O presente estudo apresenta a avaliação microestrutural de duas ligas Fe-Ni-Cr com composições químicas distintas submetidas à corrosão em altas temperaturas em tubos de pirólise em uma planta de fabricação de polímeros durante três anos. A superfície e a seção transversal das ligas foram caracterizadas por microscopia eletrônica de varredura e espectroscopia por dispersão de energia de Raios-X. As condições de serviço induziram a formação de uma camada de óxido na superfície das ligas composta por uma região externa e outra interna além de uma região empobrecida em cromo abaixo da camada de óxido. Uma das ligas apresentou também uma zona de oxidação interna. O estágio de modificação microestrutural de ambas as ligas foi analisado e comparado com resultados de outros autores.

"Installation of permanent soil nails through distressed mechanically stabilized earth retaining walls is a cost effective and aesthetically pleasing solution when using the appropriate equipment and drilling methods for installation. A forensic investigation was performed on an existing mechanically stabilized earth retaining wall to determine the possible causes for the excessive horizontal displacements and visual structural flaws found along a portion of the wall. Reports concluded that the visual shifting was due to a number of factors including improper drainage in the vicinity of the wall and unsuitable compaction of the backfill material. Conceptual designs were proposed to the owner and the installation of permanent soil nails through the existing precast panels was determined to be the most practical solution. A total of ninety-three permanent soil nails were installed to lengths of up to 40 feet (12 m) through sand backfill and silty day fill using a hydraulic rotary percussion drill attached to a tract mounted excavator.IntroductionThe Illinois State Toll Highway Authority awarded Contract RR-03-5144 in the summer of 2004. Construction work for the project consisted of the rehabilitation of two existing concrete culverts and approximately 100 linear feet (31 m) of mechanically stabilized earth (MSE) retaining wall. The retaining wall is located below the southbound lanes of the Tri-State Tollway near the intersection of Federal Highway 41 in Wadsworth, Illinois as shown in Figure 1.Reports were prepared by Applied Technologies in cooperation with Giles Engineering Associates to determine the condition of the MSE wall and recommended conceptual designs to extend the service life of the wall.Nicholson Construction Company (Nicholson) wasselected as the design-build geotechnical subcontractor to install the recommended permanent soil nails through the existing precast concrete panels of the MSE wall. Rehabilitation of the wall involved the installation of ninety-three permanent soil nails through the existing wall, along with soil nail verification tests and proof tests on production nails."

Owing mainly to the use of ethylene dibromide in the production of tetraethyl lead for gasoline treatment, there has been a tremendous increase during the past decade in the demand for bromine. In the United States, production, derived mainly as a by-product from the treatment of brines from salt wells, rose steadily from about two million pounds in 1924 to nine million pounds in 1931. In 1936, production amounted to between 20 and 21 million pounds. Much of the increase during the past four or five years has been due to the operation of the Ethyl-Dow Chemical Company's plant, which extracts bromine directly from sea water. The process employed by the Ethyl-Dow Company is somewhat similar to that in use on salt-well brines at their plant at Midland, Michigan, but whereas these brines contain around 1,300 parts per million bromine, sea water contains only 65 to 70 p.p.m.-about as much as the waste effluent in the brine process. By intensive research, however, a process was developed whereby a very considerable percentage of the bromine content of sea water could be recovered, and at a satisfactory operating cost. In its essentials, the process consists in liberating the bromine from the sea water by treat-ment with chlorine, blowing the bromine out of the water by a current of air, and finally absorbing it in a solution of soda-ash.

It wasn’t until the late 1920s that it was solved for good, with the introduction of nitrated ethylene glycol as a partial replacement for nitroglycerin in dynamites. The sulfur dioxide emitted in low concentrations in flue gases from the combustion of sulfur-containing coals and fuel oils is a significant factor in contamination of the atmosphere with sulfur dioxide. A review of methods for treating gases containing high concentrations of sulfur dioxide shows that they are seldom satisfactory for purifying flue gases. Processes developed specifically for treating flue gases using liquid absorbents are costly and may cause localized pollution, because the cooled flue gases can settle in the vicinity of the stack. Bench-scale research is being conducted to investigate the use of dry absorbents for sulfur dioxide removal at temperature levels of about 250°- 300° F. and 600°-650° F. Alkalized alumina has been found effective for treating simulated flue gas and Is regenerable by hydrogen, carbon monoxide, or producer gas. Other metallic oxides have been tested as absorbents also. Chemically impregnated activated carbons removed sulfur dioxide from the gas at 265° F. Vanadium pentoxide is effective as a catalyst for oxidizing of sulfur dioxide in the simulated flue gas at temperatures lower than have been used commercially for gases with higher concentrations of sulfur dioxide. Conversions of sulfur dioxide to trioxide wore studied as a function of temp- erature over a range of about 570° to 750° F.

A moderately thermophilic acidophiles strain had been isolated from the bio-heap leaching plant in Zijinshan Copper Mine, and the identification based on the PCR-16S rRNA gene sequence homology analysis with morphologic and physiologic methods was conducted by polyphasic taxono-my and phylogeny research. The results show that the strain by depurated belongs to Acidthiobacillus genus and is considered as Acidthiobacillus albertensis.

Solid wastes produced in ironmaking and steelmaking off-gas cleaning systems often contain zinc. The zinc level in these solid wastes is generally too high to recycle the wastes for iron through blast furnaces, but too low to economically treat the wastes for zinc through zincrecovery facilities. The behavior, status, and distribution of zinc in the ironmaking and steelmaking off-gas cleaning systems have been analyzed from three aspects: thermodynamics of zinc condensation, oxidation and deposition, correlation of zinc concentration with particle size and density, and aerodynamics of dust particles in the off-gas cleaning systems. Theory and supporting data show that spontaneous separation of zinc from iron-bearing dust occurs in the ironmaking and steelmaking off-gas cleaning systems. Dry off-gas cleaning systems provide the most favorable conditions and environments for zinc to separate from the dust. If highefficiency dry separators were applied and appropriately arranged in the off-gas cleaning systems, zinc would be concentrated, and the majority of the solid wastes could be recycled for iron recovery through blast furnaces.

Sublevel stoping is commonly adopted method in underground hard rock mining. Proper planning and its execution is the key requirement for stope extraction using this method. The stope extraction has been a challenging task since decades. The major reason being the unavailability of free faces as compared to open cast bench blasting. The geological and geotechnical parameters changes gradually even within the stope itself. So the blast design parameters should be planned according to the scenario of upcoming ring. Blast design parameters like burden, toe spacing, inclination of blast holes, diameter of blast holes, charge density of explosive etc plays an immense role in rock damage. For the proper breakage of rock, the movement of burden is prime objective. To study this, explicit dynamic based modeller of M/s Ansys was used. The burden values were varied from 20-65 times diameter to assess optimum burden value during the study. The models were simulated for the rock having 35 MPa uniaxial compressive strength and 102 mm blast hole diameter. Altogether three holes were blasted having hole depth 14-14.5m. The blast design parameters and respective blast induced ground vibration has been measured at the experimental site. Core sample of the rock of experimental site has been used for the evaluation of geotechnical parameters. These geotechnical parameters were inserted into the simulation model. The volume of rock excavated along free face has been calculated in each model. It has been found that the burden value can varies from 35-40 times blast hole diameter (3.6-4.1m) to achieve greater volume of rock along the free face for 102 mm blast hole diameter and rock of 35 MPa uniaxial compressive strength.

No one who has visited our Western mining districts, and studied the economical part of the beneficiation of the ores occurring all over that vast extent of country, can underrate the high importance of the above subject. By far the larger number of the districts which contain smelting ores, i.e., argentiferous and auriferous lead, or copper ores, are situated in the Great Basin, that great plateau between the Rocky Mountains on the east, and the Sierra Nevada on the west, almost the whole of which is comprised at present in the boundaries of Nevada, Utah, and part of Arizona. This region is essentially a barren country. The extreme dryness of the atmosphere permits but a scanty vegetation in the plains ; and even in the detached mountain-chains running through it-generally from N. to S., or from N. W. to S. E.-there are no trees found except dwarfed pines and mahogany, at the head of sheltered ravines, and a few cottonwoods and willows, which fringe the insignificant streams, before the water sinks in the arid plains. Nearly all the mountain-chains in this region are rich in silver ores. That class of these ores which is adapted to amalgamation, and rich in silver, has been worked with profit for more than ten years. But before the advent of the transcontinental railways, mining was restricted to these ores alone, and the consumption of fuel could be met with the scanty supply of forest trees in the immediate vicinity of the mining districts. Since, however, the Union and Central Pacific Railroads have brought the Great Basin nearer to the commercial centres of the East and the Pacific coast, thus reducing the expenses of freight and labor materially, other silver deposits, containing poorer ores in greater abundance, have been rapidly taken

"IntroductionTHE PROPERTY of Madsen Red Lake Gold Mines. Limited. comprises fifty-eight claims located between Russet and Faulkenham lakes in Baird and Heyson townships of the Patricia portion of the District of Kenora. The mine is seven miles •by road from the hamlet of Red Lake. This latter centre is .connected to the Trans-Canada Highway at Vermillion Bay, Ontario, by provincial highway No. 105 which has a total length of one hundred and thirteen miles.The Madsen property went into production on August 11th, 1938, with a milling plant rated at 300 tons per twenty-four hours. Changes made in the crushing plant during October, 1938, allowed a •finer feed to be delivered to the mill and increased the milling •capacity to 400 tons per twenty-four hours. During 1948, steps were taken to add an additional 400-ton capacity unit to the milling plant. This latter work was completed by May, 1949, giving the present total milling .capacity of 800 tons per twenty-four hours.It was realized in the early 1940's that, eventually, considerable material suitable for backfilling in the mine would be required. As there were no large deposits of gravel or sand anywhere near the mine, officials of the Company considered it advisable to investigate the feasibility of using mill tailings for mine •backfill. Since Madsen mill tailings contain approximately 80 per •cent of minus-200-mesh material, it was not considered practical to use them for underground backfill without first removing the finer material. as the slimes present in a product of this fineness would without doubt preclude any drainage whatsoever. Table I gives a sizing analysis of Madsen mill tailings and Table II a quantitative chemical analysis of the ore."

IN the study of reactions occurring in liquid iron, alone or in contact with a liquid oxide or slag phase, it has been found that the experimental data over a limited range of concentration can in some cases be repre-sented satisfactorily by the simple equilibrium expression K - (p1)p1 (p2)p2 . (R1)r1(R2)r2 . where (P) denotes the concentration of a product and (R) the concentra-tion of a reactant in the reaction r1R1 + r2R2 + . . . Some of the reactions for which it holds are listed in Table 1. For others, however, the simple equation apparently does not hold. This has been attributed to an improper method of expressing concentration (for instance, weight per cent instead of mol fraction); or it has been supposed that the solutions are not ideal in the sense that the activity of a com-ponent is not proportional to its true mol fraction, But it may be that the problem has been oversimplified by neglecting some molecular species actually present; that is, by considering only the ostensible simple com-ponents and thus leaving out of account possible compound formation. It is the purpose of the present paper to point out how, in a group of related cases, a reasonable consistent assumption relative to the presence of a compound makes it possible to express the experimental data satis-factorily by the simple equilibrium expression when this compound is taken into account, and to bring into harmony data referring to different reactions in liquid iron. There are several a priori reasons for believing that solutions in liquid iron should not deviate far from ideality, provided that the concentration of solute is not too great and is expressed in proper terms. The factors that commonly lead to nonideality in systems at ordinary temperature as ionization or the occurrence of polar and nonpolar molecules-are presumably less effective in metal and in slag systems at high temperature. In studies made by the United States Bureau of Mines to determine the causes of explosions in medium-pressure acetylene generators , it was shown that when these are operated at elevated temperatures the acetylene liberated in an acetylene generator carries enough water vapor to heat certain types of carbides to a high temperature , when the acetylene- water vapor mixtures are passed through the carbide . This report contains results of further work carried out to develop an apparatus to show the heating effects or reactivity of various types of carbides in contact with acetylene - water vapor mixtures .

The Bureau of Mines has developed a damage-resistant brattice, intended for use as a stopping in locations where blast damage to stoppings is a problem, the roof is relatively flat, and the differential pressure across the stopping is not high. Damage-resistant brattices consist of a series of vertically hung brattice panels joined to each other by Velcro connections that improve the airtightness of the brattice. When the brattice is subjected to strong blast forces, the Velcro connections peel apart, allowing the panels to open without incurring damage. The Velcro connections can then be resealed in a matter of minutes. A preliminary test in the Bureau's Safety Research Mine and subsequent long-term testing at the White Pine copper mine in Michigan and the Retsof salt mine in New York show that damage-resistant brattices withstand blasting better than conventional stoppings, while still performing as efficient air barriers when the Velcro connections are sealed.

The compensation-insurance rates for quarrying in North Carolina are 11 times higher than for the State?s major industry, textiles. Some operators are willing to accept this as representing the ratio of existing hazards. This was not true of the management of the Southern Aggregates Corporation, and in 1935 it tools definite steps to correct the idea of its local officials and employees that loss of life and limb in quarries is inevitable. The only economically important mineral currently produced in Bangladesh was natural gas. Bangladesh was not a world? ranked producer of any mineral commodity, but the possibility of producing and exporting commercial amounts of liquefied natural gas (LNG) was being examined. Proved reserves of natural gas were sufficient to supply most of the country's industrial and domestic heating and electric needs and still support an export-oriented LNG plant. Other mineral production was of virtually no significance to the economy, although there were a few prospects for nonmetallic mineral development. Bangladesh continued to make economic progress during 1978 and into early 1979. Gross domestic product (GDP) at current prices rose from $6.6 billion in 1976-772 to $8.2 billion in 1977?78 and $9.3 billion in 1978.79.2 In fiscal 1979, the economic conditions were favorable until a severe drought hit most of the country. It W88 reported that conditions were the worst in 40 years, and 88 of July 1979, substantial crop losses were predicted. The agricultural sector accounts for over 53% of the GDP and about 75% of all employment. The poor weather will cause economic problems in the form of slower growth, larger trade deficits, and a higher rate of inflation. The 1978.79 statistics showed that real GDP increased just 4%.

Wide settlers are a way to decrease the linear velocities of advancing liquid phases. It has, however, been found unnecessary to risk a proper settler performance by building shallow settlers in order to avoid a so-called interface turbulence due to a too big difference between the linear velocities of the organic and the aqueous phase. This conclusion has been reached from tests using a large transparent settler model, where the behaviour of a clean interface between two advancing liquids has been investigated. Also in a more realistic case, making an organic in aqueous or an aqueous in organic dispersion to move between the liquid phases, no obstacle has been found to use a somewhat more deep and correspondingly ore slowly t10wing aqueous phase. Based on above findings, support can be given to a new trend to build the settlers slightly deeper than what has been typical for the so-called low-profile design. In this way, it is much easier to avoid an excessive air introduction and other severe difficulties, like those caused by crud moving from one stage to another. It is further shown, how gravity can be used to slow down and distribute a dispersion being fed into a settler of a VSF unit. Entrainment levels have been found to be reduced by a careful design of primary dispersion distributors and picket fences of the settler. Finally, it is demonstrated, how outlets from the side of the settler can be used to simplity interstage pumping and to decrease the rotation speed of any pumping device.

En ese sentido, el presente texto señala el análisis económico y tecnógico de Latinoamérica frente a la demandas de tres potencias industriales (EE.UU., Europa Occidental y Japón) que, al mismo tiempo son los principales clientes. Para mantener su ritmo de desarrollo industrial, Latinoamérica necesita divisas provenientes de la exportación de materias primas, donde la conservación de los mercados y el aprovechamiento de los mismos. Asimismo, es necesario un mayor grado de elaboración y purificación de materias primas y que la producción de productos minerales sea de alta calidad a precios competitivos.

During the mineral processing of pyrites sulphide ores of some deposits of Russia loss of gold with tailings and pyrite concentrates amounts up to 40%~90%. The problem of selective allocation of gold-bearing pyrite is crucial. There are 4 mineralogy-technological groups of pyrite determined in copper-zinc sulphide ores, based on the increase of contents of gold in pyrite. The gold associated with group 4 pyrite contents of 85% the total mass of gold found in the pyrite. The flotation behaviour of the enriched fractions of pyrite (98%), of the allocated from the ore of Gay deposit, were studied essentially in various conditions ?? and the charge of Butyl xanthogenate of potassium (ButX). Some products of selective pyrite flotation were investigated by methods of scanning electronic microscopy, energy-dispersive and X-ray spectral microanalyses, definition of specific resistance and thermoelectric moving force.

The occurrence of oil- and gas-springs in the State of New York has been a fact of historical record since 1627, when the existence of the Cuba oil-spring was first recorded. The utilization of natural gas at Fredonia in 1821 attracted the attention of the public to the possibility of obtaining an illuminating gas by digging and drilling into the rocks. No active search was made, however, for oil or gas by the drilling of wells until after the discovery of commercial oil in Pennsylvania in 1859. In 1862 a well was drilled at Bradford, McKean County, Pennsylvania, but a few miles south of the New York state line, to the depth of 200 feet, in search of the oil-sand which had been found at Titusville, Oil City, and at other points in Western Pennsylvania.
