This paper looks at the financing process and work required to support it, during and after the Feasibility Study, and bring it to a successful closing. It will include comment on the significance of permits, environmental plans, construction contracts, offtake arrangements, hedging, insurance, and others requirements to support a financing plan.

Squirrel cage induction motors are the mostly used motors at present. Currently, the rotors of the squirrel cage induction motors are produced by aluminum die casting technique with the advantages of low cost of rotors. It is well known that the copper’s electrical conductivity is around 40% higher than that of aluminum. If copper is used to replace the current widely used aluminum in rotors, the total loss of motors will be reduced, hence increasing the overall motor efficiency. Copper rotors can be used to produce high efficiency and even super premium efficiency motors without enlarge the motor frame size. Considering the huge quantity of motors, the die casting process is the best solution to produce copper rotor with economic cost. Because of the characteristics of copper, it is difficult to produce copper rotors by casting similar to that done in aluminum rotors. In order to improve the die casting quality of copper rotor, a new tooling structure was developed and the casting process of copper rotor was simulated and analyzed by Any-casting software. The filling process, solidification process, inner gas distribution and residual melt modulus were analyzed. It was found that the design of symmetrical runner and inner runner on both sides was helpful to reduce the impact of molten copper to the cavity surface during the filling process. The use of Slag traps array can reduce die casting defects inside the end rings. That will be helpful to improve the rotor quality. INTRODUCTION Squirrel-cage AC induction motors are most widely used in the world. In 2017, the total installed capacity of AC motors in China has reached more than 1.2 billion kW, and the annual power consumption accounts for about 60% of the total national electricity consumption. To improve the efficiency of squirrel-cage motor will be helpful to energy conservation and environment protection. There are several ways to improve efficiency of induction motors, using copper rotor is one of the most effective solutions. "At first glance, the activities related to mining and mineral exploration appear to be local or domestic, rather than international, in nature. Minerals, as corporeal or tangible property, form an integral part of the land in which they are found until extracted and exploited commercially. Even in the latter phase, the tangible nature of minerals gives the impression that the law governing the commercialization of minerals is the law of their situs at any given time. The nature of minerals appears to negate the international aspect of mineral enterprises.The fundamental flaw in the above analysis is its focus upon the nature of minerals, rather than the role of persons in mineral enterprises. The high costs of mineral exploration and commercialization invariably require the involvement of international consortiums or joint ventures. Governments may not have access to the funds necessary to exploit the mineral resources that they control. Local or domestic enterprises may not have sufficient expertise for mineral exploration. Further, markets for various types of minerals are far from localized or static. For these and other reasons, the tangible and localized nature of minerals belies the fundamentally international nature of mineral exploration and commercialization."

Introduction The Corbin coalfield is one of the smallest, and at the same time one of the principal, producing bituminous-coal areas in southeastern British Columbia, and is unique on account of the great original thickness of one of its coal seams and the remarkable concentration of coal in a small area that has occurred through intense folding and faulting of the measures. These are such that the deposit has been referred to at times as "the world's thickest coal seam" and as" a mountain of coal." The determination of the number, thickness, and character of the seams present, and the structure, extent, and geological relationship of the several deposits, are of vital interest both to the operating company in its endeavour to evolve the most efficient method of mining these exceptionally thick deposits and to the Government in estimating the coal resources of the different fields. With the object of ascertaining these data the writer was assigned in 1930 to geologically map and study the Corbin coal deposit. A topographic map covering Coal mountain and the immediate vicinity on a scale of 1 inch =800 feet, with a contour interval of 25 feet, made by the Topographic Division of the Geological Survey, served as the base for the geological mapping.

Fair market value, in the legal sense , is the price which a prudent and knowledgeable buyer and a prudent and knowledgeable seller, acting without constraint or compulsion , will agree upon to exchange an asset. In the ordinary commercial or engineering usage, the term may imply simply the market value or a reasonable and equitable price. The engineer evaluator who is called upon to express an opinion about the fair market value of an asset may be able to base his estimate on the sale price of similar assets or on the market values of stock. Frequently such indicators of value are not available and the evaluator must devise other means of appraisal. Mineral resource properties may be thought of as having value by virtue of the existing or potential ability to produce at a profit. Conventional procedures permit the computation of the present value of future revenues having due regard for the time value of money and the risks attendant upon the realization of the venture. Such computations have gained wide acceptance as a basis for the estimation of fair market value.

"Since 1975, the Aluminium Pechiney Research Centre at Saint-Jean-de-Maurienne (LRF) has been concentrating its efforts on designing, testing and perfecting the Aluminium Pechiney point-fed prebaked reduction cell.In 1979, the AP18 cell (180 kA) was industrially launched with the construction and start-up of the F line in Saint-Jean. The following generation, the AP30 (300 kA), with prototypes started in 1981, was launched in 1986 on the Saint-Jean G line. Along with cell design, efficient process control systems were developed to pilot alumina feeding and bath composition. Together, these pots are currently producing 4.6 Mt of aluminum, i.e., 18% of the world’s overall yearly production.In 1989, the research centre faced a new challenge: to push the limits for the size of a reduction cell to further improve the profitability of Greenfield projects. This new generation development was also the opportunity for a significant redesign of the Aluminium Pechiney electrolysis information system.With a track record of ten years of semiindustrial operation with three prototypes, the AP50 technology is now ready for industrial implementation and enables a significant breakthrough to be made in terms of return on investment of a Greenfield smelter."

Planning and design of deep underground mines involves a process of complex three-dimensional data integration utilizing information from exploration (geology, rock mass characteristics), engineering (mining method, excavation geometry, stress) and operations (time, in the form of sequencing). As new logging and monitoring technologies are being developed, the amount and data complexity becomes overwhelming and decisions are often made based on only a small part of the available data. Recently, Laurentian University opened a state-of-the-art Virtual Reality Laboratory (VRL), a Mining Exploratorium that is unique in the world of mining and offers an exceptional data interpretation environment for mine planning and design. The Mining Exploratorium combines a large format spherical stereoscopic projection system, equipped with high definition projection providing the highest resolution of active stereo in the world today, with advanced features of earth modeling software. Combined, this creates the first virtual reality facility geared specifically to the interpretation of mine geometry, geology, geochemistry, microseismicity, geomechanics and mining data sets. This paper demonstrates how value can be added to the mine planning and design process by utilizing this unique tool in the mining decision-making process via better comprehension of spatial relationships of data and by interpreting the data in a collaborative immersive virtual reality environment.

Abstract-The late Archean Pipestone Lake anorthosite complex (PLAC) is a 0.9 x 17 km sill-like layered intrusion that is part of a suite of coeval megacrystic anorthosite bodies in the Cross Lake region, northwestern Superior Province. Exploration for Ti-V-Fe oxide mineralization and concurrent geological investigations have contributed to a greater understanding of the lithostratigraphy of the PLAC and its oxide mineralization. Mapping and drill core studies have established a laterally continuous igneous stratigraphy comprising six leucogabbro/anorthosite zones and three melagabbro/gabbro zones. Field evidence, including disrupted blocks of layered units, scour contacts, and size-graded and modally-graded layering, suggests younging towards both the northern and the central parts of the complex. A decrease in the anorthite content of the feldspars from An75 in the south to An30 in the north suggests that the magmas become more evolved to the north. Macrorhythmic layering and gross morphological features suggest that the PLAC crystallized from four major influxes of geochemically similar basaltic magmas. The paucity of magmatic erosional features in the PLAC indicates that layering developed in a relatively static magma chamber, so that in-situ crystallization processes are required to account for the observed petrologic diversity. Drilling has confirmed that a significant Ti- V-Fe resource is contained in two of the four discrete mineralized subzones in the PLAC. Textural evidence and the stratiform nature of the oxide-enriched subzones are consistent with a magmatic origin for the oxide mineralization.

The International Labor Organization has declared mandatory adequate provision of safe workplace and safety for all workers in all occupations including the mining sector. Early scientists like Agricola (1559) who studied the health of Miners, found that there are peculiar health problems associated to their work and working environment. This unsafe working condition was one of the major factors that resulted to the Industrial revolution in England and eventually led to the establishment of regulations and laws guiding operations in all workplaces and workers in England and all over the world. Recent studies by Heinrich suggested chains of events of safety issues in the mining sector. Occupational injuries, accidents and ill health have huge social and economic implications on workers, their families and communities. Top mining top issues are respiratory diseases, noise, explosives, ventilation, fire, and explosion. However, one of the principal mechanisms for achieving Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) goals and mapping the future is government regulations of employers. In Nigeria, the situation is not different; mining operations are equally hazardous and have far reaching implications. In 1995 the Ministry for Solid Minerals was established to focus on the development of other categories of mineral products ranging from gold, coal, uranium, and tantalum deposited across the country. Prior to this an Act of Parliament Act Cap 121 of 1946, was in place to regulate amongst other contents mining safety. This was subsequently reviewed following the incidence of Lead poisoning resulting from small scale miners processing gold ore highly contaminated with lead in Zamfara state (northern Nigeria). Hundreds of children died as a result of exposure to lead poisoning, it was clear that the regulations were not sufficient (details to be discussed). However, advances have been achieved in mining engineering since then. A review team was constituted to provide a more stringent law to regulate mining operations in Nigeria. The strategies for mapping the future of OHS in mining engineering will employ amongst others setting and adopting ISO/ILO standards and enforcement; providing technical assistance; and establishing sustainable developmental structures as surveillance and compensation. The management systems approach was also developed as a result of cases of accidents. The accepted international standards guidelines and requirements will be proposed. Furthermore in mapping the future for Mining Engineering, it is suggested that most countries have their own management strategies and legislation to improve safety of workers through greater consistency and efficiency of OHS programs. Some American researchers came up with the Safety Engineering Model. The Australian Mining Council of mineral and petroleum resources after the Catastrophic Maura Disaster developed the National Mine and Safety Framework. In Canada, after the Hillcrest mine disaster in 1914, Allan shaft coal mine catastrophe in 1918, Westray mine explosion in 1992 and other disasters, Occupational Health and Safety Act R.R.O 1990 was sufficiently developed to provide adequate safety conditions and standards. In Nigeria after the disastrous Zamfara lead poisoning, which claimed the lives of hundreds of children due to exposure and lack of appropriate safety measures, stringent measures were developed by the federal ministry of Justice to address and regulate mining process in Nigeria.

CIMVal is a special committee of CIM formed on the recommendation of the Mining Standards Task Force of the Toronto Stock Exchange and the Ontario Securities Commission.After solicitation of views and consultation with various interested parties, the CIMVal Draft Standards and Guidelines for Valuation of Mineral Properties were released for comment in February 2002 and were finalized in February 2003. CIMVal’s objective was for the standards to be used by the mining industry in general and to be adopted by Canadian securities regulators and Canadian stock exchanges. To that end, the standards contain many of the definitions and concepts of National Instrument 43-101, Standards of Disclosure for Mineral Projects, which came into force in February 2001.The intent of the CIMVal Standards and Guidelines is that mineral property valuations be carried out by appropriately qualified individuals and that all relevant information be fully disclosed. It consists of two parts: standards, which are mandatory in the valuation of mineral properties, and guidelines, which elaborate on the standards and provide guidance and recommendations for the valuation process and for reporting."

"Laboratory-scale sulphuric acid leach tests were conducted on Elliot Lake and Rabbit Lake ores in the presence of various oxidants, namely: Fe2(SO4)3, CI2, H2O2, NaClO3, MnO2, H2SO5, HNO3, Oxon e, K2Cr2O7, KMnO4, O3 and O2. Uranium extraction is significantly accelerated when an oxidant is present in the leach slurry. Uranium extraction of 96-99% can be achieved by maintaining the oxidation potential of the leach slurry in the range of400 to 500 m V (S.H.E.). A rough cost comparison of all the oxidant s indicates that the use of Fe2(SO4)3, 02, O3, C12, HNO3 or MnO2 is far less expensive than NaClO3 and the uranium extraction rates are similar to or better than with NaCIO3. For uranium extraction, it is concluded that gaseous oxygen (i.e., air or oxygen) would be the most effective and economical oxidant for the 24- to 36-hour leach of Elliot Lake ore; whereas for the 8- to I2-hour leach of Rabbit Lake ore, a strong chemical oxidant (e.g. NaCIO3, H202, 03, K2Cr2O7, H2SO5 or HNO3) would be a logical choice.IntroductionThe common practice for the treatment of uranium o res is leaching with sulphuric acid or with a carbonate-bicarbonate mixture. Generally, the latter process is ad opted when an excess (> 18%) of acid-consuming components (e.g., carbonate) is present in the ore. Irrespective of the nature of the leachant, the addition of an oxidant to the leach mixture is necessary to obtain a high uranium extraction.The maximum extraction of uranium can only take place when all the uranium is in the highest oxidation state (i.e.,U +6-uranic ion) . Because a certain percentage of uranium present in the ore is invariably in the lower oxidation state (i.e.,U+4-uranous ion) , the addition of an oxidant to the leach slurry is necessary to oxidize uranous ion to the uranic state."

Conditional simulation is now an accepted tool for managing ore block design at a number of operating mines. It provides a way to consider the quality of data, local continuity and economic risk in defining ore and waste across the cut-off boundary. In addition a computer based system can ensure consistency in making decisions to meet multiple criteria such as cut-off grades, minimum ore-block size and contaminant grade limits. The development of a procedure for using multiple criteria allows ore blocks to be defined using alternative strategies depending on the specific production requirements. This has introduced the opportunity to define ore blocks for different destinations based on their material types and opens the way for geometallurgical modelling to be incorporated into grade control.

This paper has been confined to the consideration of the working of thick seams, from six feet to sixteen feet, which are pitching at about thirty degrees to the horizontal. The discussion has been limited to these set conditions because they are the ones of commonest occurrence in the Southern Alberta bituminous coal district, because, from the point of view of safety, thin seams are more easily worked, and because a discussion of all the possible combinations of thick and thin seams pitching at angles varying from zero to ninety degrees with the horizontal would involve a task impossible in the time available. It has been assumed that the mine makes gas freely and that the coal is friable and tends to make inflammable dust which is highly explosive. Since the problem requires the taking into account means of maintaining a high proportion of lump coal, it is further assumed that lump coal commands a price considerably higher than the price which can be obtained for run-of-mine or for slack coal. Figure 1, tabulating the various factors which must be considered and their relation to each other, indicates diagrammatically the complexity of the problem. Any method of working becomes divided into two distinct components, the active workings of the mine and the old abandoned workings. While these are in a measure distinct, they are nevertheless inter-related, as shown in the diagram.

The Salmita Gold Mine is located 240 air kilometres northea t of Yellowknife on the east shore of Matthews Lake. Salmita is one of several gold showings which are regionally associated with the steep easterly dipping contact zone between mafic, intermediate and fe lsic volcanics to the west and overlying finely laminated argillaceous sediments to the east. The volcanic assemblage forms a narrow 2 m to 7 m wide north to northwesterly trend ing Belt of Yellowknife Supergroup Archaen greenstone rocks. The contact zone exhibits exhalite character and the increased sulphide content provides a di stinct VLF-EM , IP/Resisti vi ty and/or magnetic signature. Gold occurs at or near this contact in three main settings: associated with si liceous vein-like structures; with finely disseminated sulphides within ericitic altered upper fe lsic tuffaceous unit ; or with quartz in narrow shear zones within the overlying sediment . The B-Vein is of the former type with free mi ll ing gold occurring within a highly sil iceous zone having an average widtn of 1.69 m. Alteration is intense within the immediately su rrounding host lithologies and includes the development of si lica, carbonate, sulphide, sericite and chlorite with minor graphite, epidote. tourmaline and scheelite. The mineable zone above the 4th level (-200 m) ha an average strike of 160 m and is divided into three south plunging ore shoots separated by the regional Salmita Shear Zone in the south and by a low-grade structural hiatus in the north. Production from the B-Vein commenced in August 1983 based on a diluted in situ ore reserve of 140,000 t grading 26.6 git Au . As of December 31, 1985, a total of 131 ,537 t grading 27.8 git Au have been mined at a ra.te of 160 t per day and a 96.4 percent recovery, to produce 3,522 ,000 g (113,227 ounces) of gold . Current (January I, 1986) reserves total 45,500 t grading 37 g/t Au down to the 10th level (-500 m) .

"Pressure exerted on gold producers by regulators, project financiers, and civil society in the wake of the Baia Mare tailings spill in Romania during 2000 prompted most responsible gold companies to sign up to the International Cyanide Management Code for the Manufacture, Transport, and Use of Cyanide in the Production of Gold (the Code). The Code stipulates a ‘cradle to grave’ approach more comprehensive than that applied to any other mining reagent and poses particular challenges for operators who use cyanide-bearing tailings for backfill. This paper examine some of the challenges for Code compliance facing deep underground gold mines that employ backfill technology, most particularly the requirement to demonstrate that the potential migration of cyanide (and its degradation products) from emplaced backfill will not have an unacceptable impact on worker health and safety or on the receiving environment, either during mine life or after closure.Although the Code only contains a single reference to backfill, more careful consideration confirms that most sections of the Code that deal with tailings management are potentially applicable to mines where tailings material is used for backfill. Certain principles of the Code also pertain to aspects of operations, worker safety, emergency response, training, and dialogue with stakeholders relating to backfilling practice.For gold mines of the Far West Rand, the most significant cyanide-related risks associated with backfill operations relate to worker exposure to cyanide-bearing seepage and HCN gas. There is potential for seepage of cyanide-bearing water from backfill to compromise the beneficial use of surface and groundwater, and thus impact on downstream users and ecosystems. However, the extreme depth of mining and the specific geological and hydrological controls on the Far West Rand suggest that the potential environmental risks associated with backfill are likely to be considerably less significant than the cyanide-related risks to the workforce."

Craigmont Mines Limited mine 50,000 tons of ore and waste per day from the open pit at Merritt, British Columbia. An electric-powered "down-the-hole" drill, a diesel-powered rotary drill and two electric-powered rotary drills have been used. All primary drilling, as a result of cost and operating experience, is now performed with two electric-powered rotary drills. Trials with various loading techniques have increased the amount of AN-FO and decreased the amount of commercially prepared slurries used for primary blasting. Approximately 95 per cent of the primary blasting is accomplished with AN -FO, mixed at the hole. Introduction THE Craigmont mine is located near the village of Merritt, B.C., 240 miles northeast of Vancouver. The concentrator has been in production since September of 1961. Craigmont is a combined open-pit and underground operation. To date, slightly more than 95 per cent of the mill feed has been mined from the open pit. As underground development proceeds, the ore requirements from the open pit will decrease. The average milling rate from September, 1961, to April, 1964, was approximately 4,900 tons per day.

In these days, however, such a definition is not detailed enough.The modern science of metallurgy is based on two fundamental sciences, physics .and chemistry, and is sub-divided into two major fields: Process Metallurgy and Physical Metallurgy. These fields of metallurgy are now so comprehensive and involved that even the graduate metallurgist has to specialize in one or the other.In recent years, the relatively new science or technology of non• destructive testing has also entered the industrial scene, with tremendous impact and ramifications. So much so that, certainly, no .discussion on metallurgy can be complete without including some reference to it.Obviously, one paper cannot hope to cover in detail the relationship of the whole science of metallurgy to the mining industry. Consequently, only a very brief reference will be made to the field of Process Metallurgy, our major concern being with Physical Metallurgy and Non-Destructive Testing."

"Abstract - The Mount Fronsac North volcanogenic massive sulfide deposit is the most recently discovered massive sulfide body in the Bathurst Mining Camp. The deposit occurs within a sequence of intercalated fine-grained felsic tuff and sedimentary rocks (Little Falls member), at the top of the Nepisiguit Falls Formation. Aphyric to sparsely feldspar-phyric rhyolite and related volcanic rocks of the Flat Landing Brook Formation overlie the host sequence. The massive and semimassive parts of the deposit have a north-south strike length of 525 m and a dip of ~45°E; the deposit is continuous downdip for 600 m, and thickness varies from 2 to 20 m. The deposit contains an estimated geologic resource of 14 Mt of low-grade, semimassive (>60%) to locally massive sulfides, and includes a high-grade zone of 1.26 Mt grading 7.65% Zn, 2.18% Pb, 0.14% Cu, 40.3 g/t Ag, and 0.40 g/t Au. The semimassive to massive sulfide intersections occur in an envelope of quartz-sericite±chlorite schist, which is interpreted to be intensely deformed felsic tuff. This sequence has a maximum thickness of 140 m and contains significant (up to 50%) fine- to coarse-grained disseminated pyrite. The pyritic envelope has a strike length of 900 m and extends over 1000 m downdip. Massive sulfides are found throughout this alteration envelope, but more commonly occur at or near the upper contact. The significance of the discovery of this deposit is that it represents a near surface discovery of a large tonnage sulfide body in a mature mining camp, one in which the possibility of discovery of a new shallow deposit had been all but discounted. This opens the possibility for future discoveries in this part of the Bathurst Mining Camp. L’importance de cette découverte tient à ce qu’elle est un exemple d’un gisement à fort tonnage nouvellement découvert à une faible profondeur dans un camp minier mature, i.e., un camp ou l’on ne croyait plus qu’il était possible de trouver un gisement près de la surface. Ceci ouvre la porte à la possibilité d’autres découvertes dans cette partie du Camp Minier de Bathurst."

In 1913, potash mineralization was recognized at a depth of over 7,000 feet in an oil-well hole (Norcanol's Radville No. 1 well) drilled near the town of Raddlle, Saskatchewan. Although, at this depth, potash is not considered mineable by conventional underground mining methods, this discovery shed the first light on the potash deposits of Saskatchewan in much the same manner as oil-well drilling was responsible for the first discovery of potash in the Carlsbad Basin of New Mexico in 19:25. The discovery near Radville alerted the oil-well geologists and, as a result potash mineralization was recognized in the Verbata No. 2 well, near Unity, Saskatchewan, in 1946. The mineralization, which was at a depth ?of 3,466 feet, graded more than 20 per cent K20 over a thickness of eleven feet. "The ultimate aim of the Law of the Sea Conference, held under the auspices of the United Nations, is to ensure that all aspects of the use of the sea are covered by international law. The question facing the nations of the world can be stated as: "" Who will control and benefit from the use and the wealth of the sea?""The United Nations Conference on Law of the Sea - known as UNCLOS - which reconvened in New York during the latter part of August 1978 was the third such Conference in the UN's history. The concepts of sovereignty over the territorial sea and freedom on the high seas have remained fundamental to the international law o f the sea until our time. The legal regime based on these two concepts developed initially from state practice meant that the unilateral actions taken by one or more countries were eventually accepted and followed by others.It was not until 1958, during the first Geneva Conference on the Law of the Sea (pursued in a second Conference in 1960) that the Law of the Sea was codified and modified to a certain extent by the then independent nations of the world in the four multilateral conventions on territorial sea and contiguous zone, continental shelf, high seas, and fishing and conservation of living resources.A third Conference got under way many years later when the members of the UN met in New York at the end of 1973 for preliminary discussions . This meeting stemmed largely from the need to fill gaps in existing international legislation which did not cover the new uses of the sea. The Conference was subsequently reconvened a number of times - in Caracas (1974), in Geneva (1975) and twice in New York (1976) for what was called "" substantive negotiating sessions."" A sixth session was held in New York in 1977; a seventh, held in Geneva at the beginning of 1978, recessed and reconvened in New York at the end of August 1978. This is what is referred to, in international jargon, as the seventh session of the Third United Nations Conference on the Law o f the Sea. The following dates are the principal markers of a saga which began some twenty years ago with the purpose of regulating the use of the oceans."
