During 1939 oil production experienced a new and important increase in Argentina in the productive areas of Comodoro Rivadavia (Territory of Chubut), Plaza Huincul (Territory of Neuquén), and those of the. Province of Mendoza. Production in the Standard Oil Company's field in the Province of Salta declined, but that of the Government oil fields in that province inereased 62.5 per cent.

In reading this article, it was difficult to follow through the example given as a starting point in the derivation of the theoretical equation which relates ball size to feed size. A discussion with F. C. Bond led to the following clarification: Bond postulates that "the breaking force exerted by a ball varies . . . as the cube of its diameter . . ." and that the force in pounds per square inch required to break a particle varies . . . as its diameter squared."

A recent visit with the engineering students of the Western University of Pennsylvania to the Keeling coal-mine on the south side of Pittsburgh furnished interesting matter to communicate, as may be the case, however, with regard to the striking features of any of our well-arranged larger collieries; for every mine surely appears unique as a whole, though description fails to give that impression, except in particulars.

If, however, you plot as abscissas the logarithms of the wattage, you get very nearly a straight line, so that you can interpolate the values with much greater accuracy than you can by using

The in situ high frequency electrical conductivity and permittivity of Colorado oil shale were recently measured. The measurements were made at 45 MHz (45 million cps) by transmitting from one borehole to two receiving boreholes, all boreholes in line. A differential measurement using the received signals was used to calculate the conductivity and permittivity.

CERTAIN titanium alloys when quenched to retain the 0 phase at room temperature show extensive transformation of 0 to martensitic a during deformation. Alloys of this type are usually characterized by low tensile yield strength, a large spread between yield strength and ultimate strength, and high uniform elongation. Data for 1962 world-wide, non-communist bloc geophysical activity, including geochemistry, are now available through the Society of Exploration Geophysicists. This information was made available to the AIME Geophysics Unit Committee through the courtesy of Charles L. Elliot, Mining Coordinator for the SEG. The data were compiled from 245 responses to 496 questionnaires mailed (49%). The data for the U.S. are a realistic representation of actual activity, followed by Asia, Canada, Europe, Australia, Africa and Latin America in order of decreasing reliability.
