"In this work, a novel compound 4-Amino-5-mercapto-1,2,4-triazole was first synthesized and its selective adsorption mechanism on the surface of chalcopyrite was comprehensively investigated using UV-vis spectra, zeta potential, Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy(FTIR), X-ray Photoelectron Spectrscpy Measurements(XPS), and Time of Flight Secondary Ion Mass Spectrometry (ToF-SIMS) and first principle calculations. The experimental and computational results consistently demonstrated that AMT would chemisorb onto the chalcopyrite surface by the formation of a five-membered chelate ring. The first principle periodic calculations further indicated that AMT would prefer to adsorb onto Cu rather than Fe due to the more negative adsorption energy of AMT on Cu on the chalcopyrite (001) surface, which was further confirmed by the coordination bonding energies of AMT-Cu and AMT-Fe based on the simplified cluster models at a higher accuracy level (UB3LYP/Def2TZVP). The bench scale results indicated that the selective index improved significantly when using AMT as a potential chalcopyrite depressant in Cu-Mo flotation separation.INTRODUCTIONFroth flotation is one of the most important processes to separate valuable minerals from gangue by taking advantage of differences in the physical chemistry of their surface properties(Laitinen et al., 2014), particularly in their surface hydrophobicity. Hydrophobicity differences between valuable and gangue minerals could be regulated by adding different chemical additives (surfactants)(Kor, Korczyk, Addai-Mensah, Krasowska, & Beattie, 2014), such as collector and depressant. It could be conducted economically to selectively separate and enrich the complicated and/or poor ores, by adopting appropriate surfactants. For example, the beneficiation of molybdenite usually relies on a two-stage process to realize flotation separation of molybdenite from other unwanted sulphide ores(Wie & Fuerstenau, 1974). In the first step, a bulk molybdenite concentrate is produced by utilizing kerosene/ diesel oil and pine oil/alcohols as collector and frother, respectively. Second, sodium hydrosulphide, sodium cyanide, ammonium sulphide, or Nokes reagent are adopted as depressants in the separation stage. However, these depressants are usually toxicant and cannot meet the requirements of environmental protection. A large number of efforts have been taken to develop alternative environmentally-friendly depressants (Ansari & Pawlik, 2007; J. H. Chen, Lan, & Liao, 2013; Li et al., 2015; Yin, Sun, Hu, Zhai, & Guan, 2017; Yin, Sun, Hu, Zhang, Guan, Liu, et al., 2017; Yin et al., 2016). Although some novel and environmental-friendly depressants have been reported to achieve good performance in Cu-Mo flotation separation at a laboratory scale, there are still some challenging problems, including toxicity, high price or poor performance in practice, which severely limit their practical applications in Cu-Mo flotation separation on a commercial scale."

"Clays are present in a large number of mineral deposits and are commonly found as gangue. Its complex chemical structure, characterised by anisotropic surfaces, makes its presence a permanent challenge for flotation operations, increasing the reagent consumption, decreasing the quality of the concentrate, and changing the rheological properties of the system. In this context, the main objective of this research is to improve the floatability of chalcopyrite minerals in the presence of clays by using guar gum, a low molecular weight organic polymer, which acts as a surface coating agent for clays. Clay Minerals Society provided the kaolinite sample and the chalcopyrite sample was purified from mineralized rock specimens obtained from Ward’s Natural Science Establishment. Micro flotation tests were carried out in a 150 cm3 Partridge-Smith cell, using compressed air as the gas phase at a flow rate of 80 cm3/min. Potassium amyl xanthate (PAX) and methyl isobutyl carbinol (MIBC) were used as a collector and a frother, respectively. The results showed that the use of guar gum improves the recovery of chalcopyrite in the presence of kaolinite because it induces the formation of clay aggregates that settle by gravitational effects, preventing the 'coating effect' and decreasing excessive collector consumption. pH played a key role in the guar gum performance, which was most effective at highly alkaline conditions (pH 11), where the copper recovery improved from 73% to 90%. The work has significant implications for the mineral flotation in the presence of clay minerals.INTRODUCTION The mining industry is continuously confronted with challenges that alert the sustainability of the sector. There is little availability of water, the grade of the deposits are getting smaller, and the gangue is becoming more complex. Usually, clays are part of the gangue in numerous systems, including copper ore, porphyry, nickel, platinum, etc. (Senior & Thomas, 2005). The structure is mainly composed of layers of tetrahedral silica (T) and octahedral alumina (O) that join in certain proportions: 1: 1 (T-O) and 2: 1 (T-O-T) (Theng, 2012). Also, they expose two crystallographically different surfaces: the faces, which tend to be negatively charged, and the edges, which carry a charge that changes from positive to negative depending on the pH (Van Olphen, 1977). One of the most common clays in copper deposits is kaolinite, whose structure is composed of an octahedral sheet of gibbsite bound to a tetrahedral silica sheet in the ratio 1:1"

"Tin sulfide ores and aged man-made products obtained after their processing are distinguished by a complex material composition and uneven impregnation of sulfide minerals (chalcopyrite, galena, arsenopyrite, etc.) and tin ore (cassiterite). Enrichment of such ores is performed through sophisticated multistage schemes using not only gravitational methods, but also gravity flotation, flotation, magnetic separation techniques. Tin ores also contain rare and precious metals (indium, scandium, silver), characterized by fine dispersity and microscale to nanoscale fineness of mineral formations. During flotation concentration these metals are extracted along with the main ore minerals into concentrates (tin, copper, tungsten, etc.), however, up to 10-20 % of them are lost with final tailings. The aim of the work is an experimental study of the modification of the surface of sulfide minerals and cassiterite by stable metal-collector complexes to increase extraction of fine tin, silver, copper and other metals from complex tin ores. Triamide cyanuric acid (TCA) was studied as a thin silver flotation modifier. Thermophilic polymer with a functional group of phenylphosphine TMPPh was used as a selective flocculant. For experimental studies of the physical and chemical effects of collecting agents on the surface of minerals the following analytical techniques were used - the analytical scanning electron emission ASEM (LEO 1420VP INCA OXFORD ENERGY 350) and laser (KEYENCE VK-9700) microscopy, measurements of electrode potentials of mineral anthills by potentiometric titration, monomineral and pulp flotation. New data on formation of the adsorbed layer of DBDTC on the surface of chalcopyrite, galena and arsenopyrite were obtained, and the dimensions of the reagent films and the strength of their adsorption. The indiscriminateness of cassiterite to DBDTC ensures its selective separation into a chamber product during the flotation of sulfides. It is shown, that modification of the sulfide surface by stable complexes Me-DBDTC and Ag-TCA-TMPPh will increase the recovery of non-ferrous metals and silver into a collective sulfide concentrate and will provide a high-quality tin concentrate for flotation of tin sulfide ores.The studies were perfomed with the aid of the Russian Science Foundation (Project No. 17-17-01292).INTRODUCTIONTin sulfide ores and aged man-made products obtained after their processing are distinguished by a complex material composition and uneven impregnation of sulfide minerals (chalcopyrite, galena, arsenopyrite, etc.) and tin ore (cassiterite). "The Talnakh Concentrator was put into operation in 1981 using a direct selective process to produce copper, nickel and pyrrhotite concentrates.In 2001, a novel selective-bulk-selective (SBS) technology for the concentration of massive sulfide ore was implemented, that allowed to increase the valuable components recovery into target concentrates with feedstock grinding coarser than before. In 2003-2005, the process upgrading included the differentiated processing of nickelpyrrhotite products recovered at the different concentration stages and made it possible to significantly enhance the contrast of the pentlandite and pyrrhotite flotation properties and to simultaneously increase separation of polymineral intergrowths.The next stage of the PD concentration complex development is the Project ""Talnakh Concentrator Reconstruction and Technical Upgrading"" to raise its capacity by half. The project has three Phases.• Phase 1. Pilot startup was carried out in January 2015 following the installation of new OK-100 TC flotation machines, manufactured by Outotec.• Phase 2. The introduction of a new technology developed by the Polar Division specialists launched in mid-2016. The new technology is based on maximization of iron and sulfur removal into tailings and maintenance of non-ferrous and precious metals losses at the same level.After the realization of Phase 3, the annual capacity of the Talnakh Concentrator will raise by another ~ 40% at the expense of processing cuprous and disseminated ores currently being processed by the Norilsk Concentrator.By 2023, due to upgrading of the PD production facilities the emissions to the atmosphere will reduce by 75%.Polar Division of PJSC MMC Norilsk Nickel (PD) searches for the ways to solve its environmental issues. Thus, in 2016, the Nickel Plant was shutdown and a new flowsheet was introduced at Talnakh Concentrator. It resulted in the reduction of sulfur specific amount sent to pyrometallurgical processing as a component of the concentrates.The Talnakh Concentrator was put into operation in 1981 using a direct selective process to produce copper, nickel and pyrrhotite concentrates.In 1981, its design capacity for processing of Cu-Ni ores from Oktyabrsky and Taimyrsky Mines did not exceed 3 million tons per year.In 2001, a novel selective-bulk-selective (SBS) technology for the concentration of massive sulfide ore was implemented at the Talnakh Concentrator, that allowed to increase the valuable components recovery into target concentrates with feedstock grinding coarser than before."

"Electrical steels are used in motors, power generators, and transformers for electrical applications owing to their superior magnetic properties. These properties are attributed to the presence of a significant amount of silicon in the steel composition. Silicon steels are mainly grouped into two categories: grain-oriented (GO) and non-grain-oriented (NGO). The Si content of silicon steels is generally between about 0.50% and 6.5%. Therefore, silicon steels are further classified as low-, medium-, and high- Si steels. In this paper, liquid steel processing practices for certain silicon steel grades are outlined by considering a steelmaking company that integrates a basic oxygen furnace (BOF), a ladle furnace (LF), and an RHtype degassing unit (RH). Possible problems are identified, suggestions are discussed, and conclusions are drawn on the basis of real plant data. However, the differences in the properties and thermomechanical production of GO and NGO grades are outside the scope of this paper. In this study, liquid steel processing of certain silicon steels will be discussed. In the integrated iron and steelmaking process, converters are the primary steelmaking units that are used mainly for decarburization and removal of phosphorus, and for obtaining liquid steel with a specific chemical composition and suitable temperature for secondary steelmaking operations. Ladle furnaces are a type of ladle metallurgy station consisting of electrical and/or chemical heating facilities for adjusting the liquid steel temperature during alloying. Various types of vacuum units are used for decarburization and removal of nitrogen, hydrogen, and sulphur, depending on the metallurgical conditions of the vacuum units. In this study, an actual steel-production company is considered in which the primary steelmaking operation uses a basic oxygen furnace (BOF) converter with N2/Ar bottom blowing, and the secondary steelmaking operations involve (1) a ladle furnace (LF) heated by three graphite electrodes and equipped with Ar and N2 top/bottom mixing facilities, and (2) an RHtype (circulation) vacuum degassing unit equipped with a top-blowing attachment for oxygen blowing and an Ar-purging system from an up-leg snorkel."

"Evaporites, such as salt and potash, pose unique problems to ground-support designs not encountered in other rock types. Evaporites are subject to continual creep and no amount of ground support can successfully arrest this process. Common ground-support techniques that are useful for most rock types may reduce the effective life of bolts in evaporite mines and can create unseen hazards. A different approach to ground support must be applied to provide long-term support in areas where high creep rates are present. The goal of effective ground-support designs in these situations is not to contain the rock and prevent it from moving; rather, the ground-support design must be able to move along with the rock and contain any fully detached slabs until additional remediation measures can be undertaken. The most appropriate ground-support designs will consider both the expected movement of the rock and the duration that the area needs to remain accessible.INTRODUCTIONEvaporites, such as salt and potash, pose unique problems to ground-support designs not encountered in other rock types. The factors that must be considered in design stem from the deformation behavior of salt, which can fail in a brittle manner, akin to most rocks, but can also deform in a slow, ductile manner, resembling the stretching and elongation of steel. The deformation behavior of salt has been well established in technical circles where it has been studied for decades (Hardy and Langer, 1984). Much of the research in salt mechanics is related to repository science, specifically at the Waste Isolation Pilot Plant (WIPP) in southwest New Mexico. RESPEC has been continually involved in the WIPP from the initial design considerations (Gnirk, Grams, and Zeller, 1977) to the current day (Keffeler, 2016) and has been able to leverage cutting-edge research of salt mechanics into practical solutions for mining operators. While a detailed description of salt mechanics is not provided in this document, Fossum and Fredrich (2002) include a fine overview of salt mechanics. "Wetting theory is one of the basic theories of flotation. The effects of concentrations, carbon chain length and pH values of saturated fatty acid collectors (lauric acid, myristic acid, palmitic acid and stearic acid) on the surface wettability of collophanite and dolomite were investigated by measuring the contact angle with dynamic captive-bubble technique and calculating adhesion work of bubble-mineral. The results show that the contact angles both of collophanite and dolomite are higher with enhancement of hydrophobicity when pH value of 5~9. The contact angles both of collophanite and dolomite are reduced with improvement of surface hydrophilicity. When strong acid pH value of 2~4 or strong alkaline pH value of 10~13. The reasons for this are that the fatty acids mainly exist with insoluble RCOOH molecules in strong acid condition, and competitive adsorption of OH- and RCOO- in the mineral surface is formed in strong alkaline condition. With the increase of the collector concentration, the contact angles of the collophanite and the dolomite all first increase then decrease. The formation of hydrophilic micelles results in the decreasing of contact angles and enhancement of surface hydrophilicity opposite when the collector concentration exceeds CMC. The contact angles of the collophanite and dolomite and the WSG of the bubble adhesion increase, the hydrophobicity enhance with the increasing of carbon chains of saturated fatty acid from 12 to 18. The variation tendency for the adsorption quantity of collectors and floatability of collophanite and dolomite are in line with the change trend of contact angle basically. It shows that the wettability of solid-liquid-gas interface can be well characterized by the dynamic captive-bubble technique.INTRODUCTIONPhosphorite resources are the main raw material for producing phosphate fertilizer and producing phosphoric acid (Cao et al.,2005), which is an important strategic mineral resource. The useful minerals in calcareous-magnesium phosphate ore are collophanite, and the main gangue minerals are dolomite (SISH et al.,2003). The lattice ions of the phosphorite and dolomite are both Ca2+, their similar surface properties and similar floatability are the main reason for the flotation of calcareous-magnesium phosphate ore difficultly (Fang et al.,2011). Usually, fatty acid collectors are used for the flotation of calcareous-magnesium phosphate ore under acidic conditions by reversing flotation method to remove dolomite (ABOUZEID et al.,2009), or direct flotation is used to gather collophanite in the alkaline conditions (Gong et al.,2017). The flotation behavior of collophanite and dolomite affects the indexes of concentrate and flotation efficiency directly. Therefore, it is necessary to study the action mechanism and the flotation method of the collector with the phosphate rock and dolomite respectively (Moudgil et al.,1988; Hanna, et al.,1990)."

"Tailings can be more stable in-site where they are stored and and so the risk of conventional tailings dam accidents can be reduced by alternative methods. In recent years, surface paste disposal (SPD) method is one of the alternative tailings storage methods. According to the results obtained from the previous lab scale experiments, optimum storage design was determined and then, this design was carried out in-site application under atmospheric conditions by a pilot scale tests. In the field study, two separate dams with no environmental hazards were established by the hazardous waste storage directive, whose surface area is measured as 400cm × 200cm. Also physical changes in the paste tailings were measured by the sensors such as volumetric water content, mutric suction and oxygen consumption. In addition, seepage water was collected in the drainage pool and examined for acid mine drainage and metal mobilization risks. As a result of the preliminary data obtained from measurements of pilot scale tests, when the pH value of seepage in the cemented dam (only 1th and 10th layers with cemented) is about 11, the pH value of seepage in the uncemented (reference) dam is measured at 8-9. INTRODUCTION Environmental damages occurred during the deposition of mine process tailings at surface using conventional methods (tailings dam etc.) can be reduced and/or eliminated with the use of new technologies and methods to an important extent. Nowadays, it has been investigated to safely deposit metal mine wastes generally discharged into surface tailings dams, seas, rivers, creeks etc. using Paste Tailing Technology which gains the growing importance in recent years. Meanwhile, Paste Tailings Technology has two applications in industry as an underground paste backfill and surface paste deposition. Particularly scientific studies about deposition of process tailings as paste sample in underground and surface have been increased. These studies showed that surface paste deposition can minimize the free water amount which is the biggest problem in conventional tailings dams. Additionally, it also provides less particle segregation, in other words, the formation of more homogenous material, the development of geotechnical properties which causes to obtain more stable material, increases the strength and stability of the paste with addition of binder where necessary surface paste material, and reduces the risk of Acid Mine Drainage (AMD) (Bascetin et al., 2017a). Theriault et al. (2003), Martin et al. (2006) and Simms et al. (2007) reported that Bulyanhulu mine in Tanzania is the first gold mine to employ surface paste disposal (SPD) worldwide. Here, tailings are deposited alternately via several towers. The tailings flow away from each tower to forming a conical deposit. Each layer had a lower thickness than 30 cm. The fresh tailings were poured on top of drying and hardening layer after a waiting period of 5-30 days. No cement was added into the tailings to prepare paste material. Uncemented paste was deposited by a solid content of 73% which corresponded to a 250 mm slump cone height (Yilmaz et al., 2014). In a study conducted by Yilmaz (2010) illustrates the preliminary results of a field cell testing undertaken to investigate the effect of in situ climate conditions and material properties on the performance and quality of fine-grained, sulphide-rich paste tailings at the LaRonde mine in Quebec, Canada. A total of two field cells are constructed in the surface disposal site of the mine and categorized as cemented cell CC and uncemented cell UC (Bascetin et al., 2017b)."

"The rising demand for metals today, coupled with the scarcity of primary sources for raw materials threatens both technological advancements and industrial manufacturing. In order to meet the demand, metals and other resources trapped in waste streams, have to be harnessed. This philosophy supports circular economy, where metals and other resources are kept in a closed loop. The pickling acid recovery system of most stainless steel production is one such example where the dissolved metals such as iron, nickel and chromium are currently not completely recovered due to the limitations of the current technologies. The aim of this study was to assess the available metals recovery methods from extremely concentrated acids. The main aim is to simultaneously recover metals and keep sulphuric acid reusable in acid circulation process. From the available literature, the most promising methods were chosen for laboratory experiments. Based on experimental work, the results and observations of electrodeposition, solvent extraction, and freeze crystallization are provided. INTRODUCTION Pickling in stainless steel production is an essential surface treatment process (Regel-Rosocka, M. (2010); Agrawal and Sahu, 2009). It is applied for removing surface films such as oxides and chromium-depleted layers to improve the corrosion resistance and surface finish of steel (Regel-Rosocka, 2010). Whilst the process greatly improves the surface finish of the stainless steel, it generates large amount of used acid, containing dissolved metals including chromium, iron, and nickel (Agrawal and Sahu, 2009). Recovery of acid is common practice for most steel producing industries (Nyman and Koivunen, 1986). In this work, acid regeneration process is investigated so as to simultaneously reusing sulfuric acid and recovering the dissolved metals. Recovery of valuable metals even in very small amounts would also bring additional revenue to the steel production industry. At a time when metal production has also been challenged by lack of natural resources for raw materials, secondary sources for metals such as the acid pickling process therefore, have greater potential as supplements. From earlier studies, electrodeposition (Giovanardi and Orlando, 2011; Kuznetsov et al., 200; Rögener et al., 2012; Surviliene et al., 2006), solvent extraction (Alguacil and López 1996; Haghshenas et al., 2009; Kesieme et al., 2013) and freeze crystallization (Beyer et al.,2003; Hasan et al.,2017; Van der Ham et al., 1999) are some of the most established potential methods. Earlier studies have also shown that simultaneous recovery of acid and metals would require combination of different methods. This is primarily due to the nature of very stable metal containing complex compounds formed during pickling. These complexes must be broken down to free the metals for further recovery processes."

The International Society of Explosives Engineers (ISEE) Standards Committee has recently updated both the Field Practice Guidelines for Blasting Seismographs and the Performance Specifications for Blasting Seismographs. The revisions are the result of public and industry input along with recommendations of the ISEE Blast Vibration and Seismograph Section. The committee is comprised of blasting seismograph manufacturers, users and general interest personnel. On an as needed basis, subject matter experts are enlisted to advise the committee. Three phases of activities are necessary for each revision cycle: request for comment on the existing standard, first draft revision of the standard based on public input, and final draft approval by the ISEE Board of Directors. The ISEE standards revision process will be explained and each standard will be discussed along with the significant revisions from the latest revision cycle.

Electrochemical processes occur on nano-, micro- and macro- scale in numerous applications such as fuel cells, batteries, hydrogen production, mineral extraction, water treatment, electrotherapy, sensors and many others. In most of these applications, gases evolve either at one or both electrodes due to electrolysis. These gases form bubbles play a crucial role in electrochemical systems. For example, in electrowinning (EW) that is used to extract and refine metals such as Cu, Zn, Ni, Mn, and Cd from their solutions, in most cases the solution is acidic and oxidation of water molecules at the anode is the common counter reaction, which results in the liberation of oxygen bubbles. This generally requires a high overpotential and accounts for a considerable percentage of the energy consumed in metal EW electrolytic cells, apart from producing acid mist that is very corrosive for other cell equipment and building structures. The behaviour of bubbles in electrochemical systems is still a complex challenging topic which requires a better understanding of gas bubbles hydrodynamics and their interactions with electrode surface and bulk liquid, as well as between the bubbles themselves. The objective of the current paper is to briefly review the fundamental hydrodynamics of both gas bubbles on the electrode surface and gas bubbles interaction with the liquid bulk solution. The current work also investigates the impact of gas bubbling and some operating parameters in copper EW, such as current density (100-500 A/m2), temperature (25-75ºC), acidity (50-300 g/L) and a typical chemical mist suppressant (<50 ppm). The results clearly show that both suppressant and temperature reduced the overall surface tension of the solution. Also, chloride concentration and applied current improved electrolyte flow and copper quality at higher current densities. The current paper contributes to the development of mineral processing (specifically to copper hydrometallurgy), as it deals with fundamental hydrodynamics and interactions of gas bubbles that formed during copper EW and play a crucial role in copper electrochemical systems.

"Rock and coal fractures and micro seismic vibration are common occurrences during development mining. It is very uncommon for coal and rock to be propelled into the roadway during normal mining operations. However, such occurrences do occur and appear to require significantly more energy than is available from strain energy release during coal cutting. The sources of energy, which can contribute to the propulsion of coal from the face or ribs, are typically strain energy from the surrounding ground, seismic energy from a rapid rupture of the ground in the vicinity, or rapid expansion of gas from within the burst source area.The aim of this paper is to briefly review the bursts that could be related to strain energy or seismic energy. However, the greatest emphasis is placed on the effect that gas within the coal could play in moderate to gassy mines.It has been found that the bursts related to the expansion of gas can occur in coal and stone. The volume of gas involved in coal bursts is typically lower than in gas outbursts; however, the process is generally similar.INTRODUCTIONA coal burst is defined as a rapid expulsion of coal (and potentially gas) from the boundary of the roadway. The volume of a burst can be variable, but volumes above 10-50m3 are noted and cause significant disruption to operations.Rock and coal fracturing is common about roadways, particularly under the influence of elevated stresses, either tectonic or related to mining abutment stress. Shear fracture is very common; however, it is very uncommon that the coal is propelled from the face or ribs as a result of fracture of the material. The nature of rock fracture about roadways under elevated stress is presented in Figure 1.A burst requires energy to propel the coal or rock from the rib or face of the roadway. The depth of material impacted may vary from 0.5m to greater than 3m inside the roadway boundary. The strength of the ground in this zone is variable depending on the nature of the coal seam (or surrounding material). Typically, this material has significant residual strength as confinement increases into the ribside.The energy required to propel this material is typically in addition to that which is associated with normal fracturing about the roadway."

"The use of thiosulfate as an alternative lixiviant for cyanide to treat complex refractory ores followed by the use of ion exchange resins (IX resins) for gold recovery has become an industrial reality. In this study, polyethylenimine (PEI) coated iron oxide magnetic nanoparticles (MNPs) were used to recover gold from the leaching solutions that consist of calcium thiosulfate, copper and gold. The gold loaded MNPs were easily separated from the solution using an external magnetic field. Proposing a novel adsorbent with characteristically easy solid-liquid separation, to recover gold from synthetic thiosulfate leaching solutions and gold elution and reuse of MNPs were the main objectives of this study. Adsorption isotherm studies revealed that the data fitted both Langmuir and Freundlich isotherm models equally well. The maximum adsorption capacity was 18.5 mg/g at pH 8 and 50?C. According to thermodynamic studies the physisorption process was exothermic and spontaneous. Gold and copper elution, and the regeneration and reuse of the nanoparticles were investigated and promising results were obtained. Different elution systems comprising sulfites, chlorides, glycine, EDTA (ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid) and sodium hydroxide were considered. Among them, EDTA for copper elution and NaOH for gold elution were the most efficient eluants. Regeneration and reuse studies revealed that the MNPs can be used for several cycles without significant performance loss. INTRODUCTION Although cyanidation has been used for gold leaching for more than 100 years, some major drawbacks associated with cyanidation have led to a quest for alternative lixiviants for gold leaching. Cyanide is ineffective in treating carbonaceous refractory ores as gold cyanide complex is adsorbed onto the native carbon in the ore itself known as preg-robbing. On the other hand environmental concerns associated with cyanidation drives the need for environmental friendly alternatives for cyanide. As of today, thiosulfate is known to be the most extensively studied and most promising alternative lixiviant for cyanide in both technical and environmental perspectives (Aylmore and Muir 2001, Oraby 2009)."

"NPO RIVS employs complex approach to engineering and design of the new facilities in close cooperation of Mining, Research, Hydrometallurgy, Design, Construction, Power Supply, Automation, Production and other departments. General Design Contractor (and then General Contractor) is directly involved in geological exploration, engineering surveys, floatability studies, feasibility study of process solutions and construction options. It delivers greenfield project and guarantee its efficient performance in future. Shiralgin is a small gold and copper deposit, gold average grade is 4.7 g/t. RIVS departments have studied ore floatability, developed process procedures for design and performed pilot testing. Construction of integrated plant including ore crushing and grinding, flotation and hydrometallurgy units with Dore gold production of 5 000 thousand tons ore per year (66.7 t/h) is recognized as economically viable. The technology used of separate dry stockpiling of flotation tailings and cyanidation tailings. Water circuit for concentration and hydrometallurgy is separated, too. Process design was performed based on BIM software like Autodesk Revit, Civil 3D, Rocscience slide using process procedures developed by RIVS Research units. Engineers provided modeling of primary crushing unit, coarse ore storage, main building (including grinding, flotation, thickening, filtration, loading, hydrometallurgy), tailings thickening unit, building for reagent storage and conditioning, tailings pond for dry stockpiling of flotation tailings and cyanidation tailings, sedimentation ponds, laboratories, infrastructure including Administration building and camp. Payback period is 3.5 years. 3D model of facility is currently stored at the State Agency of Geology and Mineral Resources affiliated to the Government of the Kyrgyz Republic.INTRODUCTION The Kyrgyz Republic has substantial potential of mineral resources including gold ores. Mining industry actively develops and involves international investors. Inventory includes 42 deposits (Figure 1) that have reserves of 616.4 t [1] of gold. The Kyrgyz Republic takes the third place in gold mining among CIS countries after Russia and Uzbekistan by producing up to 20 t annually."

"Syngas from Africary’s Theunissen underground coal gasification (UCG) project will be used for power production and synthesis of liquid fuels and commodity chemicals. However, some of the coal components, especially condensable water, oils, tars, inorganic trace elements, and a small fraction of fly ash and particulate matter, make their way to the surface via the production well and can cause adverse impacts on downstream processes. Africary’s standard design incorporates a cold gas clean-up system that relies on relatively mature techniques based on highly effective wet scrubbers and acid gas removal (AGR) systems such as Rectisol®, but with the downside of low energy efficiency and waste water generation. In this paper, novel technologies for removing contaminants and species separation from the hot (T > 300°C) raw syngas are compared. Comparisons are made between supersonic gas separation (SGS), Ranque–Hilsch vortex tube (RHVT), vortex gradient separation (VGS), and inertia vacuum filtering (IVF), and a vortex-based gas separation concept is proposed for UCG applications. Many other hot gas cleanup systems are still under development, given the technical difficulties caused by extreme environmental and operating conditions."

"Iron ore for alternate iron processes concerns alternate iron products designed for use in EAF (electric arc furnace) steelmaking processes. These alternate iron products include both DRI (direct reduced iron), HBI (hot briquetted iron) and merchant pig iron. Merchant pig iron can be produced in conventional blast furnaces, mini blast furnaces (including charcoal BF's) or novel processes such as RHF/SAF (rotary hearth furnace/submerged arc furnace) such as Iron Dynamics or RHF such as Mesabi Nugget. These novel processes are coal based and can use iron ore concentrates or recycled steel plant oxides. The blast furnace processes can use conventional feed materials: pellets, sinter, lump ore and coke. However, DRI and HBI processes are predominantly pellet based but require DR grade pellets that are low enough in acidic gangue (SiO2 and Al2O3) to avoid additional expense in the EAF process This paper will focus on the quality and availability of DR grade pellets for NAFTA DRI/HBI plants but also concentrates for fines based processes and feed materials for merchant pig iron production. INTRODUCTION This paper will outline alternative (to the blast furnace) competitive ironmaking processes and process routes. Within each section the types of iron ore to be utilized will be discussed. Before discussing some of the details of these processes, it may be appropriate to review some definitions and commonly used terms within this industry. DefinitionsDirect Reduction: Reduce iron oxide to metallic iron without melting. Unreduced ore compounds remain as undesirable oxides • Direct Reduced Iron: Iron oxide feedstock exits in same form as entered (pellets in, pellets out; lumps in, lumps out) • Hot Briquetted Iron: DRI that has been hot (1200°F, 650°C) briquetted to a high density pillow shaped briquette • Hot Metal: Molten iron in liquid form, above 2500°F, 1370°C • Pig Iron: Solid product of the iron blast furnace • Residuals: Undesirable elements such as copper, nickel, chromium, tin, sulfur, molybdenum and phosphorus • Gangue: Rock minerals in the iron ore such as silica (SiO2), alumina (A2O3), calcia (CaO), magnesia (MgO). These remain in the oxide form in DR processes. • Reduction: Fe2O3 + 3 CO = 2 Fe + 3CO2 2 Fe2O3 + 3 H2 = 2 Fe + 3H2O (Fe2O3 > Fe3O4 > FeO > Fe)"

The use of shock tubes often requires less setup time of subjects and smaller driving forces to create pressure versus time waveforms similar to that of arena testing. However, the effects of the shock tube cross sectional geometry on waveform properties is uncertain while free field explosion wave propagation and estimation is well studied.

The research aimed to compare the chemical analysis (K, Na, Cl) of Iranian concentrate plants, which are the main source of materials corrosion in the pelletizing plants. Cl alongside alkaline elements (especially K) may cause corrosion and plug in the grate plates and other involved equipment. Therefore, it is tried in the processing plants to remove impurities from the concentrate to prevent potential problems in pelletizing and iron/steel making processes. Part of these impurities are existed in the nature of ores and others are sourced in the processing water. Various samples from the largest Iranian concentrate plants including Chadormalu, Gol-e-Gohar, Jalal-Abad and Sechahun were prepared to investigate the possibility of alkaline problems for each samples. The amount of Cl, K and Na of Chadormalu sample was obviously low and therefore no alkaline problem is expected. The Cl content of Gol-e-Gohar sample was high (980 ppm) while amount of K was less (0.008 Wt. %). Due to low content of K, most of Cl will release as Cl2 or HCl and so problems caused by KCl plugging would not be a problem. The amount of Cl in Sechahun case was nearly same as Jalal-Abad (400-600 ppm), higher than Chadormalu and less than Gol-e-Gohar samples. However, the K content was higher than all samples (0.04 Wt. %). Therefore, the amount of evaporated K would be 2-4 times more than other samples. Since the amount of Cl and K is simultaneously higher than usual iron ores, therefore alkaline problems may be a serious prevention factor for the continuous operation of this plant. In order to solve this problem some counter-measures is suggested and discussed including cleaning system, partial dust enriched with KCl removal and variation in the materials type of involved equipment.

"In this work, an alternative approach to evaluate the flotation performance along a flotation rougher row is presented. The collection zone as well as the froth zone performances were separately evaluated. For this purpose, sampling for metallurgical balances along with sampling of top-of-froth (TOF) grades in each cell of a flotation row were employed. The modelling of the rougher circuit consisted of using TOF grades for evaluating the collection zone recovery, because they are a good representation of the bubble loading, which identifies the true flotation process, as shown in previous studies for shallow froths. In addition, the feed characterization, size-by-liberation, allowed the identification of the mineral distribution and its evolution along the circuit. The latter result was obtained by fitting the recovery profiles as well as the TOF grades down the flotation bank. The flotation rates and the maximum recoveries in terms of size-by-liberation (size classes: -45 µm, +45-150 µm, +150 µm, and liberation classes: -20%, +20%-80%, +80%) were then estimated. The results were in good agreement with those reported in literature by other authors and showed the new approach allows flotation kinetics to be characterized in industrial circuits.INTRODUCTIONMineral recovery in industrial flotation circuits is a function of the mineral characteristics, such as particle size distribution and liberation (Trahar, 1981, Jameson, 2012), and operating conditions such as air flowrate, pulp flowrate, solids percent and reagent conditioning (Jameson 1977; Klimpel, 1980; Mehrotra and Kapur, 1974). The cell type and size (self-aerated or forced air) and the circuit arrangement (single cells or banks of cells in series) are also relevant factors. Sampling of circuits (e.g. rougher, cleaner or scavenger) are commonly carried out using standard automatic samplers for metallurgical balance assessment. However, the flotation plants are generally not provided with proper accesses for local streams, which hinders the recovery estimations and the flotation rate characterization."

The rapid advancement of green technologies in recent years is closely tied to an ever- increasing demand for raw materials. Innovative forms of zero-emission transportation and sustainable power generation will require a variety of traditional metals such as Ni and Co, but also many non-traditional metals (e.g., REY). Many of these elements are known to be highly enriched in deep-sea ferromanganese (Fe-Mn) nodules and crusts. However, unlocking these metals from their deposits through metal processing is – aside from deposit exploration and production – expected to be a critical component that will affect the overall economics of the marine mining value chain. Hence, research and development of tailored metal processing solutions which can target specific metals of interest in Fe-Mn nodules and crusts, is required. Dynamic mineral recrystallization (DMR) of Fe-Mn oxide phases is a geochemical process that may have notable potential for hydrometallurgical applications. We have recently demonstrated that Ni can effectively be cycled between deep-sea Fe-Mn nodules and crusts and solutions through dynamic mineral recrystallization. DMR occurs in nature as abiotic background process during biogeochemical Mn cycling when dissolved Mn(II) is in direct contact with Mn oxides. Trace metals which are incorporated in the Mn host phases, are cycled between solid phase and solution via coupled dissolution (trace metal release) – reprecipitation (trace metal incorporation) mechanisms.
