Computer simulation models of working mines can be of great benefit to the mining engineer. Such models have been used in mine planning (how many trucks/shovels to have, when to add new equipment, etc.), mine design (should a dispatch system be purchased, where is the optimum location for mine equipment, etc.). A simulation model can be thought of as a dynamic representation of the mine and can easily be changed to reflect a wide variety of different situation. Often a major problem for the engineer is how to present the results of the simulation study. Using PROOF(R) animation it is now possible to interface the results of the simulation and project them onto a computer screen in cartoon fashion.

A técnica de difração de raios X permite a obtenção de diversos resultados referentes à caracterização de determinado material. Através dela, foi possível realizar cinco experimentos em amostras metálicas submetidas a diferentes preparos, dentre eles: análise qualitativa, cálculo do parâmetro de rede, análise de orientação preferencial, análise de tamanho de cristalito e análise quantitativa. Os resultados obtidos foram condizentes com o previsto pela teoria, ratificando a eficiência da técnica.

Este trabalho tem como objetivo apresentar a implantação de tratamentos termomecânicos no novo laminador de chapas grossas da Gerdau Ouro Branco, descrevendo seus mecanismos metalúrgicos e o correspondente efeito nos produtos. Para melhor ilustrar essa atividade, tomou-se como exemplo os resultados de testes bem sucedidos de aços estruturais de alta resistência e baixa liga, graus 80 e 90 ksi (550 e 620 MPa, respectivamente), com microestrutura predominantemente bainítica.

Shale specific - gravity to oil - yield relationships were developed for black shales of the New Albany Formation of Kentucky from data collected on core samples representing the complete section of the formation in three counties . Linear equations for estimating oil yield from measured specific gravity and for estimating specific gravity from measured oil yield were shown to be applicable within small error limits to all the sites tested . Variation in pyrite content is the largest source of error .

The in-pipe treatment of slurries with polymer addition shortly prior to deposition is a noteworthy emerging technology of increasing popularity. Although polymer treatment has been shown to substantially modify and improve depositional and dewatering behaviour in a significant number of cases, the impacts of polymer treatment on geotechnical performance of tailings are less well understood. For example, certain combinations of polymer and slurry type have been shown to result in lower final densities at a given vertical effective stress. Despite these lower densities, polymer-treated tailings often exhibit peak undrained shear strengths consistent with untreated material. However, the sensitivity and/or brittleness of the material may be negatively influenced by the looser state created. Although these changes have been studied, most testing available in the literature was undertaken on relatively ‘fresh’ samples of polymer-treated material. However, significant shear may occur following treatment and prior to the commencement of settling and self-weight consolidation as the material moves down the beach.To study the effects of shearing on the subsequent performance of polymer-treated tailings, a test program consisting of consolidation, triaxial and direct simple shear tests was undertaken on presheared polymer-treated material. Materials used were identical to those used in previously published studies on the impacts of polymer treatment in a ‘fresh’ condition. Shearing of the polymer-treated material generally appeared to lessen the impacts of the polymer treatment process. However, the behaviour of the material when sheared indicated that the polymer was still impacting the behaviour of the material in some respects. The results indicate the importance of the consideration of shearing on material behaviour when planning and designing a tailings deposit where polymer treatment is to be implemented.CITATION:Reid, D and Fourie, A, 2015. In upwards medium-deep hole cut blasting, many confinement effects exist due to the small number of free surfaces, which is mainly provided by an empty hole. If the cut blasting effect cannot meet expectations, then subsequent blasting construction will be seriously affected, and large security risks to operators in the stope can be induced. The number of free surfaces is directly related to the layout of the cutting borehole. Therefore, it is necessary to optimize the layout of the first round of cutting boreholes. Theoretical analysis, numerical simulations, and field tests were used to study the formation process of cut blasting and optimize the layout of the first round of cutting boreholes. Based on the blasting parameters in the field, LSDYNA software was used to establish cut blasting models with four kinds of borehole layouts in the first round. The RHT constitutive model was used to simulate the rock-breaking effect. The numerical results show that the cut blasting effect is optimal when Nos. 3, 5, 7, and 9 are charge holes and Nos. 1, 2, 4, 6, and 8 are empty holes. In addition, the greater the number of empty holes, the larger the release space and the better the cut blasting effect. The uniformity of the empty hole distribution, namely, the uniformity of the release space, also affects the cut blasting effect. The field results indicate that a good cut blasting effect can be achieved by optimizing the borehole layout.

[The Bull Valley iron-ore district lie,; in the northern part of Washington County, Utah, approximately 30 airline miles southwest of the highly productive Iron Springs area (fig. 1). Iron-ore occurrences in the district have been known for many years, but they have not been mined, largely because of the inaccessibility of the area. The Bureau of Mines established a development project in the Bull Valley district in September 1941. Two separate areas, the Pilot and the Cove Mountain, were investigated. The work was planned to increase iron-ore reserves for steel production in the Western United States. During the project period three diamond-drill holes aggregating 1, 000 feet were completed (fig. 2). The program also included 6 408 linear feet of surface trenching and 171 feet of underground work (figs. 2 to 8, inclusive). Analyses were made of 460 samples from the diamond-drill holes and surface and underground excavations. The results of the analyses are given in tables 1, 2, 4, and 5, and the logs of the diamond-drill holes are shown in table 3. Field. work was completed in September 1942.]

Amostras de polifurfural (FH) obtidas por catálise ácida foram termobaricamente tratadas em várias temperaturas e sob pressão de 6GPa em um dispositivo de alta pressão do tipo bigorna com concavidade central. Após o tratamento cada amostra foi submetida a análise por microscopia eletrônica de varredura. Os resultados indicam que a FH é um material grafitável e, possivelmente, poderá ser utilizado como matéria-prima para a execução do processo de síntese.

The paper reviews the requirements of the instrumentation required to monitor mining excavations in a high stress environment, and the development plan to instrument the D-Bolt in such a fashion as to be able to follow the behaviour of the bolts in relationship to the ground movements and support performance. Recent field observations of D-Bolts under static and dynamic conditions are also presented. Also discussed is the assumed mechanical behaviour of the D-Bolt. D-Bolts are used in two (2) Canadian underground mines operating in high stress environments and tested in three (3) other operations.

The project is currently under construction in the district Guararu in Caucaia in the metropolitan region of Fortaleza. The project will be developed in two phases. First phase: 600,000 tons per year rebar mill and 60,000 tpy steel mesh line; Second phase: 700,000 tpy melt shop (90 ton/hr EAF and 4 strand continuous caster for billets up to 180 mm x 180 mm).

The choice of equipment to be applied to a given installation by the Application Engineer begins with the data as presented to him by the user. This point in the relationship establishes a communication link, which will decide whether or not the correct piece of Overhead Equipment is applied at the most economic advantage to the user. The role played by the user cannot be minimized. No one knows better than he, just what work he expects to accomplish with this piece of machinery. However, all too often, he oversimplifies the requirements, and along with minimal crane and building parameters, merely refers to one of the following crane classifications as defined by The Crane Manufacturing Association of America, as shown in Figures 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 and 7. This approach places the ultimate user in an unfair position, since he has then assumed the status of the machinery designer and must, therefore, assume the responsibility of the success or failure of the operation of that piece of machinery. If the user selects a Class "C" crane for his job requirement, when actually a Class "B" crane can adequately handle the work load, he is not offering the most economic solution to his company and added little to the cranes service capabilities.

"In order to get a more comprehensive understanding of the interaction of fine fluorite particles and bubbles, the electro-flotation was conducted, a high speed CCD was used to determine the bubble size distribution, and the results were analyzed using the models of collision and attachment. The electro-flotation was performed in a modified Hallimond tube. The results show that for different fluorite with size of 0 -10µm, 10 -38µm, 38-74um, there is a matching range between the different particle sizes and cathode aperture size (38um, 38um, 74um) to reach highest recovery. In addition, improving the concentration of collector is benefit for the flotation recovery due to the ability of collector to decrease the bubble size and prevent the merger of bubbles. Furthermore, theoretical calculation of collision, adhesion probability and collection probability is in agreement with the experimental data for electro-flotation recovery of fluorite.INTRODUCTIONFluorite is widely distributed, and has been found in more than 40 countries around the world. As fluorite minerals are easy to float, flotation is used as the best method of the current recovery of fluorite (Yang and Ai, 2016; Chen et al., 2017). In the field of mineral processing, the flotation of fine particles is particularly difficult, caused by the small quality and large surface (Sun et al., 2006). Flotation is now considered to contain three subprocesses, including the collision, attachment and detachment between the particles and bubbles (Sun et al., 2011). The collision of particles with bubbles is related to factors such as particle size and density, bubble size, bubble rise rate (Qin et al., 2012). Zongfu Dai et al. (2000) summarized the particle-bubble collisions models in detail and compared the experiment results with the model predictions. However, particle-bubble interactions occur in complex and turbulent flotation environments (Xing et al., 2017). Both thermodynamics and dynamic factors affect the adhesion of particles on bubbles surface (Schulze, 1989; Shahbazi et al., 2010). Scheludko et al. (1976) believes that the necessary condition for successful adhesion of particles on bubbles is that the contact time is greater than the induction time. The probability of adhesion between particles and bubbles increases with the increase of bubble size, but if the particle size is too small, the probability of adhesion decreases instead (Ren, et al. 2014; Norori- McCormac et al., 2017). After the particles adhere to the bubble surface, the particles will slide down to the bottom of the bubble due to gravity. At this point, the gravity, inertial centrifugal force and fluid force promote the desorption of particles from the bubble surface, while the surface tension, surface hydrophobic force maintain the stability of particles-bubble combination (Ralston et al.,2017). In addition, in the process of rising to the foam layer, desorption can also occurs. The purpose of this study is to observe the flotation behavior of fine fluorite with different size and to get a more comprehensive understanding of the interaction of fine fluorite particles and bubbles."

The orange waste after lime water modification was converted into promising adsorbents for fluoride by metal loading reaction. The effectiveness and mechanism of fluoride adsorption on metal loaded orange waste gel from synthetic and real plating solution were investigated. Amount of zirconium(IV), aluminium(III), cerium(III), lanthanum(III), titanium(IV), vanadium(IV) and tin(IV) loaded on orange waste from aquearegia dissolution were evaluated to be 1.62, 1.16, 0.93, 0.95, 1.20, 1.12, 0.97 mmol/g respectively. The maximum adsorption capacity (qmax) of zirconium(IV), cerium(III), lanthanum(III), iron(III) and aluminium(III) loaded orange waste for fluoride ions were evaluated to be 1.74, 0.91, 1.07, 0.98 and 1.01 mmol/g from aqueous solution. The mechanism of fluoride adsorption by metal loaded orange waste was inferred to be ligand exchange reaction. Application of zirconium(IV) loaded saponified orange juice residue(SOJR) for real plating solution showed effective removal of trace concentration of fluoride down to the accepted standard. The negligible interference of co existing anions like nitrate, carbonate, sulphate and chloride makes zirconium(IV) loaded SOJR a promising sorbent for waste water treatment. The adsorbed fluoride from fluoride loaded zirconium(IV)-SOJR was effectively desorbed by using alkali solution for its regeneration. This work shed light on the potential application of metal loaded SOJR to remediate fluoride contaminated water for environmental relevance.

Analyses of samples of crude oil from fields in West Texas have been published from time to time in Bureau of Mines reports.3/ Analyses of 100 samples of crude oil from West Texas) collected during 1946 to 1952) are presented in this report. The production of crude oil from the fields in this portion of Texas totaled 381,129,000 barrels4/ during 1951 - an amount greater than that of any previous year. Total cumulative production of this area through 1951 was 2,792,692,000 barrels.5/ Table 1 gives monthly production figures for 1951 and yearly totals for the preceding 10 years (1942-1951) [ ]

In 2012, in response to an increasing potential unfunded liability, the Western Australian Government passed the Mining Rehabilitation Fund Act 2012. The intent of this Act was to introduce an annual levy on tenements covered under the Mining Act 1978 based on the area of disturbed land. The fund generated from these levies could then be used to rehabilitate mining sites where all other options to ensure rehabilitation had been exhausted. The fund could also be used to rehabilitate abandoned sites or features which, in Western Australia, number over 10 000.The Mining Rehabilitation Fund (MRF) was implemented on 1 July 2013 for an initial voluntary year. It becomes compulsory on 1 July 2014. By the end of March 2014, nine months into the voluntary period, over $6.5 million had been paid into the fund. The incentive for tenement holders to voluntarily enter the fund was the opportunity to have unconditional performance bonds held against their tenements retired. While there will be circumstances where bonds will continue to be applied, it is the State Government’s intention to retire most of the bonds.The MRF has received mostly accolades from industry and companies that have entered. Most have found the system easy to use. The MRF was also cited as a reason for Western Australia’s improved position in the Fraser Institute’s annual survey of mining jurisdictions. Work is now starting on processes to select priority abandoned mines for rehabilitation.This paper explains the background to the MRF and its development, and reviews its implementation during the first, voluntary, year. It also discusses how the fund will be managed into the future and what this will mean for both abandoned mine features across Western Australia and any future abandoned mine sites.CITATION:Leybourne, M L, 2014. The construction of rescue-apparatus on the principle of furnishing the wearer with air from a tank containing it under high pressure was given up by inventors about 20 years ago. Such an apparatus must supply continuously, for not less than two hours, nearly 50 liters of pure air at atmospheric pressure per minute, or a total of 6,000 liters (210 cu. ft.); and a cylinder containing this amount of air, under 2,000 lb. pressure, would weigh 180 lb. or more. Although apparatus has been recently constructed utilizing liquefied air, no experiments have been made to determine the regularity with which the air is generated, nor has its chemical composition been determined. Moreover, the chief objection to such an apparatus is the difficulty and cost of keeping on hand a large quantity of liquefied air. "Hardness" is an important yet diverse material physical property and is a key parameter in the mining industry in fields such as comminution, geotechnical and blast modelling. Several laboratory and field based measurement techniques exist to measure hardness (e.g. Point Load Testing, Vickers, Brinell, A*b, BMWi, UCS), all are designed for specific applications. Current tests are generally destructive and require specific sample preparation procedures which results in high cost tests that are not conducted in adequate quantities to map hardness across an ore body. The EQUOtip rebound hardness tester is a device that has been developed for application in ore body hardness domaining within the AMIRA P843 GeMIII Research Project. The rebound hardness test is non-destructive and suitable for application on half and whole diamond drill core. Data acquisition protocols and a data processing software application (EQProcess) have been developed to facilitate routine collection of comparative hardness information. This paper outlines the data acquisition and processing methodology and provides application examples of defining relative hardness domains in different geological deposit styles.
