AT Grand Saline, some 65 miles east of Dallas, the Morton Salt Co. of Chicago has for some years operated a brine pumping and evaporation plant on a salt dome. They recently drilled trial holes to obtain data on the dome, preparatory to opening, a new mine, with the following results: The dome is in the form of a truncated cone, with an average of 210 ft. of cover. The top of the dome is approximately one mile in diameter, with the town of Grand Saline lying over the northern rim, and the sides slope off at an angle of 50" to 80" from the horizontal. The deepest holes were drilled to 900 ft. without penetrating beyond the salt, and indications are that the salt deposit is several thousand feet thick. As the deposit increases in area with the depth, there is undoubtedly enough salt to supply a mining operation for an almost unlimited period of years.

Pós fluxantes desempenham um papel significativo na qualidade do aço durante o processo de lingotamento contínuo. Os pós fluxantes são escórias sintéticas usadas para lubrificar o molde durante o lingotamento contínuo do aço. Para que isso ocorra, o fluxante deve apresentar as seguintes funções: isolamento químico e térmico do aço, absorção de inclusões não metálicas do aço, lubrificação do molde e controle da transferência de calor entre o aço e o molde. O desempenho de cada função está relacionado às propriedades químicas e físicas do pó fluxante, que são dependentes de sua composição química e sua composição mineral, devido a sua relação com a taxa de fusão do material. A fim de garantir uma produção eficiente e de alta qualidade durante o lingotamento de um aço ultra baixo carbono, os pós fluxantes A e B foram investigados de acordo com diferentes propriedades físico-químicas. Diversos experimentos laboratoriais foram realizados para comparar o desempenho dos materiais A e B, visando à diminuição de captura da escória pelo aço no molde: avaliação do comportamento de fusão e fluidez, composição química e viscosidade. As temperaturas de processo foram avaliadas através de testes estatísticos, visando caracterizar o fluxo de calor e o trabalho de fricção durante lingotamento. Os testes industriais preliminares, realizados na Ternium Brasil, foram conduzidos com o objetivo de analisar o comportamento do pó fluxante durante a operação de lingotamento contínuo em relação a alguns aspectos operacionais e fornecer informações sobre sua influência na qualidade superficial do aço. Os resultados mostraram que, aumentando a viscosidade do fluxante, o consumo de pó tornou-se menor, levando a um maior trabalho de fricção e menor fluxo de calor no molde. No entanto, o comportamento da camada de escória mostrou que, apesar do aumento da força de atrito no molde, a espessura da escória foi adequada e não houve relatos de defeitos superficiais durante o uso do material fluxante de maior viscosidade.

Every few weeks United States newspapers of 25 or 30 years age ran scare-heads telling of some mine disaster, which was a first-page attraction for a day or two and then was forgotton until another disaster occurred a few weeks later. Interspersed with these disasters were the so-called sniping mine accidents, causing the death of one or two mine workers. The summation of all types of mine fatalities usually exceeded 3,000 a year. In the period 1906-10, inclusive, there wore 84 major explosion disasters (or about 17 per year) in united States coal mines; the fatalities resulting from those disasters numbered 2,388 for the 5-year period. These frightful catastrophies helped to cause the total number of fatalities in our coal mines for the 5 years (including the fatalities from major explosions) to reach the enormous total of 13,288, an average of 2,658 per year. In addition, some hundreds of other typos of mining accidents swelled the annual fatality list to upwards of 3,000. This admittedly deplorable condition created so much Nation-wide comment that Congress was impressed with the necessity of having something done by the Federal Government with a view to trying to halt at least sonic of the excessive loss of life in our mines; in consequence, the Bureau of Mines was created and began to function in July 1910.

Liberal use has been made in this paper of a recent publication on Russian, Italian, Belgian, and French experiments prepared jointly by the Centre d'Etudes et Recherches des Charbonnages de France (Cerchar) and the Institut National de l'Industrie Charbonnière of Belgium (Inichar).1 The writer is particularly indebted to Dr. E. T. Wilkins, of the Fuel Re¬search Station, London, and to Mr. James L. Elder, of the Alabama Under¬ground Gasification Experiment at Gorgas, Alabama, for their unfailing patience and effective support. Not only did these experienced and capable men edit and revise this discussion, but much of its content is a direct con¬tribution quoted in full from their memoranda. It has been a privilege to serve and work with them and to acknowledge repeatedly their loyal cooperation. The recovery of the energy inherent in coal beds throughout the world has been done through the years by methods that today may be justly regarded as primitive. While the techniques of coal mining through the application of machines and the enhancement of information and skills have advanced to an extraordinary extent, particularly during the past 20 years, the underlying means is essentially the same as when man first began to mine coal. Despite this progress in the manner of coal mining, it continues today as a hazardous, toilsome, grimy task. Coal mining per se has advanced at a greater and more rapid stride in the past 25 years than the mining of any: other mineral, but the basic method is fundamentally the same as it was the first day a miner took a pick into his hands many centuries ago. Strand guide rolls in continuous casters are crucial components for guaranteeing an optimum process for the production of high-quality steel grades. The properties of these rolls greatly influence the quality of the slab produced. The most commonly used designs so far have been the axle roll and the solid roll. A quite new roll concept is the STEC-Roll®. It combines the advantages of the axle roll with those of the solid roll. This paper explains the development of this roll type and shows the current design. The characteristics of the STEC-Roll® are presented in greater detail and are underlined by a number of simulation results. Beside the design itself, the benefits for casting and maintenance are explained, including for example the easy assembly and dismantling or the use of the roll for dry casting. A brief examination is made of the TCO for the STEC-Roll® and an estimation is provided of the exchangeability of this roll. To conclude, an overview on the current applications is presented.

"INTRODUCTION The veins of the Clark Fork district have been mined on a small scale since 1913. In May 1943, the district was examined by an engineer 3/ of the Bureau of Mines with a view to possible exploration for larger ore deposits that might be of value to the war effort. The area adjacent to the Hope, Whitedelf, and Lawrence mines was re-examined 4/ December 27, 1943. As a result, the Bureau of Mines started exploratory operations in the district during the summer of 1944 which was continued until the late spring of 1946. This report presents the data obtained from the investigation.ACKNOWLEDGEMENTSIn its program of exploration of mineral deposits, the Bureau of Mines has as its primary objective the more effective utilization of our mineral resources to the end that they make the greatest possible contribution to national security and economy. "Federal regulations require the installation of refuge alternatives (RAs) in underground coal mines. Mobile RAs have a limited ability to dissipate heat, and heat buildup can lead to a life-threatening condition as the RA internal air temperature and relative humidity increase. The National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health Office of Mine Safety and Health Research performed heat testing on a 10-person tent-type training RA and contracted ThermoAnalytics, Inc. to develop a validated thermal simulation model (TSM) of the tested RA. The TSM was used to examine the effects of the constant mine strata temperature assumption, initial mine air temperature (MAT), initial mine strata surface temperature (MSST), initial mine strata temperature at depth (MSTD), and mine strata thermal behavior on RA internal air temperature using 117 W of sensible heat input per simulated miner. For the studied RA, when the mine strata temperature was treated as a constant, the final predicted RA internal air temperature was 12.8°F lower than it was when the mine strata thermal behavior was included in the model. A 10°F increase in the initial MSST resulted in a 7.1°F increase in the final RA internal air temperature, whereas a 10°F increase in the initial MSTD yielded a 2.5°F increase in the final RA internal air temperature. INTRODUCTION Since 2008, the Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA) has required the installation of refuge alternatives (RAs) in underground coal mines (1). MSHA requires that RAs provide an environment with breathable air for entrapped miners for a 96-hour period. Heat buildup inside an occupied RA is a serious concern. Without a means to dissipate the heat and humidity generated by the occupants and the carbon dioxide scrubbing system, the temperature and humidity inside RAs could lead to severe discomfort or heat stress depending on the mine ambient temperature before and during occupation of the RA. NIOSH recommended an apparent temperature limit of 95°F in its 2007 report to Congress (2). In 30 CFR 7.504, MSHA has specified a maximum apparent temperature of 95°F inside an occupied RA (3). The apparent temperature is calculated using both air temperature and relative humidity (4). Calculations could be used to determine if the air within an occupied RA will reach the apparent temperature limit. In these calculations, in order to simplify the problem, the mine temperature could be assumed to remain constant. With this assumption, the effects of the mine strata thermal mass and thermal conductivity on the heat buildup in an RA are ignored. OMSHR research has shown that the mine air and strata temperatures surrounding an RA increase when subjected to the heat of an occupied RA (5). Thus, calculations performed with the assumption that the mine temperature is constant would under-predict the resulting dry-bulb temperature and apparent temperature for a given RA occupancy. The mine air temperature has been used as the basis for RA temperature calculations. However, research has not been used to confirm that the mine air temperature is the appropriate basis."

This report describes the preparation characteristics of the three significant coal beds in Greene County, Pa. It is one of a series planned to determine which coals are suitable for the production of metallurgical coke, either as mined or after beneficiation. Over 12.5 million tons of coal was produced in Greene County in 1956, of which approximately 10 million tons was cleaned mechanically in 8 cleaning plants. The Bureau of Mines has estimated that 3.5 billion tons of recoverable coal remained in the county as of January 1, 1954.

Substantial deposits of Bessemer hematite have been found recently by drilling beneath Steep Rock Lake, Ontario, which is situated in the northern part of the Lake Superior Region. It will be practicable to divert the waters flowing into this lake and develop open pits on the upper pert of two large ore bodies by damming off and pumping out the water in the part of the lake in which they occur. Ultimately, the bulk of the ore will be mined by underground methods. Owing to the generally massive nature of the rocks in the area, no underground flows of major consequence are anticipated after diversion of the lake. The Steep Rock deposits are attributed in origin to hydrothermal replacement. They were formed, for the most part, along an unconform-able, brecciated contact between the Steep Rock limestone and an overlying younger volcanic series, The replacing solutions came in as igneous after-effects, following upon the intrusion of basic igneous rocks that invaded the hanging-wall volcanics. It is believed that this took place in a geological period roughly equivalent to late Middle Huronian, which was the period when the most extensive iron-bearing rocks of the Lake Superior Region were formed. Comparison is made with other deep-seated iron-ore bodies in the Lake Superior Region, the origins of which are ascribed in the discussion to hydrothermal replacement. Introduction Under the waters of Steep Rock Lake, Ontario, situated on the Canadian National Railway, 142 miles west of Port Arthur, the presence of three ore zones containing red and brown Bessemer hematite has been established. These were discovered and have been partly explored by means of diamond and churn drilling, The positions of the ore zones, designated as A, B and C, are shown on the accompanying maps and cross sections. This exploratory work, begun in 1938 by Joseph Errington* and Julian G. Cross, has been carried on by Steep Rock Iron Mines Ltd., and was continued during the winter of 1941-1942. For more than 60 years explorers have known that large quantities of hard hema. tite float of good grade existed along the south shore of Steep Rock Lake, and the presence of ore beneath the lake was inferred by many early geologists and explorers. Despite numerous previous attempts to find ore in place, actual discovery awaited the recent period of intensive exploratory effort in Canada. The results obtained in the drill holes put down since 1938 by steep Rock Iron Mines Ltd. are not only of interest, in themselves, to those concerned with the development of ore deposits, but, taken in connection with the surface exposures of adjoining formations, they form the assemblage of facts from which the geological reasoning in this paper proceeds; accordingly, they are set out here as briefly and exactly as may be.

U.S. Steel Corp.'s Winifrede mine is operated by Lynch District in the mountainous region of eastern Kentucky. This region is characterized by narrow finger ridges and precipitous slopes, which present both an opportunity and challenge in the design and selection of coal-handling facilities for the movement of coal from the section belts to the railrod cars. Lynch District selected diesel-powered locomo¬tives and 100-ton articulated cars capable of negotiating sharp curves. The drop¬bottom mine cars are equipped with longitudinally hinged doors that are auto¬matically opened and closed. Lynch District selected a large-diameter steel-lined borehole for lowering the coal approximately 1000 ft from the seam level to the valley floor railroad load-out point. Taking advantage of gravity, the presized coal is "lowered" vertically approximately 720 ft to existing entries of a previously abandoned mine. The coal is then conveyed horizontally into storage. The coal¬handling facility from the mine-car dump to the railroad load-out point is fully automatic through use of tone control. TV cameras are installed along the facility to continuously monitor the strategic points. The diesel locomotives are either directly operated or remotely radio-controlled, depending on the functions Per¬formed. U.S. Steel Corp.'s Winifrede mine is operated by Lynch District in the mountainous region of eastern Kentucky. This region is characterized by narrow mountain ridges and precipitous slopes which present both an opportunity and challenge in the design and selection of coal-handling facilities for the movement of coal from the section belts to the railroad cars. The narrow finger ridges precluded use of under¬ground haulage and, thereby, presented the opportunity to use high-capacity equipment on the outside bench. The precipitous mountain slopes, steepest at the Wini¬frede seam horizon, presented a challenge to select a solution for lowering the coal approximately 1000 ft from the seam level to the valley floor railroad load-out point. It was evident from the start of planning that these two factors predominated; namely, rail haulage and coal lowering, and solutions to these would determine the final design of the Winifrede mine coal-handling facilities. The Winifrede mine derives its name from the Wini¬frede Seam which comprises the total reserve recov¬erable from this facility. The seam is 5 ft high with a good siltstone bottom and competent shale or sandstone roof. The seam is at an elevation of 2700 ft where the mountain ridges are long and narrow. This configuration of the reserve was ideal for conveyor belt installation to transport the coal from the working face to the outside bench. The preclusion of underground rail haul¬age permitted an opportunity to review the type of locomotive power and to select high-capacity equipment without the limitations associated with underground systems. Since the basic electrical design of the mine was al¬ternating current, with rectification to direct current for shuttle cars required only in the face areas, there was no point in bearing the burden of additional cost of dc trolley installation. And, since the haulage would re¬quire only a few tunnels to negotiate sharp points and to reach the back side of the reserves, diesel power was selected for the haulage locomotives. To provide stability on the almost continuously curv¬ing track and to provide the maximum width of haul¬age equipment, both locomotives and mine cars, stan¬dard railroad gage was chosen to offer the largest choice of equipment. The decision was made to select a standard 45-ton railroad diesel locomotive but to lower the cab height to reduce tunnel excavation requirements. The mine car was the next challenge. Past experience in Lynch operations indicated that drop-bottom cars would be a successful application with the free-flowing coal. The search was for a drop-bottom car within the dimensions of the locomotive to discharge the coal in the shortest time. Numerous types were considered and visits made to various sites to observe cars in operation.

British Columbia, unlike the Prairie Provinces, cannot lay claim to vast prairies. She can, however, claim many valleys, uplands and plateaus that are capable of marked agricultural development. It has been said that British Columbia is not an agricultural province. This may or may not be true, but at the present time agricultural production in this province stands second only to that of forestry. The industry has advanced from a total production of 8 millions in 1908 to a total production of 60 millions in 1924, a total increase of approximately 650 per cent in 16 years. In the last 10 years production has increased from 30 millions to 60 millions. No other industry can point to such a rapid development. In 1908 British Columbia imported 12 million dollars worth of foods compared to the 8 millions which were produced at home. In 1924 she imported 20 million dollars worth of foods compared to the 60 millions worth produced at home. In addition we exported foods to the value of approximately 10 million dollars. British Columbia is therefore self-sufficing in-so-far as values ar.e concerned except for approximately 10 millions of dollars. It is not to be expected that this province will ever grow all the coarse grains that she may require: these, along with certain meats, will always be a heavy item in the imports. We are concerned at the present time more with the value of the products than with the quantities produced: in other words, with quantities only in-so-far as ? quantities improve value.

W. J. Parton—Those operators faced with the problem of treating fine coal whether in bituminous or anthracite will find this paper most timely. I would like to take this opportunity of discussing Mr. Schiffman's paper and at the same time express certain views relating to our Tamaqua plant. I would like to ask the author what type of impeller and diffuser is used in the Denver cells? Screen analysis of products from individual cells indicate that coarser material resists flotation and only floats after greater retention time in the last few cells. Also, the need for a scavenger screen to reclaim non-floated coal particles further stresses this point. I have always felt that more efficient means of cleaning coal between 10-mesh and 28-mesh existed than flotation. Reagent and power costs are high for the flotation process. When floating +28-mesh particles, cell capacity is lowered and some of the particles are lost with the refuse. The Tamaqua plant of the Lehigh Navigation Coal Co. floats —28-mesh coal and capacity of recoverable coal is 40 tph for 1800 cu ft of Denver cells; or 0.05 tons per cu ft of cell. At Kimberly 7.75 tph for 600 cu ft of cell gives 0.013 ton per cu ft of cell. At Bessie 14 tph for 800 cu ft of cell gives 0.017 tons per cu ft of cell. It would be appreciated if the author would comment on what he feels is the upper size limit of particle to attain most efficient utilization of the flotation process. The dewatering screw is a very interesting development since it offers a simple way to prepare coal sludge for more complete clewatering by drainage or mechanical dewatering on screen or filters. In other words it could be used to accomplish the same thing as a thickener tank. I would appreciate having the author's comment on how he thinks such a screw dewaterer would work on a froth.* The process as used in floating coal at the Bessie and Kimberly plants may be referred to as more of a bulk oil float in contrast to a froth flotation process. Experiments on increasing capacity of cells is most interesting since we are going through such an experi- mental period at the present time. Recently a double overflow was installed on our No. 30 Denver cells. So far results are not conclusive. In reviewing this paper the following comments are made pertaining to investigation of methods for increasing capacity: Supercharging: Supercharged air in matte flotation or for that matter the use of the normal amount of air drawn in by the impeller would in all probability cause such an aeration in the cell as to destroy the buoyant effect given to the coal particles by the excessive amount of kerosine used. In other words, air creates an agitation zone throughout the cell, creating a boiling and thereby giving a lower recovery in the cell. It would be interesting to know whether the 7 pct increase in recovery was with no air being admitted to the stand pipe. Changing Impeller Speed: The speed of a receded disc impeller for a No. 30 cell as recommended by the Denver Equipment Co. is, I believe, approximately 250 rpm. At this speed and using supercharged air in excess of 8-oz pressure, we have observed a boiling action in the cells. In our flotation we endeavor to obtain some degree of froth flotation using pine oil as a frother. The boiling action as caused by increasing the amount of air added to the cells is detrimental to recovery in froth flotation. It is our belief that to obtain increased recovery from a cell in froth flotation, additional air must be introduced but at the same time this air must be dispersed throughout the pulp in the form of small bubbles and this can only be done by increasing the speed of the impeller. Therefore, if Mr. Schiffman decreased the speed of the No. 30 impellers and at the same time continued to use supercharged air, the boiling action may have been increased because larger bubbles developed. The lower recovery as reported could be due to this factor. Decreasing the impeller speed will definitely decrease the power consumed but may have other disadvantages. First, we believe it will permit "sanding" in the cell and this in our opinion will increase the wear on the impeller and diffuser, especially so, if there is pyrite and/or sand present in the feed. "Sanding" in the cell when air is used, as in froth flotation, will effect the dispersion of this air and cause boiling.

I would appreciate having the author's comment on how he thinks such a screw dewaterer would work on a froth.* The process as used in floating coal at the Bessie and Kimberly plants may be referred to as more of a bulk oil float in contrast to a froth flotation process. Experiments on increasing capacity of cells is most interesting since we are going through such an experi- mental period at the present time. Recently a double overflow was installed on our No. 30 Denver cells. So far results are not conclusive. In reviewing this paper the following comments are made pertaining to investigation of methods for increasing capacity: Supercharging: Supercharged air in matte flotation or for that matter the use of the normal amount of air drawn in by the impeller would in all probability cause such an aeration in the cell as to destroy the buoyant effect given to the coal particles by the excessive amount of kerosine used. In other words, air creates an agitation zone throughout the cell, creating a boiling and thereby giving a lower recovery in the cell. It would be interesting to know whether the 7 pct increase in recovery was with no air being admitted to the stand pipe. Changing Impeller Speed: The speed of a receded disc impeller for a No. 30 cell as recommended by the Denver Equipment Co. is, I believe, approximately 250 rpm. At this speed and using supercharged air in excess of 8-oz pressure, we have observed a boiling action in the cells. In our flotation we endeavor to obtain some degree of froth flotation using pine oil as a frother. The boiling action as caused by increasing the amount of air added to the cells is detrimental to recovery in froth flotation. It is our belief that to obtain increased recovery from a cell in froth flotation, additional air must be introduced but at the same time this air must be dispersed throughout the pulp in the form of small bubbles and this can only be done by increasing the speed of the impeller. Therefore, if Mr. Schiffman decreased the speed of the No. 30 impellers and at the same time continued to use supercharged air, the boiling action may have been increased because larger bubbles developed. The lower recovery as reported could be due to this factor. Decreasing the impeller speed will definitely decrease the power consumed but may have other disadvantages. First, we believe it will permit "sanding" in the cell and this in our opinion will increase the wear on the impeller and diffuser, especially so, if there is pyrite and/or sand present in the feed. "Sanding" in the cell when air is used, as in froth flotation, will effect the dispersion of this air and cause boiling.

This publication describes abandoned-mine fire-control work administered by the Bureau of Mines under cooperative agreements with State and local governments. The work was done by private contractors under the supervision of Bureau engineers. The work is authorized by Public Law 738, approved August 31, 1954, and Public Law 89-4, approved March 9, 1965. Earlier work was authorized by Interior Department Appropriations Acts for fiscal years 1949-55. A total of 70 fires have been controlled under this program in the eastern bituminous region. The nature and extent of the abandoned-mine fire problem in the bituminous region is discussed, and the methods used for controlling these fires are described. The methods that have been used, either singly or in combination, include loading out and cooling the burning material, installing fire barriers, surface sealing, and water and pneumatic flushing.

WITHIN the past three weeks the price of crude oil in the Mid-Continent field has been cut 50 .per cent. Similar action has been taken, or probably, shortly will be taken, in most of the other fields of this country. This cut is very drastic. Is it justified? Some of the causes advanced for the cut are: that it is in line with the industrial downward readjustment now taking place throughout the country, and that there is an over-production of oil, which can best be slowed down by lowering the price of crude. In part, these two reasons are logically advanced, but such underlying causes as the great production- in Mexico have not been prominently brought forward nor the fact that it would be advantageous at this time to fill up the empty storage of many of the consuming companies at a low 'price. In order to properly comprehend the situation let us compare for a moment the production- of oil in the United' States and that in Mexico. Oil in the United States occurs in numerous often widely separated pools, varying in individual area, but each usually relatively extensive, compared to the area or gathering ground from which it is ultimately derived: It occurs in mod-erately porous reservoir rocks under such conditions of pressure, mobility and availability as to preclude its withdrawal except over a period of years-varying from 1 to at least 40 (average, say 15 years, depending on-the pool). One well will usually drain a limited area-2 to 10 acres-so that rate of withdrawal of oil under each owner's property is determined by the owner. - The important point to remember is that no matter how intensive the development, the oil reserves of -the United States cannot be materially exhausted' for at least 20 years, and the total available supply, not including shale oil, will probably require 50 to 75 years, or longer, for its withdrawal, the yearly rate of production decreasing slowly from this time on.

"A review of historic operating practices of the heap leach pads at the Los Filos Mine, Mexico, revealed periods of restricted cyanide addition, reduced leach time, and insufficient irrigation flow. These issues all led to the buildup of partially leached recoverable gold inventory within the leach pads. Drawing down this inventory represented an opportunity to bring value forward. This paper outlines the strategic initiatives which were implemented as efforts to accelerate the inventory drawdown, including geophysical mapping and pressure injection.INTRODUCTION Los Filos is a heap-leach operation located in the Guerrero gold belt in southern Mexico. Operational and hydraulic challenges at the Los Filos Mine have led to a buildup of gold in inventory within the leach pads. Operationally, periods of restricted reagent addition, reduced leach time, and insufficient irrigation flow have compounded over the last eight years, and resulted in significant inventory growth. Hydraulically, the leach pad has issues with low permeability and solution channeling due to the fines and clay content of the ore. The leach pad is storing high-grade pregnant leach solution (PLS) as perched aquifers above areas that are compacted and difficult to drain. These operational and hydraulic challenges made it particularly difficult to spatially predict the precise locations of the inventory build-up. Fortunately, the challenges at Los Filos are not unique to the mine, and others have taken steps elsewhere to reduce metal inventory through a program that targets areas for inventory drawdown. For example, Ghorbani et al. (2016) noted that a method of injecting barren reagent solutions, applied directly to specific areas of a leach pad to reduce inventory, was presented by Wan and Brierley (1997) and Wan (1997). Seal (2004; 2007), Seal and Jung (2005), and Seal et al. (2012) have put the injection methodology into practice in Nevada and Colorado gold mines with a technology called Hydro-Jex®. The goal of Hydro-Jex has been to supply reagents at a high pressure over a short duration, followed by periodical low pressure rinse periods to remove leached metal and resupply fresh reagent to the ore."

Este processo normalmente é utilizado para produzir peças de formas complexas e com uma maior precisão dimensional de acordo com a especificidade exigida pelo cliente final. Para obter resultados de qualidade, foi necessária a implantação de técnicas de medição indireta de última geração, que proporcionam ganho de tempo e a redução de desperdício de energia e material, além de aumentar a segurança, reduzindo a presença de pessoas próximas aos materiais para medições manuais. O presente trabalho trata da criação de um sistema de visão que, por meio de análise de imagem, é capaz de coletar a medida do perfil de barras em uma Forjaria em tempo real, podendo ser utilizado durante a operação da prensa, para garantir que o material está em conformidade com o especificado. A execução do sistema em produção aponta que as medidas realizadas apresentam desvio máximo de 2mm em relação àquelas realizadas pelos operadores.
