperature are given in tabular form. Thermodynamic data were compiled for VOSO4, Cr2(SO4)3, MnSO4, FeSO4, Fe2(SO4)3, CoSO4, NiSO4, Cu2SO4, CuSO4, CuO-CuSO4, ZnSO4, and ZnO-2ZnSO4, together with their stable hydrates.

Este trabalho tem o propósito de avaliar a temperabilidade de um aço SAE 1040 através da utilização do ensaio Jominy e posteriormente promover tratamentos térmicos, gerando nos corpos de prova condições de arrefecimento diferenciadas para avaliar a influência da severidade de têmpera da salmoura e óleo. A curva de ensaio Jominy gerada apresentou um comportamento coerente para um aço com médio teor carbono. Já os tratamentos térmicos que foram realizados posteriormente revelaram que o meio que gera o maior acréscimo nas propriedades mecânicas é o resfriamento em salmoura, haja vista que os corpos de prova submetidos a este resfriamento apresentaram o maior de dureza.

This Bureau of Mines report describes the results of an investigation for developing and applying procedures for stabilizing excavations openings in highly yielding ground. The approach developed in this report involves nonlinear modeling of the progressive relaxation of the zones of rock mass around the excavations opening where Coulomb criterion of failure is exceeded. Stresses are calculated by using a computer code; Coulomb-failure condition is examined for both intact rock and joints (using strength parameters [~] and c). The rock mass in the failed zones is relaxed by reducing the Young's modulus of the rock based on an empirical formulation that is a function of the shape of the opening and the extent of the failed zone. In addition, the material in the failed zone is assigned reduced strength paramters 0' and c'. The limiting (or convergent) relaxed zone is obtained through an iterative process by manually changing the rock modulus and the strength parameters between iterations. Support pressures are computed by applying forces normal to the excavation surface. The approach is applied to the analysis of stability and support requirements for an entry in a longwall coal mine.

The tensile properties of iodide vanadium were determined as a function of hydrogen concentration. It was shown that the presence of 10 ppm H is sufficient to cause embrittlement of vanadzum over a limited temperature range. The temperature of the observed ductility mininlum is approximately -l00°C, this being a function of strain rate and hydrogen concentration. The yield stress of hydrogenated vanadium is raised sharply in the brittle temperature range. THE present investigation was initiated to determine the effect of hydrogen on the tensile properties of high-purity vanadium as a function of temperature and the role of hydrogen in the brittle-ductile transition. Loomis and Carlson&apos; reported a change from ductile to brittle behavior in iodide vanadium at -110°C with a return of ductility at temperatures below -140°C. Vanadium wire containing 270 pprn of hydrogen was brittle at room temperature while wire containing 100 ppm was ductile under the same conditions. Roberts and Rogers&apos; reported a ductile-brittle-ductile fracture sequence in vanadium containing 400 to 600 ppm of hydrogen. Their data show that hydrogenated vanadium is ductile at 150"C, brittle at room temperature and ductile again at -196°C. Magnusson and Baldwin found a minimum in ductility in vanadium containing 80 ppm hydrogen from tensile tests performed at several strain rates. Information available on the vanadium-hydrogen equilibrium system4 is somewhat incomplete. The absorption of hydrogen is exothermic in accordance with the decline in solubility with rising temperature. The limit of solid solubility at temperatures below 400°C has not been determined due to the difficulties in obtaining equilibrium at these temperatures. Data on the hydrides of vanadium are rather limited. Roberts6 studied the structure of VD,., by neutron diffraction, and observed the ordering of the deuterium atoms below -65°C into a primitive cubic cell with a lattice constant about twice that of the disordered bcc vanadium solid solution. EXPERIMENTAL PROCEDURE Vanadium of 99.9 pct purity was prepared by the iodide refining process6 for use in this investigation. This vanadium contained the following analyzed impurities; <20 pprn calcium, 150 ppm carbon, 200 ppm chromium, 30 ppm copper, 10 ppm hydrogen, 200 ppm iron, <20 ppm magnesium, <20 ppm nickel, <5 ppm nitrogen, 150 ppm oxygen, <50 ppm silicon, and <20 ppm titanium. specimen Preparation—Tensile specimens were machined from swaged rods of iodide vanadium. The Bureau of Mines investigated the kinetics of reduction of wustite and magnetite with carbon monoxide. A mechanism was postulated wherein the interaction between gaseous and absorbed carbon monoxide appears to be the rate-determining process. This mechanism fully accounts for the experimental rate equation JL.h relates th velocity of reduction to the pressure of the reducing gas at constant temperature. It also explains the variability of the heat of activation of the reduction process with the state of aggregation of the oxide material. The integrated rate equation is in perfect agreement with the experimental reduction-time curves.

This chapter deals with the systems of laws by which governments regulate the exploration for and production of the minerals within their jurisdictions. It is a summary, restricted by necessary space limitations, of material assembled by the author for a publication of the United States Bureau of Mines, "Summary of Mining and Petroleum Laws of the World," (Information Circular 80 1 7, 196 1. ) The present study is organized in three parts, dealing with (1) the historical background of these legal systems, (2) laws of the United States, and (3) laws of other countries of the world. The reader&apos;s attention is invited to the acknowledgments at the end of the chapter, which inadequately express the appreciation due those who have assisted in the collection of this material. Part I. Historical Development of Major Western Systems of Land Tenancy with Respect to the Ownership and Control of Minerals The use of metals in primitive societies was largely confined to the manufacture of weapons for self-preservation. The ruler&apos;s control over copper, then bronze, then iron, was essential to maintenance of his own ascendancy at home and his group&apos;s position against neighbors who had access to similar metals. Ancient societies were thus characterized by the ruling group&apos;s ownership of minerals and metals. The Egyptian civilization, which emerged in the fourth millenium B.C. upon the agricultural subjugation of the lower valley of the Nile, was responsible for extensive development of the upper valley as a source of mineral wealth. The production of gold during the height of that civilization has been estimated at $30,000,000 per year, thus equaling the early placers of California and Australia. The mines of Egypt were the property of the Pharaohs and were controlled at their direction. Greek mining developed a different scheme of land tenancy which more closely resembled modem concepts.
