The Indian steel industry is growing at a rapid pace and expected to be the 2nd largest steel producer in the world after China. To cope up with this growth and to sustain it, the industry needs to focus on effective utilization of domestic metallurgical coals. While the importance of indigenous coal has increased, its supply from the domestic sources is declining. This is primarily due to high ash content in Indian coals leading to its difficulty in washing to a low level competitive to imported coals. Non-availability of a suitable beneficiation technology to bring down the ash to such a low level is the other reason. Effective utilization of current technologies has enabled Tata Steel to bring down the ash to 13-16% from its captive collieries. However, further lowering the ash using the conventional beneficiation technologies is difficult and unsustainable. New technologies should be developed for bringing down the ash further. A thrust area research program has been undertaken at Tata Steel for producing clean coal with 8% ash maintaining the yield currently achieved in its washeries. The technologies attempted are based on chemical beneficiation of coal. In leaching process, suitable chemicals are used for extracting ash minerals from the coal. As an alternative process, the combustible part of the coal is being extracted using a suitable organic solvent through an organo-refining process. Both the processes have been successfully developed in the laboratory and are being demonstrated in pilot scales. Various beneficiation processes practiced at Tata Steel including the efforts made for developing new processes for achieving clean coal with 8% ash have been discussed in this paper. The lecture is about the growing role and the evolution of advanced process control (APC) in the mining and mineral processing industry, taking into account major trends in Information Technology. It reflects the standpoint of a team, which has already successfully developed APC technology for more than 20 years. Advanced process control systems tend to rely on combinations of artificial intelligence techniques or algorithms that complement each other and cooperate. Each technique or algorithm makes it possible to use certain type of knowledge about the process, so that the advanced control systems benefit at any time from the combined knowledge of process and control engineers and plant operators, from knowledge derived from past research work and process modeling, from a considerable amount of data provided by advanced instrumentation in real time, and from knowledge that can be extracted automatically and at any time from past data and images. The lecture will first review and compare the role, merits and limitations of algorithms that are used for online decision making in mineral processing plants: expert systems, fuzzy logic, neural networks, soft sensors, optimizers, and MPC controllers. The lecture will also review the role of online image analysis and sound analysis in process control. Recent developments in this area open new dimensions, in particular the ability for advanced process control algorithms to automatically explore the past, move back and forth in time in order to make better informed decisions, and the ability to cooperate with the operators for better performance. Applications will be presented. Recent progress in process simulation makes it possible to design, configure, check, and pre-tune APC systems before plant startup, opening new options for implementing APC. The breakthroughs, which transformed the human race, have close interdependency with the environment. With the increase in world population, the requirement of natural resources is increasing every day. The nature is still stronger than man is but we must use natural resources more responsibly. The key to our well being is sustainable development Development effort for human well being may have adverse impact on the environment also. To keep the net impact positive is critical for sustainable development. For mineral processing industry, the value of a mineral is in the actual value as perceived by the end user. The process designs, investments in technology development all have direct relationship with the value of use and making a net positive impact on our ecosystem The value proposition has shifted towards raw materials and is a big differentiator. The availability of good quality raw material is difficult or is available at a premium. The challenge today is to develop green technologies that make effective and efficient usage of low grade raw materials The low grade raw materials as available pose a significant opportunity for human race for delivering value. They offer an easier reach to a value as perceived in end use but the journey is full of challenges. The first challenge is development of technology for maximizing grade recovery as required by the downstream process. The second challenge is to make the technology viable so that it contributes value to end use and the third challenge is to keep the net impact of the process positive The mining and mineral processing fraternity, being at the beginning of this value chain is set to take the first step in this journey for a tryst with ultimate human well being. This presentation identifies how mineral (coal included) processing profession should look at the challenges (threats) being faced by mineral industry. Presently, the focus is more on supply and demand on minerals. In addition, the R&D activities in the chain of mine-to-metal are paying more attention (if not only on) the processes being adopted, development of new equipments and modeling and simulation. But the profession is grossly ignoring aspects such as impact of the processes on other resources, of the ways we extract, use and dispose them socio-economically and efficiently. A business model which may encompass all these dimensions are essential for the sustainable development of mineral industry and a possible approach in this direction is presented. To start with, for the sustainable growth and existence, the profession must be aware of the prospective impacts of their activities on critical factors such as ? political (changing government policies), geographical (environment, land, water and habitat), which have major bearing on the survival and growth of the industry. Mineral Processing professionals have to join hands with mining engineers to answer some relevant questions related to the impact of mineral industry on society. Mining can become economically viable only if mineral processing engineers come out with innovative solutions to reduce capital and operating costs. The solutions have to be adoptable and practically feasible so that industry looks at us for directions. In fact, we have to move towards beneficiation of nano particles striving towards zero waste. Some of the gaps in the knowledge of procedures being followed in the design and operation of processing plants are highlighted. Enhancing the knowledge base for solving unexplored possibilities, solutions to evolve sustainable development measures which demands innovation both at academic and practicing levels is the need of the future. Well-structured academic programmes are to be formulated so that the graduates of these programmes can make an effort to look at processes/concepts with a new insight and approach; the profession should excite the young brains with challenges. R&D funding agencies have to have a long-term perspective on mineral processing so that closer interactions between academic institutes, industry and R&D organizations are sustainable and that innovations are at least a few years ahead of needs of future challenges. Chitosan was tested as a depressant in the differential flotation separation of chalcopyrite and galena. The micro-flotation results showed that chitosan selectively depressed chalcopyrite while galena was floated by potassium ethyl xanthate in acidic solutions. With the addition of 0.67 mg/L chitosan (CT) in the slurry of chalcopyrite-galena mixtures at pH 4, the recovery of galena was 95% while that of chalcopyrite was 30%, indicating that chitosan could potentially be used in differential Cu-Pb sulfide separation. Furthermore, the study of chitosan with either low (LCT) or high molecular weight (HCT) in the differential flotation indicated that better separation was achieved by the chitosan with lower molecular weight (LCT). ToF-SIMS was employed to study the distribution of CT on the surface of chalcopyrite-galena mixtures by ion mass spectra analysis and surface imaging, which showed that CT adsorbed heavily on chalcopyrite but barely adsorbed on galena. The positive ion ToF-SIMS spectra provided information on the surface composition of chalcopyrite-galena mixtures after CT treatment. It appears that the selective adsorption of CT on chalcopyrite was originated from the strong interaction between NH3+ and Cu. Keywords: differential flotation, micro-flotation

"In 2015 in the frames of federal special-purpose program «National system of chemical and biosafety of Russian Federation (2009-2014)» Federal State Budget Educational Institution of Higher Education ""Irkutsk National Research Technical University” (further–INRTU) performed works aimed at disposal of accumulated arsenical residues at industrial site of the former Angarsk arsenical plant (AAP) processing arsenious ores from Svirsk town in Irkutsk region. The plant in 1934-1949 produced arsenic trioxide for the defence industry. Prior to starting the works on disposal of industrial pollution focus the total amount of cinders stored on 13 ha of industrial site of AAP was 156 900 tons with 1% average arsenic content. Close to the cinders there were also remains of industrial buildings and process equipment in the amount of 6 600 m3 that contained 150 tons of arsenic. Additional source of pollution at the industrial site of AAP is contaminated soil amounted to 48 000 tons. Proven reserves of gold and silver in the cinders were 6.1 and 47 g/t respectively. In 2015 the source of arsenious pollution was detoxificated according to mineral matrix technology and stored in a special landfill with separate stocking of gold-containing cinder and other arsenious residues. This technology of waste disposal specifies extraction of valuable metals from cinder in future. The similar case is with Vershino-Darasunsky settlement in Trans-Baikal Territory where the abandoned industrial site of the former arsenic plant is located in the central part of the settlement. The concentration of arsenic and valuable components can be compared to the concentration at AAP. Since 2016 the demand for removal of such industrial pollution sources is legislated due to amendments in Federal Law No. 7-FZ on environmental protection. It results in a real possibility to remove such dangerous industrial residues deposits as the one located in Vershino-Darasunsky settlement. Today, sodium cyanide is extensively used for extracting gold, however it is highly toxic to the environment if not managed properly. This paper discusses the key challenges presented to gold operations in efforts to come into alignment with the Russian environmental regulations and suggests solutions to overcome these challenges. It is a fact that the major environmental threat cyanide poses to water sources. Therefore, natural water sources should be well protected from the adverse effect of cyanides used in hydrometallurgical processes. For this, the following site procedures and facilities are practiced: in-site and external water recycling systems, reclaim water treatment if required and tailings ponds with water impermeable screens (tailings ponds with controlled leakage). Cost comparison analysis of cyanide destruction methods was carried out. It was revealed that the aldehyde treatment method developed by Irgiredmet JSC demonstrated the best economics. Cyanide emissions are treated by mass-manufactured packed and membrane devices which allow to keep cyanides at the acceptable limiting values established by environmental regulatory agencies.

"INTRODUCTIONThe objective of this work was to deport silver into a residue suitable for subsequent extraction without compromising the high base metal extraction during the pressure oxidation.RESULTS AND DISCUSSIONThe complex sulphide from the tailing pond of Cannington mine, Australia, was re-grounded and a bulk concentrate was recovered by flotation. The major economic sulphides are galena and sphalerite. The chemical analyses revealed 17.22% Fe; 4.88% Zn; 8.22% Pb; 9.49% S2- and 422 g/t Ag. The baseline cyanidation yielded 36.60% of silver at high cyanide consumption (24.17 kg/t NaCN). Pressure oxidation at 150°C (in the absence of iodide), followed by cyanidation of the residue yielded 8% silver extraction. Pressure oxidation was carried out at 110-150°C in sulphate media with additions of potassium iodide and the resulting residue was subjected to cyanidation. High recovery of silver was achieved because its incorporation into lead-hydronium jarosite during the pressure oxidation was minimised, while its deportment into the cyanide-soluble silver iodide was favoured (Figure 1). Silver recovery decreased slightly at high temperatures (140° and 150°C) because of the enhanced stability and kinetics of leadhydronium jarosite, but this could be overcome by increasing acidity and iodide concentration of the slurry."

In this investigation, the possibility of physical separation methods such as attrition scrubbing, hydro-cycloning and also reverse flotation were investigated for silica and calcite removal from relatively low grade kaolin. The head sample was provided by the Iran China Clay Company and the major oxides contained in the head sample were Al2O3, SiO2, CaO and Fe2O3 with grades of 15.07%, 71.05%, 4.35% and 0.52% respectively. The liberation degree of calcite and iron impurities from kaolin particles were over 80% for particles finer than 210µm and 53µm respectively. Attrition scrubbing tests were carried out with scrubber cell of the conventional Denver flotation cell model D-12. Laboratory scale hydro cyclone was applied for the beneficiation of kaolin. Attrition scrubbing tests with control screen of 106µm did not achieve the desirable yield for purification of this kaolin sample, but hydro cyclone experiments resulted in better results. Hydro cyclone with 2.54 cm diameter used and the only variable was the cyclone inlet pressure ranging from 68.65kPa to 98.07kPa. The best inlet pressure was found to be 68.65kPa. Based on the optimized condition, Al2O3 and CaO amount in the hydro-cyclone overflow was 23% and 1.47% respectively. However weight recovery of the overflow in each cyclone experiment was less than 30% and multi stages of hydro-cyclones would have to be applied for higher weight recovery and better yield. All of the flotation tests were carried out in the conventional Denver flotation cell model D-12. Reverse floatation tests for calcite removal were carried out under alkali pH based on full factorial design of variables in 2 levels including one center point. The three parameters tested were collector dosage (gr/ton), pH and depressant dosage (gr/ton). The collected data from flotation tests were analyzed and optimized collector and depressant dosage were 1000 gr/ton and optimized pH was 8.5. Under the above mentioned conditions, calcite removal was about 75% and CaO content in the final product was reduced from 4.35% to 1.33%. However calcite removal will increase to more than 83% if the feed particle size in flotation tests is reduced from 210µm to finer than 53µm. Finally after optimization, the best working condition and possible flow sheet were developed.

"A research program on modelling cement grinding circuits has been in operation at Hacettepe University, Ankara, for four years. It has concentrated so far on tube mill and air separator grinding circuits for cement clinker, with emphasis on plant sampling surveys, including axial sampling inside the tube mills. The data used for model development have come from 33 surveys in 9 plants.The operating conditions have been:- mill sizes - 3.2 to 4.8 metres diameter and 8.5 to 15 metres long,- mill feed rates - 46 to 158 tonnes per hour,- air flow through mills - 25000 to 125000 cubic metres per hour,- cement clinker work indexes - 10.3 to 18,- separator sizes - 2. to 3.1 metres diameter,- separator feed rates - 132 to 689 tonnes per hour,- separator speeds - 12.3 to 21 metres per second.The ball mill model is Whiten’s perfect mixing model and the separator model is the Tromp curve with a fish-hook. This paper emphasises the importance of calculating the breakage rates and the discharge functions with three case studies at five different circuits which were selected for discussion because they show how particular features of circuit operation can be included in the general models. "In practice the advantages of high-quality hydrocyclone separation are often reduced due to varying feed suspension properties, solids concentrations and particle size distributions. Therefore, a new control system for a battery of hydrocyclones with a nominal diameter of 150 mm was developed for bentonite slurry regeneration associated with tunnel excavation using bentonite slurry as a transport aid and lubricant.As can be seen from Fig. 1, the hydrocyclone battery has been modified for regulation purpose. The battery was manufactured with an overflow collector as a closed pressure chamber (1) with a discharge pipe (2) where the throttling valve (3) was installed.With increased stepwise throttling of the overflow, the volume split is changed with the effect that the solids discharge in the underflow is increased. To stabilize the total throughput, the feed pump speed is simultaneously increased so that the pressure drop ?p across the hydrocyclones (9) remains approximately constant. However, this causes the increasing pressure inside the hydrocyclones, which results in a further intensification of the underflow discharge. After the detection of the break through of the air core (transition state) by the capacitive sensor (4), the throttle valve is shortly opened, and a new regulation interval can start again. The control concept is focused on maintaining the optimum operating state, characterized by the underflow discharge shape at the transition state between rope and umbrella discharge."

"Tailings from lead-zinc mine contain plenty of dolomite and low-grade fine-grained barite, which is difficult to enrich by mineral processing. Since the density of barite and dolomite has some differences due to the fine dissemination size in a complex sedimentary, the gravity separation tests were conducted with no results obtained. The magnetic separation was conducted to remove the magnetic gangues, and the results were not satisfactory because of the gangue minerals such as limonite and others were low in content. The results of floatation tests showed that the mineral separation of barite and dolomite is quite difficult because that they have similar mineral floatability. Experimental research shows that the good results can be obtained by “desulfurizationbarite floatation” processing with the new depressant TS. The barite concentrate containing BaSO4 91.27%, BaSO4recovery is 70.25% when sodium dodecyl sulfonate serves as a collector and TS as the depressant.INTRODUCTIONBarite is an important mineral material. Often associated with other minerals, it usually needs to be separated by mineral processing in order to meet the application requirements. The main barite beneficiation methods include hand sorting, gravity separation, floatation, magnetic separation, acid leaching, etc. Usually barite associated with oxide ore such as fluorite dolomite, quartz ore etc. are also associated with sulfide ore such as pyrite, sphalerite and galena. The separation between barite and sulfide ore (such as pyrite) is easy. On the other hand, the separation between barite and oxide ore (such as dolomite and fluorite) is very difficult. There are quite a lot of reports on the separation between barite with fluorite dolomite however the separation between barite and dolomite is seldom discussed.The ore properties are quite complex attributable to mineral assemblage containing a large amounts of dolomite. As the density of barite and dolomite has some differences, gravity separation between them is usually easy. The gravity separation tests were conducted with no results obtained due to the fine dissemination size in a complex sedimentary. The magnetic separation was conducted to remove the magnetic gangues, and the results are not satisfactory as the gangue minerals such as limonite and others were low in content. Due to the fine dissemination and intimate association of minerals, and barite and dolomite contain the same group ions of Ba2+, Ca2+ and Mg2+, the results of flotation tests showed that the mineral separation between barite and dolomite by flotation means problematic. Previous studies have been conducted by several institutions but none to date has come up with a satisfactory process in dealing with the deposit. This may be attributable to: high cost of reagents; unsatisfactory performance. Therefore, the key to the flotation separation of barite and dolomite is the application of selective inhibitors. Based on previous test observations and years of extensive research experience in barite processing technology, with the new depressant TS has selectivity inhibition on dolomite developed and used, good results can be obtained by “desulfurization-barite flotation”, which allows barite in the lead-zinc tailings to a comprehensive recovery."

Zirconium and hafnium are two important elements in nuclear industries. Zirconium is used in fuel rod for its low neutron absorption. Hafnium should be separated from zirconium, because it has higher neutron absorption cross section. In this research, separation process of the mentioned elements from (Zr+Hf)Cl4 mixture produced in the Zirconium production plant (ZPP) of Iran (Esfahan) was studied employing solvent extraction method in the nitric acid medium by using tributylphosphate (TBP) as solvent, and kerosene as diluent. The effects of nitric acid, sodium nitrate and amount of extractant, zirconium concentration in aqueous phase, phase ratio, agitation time, and mixer agitation rate were investigated on the separation process. The process was optimized at 5 M nitric acid, 1 M sodium nitrate, 60% (v/v) TBP. The optimum values for phase ratio, agitation time and agitation rate were 1.5 min and 500 rpm respectively. In this condition, the zirconium extraction efficiency, and separation factor were 65.1% and 205.59, respectively. Finally, we accessed to nuclear grade in this research.

The Arctic is a region of special economic, geopolitical, research, socio-ethnic, and defense interests of both Russia and other countries of the Arctic zone. Introduction of innovation technologies at ore-processing factories is a direct responsibility of the state and this problem should be solved on the basis of coordination of interests of different stakeholders. The task of elaboration of scientific principles of rational state regulation in the North is very topical. Innovations require considerable investments first of all from private capital. However as an investment object innovations are not attractive for investors as they require large expenditures for long-term projects, and they are connected to high risks because market incentives form striving to get quick profits of private companies and result in a certain behaviour strategy while innovations need ?long money?. Under such conditions without state regulation of investment and innovation activities development of the mining sector in the Arctic practically has no prospects. At innovation development of mining enterprises economic growth is provided at the expense of active state innovation activities. The elaborated strategy of ore-processing enterprises should correspond to the modern paradigm of the ore-processing industry development which is not only for extraction of minerals but also for multi-profile structure having comprehensive use of the resources on the rational basis intended for rational complex utilization of mineral resources of the AZR which by the definition includes maximally full use of the whole aggregate of resources on the economically rational basis with obligatory environmental with resource reproductive and socio-economic functions and deterrents. The main principle of creation of innovation technologies is to obtain more products of higher quality with minimal costs. This allows increasing ?productivity of the resources? several times. This principle makes increasing productivity of the resources the most important and in this case efficiency of use of the resources brings extra profits at the expense of lack of new costs such as payment for protection and utilization of wastes. According to the economic theory only ratio between demand and supply is able to fix optimal proportions in economy and to give necessary signals for investment activities of mining enterprises. In this context market for minerals and increase of mineral resources productivity do not create incentives for investment activities without which neither sustainable economic growth nor solution of macroeconomic tasks are possible. Nevertheless countries should not reject this idea in spite of economic efficiency of the enterprises. Extraction degree of useful components and especially oil in the Arctic zone is one of the lowest in the world. This can lead to crisis of oil industry and other mining sectors. The reason for that is lack of a state policy of realization of innovation technologies in the mining sector in the Arctic.

"Adsorption of Pd (II) anions on the surface of activated carbon (Norit 0.8) occurred at high proton concentration (0.01 – 2.5M, HCl) in the feed and averaged 27 mg/g. The adsorption process was interpreted in terms of surface ionisation and adsorption model. Enthalpy of adsorption averaged 0.4 kJ/mole indicative of an instantaneous physical adsorption process. We found that the Toth isotherm fit the adsorption data fairly accurately. A combination of the Langmuir and Freundlich equations yields an effective three-parameter Toth equation (1) which is frequently used to describe adsorption on heterogeneous surfaces.Figure 1 shows the comparison between experimental results and the model isotherms. We found that Langmuir isotherms underestimated the adsorption capacity on the porous surface while the Freundlich isotherm overestimated adsorption. Furthermore, the surface coverage at equilibrium was well described by both the Langmuir and Toth isotherms. But, Freundlich isotherm predicted a surface fraction coverage that was higher than unit. Based on better prediction of surface coverage and a reasonable fit to adsorption data, we concluded that the Toth isotherm best described the adsorption data of palladium. The adsorption process was limited by mass transfer resistance through the external film. We estimated the rate constant from equation (2), where e, ?b, and rp are porosity, fluid density and particle radius, respectively"

"The optimization of the copper recovery from smelting slag by a process of comminution / flotation has been a widely discussed topic during the last few decades. Several studies covering the characterization of different types of slag, the impact of the slag cooling rate and of different flotation operating conditions on the flotation performance have been widely published. Currently, at El Soldado mine site (Angloamerican), there are large copper bearing slag deposits that can be a profitable alternative for the concentrator with capacity to treat this material. Under this process schema, the optimization of the flotation process to obtain better copper recoveries is a relevant topic of study. The aim of this study is to assess the efficiency of a sulfidation stage of a slag and to correlate that process with copper recoveries results in a flotation circuit. This article presents a detailed examination at both laboratory and plant scales of the slag sulfidation on the recovery of copper in the flotation process. The experimental methodology involves studying the effect of the sulfidation agent dosage, the pH, the particle size distribution of the flotation feed and the conditioning time. Furthermore, the performance of the sulfidation stage was analysed through the XPS analytical technique. It was observed that the sulfidation of particles in floatable size fractions correlated well with the increase in copper recovery. The results indicated that it is possible to increase between 2 to 4 points the total copper recovery with a sulfidation process implemented appropriately."

"The potential of Fe(NO3)3 modified attapulgite was assessed for the adsorption of phosphorous removal from aqueous solutions. Natural attapulgite was modified by Fe(NO3)3, and thus the composite adsorption materials could be obtained. Also phosphorous adsorption characterization on the iron-coated attapulgite was investigated in this research. Taken overall the results suggested that phosphorous adsorption capacity could be improved markedly by adopting ferric modified-attapulgite. The optimum phosphorous adsorption were developed in the experimental conditions of the solid-to-liquid Ratio 1g/L, the initial phosphorous concentration 5 mol•L-1, reaction time 120 min, temperature 25 ? and pH=4.0, the removal efficiency is 92.28% for the modified attapulgite. In comparison of batch experimental results of phosphorous adsorption onto natural and iron-coated attapulgite, it has provided much more likely the same change trend. On the other hand, the outcomes of this analysis indicated that ferric modified adsorbent was notably influenced by adsorption element over natural attapulgite. The Freundlich isotherm adequately described the adsorption course of phosphorous onto ferric modified-attapulgite with the correlation coefficient R2 goodness of fit of 0.9690."

The mechanisms taking place during the leaching of chalcopyrite when it is in contact with other sulphide minerals, particularly pyrite, is still a matter not fully solved. The GalvanoxTM process has been suggested as a technical solution to extract copper from chalcopyrite at commercial level inhibiting passivation phenomena widely reported in the field of hydrometallurgy. Although there are some rules of thumb to implement the process in fully flooded stirred conditions such as the optimum pyrite/chalcopyrite mass ratio should range between 2 and 4, among others; not many research studies have been focused on studying the effect of the surface contact area between chalcopyrite and pyrite to reach best copper extraction conditions. The aim of this research work is to determine the effect of the mass and surface area ratio between the minerals and the surface area of each of the mineral species effectively exposed to the leaching solution. Different particle size distributions of pure pyrite and chalcopyrite were contacted in a small column and subjected to leach tests using sulphuric acid in concentrations close those used in industrial leaching processes. The mass and surface area ratios which optimize the extraction of copper were obtained. It was found the best leaching conditions were attained when reducing the particle size distribution of pyrite regardless the particle size distribution of chalcopyrite. Further analysis concerning the impact of this conclusions on large scale operations is presented and discussed.

The aim of this study was to investigate the feasibility studies of seawater in flotation of a 1.5 mass % of copper containing copper sulfide ore. Effects of seawater, various frothers, and different distilled water/seawater ratio on flotation of copper sulfide ore were studied. Surface properties of native copper ore and sea water soaked were examined by using FT-IR spectrometry. Chemical contents of the copper sulfide ore and after flotation were identified using XRD studies. XRD pattern showed that the main constituents of the copper sulfide ore are chalcopyrite (CuFeS2), bornite (Cu5FeS4). Flotation experiments were carried out using mechanical agitation flotation equipment with a mineral separation type flotation cell. Froth flotation experiment was conducted using calcium hydroxide was used as a pH adjuster, using methyl isobutyl carbinol (MIBC), dow froth 250 (DF 250) as frothers and potassium amyl xanthate (PAX) as collector for the copper recovery from the copper sulfide ore containing chalcopyrite and bornite. The results showed that the copper recovery by flotation was dependent on the flotation medium and frother. The main results showed that the copper recovery by flotation was dependent on the process water and frother. The copper recovery reached 97 % and 87 % in the distilled water flotation and seawater flotation with MIBC, respectively. For seawater flotation with DF 250, the Cu recovery achieved near 95 % and grade of Cu in the froth product after 5 min flotation was reached 29.8 mass %.

Iron ore concentrate contains different mineral phases viz. hematite, magnetite, goethite, kaolinite, and gibbsite. Presence of some of these phases like goethite, kaolinite, and gibbsite contribute to the loss on ignition (LOI) content of the sample. Iron ore fines (pellet feed) are pelletized for utilization in DRI & BF processes. In the present pelletization technology i.e., straight grate and grate kiln processes, the LOI in the ore should be within the range of 2.0-2.5%. LOI content in the iron ore concentrate is found to be more than 4% after beneficiation of low-grade iron ore. It is therefore difficult to produce good quality pellet because of high LOI content. The LOI content of the sample is a detrimental factor in the pellet making. For effective pelletization, the LOI content in iron ore fines needs to be reduced before pelletization. It can be reduced by fluidized bed roasting. The objective of present work is to understand the kinetics of removal of LOI from iron ore fines. The effects of bed depth, temperature, and residence time on reduction of LOI content in iron ore fines were studied using muffle furnace. The process of roasting was carried out at four different temperatures varying from 400 to 950 °C with a variable residence time of 30, 45, 60 & 75 minutes and at bed depths of 16, 32, 48 & 64 mm. In all instance of experiments carried out, one of the parameters was kept constant. It was observed that at 850 °C and 30 minutes of residence time, there was sufficient removal of LOI in static bed condition even at a high bed depth of 64 mm.
