"Electrolytic manganese dioxide (EMD) residue was mixed with shale and fly ash as the main materials to make solidification/sintering brick for the utilization of the residue from EMD production. The effects of sintering temperature, sintering time, solid waste content and cooling process on its mechanical properties and toxic elements solidification were investigated according to compressive strength and leaching toxicity. The results showed that the calcined residue had capability of solidifying toxic metals and exhibited perfect strength after treated in the optimal parameters of EMD residue below 50%, temperature at 1000-1100°C, time3-5h, and semi-quenched at 600°C1 InstructionSolid clay-brick holds the leading position among building materials for a very long time in China. The traditional technique of making clay-brick has the drawbacks of backward process, simple facilities and single product. Since Chinese Reform and Opening-up, urban-rural construction and real estate have been booming with the rapidly development of national economy and science technology. The problems of ruining fertile land, environment contamination and high energy consumption in the traditional technique of clay-brick making have not been solved yet. On the other hand, more than 7 billion tons of industrial wastes are accumulated over years which occupies over 6.7 million hectares filed and causes serious environmental problems[1-31. Strategy present in ""The Chinese Agenda of the 21st Century"" required the production of wall materials less energy conservation, land saving and waste recycling.Coal gangue[4-9l, fly ash[I0- 13l, sludge from waste water treatment and tailings of gypsum, pyrite, copper mine, high silicon containing iron, asbestos and ects [l4-lSJ are the solid wastes used for brick making around the world. There are two kinds of process for brick making, high temperature sintering and low temperature steam curing[19•201. Although the technology of two brick making made great progress and got widely application in construction field, no precedent for preparing sintering-bricks with EMD residue as materials occurred in China because of its complicated processing technics and lack of sufficient practical experience to guarantee the bricks' quality.In this study, EMD residue was mixed with shale and fly ash as the main materials to make solidification/sintering brick. The surface collapse and surrounding rock failure caused by goaf instability are the mining disasters that cannot be ignored. It is of great value to evaluate the stability of goaf accurately and treat it economically for the mine safety and the maintenance of ecological environment. However, in previous studies based on numerical simulation methods, the spatial complexity and the irregularity of actual goaf were not considered. Therefore, based on the internal space data of goaf obtained by high-precision laser detector, the goaf stability was comprehensively analyzed through Plaxis software and two-stage fuzzy judgment theory in this study. To effectively improve the goaf stability, the optimal backfill parameters for the goaf treatment were obtained by a series of mechanical tests. The research results provide some good references for the stability evaluation and the treatment of underground goaf.

In order to ensure safe mining and reduce surface damage in shallow multiple-seam mining, the failure characteristics of interburden strata with different coal pillar offset distances between pillars in the upper and lower seams, the distribution characteristics of stress concentration in coal pillars, and the development characteristics of stratum cracks and subsidence were physically investigated and also using UDEC2D software. Meanwhile, the effect of different coal pillar offset distances on the stress concentration of coal pillars and development of stratum cracks were studied. Based on those results, a formula for safe mining and reducing surface damage was established, which provided a theoretical basis for safe and environmentally friendly mining in shallow multi-seams. According to the results of the study, the optimal coal pillar offset distance (the side-to-side horizontal distance of the upper and lower coal pillars) between the upper and lower coal seams was developed to reduce the stress concentration of coal pillars and surface damage. The results of this study have been applied in Ningtiaota coal mine and have achieved good results in safe and environmentally friendly mining.

Based on the characteristics of typical marine sedimentary phosphate rock in Guizhou, Southwest China, together with the research findings made on the surface electric properties of pure collophanites taken from different areas in pure water and under the action of collectors, a pure minerals flotation test of collophanite was conducted in this research. The differences of collophanite flotation behavior and the effects of the different pH values, varieties, and dosage of collector on flotation separation of collophanite were studied. It is suggested that that in pure water, collophanite had a negative charge within a wide pH range. The electro negativity values of collophanite increased with the addition of collectors GJBW and WF-01. When GJBW and WF-01 were used as collectors, the collophanite was depressed in acid medium, but had a good flotability in basic medium.

"In this study, reduction of iron ore pellets was carried out at 800-950°C by simulating the atmosphere of typical coal gasification gas. The effects of temperature, gas composition and reduction degree on swelling were investigated respectively. Reduction degree was obtained according to the weight loss records. And volume changes of pellets during reduction were evaluated by infrared photography. Results showed that the pellet swelling increased with temperature and decreased slightly with hydrogen content in the reducing gas. The swelling peaked when reduction degree reached about 40% and then decreased to be stable finally. The microstructures of pellets during reduction were examined by reflected light microscope and relatively rational explanations were proposed for their swelling behaviors.PrefaceDirect reduction iron is an important and indispensable raw material for high-purified and high-quality steel in the electric furnace smelting. Gas-based shaft furnace direct reduction process has very strong competitative ability; however, this technique requires natural gas as reducing agent, so its development has been restricted by gas source and area. Compared with gas-based reduction method, coal based reduction method has the disadvantages of higher production cost and lower productivity. In China, coal resources are abundant and coal gasification technology is mature, and the development of coal gasification shaft furnace direct reduction process is promising. [1] The gasification methods of fixed bed method (Lurgi method), fluidized bed method (Undok method), airflow bed method (Texaco coal water slurry method and Shell dry powder coal method) have been put into use successfully. These syngas generated by different methods can meet the actual production requirement of shaft furnace. However, the compositions of the effective reduction gas in the syngas are quite different. The ratios of hydrogen and carbon monoxide (H2/CO) of Undok or Shell coal gas, Texaco coal gas and Lurgi coal gas are 0.4, 0.6~ 1.0 and 1.6~2.3, respectively. [2] In the coal gas direct reduction process, the swelling behavior of iron ore pellets is various due to the differences of the gas composition, reduction temperature and reduction degree, and it seriously affects the normal operation ofDRI production. [3-9] Therefore, the research on the swelling behavior and its mechanism of iron ore pellets in direct reduction were carried out in this paper."

The paper is mainly about a study on the techniques of separating iron from pyrite cinder of a certain sulfuric acid plant in Shandong province. The main components of the cinder are Fe2O3 and SiO2, and the degree of liberation of iron mineral and gangue is very high. So the iron concentrate with higher degree of iron and lower grade of silicon and sulfur can be achieved by reverse flotation. The iron grade of the concentrate reaches 63% and the recovery of iron is no less than 63%. And the most important influencing factor of the flotation is the temperature of the pulp. A better guideline can be achieved by magnetic separation. The cinder is magnetizing roasted for 15 minutes with temperature of 800?, and the concentrate with the iron grade 64%, sulfur grade 0.2% and iron recovery 85% can be obtained by two stage magnetic separation. A rotary kiln has been built to deal with the pyrite cinder, and the result of the industrial magnetizing experiment and magnetic separation is satisfying.

Sodium oleate was an effective diaspore collector, whereas chelate collector OL2 showed certain collecting power over diaspore and nonionic surfactant OL3 showed little collecting ability. Then experiments were carried out using sodium oleate as the main collector with the addition of OL2,OL3 to study the influences on diaspore flotation, it could be seen from the experiments that accelerants had a marked influence on the recovery of diaspore, which could be raised by 10%, and the addition sequence also affected the flotation behavior: the best results could be gained when the accelerants were mixed thoroughly before adding and the best ratio of collector OL1 and accelerant OL2, OL3 stood at 30:2:1. Based on the calculation of the ingredients in the sodium oleate solution, sodium oleate reacted with surface of the mineral and formed the acid-soap polymer [HOl?Ol-] when pH was about 9. Zeta potential test showed the accelerant promoted the absorption of collector on the mineral surface, which lowered zeta potential. As could be seen from surface tension experi-ments, the addition of accelerant OL3 lowered the CMC value of OL1 solution, which was equiva-lent to raise the power of the agents. Further Infrared Ray experiments showed the co-absorption of OL1 and OL2 make aluminum oleate on the mineral surface more stable. Up till now, the mixed reagents with sodium oleate as the main collector, combined with other two accelerants had been used in the Zhongzhou concentration plant, which is the first diaspore flotation plant in China.

Bauxite residue known as red mud (RM) is a by-product produced in massive quantities during alumina production by the Bayer process with a utilisation rate of less than 5%. A large amount of RM accumulated and produced continuously has had a seriously adverse impact on the surrounding ecological environment. The application of RM in building materials is considered to be the most effective and thorough way to make RM harmless and recycle resources for the reason that adding RM to concrete as a mineral admixture could not only consume a lot of RM, but also save cement and other energy-consuming industrial products. In this paper, the adaptability to cement and aggregate of RM was studied. The results showed that the compressive strength and flexural strength of concrete using ordinary Portland cement, slag Portland cement or fly ash Portland cement as cementing material showed different trends with the increase of the amount of RM. The influence rules of RM on the compressive strength of Portland cement, slag Portland cement and fly ash Portland cement concrete were similar, whether for silicate aggregate or carbonate aggregate. RM has a negative correlation to the flexural strength of silicate aggregate-ordinary Portland cement concrete, but a positive correlation to silicate aggregate-slag Portland cement, silicate aggregate-fly ash Portland Cement. RM promoted the formation of calcium carbonate crystals and inhibited the formation of ettringite and calcium hydroxide crystals in the matrix while ordinary Portland cement, Portland cement and fly ash Portland cement were used as cementing materials. This study provided support for the use of RM in concrete, the reduction of solid waste storage, and the saving of high energy consumption cement as well. A biosorbent, the chemically modified orange peel, was prepared from hydrolysis of the grafted copolymer, which was synthesized by interacting methyl acrylate with cross-linking orange peel, and FT-IR spectroscopy was used for determining the structure of the biosorbent. Adsorption characteristics and effects of various factors of the biosorbent on Cu (II) were investigated including pH, adsorption time and initial concentration of Cu (II). Experiment results show that when pH was 6.0 and the initial concentration of Cu (II) was 50mg·L-1, the removal rate was 91.7% after 3 h adsorption. After four cycles being reused, 85.3% removal rate could be obtained by the biosorbent.

Winter-time natural convection in gravel embankments has been suggested as a technique to provide passive cooling and thereby avoid thaw-settlement of roadways located in permafrost areas. Numerical simulation by finite volume method on the proposed model is perf9rmed using the software FLUENT. A gravels model, in which the embankment is composed of stones and air, has been adopted to investigate the temperature and velocity fields in embankment. Simulation results show that in summer, a weak clockwise circulation of the pore air extending throughout most of the embankment. The pore-air motion is very weak which results in relatively straight horizontal isotherm lines. And heat transfer is mainly maintained through conduction. But in winter, pore-air velocities are higher and multiple vortexes are formed in the embankment. Natural convection then becomes the dominant influence on the isotherm shapes within the embankment. As a result of low ambient temperatures exerted on the embankment surface during winter months, an unstable air density gradient develops within the embankment. This convection increases the heat flux out of the embankment. Therefore, the winter-time convection can further reduce the temperature of the foundation soil beneath the open-graded embankment. In addition, the effects of the size of the stones within the embankment have been analyzed and compared in the gravel model. It shows that in winter, 200mm stones lead to stronger vortexes in the embankment compared with those of 60mm stones. Consequently, the zone oflow-temperature beneath the embankment is extended.

The flotation circuit and the reagents of the all-sliming flotation about low grade and hard operation on zinc oxide ore are researched in the paper. The results indicated that there are many types of zinc minerals in this ore, and the composition is very complex. They include hemimorphite, smithsonite, hydrozincite and so on. The ore is seriously sliming. In light of the ore properties, three kinds of flowsheets have tested. They are gravity concentration (cleaning tables), flotation, combined process of gravity concentration and flotation. The test showed that the recovery of zinc is only 17.08% in the gravity separation. In combined process of gravity separation and flotation, the recovery of zinc concentrate is close to 70%. But the flow-sheet is complex and hard to control in the production. The floatation circuit is feasible. In the test, it pay attention to investigate the new combined reagent which is used in selective all?sliming flotation process. The effects of slime are eliminated by the multi-loop treatment of middling. In flotation, the final recovery of concentrate is 88.76%; the grade is 29.50%. The recovery of physical ore is 93%; and the recovery of -10mm fraction is more than 65%.

Reverse flotation process tests were conducted for marine sedimentary silicon-calcium phosphate ore in this research. The research findings showed that by adding antifoamer, a concentrate with P2O5 32.36%, SiO2 10.69%, MgO 0.67% was obtained, with recovery of P2O5 being 88.12%. Such is a satisfying result, when compared with the original mineralogical component of P2O5 26.64%, SiO2 11.51% and MgO 3.36%. When using antifoamer, the SiO2 grade of the concentrate increased 0.55%, the MgO grade decreased 0.64%, while P2O5 recovery increased 2.69% compared by adding no antifoamer. Adding antifoamer is favorable to increase the grade and recovery of P2O5. Therefore, antifoamer is necessary. Tests of synergistic reaction of antifomer indicate that the appropriate consumption of the antifoamer is 275g/t CY and 1Kg/t TWF. "In this present paper, the authors introduce the artificial neural networks into the modeling of the industrial flotation process, integrating information technology, control theory and intelligent optimizing method to flotation technology. The new idea gives a new way to solve the difficulty in this field, and therefore brings the study on the automatic control of flotation process in China into a new start.The Radial Basis Function (RBF) network, featuring a quick learning speed, is one of the feedforward neural networks. It has attracted much attention from automatic control recently for its implementing the nonlinearity mapping through adjusting the parameters of the nonlinearity transfer function. One of the online adaptive learning algorithm—the nearest neighbor-clustering algorithm, which can automatically determine the number of hidden units, has been implemented in the MATLAB programming language in this paper, laying the foundation for the flotation models.The relation model between ore pulp characteristics and reagents consumption has been proposed using the RBF networks based on the industrial lead rougher flotation of lead & zinc ore, and the simulation has been conducted in the laboratory with the results matching the samples data very well. The Xilin Lead & Zinc Mine Flotation Process Intelligent Consultation System of Reagents Consumption, which suitable for industrial process, has been developed. The reagents consumption advised by this system would stabilize the flotation process, and increase the recoveries. It could be used for providing the technological consultation to flotation operators in site, and for training new operators."

With the feature of finely-dissemination particle and complex mineral composition, oolitic hematite is considered to be the ore dressing difficult problem in the world. Series research on refractory oolitic hematite in Zhangjiakou Area are introduced as following: ore properties?technology mineralogy and mineral processing technology. The survey shows: with the fine grinding of the hematite to a fineness of -0.076mm 95%, obtaining iron concentrates grading 62.74% Fe at the recovery of 46.80% by high intensity magnetic separation- reverse flotation flowsheet; under the three stages intensity magnetic separation,four stages grinding and four stages gravity separation, getting the iron concentrates grading 61.09% Fe at the recovery of 45% using high intensity magnetic separation- gravity separation flowsheet; with roasting temperature of 800°C, time for 75~90min and ore-coal ratio of 11, gaining the iron concentrates assaying 62.74% Fe at the recovery of 87% by roasting- magnetic separation flowsheet. At present, this research is still doing for the target of raising the concentration recovery on the base of high grade concentrate. "With increasing shortage of raw materials, the beneficiation of ultra-fine ores will play a larger role in the near future. Many established process technologies do not yield satisfactory separation results for ultra-fine materials. Without selectivity, high-grade concentrates cannot be produced. The material at hand is a taconite which had to be ground to d(90) = 25 µm to guarantee liberation of the iron oxides. The comminution was done by High Pressure Grinding Roll (HPGR) and resulted in smooth surfaces and clear grain boundaries. This is an indication of selective grinding and mineral liberation. Further processing steps included selective desliming, magnetic separation as well as reverse flotation. INTRODUCTION During the last centuries, the processing of iron ores became increasingly important. The coarse-grained, so-called lump ores that are ready for direct usage in blast furnaces without further processing are becoming gradually less abundant. The processing of ultra-fine-grained ores, which in addition require a complex ore beneficiation due to the composition of the material, will progressively gain relevance with increasing resource shortages in the future (Arvidson, 2013). The term “ultra-fine” does not hold a precise definition in mineral processing. In this paper, “ultra-fine-grained” ores are defined by the required grind size for full liberation smaller than 20 µm. Many established mineral processing technologies do not yield satisfactory separation results for ultra-fine materials. Thus, they are limited in their application to produce high-grade concentrates suitable for sintering and pelletizing for direct reduction processes. The production of a high-grade iron concentrate (over 68% Fe) with low silica content (under 2.5% SiO2) is possible from both magnetite and hematite containing ore. In addition to the mineral processing technologies (magnetic and gravity separation, flotation), technologies for the liberation of fine-grained iron ores need to be developed and improved. In contrast to the conventional wet grinding circuit by means of tumbling mills, several future trends in dry and wet grinding and regrinding are already in use. These include technologies such as vibration mills (Palla®Mill), stirred media mills (Vertimill®), vertical roller mills (Loesche) and high-pressure grinding rolls (HPGR) (Jankovic, 2015). This study preliminary investigated the mineral processing of a low-grade, ultra-fine-grained, complex iron ore in a laboratory scale after dry grinding by HPGR to 90% < 25 µm without consideration of the grinding, milling, energy and classification cost."

During mining, the stress in the coal face varies, and, at the same time, the gas flows from the coal body into the excavation, which will cause the gas pressure to change continuously. Assuming the coal gas content of the coal to be constant, and applying the law of energy conservation, the influence of stress concentration on the gas pressure was analysed. It was found that the stress is proportional to the gas pressure. Finally, as a result of analysis and the law of gas flow, the gas pressure dynamic distribution ahead of tunnelling was modelled, and the mechanism by which blasting induces outburst was explained by making use of the model. "Non-isothermal combustion experiments of different additive amount of bituminous (0, 20, 40, 60, 80, 100 wt%) were conducted by synthesized thermogravimetry analyzer(STA409PC) from room temperature to 900°C in air. The changes of combustion characteristic parameters o f pulverized coals in different atmospheres are analyzed. The results show that DTG curves of coal combustion move to low temperature zones when the amount of bituminous increases. It indicates that both ignition and burnout temperature are lower, burnout time decreases, combustion characteristic index obviously increases, and combustion performance of blending coal are improved. The iso-conversional method involving Kissinger-Akah-Sunose (KAS) method was used for the kinetic analysis of the main combustion process. The results indicated that, when the additive amount of bituminous varied from 0 to 100 wt%, the value of activation energy which would sharply reduce if the additive amount of bituminous was under 60% increased from 133.94 kJ•mol-1 to 78.03 kJ•mol-1by using KAS method.IntroductionPulverized coal injection (PCI) to blast furnace (BF) is an important way for saving energy and reducing resource consumption during the ironmaking process. In order to acquire higher coal injection quantity, the relevant research topics in the field of pulverized coal combustion technology such as enhancing the efficiency of pulverized coal combustion, improving the combustion characteristics and reducing the harmful gas emissions and so on received extensive attention in recent years [1,2]. The combustion of blending coal when the appropriate proportion is selected for coal and also mixed well- distributed could give full play to the advantages of various types to make up the defects of single coal which is widely used throughout the world. So the blending coal injection to BF could produce a good impact on safety and economy for productive process. Therefore, a large amount of experimental researches on the combustion characteristic of blending coal for anthracite and bituminous were carried out by experts and scholars around the world [2-7].Nevertheless, the systematic research on the combustion behavior of anthracite with different content of bitumite in a thermogravimetric analyzer (TGA) is less. So in this paper, using the method of multiple scanning rate of conversion method, bituminous to promote the pulverized coal combustion reaction was studied to analyze its promotion mechanism of pulverized coal combustion reaction process, and the kinetic parameters of activation energy was also calculated, which to provide theoretical basis for the rationalization of resource utilization."

"Smelting reduction technology has been developed greatly in recent years. But one of the key problems for this technology is about the refractory that used as lining material in the molten bath. Investigation and test shown that corrosion rate of refractory was much higher and the corrosion mechanism was much more complexity in the molten bath of smelting reduction with iron bath than that of the blast furnace and rotary furnace technology [l-5]. The corrosion behavior and corrosion rate of Al2OrC-ZrO2 series refractory in the melt of smelting reduction with iron bath have been studied by rotary immersion and quasi-static immersion test in this paper. The major factors that affect the interaction between the melt and refractory were investigated. The test results shown that the corrosion rate of AI2O 3-C-ZrO2 series refractory decreased with the ZrO2 increasing when ZrO2 content was from 3% to 10%. Ferrous oxides content, relative moving speed between the melt and refractory and temperature of the molten bath were the important factors that affect the corrosion rate. But the ferrous oxides concentration was the most important one. The corrosion rate was increased as a linear relation with the rising of ferrous oxides content of the melt. The corrosion rate in the quasi-static immersion was much less than that of the dynamic immersion (rotary immersion) for the Al2O 3-CZrO2 series refractory in the same testing condition. The corrosion mechanism of Al2OrC-ZrO2 series refractory is: graphite oxidized in advance, then interaction between the constituents of refractory and melt taken place and deteriorate layer of refractory and new compounds were formed, the properties of refractory was changed.IntroductionSmelting reduction with iron bath is a typical technology [3, 4, 6]. The obvious features of the melt for smelting reduction technology with iron bath are much higher ferrous oxides and much more complexity melt composition and structure than that of the blast furnace technology [2, 5-8]. The properties of the melt were changed dynamicilly and constantly in reduction process. On the other hand, the behavior of the melt depends on the activity and the reduction rate of ferrous oxides in the molten bath[9]. Because of the high concentration of ferrous oxides in slag and high reduction rate in the molten bath, the corrosion behavior and corrosion mechanism of the refractory lining by melt are an important factor in development of the technology of smelting reduction with iron bath. Up to now, improving refractory quality to anti-corrosion of melt and developing high quality and long term refractory used as the lining refractory materials in the molten bath of the final reduction furnace are also the most important questions for developing smelting reduction technology."

ArcelorMittal Prijedor is a goethitic iron ore mine located in the north-west of Bosnia and Herzegovina, which mainly supplies ArcelorMittal’s European subsidiaries. Annual production of the asset stands at the level of 1.5–2.1 million tons of iron ore product which is sent to ArcelorMittal Zenica steelmaking plant. Two types of products with approximately 50 per cent Fe are generated in Prijedor through a process composed by crushing, screening, and magnetic separation stages. Within this process one of the tailings produced is called ‘ultrafines’. The ‘ultrafines’ product corresponds to the desliming hydrocyclones overflow in Prijedor plant, which is classified in a size fraction below 25 μm and corresponds to about 5 per cent of feed. This material is richer in iron than the coarser size fractions of the ore but do not present a good performance in concentration processes. In this way, several studies have been carried out during the last years to find solutions to use the ‘ultrafines’ material without success. In this context, the possibility of dehydroxylate the goethite contained in the material transforming the mineral into hematite and thus increasing the iron grade of the final product was investigated. During the research, several dehydroxylation tests with different temperatures and time of exposure were performed. Using dihydroxylation process at temperatures higher than 800°C it was possible to produce a material with 43 per cent Fe from the original 39 per cent Fe ‘ultrafines’ sample. In addition, the dehydroxylation tests confirmed that goethite becomes completely transformed into hematite at 400°C (with an exposure time of 60 mins) and material is completely sintered at 1200°C. A simulation study based on dehydroxylation tests results showed that it would be possible to use a ‘ultrafines’ product with Fe grade higher than 45 per cent to produce a material with 50 per cent Fe through a complete dehydroxylation process.

"In this paper, the desulfuration of pyrite cinder pellets was carried out. Phase analysis shows that most sulfur of pyrite cinder exists in the form of elementary sulfur. Most sulfur was removed in preheating stage. 81.25% sulfur was removed and the average SO2 concentration of exhaust gas was 1365ppm when the pellets were preheated at 950oC for 9 min. The final product, assaying 62.42wt%Fe and 0.02wt%S content at 96.88% desulfuration was achieved under the conditions of preheating at 950? for 9 min and roasting at 1200? for 15 min, which can be used as the burden for blast furnace.IntroductionPyrite cinder, as a subsidiary product of sulfuric acid production by roasting of pyrite ores, was solid waste in sulfuric acid enterprises. According to the statistics, the annual production of pyrite cinder is about 15 million tons in China. Besides, there is lots of pyrite cinder deposited for many years [1-3]. The pyrite cinder consumed in the cement and other industries as auxiliary additives only accounts for less 30% of its total discharge and the left is stored in waste pond, occupying much land and polluting environment in China [4-5]. Moreover, pyrite cinder contains iron between 30-63% which can be utilized as a cheap raw material for ironmaking by sintering or pelletizing processes, which can not only prevent pollution but also provide cheap raw materials for ironmaking [6-7]. However, compared to traditional iron ore concentrate, pyrite cinder possesses higher sulfur content."
