Este trabalho tem como objetivo investigar, através da Espectroscopia UV-Vis, os diferentes estados de oxidação da Polianilina (PAni) obtida pela síntese química, através da reação da anilina em meio ácido e persulfato de amônio como agente oxidante, sob agitação constante e baixa temperatura. A caracterização da condutividade elétrica foi determinada através da técnica de medidas de 4 pontas. Foi possível verificar a obtenção de um polímero com características condutoras, através da observação, nos Espectros UV-Vis, dos picos que caracterizam o sal esmeraldina, sendo este o estado de oxidação da PAni que apresenta propriedades condutoras. Além disso, conseguiu-se obter valores de condutividade elétrica relevantes para confirmar a obtenção da PAni condutora.

Assam cancer care foundation (ACCF) proposed the construction of hospitals and related facilities across 18 locations in the state of Assam-India. Tezpur is one among the 18 locations of Assam with high seismic risk. The strata at the site are comprised of mostly fine silty sands of lower SPT- N values. The water table is also encountered and ranging from 1 m to 2 m below EGL. Since the site lies in seismic zone V as per IS 1893, detailed liquefaction analysis is carried out for all five boreholes and indicates that soil is liquefiable and ground improvement is inevitable up to a depth of 15 m below existing ground level. To mitigate the liquefaction potential and enhance the seismic performance of the soil, ground improvement using stone columns by Wet top feed Vibro-replacement method is proposed. Also, the differential settlements can be avoided effectively under the raft foundation with Vibro Stone Columns. In this paper, field test validation results such as Pre and post-SPTs and ECPTs to access the extent of ground improvement, along with other information adopted in this project presented.

DURING recent years, there has been a material increase in the use of ferrophosphorus in the steel industry. It has been observed, when rolling sheets, that those made of Southern iron did not have to be rolled at as high a temperature as the others and, consequently, did not stick together. The reason was found to be the phosphorus content of Southern iron. It was therefore thought that an addition of phosphorus to sheet steel of other than Southern origin would give the same result as the use of Southern iron. At first, this addition was made by intro¬ducing phosphate rock in the blast furnace and reducing it together with the iron ore; but, because of the necessity for only small quantities of this grade of iron, the process was not satisfactory. The manufacture of ferrophosphorus was then introduced, so that additions might be made to the open-hearth furnace or ladle. Ferrophosphorus was first manufactured in the blast furnace. This method, however, can only economically produce a grade of product up to about 20 per cent. To produce a higher grade, it would be necessary to charge a larger proportion of phosphate-bearing material; and as the rate of absorption by the iron is low, there would be an increased loss of phosphorus oxides. This feature makes the production of a higher grade ferrophosphorus in the blast furnace uneconomical. The use of high-grade ferrophosphorus in the steel requires a smaller addition and involves, besides the economies in handling, an additional economy in transportation. The alloy with a higher percentage than 20 per cent. can be made only in the electric furnace. In the ordinary operation of the electric furnace in the production of ferrophosphorus, an alloy may be produced containing 26 per cent. phosphorus; this is the limit, for it does not seem possible to produce a higher phosphorus alloy even if large excesses of phosphatic materials are used. The reasons for the difficulty in raising this percentage of phosphorus are not known. In August of 2013 the USDA Forest Service (USFS) blasted bedrock at the base of a waterfall in Kanalku Creek within the Kootznoowoo Wilderness Area on Admiralty Island in the Tongass National Forest located in Southeast Alaska. The purpose of the blasting was to widen and deepen a plunge pool at the base of a waterfall complex considered to be a partial barrier to migrating sockeye salmon. Drilling and blasting to remove 12 to 15 cubic yards of rock occurred over a two day period.

"Search Minerals is currently exploring the Port Hope Simpson (PHS) Rare Earth Element District in southeastern Labrador, Canada. The Foxtrot Rare Earth Element (REE) Project in the PHS District has a 43-101 resource estimate consisting of 3,410,000 tonnes of Indicated Mineral Resources and 5,850,000 tonnes of Inferred Mineral Resources. The indicated and inferred resources contain 1.07% and 0.98% total rare earth element oxide (including yttrium), respectively. The dysprosium and neodymium grades are particularly attractive at 218 ppm Dy2O3 and 1687 ppm Nd2O3 for the indicated resources and 208 ppm Dy2O3 and 1494 ppm Nd2O3 for the inferred resources. The mineralization remains open along strike and at depth and is only one of a number of attractive exploration targets in the Port Hope Simpson area. The REE minerals fergusonite and allanite are present. The ore can be beneficiated by gravity, magnetic separation and flotation to a recovery of +80% for the individual REE. Acid bake and water leaching may be used to extract REE into solution for subsequent purification and recovery. The extraction range for single stage leach tests were 91-96% for Nd, 84-87% for Tm and 92-94 % for Dy with modest acid consumptions. INTRODUCTIONSearch Minerals Inc. (Search) is exploring the 100% owned Port Hope - Simpson District in Labrador, Canada for rare earth elements (REE). This District is approximately 135 km by 12 km in size, and is highly prospective for heavy and light rare earth elements. A total of 11 REE prospects have been discovered in the District to date, including the Foxtrot. In addition, Search is exploring in the 100% owned Henley Harbour region and has joint ventures with Quest Rare Minerals in the Strange Lake region, and with Great Western Minerals Group in the Red Wine complex, all in Labrador. These exploration locations are illustrated in the Figure 1. The focus of this paper is the investigation of the mineralogy and processing of Foxtrot REE materials. The Foxtrot resource falls within the claims held by Search in the Port Hope Simpson REE District. The infrastructure available at Foxtrot is excellent with a deep water port, air strip and road and power infrastructure at Port Hope Simpson. Over $7 Million has been spent to date on exploration and development of the District. The Foxtrot has been explored using prospecting geochemical methods, geophysics (airborne and ground), channel sampling of surface outcrops, mapping and three phases of drilling (18,934 m total)."

ABSTRACT: Despite many years of practical applications in mineral processing plants, the potential of column flotation has still not been fully exploited. The challenge in measuring some key variables is certainly an important contributing factor to this situation. Reliable online measurement of variables, such as the froth depth, bias, gas hold-up, frother concentration, bubble surface area flux, and bubble size distribution, provides opportunities for the application of various advanced control strategies and real-time optimization based on an economic criterion. For several years, Université Laval’sLaboratoire d’observation et d’optimisation des procédés researchers have been working on these opportunities. This paper describes the most recent advances and current research trends.

This investigation was undertaken to assess the feasibility of processing an extensive deposit of iron ore near Palisades, Eureka County, Nev., previously penalized for high phosphorus content. The experiments described indicate a satisfactory accomplishment of objective. Chemical treatment will permit a high-phosphorus iron ore to be used. Leaching with acid solution effectively lowers the phosphorus content with a [gligible] loss of iron. The use of hydrochloric acid is preferred because [ ] does not contaminate the ore and the cost is lower. Minus-1/2-inch ore was satisfactorily leached in 24 hours, minus-1/4-inch ore, in 8 hours, and minus-10-mesh ore, in 3 hours. About 40 pounds of acid per ton of ore was consumed in each instance.

During the fall of 1943 the Bureau of Mines put down four churn-drill holes totaling 435 feet of bore at the McGregor zinc lead mine near Potosi, Washington County, Mo., after the property had been examined by John Soule, an engineer of the Bureau, in the fall of 1942. A small production of lead and barite ore had been maintained at this property for many Years from shallow deposits in residual clays. A few shafts had penetrated the underlying dolomites and exposed a network of narrow fractures containing galena, sphalerite, barite, and marcasite. The drilling by the Bureau tested conditions at depths ranging from 80 to 130 feet. This report sets forth the data resulting from the work.

"A key component of any geometallurgical investigation involves being able to predict element or mineral recoveries from simplified input data such as bulk chemistry and/or mineralogy. This relies on the metallurgist having access to accurate information regarding the chemistry of the ore and gangue minerals as well as the likely impact on processing/extraction caused by the impurities (present either as gangue or as substitutional impurities). In this study the chemical properties of two commercially important uranium minerals, brannerite (U4+Ti2O6), and uraninite (U4+O2), were characterised using X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and electron probe microanalysis (EPMA). Significant levels of impurities were present in both samples with the uranium minerals deviating significantly from their ideal chemical formulae. Differences in chemistry were due to: cationic substitution decay of the uranium isotopes into radiogenic lead and other daughter products mixed uranium oxidation states post-depositional alteration.As well, the brannerite sample showed evidence of significant radiation-induced metamictisation. Leach tests to measure the ease of extraction of uranium from both samples were conducted over a wide range of conditions (temperature, acid concentration and oxidant concentration). For uraninite, the lower U dissolution rates observed in the natural sample compared to a synthetic UO2 sample were directly attributed to the presence of impurities. For brannerite, significant metamictisation of the natural sample led to enhanced U extraction rates compared to a heat treated fully crystalline sample. This study highlights the importance of detailed mineralogical characterisation studies in any uranium process mineralogy investigation as the compositional, textural and microstructural aspects of the main uranium phases present will likely play an important role in any process to extract uranium.CITATION:Ram, R, Charalambous, F, McMaster, S, Pownceby, M I, Tardio, J and Bhargava, S, 2013. Future challenges to the mining industry are many and include increasing requirements from regulatory agencies and communities, more competitive commodity pricing, increasing competition for power and water supplies, deeper mines and increasing number sulfide ore bodies requiring dealing with Acid Rock Drainage (ARD) controls and finally larger mine waste structures increasing consequences of potential failures. In this sense, the paper deals with approaches that can, and have been, used in planning the overall project and tailings facilities locations and layouts. It also discusses approaches used to achieve better planning, by considering an integrated milling, concentration, and tailings process, rather than considering tailings and the Tailings Storage Facility (TSF) as an independent entity.

Mineral activity in Ontario represents an annual production in excess of $4 billion. The Ontario government encourages the mining industry to undertake mineral development through grant programs and incentives offered by mineral resource taxation. Computers are playing an increasingly important role in improving productivity in the administration of incentive programs and the Mining Tax Act in Ontario. This has meant speedier processing of grant applications and tax returns which is resulting in a streamlined approach to incentives and taxation in Ontario. The use of computers has resulted in significant contributions to key areas of concern such as assessment of mining tax returns, analysis of the changes, if any, to the Mining Tax Act and modeling of the Ontario Mineral Exploration Program (OMEP). Implementation of state-of-the-art technology such as Local Area Networks (LAN's), fourth generation languages and integrated micro-mainframe information processing has resulted in improved productivity as well as lower costs. As a result, the respective services provided to the mineral industry by these two programs are now delivered in an efficient and cost-effective manner utilizing the latest available computer technology.

"The most common technique for selection of grinding equipment is the Bond method implying determination of a ball mill work index (BWi). The method is perfect for greenfield projects where a ball mill must be sized to grind an ore to 80% passing 75-100 µm. Finer grinding will require application of specific correction factors to a standard equation since initially the method was not designated for sizing of fine (minus 75 µm) grinding mills. Significant issues are related to selection of grinding equipment for treatment of originally fine materials when the standard procedure is not applicable. In 1984, Levin published his special technique titled as “A proposed test for the determination of the grindability of fine materials”, where he offered to use the standard Bond ball mill for determination of a specific grinding energy. However, this method did not meet with wide recognition. In 2017, Institute TOMS under guidance of JKMRC’s specialists performed a testwork aimed at verification of a new universal technique for determination of grindability of initially fine materials. An object was to test three aged tailings samples for the subsequent modelling of comminution circuit and evaluation of potential throughput of the existing ball mills with final grind size of ?80 passing 53 µm. In parallel with development of the universal approach, TOMS’ specialists carried out tests according to the Levin method in order to compare the data resulted from two methods. The results from lab ball mill testing on three products following the alternative test methods are presented in this paper along with the testing methodology and results analysis. Specific energy was calculated for regrinding of the materials to the required size. Difference of the examined methods and assessment of their applicability for sizing of full-scale equipment are explored."

"The removal of elemental sulfur from leach residues derived from massive sulfide concentrates via hydrometallurgical routes has been demonstrated in a laboratory setting by converting water-insoluble sulfur to water-soluble polysulfides. The approach was applied to leach residue from Vale's nickel hydromet demonstration plant in Argentia, Newfoundland, which contained significant amounts of elemental sulfur. This technique offers an alternative treatment protocol for residues with a sulfur component not amenable to standard flotation/hot filtration processes. The practical considerations of a proposed flow sheet will be discussed including the impact of other sulfur species (e.g. thiosulfate and sulfides) and key process variables. INTRODUCTIONPresently, large scale elemental sulfur extraction from hydrometallurgical leach residue is performed by Teck Resources using a process of sulfur flotation followed by hot filtration (Chalkley et al., 1993). As mentioned, the technique proves viable for residues derived from specific concentrations - in this case zinc - whose residues constituency is primarily elemental sulfur itself. However, problems arise when this constituency is altered as happens when, for example, a mine containing one particular concentrate is mixed or replaced with a differing concentrate from a second mine. Such cases can often strain the effectiveness of current sulfur removal processes (D'Odorico, 2004). If hydrometallurgical residue containing elemental sulfur cannot be effectively treatment by flotation, the residue is stored subaqueously as is the case in some 'grass roots' hydrometallurgical plants (those not coupled with smelting operations). Hydrometallurgical processing of concentrates involving pressure leaching is becoming increasingly common throughout the mining world, the genesis of which can be found in research performed by Sherritt in Fort Saskatchewan since the 1950’s (Ozberk et al., 1995).The investigation of elemental sulfur removal by means other than flotation includes the uses of sulfide salts (NH3S or Na2S) effecting the conversion of hydrophobic elemental sulfur to hydrophilic polysulfides. The work of Kunda et al. (1974) and Olper et al. (2007) shows that elemental sulfur can be quantitatively removed from hydrometallurgical leach residue via the formation of a mixture of polysulfides."

A method of predicting uranium extraction rate in underground bacterial leaching of as-blasted ore has been developed. The method is based on the hypothesis that extraction is directly proportional to the volume of a piece of ore that is penetrated by the leaching agent, and that each piece of ore, regardless of size, has been penetrated radially from the external surface to the same depth at a given leaching time. Consequently, given an initial size and assay distribution, extraction should be predictable for a given penetration. Two laboratory bacterial leaching tests under simulated stope leaching conditions were carried out for a periods of 89 and 96 weeks. On completion, the residual ore was screened and analyzed. The information so obtained was employed to provide an elapsed time base for the penetration model, from which predictions of future extraction were made. The finding of solubilized uranium trapped within apparently sol id ore pieces was unexpected. However, it is not recoverable except after crushing, and hence does not affect calculations of underground leaching .

This paper discusses the potential role of underground space and tunnelling in urban planning in Australia. The paper gives examples of the infrastructure and commercial applications of underground space which have been effectively used overseas but have been slow to be considered as a part of urban planning in Australia. In particular, the paper looks at underground quarrying and underground commercial development and their potential use in the urban environment. Existing sites and potential sites for quarrying and/or commercial use have been classified using a system developed by the author. Underground quarrying may provide some solutions for planning problems involving sand and aggregate supplies, waste disposal and other uses. Commercial development involving underground excavation may be accepted if the cost of underground commercial development can be shown to be equivalent to the cost of above ground development. The paper concludes that one role of the underground construction industry is to promote tunnelling and underground space amongst architects, town planners and planning decision-makers. The Australian Underground Construction and Tunnelling Association (AUCTA) and the Australian Society for Trenchless Technology (ASTT) should be instrumental in actively promoting the use of underground space in society.

Future ore reserves of major gold producers in North America and elsewhere will consist of refractory gold ores. About 60 % of the current U.S. gold production is mined in Nevada. Several of the large gold operations in this state indicate that 40 to 90 % of their future ore feeds will contain refractory gold. To compound problems, average head grades for refractory U.S. gold ores have fallen from 8 - 9 g/mt to about 4 g/mt by 1991. In Latin America, 52 % of the gold operations will require milling for optimal recovery. Deeper reserves are, like in North America, refractory. Particularly in hard, (semi)refractory sulfide ores, many operations may experience substantial decreases of gold recov­ery. For example, Martins et al. (1991) report that at an Austra­lian mine, sulfide ore treatment led to 4 - 10 % lower gold reco­veries as the work index increased from 8 kWh/t to 14 kWh/t and the grind coarsened. Many refractory ores should actually be classified as semirefractory since a fine sulfide fracturing and liberation would make 80 - 90 % of the gold cyanide leachable. However, conventional comminution is often prohibitively expensive for these ore types.

Mechanical sampling from conveyors has historically been a staple in the iron ore industry when information related to chemistry, sizing and moisture is required. In order to comply with ISO 3082:2009, samples can be taken either on a mass or time basis provided no bias is introduced by periodical variation in quality or quantity. With the introduction of mechanical sample carousels, you also have the opportunity to collect samples on a mass or time basis. In order to optimise automatic sample stations in a changing production environment, BHP Billiton Iron Ore (BHPBIO) has developed a simulation model that enables the various combinations of mass–mass, mass–time, time–time and time–mass to be investigated.The sample station model can utilise actual (variable) feed rates to achieve high resolution and enables the simulation of sample size variation. Cutter speeds and other settings can then be adjusted to better optimise the performance of the sample station with regards to optimal sample size as well as ensuring the sample station is in compliance with ISO 3082. The model can also assist process engineers in adjusting settings to better optimise the sample station and reduce unwanted events such as blockages. The model can be easily modified to conform to various sample station designs. [In the course of the investigation the Bureau of Mines is carrying on to determine the causes, behavior, and control of mine fires, the detection of incipient heating underground in the mines and above ground in refuse banks has received consideration. A report has been puplished5/ describing apparatus and tests made on anthracite to determining the amount and composition of the oxidation products when normal dry air was passed through it at temperatures varying from 100° to 350° C. These tests showed that the amount of evolved gases and their relative prorortions varied with the temperature. From: these results, graphs were prepared by which `he temperature at which the coal was oxidized could 'be estimated, thus giving a possible means of detecting incipient heating.]

"With the increase of mining depths, deep-seated coal seams face threats from high ground stresses, high gas pressures, high gas content, and low seam permeability, which significantly increase the likelihood of coal and gas outbursts. Challenges continue to grow in coalbed methane (CBM) extraction fields, especially for short-distance gassy multiple-seams. Research has proved that the most effective way to increase coal seam permeability is to decrease the ground stress. Protective seam mining technology is a surrounding rock control technology, which can effectively reduce the ground stress and increase the permeability of the protected coal seam. In this paper, we try to use upper protective seam mining technology to simultaneously extract coal and gas. Findings are based on a FLAC3D simulation of stress variation during the mining of the No. 12 coal seam in the Daxing coal mine, Tiefa Coalfield, China. Results indicate that, after mining the upper protective seam, the pressure-relief effects of the rock mass generated three belts and five zones below the protective seam, providing the space and time for gas pre-extraction engineering. Within the protected area, the numerical simulation indicates that the stress of the No. 13/14 coal seam reduces 95.84% and 88.25% respectively, while the expansion deformation of the protective seams reach 6.87 ‰ and 6.70 ‰ respectively, which demonstrate that the protective mining technology can provide a significant pressure-relief effect to the outburst-prone coal seam. Combining stress relief in this manner with pressure-relief from engineered gas drainage (performed by crossing boreholes from the floor rock roadway) applied before the mining of the protective seam, it would not only be beneficial to CBM drainage but also can reduce the gas outburst risk of the protected seams.INTRODUCTION Internationally, since France used protective seam mining technology to control coal and gas outburst in 1939, it has been promoted and applied in many countries (?????, 1966). Since 1958, China has taken the mining test and engineering practice of protective seam mining technology in the Beipiao, Tianfu, Nantong, Zhongliangshan, Songzao, Huainan, Huaibei, and other coalfields (Yu, 1992). Long-term theoretical research and mining practice of outbursts and dangerous coal seams show that protective seam mining technology is the most effective, safest, and most economical outburst prevention measure (Cheng, Fu, and Yu, 2009; Hu et al., 2008; Cheng and Yu, 2007). Under the condition of high gas content coal seams, the safety and efficiency of simultaneous extraction of coal and gas can be realized through a reasonable mining sequence and an effective gas extraction method (Cheng and Yu, 2003). The in situ stress distribution of the protective seam (No. 1 coal seam) and protected seam (No. 2 coal seam) during protective seam mining in the Haishiwan coalfield formation (Figure 1) (Li et al., 2014). A comparison of the stress and displacement (five zones and three belts) of the rock mass below the protective seam, and in a multiple-seam context in the Dalong Mine, is shown in Figure 2 (Jiang et al., 2015). After mining protection coal in a close-distance seam group, the small spacing between the coal seams causes the protective coal and the protected coal between part of the rock to crack through each other until the protective layer of gob is through the area. This provides a desorption of gas to the protective layer of the mining space channel, making the coal seam permeability increase to several hundred times and improving the gas discharge capacity (Zhai, 2008)."
