"Underground coal mining is the dominant method of extracting thermal and coking coal in the southern and western coalfields of New South Wales. Monitoring mining-related subsidence forms an important component of environmental impact assessments and subsidence management plans, particularly when there are conflicts between the interests and requirements of mining and environment and community groups. However, there are few specific guidelines for monitoring the impacts of subsidence on terrestrial and aquatic ecosystems, leading to inconsistent policy approaches and highly variable abilities of monitoring programs to accurately detect biological change.This paper highlights the use of a conceptual framework to guide the development of a long-term ecological monitoring program at an underground coalmine in the Western Blue Mountains, New South Wales. Two pilot studies are described: determining the level of observer agreement to assess the condition of a vulnerable tree species (Capertee Stringybark) comparing field sampling methods for detecting a rare heath shrub, Epacris muelleri, using a power analysis to determine sampling intensity requirements.These examples demonstrate that investment in initial pilot studies to test different monitoring approaches can have long-term benefits for stakeholders by more confidently being able to detect potential impacts.CITATION:McCaffrey, N?B,?Glenn, V, Erskine, P?D, Johns,?C?and Fletcher, A?T, 2014. Since the first occupation of New Zealand in 800 - 900 AD, various useful minerals, rocks, and energy resources have been identified and extracted. The Maori prized greenstone for ornaments, tools, and weapons, used argillite and obsidian for tools, and decorated their carvings and bodies with colours made from clays, limonite, and vivianite. They were aware of coal (waro), but are not known to have used it for fuel. Before 1840, visiting whalers used coal from Shag Point to heat their trypots. Mining activities got underway in the 1840s, with the finding of manganese oxide deposits in the Bay of Islands, Kawau Island, Waiheke+ Island, and Taieri Mouth. Secondary copper ore was mined on Kawau Island (1846 - 1869), and native sulphur was exported from White Island to Europe. The discovery of gold at Coromandel in 1852 and a few years later in Northwest Nelson and Otago opened the way to gold rushes in these areas and subsequently in Marlborough and Westland. Mining of alluvial gold evolved through sluicing to the invention of gold dredges; first (1863) was the simple spoon design, but later (1881) large steam-powered bucket-ladder machines weighing around 3800 tonnes were built. Most of the gold dredges had gone by the early 1960s, following a revival in the 1930s, but one large dredge operates today on the Grey River. Other mining events included: underground mining of coal from 1849 and underground mining of lode gold from 1863 in the Coromandel, Reefton, and Otago fields. Most outcropping coal deposits had been discovered by 1870. Building stones were used by the early settlers for construction of houses, churches, banks, public buildings, and some universities from 1836. Aggregate for roads, railway ballast, and concrete, and limestone for cement and fertiliser, and clays for bricks and china have been quarried for many years.

The mining industry often embraces mine closure criteria that require the reinstatement of predisturbance or even presettlement (ie historic) ecosystems. However, the extent and severity of disturbance associated with most mining activities mean that critical physical and biological characteristics are irreversibly altered. Consequently, it is rare that a reconstructed landscape can support ecosystems even close to the historic condition, and this rarity is reflected in the small number of mine leases that have been extinguished by attainment of such completion criteria. Novel ecosystems are defined as those in which some or all physical and biotic components are irreversibly different from the historic condition. Recognition of the concept of novel ecosystems allows mine closure criteria to be set according to attainable physical and biological conditions that provide safe, stable and manageable environments with acceptable ecological functions. We propose that a landscape that first maximises physical stability and economy yet will provide a range of environments for vegetation communities and fauna habitats that may be very different from those existing prior to a disturbance should be considered suitable alternatives to, eg targeting idealised historic environments. As a result, mine closure criteria should be established by detailed description of the best attainable physical conditions, with negotiated identification and testing of the most appropriate biological systems for the various parts of the reconstructed landscape. As a general practice, revegetation would use native, but not necessarily local species if the new physical environment is not conducive to the survival and growth of local species. These new ecosystems would need to be managed in perpetuity, although the intensity of management might be low if landscape design and engineering are combined with appropriate species introductions. Here, we suggest an abbreviated procedure that may be adapted in light of local conditions and circumstances for guiding decisions influencing the physical and biological properties of reconstructed landscapes that will enable novel ecosystems to meet realistic closure criteria.CITATION:Doley, D and Audet, P, 2014. The Upper Waimangaroa mining permit is part of the Buller Coalfield and lies on the eastern side of the Stockton-Denniston Plateau. The mining permit area is estimated to contain a total in-ground coal resource of 58 million tonnes, contained within 13 separate coal resource .blocks. The coal is Bituminous High Volatile B rank with export potential as semi soft coking or thermal coal. The Northern Opencast mine is the first mine proposed for Upper Waimangaroa and consists of the three resource blocks at the northern end of the permit area. The highwall of the mine will cut into the Mt William Range resulting in overburden cover of up to 150 metres in some areas. The ability to rehabilitate the area after mining was a major consideration in the design of the mine. The Northern Opencast area has been geologically mapped, extensively drilled and effectively modelled using Vulcan software. Three distinct coal seams are present and the mineable in situ resource is estimated at 8.7 million tonnes of which approximately 7.1 million tonnes is likely to be recoverable. It is proposed that this resource will be mined using opencast methods and the void will be backfilled with overburden. The life of the mine is at this stage estimated at 19 years based on an annual production of 500,000 tonnes at 1.8% sulphur and the Upper Waimangaroacoal will be blended with low sulphur coal from the Greymouth Coalfield to meet export specifications. The Northern Opencast area contains a range of native flora and fauna and physical features which make it an environmentally significant area. Mining will totally modify the area, thus an effective rehabilitation scheme is an integral part of the mine plan. Various rehabilitation methods will be used, and wherever possible, the backfilled areas will be rehabilitated so as to resemble the original area as closely as possible.

Much attention in controlling blast vibrations has been centred on the probability of causing damage to structures in the area adjacent to where blasting is carried out. In most cases these structures are residential properties and the effect of the vibrations on the occupiers has not been studied to any great extent. This paper looks at the sources of disturbance caused by blasting and their psychological effect. A comparison of ground vibration levels for compliance is examined within the framework of structural and human response.

The Telfer Underground sublevel cave (SLC) Operation is located approximately 850 m below surface. The cave was designed to propagate through an old decline which was initially used to monitor the cave. There was a requirement to install air blast plugs at two locations in the old decline in order to isolate any potential air-blasts from the active workings in the event of the rock mass collapsing into the cavity. There was a further requirement for an air-blast plug in another section of the mine where there was a risk of the cave intersecting an old workshop and providing an air-blast pathway through an abandoned incline. The design criteria for the plugs was that they should withstand the design air blast loading, be free draining, cost effective and easily constructed with the mining expertise available on site. A plug consisting of grouted mullock was considered robust and least challenging to construct. For the purpose of estimation of maximum air pressure on plugs, it is supposed as a worst case that the rock above a cave falls as an airtight piston onto the top of a muck pile, forcing air into it and also mine workings intersected by the cave. Airflow through the muck pile is governed by Ergun's equation for turbulent flow. In a time-stepping integration scheme, transient air pressures and velocities are calculated according to equations of thermodynamics, in the cave and at intervals along intersected drives by means of a finite difference spatial discretisation. The ability of plugs to withstand computed pressures is assessed by finite element elastoplastic analysis. This paper outlines the rationale for potential air blast loading, calculation of transient air pressures, plug design and analysis of plug behaviour. The plug construction method is also discussed.

"Sunrise Dam Gold Mine (SDGM) is located 820 km from Perth, 220 km from Kalgoorlie—Boulder and 55 km south of Laverton in Western Australia. The SDGM main pit had successfully operated since 1997 and was due to be completed during 2012. An opportunity existed to extract the high-grade crown pillar – 600 kt @ 7 g/t for 135 koz by either open pit or underground methods.The crown pillar was the 60 m (vertically) thick remaining part of the high-grade Cosmo orebody between the top of the paste filled underground mine stopes and the planned base of the final open pit shell.There were two major difficulties being considered when choosing the underground or open pit options:a major wall failure in the upper section of the main pit wall directly above the crown pillar restricting access from the base of the open pit to the top of the crown pillarimpact of a high rainfall event while the crown pillar was being mined from either surface or underground resulting in flooding of the underground mine workings.This paper will discuss the following issues:the process to identify and evaluate the risks in both options using knowledge based modelling software; this technique allowed the evaluation of a complex set of assumptions to arrive at the preferred optionremediation of the Watu failurethe selection of the preferred option and the challenges encountered before, during and after the extraction of the crown pillarthe planning and geotechnical work to ensure the safe extraction of the crown pillarsuccessful outcomes transitioning from open pit operation to a solely underground operation.Citation:Robeson, A, Cowan, M and Brockman, M, 2016. The objective of this paper is to examine some modern forms of auxiliary ventilation fabric ducting with streamline design fittings and the efficiency of construction practices. The most dynamic form of auxiliary ventilation is a moveable fan and ducting, which is easy to install and uses light weight fabric. The porous nature of some ducting construction results in leakage and loss of efficiency. Flexible fabric ducting is primarily associated with metalliferous mining and industrial material quarrying. Some applications are found in coal in stone/rock development and with use of dust scrubbers.Forcing auxiliary ventilation systems employing circular fabric ducting have been examined. Leakage of air from ducting is affected by ducting material and construction methodology (such as welded or sewn), quality of installation, number of joints, total length, pressure differences between the inside and outside and diameter. The best ducting system with welded construction can have up to four times less leakage as compared with some systems with sewn construction. It is also evident that the sewn type ducting will deliver less air to working faces and require more fan power, hence higher operating costs to run when connected to the same fan.A case study has also been undertaken to compare predicted operating costs of auxiliary ventilation systems connecting various types of ventilation duct fittings. The study also assesses the technical importance of streamline design with low aerodynamic resistance to reduce the shock losses of the duct fittings. It was found that the system connected with streamline designed fittings is able to provide some power cost savings and deliver more air compared with the system fitted with conventional fitting pieces.Using a ventilation ducting system with a lower leakage and frictional characteristic represents a sound solution to new challenges faced by the industry for increasing demand for better quantities and quality of air delivered to working faces; this is due to higher production schedules and stricter mine health and safety regulations within the Australian mining industry.CITATION:Wu, H W and Gillies, A D S, 2017. Geostatistics has been widely used for more than four decades as a powerful tool in ore resource/reserve estimates and grade control. This method has gradually replaced the conventional method such as polygon and cross-section for grade estimation by more mathematical techniques such as kriging. The advances in geostatistical understanding and the availability of appropriate software packages have given much more contribution in speed and high accuracy during production. However, in many cases, these techniques are sometime applied without support with a good thorough understanding of the geological controls on metal distribution. To produce the result close to actual, the geological control in interpretation and appropriate geostatistical task is a must. Geological logging was described in the core must be consistent with the level plan produced by commercial modelling software used as a guide for grade control during production. Experience gained through evaluation of the Central I deposit resulted that the most effective systems continue to be based on geostatistical methods of resource estimation. Computer applications modelling software packages are necessarily as the core of an efficient in undertaking these assignments. They contribute to make a valued to data management and are becoming increasingly effective during processing. The latter role is particularly important to check the actual versus estimated values where will significantly to improve personnel to have a confident with their knowledge combined with experience and complete their jobs satisfy.

The Northparkes E26 Mine is AustraliaÆs first block cave mine. This paper presents an outline of the design and construction philosophies that drove the project development and details the excavation, ground support and construction methods used. Features of the block caving method at Northparkes include:high production rates from multiple drawpoints;hard blocky ore fractured along gypsum veins; andloading/unloading of openings due to mining induced stresses.The drawpoints are subjected to high abrasion from the flow of ore, as well as impact from both secondary blasting and from the production LHDs. In order to withstand these harsh conditions and to ensure a low maintenance environment, a conservative approach to ground support was taken. The experiences gained during construction are discussed and whether the design expectations have been achieved. By installing a high level of ground support during excavation of the openings subject to mining stresses, a low maintenance environment has been constructed. Operating costs are therefore minimised and Northparkes E26 Mine continues to produce at the lowest cost per tonne of all Australian underground mines.

The Kucing Liar skarn deposit is located in the Ertsberg mining district, which also contains other skarn deposits and the Grasberg porphyry copper û gold deposit. The Ertsberg district is located in the province of Irian Jaya, IndonesiaÆs easternmost province. Mining development began in the Ertsberg district in 1972 with the mining of the Ertsberg deposit. Daily production in the district now averages about 230 000 tonnes of ore, with the bulk of the ore coming from the Grasberg open pit and the balance from underground mining of skarn deposits. During 1998, 45 218 additional metres of drilling were conducted to delineate and understand the Kucing Liar orebody. The deposit was first intersected in drill holes in 1994 and then was intersected in underground workings located about 1000 metres from the discovery drill hole in 1995. Initially, the two intersections were thought to be different orebodies but are now realised to be different parts of the same orebody. The Kucing Liar deposit consists of magnetite û copper û gold replacement and skarn mineralisation in favorable Tertiary and Cretaceous units. The deposit is approximately 2000 metres in length and averages about 200 to 250 metres in thickness. The width varies from 400 to 600 metres. Drilling in 1998 was directed towards delineating the deposit on its NW and SE ends and to determine its down dip extension. Reserves for the deposit at the end of 1998 stand at 320 million tonnes at 1.4 per cent copper, 1.4 g/t gold, and 5.3 g/t silver. Many important questions remain to be answered concerning the relationship of the Kucing Liar orebody to the major faults in the district and to the Grasberg intrusive complex which contains the Grasberg orebody. Continued exciting developments are anticipated as work to understand the deposit by drilling and geologic study continues.

Precrusher stockpiles are designed principally as buffers to decouple the mining and processing operations. They are usually paddock dumped or dumped over a face to form fingers by dumping haul truckloads and reclaimed by front-end loader in an ad hoc manner. In addition, they are often not built and reclaimed to completion but continually added to and extracted from. While this design suits the mining process and is operationally simple, there can be little confidence in the grade of the ore that is fed to the crusher. This makes short-term grade control difficult and reconciliation back to the mine face imprecise. Well-designed and operated precrusher stockpiles can overcome these deficiencies.The different types of grade variability in mining are reviewed in this paper. The role of precrusher stockpiles in reducing short-term variability is discussed and their ineffectiveness in addressing long-term variability is highlighted. Their role in removing the serial correlation of the extracted ore is explained.Precrusher stockpiles carry out the four, at times competing, objectives of storing, buffering, blending and grade separation. Their actual design and operation result from a compromise between these four competing roles. These roles are explained in detail along with the advantages and disadvantages of the different types of precrusher stockpiles. The recommended blended-in blended-out stockpile (BIBO) design is discussed in detail. Matched pairs of BIBO stockpiles of limited tonnage built and reclaimed to completion retain the best knowledge of grade and facilitate the reconciliation process.Simulation studies have been carried out on BIBO stockpiles to understand the blending opportunities of the different options for building and reclaiming, and to identify the methods that achieve maximum blending. It was found that laying down rows in one direction and reclaiming across these rows gives the best blending. Matching the width of the reclaim face with the daily crushing requirements is also important. The requirement for rapid vertical development for underground ventilation is often a factor when dealing with dynamic mine plans, with short vertical developments being used to optimise ventilation systems. In an effort to increase the safety and efficiency of the constructions, a simple and effective sinking methodology is required that is both adaptable and repeatable. A modified shaft construction methodology is proposed that attempts to minimise risk to the personnel as well as be cost-effective. Readily available equipment is used to ensure adaptability to the various environments and shaft parameters.One of the greatest risks of shaft sinking is having personnel working suspended over open cavities or underneath suspended loads. Removing this risk, by ensuring all construction is done from solid ground, allows for safer sinking operations. As the process is repeatable, familiarity and confidence in its construction sequence will increase with each successive sink.A trial sink is performed with a 3.6 m diameter, 20 m deep shaft. The shaft was excavated using a conventional strip-and-line philosophy, with the shaft then being lined from the collar via the use of large diameter corrugated steel culverts. The annulus between the steel culverts and shaft excavation is then filled with a concrete mixture to secure it in position.The new process was successful, with no personnel at any time during the process being suspended above an open excavation. The installation had relatively low capital and operational costs and was completed faster than an equivalent, conventional concrete-lined shaft construction. Therefore when compared to conventional shaft-sinking methods, this process can be considered safer, more efficient and relatively cost-effective.Further research is required to determine whether this method can be expanded to larger vertical developments.CITATION:Markoski, R and Grealish, P, 2014. The paper continues an account, begun in a previous paper, of experimental work carried out by the author whilst a member of the metallurgical staff at the Cockle Creek Works. The general method of the description of the plant and works practice adopted previously has been followed.The paper is a short account of the methods used in and the results of an investigation of the fume losses from the various parts of the plant.MEASUREMENT OF VOLUMETwo independent methods were used. The first depended on a number of pitot-tube measurements of velocity. These readings were taken in the stacks leading from the various furnaces at a considerable height above the ground so as to obtain as regular conditions as possible at the points where the readings were taken.Three openings were made in each stack and the pitot tube inserted into each opening in turn and readings taken at the centres of imaginary areas of equal size. The average velocity in the stack was thus obtained.After four tests had been made at the smelter stack, which removed the gases from all blast furnaces in use, the centre of velocity of the gases for each test was calculated and was found to be practically constant in position. The previous procedure was varied in subsequent tests on this stack by taking a succession of readings at the centre of velocity instead of at various points...

Civil engineering infrastructures are often subjected to different types of natural and mechanical activities. These influences may result in serviceability or even in stability of structures due to material deformations, increased water content within the materials used or the formation of internal or adjacent cavities that may threaten the infrastructure. Construction practices can lead to development of such defects in the form of cavities. In civil engineering it is crucial to detect these variations in material properties and to detect the presence of defects. However, as they are often hidden from view, these attributes may be difficult or impossible to target with traditional testing methods. For these reasons rapid geophysical methods, such as ground penetrating radar (GPR), are increasingly being used. At the University of Queensland (UQ) GPR is used for detection of voids and cavities which have been caused by an over excavation of the earth pressure balance machine (EPB) operating in a closed mode.A variety of numerical simulations using the finite-difference time-domain (FDTD) methods and preliminary experiments have been carried out in order to specify information about the nature, type, size, location and other characteristics of targets to be detected by GPR. In doing this the difficulty of interpreting GPR data, which is mainly due to the complexity of the factors involved in multiple possible solutions of the observed features, can be overcome.

The depletion of high-grade hard and lumpy chrome ores has forced Zimbabwean ferrochrome producers to resort to low-grade friable ores that have an average of 28 per cent fines against a set limit of 12 per cent. Submerged open arc furnaces currently in use are associated with eruptions within the furnace because of the high amounts of fines, high energy consumption, as well as high SO2 and CO2 emissions. Traditionally employed agglomeration methods such as pelletising and the use of coke in the furnace have been discarded because of the pressure to lower operational costs and to achieve higher profit margins. This research aims to develop a method to incorporate lowgrade friable ore fines and unprocessed coal into production while lowering CO2 and SO2 emissions through a closed direct current (DC) arc furnace. The closed DC arc furnace could incorporate the friable ores and coal while maintaining above 90 per cent reduction rates. Preliminary findings also show that energy consumption could be reduced by up to 35 per cent by incorporating a pre-heating and pre-reduction system using the flue gases from the furnace. In the proposed circuit, the cost of production per ton of ferrochrome might be potentially lowered by an average of 30 per cent.

Iron ore, which is transported by rail from the iron ore mines at Sishen in the Northern Cape, to the Saldanha Iron Ore Terminal in the Western Cape, needs to be analysed while loading to be exported. Every shipment will be sampled and an average analysis of the ore will be produced which is required by the purchaser at the receiving port. On arrival at the iron ore terminal at Saldanha, the ore is tipped from the rail trucks onto conveyor belts to be either stockpiled or direct-loaded. The conveyor belts run under the sampling plant and the ore is sampled periodically by means of an automated cross-belt sampler. This is the first iron ore port sampling facility in which the automated sampler is situated above the conveyor belts and not adjacent to them. A portion of the primary sample taken off the belt is moved to the dedicated sampling laboratory situated behind the cross-belt sampler and over the conveyor belt lines. The sample is split in the laboratory, one split being used for moisture and particle size determination and the other part is dried and then analysed by means of X-ray fluorescence spectrometry (XRFS) on fusion beads for major and minor elements. Particular care is taken to obtain high quality data for penalty elements.This sampling plant is completely automated and from the primary cross-belt sampler to final analysis by XRFS no manual steps are involved. This has meant that some processes are used which are suitable for automation and are ISO compliant but not necessarily ISO-certificated. The ISO manuals were developed with manual laboratory processes in mind. Precautions are also taken to maintain the integrity and representativity of the samples. Poor standards of electrical installation and maintenance continue to contribute to electrical related fatalities and injury risk in the mining industry. Electrical isolation has the potential to initiate major unwanted events (MUEs) and as such requires thorough analysis to demonstrate adequate management. There have been 719 incidents related to accidental contact with electricity over the past five years in the Queensland mining industry (Queensland Government DME, 2012a, 2012b) with the last fatality being recorded in 1997 (MESA, 2012).A project funded by the Australian Coal Association Research Program (ACARP) has developed a form of a safety case using the four-layered æCoal Mine Safety Regime (CMSR)Æ approach. The CMSR is transparent and robust as it includes full site risk assessment and special issues risk assessment to be demonstrated as part of the process.The practical application of the CMSR has been demonstrated using a longwall mining case study site, where a unique 11 kV armoured face conveyor (AFC) is in operation. The case study has involved progressive application of the requirements of each layer of the CMSR (see Figure 1) to high voltage (HV) electrical isolation related issues. The project has specifically concentrated on understanding and analysing two high priority MUEs, electric shock and unplanned movement of equipment, through Layer 1 analysis. These two MUEs are an important part of the project as they have demonstrated the steps that may be taken to satisfy the risk management processes at Layer 1 of the CMSR and have contributed to resolving issues at the other three layers of the CMSR.The analysis of HV electrical isolation has been used as an exemplar to demonstrate the CMSR process and its practical application. The CMSR is applicable to major/principal hazards management as identified by the New South Wales and Queensland jurisdictions.This paper provides an overview of the development of a form of safety case using the CMSR and introduces the case study application for HV electrical isolation risk management at underground coal mines focusing on the major unwanted event of electric shock.This project provides the mining industry with a documented, publicly accessible, form of safety case using the CMSR approach for the first time.CITATION:Kizil, G V, Griffiths, D, Bye, A and Joy, J, 2012. The mechanization of the coal industry in New South Wales involved the introduction of large face and transport machines. The trend is towards still higher capacity units with .greater horsepower and it became apparent that a potential risk of damage to the hearing of workmen existed. In order to assess whether the sound levels were SUfficiently high to impair the hearing of workmen a sound level survey of all major operations in the industry was carried out by the Mining Engineering Division of the Joint Coal Board.The results indicated ·that the operations could be classified into three categories of risk, probably hazardous, of doubtful hazard due to the intermittency of the operations, and of low hazard.Legislation has subsequently been enacted requiring the wearing of hearing preservation aids in some of the probable risk operations.

The Louvicourt Mine is located 600 km north of Montreal in the province of Quebec, Canada. The owners are Aur Resources Inc (30 per cent), mine operator, Novicourt Inc (45 per cent) and Teck Corporation (25 per cent). It is an underground mechanised operation with a total work of 290 employees. Since 1994, the mine production is 11 120 456 tonnes at 3.60 per cent Cu, 1.51 per cent Zn, 26.07 g/mt Ag and 0.96 g/mt Au. At a rate of 4300 tonnes per day 365 days per year. Louvicourt Mine is a copper operation since 80 per cent of our revenue is from copper. The mining method is transverse blasthole stoping, mining primary and secondary stopes. The stope dimension is 15 m wide by 30 m high and 10 m to 80 m long for primary stopes. The secondary stopes are limited at 25 m long. Close to 100 000 metres of production drilling per year is required for 115 mm and 165 mm diameter holes. Backfilling is done with pastefill from the start of the operation in 1994. The binder ratio is 4.5 per cent in primary and two per cent in secondary stopes (80 per cent slag and 20 per cent cement). Development requirement to maintain production was 5000 m from 1996, 1997, 1998, 4200 in year 1999, 3200 m in year 2000 and an average of 2500 m in 2001 and 2002. Typical 6.0 m + 4.3 m, 4.9 m + 4.6 m and 4.5 m + 4.6 m headings. In addition more than 1500 metres of development will be excavated in/under paste backfill before 2004. A total of 60 mobile units are required among which for lateral development (three two boom electric hydraulic jumbos û AC Boomer 322, four electric hydraulic roofbolters û Maclean MEM-928 and AC Boltec PL350 and two anfo loader truck û Dux) and for production (four ITH drills û MTI, one electric hydraulic longhole drill û AC Simba H1357, eight LHD û AC-Wagner ST8-B, 1 LHD ST-1000 and two haulage 30 tons trucks û Dux. The 1 January 2002 reserves are 4.1 M tonnes grading 3.1 per cent Cu and 1.9 per cent Zn at an NSR (Net Smelter Revenue) of $US 53. The operating mining costs were at an average of $US 23 from 1996 to year 2000 and $US 25 in 2001. The operating costs ranged from a low of $US 0.41 per pound of copper in 1999 to a high of $US 0.49 per pound of copper in 1998.
