Para ello, se revisa a través del ordenamiento de los procesos, la explotación y el aprovechamiento minero. Las variables que revelan el comportamiento de estos procesos, son la base para construir y aplicar un modelo de información gerencial. Asimismo, los procesos son el conjunto de datos que facilita la toma de decisiones respecto al cumplimiento de los programas aplazados. Dentro de estos tenemos: el de abastecimiento y producción, así como se demuestra el sistema de información gerencial: objetivos y características y los reportes.

According to the practice of mining management in the system of industrial complexes, the Kazakhstan gold mines are part of the mine processing industrial concerns providing ore-mining and ore-dressing. The cycle technology of winning operations used at the mining of vein deposits in the mines of the industrial concern is mainly provided by the systems of scrapping, scipping and electric locomotion. At present the information and computer system, elaborated on the basis of the Maikain underground mine is intended for creation of the system of automatic operation for the industrial complex mines. The information and computer system includes: - parametres characterising the accepted technology of works; - the main parametres characterising the technical devices of operation and control ; - information about the material, technical and personnel resources available at the mine; - mining and geological conditions of the deposit; - the facilities of the subsidiary units, of the mine; - the direct parametres and technico-economical indices in which the mine efficacy and activity is estimated. The suggested structure of the automatic operation system can be sensibly realized with the application of the microprocessor on the first level, the personal computer IBM PC/XT or PC/AT on the second level. For the complete realization of the project each mine will need 4-5 computers (as PC/XT), one IBM PC/AT and each mine complex - one super IBM for creation of the distributed information bank and its including in the integral world communication system.

In this paper, the scientific bases of creation of simulation modelling systems of excavator-truck-conveyor complex work are represented. During the simulation modelling process of big mining and transport systems work the strict and full account of an order and sequence of all operations of simulated process is carried out. Step-by-step fixing of mining and transport system elements condition - excavators in loading and unloading points, trucks, road section, unloading points in storage bin, crushers and conveyors is conducted. Work and idle time of system elements are considered. During modelling process the information characterising system work as a whole is collected. It allows us to establish qualitative and quantitative influence of each system element on the final results of its functioning and provides to estimate rationality of a particular organisation variant of mining and transport equipment interaction from technological positions. Simulation results are: economic and technological indicators of mining and transport complex functioning of the period for each subsystem, as well as on the road, the points of loading, unloading and reloading.

A new system for granting access to mineral rights is proposed in the recently released White Paper, ?A Minerals and Mining Policy for South Africa?. Official policy states that ?Government?s long-term objective is for all mineral rights to vest in the State for the benefit of and on behalf of all the people of South Africa?. In order to achieve this objective, government is presently investigating the feasibility of imposing a financial or tax-related disincentive to holding mineral rights. The paper aims to present the pros and cons and to examine the alternatives which will cause minimal disruption to the minerals industry in the period during which mineral rights are transferred to the State. South Africa is a country whose economic and political history is embedded in the development of its mineral resources and has inherited a system which cannot simply be wished away. Hasty or radical decisions will compound the problem, rather than provide a lasting and widely acceptable solution. Mineral rights ownership and its impact on access to mineral deposits are discussed. Taxation as a possible economic disincentive is also evaluated. Finally, the value of mineral resource related information as a prerequisite to mineral policy decisions and as an alternative to mineral rights taxation is emphasized.

The rapid and continuing expansion of computer and communication capability is giving birth to profound changes in the business environment. Some commentators hold that the basis of the world economy has already shifted from industry to information. Regardless of the overall implications of these changes, it is now clear that every company potentially has both access to and a need for much more information for decision making than was the case a few years ago. The importance of information to the mining industry has been underlined by the rash of unexpected economic and political developments and by the accompanying market volatility that have marked the past decade. It should be abundantly clear to even the smallest mine operator that the price for his output can be instantly affected by unexpected developments halfway across the world. Nevertheless, many mining companies still are much less sophisticated about information than they might be. For many, the historical feeling that information is an unnecessary luxury for a production-oriented business still seems to linger. On the other hand, the overwhelming volume of source material, uncertainty as to its accuracy, and the problems of finding relevant material when needed, presents stumbling blocks to viable systems of information management. Introduction When a company needs certain information, it has two basic alternatives. It can either research and develop the information in-house or pay for someone else to do it. Few mining companies have the in-house capability to assemble information needed for careful planning. On the other hand, companies often engage consultants to find information that is in fact easily accessible. All too often companies give up on procuring needed information because of the frustration of not being able to find it, and of not wanting to pay seemingly exorbitant sums for someone else to produce it. The result is poor planning. This article addresses two aspects of the information problem-finding the right sources and then accessing the particular information desired, especially as it pertains to nonferrous metal exploration and development issues. In the first section, major English-language sources that report on exploration and development (excluding primary sources of geological information, such as technical journals) are discussed.* In the second section, some available techniques for efficiently accessing this information are presented, focusing on the new MINESEARCH database system. Part One: The Information Following the News The most obvious way to follow exploration and mining developments from a distance is through regular mining media. Many active mining districts have local newspapers, usually published in the district's major towns, that give extensive coverage to miningrelated activities. For instance, to follow activities in Idaho's Coeur d'Alene silver district, one might subscribe to the Kellogg Wardner News and/or the Wallace Miner. Similarly, one might get the Sacramento Bee for news of current mining developments in north-central California. The American Metal Market, published in New York, is the daily newspaper that covers the metals industry as a whole, both in the US and abroad. Its coverage is weighted towards the refining, manufacturing, and consumption end of the business, but it frequently carries stories on mining activity, company dealings, and market outlooks. For news of major mining companies, the daily Wall Street Journal provides occasional coverage of North American companies, while the Financial Times of London serves as probably the best single source for worldwide company information. International Coverage There are three metals industry weeklies that have broad international coverage and readership. These are Metal Week, Metal Bulletin, and Mining Journal. Each has its strengths. Metals Week, a McGraw-Hill newsletter, focuses primarily on news of the metals markets, concentrating on those developments that are seen to most directly affect the price of nonferrous metals. The Reconstruction and Research Division of the United States Council of National Defense has, up to date, prepared two reviews on the above subjects: one covers foreign countries and the other covers the activities in the States. These reviews contain information appearing in various Governmental and public periodicals. While the information on foreign countries is necessarily incomplete and fragmentary, its summation is perhaps the most complete work of this kind so far accomplished. The information from the states consists mainly of bills and ordinances introduced in the state legislature, municipal councils, legislature committee reports, programs suggested by governors, and other state and local officials and local organizations It is realized that a good deal of this information will be useful to engineers studying conditions in the various states, and especially to those who want an insight into the general condition in all the states. For instance, the reconstruction problem in each state involving highway, reclamation, buildings, etc., are covered in detail.

The primary objective of this paper is to discuss the hazards and furnish a list of recommendations for the safe operation of quarries and related works. They have been compiled from Bureau of Mines publications covering the safety experience of engineers before and during the year in the mineral industry,5 from a publication of the National Safety Council, Inc.,6 from explosives recommendations made by various explosives manufacturers,7 and from suggestions obtained from quarries visited. The second objective is to describe and illustrate safety devices, practices, and quarrying methods. The quarrying and related industries of the United States had a lower accident-frequency rate than either the metal- or coal-mining industry as reported for 1942.8 However, the quarry industry ranked eleventh in 15 major industries during 1942 in lost-time accident fre¬quency; metal mining ranked fourteenth and coal mining fifteenth.

The key issue is the comprehensiveness of the information presented to users. Information can be presented by virtual reality means, when the seemingly true presentation of the production process scene along with user friendly presentation of related information is available. The user in its role of a process supervisor is not only a mere scene observer but, thanks to the interactive functions of virtual environment, he participates in the scene of his control. The most striking innovations on diaphragm-wall construction plant are those associated with continuous real-time trajectory monitoring of the excavating tool (either a grab or a hydro-cutter). The recent equipments are fitted with clinometers and gyrometers to control deflection, rotation or deviation from the vertical, thus allowing to install diaphragm-walls with a verticality accuracy of less than 0.3%. One of the greatest advantages of extensive use of on-board IT systems on the Hydrocutters and hydraulic grab machines is that it aids quality control by automatically producing complete real-time reports of all excavating data (verticality, depth, type of ground, rate of progress, stoppages, etc.). These reports are available to the Engineer, providing the total transparency required for Works Supervision and the Quality Assurance Plan. They also provide the Contractor with input data for databases used for optimising efficiency and progress criteria on future jobs.

The information age has definitely arrived and in fact has only begun to affect our business processes. Traditionally mining companies have been innovators and leaders with technology, but applying information technology systems to machines directly working on the mining extraction process poses challenges to those introducing the technology. Caterpillar is now presenting machine guidance and information systems for dozers, graders, blast hole drills, shovels, excavators, wheel loaders and trucks. These systems simply increase the flow of real information in real time and deliver it to the end users who can make informed decisions that effect real productivity gains and at the same time eliminate the role of the middle manager who used to monitor and control these activities. Technology also offers cultural changes that appear intangible, but offer significant gains to those that implement technology. Critics state that these intangible benefits are still available to traditional processes, however these intangible elements are never identified nor managed without the introduction of technology enhanced processes. The benefits of these technologies are real and dramatic, existing users offer impressive testimonials, but still the technology can be disproportionate in the time it takes to introduce to an operation. Caterpillar finds that senior to executive management needs to be a part of the technology introduction, to coordinate all departments and set technology strategies.

"The Mining Information Technology User Group considers information to be a strategic enabler to improved business performance in mining. This ad hoc group has been meeting since 2000 to share knowledge and leverage their efforts in effectively using IT in mining. In this paper, core issues to mining IT are reviewed, along with initiatives to engage industry professionals and decision-makers in the potential for improved use of information in their operations. Relevance of IT to Canadian MiningMining operations always drive to improve their performance, and so far they have succeeded by using different technologies. While economies of scale have come in fragmentation and material handling, and energy usage has improved through conservation and design of integrated mineral processing plants, these systems have the net result of tightening operational constraints, through reduced excess capacity. There are higher opportunity costs of lost production when integrated, large-scale systems are operating in a sub-optimal way.The problem is that it is profoundly difficult to run a mine in an optimal way. Optimization requires a defined objective function (e.g., profit), which is hard to pose, let alone solve, because so many inter-related aspects of an operation affect the bottom line. Even for a small, well-defined process state, it is difficult to measure all the pertinent information with sufficient accuracy to ensure that the system is performing well in real time.The art of mining remains making good decisions with uncertainty: in the orebody delineation; in the allocation of resources; in the efficiency of the operation; in the reliability of components and systems; and in responding to the downstream market. As well, individual decision-makers need to know how their decisions affect other processes and systems, so that improvements in one part of an operation do not result in such degraded performance in the rest of the plant that overall profitability goes down."

Durante el desarrollo cotidiano de una operación minera, se obtienen diversos tipos de información como: muestreo, perforación diamantina, etc. las cuales, se originan en base a observaciones de campo. En ese sentido, es vital desarrollar procedimientos adecuados que permitan administrar la información compilada. Por ello, el presente trabajo señala la aplicación de la administración de datos geológicos en la empresa minera Iscaycruz. La información de datos geológicos se puede administrar en formatos tipo gráfico o en bases de datos, por lo cual se requiere que la estructura de almacenamiento de dichos formatos contenga parámetros previamente analizados. Asimismo, es necesario que el equipo de trabajo organize la base de datos, a través de los objetivos y metas trazadas, así como de la verificación y análisis de los resultados, para mantener actualizada la información.

El presente trabajo señala la función de la informatización en el planeamiento y control de minado de taladros largos en la unidad minera Iscaycruz. El proceso facilita el diseño y planeamiento de perforación de los taladros largos y permite la identificación de los problemas en el minado de los tajeos y las medidas correctivas en forma rápida y oportuna. Así también posibilita el tratamiento electrónico de la información, economiza recursos y facilita la integración de las bases de datos de las diferentes áreas que intervienen en la producción.

A utilização da tecnologia na gestão dos processos de produção em forjaria, torna-se cada vez mais imprescindível para se manter competitivo no setor automotivo. Com isso, a necessidade de ferramentas tecnológicas se faz presente para obter controles ágeis e recursos otimizados. A informatização é uma destas ferramentas que podem ser usadas na gestão da produção no setor automotivo. Esta permite que os gestores consigam monitorar em tempo real a produção e caso necessário intervir no processo de forma ágil para eliminar ou diminuir as não conformidades durante a produção. Este trabalho discute a informatização da gestão da produção em uma forjaria no setor automotivo e a importância das ferramentas tecnológicas aplicadas como suporte a gestão. Apresenta-se um caso real aplicado no setor, onde a informatização apresentou ganhos de acesso à informação e agilidade na tomada de decisão. Neste, realiza-se uma comparação do processo de gestão manual com a proposta de informatização. Como resultado, verificou que as ferramentas tecnológicas aplicadas possibilitaram melhorar fortemente a gestão durante o processo produtivo e mostrou-se superior nos quesitos de qualidade e tempo para difundir a informação, bem como reduzir custos operacionais.

El presente texto señala las posibildades técnicas y económicas en la instalación de una refinería de zinc y una fundición de plomo en el Perú. Para ello, se revisan los problemas técnicos que comprende (la materia prima y la elaboración). Respecto a los yacimientos y considerando como norma las extracciones actuales, se asegura la existencia de materias primas para un espacio prolongado de tiempo dentro de un período mínimo de 20 años. Asimismo, la calidad de las menas no sufrirá ninguna variación fundamental en este espacio de tiempo y las plantas de preparación existentes estarán en condiciones de suministrar a la nueva fundición suficientes concentrados, tanto en cantidad como en calidad.
