Six kinds of copper '90ncentrates. were treated individually in a ,pilot scale. Outokumpu flsah smelting furnace ~n order to study their ?flash smelting behavior with respect to oxygen efficiency and dust generation. The copper concentrates tested were selected from the more than twenty sources which are treated at the Sumitomo Toyo copper smelter, so as to provide a wide range of chemical composition in terms .of Cu, S,Fe, Pb + Zn + As, and Si~ content. Oxygen efficiency 'and dust generation rates obtained in 'the experiments ranged from 80% ,to 108% and 11% to 20%, respectively. Relationships between these results and experhnental conditions such as chemical and mineral composition of the copper concentrates, flux ratio, fuel consumption and so on are also discussed quantitatively in this paper.

The investigations set forth in the following pages were made in the field in Newfoundland during the summer of 1927, and later in the laboratories and library of McGill University, and in the library of the Canadian Geological Survey at Ottawa, with the purpose of collating and adding to our knowledge of the geology of an area roughly wedge-shaped in outline, and nearly nine thousand square miles in extent, stretching across the centre of the island of Newfoundland, from the southwest to the northeast coasts. To the description of this district, which contains most of the known mineral occurrences of Newfoundland, the term mineral belt is here introduced.

During the 1970?s, the Bureau of Mines investigated a particle agglomeration technique for improving the flow of leaching solution through heaps of clayey or crushed, low-grade gold-silver ores. This technology has been adopted on a broad scale by the precious-metal-processing industry. This report presents information on the application of agglomeration technology to finely ground precious-metal-bearing tailings. Two commercial operations that have benefited from agglomeration technology are discussed. The technology is cost effective because of decreased leach times and improved precious metal recoveries.

Using constructed wetlands to chemically reduce hexavalent chromium Cr(VI) to Cr(III) from industrial and mining wastewater has proven to be feasible and efficient. Applying first-order kinetics to describe the process is simple, but in some cases a more accurate model is required to reflect the process. This paper studies the feasibility of using non–first-order kinetics to describe the reduction process. Results indicate that half- and second-order kinetics adequately described Cr(VI) reduction in laboratory wetland mesocosms. The organic carbon content played a relevant role, whether it was built up by plant growth or spiked into the feed water.

The paper considers the geology and the coalfields that comprise the Scottish south area. It traces the history of known sources of spontaneous combustion and indicates the collieries concerned, with the position of the seams in the geological series where heatings have occurred. The methods of work over the years are described. It relates in detail the circumstances surrounding a fire at Bilston Glen Colliery in the Lothian Coalfield, and the heating at Killoch Colliery in the Ayrshire Coalfield, and the steps taken to deal with them. It also describes some of the difficulties in steep seam working. Methods adopted to prevent spontaneous combustion throughout the area are discussed, and some detail of the UNOR gas analyser is given. Finally, it comments on the present techniques in use in the area, particularly at Bilston Glen Colliery, to prevent spontaneous combustion.

The Basil Cu/Co deposit comprises a 26.5 Mt Inferred Resource of copper and cobalt, grading 0.57?per cent Cu and 0.05 per cent Co. It lies in the Harts Range, Central Australia, within the Riddock Amphibolite of the Irindina Province. Analysis of drilling within the mineralised zone of the deposit determined a spatial association between pyrrhotite with high magnetic susceptibility and chalcopyrite, following a strong magnetic trend as determined from airborne geophysics. A study was commissioned to examine if geophysical inversion could predict the distribution of sulfide mineralisation based on pyrrhotite from drill hole intersections, as well as predicting further mineralisation at depth or in the vicinity of the deposit. Petrophysical and geostatistical analysis of drilling susceptibility and mineralisation provided a basis of property distribution inside the model. This was followed by 3D geological modelling of mineralisation based on domain kriging of drill hole susceptibility sensitivity testing of signal to source depth, and distribution was performed using 3D forward modelling. Stochastic inversion generated alternative 3D geological models, which were tested for behaviour and adherence to observed drilling data and geostatistical limitations using GeoModeller software. Predicted mineralisation distribution was compared with conventional geostatistical modelling and found to be in agreement in planar behaviour but exhibiting possibly isoclinally folded trends, with reliability increasing closer to the surface. Predictions of mineralisation at greater depth and beneath weaker anomalies were more diffuse due to small model cell size having limited influence on the signal at depth.The Blackbush uranium deposit comprises a 64.5 Mt Inferred Resource, grading 230 ppm U in the Pirie Basin south of Whyalla, South Australia. It directly overlies the radiogenic Samphire Granite and is considered a tertiary unconformity deposit. Sensitivity modelling was performed using high-resolution ground gravity to see if a deposit signature could be detected using gravity. This required 3D implicit modelling of the geology and mineralisation from drill hole data and characterisation of an associated physical property model using domain kriging in GeoModeller. Density models relied on exploiting an observed relationship between logged density and measured uranium oxide percentage. The residual gravity response of the background geology model identified the location of the uranium deposit. Stochastic inversion of the litho/property 3D model has refined the known distribution of uranium from drilling and provided structural insights into the deposit.These projects have become excellent case studies for exploiting the relationship between mineralisation and potential fields and for testing the applicability of using domain kriging of properties determined from drilling to build robust 3D geological models for stochastic geophysical inversion, leading to robust methods for exploration targeting and mineral deposit prediction.CITATION:Zengerer, M, 2014. This study evaluated the effects of collector type amide-amine compared with those of conventional etheramine acetate (both cationic collectors) on the surface properties of quartz and hematite. An examination of certain properties of the reagents indicated that the new collector amide-amine has CMC (critical micelle concentration) and pKa values (100 mg/L and 8.2, respectively) significantly lower than those of etheramine (800 mg/L and 9.4, respectively). Microflotation tests showed that the recoveries of quartz with amide-amine in all the concentrations tested were higher than those with etheramine. This is attributed to its lower CMC and pKa values. The selectivity window between quartz and hematite flotation using amideamine was higher at pH 10.5 (approximately 80% for 5 mg/L). Therefore, the use of starch is not necessary in siliceous itabirite flotation by amide–amine collector. Zeta potential measurements and infrared spectra reveal that the adsorption of amide-amine collector on quartz surface occurs mainly by electrostatic attraction. Considering the better collectability of amide-amine for quartz flotation and lower adsorption affinity for hematite surface than etheramine, the amide-amine is a promising collector to be used in reversal iron ore flotation.

Analisou-se o tratamento térmico de revenimento de grampos ferroviários, modelo E2039AV, feitos a partir de barras redondas com aproximadamente 20 mm de diâmetro do aço SAE 9254 tendo como objetivo reduzir o tempo do processo de fabricação. A temperatura do forno foi mantida em 490ºC e 18 grampos foram imersos no sal fundido. Em grupos de 3, os grampos foram retirados em intervalos de 10 minutos, tendo o último grupo permanecido no forno por 60 minutos. Após cada retirada foram feitos os ensaios necessários para aferir a qualidade das peças: carga estática, dureza e fadiga. Após apenas 10 minutos de revenimento os grampos já resistiam ao mínimo de 1.000 kgf sem fraturar e apresentaram medidas de dureza próximas ao limite superior de especificação, ou seja, a dureza que era aproximadamente 58 HRC antes do revenido, atingiu valores próximos a 48 HRC. O último teste, fadiga, foi feito apenas nos grupos de grampos revenidos por 30 e 50 minutos. Pôde-se concluir que é possível reduzir o tempo de revenimento do grampo E2039AV feito de aço SAE 9254 de 60 minutos para pelo menos 50 minutos mantendo-se a qualidade dos grampos sem a necessidade de aumentar a temperatura do forno.

"MANGOTE Surface oxidizied mine is a gold-bearing deposit in Congo's Mai-Ndombe Province. In the past decades, the ore has been exploited in a crude way by local farmers, which directly causes the severe processing difficulty and lack of economy of cyanide leaching. Hunan Research Institute for Non-ferrous metals (HRIM) is currently investigating options to recover gold through understanding the mineralogical characteristics of MANGOTE surface oxidized ore. Chemical analysis , X-ray diffraction(XRD) and Quantitative Evaluation of Minerals by SCANing electron microscopy (QEMSCAN ) were conducted on samples from mine site. The bulk analysis results showed that gold separation of gold from gangue minerals was feasible after grinding the ore samples to 86.53% -74µm and adjusting the pulp specific weight at 100g/L, and gravity separation was conducted with using spiral chute after grading of fine particles. The research results highlight relationship between mineralogical characteristics of abandoned ore and economy of comprehensive utilization that might be directive experience to similar cases. INTRODUCTION The occurrence state of gold in natural gold minerals determines the basic recovery and recovery effect of gold(Komnitsas, C., & Pooley, F. D. 1989). The occurrence of gold in the ore refers to the form of gold in the ore.Generally the existing state of gold can be divided into four major categories according to the viewpoint of the dispersion system: independent minerals and gold, a coarse dispersed system;colloidal gold, a colloidal dispersion; solid solution gold, is atomic ion dispersion; adsorptive gold, according to the adsorbed particle is the micelle or ion, respectively is a colloidal dispersion or ion dispersion(Mao, S. Several methods are available for calculating the performance of solution-gas-drive reservoirs from the PVT properties of the oil and from the relative permeability and other properties of the formation. These methods require a number of simplifying assumptions. The present method of computation has made use of a high-speed computer to solve simultaneously the nonlinear partial differential equations that describe two-phase flow by solution-gas drive in order to calculate the performance of a reservoir. Some of the results obtained by the nonlinear partial differential equation solution are compared with those obtained with an approximate method, which has been called the semisteady-state solution. The pressure and saturation profiles from the wellbore to outer boundary calculated by the two methods are compared for one constant-terminal-rate case and two constant-teminal-pressure cases. The agreement in these profiles, as well as in the values of average reservoir pressure and cumulative recovery, leads to the conclusion that, for most engineering calculations, the semisteady-state method will give a reasonable approximation to the numerical solution of the differential equations describing solution-gas drive. An unfavorable (as regards ultimate oil production) set of relative permeability curves was used in the calculations in the belief that the effect of the parameters which were studied would be emphasized to a greater degree. Furthermore, the reservoir was assumed to be completely homogeneous, and these results should not be considered applicable to any other type of reservoir. Gravity effects are not considered. The absolute permeability was varied from 25 to 0.5 md. At an economic limit of 2 B/D, the recovery for a 25-md reservoir is about 1.8 times as great as that for a 0.5-md reservoir. The effect of permeability on the producing gas-oil ratio is minor. Once PVT properties of the oil and the relative penneability properties of the reservoir are fixed, the pro- during gas-oil ratio is found to be a function of the fraction of oil recovered. Well spacings of 10, 40 and 80 acres were considered. For the assumed homogeneous-reservoir properties, the effect of spacing on recovery at an economic limit of 2 B/D was very slight. Certain dimensionless groups can be used to extend the results to other fields having different penneabilities, spacings, reservoir thicknesses, well radii and porosities, so long as the PVT and relative permeability properties are similar to those used in this paper. INTRODUCTION An important aspect of reservoir engineering is the prediction of the performance of the reservoir based on the limited information normally available early in the life of a field. Usually, soon after a field has been discovered, it is necessary to decide upon the spacing to be employed and the production program to be used for most efficient utilization of reservoir energy. Where these decisions have not been dictated by legal or political considerations, they have frequently been based on experience factors which indicate that two fields with similar characteristics will probably have similar performances. To the extent that the industry has been successful in economically exploiting oil reservoirs, this rule-of-thumb method has been found to have merit. A large amount of theory has been developed with which it is possible to predict the performance of a reservoir by using certain known properties of the oil and the formation. Because of the difficulties of the mathematics involved for a drainage area having square or rectangular boundaries, the problem usually has been simplified and idealized by assuming each drainage area to have radial symmetry and the field to be represented by a number of these drainage areas. This report documents laboratory and in-mine analyses of diesel exhaust pollutants carried out to assess the fate of potentially reactive species in the mine environment. Specifically, the concentration of stable compounds including carbon monoxide and carbon dioxide, and potentially reactive compounds including nitric oxide, nitrogen dioxide, sulfur dioxide, aldehydes, formaldehyde, acrolein, formic acid, odorants, particulates, soluble sulfates, and polynuclear aromatic hydrocarbons were determined. The concentration and mass emission rates of these compounds were measured in the laboratory under three engine speed and load conditions and with three exhaust control conditions, i.e., none, catalyst, water conditioner. Once calibrated, the engine was installed in the Bureau of Mines Safety Research Coal Mine and the concentration of exhaust pollutants measured at several distances downstream (inby) of the engine. Laboratory results confirm the relatively small effect of exhaust control devices on most pollutants under engine conditions of low speed and load. At higher engine speed and load, the catalyst is more effective in controlling many pollutants. The in-mine data indicates that during residence times, which are typical for miner/exhaust contact, most diesel exhaust pollutants do not decrease in concentration. The obvious exceptions are nitrogen dioxide, sulfur dioxide and formaldehyde. The concentration of these pollutants is reduced by up to 75 percent in five minutes. The lack of increase in levels of obvious reaction products indicates that surface loss may be a major sink for these pollutants.

Fios ortodônticos de NiTi são alternativas para substituição dos materiais convencionais para a mesma utilização. Quando comparado ao aço inoxidável, NiTi apresenta resistência à corrosão semelhante e características mecânicas superiores, uma vez que produz forças de menor intensidade e constantes numa grande faixa de deformação. Foram caracterizados grupos de fios ortodônticos de dois fabricantes, com diferenças no tipo de ativação e em seus diâmetros. Foram utilizadas microscopia eletrônica de varredura e espectroscopia de energia dispersiva para caracterização superficial e de composição dos fios. As fases presentes foram avaliadas por difração de raios X e ensaios mecânicos de dobramento de três pontos e tração foram conduzidos de forma a avaliar suas propriedades mecânicas. Todas as amostras apresentaram conteúdo de níquel acima de 50,5 at.%. Os fios superelásticos apresentaram recuperação total de forma em ambos os testes mecânicos e os fios termoativados apresentaram recuperação parcial de forma. Os difratogramas obtidos para todos os grupos apresentaram apenas fase austenítica anteriormente ao carregamento. Todos os fios superelásticos apresentaram maior força no descarregamento quando comparados com os termoativados.

Spalling and rockburst are unwanted brittle failures at the boundaries of underground excavations that are commonly observed in hard rock and high-stress environments at significant depths, although, spalling has also been observed in comparatively shallow soft rocks. The crack initiation (CI) stress threshold (representing the stress level at which new micro cracks begin to form in an intact rock) is widely used to establish the in-situ spalling strength, and is generally regarded as the lower limit of the long-term rock strength. This study analyses the evolution of CI and other mechanical properties for a high-porosity sandstone with an average UCS of 38 MPa under unconfined cyclic compressive loading. The results indicate that rock properties are variably affected by cyclic loading with; no significant effect on Youngs Modulus; a moderate increase in Poisson’s ratio and fracture angle; a moderate decrease in UCS; and a major reduction in the CI stress threshold. All of these changes were generally amplified by cyclic loading at higher stresses. From the results, it is concluded that rockburst and spalling limit in underground structures may reduce over time if the rock is subject to repetitive cyclic loading, and that the reductions will be greater for higher cyclic stresses. This may be a significant factor in the design and operation of some deep underground structures.

The main Tintic mining district in central Utah has produced approximately 13,500,000 tons of ore, containing silver, lead, gold, copper, zinc, and other metals, valued at more than $315,000,000. More than 90 per cent of this ore has come from large, irregular ore bodies that have replaced folded and faulted limestone and dolomite strata. Of lesser importance are replacement veins that chiefly cut contact-pyrometasomatized carbonate rocks and fissure veins that cut altered intrμsive bodies and volcanic rocks. The district is in the west-central part of the East Tintic Mountains, a north-trending fault-block range near the eastern margin of the Great Basin. The consolidated sedimentary rocks exposed at the surface and in mine workings are miogeosynclinal deposits more than 10,000 feet thick that range in age from late Precambrian to Late Mississippian. They are folded and strongly faulted and are partly overlain by volcanic tuffs and agglomerates and by extensive flows of porphyritic and vitrophyric quartz latite, latite, and trachyandesite of Eocene age. All of these rocks are locally concealed beneath thick alluvial deposits of Pliocene and Quaternary age. The Eocene and older rocks are cut by dikes, sills, and small stocks of porphyritic quartz monzonite, monzonite, and latite, which are genetically related to the ore deposits. The district is inactive except for the production of halloysite clay and for minor leasing activity and exploration ventures. Several exploration targets remain untested.

Utilizando os conceitos de Data Visualization e Operational Intelligence, foi possível integrar e centralizar as informações de diversas fontes de dados, tais como, PIMS, MES, LIMS, ERP, Supervisórios, PROCOM's e entradas manuais. Padronizar as informações de controle do processo produtivo entre os gestores facilita a identificação de problemas e suas causas, e permite analisar simultaneamente várias áreas e plantas. Exibir em tempo real perdas operacionais em decorrência de desvios de processo, torna o processo de tomada de decisão mais rápido e assertivo, contribuindo para a melhoria da performance dos equipamentos, redução de riscos de falhas, e além disso aumenta a vida útil dos equipamentos e otimiza a monitoração dos processos.

Molten zinc, condensed from zinc vapor, was used by the Federal Bureau of Mines to leach aluminum from an aluminum-silicon alloy made by carbothermic reduction of silicious aluminum ores. Zinc requirements were minimized by re-fluxing condensed zinc in a low-pressure, Soxhlet-type distillation unit. The minimum ratio of zinc used to aluminum in the crude alloy was approximately 2:1. When the system pressure was reduced from atmospheric pressure to 100 microns or less, the rate of aluminum extraction increased by a factor of 20. Leaching rates were much higher when the zinc vapor was condensed directly on the crude alloy than when molten zinc was passed over the alloy in the absence of appreciable zinc vapors. Observations indicated higher extraction efficiencies from crude alloys containing greater amounts of iron. Complete extraction was obtained with negligible loss of zinc. Assuming complete removal of zinc, the aluminum products will contain 1 to 6 percent silicon and about 0.5 percent iron plus titanium. The leached crude-alloy residue is a highly friable spongelike material containing about 80 percent silicon, several percent iron and titanium, with the remainder aluminum. This extraction method has been patented (Patent 2,810,637) and assigned to the Government. Research and development investigations are continuing at the College Park Metallurgy Research Center.

THERE was an, extensive mining and industrial exploitation of Russia, about 20 years ago, by Belgian, French and British capitalists; but the results were discouraging. It is said that the Belgian and French public together lost approximately $400,000,000, chiefly in the coal and iron industry of southern Russia. This loss is largely accounted for by the fact that most of the companies were formed, as usual in " boom " times, to sell stock; and that thorough investigations were not made. In 1906, renewed interest was taken in Russian mines, especially in those of gold and copper, and a considerable literature is growing on this subject; but as yet I have seen no account of one of the large Russian mining estates. The following notes on such property, where the conditions are so different from those in the mining regions of the United States, should be of interest This inadequate and probably somewhat inaccurate account is made up, partly from my own notes made on the ground, in the summers of 1904 and 1905, and partly from a volume on the geology and resources of the estate issued several years ago, containing surface-and mine-maps, and from a pamphlet published in 1904, giving a general account of the condition and prospects of the property. This pamphlet includes a report made by Arthur L. Pearse, a member of this Institute, in 1899. Both these books are in Russian, and were prepared by the Bogoslovsk Mining Co., which owns and operates the property. Articles in many other languages have appeared dealing with various matters connected with the estate; but I know of no other general account of it. "An extensive, deep mixing (DM) ground improvement program using the Cutter Soil Mixing (CSM) technique was designed and constructed in 2013 to support up to 20 m (66 ft) high Mechanically Stabilized Earth (MSE) walls and bulk earthworks for the development of the Kitimat Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) facility at Bish Cove, British Columbia. The deep mixing program consisted of overlapping rectangular panels of in situ cement treated soils, constructed using the CSM technique, to form barrettes covering an area of approximately 12,900 m2 (15,428 yd2) and providing suitable static and seismic stability of foundation soils for support of the proposed MSE walls, which would in turn support LNG facilities. The deep mixing program comprised of 1645 CSM panels that were constructed through varying thicknesses and discontinuous layers of very soft fine-grained marine deposits and/or loose sandy silt to silty sand deposits, embedding typically 2 m ( 6.6 ft) into dense silty sand to sand and gravel. CSM panel depths ranged from 5 m (16 ft) to 30 m (98 ft) and were constructed by treating approximately 73,900 m3 (96,658 yd3) of soil yielding average unconfined compressive strengths exceeding 2.5MPa (363 psi).This paper outlines the approach adopted for the design of the CSM ground improvement program in the highly variable subsurface conditions present at the site. A phased sitespecific investigation consisting of boreholes, test pits, Cone Penetration Tests, piston tube sampling, advanced laboratory testing and groundwater monitoring was implemented. In addition, soil-cement bench scale testing was completed, followed by installation of 8 CSM panels for field trial purposes. Extensive geotechnical static and seismic analyses including Limit Equilibrium stability analyses, liquefaction assessments, and advanced numerical modeling were undertaken to optimize the design and meet the project-specific design performance criteria. The Design-Build team worked closely to develop and implement Quality Assurance and Quality Control plans and managed significant construction challenges while achieving suitable panel termination depths."
