Durante el desarrollo cotidiano de una operación minera, se obtienen diversos tipos de información como: muestreo, perforación diamantina, etc. las cuales, se originan en base a observaciones de campo. En ese sentido, es vital desarrollar procedimientos adecuados que permitan administrar la información compilada. Por ello, el presente trabajo señala la aplicación de la administración de datos geológicos en la empresa minera Iscaycruz. La información de datos geológicos se puede administrar en formatos tipo gráfico o en bases de datos, por lo cual se requiere que la estructura de almacenamiento de dichos formatos contenga parámetros previamente analizados. Asimismo, es necesario que el equipo de trabajo organize la base de datos, a través de los objetivos y metas trazadas, así como de la verificación y análisis de los resultados, para mantener actualizada la información.

After smelting, the associated mineral ore accompanying Valuable Metal Compounds (VMC),such as titania and borate in BF., most of the VMC were separated from the metal into the molten slag that is an associated slags. Based on several case studies in laboratories and in a practice in a pilot plant on the associated slags , there occur a feasibility to recovery VMC from the slags by anew process- Selective Precipitation Technique (SPT) on which three continuous steps are involved: (1) The selective enriching the dispersed VMC into a designed mineral phase in the molten slag; (2) The selective coarsening the designed mineral phase with large crystal grain size;(3) The selective separating the coarsen phase from tailing by mineral dressing or hydrometallurgical process . Some results on the recovering the VMC from the associated slags by SPT were summarized as examples in present paper. Experimental studies on viscosity of titanium bearing slags have been reviewed and the assessed data were used in extending the capability of the structurally related viscosity model for silicate melts, developed by the present authors. Experimental data on ternary and higher order systems containing CaO, MgO, MnO, FeO, Al2O3, TiO2, Ti2O3, SiO2were assessed and used. The newly extended viscosity model represented the viscosity behaviour over broad temperature and composition ranges. The structural role played by TiO2and Ti2O3in silicate network structure is discussed with respect to their effect on viscosity of melts. In general, overall experience has shown that the approach to the appointment of a project manager is given much attention, but little specific attention is given first to the risk associated with the project conceptual design and its overall executability within either the new legislative framework or the sustainability of the outcome. The risk in project executability and sustainability within the ?new age? legislative framework of the Mining Charter, etc, is itself however, of far greater importance. The degree of importance being defined by the intended projects impact on the business going forward. This is particularly the case where the intention of the implementation is effectively to turn around or even enhance a loss-making strategic investment like a mine or process plant operation in an ?old-order rights? or Brownfield?s operation. This paper attempts to highlight the importance of a ?pre-project project? (PPP) to mitigate the risk in the ?new age?, with specific reference to operational due diligence (ODD) and project conceptual design.

The main objective of this work was to develop, at a laboratory scale, a process for treating residues from the settling stage of water treatment so as to remove and recover the aluminium as sulphate. The chemical analysis of residues from different water treatment plants indicated that the aluminium content varied from 15 to 20 per cent w/w. By using the appropriate experimental conditions, it was found to be possible to leach most of the aluminium content. The pH value of the recovered water was suitable for it to be recycled to the water treatment process and the residue appears to be suitable as raw material for bricks. The process developed contributes to the sustainability of the water treatment process.

Worldwide TiO2is extracted from natural ilmenite, rutile, and anatase minerals via the sulphateand chloride processes. The sulphate process generates large volumes of less toxic wastes, whereas the chloride process, including the ilmenite-chloride process of DuPont, yields much lower volume of wastes, which are highly toxic and hazardous. The treatment and disposal of such hazardous chloride wastes is both expensive and difficult in terms of long-term monitoring. Besides the waste management and disposal, there is also a shortage of high-grade titanium dioxide minerals in nature, which consequently yields much larger tonnages of sulphate and chloride wastes. In the present investigation we report the results of an alternative titaniferous mineral beneficiation process based on soda ash roasting of minerals. Compared to the conventional processes for beneficiation of TiO2- ores, the alkali roasting of titaniferous offers several advantages including the zero process wastes. In the soda ash roasting process, the mineral is mixed with sodium carbonate and heated above 1023 K in air. The oxidative roasting of ores yields several complex alkali compounds, some of which produce a liquid mixture above 1123 K. In this paper, we have attempted to characterize the composition and physical chemistry of alkali-rich liquid phase. The phase equilibria in the Ti-(M:Fe)-Na-O system are evaluated and compared with the phases formed as a result of roasting reaction. The experimental results revealed that the composition of complex alkali liquid at the reaction interface plays an important role in determining the transport of O2-ions and decomposition of ilmenite. The roles of the crystal structure of mineral phases and their energetics are also emphasized in controlling their decomposition during alkali roasting. The presence of molten alkali in controlling the partitioning of water-soluble alkali salts and insoluble sodium titanate is also explained. The SINTEF SiO-reactivity test, developed by Tuset and Raaness in the 1970?s, is a recognised method of characterising the ?reactivity? of carbonaceous reactants, used in the ferrosilicon and silicon metal industries. Recently, the test has been updated, which has resulted in the development of an extended and improved SINTEF SiO reactivity test. This has included updating the test reactor, control system, data-logging, handling and preparation of carbonaceous materials to be tested and measurement procedure. The scientific basis has been re-assessed, resulting in a new interpretation of the test results. The repeatability of the test has improved significantly, especially through system automation. In the ?old? test, the kinetics of the reaction: SiO(g) + 2C(s) = SiC(s) + CO(g) for a specific carbonaceous material was characterised solely by the ?R10? parameter, the volume of SiO(g) which passes un-reacted through the coke-bed as the concentration of CO in the outlet gas decreases from 18 to 10%. As both the kinetics and obtainable conversion of SiO to SiC for a reductant is of importance to the ferroalloy producer, the new SINTEF SiO reactivity test ranks carbon materials both according to degree of conversion and reaction rate. From research carried out on the test in the past couple of years at SINTEF and NTNU, it has also become clear that some of the reactions taking place in the test reactor are more complex than previously assumed. As an example, it was previously assumed that the condensation reaction of SiO gas in the condensation chamber of the test reactor can be described as: 2 SiO(g) = Si(l,s) + SiO2(s). However, it has been established that the side-reaction: CO(g) + 2Si(l) = SiC(s) + SiO(g) causes approximately 10% of the total volume of CO to react to SiC and SiO2 in the condensation chamber. This means that some back-reaction i.e., the reverse SiO-generator reaction 3SiO(g) + CO(g) = 2SiO2 + SiC also takes place in the condensation chamber. In the new SINTEF test, the %CO versus time curves are therefore corrected in order to describe the effect of the reaction between SiO(g) and C(s) studied i.e., SiO(g) + 2C(s) = SiC(s) + CO(g). A correction-formula for this purpose is presented.

UOCK bursts are a phenomenon about which insufficient is known. This l.~ statement has a twofold meaning. In the first place, far too many people, both inside and outside of the mining industry, are woefully ignorant of the whole subject, and secondly, as those who are face to face with the problem in the mines realize, our knowledge of rock bursts is inadequate. The first group embraces the general public, who have never been enlightened on the subject, and a great many geologists and engineers who have never shown more than a curiosity about it. Such technical men do not realize what a vital problem it is to our mining industries. They are usually thankful that bursting ground is not their problem, and leave it to those unfortunate enough to run into it. From such men one often hears the pious opinion that if proper mining methods were used there would be no problem. It is hoped that this paper will give these people a different viewpoint. Those in the second group deserve much credit for what they have done and are doing. They are fighting a large and difficult problem. In the pages that follow, I have tried to give a bird's-eye view of that problem, and suggest new ways in which it may be attacked.

This paper presents the specific features of the large-scale production and transportation systems (LSPTS), describing the main notions and characteristics of the LSPTS elements. A methodologically unitary approach of the formulation, formalization and solution of the problems regarding the planning of the LSPTS structure development is offered, based on the system description by the aggregation-decomposition method, as weil as on the complex of interreloted models for the planning optimization. The paper describes the characteristics of the complex of dynamic models for investments, utilized in solving the planning problems of the LSPTS structure development.

The use of discrete element modelling (DEM) is widespread in the materials handling field, and is used for many applications. One of the important limitations in using DEM is the number of particles that can be modelled, with this limitation often resulting in increasing the minimum particle size in the simulation. This restriction on minimum particle size is usually accommodated in the calibration process where the parameters in the simulation are chosen in such a way as to reflect the presence of smaller sized particles, and in typical applications such as transfer chutes this is standard practice. However, in the application of vibrating screens the inclusion of the ‘fines’ is critically important due to their influence on the screening efficiency. In reality, the presence of fines reduces the screening efficiency for a number of reasons; however, the main mechanism that will be addressed in this study is the effect of adhering fines. This is where the fines adhere to the larger particles and are carried over into the lump stream. The approach for this study will be to firstly consider the relatively simple mechanical sieving process used in the determination of particle size distribution, and then this will be expanded to consider the application of vibrating screens.CITATION:Donohue, T J, Chen, W, Katterfeld, A and Reid, S, 2017. "INTRODUCTION Wright Engineers Limited is active and has extensive experience in the design of pressure oxidation plants for the treatment of refractory gold ore and concentrate. In addition to the Mercur oxidation facility, similar projects undertaken during the last few years include the 3000 ton per day acid oxidation plant for the Getchell Mine, Nevada, a concentrate treatment autoclave for Asamera in 1984 and a feasibility study of a 50-tons per day autoclave plant for Consolidated Professor's Duport property in Ontario. The Equity Silver antimony and arsenic precipitation autoclaves, and the low pressure autoclaves at Key Lake Uranium in Northern Saskatchewan were also engineered by Wright in recent years.In August 1986, Wright was retained by Barrick Resources (U.S.A.) Inc. to add a 750 tpd pressure oxidation circuit to the existing mill at their Mercur Gold Mine, Utah. This paper describes this facility and outlines the start up in the spring of 1988 and subsequent successful operation. MERCUR OPERATION The Barrick Mercur Gold Mine is located at the south end of the Oquirrh Mountains in Tooele County, Utah. The carbon-in-leach (CIL) process plant camnenced operation in 1983 with a design throughput of 3000 tpd and has since been expanded to handle rrore than 5000 tpd. 'IWo ore types are mined, an oxide ore and a refractory ore, which is by Barrick's definition ""an ore from which less than 60% gold extraction is achieved by a standard CIL amenability test."" Typical of many sulphidic/carbonaceous ores, the refractory gold does not respond well to the cyanidation process. As a result, refractory ore has been stockpiled since the start of mining. As of June 1987, Mercur had about 570,000 tons of refractory ore stockpiled and 5.7 million tons of proven and probable reserves, grading 0.06 oz/t including approximately 3.5 million tons of tailings from the previous operation grading 0.55 oz/t. In 1986, Barrick decided to build a 750 ton per day pressure oxidation plant to process these ores. The process, for which a patent was granted, comprises pressure oxidation of the sulphides in an alkaline environment. It was developed in 1981 but was set aside in preference of a CIL plant treating only oxide ores by the previous owner of the property, Getty Oil. This process is capable of increasing gold recovery from the refractory ore from as low as 35% by conventional CIL processing to more than 85%. In 1986 Wright Engineers was engaged to undertake a feasibility study based on batch testing. This lead to a decision by Barrick Mercur later that year to build the commercial pressure oxidation plant. Wright was awarded the contract for engineering, procurement, construction managernent and commissioning in March 1987. The plant was mechanically complete in January 28, 1988, and was in operation by February 1988."

The utilization of blast furnace and BOF slags has long traditions and well-known applications in the building and road construction industries and in soil conditioning. The starting point for product development has been the basic physico-chemical properties of slags. This development has led to the almost 100% utilization of blast furnace slags and also considerable amounts of steel slags. While new methods and applications are continuously being looked for and developed in order to recycle and utilize all types of slag, there is at the same time an increasing debate over the exact nature of the slags, whether they are products or waste material, and whether they should be considered substances or preparations. These questions have emerged as a consequence of the environmental effects of the slags and current environmental legislation. The environmental effects of slags can be seen to be both beneficial and less beneficial. There is no doubt about their benefits in the road construction industry, as they allow significant savings in terms of natural materials and in transportation. It is also a known fact that using slags as fertilizers and in the cement industry leads to reduction in CO2emissions. The less favourable effects are the possible harmful emissions into the soil and groundwater. In this paper we describe the properties of slag products and their environmental effects according to investigations carried out in Finland. The Kennecott Ridgeway Mine in South Carolina is scheduled to complete mining and ore processing in the last quarter of 1999. Tailings are disposed in a 300 acre, lined tailings impoundment. To facilitate closure and reclamation, modification of the tailings impoundment operation has been adopted. Mining involved the sequenced development of two open pits. In 1996 mining of the South Pit was completed and backfilling of the pit with waste rock from the North Pit was initiated and will continue until mining ceases. Both pits will be reclaimed as fresh water lakes. This paper presents the physical, geochemical and hydrogeochemical evaluation of the operational and post operational management of the project. Comparison of the operational monitoring data against predicted performance is reviewed.

"Blast furnace performance depends strongly on the coke reactivity index(CRI) and coke strength after reaction (CSR) properties. An innovative and cost-effective method, known as the Salem Box Test, has been developed to prevent the mass production of inferior coke unsuitable for blast furnace use. This method consists of coal carbonization on a micro-scale and involves charging approximately 18 kg of coal blend in a stainless steel box, carbonizing it together with coal cake in the plant coke ovens, and testing the coke produced for CRI and CSR to determine its suitability for blast furnace use. Only coal blends that yield coke with CRI <25% and CSR >64% are permitted for mass production, and other coal blends are either rejected or the blending ratios adjusted in an attempt to upgrade them. The experimental results reveal that, for a given coal blend, the quality of coke produced by the Salem Box Test is comparable with that produced by bulk production, indicating that the test is acceptable as a screening tool for regular use. The present paper describes the methodology and application of Salem Box Test to predict the suitability of coke for blast furnace use at JSW Steel Limited, Salem Works (JSWSL), and illustrates its advantages in adjusting the coal blending ratio to produce superior coke, in detecting coal contamination, and in preventing bulk production of inferior coke."

Quartz, adularia and clay minerals from low-sulfidation epithermal veins at Hishikari were analyzed for their oxygen and hydrogen stable isotope compositions to establish the source of paleohydrothermal waters. Positive correlation between Au-Ag and adularia: quartz ratio, the presence of quartz pseudomorphs of bladed calcite, and Au-bearing smectite and vermiculite is indicative, but not definitive, evidence for the control of boiling on ore mineralization. Oxygen isotope equilibrium temperatures between quartz and adularia are about 220¦C and average homogenization temperatures of fluid inclusions vary between 190 to 210¦C. The calculated d18OH2O and dDH2O values (from quartz, adularia and early smectite) are consistent with paleohydrothermal fluids that were a mixture of magmatic and meteoric waters, or alternatively, the values could derive from heated meteoric water which had undergone isotope exchange during circulation through basement rock. Overall, d18Oqtz values in veins increase toward the north, most likely reflecting palaeo-fluid flow (source).

The Faculty of Engineering at the University of New South Wales (UNSW) offers a core first-year engineering design and innovation course, ENGG1000, undertaken during the first and second semesters. This course is highly regarded in the sense that it provides an introduction to many concepts and activities that students will experience over the four-year minimum for which they are undergraduates at UNSW. Approximately 1400 students enrol in the semester 1 course across the Faculty, typically 80 of which undertake the Mining Engineering stream. Students in teams of between six and eight design and construct a physical model to represent an aspect of their chosen discipline. For example, in 2013 the mining engineers designed and built a model dragline. This paper concentrates a major aspect of the course ? the involvement of team members in group activities and the development of the associated skills of peer assessment and peer review as the course progresses over a period of 12 weeks. The term ?peer assessment? in this paper refers to the requirement for students to assess the design components of their peers. This course has a structured requirement in terms of how a successful design is a result of a sound design process rather than a ?try and see? approach. Each student must describe in detail the process they undertook to achieve their final design ? hence the approach is independent of the discipline and/or project selected. Peer review is a process whereby students review the contribution of their team members to the overall design. This activity encourages team involvement and interaction. The final assessment mark can be moderated by the outcome of this peer review, although it is run twice during the semester. The first ?run? is for feedback only during week six and hence no moderation is undertaken. It was found through consultation with students and from questionnaires that both processes are well accepted and highly regarded by students, as they give them a degree of ownership of the assessment process. In addition, the processes provide rapid and relevant feedback on the progress of individual students. Peer review and peer assessment are also considered to be very valuable tools for use in courses in succeeding years. For instance, many of the courses in mining engineering rely heavily on group assessment tasks.

The effect of water infusion on the flow of methane and on the production of dust was investigated at an active face in the Pittsburgh coalbed. The average total flow of methane at the face decreased by approximately 79 percent, whereas the flow from the ribs increased about 24 percent after infusion. On the day after infusion, dust concentrations appear to have been reduced; however, the presence of large quantities of rock dust obscured the results on the following days.

Three well-known copper and gold deposits in northern Luzon, Philippines are located in the Mankayan Mineral District. These are the Lepanto Copper-Gold Deposit, the Far Southeast Porphyry Copper Deposit and the newly discovered Victoria Gold Deposit. The latter discovery led LCMC to shift from a predominantly copper mine to a gold mine. The pre-Eocene Lepanto basement andesite and the middle Miocene Balili volcaniclastic sequence underlie the Mankayan Mineral District. They are intruded by tonalitic to gabbroic Bagon Intrusive followed by diorite-quartz diorite intrusions. Diatreme emplacement of late Miocene-early Pliocene Imbanguila dacite pyroclastics and porphyries took place much later. Faults in the district mostly form a conjugate fracture pattern dominated by north and northwest trending shears, east-west trending extensional fractures and few north-south trending fissures. Victoria is an epithermal gold-base metal rich quartz vein deposit. The veins occur along tensional structures and it is common to observe crustiform and banded features among the sulphides and gangue minerals. It is an open space infilling type of mineralisation. The Victoria vein systems are divided into zones based on continuity. In each zone are major veins and associated spits. Dacite pyroclastics and porphyries predominantly host the major veins with a few narrow veins hosted by the Balili volcaniclastics and the Lepanto metavolcanics. The veins generally trend east-northeast with 75 - 80 dips towards the south. The longest vein can be traced fairly continuously for a horizontal distance of about 600 metres. The vertical persistence of major veins exposed on three level drives has a range of 150 metres and can reach as much as 400 metres based on drill hole intercepts. The vein widths vary from two to eight metres. Right lateral movements of either the NW or NE shear faults could have produced the east trending tensional fractures. The development of ore shoot patterns was recognised and has been helpful to the mining operations. Cymoid loops with defined pinch and swell features are noted both laterally and vertically. Complementing the structural pattern is the distribution of gold values along veins where lateral and vertical continuity is also observed. Gold is associated with quartz, sphalerite, galena and chalcopyrite. In relatively high gold zones, the abundant sulphides are sphalerite and galena. In relatively high copper zones, there is an abundance of chalcopyrite and tetrahedrite. Galena is always associated with sphalerite but less in abundance. Chalcopyrite occurs either as separate bands from or associated with sphalerite-galena. Chalcopyrite and tetrahedrite appears contemporaneous with sphalerite and galena but in some portions the former cuts the latter sulphides. The predominant gangue minerals are quartz, carbonates and gypsum. Rhodochrosite is the predominant carbonate gangue. Few sulphides are found in the carbonates. Gypsum (anhydrite) is found cross-cutting early mineralisation. It carries very few sulphides. The alteration halos around veins are relatively narrow. In an outward sequence, the silicic alteration occurs very near the veins, followed by sericitic-argillic alteration then to propylitic zones. It is also common to observe veins bounded by propylitic alteration. Preliminary paragenetic studies show apparent three stages of mineralisation, the early-quartz (-gold) stage followed by a carbonate stage and a late-gypsum stage. The abundance of base metals relatively decreases towards the gypsum stage. The Victoria gold deposit could have some genetic associations with the Lepanto Cu-Au deposit and probably indirectly with the FSE porphyry system. It is relatively apparent that the Victoria quartz-gold-base metal veins could have occurred similarly as the quartz-gold roots overprinting the Lepanto enargite mineralisation. This overprinting signifies the waning stages of the entire hydrothermal system.
