O presente trabalho avaliou a capacidade de degradação bacteriana de cianeto da cepa Bacillus pumilus em efluentes contaminados. Para isso foram realizados estudos de degradação bacteriana de cianeto em frascos agitados e incubados em agitador orbital durante 120 horas. Os ensaios aconteceram em três etapas; a primeira etapa consistiu na ativação e crescimento da bactéria em meio Luria Bertani, seguida da adaptação a ambientes alcalinos e por ultimo a etapa de degradação de cianeto. A proporção de inoculo foi de 1:500. Utilizou-se tampão CAPS para manter o pH alcalino. Para avaliação da degradação de cianeto foi preparada uma solução sintética contendo 500mgL-1 de cianeto de potássio pH 10. Foi avaliada a influencia da temperatura na degradação bacteriana (27, 32 e 37oC). O controle do crescimento celular foi realizado por medidas de densidade óptica com comprimento de onda ?=600nm. A quantificação do cianeto livre foi realziada por polarografia utilizando-se o analisador voltamétrico (computrace control 797 Metrohm). Dos resultados obtidos foi possível determinar que a cepa B. pumilus obteve melhor desempenho na degradação de cianeto a temperatura de 27oC conseguindo degradar 100% do cianeto livre presente na solução. O tempo empregado para a degradação total do cianeto foi de 3 dias.

Automobile manufacturers are developing Electrified Vehicles with light steel body structure designs that reduce mass and therefore greenhouse gas emissions over the vehicle’s entire life cycle. This raises the demand for the production and development of Advanced and Ultra High-Strength Steels (AHSS / UHSS) and Electrical Steels with increased permeability and reduced core loss to improve energy conversion efficiency. To meet this requirements the steel market is tending towards new generations of AHSS with improved formability (3rd generation AHSS) and high-silicon steels with higher strength and thinner products. With this growing demand for advanced high-strength steels and electrical steels, producers are faced with a unique and interesting challenge in producing materials that strain or exceed the capabilities of existing mill equipment and automation designed to produce low- to medium-carbon sheet. While specialty steel producers have known for decades how to process special high-strength steels and thinner gauges, this equipment typically does not offer the yield and productivity desired by the market, necessitating innovation in re-engineering existing equipment to meet the market demands more economically than new construction. In the case of cold rolling, this can be supported through variable roll geometries, more effective roll-gap lubrication technologies, application of strip heaters (Warm Rolling) to reduce risk for edge crack propagation and strip breaks as well as continuous rolling managed by state-of-the-art automation technologies.

Os pós ou lamas de aciaria gerados nos sistemas de despoeiramento dos gases de exaustão do conversor LD têm papel relevante entre os coprodutos siderúrgicos devido às suas significativas gerações, dificuldades no manuseio e acondicionamento e expressivo custo para processamento e/ou disposição. Em contrapartida, o elevado teor de ferro que possuem lhes garantem um potencial de substituição dos materiais primários nos processos metalúrgicos. Um método desenvolvido para a reciclagem do pó de aciaria LD foi a aglomeração a frio via briquetagem, para utilização como refrigerante no conversor LD. O efeito refrigerante do minério de ferro é cerca de três vezes superior ao da sucata de aço. Os briquetes de pó de aciaria LD contém ferro em diferentes estágios de oxidação e assim, seu poder refrigerante se situa em uma condição intermediária. Neste trabalho são avaliados, teórica e operacionalmente, o efeito refrigerante dos briquetes de pó de aciaria em comparação com outros refrigerantes. Considerando que a sucata tem um poder refrigerante de 340 kcal/kg, constatou-se que o poder refrigerante dos briquetes é cerca de 1,8 vezes superior ao da sucata e o poder refrigerante das pelotas é 2,8 vezes superior ao da sucata.

Neste trabalho foi estudada a influência da granulometria de CaO adicionada ao processo de desfosforação, temperatura e teor de FeO da mistura desfosforante na aglomeração de partículas sólidas na escória. Para isto, foram realizados testes laboratoriais em sete condições experimentais distintas, bem como a análise de imagens via software Quantikov, para medir a aglomeração, além de análise termodinâmica computacional. A granulometria, temperatura e porcentagem de FeO se mostraram parâmetros relevantes na aglomeração da escória de desfosforação e a análise de imagens mostrou-se uma ferramenta útil para a obtenção destes resultados.

In this article, technologies of unburned Al2O3-MgO (UAM) refractories are demonstrated in terms of microstructure evolution. During operation, Mg2+ diffuses from MgO to Al2O3 through the liquid phase to form spinel (MgAl2O4) network. Molten slag tends to penetrate along the voids in the spinel network structure and spinel dissolves in the penetrated slag. Therefore, maintaining a high degree of spinel saturation in the penetrated molten slag is important. In order to achieve the condition described above, suppression of overall mass transfer through penetrated slag is effective. This is achievable by evolution of complicated spinel network structure with small pore diameter, which increases the flow resistance of molten slag. Thus, optimization of refractory composition and fabricating conditions, with the aim of creating on improved spinel network, is essential. The effectiveness of spinel network improvement was validated by commercial applications. According to the investigation of UAM brick after use, further densification due to heating under restrained conditions was recognized. Hence, it was concluded that the evolution of the spinel network structure in UAM refractories is essential technology needed to improve durability.

The benefits of using the controlled rolling process followed by accelerated cooling (TMCP), currently used in the main rolling mills in the world are already well known and metallurgically based. The need to obtain mechanical properties with a high degree of homogeneity means that in some situations the ends of the rolled material are discarded, negatively affecting the metallic yield of the process. Therefore, this work focused on the determination of the mechanical properties variation at the ends of thick plates processed by TMCP of steels for application in oil and gas pipelines, in order to map the extent of these differences and to correlate them with the microstructure obtained, the profiles of temperature and cooling rates in these regions. To perform the work, two slabs of the studied material were rolled, and the temperature profile was recorded along the plate in the controlled rolling and accelerated cooling processes. The ends of the material were sampled in sections at every 100 mm and subjected to tensile test, hardness and the Charpy V-notch impact test, as well as dilatometry and microstructure evaluations. For the used process conditions, the results indicated the formation of a banded microstructure, basically consisting of polygonal ferrite and bainite, occasionally containing small fractions of perlite. The mechanical properties in the top and the base were higher than the values found in the plate middle, justified by the microstructure found. The work allowed understanding the relationship between the mechanical properties, microstructures and process conditions at the ends, helping the team to improve the process in order to result in a high degree of homogeneity of the product and, thus, lead to optimization of the metallic yield.

The eddy current system is universally recognized as a most suitable method to point out discontinuities or modifications on the roll surface. The automation of the controls through the implementation of sophisticated equipments on the grinding machine has favoured its employment in the roll shop. A big effort is still going on to clarify the best way to promptly identify situations that could be really unsafe for the roll life. The results presented in this paper have been obtained through an intensive activity conducted in field by Innse Cilindri on work rolls of finishing stands of hot strip mills. The correct interpretation of the eddy current signals and a good calibration of the automatic system have allowed, in many cases, a substantial optimisation of regrinding practices.

Este trabalho tem como objetivo demonstrar por meio de estudos técnico- científicos e de casos, como foram eliminadas as falhas devido a quebras dos elementos de proteção de sistemas de transmissão de torque (pinos de cisalhamento) no trem Laminador 2 (TL2) da Arcelormittal Piracicaba. A quebra de pinos de cisalhamento no TL2 são uma constante desde o inicio da operação do Laminador 2, sendo que diversas tentativas foram feitas no sentido de eliminar as quebras porem sem sucesso, o que demonstrou a necessidade de uma abordagem metodológica do problema. Este estudo, baseado na analise dos projetos dos equipamentos envolvidos e das praticas de manutenção adotada, orientou o redimensionamento dos elementos de proteção do sistema de transmissão de torque e o desenvolvimento de um novo sistema de proteção, utilizando o drive do motor para fazer a segurança do sistema de transmissão além da revisão e implantação de novas rotinas de manutenção nos equipamentos. O resultado obtido demonstrou a importância do profundo conhecimento tanto do projeto do equipamento quanto da avaliação e conhecimento empírico da manutenção de campo, conjunto este de informações que é indispensável para se garantir o desempenho dos equipamentos permitindo uma produção livre de imprevistos.

ArcelorMittal's pickling and cold rolling line has been demanded to increase production since the installation of equipments in 2015. In addition to the improvement in productivity related to these new equipment, one of them the automatic surface inspection system (SIAS), work has also been developed in other equipment seeking improvement of production indicators. The present article exposes the actions and gains that were achieved with actions on two equipments in the same section as the Side Trimmer. The first one deals with the optimization of time gains with sequencing adjustments without financial contribution, using only internal labor seeking reduction of unproductive times by adjustments of the side trimmer in the cold strip mill. The second item discussed demonstrates the actions and the gains generated due to the availability of new resources (installation of SIAS equipment), the optimization of these resources seeking a focus on the reduction of ruptures in the tandem cold mill, configuring the same in the aid of the identification of critical defects and also in the automatic speed reduction action of the tandem cold mill in defects considered serious. In both cases the intention was to improve production, seeking to improve the results of the section and the line.

O refino de grão da estrutura bruta de solidificação da liga Cu-30%Zn (latão 70/30) a partir de adições de P e Zr ao banho líquido foi investigado utilizando-se microscopia óptica, microscopia eletrônica e microanálises. Foram conduzidas medidas de tamanho médio de grão pelos métodos planimétrico e do intercepto linear e foram realizadas microanálises por espectroscopia de dispersão de energia (EDS) e de comprimento de onda (WDS). Nas amostras obtidas observa-se que, quando são adicionados P e Zr, sempre ocorre a diminuição do tamanho médio de grão em relação àquele das amostras onde apenas P é adicionado. O menor tamanho médio (? 200 ?m) ocorre para um teor de 0,16% de Zr. O refino de grão coincide com a formação de precipitados geralmente facetados, contendo Zr e P em uma proporção equivalente à da fase ZrP. Sugere-se que as adições causaram a formação de partículas sólidas de ZrP, sobre as quais ocorreu a nucleação heterogênea de grãos da fase Cu-?, resultando no refino de grão.

The Special Bar Quality family comprises a wide range of steel grades, mainly requested by the automotive, energy and engineering sectors, for applications where significant performances are required (eg. stresses, temperatures, working cycles, etc.). To meet these requirements it is necessary to reach a precise control of both the mechanical characteristics and metallurgy structures along the whole production chain. For semi-product with large dimensions, such as equivalent diameters around 300 mm, this is traditionally obtained through a manufacturing route which comprises the casting in ingots followed by reheating, forging and rolling. After 2010, new processes were investigated and technologies developed to replace the ingot route with a continuous casting followed by controlled high-reduction rolling. In these processes a seamless integration of CCM with rolling is implemented so to obtain the precise control of material flow, applied deformation and working temperatures. By using the proper combination of rolling diameter, speed and applied reduction, a very good control of the metallurgy structure across the whole section can be obtained, so to also remove the internal discontinuities ("voids") generated during the continuous casting. These processes, which can be defined "forging-like", are applicable to several grades also with large semi-product dimensions (300 mm and more). Besides, removing the ingot route means increased yield and productivity, which is very beneficial to the economical management of the plant. An example of this "forging-like" process is represented by the high-reduction blooming stand installed by Acciaierie Venete in the Padova-Camin mill. This article describes its main concepts as well as its technology and process features.

O ensaio de impacto determina a resistência e sensibilidade dos materiais quando submetidos a uma certa carga de impacto, por isto, a importância deste ensaio. Através dele conhecemos as características que um material necessita ao ser projetado de tal maneira que possa suportar a uma força de impacto. Neste trabalho, o objetivo é comparar os resultados de energia absorvida no ensaio de Charpy analógico com o ensaio de Charpy instrumentado e verificar se há uma diferença significativa entre os resultados. Para isto, ensaios são realizados baseados em normas técnicas, neste caso a norma ASTM E23 [4]. Após os ensaios observou-se que os resultados do Charpy analógico e do Charpy instrumentado não obtiveram diferença significativa para todas as amostras ensaiadas. Em critério de avaliação dos resultados utilizamos a norma ASTM E2298 [8].

Currently the industries of paint have directed their efforts on cleaner production of products that provide effective performance in corrosion protection of metallic materials. This work search introduce a new alternative of organic coating, without the presence of hazardous metals and replace equipments commercials used method of anodic protection for protection of oxidized metals. From this it, was produced Smart Paint (SP), consisting of Paint Acrylic Commercial (PAC) mixed the 1 % of binder, compound by the conducting polymer, Polyaniline Emeraldine Base (PAni EB) and plasticizer 4-chloro-3-methylphenol. The SP and PAC were applied to plates of carbon steel AISI 1010, with the aid of dip coat technique and then were subjected to drying for 48 h. The SP was characterized by thermals and physicochemical analyzes in order to verify possible changes in chemical properties of the ink produced, beyond perform electrochemical tests of Open Circuit Potential and Electrochemical Impedance Spectroscopy, employing equipment Potentiostat/Galvanostat Autolab PGSTAT302 Ecochemie, and aqueous 2 mol.L-1 of H2SO4. The results obtained allow us to state that the plasticizer does not alter the electrochemical properties of PAni and application of binder PAni EB to PAC does not alter the physicochemical properties of commercial coating. The binder PAni EB adds to PAC the capacity to induce the formation or maintenance of protective oxides in oxidizable metals submitted to harsh environments, method known as anodic corrosion protection.

O Alto-Forno é o principal equipamento em uso para a produção do ferro gusa. Para a redução do minério de ferro em gusa são alimentados pelo topo do alto forno a carga composta por minério de ferro, carvão vegetal ou coque e calcário. Durante o processo de redução os gases redutores ascendentes entram em contato com a carga e geram pós no interior do alto forno. Para que esse resíduo não seja lançado diretamente na atmosfera é necessário que haja a recuperação desse material particulado e uma das etapas é a lavagem da poeira do gás de alto-forno que permite a separação dos particulados sólidos na forma de lama, denominada lama de alto-forno. O objetivo do presente trabalho é a caracterização físico e química da lama do alto-forno a carvão vegetal de uma siderúrgica integrada localizada na região sudeste do estado do Pará, e assim fornecer subsídios para estudos que busquem o reaproveitamento desse resíduo através da sinterização para torná-lo um material mais reativo e dar uma destinação ecologicamente correta e de acordo com as normas ambientas. Para isso, foram realizadas, em laboratório, análises como a granulometria, massa específica, difratometria de raios - x e fluorescência de raios - x. Os teores dos óxidos predominantes foram 57,33 % de Fe2O3, 8,14 % de CaO, 5,6 % de SiO2 e 1,37 % de ZnO).

O aço inoxidável duplex combina as propriedades mecânicas da ferrita e a resistência à corrosão da austenita, sendo muito utilizado em aplicações industriais que requerem um bom desempenho. Quando submetido a deformações intensas, a austenita transforma-se parcialmente em martensita, aumentando a resistência do aço. Quando o aço é recozido, essa transformação é revertida e a martensita se transforma em austenita, ocasionando um refino de grão do material. Fases secundárias formadas durante o recozimento podem prejudicar suas propriedades mecânicas e corrosivas. Nesse sentido, o objetivo desse trabalho foi avaliar o efeito da temperatura de recozimento na resistência à corrosão do aço inoxidável duplex UNS S32304 laminado a frio. O aço foi submetido à laminação a frio, com deformação de 60%, e posteriormente recozido nas temperaturas de 600°C, 700°C, 800°C e 900°C por um tempo de 0,5 h. A resistência à corrosão foi estudada através da técnica de polarização potenciodinâmica. A laminação a frio promoveu a formação de martensita induzida por deformação (SIM) e a reversão parcial começou a ser observada após recozimento a 600ºC. A ocorrência de SIM promoveu significativa diminuição do potencial de pite e o aumento da temperatura de recozimento aumentou a resistência à corrosão localizada.

Currently there is a constant and essential concern of preserving nature. Over the years the concern with the environment is increasing, new environmental laws are emerging and being applied more rigorously and consequently emerge economic needs and mineral processing practices and other materials. In this sense briquetting becomes an alternative to fine particles agglomeration by means of pressure and or temperature, with the aid or not of a binder, which allows to get a product not only compressed, which presents shape, size, and adequate mechanical properties. The reduction in volume of the material in some cases (beyond the technological benefits) also allows fine materials can be transported and stored more economically, safely and effectively. The production of coke is greater as the content of better coking coal is, thus he low capacity coking coal is not much used in coke ovens. This research aims to demonstrate that briquetting of mineral coals with low coking coal capacity is possible, additionally allows increased coke production, obtaining then a better yield of coke. Basically they take advantage of low price of no coking coals without changing the quality of the coke produced. Anyway, briquetting became a smart alternative to aggregate values, economy and care for the environment.

A CMnSiAl transformation induced plasticity (TRIP) steel was used to study the effect of retained austenite on room-temperature mechanical properties. The steel plates with retained austenite were obtained by hot rolling, cold rolling and subsequent continuous annealing. The starting and finishing temperature of hot rolling are between Ac1 and Ac3. Reduction ratio of cold rolling is 75%. The continuous annealing is carried out at different intercritical temperatures. The relationship between work hardening exponent and retained austenite was discussed. The results show that, the Ac1 and Ac3 were much high because of the alloy elements, and the temperature range between them was wide. Due to the high hot rolling temperature, the grains was hereditarily refined as a result of dynamic recrystallization. Annealing at intercritical temperature of 930 ºC, retained austenite with relatively high stability reached a maximum volume fraction of 25%, a maximum total elongation of 30.2% and a best ultimate tensile strength × total elongation of 20.1 GPa·%. Instantaneous work hardening exponent reflects strengthening mechanisms at different strain stages. The TRIP effect of retained austenite is the main mechanism during deformation. With retained austenite of sufficient amount and high stability, continuous work hardening was observed in the tensile specimen of 930 ºC.

The characterisation of iron ore from a materials handling point of view is paramount in order to provide the best possible design for the desired application and maximise equipment uptime at the lowest possible capital and operational expenditure. Problematic issues in materials handling applications often arise in the iron ore industry due to the high density of the ore as well as the abrasive nature of the product. One of the key issues encountered during the handling of iron ore is excessive wear due to either impact or sliding abrasion. The applications and equipment typically affected by accelerated wear issues are mass flow hoppers, transfer chutes and conveyor belts. These wear issues often result in unplanned down times and loss in production which can lead to a considerable loss in revenue. This paper provides an overview of the best practises in the materials handling characterisation of iron ore and discusses available techniques for the modelling of iron ore in applications where accelerated wear is experienced. The application is illustrated through a number of industry relevant case studies for which engineering design work was undertaken to successfully reduce the wear rates of different materials handling equipment.

Danieli complemented its wide range of production plants for the iron and steel industry with a further step upstream into iron ore pelletizing and beneficiation. Danieli has engineered and constructed a state of the art and fully automated pilot plant facility – pot grate and sinter box – at Altos Hornos de Mexico S.A. (AHMSA) Pelletizing Plant, Monclova, Mexico. Installation and commissioning were completed in October 2009. Key features of the pot grate include the avoidance of the need for operator intervention during the test, automatic system preheat, absence of dead time, heat recuperation system with an air/air heat exchanger, oxygen control in preheating and firing with zirconia oxygen analyzer, possibility to test deep beds up to 625 mm. A series of projects have been accomplished by AHMSA availing of the pot grate facility with the aim to enhance pellet plant productivity and to reduce operating costs. The results obtained by use of Danieli pot grate combined with the experience and skill of plant operators has shown significant technical and economical benefits thus fully justifying the initial investment made by AHMSA and confirming the importance of having an in-house testing facility in order to optimize industrial plant operations.

O aço inoxidável austenítico alto nitrogênio ISO 5832-9 tem sido promissor na manufatura de próteses ortopédicas com resistência mecânica e de corrosão superiores a do aço tradicional ASTM F-138. Pesquisas recentes têm mostrado que esta liga apresenta resultados peculiares, tais como alta resistência mecânica, resistência à corrosão e presença de partículas de segunda fase (Fase Z) na matriz. Entretanto, não se sabe como se dá a correlação mecânica-microestrutural e de taxa de corrosão em regiões de processabilidade industrial desta liga na conformação a quente de peças. No presente trabalho, ensaios sob torção a quente isotérmico contínuo e interrompidos foram realizados após tratamento térmico de solubilização a 1.200oC, por 300 s com intervalos de temperatura variando entre 1.000°C e 1.200oC com taxa de deformação variando entre 0,05 e 5 s-1, para investigar a trabalhabilidade e a taxa de corrosão sob tensão desta liga com aplicação da técnica de espectroscopia de impedância eletroquímica e caracterização microestrutural, conduzida por microscopia óptica e varredura. Os resultados mostram que a tensão de escoamento é sensível aos parâmetros de deformação. O pico de tensão diminui com o aumento da temperatura e redução da taxa de deformação com alta taxa de recuperação dinâmica com grãos alongados, gerando regiões de acúmulo de tensão. Essas regiões de instabilidade plástica apresentam grau de corrosão superior em relação às amostras como-recebidas. As regiões de alta temperatura e baixa taxa de deformação apresentam boa trabalhabilidade com microestrutura final refinada com grãos recristalizados dinamicamente.
