A laboratory process based on simple and environmental friendly operation, aimed at recycling of spent Li/MnO2 batteries, is described in this study. This process involves roasting Li/MnO2 batteries in a vacuum furnace at 650°C, followed by selective leaching Li2CO3 from calcined electrode material in distilled water at ambient temperature and controlled crystallization of pure Li2CO3.

Extraction of zinc(II) from hydrochloric acid solutions is discussed. The literature on the extraction of zinc(II) in the presence of iron(III) and iron(II) with various basic and solvating reagents has been reviewed. It was found that tributyl phosphate (TBP) is the best compromise, and permits both effective extraction of zinc(II) and its stripping with water. The process was confirmed in a continuous laboratory mixer-settler circuit.

"Chromium Nitride (CrN) thin fihns were deposited on steel AISI 316 substrates with reactive magnetron sputtering method. CrN films were produced under two different conditions. In the first one, the substrate was heated by a d.c. source. At the second coating was applied a negative substrate bias voltage. X ray diffraction, quantitative energy dispersive and scanning electron microscope, were employed to characterize their phases, chemical composition and microstructure. Additionally microhardness was evaluated using a microhardness tester. The results show that the phase formation of CrN thin films in the first case (with temperature) is better. Both coatings presented homogeneous surface. Their compositions shows differences though that gases flow are same. The leaching of metal nickel in copper sulfate solutions is investigated. It is established, that irre-spective of presence or absence of chloride-ion and oxidizer (oxygen) in system process can be divided into three stages, characterizing by restoration and oxidation of metals with formation of metal copper and cuprite and differing in the speeds of sedimentation of copper and transition of nickel into solution. At the initial stage of process along with allocation of metal copper it is be-sieged cuprite, that results in excess of speed of sedimentation of copper in comparison with dis-solution of nickel. At the second stage speed of transition of nickel into solution falls practically to zero, and sedimentation of copper proceeds on reaction of interaction of metal copper with copper sulfate solutions with cuprite formation. During the final period speed of transition of nickel into solution exceeds speed of sedimentation of copper due to course of reaction of resto-ration of cuprite up to metal. Influence of an ion of chloride and oxidizer on formation of various phases is revealed. It is established, that presence of an oxidizer results in increase in a share of cuprite in a deposit. With increase of the maintenance of chloride-ion speed of metal copper allo-cation essentially grows even at presence of an oxidizer in system.

The fibrous precursor can be obtained by coordination precipitation process, using oxalate, cobalt chloride and ammonia. XRD pattern of precursor precipitated at pH=9.0 is different from that of ß-CoC2O4?2H2O precipitated at pH=1.0 which indicates that the precursor powders are one type of cobalt complex. According to the results of element analysis and IR spectra, it can be inferred that the composition of the precursor is [Co(NH3)x]C2O4?H2O(x=1.2?..6) formed by the coordination reaction at pH=9.00 in the Co(II)-C2O42--NH3-NH4+-H2O system. It?s found that the fibrous cobalt powders greatly inherited the morphologies of the precursors. Many factors could affect the formation of the fibrous cobalt precursor powders, such as the initial Co2+concentration, pH value and so on. The SEM images show how they influence the morphologies of the precursor powders. By adding proper surfactant, the dispersion of the precursor powders would be improved. At last, the final product-fibrous cobalt powders which are about 0.3~0.5min size and 40~60 in aspect ratio were produced by thermal decomposition of fibrous cobalt complex at 400~500°C in the weak reducing atmosphere.

The effect of the TiC addition on corrosion resistance of the Al2O3-C refractories in smelting reduction melts has been studied by quasi-station immersion and rotary immersion. The corrosion rate of Al2O3-C refractories is decreased with the TiC addition. The corrosion mechanism of Al2O3-C refractories is oxidization of graphite carbon by the oxides of the melts and the formation of deteriorate layer.

"The quality of machined surface is becoming more and more important to satisfy the increasing demand of component performance and its reliability. While machining any component, it is necessary to satisfy the surface integrity requirements. Heat treatment plays an important role in improving the characteristics of the material.This work investigates the effect of heat treatment on the surface characteristics of AISI D2 tool steel after Wire-Electro Discharge Machining (W-EDM). The test specimens were prepared by hardening and tempering and then machined with Wire-Electro Discharge Machining process. Optical and scanning electron microscopy, surface roughness and micro hardness tests were conducted to study the surface characteristics of the machined surface. After characterization based on microstructures and test results, it is observed that the recast layer droplets are of smaller size with reduced white layer thickness resulting in higher hardness and lower surface roughness.IntroductionWith the development of mechanical industry, the requirement of alloy materials having high hardness, toughness and impact resistance is increasing. At the same time the quality of machined surface is becoming more and more important to satisfy the increasing demands of component performance and reliability. When machining any component, it is necessary to satisfy the surface integrity requirements. Surface integrity has two important parts. The first is surface texture, which governs mainly surface roughness. The second is surface metallurgy, which concerns to the nature of surface layer produced in machining [2]."

In the course of carbonization of coal under a rising temperature condition, volatile matter (V.M.) is released. The kind and amount of V.M. released depend on the kind of coal. Components of V.M. are tar, hydrocarbons (CH4, C2H4, C2H6, C3H8), CO, CO2 and H2, which are released in this order as a function of carbonization temperature. When the carbonization of coal under a rising temperature condition is interrupted at a certain temperature, TC, max, semi-coal-char with residual V.M. is obtained. If some optimum interruption-temperature is chosen, small but most suitable amount of V.M., namely H2, is retained. When the semi-coal-char thus obtained is heated again under the same rising temperature conditions but up to more than TC, max (1), the residual V.M. is released from just around TC, max (1). We propose novel iron ore agglomerate bearing such semi-coal-char with some strength. While simple iron ore agglomerate bearing coal char will start the reduction reaction as solid-solid reaction at somewhat higher temperature, the proposed one will start the reduction reaction as gas-solid reaction at somewhat lower temperature but a little higher than TC, max. Samples of semi-coal-char and novel iron ore agglomerate bearing such semi-coal-char have been prepared and evaluated.

As a comprehensive contribution to the understanding of oxygen-blowing of matte smelting, the copper and nickel solubilities between the FeOx SiO2-MgO slag with saturated SiO2 and the Cu2S-Ni3S2 FeS matte with the NCu/(NcU+NNi) of 1, 0.75, 0.5, 0.25 and 0, in a MgO crucible were investigated at 1573 K under controlled partial pressures of SO2 at 0.1, 0.5 and 1 atm. The partial pressures of SO2, S2 and O2 were controlled by using an Ar-SO2-S2 gas mixture after passing through a sulfur reservoir. It was clarified that, at a given matte grade, the solubility of copper in the slag was independent of pso2 while that of nickel increased with increasing pso2. This notable difference was considered to be ascribable to the chemical formulas of the mono-metallic sulfides in which one copper atom combines with ½ sulfur atom while one nickel atom combines with 2/3 sulfur atom. It was also clarified that, at a given iron content in the matte, the pot and ps2 were independent of the matte species. This was ascribable to aFeS in the matte, which was independent of the matte composition, Ncu/(Ncu+NNi), at a given iron content in the matte.

A rotating-discelectrode system was used to evaluate the electrochemical behaviour of Eu(III) during its reduction in NaCl solutions. The solution pH and NaCl concentration have a great effect on the reduction kinetics. The thermodynamic modelling study also revealed that Eu(III) exists in various forms in NaCl solutions. At a low concentration of NaCl, the predominant species is the free Eu3+. Other Eu-chloro complexes become more predominant when the NaCl concentration increases.

The distribution coefficients of Ag, As, Au, Bi, Co, Cu, Ni, Pb, Sb, Se, Te, and Zn between copper matte and slag from the reverb furnace No.2 at the Copper Smelter and Refinery, RTB BOR (Yugoslavia), are presented in this paper. The influence of the matte grade on the minor elements distribution coefficients between copper matte and slag is analyzed. The minor elements distribution in the slag phase along the slag melt depth and the furnace length is also determined.
