Na mineração a céu aberto, na etapa de planejamento a curto prazo são desenhados constantemente polígonos usados no planejamento de produção, onde geralmente o processo de desenho é manual, demandando o tempo e esforço dos planejadores. Os polígonos gerados no planejamento de curto prazo devem apresentar a menor variabilidade possível entre eles, para que as restrições da planta de processamento sejam atendidas. Desenhar polígonos de curto prazo de forma automática, sequenciar todos os blocos de minério em cada polígono, e conectar um polígono a outro é o foco deste trabalho. Para isso, foi feito uso de algoritmos genéticos e dinâmicos, desenvolvidos em linguagem de programação Python e operacionalizados no software geoestatístico SGeMS. Gerou-se múltiplas iterações para cada um dos avanços individuais de blocos de minério, gerando regiões ou polígonos, e selecionando as regiões de menor variabilidade de teores. As funções de distribuição de probabilade dos teores de cada avanço foram comparadas a função da distribuição de teores global do corpo de minério, os resultados mostram que os polígonos possuem distribuições semelhantes à distribuição de referência, então foi possível sequenciar os blocos de forma operacional garantindo quasi-estacionaridade dos parâmetros.

O desenvolvimento de estruturas com dimensionamento confiável requer o monitoramento de seus materiais, entretanto alguns processos de fabricação muitas vezes induzem modificações em seu comportamento mecânico. Isso faz com que as estruturas sejam menos confiáveis podendo causar redução da vida útil. Um dos processos onde isso acontece é a soldagem. Seu aporte térmico, modifica a microestrutura do material de tal forma a gerar três regiões mecanicamente distintas na junta soldada: Metal de Solda (MS), Zona Afetada pelo Calor (ZAC) e Metal de Base (MB), fazendo com que haja concentração de tensão na região afetada. Este trabalho se deteve em analisar o comportamento mecânico de uma junta soldada de aço inoxidável AISI 304 em comparação com o mesmo material não-soldado através da identificação dos gradientes de deformação, utilizando da Correlação Digital de Imagens (CDI) aplicada ao ensaio de tração. Os resultados provaram a capacidade da técnica de CDI em identificar campos de deformação mesmo em materiais anisotrópicos, como uma junta soldada.

Optimizing and adjusting the particle size composition of grinding products is of great significance for improving economic benefits and resource recovery and utilization. In this study, grinding contribution and quantitative separation of impact and grinding mechanism in cylindrical mill were creatively researched, and the grinding technical efficiency of impact and grinding was coupled to the grinding technical efficiency of grinding in drop-off mode. The results showed that the contribution rate of impact and grinding in grinding in drop-off mode varied with the grinding time. On the whole, the contribution rate of impact action increases with the grinding time and gradually becomes stable, and the contribution rate of grinding effect was just the opposite. Under the experimental conditions, the main contribution of the grinding process is impact action, and the contribution of grinding action is auxiliary. In addition, the contribution rate of impact and grinding effect in grinding in drop-off mode was also related to the feed particle size. The contribution rate of impact effect decreased with the decrease of feed particle size, while the contribution rate of grinding increased inversely.

As mudanças no plano estratégico de uma organização reverberam por todos os seus setores, gerando demandas de alinhamento estratégico. Entre estes setores estão os de planejamento e programação da manutenção. O presente estudo de caso descreve uma iniciativa de alinhamento estratégico realizada pela equipe de planejamento de manutenção da unidade Ubu da Samarco Mineração S/A, uma empresa de mineração e pelotização de minério de ferro, localizada no estado do Espírito Santo. A partir de uma revisão na estratégia corporativa foram derivados a missão, visão e valores da equipe. Esses por sua vez, serviram de base para uma revisão dos processos de trabalho e para a definição de ações de melhoria. Por fim foram estabelecidos indicadores para mensurar a realização da visão. Os resultados apresentados por esses indicadores comprovam que as equipes de planejamento podem obter e demonstrar resultados significativos através de técnicas elementares de planejamento estratégico.

I DEEPLY appreciate the honor which has been conferred upon me by my election to the presidency of this Institute, as I feel that it is the highest honor a mining engineer can receive, and I also feel that I am especially fortunate in being called to take the presidency in the year following Mr. Hoover, as I may be enabled in that way to carry on the work which he has initiated. The constructive work that Mr. Hoover has inaugurated has been of inestimable benefit in bringing not only this Institute but the entire engineering profession into a place in the public esteem to a degree which it had never before occupied.. This work Mr. Hoover will now carry on in the broader field of the Federated American Engineering Societies, of which he is president. Through that organization the engineers of this country, in all branches of the profession, will be welded into one compact body reaching from the Atlantic to the Pacific, making the united engineering profession a power for maintaining American . . ideals and standards throughout the land.,

A remoção de inclusões nos distribuidores de lingotamento contínuo tem sido investigada por meio de modelamentos físicos e matemáticos. Recentemente, a injeção de gás nos distribuidores tem sido considerada como uma alternativa para aprimorar a remoção de inclusões. Vários trabalhos vêm sendo desenvolvidos analisando os efeitos da injeção de gás e sua interação com as inclusões. No entanto, existe espaço para mais investigações envolvendo o efeito da vazão do gás e a localização do sistema de injeção de gás na eficiência de remoção de inclusões. No presente trabalho, foi usado um modelo físico construído em escala 1:3 de um distribuidor industrial de 40 toneladas de capacidade nominal, para analisar o efeito da injeção de gás. Os experimentos incluíram contagem on-line de partículas pela sonda APS III e análise de curvas DTR. O resultado mostrou que a injeção de gás é benéfica à remoção de inclusões e que a análise pura dos volumes característicos, calculados a partir das curvas DTR, não é suficiente para avaliar a eficiência de remoção.

Gold and lesser copper mineralisation are associated with porphyry-related vein systems periph-eral to two separate inferred intrusive centres north of Kainantu, Papua New Guinea (PNG). The intersection of NW trending structures, formed parallel to the Markham Fault, with NE trending transfer structures localise porphyry intrusions, and control vein distrib-ution.The Arakompa veins intrude pre-existing fractures in Akuna granodiorite, located proximal to an inferred porphyry. These veins are characterised by early quartz and later pyrite-chalcopyrite. Gold mineralis-ation is associated with Bi-Te phases in the sulphide veining. At Maniape, en echelon gash veins occur within the imbricate portion of a regional structure. Maniape is a high level carbonate-base metal gold system formed distal to the same porphyry source as Z ?-;4 kmmna

"Within six months from award of a project management contract, Les Mines Dumagami Limitée, Cadillac, Quebec, was operating its new hoisting facility. This was accomplished with less than a six-week shutdown of mine production while still maintaining shaft access for underground maintenance.The work involved installing a refurbished /3.5 ft diameter double drum hoist, replacing a timber headframe with a newsteel headframe, increasing the ore bin capacity from 500tons to 1000 tons, constructing a new substation, and upgrading related facilities.This paper describes the work and methods used by various contractors, Les Mines Dumagami Limitée and J.S. Redpath Mining Consultants Limited to bring this project to a successful completion. It discusses the history of the project from proposal stage through to the design, procurement, scheduling, and construction management. The paper also comments on problems that were encountered and the methods used to overcome them.IntroductionThe Donald J. Laronde Mine of Les Mines Dumagami Limitée (Dumagarni), a gold and copper producer, is located in northwestern Quebec, approximately half way between Val d'Or and Rouyn. The mine started production in the spring of 1988 and the first gold bar was poured in June 1988.Following a request by Dumagami, on February 22, 1989, J.S. Redpath Mining Consultants Limited(Redpath) delivered a proposal to increase hoisting capabilities from 1500 tpd to a minimum of 2500tpd. Although various concepts were considered, Redpath proposed a new hoist house along the same shaft axis as the existing hoist, and located on the site of the existing substation. They would then provide a new substation, replace the headframe with a largersteel structure , gain extra storage capacities by increasing the bin heights, and raising the roof of the bin house accordingly.Although underground mining would have to be stopped for a month, the mill production would be maintained by feed from Dumagami's open pit.Figure 1 shows the original plant layout and Figure 2 represents the general arrangement after the project was completed . Table 1 compares the original hoisting facilities to the new facilities.On March 2, Dumagami awarded Redpath a contract that included preliminary engineering, detailed engineering, procurement and contract administration, and later added construction management. The preliminary engineering refined the initialconcept, selected major equipment, and prepared schedules and capital cost estimates for the total project."

To substantially reduce, if not eliminate, carbon dioxide (CO₂) emissions from ironmaking it is necessary to convert from blast furnace (BF) ironmaking using coking coal as the reductant to direct reduction (DR) ironmaking using hydrogen (H₂) and green electricity. Currently, almost all natural gas (NG) based direct reduced iron (DRI) production utilises iron oxide pellets in shaft furnaces, as opposed to fines in fluidised beds. Also, these pellets are ordinarily produced from high-grade magnetite concentrate, rather than hematite and goethite with typically higher gangue contents. The use of high-grade magnetite concentrate is driven by the preference to melt DRI in conventional electric arc furnaces (EAFs), thereby avoiding the basic oxygen furnace (BOF) for making crude steel (CS). However, in replacing BF with DR ironmaking it is not economically feasible to source enough high-grade magnetite to replace the lower grade hematite and goethite currently consumed. That is not to say that hematite and goethite, or even low-grade magnetite, cannot be used in DR ironmaking. However, their higher gangue content, resulting in higher slag production, requires that the EAF producing CS be replaced with a submerged arc furnace (SAF) that will produce pig iron (PI) for the BOF as does the BF. Here, critical issues to be addressed are, what are the technicalities in replacing high-grade magnetite concentrate with hematite and goethite and NG with H₂ in DRI pellet production and melting? This paper summarises certain relevant published information on DRI pellet research, test work and production together with relevant information on Pilbara ores. It attempts to illustrate the inter- relationship of composition and processing conditions on DRI pellet properties. It is intended to serve as a rudimentary guide to understanding the complexities of formulation, testing, evaluation, production and goethite and offer insight into this challenge.

An evaluation was made to determine the economics of utilizing waste fluosilicic acid for production of (1) calcium fluoride, and (2) anhydrous hydro-gen fluoride. Two versions of each process were considered and compared. The evaluation showed that both products could be produced and marketed competitively. Lowest estimated product sales prices required to yield a 25-percent return on investment before taxes (discounted cash flow basis) was $339.34 per ton of hydrogen fluoride and $48.64 per ton of calcium fluoride.

The U.S. Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA) issued Program Information Bulletin P09-03 in April 2008, providing formal guidance on using programs that model the redistribution of stress during underground mining of coal. A key part of this guidance is visual observation and mapping of ground conditions. If a correlation between ground conditions and model output can be established, the model is considered to be verified, and can be used to guide mine design in similar ground. A simple scale is recommended for ranking observed roof, rib and floor conditions. This paper discusses optimization and implementation of a ground condition rating scheme in the gateroads of a deep underground longwall coal mine. Roughly 80% of each gateroad length deteriorated in a fairly uniform manner. However, this manner varied between gateroads, as did pillar size. The implementation of a ground condition mapping program, similar to that recommended in PIB P09-03, was successful in characterizing the ground response to mining in gateroads of a longwall coal mine.

Best practice mine sampling should provide a detailed quantification of all potential sources of error at each stage of sampling, sample preparation and assaying.Quality assurance (QA) should include testing for and quantifying potential sampling errors, and should be the basis for establishing ongoing sampling protocols, should set error limits and define quality control (QC) procedures. QA should be within the framework of Theory of Sampling (TOS) but may not involve the estimation of the sampling constant and the application of Gy’s formula.Best practice QC should be carried out efficiently and in a timely and cost-effective manner with regular reporting against the guidelines established by QA.This paper provides an assessment of, and checklist for, current best practice sampling QA/QC with examples from operating gold mines including the QA/QC of underground (UG) reverse circulation (RC) grade control.CITATION:Carswell, J T, 2017. This study aimed to identify a way to reduce the use of bentonite in the pelletization of magnetite. With this goal, different combinations of binders were compared to bentonite by examining the quality of pellets obtained by balling drum agglomeration. Pellets were subjected to routine tests that included simple compression of the wet and dry 105°C pellets, dropping wet pellets to determine their ability to survive handling and submitting pellets to thermal shock to determine how they tolerate drying and preheating. The best results use sodium silicate (1.5%) as a binder and show that it is possible to pelletize iron ore without using bentonite.

"Characterizing the spatial distribution of rock stresses is a challenge, especially in the geologically complex environments typically found at most metalliferous mines. Therefore, instead of focusing, specifically, on the task of making stress measurements, the engineer should instead attempt to develop a better understanding of the interaction between stress, mining geometry and rock mass behaviour. This paper demonstrates such an approach using a Canadian Shield hardrock mine case study, in which geomechanical models are used to relate stress, mining geometry, and rock mass properties to observed excavation response, and numerical modelling is used to better quantify this interaction.IntroductionUnderstanding how the mine geometry, field stresses and rock mass interact to produce the observed rock mass response to mining can be a significant challenge. Consider our present ability to quantify the basic geomechanical design input data. Mine geometry is normally quantified in more detail than is required for analysis purposes. Our understanding of rock mass strength and stiffness is far from complete, but established procedures do exist to obtain estimates of these parameters based on index and laboratory testing data and field mapping. Our ability to quantify field stresses is probably the most limited, in part because stress measurements are difficult and expensive to carry out, and in part because the stresses vary to an unknown degree from point to point within the rock mass. The engineer must, therefore, consider whether or not stress measurements are justified and, when they are, where the average stress state needs to be quantified and how many of which type of measurements will be required to determine the average stresses.Such was the case at Ansil mine, a massive sulphide deposit in hard rock located at a depth of more than one kilometre in the northern Québec portion of the Canadian Shield. The Ansil orebody was relatively rich, but small, with the potential for significant stress-related problems. As a result, geomechanical design had to be done carefully from the start – there would be little opportunity to modify the mining strategy once production had begun, and the economic consequences of stope dilution and rock mass instability would be severe. Este trabalho apresenta a análise, o projeto e o desenvolvimento de um manipulador robótico industrial de baixo custo para linhas de produção. O aparato proposto possui potencial para contribuir na melhoria das condições de utilização de células robóticas no cenário industrial nacional, auxiliando na superação dos desafios existentes na implantação de células robóticas por pequenas e médias empresas, nomeadamente, custos de implantação, manutenção e reprogramação/reconfiguração. O manipulador robótico industrial foi projetado considerando uma estrutura metálica leve de baixo custo, com elementos mecânicos de precisão média e não dedicados, facilmente encontrados no mercado nacional. Além disso, o manipulador robótico foi projetado para ser capaz de alcançar velocidades médias provendo tempos de ciclo de operação quase equivalentes aos apresentados por robôs polares articulados convencionais, nas mesmas aplicações. O sistema de controle foi concebido para não empregar o dispendioso sistema convencional de hardware centralizado de controle de eixos, sendo esta operação realizada por algoritmo computacional executado no mesmo PC responsável pela gestão e integração dos processos. Assim, a operação emprega dispositivos acionadores descentralizados considerando o envio dos sinais de referência diretamente aos acionadores, possibilitando a compensação das restrições dos esforços da estrutura com recursos de suavização de trajetórias. A integração com o usuário foi projetada para possuir uma interface gráfica de manipulação amigável e que permita facilmente os processos de operação, manutenção e de reconfiguração. Fornecendo ainda, recursos de supervisão, histórico de falhas e assistência remota. Por fim, um protótipo do manipulador robótico industrial proposto é apresentado demonstrando as principais características construtivas e operacionais.

This paper discusses and compares methods of statistical analysis of the information relating to the evaluation of an asbestos deposit. From a study of 10-ft. lengths of drill core, the separate effects of visual evaluation errors were determined, as well as the deviations between evaluators and the deviations produced by a slight displacement in the center lines of the check drill holes. The importance of careful statistical analysis of such information is stressed.

Inorganic oxidizing agents of the type MeOx-z such as Chromate, Vanadate, Tungstate, and Molybdate... etc. are widely used as corrosion inhibitor. In non acidic solution these oxidizing agent are reduced on the surface of the meta, according to OX + m e + p H20 Red + n OH" In which y = (n-m)/m. The purpose of this publication is to show that for many metals the value of y for any oxidizing agent determines the possibility of that oxidizing agent being an inhibitor or activator for the corrosion process. The inhibition efficiency for other ions such as Pertecnetate and Tellurate which have not been extensively studied can be predicted. A mathematical, equation was derived to express the relationship among the concentration of oxidizing agent, degree of retardation of the corrosion process I cord cor ° (ratio of corrosion current in the solution containing inhibitor to the base solution) , ionic strength of the solution and the coefficient y. The validity of y and the mathematical, equation were verified by many experimental, works on various metals such as zinc, aluminum and steel. Al, the above research works are based on the published research works of Prof. Mikhailoviskii (from 1979 til, 1998) from the Russian Academy of Science.

Nas últimas décadas o setor siderúrgico vem desenvolvendo aços com maior valor tecnológico, surgindo assim várias classes, entre elas os aços avançados de alta resistência, onde encontra-se o aço bifásico ou “Dual Phase” (DP). Este aço é caracterizado por uma microestrutura ferrítica-martensítica, associada a uma matriz ferrítica com ilhas dispersas de martensita. Neste trabalho utilizou-se amostras de um aço baixo C e Mn, com micro adição de Nb e Mo, em desenvolvimento, onde se propôs uma avaliação da evolução microestrutural e propriedades mecânicas das amostras extraídas após a laminação a quente, a frio, seguida de recozimento intercrítico, em escala laboratorial, com auxílio de forno Mufla e um equipamento de análise termomecânica (TMA), resultando em taxas de aquecimento distintas, onde selecionou 7 temperaturas de encharque distintas e subsequente resfriamento com patamar isotérmico a 600°C por 20 minutos, onde observou-se que para esse ciclo a microestrutura com aspectos mais característicos de um DP se deu em tratamentos com temperatura de encharque entre 760 e 800°C.
