O conceito de ativo crítico para o projeto é de um instrumento cuja falha paralisa a produção.

The township of Cloncurry is situated in the northwestern part of Queensland, about latitude S. 20" 42' 53" and longitude E. 140" 30' 25". Townsville is the port through which all the trade passes and is about 470 miles east-northeast of Cloncurry township. The Cloncurry copper district covers an area about 200 miles long by 40 miles wide. Unfortunately the mines are very scattered over this area, there being no large groups of mines. Mount Elliott mine is situated about 70 miles south from the township of Cloncurry, and Mount Oxide mine about 150 miles north of Cloncurry. The district has been known for the last 35 years, and in the early stages a large amount of capital was expended with little to show for it; but within the last four years the railway has been extended from Townsville to Mount Elliott and about 40 miles north of Cloncurry, which has made possible the treatment of the ores of the mines on this extension. The Mount Elliott company within the last few years has smelted and converted on its mine 169,688 tons of ore for 20,554 tons of blister copper, containing 20,377 tons of copper, 35,642 oz. of gold and 28,841 oz. of silver, at a cost of about 233 per ton of blister copper, f.o.b. Townsville. This cost included all development, wages, salaries, general management, office, agency, legal expenses, freight, etc. The gold and silver contents would practically pay for freight to Europe, refining, realization charges, etc. The costs of supplies are as follows: Firewood, 15s., coke, 75s., mine timber, 54s., and coal, 60s. per long ton; explosives: dynamite and gelignite, 50s., and blasting gelatine, 65s. 6d. per case, Mount Elliott Mine The pay shoot of the orebody outcrops at the surface for about 200 ft., and lies between two slate walls about 40 ft. apart., having a general

O objetivo deste trabalho foi estudar a variabilidade do depósito de zinco sulfetado do projeto Ambrósia Sul, da Votorantim Metais localizado em Paracatu - Minas Gerais, frente aos processos de beneficiamento e poder, assim, detalhar o comportamento geometalúrgico dos vários corpos de minério do depósito. Além do estudo da variabilidade dos corpos de minério, o trabalho também inclui testes em escala de bancada durante anos e semestres de operação: 2016, 2017/01, 2017/02, 2018/01, 2018/02, 2019. A metodologia do estudo é resumida nas fases de amostragem de testemunho de sondagem, composição das amostras representativas dos corpos de minério e anos e semestres de operação da mina, testes de moagem, peneiramento, flotação de bancada e caracterização mineralógica da alimentação e produtos dos testes. O teste de bancada desenvolvido neste trabalho, tem como objetivo principal verificar variações significativas entre os corpos mineralizados e/ou semestres de mina de operação, tornando possível identificar potenciais oportunidades de otimização do circuito de tratamento de minérios, maximizando o retorno financeiro de toda a jazida mineral.

Hong Kong is one of the most rapidly developing cities in the world. With constant population growth and limited opportunities for space, the development of a fast and effective underground public transportation network is essential. Hong Kong’s Mass Transit Railway (MTR) Corporation is currently undertaking several large underground expansions to its existing network. Much of the excavation will be carried out using the drill and blast excavation method.Drill and blast excavation is common in Hong Kong and with the continued development of underground infrastructure the use of the drill and blast excavation method will increase. Although an effective method of excavation, the blasting vibrations caused during construction can have an adverse impact on surrounding structures and impose disruption on the local community.In order to minimise the risks associated with blasting vibrations, and to demonstrate that the impact on local stakeholders will remain within acceptable limits, it is generally necessary for a contractor to submit a blasting assessment report for approval by government authorities before blasting may commence.Continued increases in population density will force more infrastructure to be constructed underground. Tunnels and caverns are increasingly excavated in closer proximity to critical sensitive receivers. This leads to greater potential impacts on the community, tightening constraints on contractors and a higher level of confidence required for approval authorities. Finding a balance between the needs of the community and rising construction costs becomes more challenging.This paper presents a case study on how the blasting assessment report process has been successfully implemented for a major MTR project situated in a densely developed area of Hong Kong. It describes several methods of assessing blasting vibration impacts, innovative uses of blasting for excavation and the mitigation measures employed to provide the best outcome for all project stakeholders.CITATION:Bedford, N and Muir, J W, 2014. In this paper, an innovative approach was adopted to automatically calculate the effects of tunnel induced settlement on buildings and utilities. The approach resulted in increased output quality, consistency, reduced time, cost savings and a greater ability to respond quickly to design changes. The techniques described have been applied to the Fairbank Silverthorn Storm Trunk Sewer System project, located within the City of Toronto. The automation allowed a very large area of topography, tunnels (6 km), buildings (9000) and utilities (over 1000) to be rapidly evaluated. Visualization of the settlements and impacts also allowed the project design team to optimize the system design to mitigate the settlement impacts.

Smelters of medium or low grade tin concentrates must recover a high proportion of tin from iron-bearing slags or concentrates; the volatility of tin sulphide makes possible the production of iron-free tin fume. Laboratory work defined conditions which would promote the sulphidisation of tin slags and concentrates melted with them, to result in tin recovery as fume, and a residue of less than 0.5% Sn content, which could be controlled to vary with the value of tin. Subsequently pilot-plant work on 6-tonne and 15-tonne scale led to a commercial plant of 45 tonne. capacity (1962), for melting and fuming primary and secondary low-grade tin materials by submerged combustion. Some factors contributing to the rate of Working expressed in terms of the 'half-life and the amount of work done, the 'half-life-tonne' are studied, leading to the design and operation (1972) of the 100-tonne water-jacketed unit, presently in use, treating a wide range of slags and low tin-content ores and residues.

A simple algebraic method of aligning large scale underground excavations such as a crusher station or workshop or indeed any large cavern or mine layout to the optimal stress condition is outlined. The method uses the stress transformation law to determine how the component stresses vary as the stress tensor is rotated around its axis. The aim is to define the orientations at which the maximum and minimum horizontal stresses occur such that the excavation can be aligned with its long axis paralleling the trend of the maximum horizontal stress leading to the minimum potential for overstressing of the side walls. The physical environment in which the stress field is acting is unchanged. At the design location, the trend and plunge of the major principal stress is unchanged. However, the coordinate system by which the location of the stress field is described is arbitrary and the stress transformation law allows that coordinate system to be rotated to a more convenient orientation and for the component stresses to be calculated within the alterative coordinate system. The stress field is typically described in terms of normal and shear stresses aligned to a north–south, east–west, vertical, coordinate system. In this scenario, there are two orientations in the 360° horizontal plane defined by the coordinate system where the horizontal normal stresses are equal, and at 45° to those orientations, two orientations where they diverge to the maximum extent. Those orientations of maximum divergence correspond to the trend of the maximum and minimum horizontal stresses, usually designated σH and σh, and that is what the algebraic manipulation seeks to determine. This technique is a first pass assessment which relies on a knowledge of the full stress tensor. It is not a replacement for numerical modelling or detailed design, but a tool to guide planning.

INTRODUCTION In both the United States and Canada, a company making a public offering of securities must comply with regulations which have been promulgated by Federal and/or Provincial Legislatures. This paper focuses on the regulations pertaining to reserve reports required by the United States Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC). SEC RESERVE FILINGS Reserve reports made to the United States Securities and Exchange Commission are the only reserve reports which are directly regulated by the United States government. The requirements for SEC reserve reports are set forth in the filing forms as shown in Appendix A, from Item 17A of SEC Form S-18. These reporting requirements, which are intended to protect the investing public from inaccurate or misleading claims, are primarily oriented to S-1 or other filings for new stock issues but must also be followed for annual 10K reports which must be filed annually by U.S. public corporations as part of the Corporate Annual Report. These undertakings require independent audits of reserves, mine designs, plant facilities and a general economic evaluation of the planned or existing operation as part of the backup documents for filing. Occupational noise-induced hearing loss (ONIHL) is associated with various risk factors in South African mines. We investigated the association between standard threshold shifts (STSs) and exposure to noise and platinum mine dust (PMD), using demographic data, five years of annual audiometry screening results, and noise and dust exposure data. Miners’ age, sex, percentage hearing loss (PLH), and dust and noise exposure data were gathered, and a linear mixed effects regression model used to predict STS. Average occupational exposure levels to noise and dust were calculated from recorded measurements. A total of 12 692 records were analysed. Most miners were male (89.6%) and more than 50% were younger than 41 years. More than 70% were exposed to > 85 dBA noise and 58% were exposed to 1.5–2.99 mg/m3 PMD. Changes in hearing levels ranged from 8.3 dBHL at baseline (2014/2015) to 10 dBHL in 2016 (STS), with no changes thereafter. The model showed that the estimated effect on STS for males was 27% and 21% higher than for females, for the left and right ear, respectively The estimated effect of age, PLH, noise exposure and years of exposure on STS was < 10% for each variable. There was no statistically significant association between PMD and STS. The combined effects of age, sex, years of exposure to noise, and noise exposure levels, and strength of associations can be used to predict STS for this group of miners. Our findings may be used to measure the efficacy of the mine’s hearing conservation programme.

The utilization of secondary titanium was determined in a study by the Bureau of Mines, and a 10-year statistical table showing supply and distribution patterns is presented in this report. Over the total 10-year period, estimated scrap consumption is larger than estimated scrap supply. Trends from the estimated data indicate that titanium is in short supply and probably will continue to be in the future. Because of higher processing costs for recycle scrap, scrap will tend to migrate to the steel and aluminum industries and to ferrotitanium production and exports. Nonrecoverable losses of titanium metal during processing was determined to be a potential area for research.

This paper presents the results of Caldagi Nickel-Cobalt Ore Deposit&apos;s, located in Turkey, reserve and ultimate pit limit design analysis. Reserve analysis of any deposit requires two steps. First one is to constitute of block model of the deposit and second step is to generate ultimate pit limit. The block model of the Caldagi ore deposit has been created by means of geostatistics. The reserves of nickel and cobalt in this block model are defined as resource, approximately 12 million tons of nickel and 1 million tons of cobalt with average grades of 0.9% Ni and 0.03% Co, respectively. Ultimate pit limit analysis has been performed by considering economic, technical and legal factors. In this paper, the ultimate pit limits are generated by Lerchs & Grossmann (L&G) algorithm. As a consequence of ultimate pit limit design, total amount of tonnage to be excavated is 1.4 billions of tons, 700 million of which contains ore and 747 million of which is the tonnage of waste.

The U.S. Bureau of Mines is engaged in many diverse programs for improving mine safety. Of particular interest to the Bureau are new and improved means for minimizing the hazard of fire which can be initiated by prolonged low energy electrical faults on trolley line systems. When a high energy fault occurs on a trolley line, wherein the current exceeds the magnitude normally drawn by legitimate loads, such as locomotives, then the circuit breakers at close-by power rectifier sets trip. Tripping of the breakers not only protects the equipment at the rectifier sets, but also disconnects the energy source from the fault and thereby minimizes the fire risk. However, the fault current is frequently of a level substantially below that required to trip the overload breakers. When the fault is a substantial percentage of the set level of the breakers, the energy dissipated by the fault is frequently sufficient to clear the system by rapidly burning itself clear. Such a fault is often short-lived and does not present as serious a fire risk hazard as a prolonged, much lower energy fault, wherein the energy level is too low to clear the system. The breakdown of a trolley line insulator, in which there was a 20 or 30 ampere leak, would represent such a fault or illegitimate load and a substantial fire risk.

A quantitative analysis method based on the airflow influence factors is proposed to evaluate airflow stability and discriminate airflow directions in complex ventilation networks. The law governing the changes in airflow caused by changes in branch resistance is revealed based on simulations of the airflow state in a ventilation network and a statistical analysis of the results. Then, three evaluation indices (airflow sensitivity, airflow influence factor, and critical airflow) are determined, matrices of the airflow influence factors and critical airflows are constructed, and a quantitative evaluation method for ventilation system stability and an airflow directional discriminant are proposed. The results show that the stability of a ventilation system can be reliably evaluated based on the airflow influence factors. The sensitive branches and dominant branches in the ventilation network can be determined based on the matrix of airflow influence factors, and the reversed branches, the trigger branches, and the reversal conditions can be determined based on the critical airflow matrix and the matrix of airflow influence factors. The proposed airflow directional discriminant is suitable for evaluating arbitrarily complex networks.

Rapidly searching for carbonatite-related rare earth element (REE) mineralized systems is of paramount importance to explorers, because these systems provide the world’s most significant supply of REE. Biotite and barite are suitable indicator minerals that can offer reliable elemental geochemical information used for REE exploration. In this study, we provided an elemental geochemical dataset of biotite and barite from Cenozoic REE deposits in the eastern Tibetan Plateau, and compared the obtained data to those of biotite and barite forming in other geological settings. The F (i.e., fluorine) contents in carbonatite-hosted biotites are highly variable, with biotites from mineralized carbonatite complexes having much higher values (1.05–2.37 apfu, where apfu = atoms per formula unit) than their counterparts from barren carbonatite complexes (≤ 1 apfu). It is therefore believed that the presence of high-F biotites can be regarded as a sign for predicting REE reservoirs. Barites in REE mineralized systems contain much higher (even one or to orders of magnitude) total REE contents (ΣREE >100 μg/g) relative to those species forming in carbonate-hosted fluorite-barite deposits and open marine environments. This means that the high ΣREE concentration of barite can serve as an effective index for REE exploration. The above information is integrated into a REE exploration program in which the areas with strong local tectonism along cratonic edges are priority exploration targets, and high-F biotites and REE-rich barites can serve as direct indices for rapidly identifying carbonatiterelated REE mineralized systems at a strategic distance from other geological settings.

This method is not applicable to mines where only a limited number of com-pressed-air lines are used, as for example, many coal mines; the ventilation currents available in these mines may be too slow for warning purposes.14/

"Although rock-dust is an effective and generally recognized preventive of wide-spread explosions in bituminous-coal mines and although in explosions many lives have been saved by its use that almost certainly would have been lost otherwise, yet more than two thirds of the yearly production of bituminous coal from underground mines in the United States is still being obtained from mines that do not use rock-dust, and more than two thirds of all men that work underground in bituminous mines are employed in nonrock-dusted mines. These facts are revealed by a statistical survey of all mines in the United States that were in operation during 1930, 1931, and 1932. The survey was conducted by the Demographical Division of the Health and Safety Branch of the United States Bureau of Mines and was based upon reports from operating companies received in connection with the Bureau's annual statistical surveys of accidents in the mining industry.In 1932, the latest year for which complete figures are available, rock-dust was used, to some extent at least, in 393 bituminous-coal mines whose total production of coal during the year was 83,632,327 tons, or 30.6 percent of the entire output of bituminous coal from all mines in the United States not including opencut mines. The number of men employed underground at mines that used rock-dust was 25.7 percent of the total number employed underground at all bituminous mines, and the number of man-hours worked at these mines was 27.1 percent of the total number of man-hours worked underground at all bituminous mines during the year."

The molybdenum ores currently utilized in China are mostly molybdenum sulfide ores, whereas oxidized molybdenum ores have not been exploited and utilized efficiently. The aim of this article is to study the applied mineralogy of an intergrown iron-molybdenum oxidized ore in order to provide a mineralogical basis for the ore beneficiation research. The ore occurred in a surface oxidized zone seam and contained 23.65% Fe2O3 and 1.58% Mo. Various characterization techniques were employed to study the chemical composition and mineral composition of the ore, the particle size distribution of the minerals in the ore, and the tex-ture and structure of the ore. The results showed that the iron-molybdenum ore occurred in a wet, soft and earthy state. The ore was composed mainly of several oxidized minerals and colloidal min-erals, including wulfenite, barite, limonite and quartz. Wulfenite was one of the major and stable components in the ore and occurred as a separate mineral. Wulfenite, barite and quartz were granu-lar minerals with particle size ranging from fine to coarse but mainly in the fine particle range. Li-monite showed a crust and honeycomb-like colloidal state and composed the framework in the ore for the formation of the other minerals. They filled the pores in the framework and the size of the pores affected the size of the minerals formed in the pores and hence the recovery of wulfenite in ore beneficiation. According to the applied mineralogical properties of the oxidized molybdenum ore, a promising ore beneficiation process was proposed as follow Magnetic separation should be carried out first to separate the magnetic iron minerals and then the molybdenum mineral will be recovered by gravity concentration or a combination process of gravity concentration and flotation, depending on the distribution of the molybdenum mineral in the product of the magnetic separation.

The outstanding features of the Coloinbian situation for the year 1929 were legal and political. The passage of Law 84 and the promulgation of the Regulatory Decree 150 were recounted in the review for 1928, as was also the Presidential proclamation suspending this law and its accompanying decree until decision could be reached in the suits filed against them before the Supreme Court and the Council of State. Early this year the Minister of Industries, Jose Antonio Montalvo, announced the appointment of a commission of foreign experts to aid in drafting a new petroleum law. He requested all of the foreign experts employed not to consult with the oil company representatives in Bogota, and these experts were therefore shut off from receiving any suggestions from those who had actually operated in the country and knew the conditions under which operations would take place. It was to be expected that the provisions of a law suggested under such circumstances would not meet operating conditions satisfactorily. The specific objections are stated in O&apos;Shaughnessy&apos;s South American Oil Reports (April, 1929). An especially qualified commentator observes that one of the curious provisions of the proposed law was the high royalty on gas—5c. per 1000 cu. ft. of gas produced. There was also a provision requiring 20 per cent. of the stock of the company operating in Colombia to be offered for sale to Colombians. The bill failed to pass Congress in the closing hours of the session. The Supreme Court, in the meantime, handed down its decision on Law 84 of the previous year and Regulation 150 covering the enforcement of that law. Contrary to expectation, the majority opinion of the Court practically affirmed the constitutionality of both the law and the regulatory decree, with the exception of Article 20 and parts of Article 21 of the decree which referred specifically to the registration of private properties. At the time the suit was filed against Law 84 and Decree 150 the operation of these measures was suspended by the Executive. Law 84 and its Regulatory Decree 150 still remain suspended as the Council of State has not yet brought in a decision upon the questions raised in the suits instituted by the various companies against the law and decree, and at the moment of this writing it appears unlikely that such a decision will be reached by that body.
