"This paper summarizes work carried out at the Dome Mine to mechanize the mining of narrow veins of less than 1.5 m in width by the introduction of new mining methods and specifically designed electric LHDs.Extensive mining trials have been conducted using sublevel blasthole, modified Avoca, and resuing mining methods. The introduction of the Microscoop and the Jarvis Clark remote, radio-controlled scooptram has increased mucking productivity.As a result of this work, additional narrow vein stopes are now being prepared for production. In the future, narrow vein stoping wil lprovide a greater percentage of the total mill tonnage.IntroductionThe Dome Mine, which is owned and operated by Dome Mines Limited, is located at Timmins, Ontario. Production has been continuous since 1910 and in 1984 was increased from 1814 to 2721 tonnes per day.At least six distinct ore types have been recognized at the mine. In general, these orebodies can be broadly categorized into wide and narrow deposits. The wide deposits are approximately lenticular in shape and vary in width from 10 m to 40 m. The narrow orebodies consist of quartz and quartzankerite veins ranging in width from a few centimetres to six metres. The average dip of the veins is 65 degrees.Since the I970s, mining activity has been largely concentrated in the wider orebodies using highly productive open sublevel blasthole and mechanized cut-and-fill stoping methods. With the demise of shrinkage stoping in 1975, investigations were initiated to develop new mining methods and introduce LHDs - truly designed for narrow orebodies. These investigations resulted in test trials of the sublevel blasthole, modified Avoca, and resuing mining methods. Consultations with equipment manufacturers and suppliers led to the development of the Jarvis Clark remote, radio-controlled electric scooptram and the introduction of the France Loader Microscoop."

"Oil has been discovered off Newfoundland in a number of locations on the Grand Banks, the most notable and exciting being in 1979 when Hibernia was discovered. This discovery has brought new challenges to the province as well as to all of Canada. During the seven years"" since its discovery, both industry and governments have attempted to define its parameters and to find the most efficient and economical way to develop the field.A number of studies have been completed during the interval and in 1985, Mobil Canada Ltd. and partners stated that they would prefer to develop the field by using a concrete Gravity-Based Structure (GBS). IntroductionHibernia is located in an environmental climate much more severe than that of any previously developed oil field. The wind and wave conditions are similar to those of the North Sea, but unlike the North Sea, any structure on the Grand Banks would have to contend with ice floes and icebergs. Decisions had to be made on whether fixed structures could be put in place that would withstand the pressures of the ice and the impact of an iceberg, or whether structures that could be removed when such impacts were imminent would be used.Early studies in 1981, determined that it was possible to build a concrete Gravity-Based Structure which could withstand the impact of the largest icebergs that are anticipated to float in that area of the banks.Additional studies increased the knowledge of icebergs: their patterns and size, and verified the original conclusions that Concrete Gravity-Based platforms would provide a practical solution."

"Abstract - The demographics of Nunavut indicate a very young and poorly educated population spread over wide areas in small isolated communities. The current economic sectors will be unable to expand and meet the demands of this emerging workforce. Given the realities of Nunavut, the most promising direction in which the economy may expand is through mineral development. The Nunavut Land Claims Agreement (NLCA) has established the legislative framework for sustainable development in Nunavut through mineral development. The NLCA has transferred ownership for much of Nunavut’s potential mineral resources to beneficiaries of the lands claim. Royalties generated from mining operations on subsurface Inuit-owned lands, and to a lesser extent on Crown land, will flow back to beneficiaries of the lands claim through their administrative company, which may then be invested in the communities. Additional benefits of mineral resource development in Nunavut will be realized through impact and benefit agreements.To realize the benefits from mining operations, Nunavut has to be able to attract and support exploration and development companies through the release of high-quality geoscience data. However, due to Nunavut’s isolation and the expense of conducting geoscience fieldwork, the jurisdiction lags far behind the rest of Canada in terms of quality and quantity of government geoscience. About 70% of the territory is inadequately mapped to attract exploration companies or to make informed land-use decisions. The role of government-funded geoscience in Nunavut is to stimulate exploration and discovery through new framework mapping and focused thematic projects. The timely delivery of high-quality geoscience products will attract exploration companies to Nunavut and further their efforts to discover and develop mineral resources in order that the subsequent benefits of this activity may flow to the beneficiaries of the NLCA as well as all other residents of Nunavut."

"In this study, the authors investigated the stabilities of slopes cut predominantly into Trenton limestone in a large quarry in the Montreal region. Analyses of the bench and pit walls indicated that small-scale toppling, ravelling, and wedge failures are the most likely modes of instabilities. Because most of the joints dip steeply, however, the conclusion was made that relatively high walls could probably be justified.The field investigations were supplemented with the determinations of the shearing strengths of artificial discontinuities that were cut into samples of the limestone. The properties of a fine-grained limestone were found to be influenced very much by the magnitudes of the loads that were applied, while the properties of a crystalline limestone were found to be much less, or not load-dependent.The study is one of a number that are being conducted in this area.IntroductionExtensive quarrying has been done in the sedimentary strata of the Montreal area for a very long time. By any standards, it can be said that the Island of Montreal is a major mining area. At present, approximately 20 quarries are being operated in, or near, the city of Montreal.In addition to the millions of tons of limestone that are removed each year, a large number of excavations for foundations are cut into the sedimentary rocks.To date, however, very little information has been published concerning the engineering properties of the local geological materials. No mention is made of this aspect in the references which are presently available.Because of this lack of information, the senior author has initiated a study in which the strength properties of most of the rock types, and of the natural discontinuities contained in these, would be investigated. To date, the results of one other investigation have been published and other work is in process. It is hoped that the end result will be a comprehensive knowledge of the important strength properties of all of the rocks in the entire region."

"Nineteen streams in the copper and zinc flotation units of the concentrator of the Matagami Division of Noranda Inc. have been sampled f or particle size distributions, chemical assays, and gold and silver contents in each particle size interval. The data are upgraded by the mass balance package BILMA T. These results, in conjunction with microprobe analyses, are used to quantify the silver losses in the copper cleaning flotation stages and to determine how over-all silver and three silver-bearing minerals are recovered in the plant final products. "Gamma-ray spectral logging, a useful technique for uranium exploration and evaluation, has generally been underutilized by the Canadian mining industry. Provided that the technique is properly applied, it is capable of yielding reliable quantitative information regarding the distribution of uranium and other radioelements along the borehole under most conditions.In practice. there are numerous factors which potentially can degrade the quality of the log and thus any quantitative interpretation based on it. Fortunately, the appropriate choice of logging equipment and technique can avoid many such problems, and corrections can be applied to the data to compensate for most of the others."

"Inert gas use for underground mine fir e control is a well-established mature technology in some parts of the world. This paper reviews three candidate inert gases and describes three case histories where inert gas fire-fighting technology was used in actual underground fires.IntroductionInerting is the introduction of an inert gas into an atmosphere in contact with a fire to reduce the level of oxygen and hence the intensity of the fire 10 the point of extinction. The benefits of inerting include:a. Reduced Explosion HazardBy displacing oxygen from the atmosphere surrounding the fire the risk of secondary gas explosions is reduced. For example, simple methane-air mixtures at standard temperature and pressure are non-explosive below 12% oxygen. In actual mine fires, combustible gases may include hydrogen and carbon monoxide as well as methane. Such gases are also rendered non-explosive with oxygen removal to below 40/0. Fuel-rich oxygen-deficient mixtures can however be made explosive through dilution with air. Such dilution can occur downwind of the fire. It is also important to remember that the atmosphere in a sealed-off fire zone is rarely homogenous.b. Reduced Fire Intensity and SpreadIn a fire zone the initial combustion may well set alight materials surrounding the fire. Inerting can reduce the intensity and spread of secondary combustion and can cool the area surrounding the fire zone after the fire itself has been extinguished.c. Reduced Air LeakageLeakage of air into sealed areas in excess of the natural leakage may be reduced either by introducing inert gas into the leakage paths to replace air or by pressure balancing seals and providing a chamber of nitrogen on the outbye side of the seals. Both methods assist in the reduction of the intensity of combustion and hasten oxygen starvation."

"Cominco Ltd's Polaris Mine, located on Little Cornwallis Island, Northwest Territories (latitude 75degrees 30') went into production in late 1981, becoming the world's most northerly base metal mine. The concentrator, powerhouse, shops, offices, dry and warehouse, were uniquely designed and constructed on a 100f t wide by 400 ft long by 65 ft high barge. This process barge was constructed in southern Canada at Trois Rivières, then towed 3,500 miles into the High Arctic Islands and beached on Little Cornwallis Island.The paper deals with the original design philosophy, flowsheet and the initial year's operation of the Polaris process barge.IntroductionTo bring a mining property into production in the Canadian High Arctic, a company must deal with the harsh environment, the short shipping season and the high cost of labour. In trying to minimize the effect of these fact or s, the concept of a barge-mounted process plant was investigated as an alternative to the conventionally built concentrator. Cominco's previous experience gamed at the Black Angel Min e on Greenland's west coast suggested that this would be a practical alternative.The normal shipping season at Little Cornwallis Island is approximately six weeks long, from mid-August to the end of September. All equipment and materials must be delivered during the ""shipping window"". The logistics problems are enormous; if the conventional approach had been used the major process equipment would have been delivered to Little Cornwallis Island at the same time as the completed barge actually was! Construction would also be starting at the start of the worst climatic conditions, the Arctic winter. Nine months' production was gained by opting for the ""barge"" approach."

"Nanisivik Mines Ltd. operates a 10-M W diesel-electric generating plant at its zinc-lead operation on Baffin Island in the Canadian Arctic. This paper provides a description of the plant and the integrated waste heat recovery system. Data is presented detailing the actual costs of operating a plant over a period of seven years. Problems in operation are described as well as the success of the plant in meeting its objectives over the years. IntroductionNanisivik is located on the shore of Strathcona Sound at the north end of Baffin Island (Fig. I). Nanisivik Mines Ltd. has operated a 2,100 tonne per day zinc-lead underground mine and a concentrator, together with supporting infrastructure, at this location since October 1976. Annual production of 100 000 tonnes of zinc and 10 000 tonnes of lead concentrate is transported by ship to Europe during the mid -July to mid October shipping season.All electrical needs of the project are provided by the company-owned and -operated power plant. Facilities served by this electrical system are the underground mining areas, the concentrator and industrial area, a townsite, airport, and shiploading dock complex."

"Abstract - The Owl Creek Mine is located near the west end of the Neo-archean Abitibi greenstone belt, 17 km northeast of Timmins, Ontario, and 4 km north of the Destor Porcupine fault. Gold occurs in epigenetic quartz veins and their pyritic wallrocks in two zones within a package of east striking, steeply north dipping, volcanic and sedimentary rocks. At the West Zone, 1 729 603 t of ore with a grade of 4.83 g/t Au (268 587 troy oz.) were produced from an open pit centered on a wedgeshaped unit of Tisdale Group basalt that occurs between two overturned, south facing units of Porcupine Group graywacke and argillite. Basalt/graywacke contacts are locally marked by graphiticcarbonaceous argillite, strike-parallel faults and massive quartz veins.Deformed quartz+/-ankerite veins occur along the graphitic sedimentary/volcanic contacts and in gently to moderately dipping fractures in basalts, and, to a lesser extent, in graywackes. Veins also occur sub-parallel to steeply dipping 070° foliation. Altered host basalts are composed of iron carbonate, sericite, quartz, carbon, chlorite and disseminated pyrite. Gold occurs as inclusions in pyrite, and less commonly as free gold in fractures and along graphite-quartz grain boundaries in quartz veins. Fractures preferentially developed in more competent basalts during pre- to syn-ore deformation are interpreted to have provided the permeability required for emplacement of mineralized quartz veins. Carbonaceous basalt/graywacke contacts further enhanced gold deposition by acting as chemical traps. The interaction of hydrothermal fluids with these carbonaceous sedimentary rocks led to the characteristic local darkening of host basalts due to carbon impregnation and chlorite development."

"As demands upon the earth's natural resources continue to grow, exploration companies, mining organizations and others face the problem of the need to tackle increasingly more difficult strata to open up new reserves. Innovations in materials technology and tool design have steadily improved this capability, but none perhaps so drastically as a recently introduced cemented carbide in which tool wear resistance and/or toughness can be tailored precisely to the user's drilling needs.Introduction Until about forty years ago, the bulk of rock-drilling operations had to be carried out with hardened steels. Short life between re-grinds was common especially in abrasive rock formations. Shortly after World War II, Sandvik, Sweden, pioneered the development of sintered (cemented) carbide-tipped steel tools as a means of improving drill tool life. The new material was a composite of tungsten carbide and cobalt, the latter acting as a 'cement' to bind the wear-resistant carbide grains together, and the composite, in turn, was brazed to the steel. The immediate effect was a 100-fold increase in the service life of the tool.Intractable ProblemsWhile the carbide-tipped tools served the mining and quarrying industries admirably there were, nonetheless, some seemingly intractable limitations. The greater the wear resistance of the material - the quality for which it is selected - the more brittle it is. Also, rocks vary widely in hardness and abrasiveness and no single tool, either in terms of material or shape, meets every need. Specifically, for fast penetration of non-abrasive rock, toughness must be combined with a relatively sharp tool prome. Highly abrasive rock, on the other hand, demands a substantially broad area of extremely wear-resistant material on the tool if long bit life is to be assured. Between these extremes there are innumerable variations in rock"

"This paper describes the automation of a mine hoist ore loading pocket using a programmable controller. It provides an introduction to programmable control, and outlines the various modes and operating sequences of the loading pocket. A comparison is made with previous equipment to illustrate the increased flexibility, reliability and diagnostic functions that are gained.IntroductionLoading pockets have evolved from a couple of manually operated air cylinders to entirely automated systems. Early pockets were usually formed in rock, with loading and discharging regulated by air-operated gate s. Interlocks, added to this arrangement, prevented simultaneous operation of the gates and ensured proper hoist position . As the loading pocket advanced, it was recognized that gravity feed posed problems, often becoming plugged or letting water run through into the shaft. A belt conveyor was employed, eliminating the se problems and resulting in greater loading control. Weighing the combination of transistorized logic modules, replaced many relay systems. This elimination of moving parts and contacts increased reliability and reduced maintenance costs.As semiconductor technology progressed, there were major breakthroughs in miniaturization and reliability, and as a result the programmable controller was introduced. Programmable controllers first appeared in the automotive industry in the late 1960's. A system controller was required to replace the large relay panels in operation at that time. The use of digital integrated circuitry enabled these programmable controllers to automate processes with hundreds of inputs and outputs. Advances in electronics reduced production costs , making controllers for smaller application s viable . This development is on-going, each generation introducing controllers with greater capabilities for a wider variety of systems. equipment was the next step in loading pocket development, and dependance on much of the manual control was reduced . "The history and analysis of a structurally complex open-pit rock slope displacement are described. The failure involved part of the only haulage access to a major ore zone. The ongoing movement was monitored using an electronic distance measuring device and a continuous electronic system specifically designed for the problem. A major fault, infilled with a thick clay gouge, and intersected by other structural features, resulted in the transfer of weight to a rock mass acting as a buttress in the lower regions. Movements were affected by blasting vibrations and ground-water conditions. Remedial measures included limiting blasting levels and lowering the water table, following which mining was successfully resumed in the area.IntroductionBrenda Mines is situated in a mountainous region of the southern interior of British Columbia; the location is indicated on Figure 1 . The elevation is approximately 5000 ft , giving a climate typical of more northern areas. Temperatures vary from -30°C to + 30°C. A snowfall level of 400-800 cm is experienced from November to April. During the spring, a heavy runoff period occurs, increasing the pumping rate in the pit from a nominal 50* gal/min to 2000 gal/min.The orebody occurs in a fractured Jurassic rock mass referred to as the Brenda Stock; it is approximately 3000 ft in diameter and 1000 ft deep. The Brenda Stock was intruded into the Upper Triassic Nicola Group tuffs, breccias and argillites. Mineralization occurred in several stages in a relatively homogeneous quartz diorite host rock. Shearing, faulting and jointing occured later in many stages, producing mineralized clay gouge zones up to several feet in thickness'> , These gouge zones have a major effect on the stability of the pit walls.The structural geology of the pit walls is otherwise relatively simple. Figure 2 is a conventional pole diagram indicating the orientation of the rock structural systems which are present. The major system has an average dip of approximately 70 degrees to the south and strikes approximately east /west , it is not undercu t by the pit slope. Figure 3 is a photograph of part of the North wall on which this system is indicated.The basic pit design consists of a working bench height of 50 ft, with a final wall height of 100 ft between berm s and a 100-ft-wide berm every second lift. Combined with a local face slope of 50-70 degrees, the resulting wall slope, not including haulage roads, is 45 degrees. Figures 4 and 5 are generalized plans and sectional views of the pit."

"Years before the present iron and steel works were established at Sydney, several thriving although short-lived iron work s operated in Nova Scotia. These furnaces reflected the general nineteenth-century North American experience with iron work s. At the beginning of the century, small furnaces struggled to supply local needs. Charcoal was the principle fuel and water powered most furnace equipment. By the end of the century, a few huge primary iron and steel work s dominated production for Nova Scotia and the rest of Canada.Two sites achieved prominence in the nineteenth-century Nova Scotia iron industry: Londonderry and Ferrona. Londonderry, the larger and longer-lasting of the two sites, is today a small village on the south flank of the Cobequid Mountains, about 30 km west of Truro. Prior to the establishment of an iron works in 1849, no community existed. At the peak of operation in the 1880s, however, over 2,600 people were located there. The second site, Ferrona, today is a mere crossroads on the map, about 10 km south of New Glasgow. Following the construction of a blast furnace there in 1892, a small village grew up around the furnace, but once the furnace was blown out in 1904, the population gradually drifted away.Early HistoryThe history of Nova Scotia's iron industry began in 1604 when Samuel Champlain became the first European to identify iron ore in the future province. Despite this early acknowledgment, iron was not smelted commercially in Nova Scotia for another two hundred years. Although primitive smelters of the period produced more iron than could be used locally, early settlers depended on imports of iron from Britain and the United States."

"Equipment capable of higher production requires more sophisticated maintenance programs. Reduction in fleet size through use of modern technology requires higher utilization and greater availability.Caterpillar's maintenance control system program will display the capabilities of computer technology in a maintenance environment. Utilizing such resources will provide increased availability, lower inventory requirements, fewer last minute disasters, and lower cost per ton for maintenance. High production from premium quality equipment can only be realized by good planning and care, executed by maintenance and operating personnel acting cooperatively.IntroductionAccurate information is the key to accurate decision making. In today' s competitive industry, mines' teeter on the brink between profit and loss. Their survival will be predicated on their ability to retrieve, analyze, and formulate accurate information regarding the operating costs of mobile equipment. This paper deals with the impact of managing equipment operating costs and introduces a computerized control system designed for monitoring and controlling these costs.Caterpillar has produced several computerized modelling programs designed at taking the guesswork out of equipment selection and management. The most basic of these is Equipment Investment Analysis (E.LA.). This model compares two or more alternatives over the projected life of the machine. It deals with comparisons in the owning and operating costs of equipment, as well as, their productivity over a specified period of time.In order for a computer model to be credible as a decision making tool, it must be simple to use and the results measurable and accountable . Caterpillar has introduced several computer models to assist the industry in selecting and managing an equipment fleet. These programs allow the user to predict and monitor the operating costs and production capability of mobile equipment. They are often used in the machine selection process to select equipment which best suits a mine's long-term cost per tonne objectives. After the optimum selection is made, Caterpillar's Maintenance Control System provides an efficient management tool to monitor and verify the data used in the selection model."

"Geophysical data are often presented on maps, sections or profiles with minimal data processing. A common example is magnetic data, in which the diurnal-free raw readings are merely contoured on a map. Other examples include profile presentation of VLF-EM data, IP pseudo-sections and airborne EM anomalies which may be shown on a map with only the measured amplitudes indicated.In recent years, efforts have been directed to the portraying of data in more useful forms. A number of algorithms (i.e., manipulative procedures and equations) have proven to contribute significantly to the usefulness of geophysical data. Some can be applied manually; others are sufficiently complicated to require a computer. Some merely alter the data to a more useful geometric form without altering the units. Others yield quantitative estimates of source body parameters such as conductivity and shape. Several examples follow:1. A simple algorithm is in common use which transforms noisy non-contourable VLF-EM data into less noisy contourable data. The input is the dip angle in degrees or per cent and the output is also in these same units.2. A simple algorithm has recently been developed which allows multi-level dipole-dipole IP data to be contoured on a map. Again, the units are not altered.3. A relatively complicated algorithm is in common use which transforms non-contourable height-sensitive helicopter EM data into contourable resistivity data,4. An algorithm has been recently developed which transforms non-contourable height-sensitive EM data into contourable weight per cent magnetite.The purpose of all the above techniques is to present the data in a simplified form. This, in turn, allows an easier assimilation by the user of much of the information content of the data."

Abstract - The Lupin mine, located in the central Slave province just east of the western boundary of Nunavut Territory, is a world-class example of a Neoarchean-aged banded iron formation (BIF)-hosted lode-gold deposit. At the minesite the gold-mineralized Lupin BIF, separating stratigraphically underlying psammitic wacke and overlying argillaceous turbidite sequences, delineates the Lupin dome, a hammerhead-shaped F2/F3 interference fold structure occurring at the greenschist to amphibolite facies metamorphic transition within the thermal aureole of the Contwoyto batholith. Detailed paragenetic relationships indicate that peak thermal metamorphism coincided with the switch from regional D2 compression to rapid D3 unroofing of the Neoarchean orogenic infrastructure. Gold initially precipitated with pyrrhotite, replacing amphibolitic BIF at the apex of the Lupin deformation zone, separating the east and west lobes of the Contwoyto batholith. Over the course of associated prograde/retrograde metasomatic overprints, gold was further remobilized during garnet and loellingite/arsenopyrite growth in chlorite-altered selvages of late-forming ladder quartz veins. A metamorphic model of ore genesis, with gold being scavenged and transported by metamorphic fluid that was shed and structurally trapped at the amphibolite recrystallization front, is favored over the previously proposed syngenetic and exogenic models of gold concentration that have tended to polarize genetic interpretations to date.

"The southern Abitibi Belt is the major source of gold in Quebec. Although the northern part of the belt is quickly being developed, the area under study will not be downgraded in the near future because it still contains more than 75% of the known reserves in the belt.Gold is found in a variety of geological environments which are part of a small number of distinct structural patterns. For the exploration geologist, outlining such patterns might be easier and more productive than defining, when it is possible, the exact genetic nature of the gold mineralization.Exploring in the right place has always been one of the main concerns of explorationists. This paper briefly describes the various favourable geological settings, and outlines areas, types of structure and lithologies of high potential for gold exploration in the southern Abitibi Belt.IntroductionThe southern part of the Abitibi Belt is a profilic mining area for precious and base metals (Lulin 1990). Although mineralizing processes and controls of polymetallic deposits are well known and understood (Lydon 1984), almost every gold occurrence is a unique case and numerous models have been proposed (Roberts 1987; Hodgson and McGeehan 1982; Hodgson 1990).This study does not define new genetic models for the formation of gold deposits, neither is it meant to elaborate on the existing ones. A genetic approach, is by definition, theoretical and, to some extent, universal. It helps geologists define types of targets and exploration tools but does not outline or quantify target areas. To tentatively summarize the complexity of a genetic approach, a brief discussion on the various genetic models in vogue in Abitibi and the problems related to their use in exploration can be found at the end of this paper."

"The Loss Prevention Program and management style applied at Kidd Creek enabled them to maintain a 1.02/200 000 man-hours accident frequency over a 20-year period. Falconbridge Limited, Kidd Creek Division operates a major zinc, copper, silver mine, two gold mines and a metallurgical facility in Timmins, Ontario. The metallurgical site and the base metal mine are 17 miles apart and joined by their own railroad. The minesite consists of two shafts, one 3000 feet deep and the other to 5200 feet deep, as well as the necessary maintenance and service shops. The metallurgical site consists of a 14 000 STPD concentrator, a zinc refining plant, copper smelter, copper refinery, and the necessary maintenance shops. The two gold mining operations are adjacent to the metallurgical site.At the time of writing this paper the workforce consisted of some 2500 people divided between the two sites. Nine hundred and ninety-two employees are stationed at the minesite, with the remainder at the metallurgical site and gold mines. The workforce in the Timmins operation is non-unionized and reflects the belief that employee interests are well served.Beside providing competitive wages and an excellent benefit package, Kidd Creek takes special pride in its employee relations practices and continued efforts in communication.In each of the programs referred to, there have been equal involvement by both management and the employees. Each crew, under the direction of a supervisor, makes up its own health and safety committee. To maintain a successful Loss Prevention Program, it is essential that management and the employees work closely together and provide meaningful input and effort to succeed.At this point, refer to the lost time injury frequency as a measure of failure and refer to the opposite end of the scale as the measure of success. The ultimate goal of every operating company is to have a zero frequency, therefore denoting 100070 success. The company uses most of the tangible safety aids found in other mining operations, such as safety posters, safety reminders, check lists, and the use of the Neil George Safety System. The difference is the manner and style of management at the Kidd Creek Division. Their ""open door"" policy and the close association, between management and the employees, has always served them well. Also, at Kidd Creek they believe they have a well-trained and dedicated workforce."
