"A novel carbonaceous immobilizing agent for heavy metal contaminated soil was prepared from rice straw using sulfur immersion and pyrolysis, and the lead immobilization in artificial contaminated soils using sulfur-impregnated carbonaceous material was estimated. The rice straws were cut to 1 cm pieces, and then immersed in 0.1 - 1 M K2S solution for 0 - 24 h to prepare sulfur-immersed materials. The immersed-materials were heated at 400 oC for 1 h in nitrogen gas to produce the sulfur-impregnated carbonaceous material by pyrolysis. The abilities of the product to immobilize lead from aqueous solution were examined to obtain the product with high lead immobilization ability. With increasing K2S concentration, the immobilization ability of the product for lead gradually increases and then above 0.5 M K2S those are almost constant, while 15 min is sufficient for the immersed time to obtain the product with high lead immobilization ability. The product prepared from material immersed in more than 0.5 M K2S solution for less than 15 min has a maximum immobilization ability for lead ion. The lead immobilization using the sulfur-impregnated product is sustainable due to the formation of leadhillite [Pb4SO4(CO3)2(OH)2] and anglesite [PbSO4]. The product can immobilize lead ion in various artificial lead contaminated soils. By mixing artificial lead contaminated soil with the sulfur-impregnated product, the eluted solution became neutral, and the eluted concentrations of lead ion dropped below the Japanese elution standard for soil.INTRODUCTION Soil contamination with heavy metals is a worldwide problem. Accumulation of heavy metals in soils affect soil ecology, agricultural productivity, quality of agricultural products, water resources, and serious health problems for human and animal (Raicevic, et al., 2005). In the United States, for example, approximately 63 % of the sites on the National Priority List (NPL) for the treatment of contaminated soils are contaminated by metals, and lead is the most common metal, found at 15 % of the sites. In Japan, according to a report by the Ministry of Environment, 43 % of the contaminated sites that exceed the environmental quality standards are contaminated by lead compounds. Soil contamination by lead compounds is also prevalent in other developed and developing countries where lead compounds are used extensively in industrial activities without careful contamination management. Lead is a ubiquitous heavy metal pollutant in soils due to their use widely. The primary sources of Pb contamination include industrial activities such as mining, smelting of metals, and the use of Pb-containing products such as paints, lead-acid batteries, bullets, gasoline and pesticides (Cao, et al., 2009). It can damage human nervous (especially children) and reproductive systems (ATSDR, 2007). The high concentration of Pb in the soil poses risks to human and animal health by the leaching of metals from the soil into water and the consumption of edible plants growth in the contaminated soil. Therefore, proper remediation is necessary to reduce metal availability in soil for protecting human health."

It is customary to use more than one stage of flotation to obtain an acceptable level of separation of valuables. Flotation circuit design is usually accomplished by applying empirical rules which usually results in operations not working at their optimum conditions. Given the capabilities of genetic algorithms (GA) in finding an optimum solution in a very disturbed search spaces, they can be used to obtain the desired flotation circuit configuration. In flotation circuit configuration and optimization problem, a combination of metallurgical parameters such as yield and concentrate ash content could be used as the fitness function for the genetic algorithm. The multi-objective nature of the problem justified to use Pareto method to arrive at a set of solutions. The appropriate configuration based on technical or economical considerations could then be chosen. To obtain the fitness function for any given configuration, it is necessary to model every flotation stage. The proposed method was used to find the optimum circuit configuration for a coal washing plant. The objective was to arrive at the highest yield while producing a concentrate with a certain ash content (< 11%). The feed to the flotation circuit was characterized based on the size fractions and their flotation rate constants. Results showed that with a 95% confidence, the absolute difference between the modeled and measured values were 2.9-5.5% for yield and 0.4-1.1% for concentrate ash content. When the proposed GA-based circuit configuration was implemented in the plant, the yield increased from the original value of 57.6% to 65.7% while producing concentrate ash content (10.9%) within acceptable limits. By adding one stage to the current three-stage circuit, it was predicted that the yield could further increase by 3.8% while keeping the quality of the concentrate within the appropriate level. "We carried out adsorption experiments in chloride media to study the adsorption characteristics of Pd (II) anions on the surface of activated carbon. Throughout the experiments, we used commercial activated carbon pellets (0.8 Norit). The adsorption process was interpreted by using the ionisation and adsorption model. This implies that palladium anions were adsorbed physically on a protonated surface of activated carbon either as anionic complex species (PdCl4 -2) or aqua chloro-complex species [PdCl3(H2O)-] in acidic media. Furthermore, we established that adsorption of Pd (II) species was reversible at high chloride [Cl-1] concentration. The maximum adsorption capacity (Qsat) of Pd (II) anions averaged 27 mg/g. The Toth adsorption isotherms fairly predicted the equilibrium adsorption of Pd (II) species and the associated surface coverage.The effect of temperature and acid strength of the feed solution on the adsorption of Pd (II) ions were quantified. The adsorption kinetics was limited by external mass transfer since the effect of pore diffusion on the overall rate constant was negligibly small. A pseudo first-order kinetics model was used to describe the adsorption kinetics."

"The decrease in iron content and increase in contaminants grade, associated with greater participation of compact and semi-compact materials, has impacted the recovery of a mechanical cells flotation circuit in the Iron Quadrangle, Brazil. The recovery decrease in the flotation stage motivated the current conventional flotation circuit reevaluation seeking alternatives to restore the recovery, without affecting the final concentrate quality parameters, with low investment. Sampling, chemical characterization of samples, bench scale flotation experiments, and mass balances were conducted. Analysis of the results showed opportunities to improve the circuit performance. The stages prior to the flotation circuit changes were: rougher, cleaner, recleaner and scavenger. In the previous configuration, recleaner was operated as cleaner scavenger and the iron grade in the scavenger concentrate was 23%, representing 38% of the new feed. After the circuit change, the circulating load was reduced from 38% to 15% and the iron content was upgraded to 42%, resulting in increased residence time. The iron content in the global tailings of the concentrator was decreased from 10.9% (year of 2013 average) to 10.2%, representing gains in both mass and metallurgical recoveries.INTRODUCTIONRegarding plant practice, the year 1972 represents a landmark for the concentration of iron ores in Brazil. VALE started up 28 units of WHIMS (wet high intensity magnetic separators) at the Cauê plant in Itabira, each one producing 1x106 t/year of concentrate. Later 17 WHIMS machines were commissioned at Conceição. During the 80’s decade of last century, changes in the ROM required the addition of a cleaner flotation stage to decrease the silica content in the pellet feed.The first company to use reverse cationic flotation as the only concentration operation of iron ore was SAMARCO (start up in 1977). Since 2015 flotation has been utilized at VALE in Itabira as major concentration process, magnetic separation acting as scavenger stage.The Jones matrix type WHIMS were manufactured for decades under patent by KHD Humboldt Wedag. After the expiration of the Jones patent, Eriez Magnetics took the world leadership regarding WHIMS manufacturing. The Brazilian branch of Eriez is Inbras. Based on plant practice experience at the Fabrica concentrator, the Brazilian company Gaustec was established (RIBEIRO and RIBEIRO, 2010) and is now present in different countries. The mega sized WHIMS GHX-1400 (18.000 Gauss, gaps smaller than 1.5 mm) were developed to face the challenge of huge throughput required by iron ore processing (Ribeiro et al, 2017)."

In cyanide leaching procedure, achieving an acceptable efficiency for silver and gold is very time-consuming, thus, enough studies have not been performed for optimization and modeling of this process. The kinetics of cyanide leaching includes two steps: first step comprises a sharp slope while the other has a slight increasing trend. In the present study, in order to reduce the time and cost, the cyanide leaching process of a sulfide silver/gold ore was optimized in the first period. The applied parameters and their ranges are: temperature 20-40 (°C); time 1-8 (hrs); cyanide concentration 1-2 (mole cyanide / mole Cu); the percentage of solid to liquid 1-2 (%) and pH 10-12. For design of experiments fractional factorial 2(5-1) was used. Also four center points were applied to increase the accuracy of the model. In addition, by analysis of variance (ANOVA) the most effective parameters were identified and the optimized condition was determined. A regression model was proposed to describe the effects of independent variables and their interacting role on silver recovery. Results showed that the model was linear for silver and nonlinear for gold. In the gold recovery process, the two important parameters are time and pH with the former being more effective. Due to the existence of cyanide ions in the medium, temperature and cyanide concentration have less influence in the gold recovery process. Solid to liquid ratio, in addition, comprises a slight negative impact on the procedure. This emphasizes the different kinetics of silver/ gold cyanide leaching. Finally, using the optimum condition the amount of silver and gold obtained were 61% and 67% in 8 hours, respectively. "A typical low-grade of high sulfur bauxite fr contains 54.71% Al2O3, 11.35% SiO2 while the ratio of aluminum and silicon was 4.25, and harmful components such as Fe and S graded 7.3% and 1.33% respectively. The ore is characterized by complex mineral compositions, fine dissemination of particle size of pyrite and diaspore, low desulfurization efficiency, and difficult separation of aluminum and silicon. In order to improve the degree of concentration, recovery and desulfurization efficiency on the basis of process mineralogy studies, the floatation behavior of high sulfur bauxite in the process of desulfurization and desilication were studied through laboratory tests and pilot plant tests. KEYWORDS high-sulfur bauxite; low grade; flotation; desulfurization;desilicication INTRODUCTION In order to solve the selection problem of bauxite mine area, we carried out technological mineralogy, laboratory test, small-expansion Dalian test to solve the problem of the refractory ore. Main research contents and conclusions were presented as followings :(1)Process mineralogy research shows: the main mineral components include diaspore, kaolinite, chlorite, pyrite, limonite. (2)Batch flotation tests indicated that slime can be dispersed well during desulfurization floatation when Na2CO3 was used as modifying agent. (3)Poilot plant tests shows that Batch flotation tests results are correct. 2?PROCESS MINERALOGY 2.1 Chemical Composition of Ore 2.1.1 Spectral Analysis of Sample The results of the semi-quantitative analysis of X-Ray -fluorescence spectra of the original ore are shown in Table 2-1. The results of spectral analysis show that the main components of the sample are O, Al, Si, followed by Fe, Mg, Ti, S and so on, while the content of other elements is very small. The value is Al, and maybe Ti, for bauxite, while Fe and S are unfavorable elements, and Si and Mg and Ca are the main impurity elements."

"Stirred media mills are widely used in the industry for fine grinding. Most of the applications work in wet mode, however dry grinding in stirred media mill comes forward more frequently nowadays. The present paper deals with the differences and similarities of the wet and dry grinding in stirred media mill from energetic and mechanochemical point of view as well. Grinding experiments in batch stirred media mill were carried out with different materials. During the experiments zeolite and kaolin were used as feed material. The grinding experiments were carried out at different stress energy and stress number values; the grinding work was measured during milling. After grinding X-ray diffraction (XRD), Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR), particles size analyzes by laser scattering were carried out on the ground materials. As a result of the systematic grinding and analytical measurements a comprehensive comparison was carried out on the wet and dry grinding and their usefulness for mechanical activation in stirred media mill. INTRODUCTION The natural zeolites are crystalline hydrated aluminosilicates of alkali and alkaline earth characterized by the structure that contains frameworks responsible for the high cation exchange capacity (CEC) and absorption capacity. The frameworks are interconnected by cavities and resided by cations variable in size, coordinated by water molecules. Since zeolite comprises SiO4 and AlO4 tetrahedra interlocked by oxygen atoms that are situated in the structural nodes, their characteristics differ due to the varieties in the structure-directing agents and Si/Al ratio (Colella and Wise, 2014; Malekian et al., 2011; Terzic et al., 2017). The most common natural zeolite occurring in high amount, of industrial importance and involved in milling and MA is the clinoptilolite, in the literature equivalent to “natural zeolite” designated for high clinoptilolite bearing volcanic tuffs. Its amount in the host rock must reach ~ 40 % by weight to obtain the CEC and adsorption desired in its applications. In the highest quality rock might reach 80-90 % by weight (Favvas et al., 2016), but most often is the 40-60 % by weight content, associated with smectites, improving the CEC and adsorption of the tuffaceous rock. The application of such natural zeolites is problematic in many cases due to high silica (quartz, cristobalite and volcanic glass) content and beneficiation (concentration and extraction of pure zeolite) are not feasible. Thus, mechanical activation is a possible way to alter the other than clinoptilolite minerals generating high specific surface area and functionalized particle surfaces to enhance adsorption, reaction or particle adhesion. The zeolites easy availability and the utilization cost-effectiveness have prompted the research on their physicochemical and structural properties (e.g. adsorptive and molecular-sieve activity, heat resistance, and microporous cage structure) and finding new options for their application (Kusuma et al., 2013; Musyoka et al., 2014; Rida et al., 2013; Terzic et al., 2015b). Apart from the presence of exchangeable framework cations which are crucial for the adsorption ability, and a certain degree of pozzolanic reactivity. The thermal stability of dehydrated phases is another important characteristic for use of the zeolite in composite materials that are exposed to high temperature. Thereby, the zeolites found a wide application possibility in the design of the construction composites (Albayrak et al., 2007; Najimi et al., 2012; Vejmelková et al., 2015), as well as for resolving of the environmental protection issues like wastewater refining or heavy metal elimination (Gómez-Hortigüela et al., 2014) even from contaminated groundwater using passive methods like permeable reactive barriers (Gombköto et al, 2016). We studied the feasibility of automated mineralogy to discriminate between tennantite and enargite, the main sulfosalts found in the Rio Blanco deposit, Codelco-Chile, in order to predict the content of minor elements (As, Sb, Ag, Pb, Zn) that impact on the process and concentrate prices. The identification of these minerals is feasible using traditional microscopy, however not possible by automated mineralogy. This drawback prevents comparing the databases generated in the past by means of conventional microscopy with the information obtained at present by QEMSCAN. To differentiate enargite from tennantite the mineral composition of both sulfosalts was studied by electron microprobe. The presence of associated minor element contents of about 8% zinc in tennantites and not exceeding 0.07% in enargites were used to modify the SIP database of QEMSCAN to enable the quantification of these phases in samples of head, residue and concentrate coming from As-bearing domains of the deposits. Detection limits allowed to determine the mineral species in the head, concentrate and residues. The integration of methodologies such as automated mineralogy and microprobe can be used successfully to quantify the presence of some ore forming solid solution.

In India, bauxite deposits are concentrated in Central India, Western Ghats and Eastern Ghats. Bauxites from various regions in Gujarat were identified during the present investigations of geochemical mapping. Different types of Bauxites samples were collected from Kachchh, Jamnagar, Porbunder, Junagarh, Bhavnagar and Amreli areas of Gujarat state and were studied in detail for their geochemical signatures to plot the data on Geochemical map. Raw bauxites were characterized by using powder XRD, XRF, ICP and optical microscopy techniques (with the help of Model microscope having both transmitted and reflected light setups) and were later examined to grade their quality. Most of the bauxites from Kachchh region were of high-grade (gibbsitic) type; while those of Sourashtra region were of low-grade (lateritic / calcitic) types. Most of these bauxites were either of ferruginous/lateritic or of calcareous/calcitic types. Based on the mineralogical composition, such as gibbsite, hematite and/or goethite, Kaolinite and calcite minerals present in particular bauxites, the deposits were graded. Finally, the Geochemical mapping of Bauxites for Gujarat region was prepared and discussed.

"Besides valuable metals of Cu, Sn, WO3, Zn, there are S, Ag, CaF2, In and so on in a complex ore deposit in south China (which belongs to Hu Nan Shizhuyuan Non-ferrous Metal Limited Liability). Although it proved reserve amounts to 3.5×107 ton, its crystal character limits its utilization in large-scale. It features complex relationships between valuable minerals, finest crystallized particle size, low-graded valuable metals (Cu 0.30%, Zn 0.5-0.7%, Sn 0.2%, W<0.1%). If only tungsten minerals are considered, it means WO3 grade is too low (the cut-off grade of WO3 is 0.1% in China). Only Cu and Sn minerals are recovered from 2006 and Cu recovery is less than 70%, Sn 15-20%. Other valuable metals of W, Zn, S and CaF2 were lost in the tailings. To make good use of the ore, the technology of fully recovering Cu, Sn, W, Zn, CaF2 and rare metals are in urgent need. After systematic researches, the flow sheet of "bulk flotation of Cu-Zn minerals at first, then Cu-Zn separation, then recovering sulphide by flotation, then recovering iron minerals by magnetic separation, then bulk flotation of Sn-W minerals after desliming" is developed. Furthermore, specific Sn-W collectors of BK411 and BK412 are applied into the processes and better indexes are obtained. The industrial indexes are listed as followings: the content of Cu, Zn, Sn, WO3 of ROM ore is 0.31%, 0.65%, 0.13%, 0.03%; Cu and Zn recovery are 82.23% and 37.79% respectively; 63.76% of Sn and 34.34% of WO3 go into the Sn-W bulk concentrates. Economic benefits are remarkable."

In practice the advantages of high-quality hydrocyclone separation are often reduced due to varying feed suspension properties, solids concentrations and particle size distributions. Control systems of large hydrocyclones are usually fitted with controllable underflow nozzles, which is not practical for small hydrocyclone batteries. Therefore, a new control system for a battery of hydrocyclones with a nominal diameter of 150 mm was invented at the LUR in cooperation with AKW Apparate und Verfahren GmbH & Co. KG. This process was developed for bentonite slurry regeneration associated with tunnel excavation using bentonite slurry as a transport aid and lubricant.

"The results of mineralogical and technological studies of platiniferous dunites from Svetloborsky zonal massif (Urals platinum belt) are presented and the basic typomorphic signs of productive mineral assemblages are substantiated. The characteristic features of platinum ore mineralization are revealed: a wide range of iron-platinum alloys, enrichment of ore-formed system by the elements Os, Ir, Rh and activity of the S and As in it, intrusion of Fe-Ni sulfides in platinum and its fusion with magnetite. More than 80% of PGM mineral grains has size less than 100 microns, that determines the possibility of significant losses of platinum in the process of gravity separation and the need for additional recovery processes for small and fine fractions of platinum tailings and sludge products. Summarized results of laboratory tests of small-volume sample processing of platiniferous dunites are presented and the processing flow sheet is developed and tested. The flow sheet incorporates several stages, including stage-wise grinding and gravity separation of ore using the centrifugal concentrator Knelson KS-MD for differently sized material and flotation treatment of tailing products using new classes of reagents for additional recovery of PGM fines."

"Preliminary tests were done to determine whether comminution by electric-pulse disaggregation, or E-PD (cf. Rudashevsky et al; 1995), was more effective than using conventional crushing for Merensky Reef ore. A hand sample of the Merensky Reef was sawn in two: then one sub-sample was comminuted to .2 mm using E-PD at the University of Minnesota, and the other sub-sample was crushed to .2 mm using a conventional jaw crusher at CANMET.The products of the electric-pulse disaggregation and jaw crusher were fractionated by sieving and by a separation using a heavy liquid with a specific gravity of 3.3, because the proportion of platinum-group minerals (PGM) and sulphides to silicate minerals is very low. Thus, four mineral separates were produced: .2000 + 833 µm, -833 +208 µm, -208-µm float and -208-µm sink. All the mineral separates were studied by image analysis (Lastra et al; 1998). The main objective was to determine the liberation of gangue (silicate minerals), chromite, pyrrhotite, chalcopyrite, pentlandite and PGM. In the case of the PGM, a specific image analysis program was written to search and measure these minerals.The results show that the liberation obtained for gangue was similar (~99%) using either method of comminution. However, the liberation obtained for chromite (~89% vs. ~38%), pentlandite (~50% vs. 1%), pyrrhotite (~56% vs. ~38%), and PGM (~56% vs. ~1%) by E-PD was higher than that obtained by conventional jaw crusher, whereas the liberation obtained for chalcopyrite (~20% vs. ~71%) by E-PD was lower. Nevertheless, the image analysis of the products also showed that the PGM are strongly associated with pentlandite. Thus, for the Merensky Reef, liberation of pentlandite from the gangue minerals and chromite is important to recover more of the PGM. This maybe be significant because, in addition to increased recovery of platinum-group minerals (PGM), Merensky Reef pentlandite also contains significant quantities of valuable platinum-group elements like Pd and Rh (Cabri, 1981; Cabri 1988, Kinloch 1982, Peyerl 1983). Hence, the results indicate that for the Merensky Reef, electric-pulse disaggregation would represent a better comminution operation than a conventional jaw crusher would. In addition, the greatly improved liberation for chromite may find application for the PGM-rich UG2 chromitite."

About 90% of the barytes produced the world over is used for oil and gas drilling as weighting agent in drilling mud to control pressure, prevent blow out and provide lubrication. This is because of its unique properties like high specific gravity, water insolubility and intentness. India is one of the leading producers and exporters of barites. The Mangampeth Baryte deposit in Cuddapah district of Andhra Pradesh, India being the largest single deposit in the world having a reserves of about 80 million tonnes. Approximately 50% of the total reserves of grey barites of Mangampet deposit assays less than 92% BaSO4, the minimum stipulated grade for oil and gas drilling industries. To reach and recover the high grade barite, the overlying low grade has necessarily to be mined out and removed. At present this is being stacked separately at the mine site involving lot of labour and transport cost. Considerable barites is contained in the dumps adversely affecting the conservation and creating lot of environmental hazards. IBM being the premier organization in India in the field of conservation of minerals and environmental protection in mining has recognized the importance of adverse effect of these huge dumps at site. The Ore Dressing Division of IBM, Nagpur has characterized these dumps and developed the flotation process on a sample assaying 66% BaSO4 and 23.3% SiO2. The flotation concentrate obtained assayed 93.7% BaSO4, 2.38% SiO2 with BaSO4 recovery of 80% and meets the requirement of the oil industry. The flotation concentrate being non-wetable, can not be used as such as weighting agent, and hence the collector coating on the concentrate was removed either by acid treatment or heating to make it water wetable. The concentrate was 92% -325 mesh and having a specific gravity 4.3. The barites concentrates so produced meets the size, grade and specific gravity specifications required for use in oil drilling industry. Apart from the financial benefits the process augurs well for the commercial exploitation of these huge dumps in terms of (1) additional recovery of these valuable minerals and conservation, (2) reduction in dumps value, (3) improvement in environment and offering an excellent potential for export.

The complex ore deposit containing fluorite, barite and bastnaesite minerals is located in Beylikova Region of Sivrihisar town of Eskisehir Province of Turkey. The ore contains 40.80% CaF2; 35.35% BaSO4; 2.01%Ce; 1.5% La; 0.39% Nd and 0.1% Th. Barite recovery from this ore by flotation of the HCl leached tailings is presented in this paper. Rare earths are recovered by leaching. The leached residue (tailings) containing fluorite and barite is subjected to froth flotation to recover barite. The effect of pH and collector concentration on the flotation of barite have been studied in this work.

In the current climate of changing the approach to mining and treatment of mineral resources, processing technologies are being developed that require little maintenance and are economically as well as ecologically sustainable. This may also involve the development of entirely new ways of ore processing. One promising approach is to use bioleaching for the pretreatment of gold refractory ores to cyanidation. Capital costs for vat bioleaching of concentrates and ores are very high and cannot be applied for small or medium-size deposits. IRGIREDMET JSC carried out bio heap leaching test work on refractory ore samples from three Russian deposits. Following this biological treatment a combination of flotation, vat bioleaching, and cyanidation are used to recover gold. After heap bioleaching, gold recovery was 75-80 per cent. It was found that efficiency of heap bioleaching process depends on ore feed size. High duration of this process is another feature and it lasts for about a year. This process can be also used for carbonates in the combination with other process during which acid generation occurs. The results of our studies have shown that this technology is amenable for refractory gold ores. Its introduction allows an increase gold recovery and to solve a number of environmental problems. "Nowadays, long periods of relatively low iron ore prices have made the steel industry get the greater pressure. To develop appropriate processing technology based on characteristics of the iron ore, so as to reduce the beneficiation costs, is crucial to the improvement of iron and steel enterprise competition. For a typical low-grade iron ore from northeast China, beneficiation process research was conducted based on the in-depth studies of ore characteristics. Results show that the iron grade of the ore was 31.56%, the content of FeO was 6.59%, the main iron minerals were hematite and magnetite with fine dissemination sizes and partly scattering in gangue; With the grinding fineness of 65% passing 0.074mm, and regrinding fineness of 90% passing 0.074mm, the concentrate with 66.80% iron and recovery of 82.90% was obtained via the combined flowsheet of stage grinding – classification – gravity concentration – low and high intensity magnetic separation – reverse flotation. Ratios of gravity concentration and low intensity magnetic separation were 70.21% and 7.57% respectively in 40.42% of total concentrate yield; The loss of micro-size fractions can be reduced by feeding spiral tailings into magnetic separation and flotation; It’s helpful in reducing the dosage of reagents and beneficiation costs by increasing the throughput of gravity concentration and outputting concentrate of low intensity magnetic separation.INTRODUCTION Iron and steel industries are facing the increasing pressures in the continued falling iron ore prices. In order to improve the competitiveness, it is extremely urgent for them to develop more appropriate separation process for the reduction in iron ore beneficiation cost. As a typical low-grade iron ore, Anshan-type iron ore is one of the most important iron ore resources in China [1-3]. The flowsheet of stage grinding and separation contained the classification of the coarse particles and the fine particles, the gravity concentration, the magnetic separation and the anionic reverse flotation has been widely applied for Anshan-type iron ore. With the appropriate separation progress as well as equipment, satisfactory separation results had been obtained, and mineral particles with different size were recovered separately [4-7]. However, the low recovery of fine mineral particles and the relatively high beneficiation costs still prevented the efficient application of the process [8]. For a Anshan-type low-grade iron ore, a typical process flowsheet, as mentioned earlier, with stage grading, classification of the coarse particles and the fine particles, gravity concentration, magnetic separation, anionic reverse flotation was adopted currently. And the concentrate with 67.10% iron and recovery of 75.50% was obtained and the gravity concentrate accounted for 39% of the total concentrate. However, a large amount of fine liberated iron ore particles were lost in the tailings."

More than 50% of all the molybdenum produced in the world is a by-product of copper production. A bulk Cu-Mo concentrate is first produced, which is subsequently separated into Cu and Mo concentrates. The Cu-Mo separation circuits rely on the use of inorganic Cu sulfide depressants such as NaSH, Na2S, and Nokes, which are hazardous, and sometimes require very large dosages for effective depression. Synthetic polymeric depressants are safer and more efficient, and are now being used on the plant-scale. Data presented in this paper demonstrates that these polymeric depressants can replace 50-90% of all the NaSH in Cu-Mo separation at a fraction of the NaSH dosage. In this paper we provide an overview of the mechanistic and practical aspects of the Cu-Mo separation with inorganic depressants and polymeric depressants. Important practical aspects include depression dynamics (related to conditioning time and rate of depression), optimum pH for effective separation, the role of pH modifiers such as lime and NaOH, and the effect of flotation gas on the efficacy of the separation. Using nitrogen as flotation gas, the NaSH consumption can be reduced by up to 95% by using a small amount of polymeric depressant. The experiments with conditioning time demonstrate that there is a significant rate component to the depression mechanism with NaSH, which is absent for the polymeric depressant system. This has important implications in the effective use and application of the depressant. It is also demonstrated that the pH modifier type (NaOH or Ca(OH)2) has no significant effect on separation efficiency and Mo recovery (i.e. Ca2+ ions do not depress MoS2 in the Cu-Mo separation).

"Manganese is widely used in industries such as the steel industry and is now an essential element in modern industry. Technologies for the efficient and clean utilization of manganese resources must be developed and employed to ensure the sustainable growth of the manganese industry. Our research focuses on the use of beneficiation technologies to improve the grade of ores or the replacement of low-grade manganese carbonate ores with high-grade manganese oxide ores, and thus, to reduce reagent and energy consumption and the yield of electrolytic manganese residues from metallurgical processes; the study of leachate purification technologies; the study of electrochemical behaviors during electrolysis and energy-saving electrolysis methods; the development of chromium-free passivators as alternatives to the highly toxic potassium dichromate passivator; the non-hazardous treatment and resource utilization of electrolytic manganese residues and other manganese by-products; and the development of new manganese products. INTRODUCTION Manganese is widely used in the steel industry, nonferrous metallurgy, the chemical industry, electronics, batteries, agriculture, etc. Globally, more than 90% of manganese is consumed by the steel industry, and thus, it is said that ""No steel industry without manganese""(Banerjee et al. 2017, Zhang et al. 2017). Current manganese resources mainly include manganese ores, marine manganese nodules and waste catalysts. The total global output of manganese ore from land deposits is 18 million tons (metal volume), and the reserves, most of which is in the form of manganese oxide ores, are estimated to be 620 million tons (metal volume). More than 400 manganese ore deposits with a total reserve of 1.22 billion tons have been discovered in China. These deposits are predominantly manganese carbonate ores. Marine manganese nodules exist on the surface of the deep seabed at depths of 2000-6000 m. These nodules, which are also called polymetallic nodules, manganese balls, manganese aggregates and manganese tumors, are mainly composed of iron and manganese oxides. The total reserves of these resources add up to more than 3 trillion tons. Furthermore, the manganese in manganese-containing catalysts can be recycled after they become inactive."

"The wastewater emitted by gold chemical industry contained vast of different heavy metal ion, such as Zn, Cu and Ni etc. Among them Zn is the main ion in the waste water which causes the serious environment pollution. A method of preparing a kind of resin which is used for the removal of Zn by magnetic adsorbent was developed and was applied in practice. This adsorbent is a chitosan made of a kind of Fe3O4-chitosan modified by epichlorohydrin. The adsorption capacity of the absorbent and it was concluded that under the laboratory conditions, the maximum adsorbing capacity of this adsorbent could be 287.58 mg/g. The absorbent was also applied in the wastewater emitted by a gold industry in Shandong province. Its performance was tested and the result showed that the concentration of Zn ion in the wastewater was reduced from 0.58 mg/L to 0.0174 mg/L. What is more, the adsorption rate could be more than 97% when the dosage was 100L/m3 after adsorbing for 1h. Many different metals participate to this reaction besides the gold ion in this processing, so that the composition of the water is very complex. The waste water emitted by gold chemistry industry contains large amount of heavy metals. Definitely, if it was discharged without any treatment, the water would threaten the environment. The recuperation of any ion in the water would mitigate the pollution. Ion exchange resin, which is an effective material to do the water treatment with low cost, became widely applicated in this field [Yu-jiao Wang,2013]. Different kinds of resin were developed and the influence factors such as pH, adsorption properties and selectivity for different ions were investigated [CA Cruz et al,2018; PawanKumar et al.2016; Y Zhang, et al,2010; and ShengingSun, Aiqin Wang, 2006;]. The waste water mentioned in this article has a high Zn concentration, so a magic resin for Zn adsorption selectively we designed was used to manage this water. And the recovery of Zn could not only contribute to pollution abatement but also a best way to settle a dispute to the short of Zn resource. So the article mainly describes the preparation and the application of a kind of magnetic adsorbent used for the removal of Zn both in laboratory and industry.
