Copper metal has important role in the basic industrials, as if it did not exist, modern human life would not develop! Copper leaching, as the first step, is important step in copper production processes. In this research, efficient factors on the leaching have been investigated. For this reason, four efficient factors on leaching namely pH, liquid to solid ratio (L/S), temperature and time, as independent variables, were optimized using response surface (RSM) with D-optimal. A quadratic equation was used to create response and contours. According to the results from analysis of variance (ANOVA), the value of determination coefficient (R2=96.77%) indicates that the model was good fit. Optimum experiment condition also was found: pH of 1, L/S of 8.24, temperature of 26.06 ? and time of 43.64 min. At this condition, the maximum recovery of copper was equaled to 92/38 in which good desirability achieved.

A determinação dos parâmetros cinéticos de cura de uma resina polimérica, bem como do compósito de matriz polimérica constitui importante ferramenta científica e tecnológica para processos industriais. No presente trabalho foi utilizada a técnica de calorimetria diferencial de varredura (DSC), prevista pela ASTM E698, com taxas de 5, 7,5 e 10°C/min para determinação da energia de ativação “E” (kJ/mol), fator pré-exponencial “Z” (min-1) e o tempo médio para alcançar 50% de cura “t1/2” para o epóxi puro e para o compósito reforçado por fibras de malva, em temperaturas variando na faixa de 25ºC a 100ºC. Os resultados mostraram que o tempo médio de cura de 24h, utilizado para a produção de placas de resina epóxi DGEBA-TETA ou compósitos de epóxi reforçados com fibras naturais, pode ser reduzido consideravelmente.

During the 1980 decade, the rapid price increase for flake graphite has generated a high degree of interest for the discovery and the development of alternate occidental sources of supply in response to fluctuations in quality and availability from current producers. Alike many industrial minerals, graphite draws its complexity not only from its mineralogy and unique properties but also from the very large spectrum of industrial applications each calling for specific quality criterion. As new high technology uses are being developed, more rigid specifications will apply. Discovered during the latter part of 1988 by Mazarin inc., some 30 Km South of Fermont near the Quebec-Labrador border, the Lac Knife deposit was quickly identified as one of the world major long term alternate source of stable supply for this mineral. This paper also reviews the status of the project development as of late 1991, while updating previous papers published by Industrial Minerals1990 and Mining Magazine 1990.

A clear vision of the future coal mining industry was developed into a hierarchy of technology needs by the National Mining Association (NMA) and the Chief Executive Officers of the mining industry. Although improvements in safety and environmental factors were the main drivers in the technology roadmapping workshop sponsored by the Department of Energy, the agile mining machine of the future must efficiently extract coal from deeper, thinner, and more geologically complex coal beds. One of the challenges will be to develop sensors and software that enable clean coal cutting in a changing geologic environment. The roadmap identifies imaging ahead of raining and horizon control within the top ten needed technologies. For these technologies to be adopted by the mining industry, they must be proven to be effective while driving down mining cost and risk. This paper describes how three-dimensional imaging ahead of mining and horizon sensors enable improved ground control and safety in the mining of underground coal.

Introduction Atmospheric fluidized bed combustion (AFBC) is an improvement over coal-fired boiler design. It offers several advantages over conventional boilers. AFBC can meet sulfur and nitrogen oxide emission regulations without the need for add-on flue gas treatment equipment. The relatively low combustion temperature inhibits ash melting, thus reducing slagging and fouling that can in turn increase a boiler's fuel flexibility. AFBC process The fluidized bed boiler that operates at atmospheric pressure on the fire side (AFBC) is relatively simple and no different in purpose from those pulverized coal boilers used by utilities today. Fluidized bed boilers can generate steam at the pressure and temperature needed by modern steam turbines. Only the firing system is different. In fluidized bed combustion, the fuel can be almost any coal or waste fuel. It is burned in the presence of a bubbling bed of limestone. Air is forced through the bed at a velocity sufficient to support the weight of the bed particles. When the bed is fully fluidized, it bubbles like a boiling liquid. Although the burning coal makes up less than 1% of the fluidized bed, all the bed particles are heated quickly by the turbulence. The calcium in limestone reacts with sulfur dioxide produced in coal combustion to form calcium sulfate in a dry solid state. In this way, sulfur emissions regulations can be met without installing flue gas desulfurization equipment. Boiler tubes submerged in the bed absorb heat directly from the turbulent solids. The heat converts water in the tubes to steam or superheats the steam. Because of the intimate contact of the boiler tubes with the fluidized bed, heat transfer is highly efficient. Consequently, less boiler tubing surface is needed to generate the same amount of steam as in a comparable pulverized coal boiler. The optimum temperature for sulfur capture is relatively low, about 815°C (1500°F) as opposed to 1370°C (2500°F) for pulverized coal boilers. This results in the formation of lower levels of NON. Because operating temperatures are below those that fuse coal ash, a single design can burn a variety of coals without slagging or fouling problems. TVA's AFBC development program Tennessee Valley Authority's (TVA) involvement in AFBC development began in 1974 and has addressed the technical uncertainties through a comprehensive program of design, experimental, and analytical studies. In 1979, TVA and the Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI) developed plans for a 20-MW AFBC pilot plant, a 10-fold scale-up over the next largest test facility. The U.S. Bureau of Mines has conducted a study to identify the sources of respirable dust and appropriate dust controls applicable to today's high tonnage longwall faces. The primary source of respirable dust identified is the cutting action of the shearer; however, the pct contribution of dust from coal transport through the stageloader/crusher was significant. This was primarily due to the high rate of mining, requiring rapid and constant coal transport. Techniques implemented for the control of shearer-generated dust included high drum water flow rates, deep cutting, shearer-clearer-type external water spray systems, and radio-remote control. The high water flow rates, and an enclosed stageloader with scrubber, were used to control dust during coal transport. No novel or effective control technology exists to control dust during support advance. Administrative controls for dust avoidance, and manual and batch-activated electro-hydraulic control systems were used to keep support movers out of the dust generated during support advance.

This study of the relationship of the accumulation and drainage of oil to the structural conditions in the Wilmington oil field is presented with the hope that the data contained herein will aid in efficient exploita-tion of other fields where similar conditions exist. It is also probable that the conditions observed in this field will enable accurate comparisons of various well-spacing programs as to efficiency of production and ultimate recovery. Oil and .gas reservoirs exist under pressure within the pore spaces of rock structures or traps. Wells are drilled to produce these reservoirs. Under primary operation, the natural energy of expanding fluids in and adjacent to the reservoir forces or drives oil and gas to the wells. There are three basic sources of energy: dissolved gas, water, and gas cap. Typical recovery by primary methods is only 10 to 25 per cent of the oil in place for the dissolved gas drive but is generally higher for the others. Secondary recovery involves the injection of water or gas to supplement natural energy, thereby increasing recovery over that obtainable by primary operation alone. In many cases ultimate recovery with secondary methods is 1.2 to 2.0 times the expected primary recovery. The type programme adaptable in a field depends on its 'primary performance and on certain reservoir characteristics. In the United States, application of secondary recovery methods is becoming increasingly important. About 22 per cent of United States oil production now comes from fields in which injection projects are operating. In 1953, nearly 1.4 million barrels of oil daily came from such fields, more than double the amount in the early 40's. Ultimate primary recovery from known pools is estimated at roughly 73 billion barrels. Secondary recovery projects already in operation will increase this to almost 80 billion, an increase of almost 10 per cent. Unitized secondary recovery projects have been very successful. From unitized projects alone, industry reserves of oil in the United States have been increased by 3 1/2 billion barrels. In Canada, secondary recovery has not been so wide spread mainly because D-3 reef reservoirs which have held the major reserves are under water drive. However, appreciable amounts of water are being injected in the Redwater D-3, Leduc D-2 and Joarcum Viking reservoirs, and gas in the Golden Spike D-3. In both countries, possible achievements in increased recovery through secondary recovery methods now in use and by new ones which may be developed through research and field trial are a challenge to the scientist and the industry.

A form of column flotation cell is described in which the contact between the feed and the air stream is made in a mixing device at the top of a vertical downcomer. The air-liquid mixture flows downward to discharge into a shallow pool of pulp in the bottom of a short cylindrical column. The bubbles disengage and rise to the top of the column to overflow into a concentrate launder, while the tails are discharged from the bottom of the vessel. The main advantages of the device described are that the overall height of the column is reduced to about one metre (3 ft), and the column can be self-inducing with respect to the air supply. Experimental results are given from tests on a feed stream to a conventional zinc cleaner circuit. Using wash-water to reduce gangue entrainment, the column gave high concentrate grades and high recoveries.

Part of a major sewer expansion for the City of Columbus, Ohio. The Big Walnut Outfall Augmentation Sewer (BWOAS) consists of 4,000m (13,200 ft) of 3.66m (12 ft)diameter tunnel passing mainly through glacial deposits with a water head of up to 2 bar. The project involves many new innovations, including: Slurry wall work shaft with excavation below the water table; Hybrid universal rings combining traditional steel reinforcement with fibers; New, full EPB Lovat TBM; Two component grout system pumped to the TBM from the surface; and, Linabond corrosion protection liner. The paper looks at the planning approach adopted to meet the various challenges presented, combined with an overview of progress to date.

Mineral property appraisers engaged in eminent domain actions on properties for which mining is the highest and best use must be fully competent in all phases of mineral resource estimation, mine project development, and mine operations (or retain the requisite competent assistance), as well as educated in eminent domain appraisal (USPAP Competency Rule). Failure to ensure such triggers the issue of appraisal competence and demonstrates a flagrant disregard of the myriad code(s) and guidelines to which the appraiser is subject. The cavalier assertion of some vague, undefined “latitude” in the valuation process does not exonerate the appraiser from a disregard of the USPAP Competency Rule. Lack of independence (i.e., “advocacy”) in mineral property appraisal is the usual result of a weak background in mining and/or appraisal theory. While it is readily apparent to those able to recognize it in reports and testimony, judges and juries cannot be expected to detect or recognize purposefully misleading (or even fraudulent) valuation concepts or testimony. Purposeful deception by the appraiser can lead to specious over-compensation of the property owner (thus victimizing the taxpayer); or, a failure to provide appropriate and just compensation to the property owner – yet, the purpose of an eminent domain proceeding is to leave the property owner no richer or poorer as a result of the taking. This paper highlights some of the deceptive practices encountered in litigation settings and raises issues of competency, professional ethics, and the effectiveness of the inherent enforcement capabilities within those institutions awarding professional certifications. INTRODUCTION The practice of eminent domain mineral property appraisal requires (particularly with respect to undeveloped mineral properties) that the appraiser possess the requisite level of competence in all phases of mineral resource estimation, mine project evaluation, mine development, and mine operation (through closure). To the extent the appraiser lacks such competence, it is incumbent on the appraiser not only to divulge this lack of expertise but also to seek competent assistance in the performance of the appraisal. This competence or expertise can only be obtained through a combination of appropriate and relevant technical education and direct mining industry experience. There exist a number of professional certification and/or credentialing authorities that speak to such competency. In a similar manner, eminent domain mineral property appraisal (as the term implies) also requires that the appraiser possess the requisite level of competence in the practice of eminent domain appraisal. This competence or expertise can only be obtained through appropriate and relevant education, direct knowledge of appraisal theory, particularly as it relates to the concept of eminent domain, and licensure.

"Vertical stirred mill is expected to upgrade the iron concentrate by further size reduced efficiently. The tests for fine grinding of iron ores from Baiyun Boyu iron ore, Baogang Goup, iron contained tails of Cu-Pb-Zn ore in Wanguo ore, Xiaoshalong iron ore in Qinghai were conducted in this paper. The data of appropriate grinding fineness, optimum grinding conditions and energy consumptions obtained from the test were used to select appropriate scale of the vertical stirred mill, optimize the parameters of the grinding process and upgrade the iron concentrate of the iron ore dressing plant or design the new ore dressing plant. Based on the laboratory tests, industrial system of regrinding and magnetic separation with vertical stirred mill as the regrinding mill in micro-fine grained iron concentrate upgrading has worked out very well. The grade of Fe in iron concentrates has increased to about 65.0% (by 4.0~6.5 point percent) when the iron concentrates were reground to designed fineness and the specific energy is 5.0~7.1kWh/t. The system of regrinding and magnetic separation is proven to be eco-efficient in iron concentrate upgrading."

The El Soldado copper deposit occurs in volcanic rocks of alkaline affinity of Lower Cretaceous age. The orebodies are discordant and show strong structural and lithological control. The mineralizing event was accompanied by hydro- thermal alteration expressed as carbonatization, silicification, and chloritization. Individual orebodies contain bornite-chalcopyrite cores which are surrounded by haloes dominated by chalcopyrite and pyrite respectively. The sulfur isotope composition of copper sulfides strongly suggests the sulfur is of magmatic origin. Fluid inclusion studies show the mineralizing fluid to be a highly saline NaC1-CaC12, brine. No evidence of boiling was found. The deposit is most likely of epigenetic origin. Hydrothermal fluids were produced during crystallization of a sodium rich trachytic magma during the waning stages of an episode of alkaline magmatic activity. Similar copper deposits along the Chilean Coastal Range may also be associated with alkaline host rocks.

Elemental carbon (EC) is used as a surrogate for regulating the exposure to diesel particulate matter (DPM) of underground metal/non-metal miners. EC was chosen as a surrogate because EC is selective to DPM and is a major component of DPM. Using EC as a surrogate also gives one the advantages of no sampling artifacts and being able to sample at all locations in the mine. Currently, EC represents DPM well in underground mines. Some control technologies have been shown to possibly alter the relationship between DPM and EC and characteristics of DPM. Therefore, future work will investigate the relationship between DPM and EC as new control technologies are implemented.

Best practice for the submission of samples to an internal or commercial laboratory requires quality control materials to be included for the purpose of independently and comprehensively assessing laboratory performance. These quality controls include the use of certified reference materials (CRMs) and may be blind to the laboratory. Iron ore companies purchase these materials from reputable manufacturers from stock of run-of-mine materials at the appropriate grades. The international standard, ISO 17034 (ISO, 2016), specifies the competency requirements for organisations manufacturing reference materials, and includes rigorous requirements for the assessment of homogeneity, stability and establishment of property values and their uncertainties. Homogeneity is one of the most important measures of suitability for all certified reference materials and refers to the degree to which the composition and properties of a sample are uniform throughout the batch, relative to the analytical precision of the method. More specifically, homogeneity studies of candidate reference materials should be assessed for both within sample variance and between sample variance with appropriate statistical controls. The design and application of homogeneity studies are discussed as they apply to both crushed and pulverised reference materials. Crushed certified reference materials have been utilised by the iron ore industry for a number of years and provide the user with a critical assessment of variances in sample preparation in addition to analysis. Crushed reference materials are similar in presentation to an RC sample and are generally used as discrete parcels of material submitted to the laboratory from the field. Pulverise certified reference materials miss the sample preparation step and are subsampled from th delivered sachet at the point of analysis. This paper compares the relative homogeneity performance of crushed and pulverised certified reference materials by grade across key iron ore chemical constituents. Outcomes are benchmarked to the international standard ISO 9516 (ISO, 2003) for the determination of various elements in iron ores by lithium borate fusion and X-ray fluorescence. Practical implications are discussed with reference to a case study from an iron ore laboratory in the Pilbara.

"It is well known that from time-to-time a vehicle will interact with a bund or windrow and often the barrier is insufficient to safely arrest that vehicle. The result of such an incident is often catastrophic. Regulations around the requirement for edge protection near pit edges vary between jurisdictions. Generally in Australia regulations tend to be around placing the responsibility on the mine operator to provide ‘adequate’ or ‘appropriate’ edge protection. Guidelines often place a minimum height of bund at between half and two-thirds the diameter of the largest tyre on-site.Safescape has identified the opportunity to improve safety in open pit edge protection and is currently developing the Edge Protector (EP) product. The EP is designed to create a vertical front face to a conventional broken rock safety bund. The fundamental premise of the product is that by creating a vertical front face to the bund, trucks cannot easily drive up over the bund and instead have to push through the rock to get to the other side.In addition to providing a safer system for arresting vehicles, the vertical front face also means that extra space is made available in the haul road. This can either be used to facilitate larger trucks or when designing a new mine, with an increase in overall pit slope.This paper outlines the research and development of a new edge protection product. Studies of wellbore heat transtnission during the injection of a hot fluid, as either gas or liquid, have appeared in he literature. The present investigation takes into account the effect of condensation, which is of practical sig-nificance when considering steam injection operations. Calculation procedures are given for superheated and for saturated and undersaturated steam. Effects of injection rate, time, pressure, temperature and depth of a well on heat losses have been analyzed. The benefits of using a packer are discussed. Also presented are correlations for estimating heat losses involved during injection of saturated steam. INTRODUCTION Studies of wellbore heat losses during the injection of a hot fluid have appeared in the literature. Ramey' has presented a useful solution for calculating temperature of a heated gas as a function of depth and injection time. Ramey and others have also presented solutions for the hot liquid case.'. ' No method is available to take into account the effect of condensation, which is of practical significance when considering steam injection operations. This paper presents a method of estimating the quality of a condensing fluid as a function of depth and time. The approach is basically the same as that used by Ramey. The following injected fluids and conditions are considered in this study: 1. Injection of superheated steam A. Decrease in temperature until cooled to the saturated state B. Condensation until condensed completely into hot (saturated) water 2. Injection of saturated or undersaturated steam; condensation until condensed completely into hot (saturated) water. Although this investigation does not include cooling of water after steam is completely condensed, Ramey's solution for the hot liquid case can be used for this purpose. The effects of various process variables on heat losses During the injection of steam into a well are investigated. THEORY QUALITY OF CONDENSING STEAM Predicting the behavior of condensing steam flowing down the injection wellbore requires an estimate of the quality of steam, i.e., the mass fraction of vapor in the mixture. Let us divide the total depth of the injection well into several segments which might be, but do not have to be, of equal magnitude. Consider condensation within a given depth interval AZ, the bottom of which is located at a depth Z from the surface (Fig 1). The following equation, derived in the Appendix- relates the quality of steam at the bottom of an interval to that at the top of the interval:
