"Due to the colossal increment in the industrialization, the generation of wastes gathered as a result of different extraction, benefaction and generation processes is having an alarming problem for waste disposal. The best and most acceptable way is to use the waste in accordance to its potential for the generation of high value lucrative composite goods. The study in this paper elucidates the potential of several industrial wastes like fly ash, red mud and marble slurry dust for the production of different wood substitute products like doors, windows, roofing sheets and instant houses for the rehabilitation on the sites of catastrophes. Wastes were initially characterized for the physical, chemical and mineralogical properties and then used in different formulations with binder like Polymer along with natural fiber like Jute to intensify the physical as well as mechanical properties of the resultant composite. The study also reveals that these composites have better mechanical properties than the available ones like teak, medium density board, Rice husk board etc. Also, the fly ash and red mud composites have better mechanical properties than marble slurry based composites. The results fosters the implementation of natural fiber with the industrial waste in the generation of eco-friendly and non-hazardous composites.IntroductionOver the last few decades, there has been a tremendous increase in the generation of industrial wastes gathered as a result of various extractions, benefaction and generation processes. Secondly, to act as a perfect substitute for the conventionally existing building materials, this will aid in dwelling places to many with the least incorporation of exhaustive natural resources as woods quid pro quo."

"The microwave dielectric properties of silicon dioxide at frequencies of 915 and 2450 MHz were characterized in the temperature range of 24 to approximately 1000 °C using the cavity perturbation technique. It is shown that the relative dielectric constant of silicon dioxide at both frequencies remains almost unchanged below 500 °C, above which there is a slight increase of 2%. The relative dielectric loss factor of silicon dioxide exhibits a strong temperature dependence above 500 °C and increases by approximately 7 and 5 times at 915 and 2450 MHz, respectively. The substantial increase in the relative dielectric loss factor is mainly attributed to the enhanced dielectric polarization and accelerated electrical transport in silicon dioxide at elevated temperatures.IntroductionSilicon dioxide (Si02) is usually considered a microwave transparent material due to its poor absorption capability at room temperature [1]. This characteristic has led to various applications of silicon dioxide in microwave processing of materials and communication. For instance, Si02 has been used to produce sample holders for microwave heating and substrates for electronic devices [2,3]. These applications generally require the material to withstand high temperatures under microwave irradiation. This indicates that microwave absorption capabilities of silicon dioxide at elevated temperatures are also important for its utilization.The microwave absorption capability of Si02 can be determined based on dielectric characterization (permittivity measurement) of the material at commonly used microwave frequencies, 915 and 2450 MHz, in a broad temperature range. To date, however, no detailed work on the dielectric properties (permittivity) of silicon dioxide at high temperatures has been reported. The present work is aimed to study the dielectric properties of silicon dioxide from room temperature to approximately 1000 °C at 915 and 2450 MHz. The results show that the permittivity of silicon dioxide has a strong temperature dependence above 500 °C, suggesting a substantial increase in its microwave absorption capability."

"The enrichment and separation of scattered metal indium component in the pressure leaching solution with sulfuric acid from vacuum furnace germanium slag were studied by iron substitute and P204 extraction, which is supplied by shaoguan smelter. The experimental results show that the extracting power of P204 for indium from pressure leach solution is powerful. The optimal technological condition were the ratio of P204 and sulphonating serosene 3:7, phase ratio 1:3, solution pH 1.2, and extracting 5 minute. The enrichment indium solution of 21.7 g/L In at 95.2% recovery ratio was obtained by three-stage counter flow extraction and four- stage counter flow stripping.IntroductionScattered metals, such as Indium and germanium, were inriched as intermediate product or by-product during the metallurgy process of other non-ferrous metals, such as lead, zinc, copper and tin. For example, the indium and germanium were inriched in vacuum furnace germanium slag, which is the by-product of zinc vacuum distillation operation from hard zinc. It is difficult to recovery the indium from the vacuum furnace germanium slag, because the indium content is low, and the chemical composition and phase compositon were complex.Recovery indium from bearing indium zinc slag was researched extensively, such as pressure acid leaching, high temperature evaporation, solvent extraction method[l-7], acid leaching method has the advantages of high leaching rate, which can be separated hydrochloric acid, sulfuric acid and silicon fluoride acid systems. Solvent extraction method has the advantages of low production cost, fast reaction speed, high enrichment ratio, and simple operation."

In 1997, 9.2 million tonnes of mined, recoverable copper was produced, of which, 1.8 million tonnes or 19.4% was produced by leaching, solvent extraction and electrowinning. The amount of copper produced by this method grew faster than those attained from concentrate smelting, signifying the growing importance of this low-cost production method. Statistical experimental design, unlike traditional approaches, allows for proper distribution of experiments within the boundaries of factors being studied such that the number of experiments required to develop a sound relationship between the factors and a response is minimized. In the past, very little use has been made of statistical experimental design in copper electrowinning studies. Traditional one- variable-at-a-time approaches are widely employed for this purpose. The present study employs a factorial experimental design to relate current efficiency with current density (180 and 300 A/m2), copper concentration (25 and 65 gL), and temperature (40 and 60 °C). Pure synthetic electrolyte with a constant acid concentration of 180 g/L was used throughout the study. The designed study produced a linear relationship where the independent variables of current density, copper concentration, and temperature, and their interactions, were found statistically significant. It was shown that current efficiency could not solely be used as a predictor of copper cathode quality. The quality of the deposit is difficult to be incorporated into a model or relation. It was determined that other measures, such as cathode morphology and crystal structure should be considered. This was done through XRD and SEM analysis.

Lead anodes used in zinc electrowinning generally contain 0.5 - 1.0 % silver to reduce the rate of corrosion over the service life. For good quality zinc, the cathodes must contain less than 10 ppm lead. In order to reduce the lead contamination of the cathode, the lead anode must become coated with a protective layer of Pb02/Mn02. The formation of this layer may take as long as 30 - 60 days, during which time zinc production is substantially reduced and the cathodes are contaminated with lead. To improve the mechanical properties of Pb-Ag-anodes alloying elements such as calcium, strontium, barium and others are added. The production of cast lead-silver or lead-silver-calcium anodes often results in the formation of numerous holes, voids or laps in the anode surface that can initiate localized internal corrosion. Based on the experience as the major supplier of rolled anodes for copper electrowinning, RSR Technologies has developed an improved anode for zinc electrowinning. The anode consists of a rolled Pb- Ag-Ca-alloy with a controlled surface grain structure. It forms an adherent protective oxide coating within 2 - 3 days when placed in an electrowinning cell. The preferred calcium and silver contents of the alloy are 0.03 - 0.08 % and 0.3 - 0.4%, respectively. Rolling sheets significantly reduces the presence of internal porosity or laps. The lack of defects results in long anode life. The rolling also produces a uniform grain structure to which the corrosion product readily adheres, thus significantly reducing the conditioning period.

"This paper investigated the structure evolution and phase formation ofFe-(11,13,15wt.%)Mn alloy under near-rapid solidification conditions. It is found that the area ratio of equiaxed zone in the Fe-13Mn alloy is the largest. And the primary dendrite arm spacing of Fe-(11,13,15wt.%)Mn alloy increased clearly with increasing distance from the surface. The volume percentage of HCP phase increased with increasing manganese content in the range from 11 pct to 15pct.IntroductionThe developing trend of automobile is the energy conservation, enviromnent protection, light weight, and high security. So the material would be required to the higher strength, higher plasticity and more likely to processing of automotive steel. Fe-Mn based alloys is considered as a potential material to the third generation automobile steel for its high damping performance [1], good mechanical properties [2-3], and high young's modulus [4]. And it is important that metastable HCP phases of Fe-Mn based alloys, which attracts technological interest for theoretical and experimental research [5-6].Metastable materials have been extensively used in the area of iron steels. Among various fabrication methods for high performance materials, rapid solidification is one of most popular ways to produce advanced materials by obtaining metastable phases. The solidification of metals in metastable phases provides access to an extended range of materials properties with novel properties [7]. "Lead free piezoelectric ceramics with high piezoelectric coefficients are in great demand for sensor and actuator applications. Synthesis and characterization study of one such lead free system, barium zirconate titanate - barium calcium titanate [xBZT-(1-x)BCT] (x = 0.5), via solgel method have been carried out. X-ray diffraction (XRD) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM) confirmed the formation of single phase BZT-BCT nanoparticles (<50 nm). The as-synthesized powders were calcined at 1000°C and the powders were pressed into cylindrical pellets. Solid-state sintering of the green pellets at 1550°C for 2 hrs resulted in single phase perovskite structure. Hysteresis loops were obtained which indicates the ferroelectric nature ofBZT-BCT. The bulk ceramic samples with the highest sintered density (~93%) were subjected to electrical poling and the piezoelectric properties ( d33, kp, & i:,) were measured. The structure and piezoelectric properties were investigated and correlated for the given composition of the BZT-BCT system.IntroductionPiezoelectric ceramics are widely used in various sensors and actuators and most of the piezoelectric ceramics, which are presently used, are lead based, which contains at least 60% lead (Pb) by weight. The critical disadvantage of these lead based piezoelectric ceramics is their hazardous effect related to the toxicity of lead, which poses a serious environmental concern starting from their processing to the disposal stage[l]. It is well known that a material to be a good piezoelectric it requires a morphotropic phase boundary (MPB) i.e. the composition induced phase transition between any two ferroelectric phases."

Steel Ladle in Bhilai Steel Plant, SAIL, India, passes through VAD & LF-RH route and this exposes refractory lining to a severe operating conditions. Ladles are lined with in-house manufactured MgO-C refractories. Lining life used to be 35 heats, out of which 18-20 heats were through VAD/LF-RH, hence, ladle availability had become a constraint. Laboratory studies were carried-out to optimize granulometry and composition. Granulometry was developed by adopting Andearssen packing model. A suitable plasiticiser was identified to eliminate inconsistency caused due to variation in resin quality and weather condition. It reduced variation in green bulk density from 6 to 1.3%. Abrasion and slag erosion studies were conducted, which shows that with increase of carbon, abrasion resistance decreases and corrosion resistance improves. Based on these studies, graphite in slag zone was increased from 10 to 12.5% and in metal zone it was reduced to 7.5%. Different process parameters of brick making were optimized to make MgO-C bricks of maximum bulk density with reduced coke porosity. Modified bricks have bulk density of 2.99-3.02 g/cc and coke porosity of 9.5-10.5%. Further, shape of the bricks were changed from side arch to mini keys and thickness was increased from 80 to 100 mm. Mini key bricks are pressed from sides, thus eliminating variation in thickness which is critical dimension for dry joints. These modifications improved average lining life of steel ladles to 64 heats, which includes 37-40 secondary heats. Maximum life obtained is 87 heats.

"Silver is traditionally recovered in base metal smelters (lead and copper), or as a by-product of other precious metals (gold and/or PGM's). This paper presents the results of non-conventional techniques to recover silver from complex materials. The PLATSOL® process has been developed to recover, in one step and without the use of cyanide, base metals (copper, cobalt, nickel) and precious metals (gold, PGM's) from sulphide concentrates too low in grade to enter the mainstream extraction processes. Silver is only partially recovered in solution with gold and the PGM's during the PLATSOL® process. However, the silver minerals are transformed into silver chloride, which can then be recovered from the PLATSOL® residue using conventional techniques. Some South American silver concentrates contain levels of impurity (mostly arsenic) so elevated that the penalties incurred significantly affect the process economics. The present results have shown that a low temperature calcination process transforms the concentrate into a product well suited for traditional recovery treatments. Metallurgical details will be provided, as well as the results of mineralogical studies that helped clarify the process mechanisms.IntroductionSilver occurrences in nature are very diversified, and, therefore, primary silver is produced as a by-product of many base metal and precious metal operations [1], as well as a co-product of most gold ores. However, difficulties can arise when high temperature processes are used for refractory gold ores or copper concentrates, or when the silver concentrate contains impurity elements such as arsenic that trigger high penalties."

"During the motion of molten metal under external non-homogeneous magnetic field the induced electric currents produce Lorentz body forces in the opposite direction to the flow, causing deformation of velocity profile, vortical structures, and adding a pressure drop across the magnetic field. The same Lorentz force acts on the magnet system. We analyse these phenomena in metallurgy, namely, at molten metal pumping, stirring, continuous casting, and in contactless Lorentz force flowmeter (LFF). Experiments with liquid metal alloy, including direct measurements of Lorentz forces, velocities, and flow structure visualization were conducted. Based on this study the industrial prototypes of LFF systems were designed, built, and tested in a secondary aluminium production. A molten metal flow at high temperature (700°C-850°C) can be effectively measured. The LFF technique method allows measuring precisely the volumetric and mass flow rates linked with Lorentz force, and the mass accumulated within production process.IntroductionThe present work demonstrates the development of a non-contact electromagnetic system for measurement of a liquid metal flow. Our approach embodies the Lorentz force velocimetry [1-6] technique which is physically based on a measurement of the force acting on an external magnet system the field of which interacts with the flow. This force is exactly equal to the braking Lorentz force induced in a flowing conducting fluid. In what follows a measurement system based on the Lorentz force velocimetry principle. For monitoring and controlling the production process it is desirable to measure continuously the mean velocity of the liquid metal in order to deduce the mass-flux and volume-flux from it. The form and dimensions of the magnet system are in agreement with geometry of the operating channel. We consider here a version of magnet systems in a composition of permanent magnets.The LFF possesses a number of advantages which make it attractive for the measurement of flows in hot and aggressive melts. The relation between the measured force and the desired volumetric flow rate is often linear (for closed channel or at a constant liquid metal level in open channel). For the converting of the measured force into volumetric and mass flow rate we should know the calibration factor. The calibration factor is independent of the viscosity and density of the liquid metal and depends only on the magnetic field magnitude, the electrical conductivity of the liquid metal and the geometry of the channel in which the liquid metal flows. In aluminium production, for instance, there exists a number of standard alloy compositions having welldefined conductivities for which the calibration factors can thus be tabulated. We consider below consistently effects in liquid metals arising under influencing magnetic field, construction principle of LFF and measurements of metal flows at industrial conditions."

"More and more sweeping environmental regulations initiate research, development and introducing into operation up to date technologies for cleaning off-gas and flue gas generated in various branches of industry and municipal waste treatment. The following systems based on novel types of equipment are shown: thermal and catalytic treatment of waste gases polluted by VOC (Volatile organic compounds) and carbon monoxide (alternatively NOx), catalytic filtration for efficient destruction of PCDD/F (dioxins) and potentially NOx, wet cleaning of flue gases polluted by SO2, HCl and HF with a original type of homogenizer “O-element”, integrated equipment for cleaning waste gases polluted by solid particulates, SO2, HCl, HF and heavy metals (alternatively NOx or PCDD/F). The outstanding features of all equipment mentioned above are low investment and operating costs together with high removing efficiency of pollutants. These units can be used mainly in incineration plants, refineries and other chemical plants. The paper represents a review based on papers published in reputable international journals and a monograph under preparation as well as on experience from industrial applications.IntroductionIn the recent years, more and more emphasis is put on preserving clean environment. One of the most closely monitored objects of general public attention are exhaust gases, containing a number of undesirable compounds like NOx, CO, SO2, HCl, HF, fly ash a PCDD/F. These harmful species are created in chemical processes mainly in the industry, transport and energy sectors. There is therefore a strong impetus for abatement of these harmful pollutants. Sectors of industry are thus subject to emission regulations specific to various types of units. In the framework of increasing demand for a clean environment, the concerned legislation is becoming increasingly strict and requires removal of pollutants by modern methods that would ensure efficient abatement of emissions at reasonable investment and operating costs.Attention is focused chiefly on methods for decreasing harmful emissions from thermal waste treatment facilities processing industrial and municipal waste that may be subsequently applied in other sectors of industry. Units for the thermal treatment of waste not only provide means of its disposal, but may become also important sources of energy, provided that strict emissions limits are satisfied. Figure 1 compares emission limits given by the legislation for municipal waste incinerators and limits for a selection of energy sources with heat capacity up to 50 MW (see EU regulation 200/76/EC). The Figure implies that the values of emission limits for waste incineration are mostly comparable with emissions from the combustion of natural gas. Thanks to the continuing improvements of the methods for removal of harmful pollutants, the emissions from waste incinerators are typically deep below the limits."

"The average consumption of zinc dust for purification of zinc leaching solution is more than 25 kg per tonne of electrolytic zinc. Authors proposed to remove impurities in zinc leaching solution by electrolysis instead of cementation by zinc dust. The effects of copper and arsenic on electrodeposition of cobalt in zinc sulfate solution were examined fundamentally using a potentiostat. It is observed that cobalt is easily deposited on a cathode at potentials under -480mV with arsenic. Mesh cathodes of stainless steel and lead anodes were used in a small electrolytic cell and the electrolyte was circulated through 'the electrodes during the electrolysis. The effect of electrolyte circulating rate , pH, cell temperature, current density, and concentration of copper and arsenious ions on removal of cobalt were studied. Removal of Cd and Ni are also examined.IntroductionCobalt is difficult to remove from a zinc leaching solution by a simple cementation reaction using zinc dust. However, it is easily precipitated by zinc dust with co-addition of arsenious or stibinous oxide and copper ion in practical operations(I), (2), (3). The consumption of zinc dust for purification is 16-152 kg per tonne of electrolytic zinc and 65% of this zinc dust consumption is used for cobalt purification. The average retention time for purification of cobalt is 4.5 hours (1). A more economical process for purification is desired instead of zinc dust. The mechanism of this acceleration effect of copper and arsenious oxide on removal of cobalt are explained by the authorsas follows; a galvanic cell is formed between zinc dust and copper which is precipitated firstly, and cobalt is reduced on copper as Co-As alloy by this galvanic current(2). This assumption was confirmed in experiments using a galvanic cell with a membrane( 4). The following galvanic reactions occur between zinc dust and copper precipitate; on copper cathode,2H+ + 2e -= Hz(g)2Coz+ + 2HAs02 + 6H ++ 10e -= 2CoAs + 4HzOand on zinc anode,Zn = Zn = 2+ 2e –This galvanic current becomes almost zero in a zinc sulfate solution which includes only cobalt and no arsenious oxide, and cobalt is weakly deposited on a copper cathode. Cobalt deposition requiers a high degree of cathodic polarization. However, the galvanic current flows almost constantly in an electrolyte, which includes arsenious oxide, and the cathode potential is kept at about -500mV. Cobalt is precipitated as Co-As on the cathode.The authors assumed that cobalt may be removed by electrolysis at a very low current density instead of zinc dust and the following experiments were carried out. In the first part of this paper, the fundamental experiments using a potentiostat on the behaviour of cobalt in zinc sulfate solution are described. In the second part, the results of the electrolysis are reported. Cobalt is removed by a new type of an electrolytic cell, which was desigoed to <Iccelerate the rate of deposition of cobalt. The removal of cadmium and nickel in a solution which includes cobalt and arsenic are also examined."

"The three dimensional current distribution on the rectangular cathode is predicted using a boundary element method with a linear element of trigonal type. The effect of cell geometry and anode shape on current distribution is simulated. Calculated results compare well with experimental results. The proper combination of anode size and distance between electrodes increase the current uniformity.The importance of electrodeposition as a fabrication technology in the electronics industry is large and growing. The main advantages of this wet processing method, in comparison to other dry processing methods, lie in its high yield, rapid processing and low cost. In nearly every application of electrodeposition the pursuit of deposit uniformity, especially thickness uniformity, has been technically imperative. The thickness uniformity of the deposit depends largely on the current distribution over the cathode. The current distribution is primarily determined by the geometrical characteristics of the electrodes and the cell. Also the polarization at the electrode surface and the mass transfer affect the current distribution.The current distribution is an important consideration for those involved in designing electrochemical systems and electroplating systems in particular. Although it is important, the common practice in industry is to use trial and error method to design the cell that optimize the uniformity of current distributions in electroplating. The purpose of this paper is to illustrate the useof boundary element method to predict three-dimensional current distribution in rectangular cell.The calculation of the current distribution is possible by various numerical techniques, which include the finite difference method (FDM)1, the finite element method (FEM)2, and the boundary element method (BEM)3,4. These methods of the numerical calculation have various problems, respectively, but the BEM is considered to be the most efficient. This is due to the fact that the BEM has the advantage of solving field equations only on the surface of a calculation domain. A good comparison between the BEM and the FEM for the secondary current distribution in a Hull cell was made by Matlosz et al.5The fundamentals on the theory of current distribution in electroplating are well-established in the literature by a number of authors.6, 7, 8 However, a small fraction of these works have been specially addressed to three-dimensional analysis, and, mostly thel·10 have focused on the problem qualitatively rather than quantitatively.Extending the previous work to three-dimension, we developed the program for the quantitative calculation of 3-dimensional current distribution using a boundary element method with a linear element of trigonal type. Integrals with singularity from the fundamental solution have been analytically computed and it is shown in detail in the Iiterature11. This paper deals with the three dimensional current distribution for the electrode position of copper in a cubic type cell and the effect of anode shape, size and the distance between electrodes on current distribution is studied."

"Both COD and TOC can characterize organic pollution of coking wastewater. In theory, there is a linear correlation between these two indicators. After continuous monitoring TOC and COD of coking waste water, linear regression relationship between of these to indicators was studied with the use of mathematical statistics. And conversion equation between these two indicators was established, and using t-test method for significance testing. The results showed that the linear relationship of COD and TOC was significant. Also interval estimation of equation slope and intercept were given in the condition of 95% confidence level. A linear regression equation established can be used to indirectly convert TOC to COD with high precision and accuracy.IntroductionBoth chemical oxygen demand (COD) and total organic carbon (TOC) are measure of the degree of characterization for organic pollution of water bodies. The current COD standard analytical methods is Potassium dichromate titration method [1] . there are some disadvantages in this method, such as only part of organic matter in the water bodies being oxidated, the refluxed steps, a long time needed for each measurement, high cost. It is the most important that sulfuric acid silver and mercury sulfate reagents used in the measurement may easily lead to secondary pollution. In contrast, the measurement of TOC is by the method of combustion or Photocatalytic Oxidation. The result could be easily got from the instrument. There are some advantages in this way, such as easy operation, short time and little expenses for each measurement and no secondary pollution 121• In addition, the measurement of TOC has higher degree of precision and accuracy than the measurement of COD both in the determination of calibration standards and actual samples. The meaning and contrast of TOC and COD are listed in the table 1."

"Treatment of industrial waste materials is created serious problem in Egypt. Aluminium sludge is generated as a by-product from aluminium household industry which contains significantly high alumina content exceeding 90%. This by-product randomly disposed and creates serious environment problems to locate community. To develop the treatment process of this material, the recovery of high purity alumina and identify the potential application is being the primary objective, This paper represents the recovery process of alumina process waste sludge High purity alumina material <99.8% aluminium oxide with originate particle size 0.125-0.420mm and apparent density 0.39g/cm3 was obtained with a specific surface area 139m2/g. Alumina produced was modified by cerium oxide doped alumina. The catalytic activity and selectivity was investigated in conversion of iso-propanol via dehydrogenation reaction yielding only acetone indicating an excellent selectivity the dehydrogenation. The presence of 10% CeO2 increase in the catalytic activity of 82% for the originated alumina. Introduction Approximately 20 thousand tons of aluminium waste produced in Egypt in 2006 with increasing amounts expected in succeeding years. A part of this waste contains organics impurities which coexisted with aluminium waste as a result of manufacture final aluminium products, waste usually content <1 to 2 wt% of organic carbon. It's generally admitted that the organic species are present in the form of lubricant oils used in rolling and pressing equipments for aluminium sheet. Both industry and government face possible high-cost disposal problems that more magnified by large volume of waste produced. The alumina recovery leachable study conduct in this paper had the following objectives: 1- Develop a process that can provide an environmentally acceptable residue and also recover the available alumina. 2- Evaluate the alumina produced in terms of grade and catalytic application."

"In the present study, different types of cathode ray tube (CRT) glasses were examined by sequential extraction combined with TCLP to provide possible explanations for how Pb and Ba leach out from the waste CRT glasses and to give possible reasons for why they leach out. Sequential extraction results showed that Pb and Ba in the CRT glasses dominanfly presented as the residual fraction. The exchangeable fractions of Pb and Ba were extremely low, less than 0.01 % of the total content, but they were higher than those required by the regulation limits, 5 and 100 mg/L for Pb and Ba, respectively. TCLP tests of the original CRT glasses and CRT glasses residues after each step of sequential extraction demonstrated that the extremely high leaching toxicity of CRT glasses mainly caused by its exchangeable and carbonate fractions of Pb and Ba.IntroductionIn recent years, the amount of cathode ray tube (CRT) contained monitors or TV sets in the market were sharply reduced, since they were substituted by novel and better electronic and electric equipments such as LCD and PDP, leaving huge amount of end-of-life CRTs. 50-85% of the total weight of this kind of computer monitor or a TV set is glass[1,2], which was classified to three categories according to their chemical compositions: black & white glass (BW), color panel glass (CP) and color funnel glass (CF)[3]. In order to provide shielding from X-rays generated during the picture projection process, lead, barium and strontium oxides were used in the glass. In general, a color CRT contains 1.6-3.2 kg of lead . Therefore, these glasses have attracted wide and tense attention due to the potential risk to the environment and human health."

"The electro-deoxidation process for ilmenite concentrate in molten salt was studied by cyclic voltammetry and AC impedance spectroscopy. The results from cyclic voltammetry are consistent with those of AC impedance spectroscopy. The results showed that the electro-deoxidation process for ilmenite concentrate consists of two steps. In the first step, Fe is reduced from the ilmenite concentrate. The second reaction is the decomposition of TiCh. CaTiCh is an intermediate product. At low voltage, the electrochemical reaction is the main step. With the increasing potential, the diffusion of ion is the main rate controlling step for the electro-deoxidation of FeTiO3.IntroductionTitania and titanium-rich products are mainly prepared from ilmenite concentrates (FeTi03), which contain about 40%-60% T1O2 after ore dressing and other physical or chemical processes [1]. At present, the main methods to prepare titania are the sulfuric acid process and the chloride process, but the sulfuric acid process consumes a large amount of sulfuric acid and the materials requirements for the chloride process are strict [2], Since the Electro-Deoxidization in Molten Salt (FFC) method was put forward in 2000, many researchers have successfully extracted the metal and alloys by this method, such as Ti, Cr, Tb, Si, Al-Si, TiV, FeTi, etc. [3-7], FeTi alloy is a typical hydrogen storage material, and because of its favorable properties, the preparation of FeTi alloy has become a hot research topic [7-9]. However, the mechanism of electro-deoxidization has not been studied thoroughly [10-11]. Therefore, in this study, the electro-deoxidation process for titanium concentrate was investigated by electrochemical methods, and the study makes a contribution to improving the current efficiency of the electrolysis."

"In this study, zinc and lead recovery from zinc plant leach residue obtained from Çinkur using hydrometallurgical methods have been investigated by laboratory scale experiments. Considering more than one million tons leach residue (LR) rich in Zn (12.43%) and Pb (15.51%) in the stockyard and environmentally hazardous, it is essentially necessary to process Çinkur LR. Zinc and lead have been recovered in two main stages. As a first step, Çinkur LR was releached by using hot sulphuric acid for zinc recovery. About 72 % Zn was recovered by using 150 g/l H2SO4 at 95 oC in 2 hours with a pulp density of 200 g/l. Secondly, for lead recovery brine (NaCl) leaching tests were performed on the secondary Çinkur LR obtained after acid leaching process. In brine leaching while lead recoveries up to 95 % could be attained at a low pulp density, the maximum recovery obtained was 84.9 % at a high pulp density (200 g/l) with 300 g/l NaCl concentration in 10 minutes at 95 oC. Introduction Zinc and lead have been known and used by humans since ancient times and also they are important nonferrous metals [1]. Zinc and lead have different properties thus they are used in various application areas, ranging from automobiles to construction, from batteries to textile. Zinc and lead deposits are widely distributed in the Earth’s crust. The principal ore mineral for zinc is zinc sulfide, Sphalerite (ZnS), and lead sulphide, Galena (PbS), is the main source of lead in the world [2].Although zinc is generally produced from sulphidic ores (ZnS) or concentrates by Roast – Leach – Electrowinning (RLE) in the world, in Turkey, zinc production is based on zinc carbonate ores (ZnCO3), and at the Çinkur plant zinc was produced from zinc carbonate from its establishment to 1997 due to high reserves of zinc carbonate in that region. Çinkur is the only plant in Turkey that produces Zn from primary ore containing ZnCO3 by Waelz – Leach - Electrowinning route [3]. However, due to depletion of local high grade ores, oxidized ore concentrates were imported from Iran after 1997, until this plant was shut down. Therefore, there are two different leach residues (LR) which are Turkish LR (TLR) and Iranian LR (ILR) in Çinkur stockpiles. It has been estimated that the total amount of leach residue is more than one million tons of which the major part is Turkish leach residue (TLR)."

"Industrial sustainability looks to improve material and energy efficiencies, product quality and variety, and productivity within an industrial zone, thus pursuing the long-term sustainable development of the region. This paper introduces a systems-based modeling methodology, which provides industrial leaders with the ability to evaluate future production options to determine the path with the highest positive impact on both their own sustainability and the sustainability of the overall industrial zone. A comprehensive study on sustainable development of an auto-manufacturing focused industrial zone under uncertainty is illustrated. Introduction Sustainable development refers to a continuous process of improvements that must be followed in order to achieve a state of sustainability. In its most general form, a widely accepted definition of sustainable development was identified in the Brundtland Report as “development that meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs” [1]. Sustainability will occur when the material and social conditions can be maintained or improved for human health and the environment over time without exceeding the ecological capabilities that support them [2]. An industrial zone is defined as a geographic area comprised of a network of industrial sectors, each composed of a number of entities. Such a zone is highly integrated and complex, and contains numerous uncertainties due to each industry’s extreme dependencies on its suppliers and customers throughout the product supply chain. In the context of an industrial zone, sustainable development refers to the continuous process of advancements in the zone, and the entities that comprise it, creating more value, wealth, and profits (economically viable dimension), providing environmentally benign products with less raw material consumption and waste generation (environmentally compatible dimension), and collaboration and a direct relationship among all involved in the supply chain, i.e. the corporations, employees, suppliers, investors, communities, customers, etc. (socially responsible dimension). These are the triple bottom lines of industrial sustainability. In order for economic, environmental, and social sustainability improvements to be successfully implemented within an industrial zone, the industrial decision makers must possess system-wide analysis abilities. The analysis of the sustainable development of an industrial zone involves decisions at the local, regional, or national levels, which are complex and involves handling of ill-defined parameters with a high degree of uncertainty due to the imperfect understanding of the underlying issues [3]. This work focuses strictly on the uncertainties in future zone planning and a method and a scenario based approach that can be used to evaluate the sustainable development of an industrial zone among these uncertainties."
