You moderns think of your field of work as "Minerals Beneficiation"; to me it always will be "Ore Dressing." While I would like to talk with you on the future of ore dressing rather than the past, I cannot do this because I started to work in the field some 56 years ago, and my future is behind me. It is trite to remind you that then, in 1900, one out of every 30 high school graduates went on to higher education. Today, the figure is one in every three. So that, while you have a lot more men to compete with, the field of opportunity has expanded even more.

As predicted a year ago, owing to the discovery in 1936 of crude oil on the west flank of the south end of Tuner Valley in the eastern foothills of Alberta, 50 miles southwest of Calgary, and the drilling activity that resulted, the production of crude oil in Canada during 1937 showed a very substantial increase over the previous year. The production from other parts of Canada is relatively small and shows slight variations only from year to year. The production of crude oil in Canada and the production in Alberta, the main producing Province, is shown in Tables 1 and 2.

The kinetic ball mill model accurately simulated two industrial mills over their entire operating range. This was confirmed using 100 sets of grinding circuit data. Contrary to initial expectations, the absolute grinding rate function was not correlated to the mill feedrate, feed size distribution or pulp density. Instead, a single rate function provided excellent simulation over the entire operating range. Statistical analysis showed that the model explained all significant variation in measured product size distributions.

SPECIMENS of five cast Cu-Bi alloys, containing 4.68, 0.53, 0.043, 0.0064, and 0.0025 wt pct Bi and cast pure copper were subjected to a bend test to determine their relative ductility. THE investigation outlined in this paper was carried on at the plant of the Sawbrook Steel Castings Co., Lockland, Ohio. EFFECT OF TEMPERATURE In the study of the effect of temperature, heats were made with the Sawbrook company's standard practice, using multiple slags, the only difference' being that the heats were tapped at two temperatures; one group between 2960° and 3040°F and the other group between 3200° and 3250°F. Slags were weighed throughout the heat at each slag change and after the heat was poured. Only the significant slag weights, those of the total slag and the finishing slag, have been reported.

AS part of a study of deformation twinning in bcc crystals, solid solutions of beryllium in iron have been found to twin profusely when strained slowly at room temperature. This note reports some crystal-lographic aspects of the operative mechanical twin modes in a quenched Fe-5 wt pct Be alloy.
