Adsorption of sodium dodecylsulfonate (SDS) and dodecylaminium hydrochloride (DAH) on Buller seam coal, New Zealand, have been studied. Both surfactants adsorb effectively on the coal below pH 8, and the adsorption isotherms established at pH 4 are essentially the same at lower concentrations. These findings suggest that the adsorption of these two ionic surfactants on coal is controlled by a hydrophobic bonding mechanism. However, the results of calorimetric studies suggest that coulombic attraction also plays a part in the adsorption mechanisms. It has also been found that both the SDS and DAH adsorbed in the first monolayer are not removed by lowering the surfactant concentrations in the bulk solution.

Central Water Integration Project (CWIP) Segment 5-1 is the most critical segment of a regional water supply project that transfers groundwater from Burleson County to northern San Antonio, replacing over 20% of that City’s water supply with a new source. CWIP Segment 5-1 included three tunnel reaches totaling 10,350-ft and 5 shafts that were constructed inside the City in an area known to contain large karst features. This paper describes site work used to investigate the alignment for karst features, manage potential environmental impacts, develop the contract package required for mitigation and the means and methods used to mitigate the large karst features that were encountered.

A proactive design and construct approach was used to remediate the Warm Springs Ponds Complex near Anaconda, Montana under "Superfund". The pond complex is used for treatment/settlement of heavy metals and is a repository for 19,000,000 cubic yards of tailings, precipitates and associated sediments. Remediation has resulted in treatment/settling capacity for flows up to the 100-year flood (3,300 cfs); expansion from 5 to 11 ponds in series requiring 12.5 miles of new or improved embankments with associated hydraulic structures; flood protection for the 0.5 Probable Maximum -Flood (PMF) (70,000 cfs); and closure of exposed tailings along with aquatic and terrestrial habitat enhancement.

The advent of Nuclear Energy has caused a phenomenal growth in the uranium mining industry. To keep abreast of this surge the mining industry has located many ore bodies, determined the best types of mining adaptable to this particular type of ore and developed a highly specialized type of operation. But, has the mining industry gone far enough in the planning? Has ?built-in? safety been included in the efficient methods of operation? Preplanning safety in the mining industry, as in all industries, takes engineering and ingenuity combined with the experience and cooperation of all concerned. A system of mining can be planned on a map and it will look good. However, when the actual mining takes place, conditions may be such that deviations from the original plans may be required because of excessive water faults or other conditions encountered. With safety we may also be required to change, to conform to the characteristics of a particular operation. People in the mining industry are well aware that loose back has killed miners each year. This condition occurred in practically all types of mines. The condition is not new to us. It is also known that explosives, haulage, machinery and conditions common to all types of mining have taken a heavy toll of human life in mining. In addition to these hazards in the uranium mines, the hazard of radon is also present, Radon is a radioactive gas liberated from ores containing radium. This gas is released into the active workings by the blasting or breaking up of the ore. Sometimes it is caused by radium contaminated water seepage from abandoned workings or from the ore body itself. Until the action of this gas on the human was known, many miners were affected. Un- less adequate precuations are taken to protect the people in these mines,, they may be exposed to this hazard, Health researchers made a study of this substance to determine how it would affect the health of the men, They also studied men who had worked in previous years, in mines known to have contained radioactive materials. All of this research contributed to the present knowledge of radon and its daughter products. It is not flammable nor explosive, but, if allowed to enter the body through the respiratory organs it can cause serious damage. Mines have been operated in the past and are still being operated, which were known to contain explosive and noxious gases, indicating that this problem can be controlled. Several states have instituted laws that make it mandatory to provide adequate ventilation and use of monitoring devices to limit radon and its daughter products to a maximum of 300 micro-microcuries per liter of air. This is considered a safe limit for sustained periods of human exposure. While the findings of research do not prove conclusively that the inhalation of excessive radon or its daugher products cause lung cancer, indications point to this as a possibility, particularly radium A and radium C1 of the daughter products. The threshold limits set by law in most uranium producing states are believed to be safe. In a few years, when tests and data now in the process of collection by interested state officials and laboratories is complete, these limits may be found to be ready for revision. Studies such as these take time. At present, the limits that are used are based upon estimates. The permissible limits of exposure to radon and daughter products include a large safety factor. It is considered that a good supply of fresh air delivered to the working places, adequate dust control, the sealing of unused or abandoned workings, the removal of mine water which is generally contaminated and a safe waiting period after blasting, will hold to a minimum the dangers from this source. There are, of course, problems accompanying each of these procedures. For example, the ventilating of untimbered raises and bringing fresh, uncontaminated air to the working places may be a problem. However, a good mining man can solve these problems as they apply in each particular operation. From the information available at the present time, the daughter products containing polonium and emitting alpha radiation, may be a health hazard. Fortunately, the half life of most of the daughter products is short, however, radium D has a half life of 22 years and presents a problem of contamination in the storage of old tailings. So we can see that failure to comply with the accepted good mining practices may have harmful effects on the health of miners. It is gratifying to note the interest in this potential hazard by the officials in the uranium ore producing states, who are making extensive studies and keeping records of the men who work in this type of mining. This all provide information necessary for preplanning safety. By contrast, little has been accomplished to control the injuries and deaths from some other factors connected with most underground mining operations. This paper presents the use of the Jaggi-Freedman model for deriving composite environmental sustainability indicators at the mine level (i.e. indicators which focus on both the environmental and economic dimension of the sustainable development) using environmental, economic and/or integrated indicators (i.e. indicators which inter-relate two dimensions of sustainability). The derivation of composite environmental sustainability indicators by means of the Jaggi-Freedman model concerns the South-Field lignite mine of Public Power Corporation (PPC) in Western Macedonia. In the light of the results of the present paper it is evident that the performance of South-Field mine, during 1986-1990, was the exclusive domain of large production yearly activities. The considerably low indicators? scores during the 1986-1987 period are attributed to the increased environmental impacts and electrical energy consumed. The merit of this framework is that it can be used both internally, for benchmarking purposes and externally, for sustainability reporting.

Introduction Placer deposits account for one-half to two-thirds of the total gold produced worldwide. As many as 311 t (10 million oz) have been produced from some major districts. Several others are credited with 155 t (5 million oz). All the major districts and many lesser ones have similar characteristics. Consideration of these characteristics offers insight into the origin of gold in the deposit. Knowing the gold deposit's geologic history leads to useful conclusions in exploring for placer deposits and for deposits in consolidated areas. Placer Deposit Characteristics Table 1 lists 17 placer gold districts around the world and their characteristics. These include type and age of, mineralized source rocks, associated intrusive rocks, and age of intermediate sedimentary cycles. Although quartzite or sandstone occurs in the bedrock sequence in four of the 17 districts, slates, phyllites, or schists are present in all of the districts. Additionally, in all but three, the slates are pre-Mesozoic. And, in six of the remaining 14, the slates are Precambrian. Rocks intrusive into the slates are all of intermediate to acidic composition and are emplaced as stocks, dikes, or sills, rather than being batholithic in proportions. Intermediate interceptors have not been recognized in only three of the 17 districts. Data from China and Mongolia are inconclusive as to this characteristic. Black Shale Gold Higher than average gold values are found in modern sedimentary rocks in coarse granulites, conglomerates, sandstones, and gray-wackes. Not so predictably, higher than average gold values also occur in black shales and carbonaceous argillities. Li and Shokena (1974) found that, in the Proterozoic sedimentary and equivalent metamorphic rocks of the Enisei Ridge, carbonaceous and graphitic phyllites and schists were particularly enriched in gold. Korotayeva and Polikarpochkin (1969) reported gold content in organic rocks to be enriched up to 15 times more than the organic free shales and siltstones of the Nerchinsk Zavod region of eastern Transbaikal. Black shales can be gold interceptors as are rocks of the granulite facies. Gold occurs in shales in particulate, free form, in pyrite, adsorbed on clays, and precipitated on carbon. In copper-bearing shales of Poland's Fore-Sudetic monocline, Kucha (1973) reported gold present in organic compounds as well as in silver bearing minerals. Anoshin (1969) found a strong correlation between gold and the pelitic fraction of sediments in certain rocks of the Atlantic Ocean basin. Heavy metal absorption on clays results in agglomeration to the extent that the particles settle with the heavy mineral fraction in enriched strata. Piper and Graef (1974) think that gold in sediments on the flank of the East Pacific rise is of lithogenic origin. Crockett (1973), however, proposed a volcanogenic exhalative origin. A strong correlation between gold and volcanic activity exists in rocks of the Canadian Shield where tuffaceous sediments and porphyries are more frequently enriched in gold than rocks with no volcanic components. Volcanic rocks of intermediate to acidic composition are considered here to be the primary source of gold in black shales. Gold is concentrated in shales as detrital free grains with diameters less than 50 µm (270 mesh), as precipitates, and in pyrite or other sulfide minerals. This is the first step in the history of gold placer deposits. Grain Size Modification Gold, as free grains with diameters less than 50 µm (270 mesh), is too light to be concentrated hydraulically into placer deposits. Some process has increased the average size of the gold grains. Mobilization during regional metamorphism converts most of the gold into particulate grains or entrains it in microfractures in the sulfide minerals. With moderate folding, small, white, vitreous quartz veins develop. As deformation continues, larger, more conspicuous quartz veins are formed. Barite (BaS04) is an industrial mineral with hundreds of uses. It is primarily used as a weighting agent in drilling fluids. This use comprised approximately 97% of U.S. barite consumption in 1981. Barite is found in three types of deposits: bedded, residual, and vein. Bedded deposits, because of their relatively large tonnage, have been the principle target of explorationists. Increased demand for barite in the mid to late seventies prompted many companies to significantly expand their efforts in barite exploration. Barite exploration techniques currently range from outcrop walking and geochemical exploration to gravity and seismic surveys.

The velocity of detonation (VOD) is a significant property considered when rating an explosive, and it is quantified as a confined or unconfined velocity. The confined velocity is more significant as explosives are usually used under a definite degree of confinement. This study evaluates the stepwise increment of the air-deck volume from 10 to 30 percent, and its effect on the VOD. The VOD estimation in the 172-mm-diameter explosive column was conducted using the Dáutriche technique. The air-deck volume increment has an attenuation effect on the steady-state VOD, and detonation failure is high at 30 percent air-deck volume. This attenuation effect is directly linked to the explosive’s rating and efficacy. The air-decking approach in this study is different from conventional air-decking techniques in that it does not employ the fixed blasthole parameters, air-deck volume and specific VOD.

"Most engineers are bright, hard-working, reliable, and prefer to avoid conflict. An engineering curriculum tends to self-select these characteristics. By most standards, you would expect workers exhibiting these traits to require minimal supervision. But is this true? Is this how most current engineering managers lead? Looking at some current theories on leadership combined with personal anecdotes, this presentation will look at some common misconceptions about leading engineers. INTRODUCTION Engineers are different. There, I said it. From cartoons to movies to television shows and more, there is a reason stereotypes of engineers resonate. Yes, you can find a lot individual variation among specific engineers that you may know, but they do not detract from some of the overarching commonalities that engineers are known for. CLASH OF CULTURES What distinguishes a professional? Raelin (1985), in his book Clash of Cultures, describes professionals as having superior intellectual training, maintaining their own standards of excellence, and being supported by associations that maintain the quality of the profession. Engineers obviously fit all three of these ideas: an engineering degree is still regarded as one of the most difficult to attain; we maintain our own standards both through peer-review and in academia through ABET accreditation; and through professional associations like SME to promote the discipline and foster technical growth. Six characteristics representing professional status are described by Raelin (1985, p. 9): Expertise—prolonged specialized training in a body of abstract knowledge. Autonomy—the freedom to choose the means to solving a problem. Commitment—Primary interest is in pursuing the practice of one’s own chosen specialty. Identification—identifying with the profession and with fellow professionals, both through formal associations and through peers external to the organization. Ethics—providing service without concern for oneself or without becoming emotionally involved with the client. Standards—committed to help in policing the conduct of fellow professionals. Engineers are smart—in the vast majority of cases they are hired specifically for their expertise. At a typical mine the ventilation engineer knows more about mine ventilation than anyone else on site; the same is true for the rock mechanics engineer, the explosives engineer, the planning engineer who uses sophisticated computer software—each is the expert for their particular area at the mine, that is why they have that responsibility. This can present a dilemma for the manager for each (sometimes all) of these engineers. The manager needs to keep everyone on task and focused on the objectives of the organization. Because they have reached their position by following the norms and expectations of the organization, managers tend to have a certain amount of loyalty to that organization. Engineers, on the other hand, tend to have mixed loyalties, having as much loyalty and affinity for their profession as they do for the particular company they happen to be working for at any given time. This dynamic can often lead to power struggles between the managers, based on their positional authority in the organization, and the engineers, based on their specialized knowledge (Camm, 2013)."

The era of low-seam mining with continuous haulage has been here for quite some time. Typical tonnages in companies such as Terry Glenn Coal are currently averaging 405 tonnes per shift in .8m coal. JoAnn Coal has averaged 453.6 tonnes per shift in .775m to .825m coal for the past four years. John Chaney of Chaney Coal has averaged 297 tonnes per shift in .6m to .65m coal. There are many other mines that are experiencing similar success and with maintenance costs that are averaging $.10 to $.40 per tonne. These figures have been documented and can be verified by the operators.

1. INTRODUCTION Empirical methods have always been important in tunneling in contrast to many other branches of engineering. Beginning in the late 19th century, when engineering entered the phase of formal modeling, this dichotomy could be seen to emerge even in the work of individuals. Culmann (1), Ritter (2) Kommerell (3) and others simultaneously were developing analytical approaches to bridge and building design and empirical approaches to tunnel design. The dichotomy remains. Empirical or simple analytical methods are used at most in the preliminary design of bridges and buildings, while they are used in all phases of tunnel design and construction. In fact, the past decade has seen a resurgence of interest in empirical methods, and with it discussion and controversy. This discussion has centered on the suitability of various methods. In some applications identical results are obtained with differing methods and in some cases radically different ones. On certain occasions the discussion has focused more on the methodological rather than empirical by taking issue with the appropriateness of particular parameters or the structure of some methods. This paper attempts to establish a basis for judging the suitability of empirical methods in tunnel design, and their applicability to particular cases. The paper makes no claim of exhaustiveness, and instead emphasizes basic requirements for application. Various methods are reviewed against this background. A detailed comparison of empirical methods and a description of their concept and background is now being prepared (4). Specifically the paper first defines empirical methods, and their purpose (Section 2), describes their structure (Section 3), and focuses on the basic requirements each must satisfy (Section 4). Caterpillar has led the way for sound reduction in off highway trucks (OHT) used for mining. In 2000 Caterpillar introduced the 793CXQ sound reduction OHT (Figure 4) to meet local noise level demands in the Hunter Valley near Sydney, Australia. The sound level of the mining equipment in the Hunter Valley is being reduced to pre-serve the quality of life for the residents of the area. To meet the levels established required a major redesign of the 793C, as a result the sound power level was reduced by 9 dB (A), which is a less than 1/8the original sound level.

The Bureau of Mines, together with Foster Miller Inc., has developed a compact, high pressure scrubber system for continuous miners. Powered by water energy alone, it can move up to 1.4 m3/s (3,000 cfm) of air and scrub a significant amount of the dust in the air. Full- scale model and underground trials showed excellent performance. Operated at 8.3 x 10[3] kPa (1,200 psi) and 38 L/m (10 gpm), the scrubber has reduced operator and return dust concentrations by more than 50 pct. This paper describes the full-scale model development, system fabrication and underground evaluations of this novel and inexpensive scrubber.

Joy Mining Machinery has developed a new generation of ultra-heavy shields for Anglo Coal Australia?s Moranbah North Mine in the Bowen Basin region of Queensland. These are the largest two-leg longwall shields yet produced by Joy. The longwall at Moranbah North posed a number of challenges, among them a thick, inclined, sometimes undulating seam with increasing depths. The result of this was the need for larger, heavier, more powerful roof supports. Knowing that future longwalls would be going deeper, mine management determined that shield yield ratings of at least 1,750 t (1,930 st) was what would be required.

In this paper I will attempt to present an up to date review of the type of exploration' that has previously been carried out in Alaska, discuss some of the more significant past producers and recent discoveries, and suggest some approaches to future exploration. Hopefully this information may be of some use to those parties tempting to evaluate Alaska's non ferrous, non placer, metal potential or contemplating initiation of exploration in the state. II. SUMMARY AND CONCLUSIONS Past production of non ferrous metals from lode deposits in Alaska has been meager considering the size of the state. Since there have been no major lode mines operative in Alaska since World War II, and since logistical conditions vary throughout the state, it is not possible to generalize with respect to mining costs in Alaska as compared to those in other areas. There seems to be little question, however, that a major deposit situated in a reasonably favorable location' could be profitably operating at present. Host of the known metal prospects in Alaska were discovered by early gold prospectors prior to World War I. From World War I through World War II exploration consisted chiefly of surface prospecting by prospectors on a diminished scale, as compared to the early gold rush days, drilling of some prospects by the U.S.B.M,, and occasional mine or prospect evaluations by mining companies. From the end of World War II to the present time, there has been a generally steady increase in exploration by mining companies consisting chiefly of prospect and district evaluations, large scale aerial reconnaissance programs in search of color anomalies, and regional drainage geochemical surveys. The post World War II increase in mining company exploration has not been matched by an increase in conventional surface prospecting.

Operators of underground coal mine shuttle cars are exposed to numerous hazards including noise, dust and musculoskeletal trauma. The repetitive nature of shuttle car operation leads to fatigue-related incidents and soft tissue injuries. The poor visibility conditions, and dust and noise increase the occupational hazards to the operator, as well to other miners. To reduce the risks for all miners, towards providing a safer working environment for all workers, the introduction of autonomous shuttle cars is essential. This paper introduces a project to demonstrate the feasibility of incorporating autonomous shuttle cars in the underground coal mining cycle. The autonomous shuttle car will be able to localize itself, to map its surroundings and to navigate in an underground GPS-denied environment. It will also navigate efficiently by fusing different on-board sensor modalities, autonomously planning the optimum path and traversing around the mine while avoiding collisions with humans and other static and dynamic obstacles. This will be achieved by exploring and testing different state-of-the-art techniques and off-the-shelf components, and integrating them into existing equipment, i.e., retrofitting an actual shuttle car. Moreover, a modified mining system will be demonstrated which will incorporate the autonomous shuttle car, capable of making real-time decisions, into the mining cycle. The system will regulate the interactions between the autonomous machinery and the human dynamic, with emphasis given to the safety of the workers, and enable the real-time, remote supervision of the mining process. The focus will be on coal mines, where the room and pillar mining method is used. INTRODUCTION The growing demand for mineral supplies combined with the steady decline in the available surface reserves has driven the mining industry to mine deeper underground deposits. These deposits are difficult to access, and the environment may be hazardous to mine personnel (e.g., increased heat, difficult ventilation conditions, etc.). Moreover, current mining methods expose the miners to numerous occupational hazards such as working in the proximity of heavy mining equipment, possible roof falls, as well as noise and dust. In recent decades, the utilization of autonomous machines has evolved in the mining industry to provide increased health and safety to mine personnel and reduce their exposure to adverse conditions. Automation aims to remove the workers from the hazardous conditions which may be present in an active mining area and place them to a more comfortable and safer environment at a distance from the active mining face. Examples of incorporation of autonomous machinery in the mining industry include the fleet of more than 100 autonomous mine trucks that are employed at the Rio Tinto’s iron ore mines in Western Australia for material haulage. There are also semi-autonomous, teleoperated LHD machines employed at several mines around the world (e.g., Sweden, USA, China). However, the operation of the autonomous machinery in these cases is either partial (semi-autonomous, teleoperated vehicles) and of small-scale or occurs at surface mines where GPS significantly facilitates the autonomous navigation of them.

INTRODUCTION The Nuclear Energy Agency plays an active role in promoting international cooperation among its member countries in the field of nuclear energy. In addition to various other functions, it plays a major role in encouraging harmonisation of government regulatory policies and practices, promoting exchange of information, and coordination of research and development in the field of radiological health and safety associated with nuclear fuel cycle activities. The work of the Agency is carried out through a number of specialised standing committees. In particular, the Committee on Radiation Protection and Public Health (CRPPH) is responsible for the Agency's activities concerned with radiological protection and related environmental problems. Its functions include review and discussion of national radiation protection policies and practices, review of developments in radiological protection, interpretation of ICRP recommendations and the study of the means of their translation into practical applications, including the establishment of radiological protection standards. Its functions also include the preparation of technical studies and reviews on specific problems requiring attention, and coordination of further research and development at the international level. Major attention is presently being given to the NEA programme of work on problems associated with radiation protection and environmental impact of nuclear fuel cycle activities, with particular attention to the front-end (uranium mining and milling) and the back-end (waste management) of the fuel cycle. In this context, the increasing attention that has been given in several countries to the problems associated with the exposure of man to radon, thoron and their daughters, and with their dosimetry and measurement, were readily appreciated by NEA, which began an active programme of work in this field in 1976. Because of the detrimental health effects,as demonstrated by epidemiological studies,caused by prolonged exposure to excessive levels of shortlived daughters of radon, particularly in poorly ventilated underground mines, the bulk of attention and needed effort has been focussed on radon and radon daughters in uranium mining. In certain countries some concern has been expressed also about the significant levels of exposure experienced by workers in non-uranium mines,and members of the public who live in particular areas or in dwellings built with particular materials which produce higher than average levels of radon and radon daughters. However, at the time of the first NEA involvement in this field it was considered that one of the most urgent problems to be solved was that of ensuring adequate personal dosimetry for uranium miners. Consequently, the NEA was urged to organise a specialist meeting on personal dosimetry and area monitoring for radon and radon daughters to provide an international forum for exchanging information and reviewing problems in this field. The meeting was held in Elliot Lake, Canada, in October 1976. A second specialist meeting, on the same subject, was held in Paris, in November 1978, to review further developments in this area. These meetings demonstrated that the overall problem associated with exposure to radon and radon daughters had many facets, each of which in recent years has been the subject of considerable attention in many countries for different reasons. It emerged from the meetings that further work was required on a variety of issues in two main areas: 1) dosimetry 2) metrology and monitoring. Conclusions and recommendations which emerged from the two NEA specialist meetings were discussed by the CRPPH. As a consequence the Committee approved, in September 1979, a detailed programme of work in the area of dosimetry and monitoring of radon, thoron and their daughters, and approved the setting up of an international Group of Experts on Radon Dosimetry and Monitoring to undertake the work. The work has been divided into two phases - phase I, on dosimetric aspects, and phase II, on metrology and monitoring aspects. The terms of reference of the work are given in Appendix 1. A list of national representatives on the Group of Experts on Radon Dosimetry and Monitoring is given in Appendix 2; many of these persons are participating here in the Conference. The Group of Experts met for the first time in April 1980 and met again in September 1981. The work of phase I is nearing completion and a report is expected to be submitted soon to the CRPPH for its consideration. Three technical papers providing interim information on the study appear elsewhere in the proceedings of this Conference. The papers cover the three principle areas examined in the study so far: 1) dosimetric aspects 2) review of the "working level" 3) review of objectives and requirements for measurement and monitoring of radon, thoron and daughters. The authors, their affiliations, and the titles of these papers are listed in Appendix 3. A brief overview follows giving the principal results.

The San Manuel Oxide Pit is located within the subsidence boundaries of Magma Copper Company's block caving operation. Ground conditions offer a constant blasting challenge and vary from hard, competent crystalline rock to widely spaced fracturing in a sedimentary conglomerate. A successful drilling and blasting program has undergone several changes since mining commenced in 1985 and continues to be developed. The leaching behavior of rhenium in ammonium iodide solutions with iodine as oxidant was studied. Experiments were carried out in an autoclave to investigate the effects of stirring speed, temperature, solution pH, and iodine and iodide concentrations on the dissolution of rhenium. It was found that a high temperature and a high solution pH were essential for the efficient leaching of rhenium. The dissolution rate was found to be dependent upon the concentration of iodine and iodide. It was concluded that the dissolution of rhenium under the conditions studied was controlled by the mass transfer of iodine with an apparent activation energy of 15.8 kJ/mole.

Caterpillar and Fortescue Metals Group have moved forward with the delivery, installation and support of a complete Cat MineStar System at Fortescue?s Solomon iron ore mine in the Pilbara region of Western Australia. The complete technology suite was implemented for the first phase of Solomon, the 20 Mt/a (22 million stpy) Firetail manned mine, in October 2012. As part of an autonomous mining solution for phase two, the 40-Mt/a (44-million stpy) Kings Mine, eight Command for hauling Cat 793F CMD trucks were commissioned and commenced operations in the second quarter of 2013. The mine plan calls for a progressive ramp up to 45 autonomous trucks during the next several years. In addition, other Cat MineStar System capability sets, Fleet, Terrain, Detect and Health, are being used across the mobile equipment fleet, including support equipment and light vehicles. Working closely with Fortescue and its mining contractor, Leighton Contractors, Caterpillar and the Cat dealer in Western Australia, WesTrac, are providing a full solution for managing, operating and supporting Cat MineStar System and Command for hauling. The greenfield Solomon Mine has brought together the skilled team from Caterpillar, Fortescue, Leighton Contractors and WesTrac to deliver an efficient, cost effective autonomous mining solution.
