Although many sites are equipped with surveillance cameras and control systems, critical events often go unmonitored or under-analysed due to the lack of intelligent interpretation tools. Cameras typically act as passive recorders, requiring manual review by control room operators; a process that is labour-intensive, error-prone, and reactive. Vision AI is emerging as a transformative solution, combining computer vision and artificial intelligence to deliver real-time, actionable insights. This technology has evolved along two key phases: traditional object detection, and more recently, multimodal large language model integration. This paper presents solution architectures, deployment results, and key insights from real-world implementations across underground operations, open-pit truck-shovel operations, and smelter operations, demonstrating how Vision AI is reshaping mining operations to become safer, more efficient, and more intelligent.

The electrical conductance of molten FeS was studied as a function of temperature and composition. It was found that stoi-chiometric FeS (36.5 pct S) shows a minimum specific conductance of 400 ohm-1 cm-1. For the Fe-rich melts the conductivity increases with increasing amount of iron to about 4850 ohm-1' cm-I at 26 pct sulfur. For the sulfur-rich melts the conductivity increases with increasing amount of sulfur until it reaches a maximum of 1300 ohm1 cm-1 for 37.4 pct S and decreases to 800 ohm-1 cm-1 for 38.3 pct sulfur. It is concluded that molten stoichiometric FeS is an intrinsic semiconductor in which the forbidden gap in the electron energy level diagram is quite narrow. Excess sulfur acts as an acceptor impurity in providing a component of positive hole conduction, while excess iron acts as a donor impurity to increase the n-type conduction. K. Bornemann and G. von Ftauschenplatl used a four-terminal, direct-current cell to study the electrical conductance of molten copper sulfide. Their measurements showed a high conductivity, of the order of 100 ohm-1 cm-" and a positive temperature coefficient. From electrolysis studies, Savelsberg2 concluded that molten Cu2S and molten FeS are electronic conductors. Further. he found that molten FeS has a high specific conductance, of the order of 1500 ohm-' cm-', and a small negative temperature coefficient. Pound, Derge, and Osuch,3 using an ac Kelvin circuit and a four-terminal cell, measured the specific conductance of molten Cu,S, molten FeS, and various mixtures. They found that the specific conductance of the solutions followed a roughly additive rule of mixtures. Yang, Pound, and Derge4 showed from electrolysis measurements that the mechanism of electrical conduction in molten Cu2S, FeS, and mattes is primarily electronic. Further, they observed that small additions of CuCl suppress the electronic conduction whereupon the system behaves ionically.

In the presence of oxygen, galena is oxidized in an aqueous medium containing ammonium acetate in accordance with the following reaction: PbS + 1/2 0, + 2 NH~Ac -» PbAc, + So + 2 NH: + H2O. This reaction was studied in an autoclave under oxygen pressure by polarographic measurement of the concentration of lead ion in solution. Oxidation rate is parabolic. The reaction products are lead acetote and elemental sulfur, the latter forming a film on the galena crystal. Reaction kinetics appear to be determined by the diffusion of lead from the galena phase to the solution interface through the film of sulfur. RECENT applications of pressure leaching on a commercial scale have emphasized the metallurgical importance of the oxidation of sulfide minerals in aqueous media by oxygen under pressure. Research experience has shown that sulfates, thio-nates, and metal oxides are the products of humid oxidation of sulfide minerals in basic solutions. The metal oxides may be solubilized in the presence of a complexing ion.' Certain oxide minerals are also amenable to treatment by this type of oxidation.' Several kinetic studies have been made of reactions of this type. Stenhouse' found that pyrite (FeS?) oxidized in a sodium hydroxide solution to produce a soluble sulfate and an insoluble layer of iron oxide and that the kinetics of the reaction were controlled by oxygen diffusion through the oxide layer. Andersen' studied the oxidation of galena (PbS) in a sodium hydroxide solution under oxygen pressure. He found the lead and sulfur to be simultaneously oxidized to produce plum bite ions and sulfate ions, and that the reaction rate was proportional to the surface area of the galena. The kinetics appeared to be determined by the reaction of oxygen and water with the galena surface. In each of the above reactions the metal and sulfur components of the mineral were oxidized simultaneously and at equal rates. In the present study the alkaline medium has been replaced by an approximately neutral solution of ammonium acetate in which lead sulfate is soluble. Under the conditions no sulfate was produced and no sulfur could be detected in the solution. The metal component of the mineral was solubilized and the liberated sulfur remained as a film of elemental sulfur on the surface of the galena crystal. A kinetic study of this reaction was undertaken to establish the kinetic mechanism and to determine the rate controlling step. Specific reaction rates were determined by oxidizing crystals of galena of measured surface areas in an autoclave maintained at the desired temperature and oxygen pressure. The rate of reaction was followed by measuring the concentration of lead in the ammonium acetate solution with a cathode ray polarograph, employing stationary platinum electrodes incorporated in the autoclave. The site of the project is located approximately 500 ft (150 m) from the Mediterranean coast, near the Al Ghazala roundabout in the town center of Tripoli, Libya. The investor of the project was Magna Properties Group, Ltd. – Libya, the main contractor was Man Enterprise S.A.L., and the design and construction management was performed by Dar Al-Handasah Engineering. Trevi S.p.A. was contracted to perform the design and construction of the anchored diaphragm walls and dewatering systems for the excavation of a two-level basement car park, which extends across the full footprint of the site.The site was approximately 640 ft by 230 ft (195 m by 70 m) in plan and nearly flat. The groundwater level typically varies from about 11 ft to 23 ft (3.4 m to 7.0 m) above mean sea level. To construct the required raft foundation, it was necessary to excavate the area down to El. -15.7 ft to -26.3 ft (-4.8 m to -8.0 m), which resulted in an excavation depth ranging from about 27 ft to 39 ft (8.3 m to 12.0 m) below the existing ground surface.Subsurface ConditionsThe subsurface site investigation was performed in three phases by Al-Tamier Engineering Consulting Bureau. During Phase 1, a preliminary investigation was undertaken during the early stages of the project to obtain information about the general stratigraphy and groundwater level at the site. Phase 2 was performed to obtain subsurface information and design parameters, and Phase 3 was performed as a supplementary ground investigation to investigate unexpected ground conditions identified during Phase 2. In total, 14 boreholes were drilled to depths ranging from about 80 ft to 180 ft (24 to 55 m). El presente trabajo señala la exploración y geología del yacimiento Quellaveco Moquegua) desarrollado entre 1972 y 1999. El área fue originalmente estudiada a través del método geofísico de Polarización Inducida en 1955 por la Newmont Exploration LtdLa minera Quellaveco. Posteriormente, se desarrollaron otros estudios, considerando las condiciones geomorfológicas más favorables. En este sentido, el presente texto señala los doce trabajos de exploración, siguiendo quebradas y líneas con pendientes suaves. Así, la interpretación fue de tipo empírico, utilizando un factor para transformar cargabilidades en porcentaje total de sulfuros, en un momento donde no se conocían muchos de otros elementos que polarizan.

Airflow in large-opening stone mines is largely dependent on the natural ventilation due to the large cross- section area of the opening. The openings of such stone mines are typically twice or thrice the size of typical underground coal or metal/nonmetal mines. Due to the influence of natural ventilation, air velocities as well as the static pressure drop in the mines are low. Mines rely on auxiliary fans to ventilate active faces to reduce contaminant exposure to mine workers. The National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) is conducting research on ventilation of large-opening stone mines to reduce worker exposure to dust and other contaminants such as diesel particulate matter (DPM). In order to reduce worker exposure to dust and DPM, an understanding of the airflow pattern due to auxiliary fans in the mine is needed. Under this research, NIOSH researchers are exploring the computational fluid dynamics (CFD) modeling to understand the airflow behavior in large-opening mines. In this paper, the team is presenting the results from three-dimensional CFD modeling of airflow in a large-opening stone mine and investigating the effect of a fan placement with the movement of trucks.

Industry and regulatory agencies have requested guidance on safe blasting near transmission pipelines. The U.S. Bureau of Mines and AMAX Coal Company have studied surface coal mine overburden blasting near four steel and one PVC pipe-line of 15 to 5l-cm diameter, monitoring vibration, strain, and pressure. Unlike tests simulating construction blasting, these were up to 1000 kg per delay in 3l-cm blastholes. Worst case comparisons showed that 12.7 cm/s blasting vibrations produced strains about 1/4 that of pressurization and 10-18 pct of the ultimate tensile strength. No failures occurred from blasting as close as 15 m which produced vibrations over 60 cm/s.

The U.S. Bureau of Mines Reno Research Center investigated, developed, and patented a high-temperature cyanide leaching process for recovering platinum-group metals (PGM) from automobile catalysts. A batch pilot plant was constructed at the center and operated to demonstrate this technology to industry. Approximately 1,600 kg of used pellet, monolith, and metal support catalysts containing 1,700 g (54 tr oz) of PGM was processed. Forty-five-kilogram batches of used catalysts were leached with sodium cyanide solution at 160°C for 1 h in a countercurrent processing sequence. This selectively dissolved the PGM. Average extractions from the used pellet catalyst were 96 pet Pt, 95 pct Pd, and 73 pct Rh. Average extractions from the used monolith catalyst were 84 pct Pt, 81 pct Pd, and 66 pet Rh. Heating the pregnant leach solutions to 275°C for 4 h destroyed the PGM-cyanide complexes, causing over 99.7 pct of the PGM to precipitate from solution. The PGM precipitate was predominantly a metallic powder concentrate, typically analyzing greater than 50 pct PGM. Heating destroyed the cyanide to less than 0.2 mg/L free and total cyanide. Both the pellet and monolith residues were evaluated for disposal using the toxicity characteristic leaching procedure developed by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.

Uranium mining remains controversial in many parts of the world, especially in a post-Fukushima context, and often in areas with significant uranium resources. Although nuclear proponents point to the relatively low carbon intensity of nuclear power compared to fossil fuels, opponents argue that this will be eroded in the future as ore grades decline and energy and greenhouse gas emissions (GGEs) intensity increases as a result. Invariably both sides fail to make use of the increasingly available data reported by existing uranium mines through sustainability reporting ? allowing a comprehensive assessment of recent trends in the energy and GGEs intensity of uranium production, as well as combining this with reported mineral resources to allow more comprehensive modelling of future energy and GGEs intensity. In this study, detailed data is reported for numerous uranium mines around the world, including production, energy and GGEs intensity and reported mineral resources. An important aspect included ? arguably unique and never before published ? is the relationship between ore grade and recovery, which is crucial in future projections of uranium mining. Overall, the paper shows the importance of continuing to improve reporting by the uranium sector as well as the ability to analyse key trends and future projections in energy and GGEs intensity of uranium production.

O presente trabalho tem como objetivo estudar a influência da adição do rejeito de pó de balão nas propriedades mecânicas do concreto destinado à fabricação de pavers, visto que a indústria da construção civil é a maior responsável pela geração de resíduos, sendo responsável pelo consumo de aproximadamente 40% dos recursos naturais extraídos. Sendo assim, o rejeito foi analisado granulometricamente por peneiramento e foram feitos dois traços, um denominado traço referência e o outro denominado traço substituído, sendo este último com adição de 4% em massa do pó de balão. A partir dos traços calculados foram moldados corpos de prova e avaliados a resistência à compressão destes. Os corpos de prova moldados a partir do traço substituído exibiram maior resistência à compressão tanto na idade de 7 dias quanto na idade de 28 dias, quando comparados aos corpos moldados a partir do traço referência. Esse incremento na resistência mecânica é justificado pela distribuição granulométrica do pó de balão, que por ser constituído em sua maior parte por finos inferiores a 0,15mm atua preenchendo vazios, reduzindo zonas de transição interfacial e formando uma microestrutura mais refinada.

Available statistics show that the demands of the American chemical industry for sodium sulphate have been increasing slightly in recent years. The supply from domestic sources, particularly In the form of byproduct salt cake from the acid manufacturers, has been tending to decrease due to the growing manufacture of synthetic acid. Both hydrochloric and nitric acids are being synthesized from their elements. The natural result has been that a smaller amount of salt cake is available. Simultaneously, the expansion of the Kraft paper industry, especially in the South, has brought about greater demand for sodium sulphate in that section. This dean is being met by domestic byproduct salt cake, by imported German sodium sulphate made from potash waste liquors, and by favorable situated domestic deposits of Glauber salts and tile anhydrous salt, thenardite. No shortage of natural sodium sulphate exists in the United States, but usually such deposits occur in semiarid regions far removed from transportation facilities and from markets. Moreover, the major portion of the natural deposits is Glauber salt or mirabilite (Na2SO4 ? 10H20), which must be dried or dehydrated in order to meet consumer requirements. The water of hydration represents, roughly, 55 percent of tae total weight of the crude salts and therefore has a very important influence on transportation costs. In marry instances the cost of getting, even the dehydrated product to market is the deciding economic factor. Therefore, the recovery oil production of anhydrous sodium sulphate from plant-.waste liquors or from natural brines of suitable composition might be economically feasible. The U.S. Bureau of Mines, at its nonmetallic Minerals Experiment Station, New Brunswick, N. J., has, for a number of rears, been investigating the commercial possibilities of treating the complex saline mineral polyhalite (K2SO4?NgSO4?2CaSO4?2H20) for the recovery of potash and magnesia. Certain proposed processes (1, 2, 3, 4)4/ yield waste liquors that contain the bulk of the magnesium and sulphate originally combined as magnesium sulphate in the polyhalite molecule. The Federal Bureau of Mines coal-pyrite flotation process has been modi¬fied to produce a concentrated final clean coal slurry underflow that could be dewatered more effectively by filtration or centrifugation. This change was accomplished by redesigning the Bureau's two-stage flotation pilot plant facility and running the second-stage flotation step with undiluted or only partially diluted first stage coal froth concentrate. Results of the pilot plant flotation tests showed that substantial sulfur reduction could be achieved by flotation with undiluted pulp but some dilution is recommended for maximum selectivity. For example, coal-pyrite flotation in slurry of 25 percent solids yielded clean coal products analyzing as low as 0.7 percent pyritic sulfur and froth reject products containing slightly over 3.0 percent pyritic sulfur. In comparison, coal-pyrite flotation with pulp diluted to about 12.5 percent solids yielded clean coal containing as low as 0.4 percent pyritic sulfur and froth reject of 5.6 to 6.7 percent pyritic sulfur. Despite the need for some dilution, it was concluded that excellent coal-¬pyrite flotation selectivity could be achieved without diluting to 6 or 7 per¬cent solids as done in the earlier work. Thus the economics of coal-pyrite flotation would be improved by easing clean coal dewatering problems and by reducing second-stage flotation cell volume requirements.

The productive capacity of natural-gasoline and cycle plants in the United States as of January 1, 1952 was 811,596 barrels per day, an increase of 163,691 barrels per day since the last survey on January 1, 1950. The rate of growth during these 2 years has been 12 percent per year s only slightly below the maximum rate, recorded from 1948-50. This survey, for the first time, presents capacity data on a barrel rather than a gallon basis. Also, for the first time, a break-down of capacity by products has been obtained. The combined LP-gas producing capacity of plants and fractionators equaled 382,790 barrels per day, 47 percent of the total industry capacity tor all products. During January 1952, LP-gas and natural gasoline and other products were each produced at the rate of 76 percent of the January 1 capacity.

THE story of the rolling of strip steel is not limited to any one plant or individual or group of individuals. It is a story with many ramifications. First of all, it should be understood that the strip mills we are considering are continuous mills, in that the steel passes directly from one mill to the other in a more or less straight line. Continuous mills are not new; in fact, they have been used for many years in the rolling of a few simple shapes. They were, however, driven by one motor through jackshafts, and as a result the speed of each roll stand had a fixed relation to that of every other stand in the series. This in turn fixed the reduction that could be made in each stand. The mill could produce simple things, but was not satisfactory for the production of the variety of strip now required. Forecasting mined grade variability from exploration information is a challenging task in mine planning. For effective planning of activities such as workplace scheduling, ore grade quality control etc. development of realistic numerical/simulation models of in-situ variability from exploration information is an essential first step. Geostatistical conditional simulation (GCS) is one of the well known methods to develop these simulations. Recently, stochastic fractal models based on the assumptions of scale-in variance and self-similarity have been used for developing simulations of several natural phenomena. It has been suggested that these models might permit generation of short-scale variability information from exploration data with greater fidelity when the data satisfies the attendant assumptions. In this paper the stochastic fractal models are reviewed and their relationship to geostatistical variogram models is examined. A comparison of the two simulation techniques has been per-formed using coal sulfur data from a mined out coal property. The results of this comparative analysis are also presented in the paper.
