The developed radiometric method of particle system analysis has been applied to investigate the bulk properties of particles precipitated from solutions. The nature and principles of the method applied are described briefly, and some possible models in the field of fine colloid particles precipitation discussed. Changes in radionuclide distribution were followed during the solid phase formation and the data were used to calculate changes in bulk composition of colloid precipitates. The radiometric data show interesting phenomena closely connected with the characteristic of bulk particles. The measured radiometric data are highly reproducible, the applied methods have proved to be sensitive, and the developed techniques have been tested by various standard procedures.

The Kerr Addison process involves the cyanidation, flotation, and roasting of graphitic gold ore. The grinding and treatment section of the present mill has at the present time a capacity of 1400 stpd and the precipitation section has a capacity of 6000 stpd. The grind is maintained at 80%, -200 mesh, and a gold recovery of 92% is obtained in the cyanidation circuit. With flotation and roasting, the overall gold recovery is increased to 98%.

Mineral fillers are relatively inert chemically under the conditions of use but have physical properties* that modify those of the materials in which they are incorporated. The mineral fillers considered in this article are asbestos, barite, clays, diatomite, crushed limestone, limestone whiting and lime, mica, silica, talc and soapstone, and pyrophyllite. Slate and stone, other than limestone and its derivatives, are excluded because, even though used in large quantities, they are exceptionally low-cost materials generally produced close to the area where they are used.

A method was developed to quantify the three mineral species, sphalerite, galena, and pyrite in seven concentrator products. Intermineral effects were studied and a statistical analysis was undertaken to assess the accuracy and reproducibility of the method. The method is both rapid and suitable for plant control purposes. A first step towards using advanced control and optimization techniques at Kaiser Aluminum's Baton Rouge Plant has been the decision to utilize digital process control equipment exclusively throughout the plant. This paper describes the philosophy and strategy which has been used to successfully implement this program for both existing plant facilities and plant expansions. Some of the problems that have been encountered include system selection, vendor support, soft- ware development, system security and system reliability. How these problems arose, were overcome and how they can be prevented in future projects is discussed. A key element of the success has been the organization of the technical, engineering and maintenance efforts and also training has been found to be extremely important. Finally, the effect of these experiences upon present thinking is discussed.

Aggregated models of a bank of flotation cells have frequently been used, assuming that a single-cell model can be used for control and estimation purposes. In this paper we investigate the feasibility of this approach, and show that single-cell aggregated models may very well be used in order to estimate the aggregated net flotation rate constants of the bank.
