"The study was carried out using process solutions produced during cyanidation of gold-bearing concentrates from a gold-processing plant. It was found that the water contained a significant portion of thiocyanate (7910.0 mg/L), cyanide was virtually not present. The metals occurred primarily as iron (355.0 mg/L) in the form of ferrocyanide. Cyanide recovery was conducted using an ozone treatment process with reactors developed by the Environmental Department of Irgiredmet. The process design ensured complete utilization (100%) of O3, thus equipment operation safety increased.The recovery of free cyanide from thiocyanate was 76.6%, which corresponded to 5.12 kg of NaCN (100%) per 1 m3 of solution. Recovered NaCN can be used for recycling in hydrometallurgical processes.The operating costs estimation showed that the production cost of a tonne of recovered cyanide was US$1288.7, considering the prices of energy and commercial sodium cyanide in Russia in 2017, i.e. recovered cyanide is cheaper than commercial cyanide by 55.8%.INTRODUCTION Depletion of oxidized gold-bearing ores readily amenable to cyanidation has shifted focus to large-scale processing of primary ores with high sulphide content. Primary ores processing flow sheets involve gravitational and/or flotation concentration with subsequent treatment of produced gold-bearing concentrates. Typically, concentrates reporting to cyanidation contain considerable amounts of sulphur that can interact with CN- and further formation of SCN-. The use of refractory gold liberation methods (bacterial liberation, ultra-fine grinding) provides activation of this side reaction up to complete consumption of free cyanide in a short period. This makes water recycling unviable and impractical.The interaction of the sulphur content in concentrates and cyanide contributes substantially to consumption of NaCN required for efficient gold recovery. Inappropriate consumption of the main reagent achieves dozens of kilogram per tonne of material to cyanidation, and reaches approximately 100% when gold is recovered from activated sulphide-containing products (e.g. by ultra-fine grinding)."

Votorantim Metals Corporation is one of the leader companies in the extraction of zinc in Brazil. One of its mines, located in the city of Vazante - MG, was composed by zinc silicate ores, but recent studies have indicated a change in mineralization type with arise of zinc sulphide’s ore bodies with disseminations of galena (PbS) and silver. The liberation size between sphalerite and galena in this ore occurs in very fine granulometry (approximately 18µm), fact that has negatively influenced into the flotation process. Aiming to reduce this problem, studies about the use of dispersing in the flotation process have started. Thus, this study investigated the action of different reagents dispersing on the stability of the suspensions. The tests were carried out with samples of mineral galena and sphalerite using four types of dispersing within two different dosages and two pH. The reagents tested were sodium hexametaphosphate, sodium silicate, carboxymethiylcellulose, and sodium polyacrylate. The results of the dispersion tests were analysed in relation to dispersion index. The tests with hexametaphosphate showed high dispersion for both galena and sphalerite. The sodium polyacrylate and arboxymethiylcellulose showed a high dispersion index for galena and a low index for sphalerite implying that reagent can be used in the concentration process of galena.

The production of phosphate concentrates (phosphate rock) from slimes represents a challenge to the phosphate industry worldwide. In Brazil, this challenge is particularly relevant due to the consistently low P2O5 grades and the igneous origin. The first industrial experiences of producing phosphate rock from slimes (-44µm or -325#) fraction started at Arafertil, currently Bunge Fertilizantes SA, in Araxá, in the 1980.s. This production corresponds, nowadays, to 35% of the total production of concentrates in the company (830,000t/year) in a circuit consisting of desliming in 40mm microcyclones and concentration in flotation columns, corn starch and fatty acids being utilised as reagents. The performance of slimes flotation and the process control, at Bunge´s concentrator, were improved after the introduction of column flotation technology, in the first half of the nineties. The column flotation technology for slimes recovery was expanded to other Brazilian concentrators still in the nineties: Ultrafértil (Catalão - GO), Bunge (Cajati - SP), Fosfértil (Tapira - MG) and Copebrás (Catalão - GO). At present the Brazilian production of phosphate rock is approximately 4.5Mt/year, with a strong trend for a market increase. Genuinely Brazilian technology is utilised for the processing of slimes, the concentrates representing 11 to 13% of the overall production. The production of apatite concentrates from slimes was relevant to increase phosphate recovery and reduce costs, contributing to the growth of the fertilisers industry.

"NPO RIVS employs complex approach to engineering and design of the new facilities in close cooperation of Mining, Research, Hydrometallurgy, Design, Construction, Power Supply, Automation, Production and other departments. General Design Contractor (and then General Contractor) is directly involved in geological exploration, engineering surveys, floatability studies, feasibility study of process solutions and construction options. It delivers greenfield project and guarantee its efficient performance in future. Shiralgin is a small gold and copper deposit, gold average grade is 4.7 g/t. RIVS departments have studied ore floatability, developed process procedures for design and performed pilot testing. Construction of integrated plant including ore crushing and grinding, flotation and hydrometallurgy units with Dore gold production of 5 000 thousand tons ore per year (66.7 t/h) is recognized as economically viable. The technology used of separate dry stockpiling of flotation tailings and cyanidation tailings. Water circuit for concentration and hydrometallurgy is separated, too. Process design was performed based on BIM software like Autodesk Revit, Civil 3D, Rocscience slide using process procedures developed by RIVS Research units. Engineers provided modeling of primary crushing unit, coarse ore storage, main building (including grinding, flotation, thickening, filtration, loading, hydrometallurgy), tailings thickening unit, building for reagent storage and conditioning, tailings pond for dry stockpiling of flotation tailings and cyanidation tailings, sedimentation ponds, laboratories, infrastructure including Administration building and camp. Payback period is 3.5 years. 3D model of facility is currently stored at the State Agency of Geology and Mineral Resources affiliated to the Government of the Kyrgyz Republic.INTRODUCTION The Kyrgyz Republic has substantial potential of mineral resources including gold ores. Mining industry actively develops and involves international investors. Inventory includes 42 deposits (Figure 1) that have reserves of 616.4 t [1] of gold. The Kyrgyz Republic takes the third place in gold mining among CIS countries after Russia and Uzbekistan by producing up to 20 t annually."

Water recovery in mineral processing plants is one of the most important subjects because water supply is a critical matter economically and environmentally, especially in desert areas. In this paper, the filtration behaviour of two iron ore tailing sample has been investigated using laboratory scale vacuum and pressure filtration units. These samples including tailing from Sirjan and Zarand concentrate production plants with the d80 of 94 and 41 micron, respectively. The results show that by using vacuum filtration the cake moisture content of Sirjan sample would be about 24%. But the filtration time is too long and vacuum belt filter cannot be used in industrial scale. Adding about 40 g/ton of flocculant would decrease the filtration time by about 30% and make the vacuum belt filter appropriate for dewatering of this sample. For Zarand tailing sample, the vacuum filtration would produce a wet cake by about 31% moisture content. Filtration time is too long and adding flocculant would not improve the results very much. So pressure filtration must be used for dewatering of this sample. The results of laboratory tests show that using pressure filter would reduce the cake moisture content to 21%. The filtration time is logical, so this process can be used for Zarand tailing dewatering.

Iron ore concentrate contains different mineral phases viz. hematite, magnetite, goethite, kaolinite, and gibbsite. Presence of some of these phases like goethite, kaolinite, and gibbsite contribute to the loss on ignition (LOI) content of the sample. Iron ore fines (pellet feed) are pelletized for utilization in DRI & BF processes. In the present pelletization technology i.e., straight grate and grate kiln processes, the LOI in the ore should be within the range of 2.0-2.5%. LOI content in the iron ore concentrate is found to be more than 4% after beneficiation of low-grade iron ore. It is therefore difficult to produce good quality pellet because of high LOI content. The LOI content of the sample is a detrimental factor in the pellet making. For effective pelletization, the LOI content in iron ore fines needs to be reduced before pelletization. It can be reduced by fluidized bed roasting. The objective of present work is to understand the kinetics of removal of LOI from iron ore fines. The effects of bed depth, temperature, and residence time on reduction of LOI content in iron ore fines were studied using muffle furnace. The process of roasting was carried out at four different temperatures varying from 400 to 950 °C with a variable residence time of 30, 45, 60 & 75 minutes and at bed depths of 16, 32, 48 & 64 mm. In all instance of experiments carried out, one of the parameters was kept constant. It was observed that at 850 °C and 30 minutes of residence time, there was sufficient removal of LOI in static bed condition even at a high bed depth of 64 mm. "The effect of various polymers, including: anionic carboxymethyl cellulose (CMC), polystyrene sulfonate (PSS), humic acids (HA) and non-ionic hydroxypropyl cellulose, on the wettability of Athabasca bitumen was evaluated through dynamic contact angle measurements using the captive bubble technique. The tests were carried out as a function of pH at a constant ionic strength (0.01 mol/L sodium chloride). The evolution of the three-phase contact angle between the solution, bitumen and an air bubble was followed as a function of time over a period of ~6 minutes. The contact angle data were modelled using a first-order kinetic equation. The results were analyzed in terms of the initial contact angle, the evolution rate constant, and the steady-state contact angle value. In the case of anionic polymers, a pronounced decrease in the initial contact angle value was observed at pH 3. Under acidic conditions, there was no significant effect of CMC observed on the steady-state contact angle value but PSS and HA significantly decreased the steady-state contact angle value. At pH 8.5. the anionic polymers did not affect the wettability of the bitumen surface but they significantly decreased the contact angle evolution rate. These results suggested that CMC is not capable of permanently lowering the hydrophobicity of bitumen, and the polymer only slowed down the evolution of the contact angle to the steady-state value. The results also showed that polystyrene sulfonate and humic acids were capable of making bitumen hydrophilic but only under acidic conditions. Only hydroxypropyl cellulose (HPC) produced a large decrease in the steady-state contact angle under alkaline conditions (pH 8.5). The kinetics of contact angle evolution in the presence of HPC was also drastically lowered. The results were discussed in terms of the chemical composition of the polymers and their different affinities towards the bitumen surface."

"At the regrind or secondary grinding stages of metal ores, usually the concern about the energy efficiency is extremely important. In general, the specific energy consumption at this stage is higher than in the primary stages of grinding. In addition, it has been observed a tendency of finer grinding in the new projects of metallic ores, due to the finer mineral liberation, which leads to an increasing capital and operational costs. In Brazil, during the last 10 years, regrind P80 sizes of approximately 40 to 20 ?m have been necessary in all new iron and copper plants. The use of conventional ball mills, adequate for primary grinding, can result in low energy efficiency with products below a P80 of 50 ?m. This paper presents an overview of the regrind circuits in Brazil that operate with vertical mills and the results of industrial surveys at selected vertical mill circuits. Where possible, comparison is made between the plant results and the design criteria and laboratory regrind tests used for the mill sizing."

Geopolymers are novel engineering materials with the potential to play a highly significant role in the transformation of the construction materials and building products industry in the push to-wards sustainable development. These materials are formed by activation of industrial aluminosilicate waste materials such as coal ash or blast furnace slag with alkaline solutions. Some mineral waste can also be used, either as fillers or as reactive components. The use of waste-based geopolymers results in significant (up to 90%) reduction in carbon dioxide emissions when used in cement replacement applications. In addition to the formation of conventional pre-cast products, these high performance mineral binders are ideally suited to use in the conversion or encapsulation of toxic waste, including radioactive waste, due to their chemical stability and resistance to acid attack. It is the aim of this paper to review recent developments on the science underpinning this ?green? technology, and to discuss the technical and commercial drivers governing the large-scale adoption of the technology. Some of the recent fundamental breakthroughs in the study of geopolymer technology at the University of Melbourne will be presented. Despite the complexity of this reactive sol-id-gel system, progress has been made in the development of a thermochemical reaction kinetic model that has been validated using both calorimetric data and synchrotron kinetic data. Geopolymerization is potentially a disruptive technology, so that it is normal to expect strong resistance from established companies in the construction materials industry. It is increasingly necessary that waste generating industries such as mining collaborate with industries such as construction that could utilize this waste. The world?s first full scale geopolymer plant utilizing waste and re-cycled material has been commissioned recently in Melbourne, Australia, so progress on commercialization will also be presented. The authors frequently present keynote lectures on geopolymer science and technology at materials science, ceramics and construction materials conferences. However, this interdisciplinary technology that is still in its infancy, deserves more attention in the mineral processing and mining industry in view of its potential use in the mining industry, and also in view of the importance of mineral processing techniques in recent advances in geopolymers.

"Multistage model designed and used for more detailed description of floatation process. The study develops a new model of flotation kinetics description. It defines flotation as process that consists of several stages: air bubbles and particles are separate, air bubbles and particles form a raising aggregate, aggregate raises to froth layer. This description significantly differs from commonly used model, which is much simplified. The multistage model gives an in-depth description and considers different aspects of flotation. Experimental approval of the new model resulted in its accuracy.The model is to be used for description of all flotation processes’ kinetics of wastewater treatment. It helps in accurate designing of flotation treatment plants and may be used for further research of flotation process. Columnar flotation installation was designed by using multistage model. This installation consists of new tubular aerators with special ejectors, froth pressing system as well as unit of thin-layering lighting to catch microflotocomplex “particle – bubble”. Usage of tubular aerators allowed to aerate the overall volume of pulp. Due to use of special ejectors with longer mixing camera we state higher volume of small-sized floto-active bubbles. Use of multistage model allowed to optimize and get higher technological results of potash salts enrichment. Tests were conducted on centrifuges-floatation installation system. Meanwhile, froth concentrate contained mainly thin hydrophobic particles sized circa 0,1 mm. As a result we set that during floatation cleaning process of froth concentrate 95-98% of chloride potassium (KCI) is derived from foam.The final product satisfies production quality. Columnar floatation installation productivity was 17 – 21 m3/m2h, which is a high technological result. Columnar floatation installation is one of the best examples of concentrating equipment using nearly all technological indices."

The present investigation aims to develop and distinguish mineral specific reagents with two functional groups for use in flotation of calcium containing minerals. For this purpose, a series of dicarboxylate-based surfactants with varying length between the carboxylate groups (one, two or three methylene groups) were synthesized. As reference, a surfactant with the same alkyl chain length but with only one carboxylate group in the polar part was synthesized. The adsorption behavior of these new reagents on pure apatite and calcite mineral surfaces was studied using Hallimond tube flotation, FTIR and ? potential measurements. The relation between the adsorption behavior of a given surfactant on a specific mineral surface and its molecular structure over a range of concentration and pH values, as well as the region of maximum recovery were established. It was found that one of the reagents, with a specific distance between the carboxylate groups, was much more selective for a particular mineral surface than the other homologues synthesized. This selective adsorption of a given surfactant to a particular mineral surface relative to other mineral surfaces as evidenced in flotation studies is substantiated by ? potential and infra-red spectroscopy data.

Gold thiosulfate complex is difference with gold cyanide complex, which is easily adsorbed on activated carbon while gold thiosulfate complex cannot be satisfactorily recovered by activated car-bon. However, Gold thiosulfate could be recovered by activated carbon if cyanide is added into the thiosulfate solution. To avoid the cyanide solution, this paper will review several possible processes to recover the gold from thiosuldate solution: such as the cementation with metals, ion exchange resin and solvent extraction. The gold cementation with the powders of zinc, copper, iron and aluminium will be discussed. The advantage and disadvantage of each are compared. The consumption of thiosulfate and copper and feasibility of solution recycling will be discussed. The gold recovery by some ion exchange resins will be suggested. The processing conditions, its applications and the resin elution methods will be presented. The gold recovery by using solvent ex-traction will be reviewed. The processing conditions of solvent extraction process are discussed and compared.

"In order to meet the growing demand for non-Chinese rare earth suppliers many new rare earth (RE) mineral deposits are currently under development, however these deposits typically include many minerals for which there is little processing information available. One of these deposits is the Nechalacho deposit located in the North West Territories of Canada. This deposit contains multiple RE minerals including bastnäsite, zircon, fergusonite, allanite and monazite. The work presented here investigates the use of different classes of flotation collectors (carboxylic acids, hydroxamic acids, phosphoric acids) typically used in RE mineral flotation to float the Nechalacho ore directly. Flotation tests are also conducted as the final step in a beneficiation process incorporating centrifugal gravity concentration and magnetic separation. This combination of centrifugal gravity concentration and magnetic separation rejects low specific gravity gangue minerals such as K-feldspar and plagioclase and concentrates high specific gravity minerals such as magnetite and hematite. The removal of low specific gravity gangue helps to improve flotation and the removal of ferromagnetic iron oxides is important prior to flotation using certain chelating collectors."

The aim of this research is to extract zinc from complex lead and zinc ore containing carbo- silicate lead and zinc minerals using sulphuric acid. Samples, taken from Dareh Zanjireh mine located in central of Iran, were subjected to leaching tests after calcination process. Experiments were planed according to the Taguchi statistical method. The calcinated samples contain 13.98% zinc and the constituting minerals being dolomite and zincate. Various parameters such as speed of mixing, temperature, time, solid to liquid ratio and pH were studied. A solid to liquid ratio of 1:6 gr/mL at 60°C and 800 rpm speed of mixing for 30 minutes resulted in a product with 85.96% zinc recoveries.

As a result of the main processes of the limestone treatment ? sawing, buffing and polishing, a technological waste is usually obtained. These final tailings consist of a water suspension with highly variable solid phase content and granulometric composition. Since the waste is conducted to a tailing pool or another place, this leads to environment pollution. In this work the slurry waste generated during the limestone processing in a Bulgarian limestone manufacturing company was characterized. The chemical composition, particle size distribution, solid phase content, whiteness, yellowness, abrasion, specific surface and density were determined. The possibility of obtaining building/construction materials from limestone processing waste was studied in a laboratory scale. The technological tests included thickening, filtration and drying of waste products. Continuous operation laboratory thickener was used. Coagulant Accepta® 8302 (aluminum sulphate solution) and anionic flocculant Magnafloc® 155 were found to be the most effective in the sedimentation of the products. Filtration tests were performed using a laboratory pressure filter. Drying tests were carried out in laboratory facilities using the direct heating method. On the basis of the laboratory results a technology for limestone treatment waste was developed. A production line for building materials from limestone slurry was set up. As a result the manufacturing company has a possibility to use circulating water.

As one of the key inorganic chemical industries, the chromate chemical industry has spawned extensively public concerns due to the resulted environmental pollution. The cleaner production technology for chromium compounds bases on sub-molten salt medium developed by the Institute of Process Engineering, Chinese Academy of Sciences has greatly decreased the reaction temperature and energy consumption, significantly in-creased the utilization ratio of the chromium element, and successfully achieved the comprehensive utilization of chromite resources and zero emission of chromium-containing residue. The separation process of production is the most important components in the cleaner technology. In this work, we studied two parts: the first is the removal of SiO2, Al3+ from the system and the recycling utilization of alkali metal medium through adding Ca(OH)2 and CaO; the second is to get more pure K2CrO4 crystalloid and remove K2CO3 from KOH solution through evaporation to prepare raw material for manufacturing Cr2O3 and get 50%(wt) KOH. The results obtained show that Ca(OH)2 can remove Al3+ more than CaO and has lower caustic ratio than CaO when they were added 110% of theoretic quantity. The optimal pure K2CrO4(96%) can be gained at 45 Celsius degree in 30% KOH solution and K2CO3 in 50% KOH solution could be decreased to 3.5%(wt) at 40 Celsius degree. And then K2CO3 can be causticized with adding Ca(OH)2 to recycle potassium alkali. The impure material can be re-moved and suitable raw material for manufacturing Cr2O3 can be gotten and reaction medium can be also recycled in this process technology, realizing cleaner production effectively.

In this study, the effect of morphological properties such as shape factors and roughness of the glass beads on their flotation efficiency were determined using image analysis and profilometer methods. There is a considerable correlation between the shape factors, surface roughness and flotation behavior of the glass sample. These results indicate that as the particle shape is away from roundness and smoothness, it acquires more hydrophobicity.

High grade ore deposits in the world are fast depleting and the valuables in the low-grade ores are finely disseminated. The feed grade to flotation circuit is also declining. Attainment of suitable grind is preferred, which inevitably creates more fines of the gangue minerals to interfere with the flotation process because of the undue competition between the fines and the valuables for the collector ion adsorption. Besides the use of polymeric or long chain hydrocarbon depressants for the gangue mineral, microbial induced flotation also has potential to float minerals selectively. Thiobacillus ferroxidans and Thiobacillus thiooxidans adhere on the minerals to modify its surface properties and affect the minerals flotation acting as depressants. Hindustan Zinc has conducted laboratory studies to understand the adhesion of microorganism on the mineral surfaces and its impact on the selective flotation. The experiments were further designed to reduce consumption of depressing reagents for graphitic carbon, pyrite, and galena. Preliminary studies reveal that desired quality of concentrate can be achieved with reasonable recovery. "Annual world zinc consumption is as high as nearly 14 millions of tonnes. Approximately 50% share of zinc is used for corrosion protection in processes of continuous galvanization and the hot dip processes. In the latter, two zinc containing residues are produced: zinc ash and hard zinc, which constitute around 10% each. Paper concerns the method of possible separation of metallic zinc from the non-metallic zinc compounds from the zinc ashes – the waste product of hot dip galvanization process. The investigative programme covered the comminution tests of the feed (zinc ash) in selected crushers: jaw crusher, roller crusher and impactor. Results of investigations show that application of individual crushing device results in various breakage of the feed sample. Impact force caused the highest increase in finest particles size fractions of the product, while metallic and non-metallic fractions were comminuted differently. The compression force, in turn, caused the selective comminution, i.e. the breakage of metallic zinc was observed in a higher degree. The presented approach appears to be an economical supplementary method of initial recovery of metallic zinc from metallurgical zinc waste. For the high demands for the zinc in the world and the need of corrosion protection, the method presented in the paper helps in more effective zinc recovery and environmental protection.INTRODUCTION AND METHODOLOGY World production of metallic zinc during last decade shows a slight increase and in recent years its consumptions reach 14 millions of tonnes. Figure 1 shows world production of zinc in the time period 2009 – 2016. In the leaching of gold in aqueous cyanide solutions the rate of gold leaching may be decreased by the passivation of the gold, that may however be prevented or reversed in the presence of lead species in solution. In the present study potentiostatic, potentiodyanamic and XPS (X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy) analysis were used to further clarify the action of lead ions on the anodic activity of gold in alkaline cyanide solutions. It was found that lead increased the gold dissolution rate as it deposited on the gold surface at potentials more positive than its reversible Nernst potential for bulk metal deposition, i.e. by underpotential deposition mechanism, but that it decreased gold activity if present as bulk plated lead on the gold.
