Emissions from pyrometallurgical processing of copper concentrates are usually subjected to wet scrubbing. The washing sulphuric acid so produced contains up to 0.2 g/L of rhenium, which is recovered by solvent extraction in the form of crude ammonia permeate (NH4ReO4). The mother liquor, obtained from the sulfuric acid wash, contains up to 35 g/L of rhenium and significant amounts of impurities. Crude rhenium salt is commonly processed by double recrystallization to produce marketable salt. A ton of high grade NH4ReO4 can be produced using 3.0-3.5 m3 of mother liquor. We propose an efficient technology of mother liquor pre-treatment aimed at removal of water-soluble organics with subsequent electrodialysis. Electrodialysis of mother liquor in a multichamber electrodialyzer resulted in the production of pure rhenium acid, from which a marketable NH4ReO4 is precipitated using ammonia solution. Multiple steps of recycling consisting of dissolution of NH4ReO4 salt, rhenium acid production from NH4ReO4 salt by electrodialysis and precipitation of NH4ReO4 from rhenium acid made it possible to upgrade the purity of obtained rhenium compounds by 1-2 orders of magnitude. A rhenium metal powder of 99.997% purity was produced by high-temperature reduction of high-purity NH4ReO4 with gaseous hydrogen. Rhenium metal powder of high purity can be produced from sulfate solutions of NH4ReO4 by non-platinum anode-based membrane electrolysis processes also. For pretreatment of selective flotation, surface oxidation of chalcopyrite and molybdenite was applied by oxygen plasma then the minerals were washed by solution at pH 9 with oxygen bubbling. Surface characteristics of these minerals were investigated with AFM, XPS, zeta potential and contact angle measurements. Contact angle of chalcopyrite and molybdenite decreased a lot by plasma treatment. When they were washed with pH 9 solution with oxygen bubbling, contact angle of molybdenite increased whereas chalcopyrite one kept low. Adhesion force measurements indicated similar behavior. Result of flotation experiments indicated low recovery of both chalcopyrite and molybdenite after plasma treatment and only molybdenite recovery became higher after washing. Selective flotation of chalcopyrite and molybdenite could be achieved with this process. Possible mechanism of selective flotation was proposed from the results of XPS, AFM, etc.

"It has been suggested that hydroxo species, particularly those of calcium, selectively adsorb onto gangue minerals. Such species enhance the depressive action of carboxymethyl cellulose (CMC) onto gangue via an acid-base interaction between the positively charged mineral surface and the negatively charged CMC molecule. Thus, the hydrophilicity of gangue minerals is enhanced, preventing the dilution of the concentrate. However, as there is little evidence to support these claims it is important to investigate. Adsorption data and mineral surface charge analyses will allow a fundamental understanding into how electrolytes and their ionic strengths affect gangue-depressant adsorption. It is strongly anticipated that decoupling these effects will allow process operators to tailor their process water quality needs towards best flotation operating regimes and in the long run effect closed water circuits. Thus, using talc and pyrrhotite as proxies, this work investigates the influence of the ionic strength of process water on the adsorption of CMC onto minerals in sulphide flotation.INTRODUCTIONThe phenomenon of gangue depression in mineral flotation is of critical importance as regards the attainment of a required concentrate grade. This thus suggests that the depressant of choice has to have a highly selective affinity for the targeted gangue minerals. This would ensure the necessary prevention of gangue from reporting to the concentrate without inadvertently depressing the value bearing mineral. The chemistry of the environment regulates the manner in which gangue depression occurs. In sulphide flotation, polysaccharides are used as depressants of choice to depress naturally floatable gangue which may in the case of Merensky ores exist as talc. The two widely used polysaccharides in the South African context are carboxymethyl cellulose (CMC) and modified guar gum. It is suggested that polysaccharides depress gangue by rendering the surface of gangue hydrophilic or by preventing the formation of hydrophobic layers on gangue mineral surface, forming large gangue aggregates and thereby increasing their heterocoagulative nature (Shortridge et al., 1999)."

Molybdenite flotation is strongly depressed at pH higher than 9.5 in the flotation of Cu-Mo ores in sea water. Chemically sea water contains mainly Na+ and Cl- ions, but also some secondary ions, such as SO42-, Mg2+; Ca2+, HCO3-; etc., which are not necessarily indifferent for the flotation of molybdenite. The natural floatability of molybdenite in sea water and in NaCl solutions containing different secondary ions is investigated by micro-flotation tests. The tests indicate that the floatability of molybdenite in alkaline media in 0.6 M NaCl solutions is not affected by the presence of anions, such as, SO42- and HCO3-, at concentrations similar to those occurring in sea water. However, a strong depression of molybdenite at pH ranging from 9.5-10.0, is produced by the alkaline earth metal cations (Ca2+ and Mg2+ ions), dissolved in distilled water or in 0.6M NaCl solutions. It was found that effect of Mg2+ions is significantly stronger than Ca2+ ions. Effect of both ions is attributed to hydrolysis and adsorption of MOH+ hydroxy-complexes. This is followed by subsequent precipitation of hydrophilic colloidal hydroxides at the molybdenite/solution interface, and in bulk solution.

"The aim of the study is to develop and scientifically justify a new adaptive approach to the separating processes of deep and complex processing technogenic mineral raw materials. Technogenic mineral resources as a waste of mining and processing industry are mostly complex objects that have specific features of material composition and technological properties and make it processing ineffective with traditional schemes of mineral raw materials enrichment. Mineral wastes are regarded in this study as a complex object with a large number of signs in conditions of uncertain environment and object. However, adaptation is regarded as the process management system’ adaptation to the specific the properties of the object and the environment that has several hierarchical levels corresponding to different stages in the management of complex object. An adaptive approach is considered as a methodological basis of multivariate schemes for opening the mineral resources and creating mechanisms that could transfer these potential technogenic resources to the actual that significantly expand the mineral resource base of the country's black, coloured, rare, noble metals and construction materials. In this case, potentially the solution to the most pressing social and environmental problems associated with the adverse effects of past economic activity simultaneously with the commercial objectives. This approach to the wastes mining and related processing manufacturers meets the core idea of sustainable development as the balance of interests of State, society, business, private enterprise and each person in the areas of rational use of resources, economic efficiency and environmental safety. On the example of metal-containing raw materials in the form of slags of ferrous and nonferrous metallurgy, ferrous metallurgy sludge, mature fine tailings, the application of adaptive approach illustrates to the development of technologies of its deep and complex processing as phased, thoughtful movement from a comprehensive study of technogenic raw materials to build optimal topologies of technological schemes for processing the mineral wastes. INTRODUCTION Involving the Russian economy in the system of global economic relations significantly changes the nature of the country's competitiveness in the development of the world market and urgently requires competent management of its own natural and mineral resources. The latter at the present time in real economic processes cease to be a passive material foundation and become the producing basis in the production processes in the status of so-called natural capital. Introduced in the field of economic theory at the end of the 20th century, this term means both the flow of natural services and real natural resources. Consequently, natural objects, which act as natural resources of a certain production, today must necessarily be evaluated in a strategic sense. Modern standards of sustainable development presuppose that the economy should equally be oriented to balance the interests of the state, society, business, individual enterprise and each person in the spheres of rational use of resources, preservation of healthy ecosystems, ensuring well-being, high quality of life and environmental safety of not only the current generation, but also respect for the rights of future generations, that is, intergenerational equality. Most types of minerals are classified as non-renewable resources, therefore resource-saving in the sphere of mineral and raw materials complexes is one of the most important factors-indicators characterizing the degree of approximation to the model of rational subsoil use, and, consequently, sustainable development (State Report, 2017)."

Cobalt-rich ferromanganese crust and nodule ores from seamount areas contain volcanic and sedimentary rocks as substrate or nuclei and these ores require mineral processing to remove the substrate/nuclei rock before smelting. This paper reviews the results of jig separation and air table treatment for the coarse fraction and flotation and hybrid jigging for the fine fraction. Using these techniques substrate/nuclei rock was removed from the cobalt-rich ferromanganese oxide components. The mineralogical properties and metallurgical treatment methods including hydrometallurgical treatment of low grade ore is also reviewed.

"Multimetal gold-antimony ores are complexed processing products, since they are characterized by veindisseminatedsulfide mineralization with fine-dispersed submicroscopic gold, low content and uneven distribution ofAu, which is concentrated together with iron sulfides (pyrite, arsenopyrite, pyrrhotite). Such ores are classified asrefractory ones and characterized by low gold recovery rates during cyanation. A particular feature of gold-antimonydeposits is the presence of antimony in industrial concentrations therein, along with gold that significantly increasesthe value of these deposits. The main antimony mineral is antimony sulfide - antimonite (stibnite). Gold-antimonyores undergo flotation concentration with producing collective gold-containing concentrates or gold sulfide andantimony concentrates. The purpose of the work is an experimental study of the flotation separation mechanism ofsulfide minerals of copper, antimony and arsenic using tannin-containing modifiers during processing of multimetalgold-bearing ores. During the research it was established that for the selective separation of antimony and arsenicsulfide minerals into concentrates of different kinds, it is possible to use vegetable reagents capable to be selectivelyadsorbed on the arsenopyrite surface. Using the laser KEYENCE VK-9700 and electronic LEO-1420 VP INCA-350microscopy methods, it has been established that the film of a vegetable modifier was not washed off with water andfixed firmly enough on the surface of the polished sections of arsenopyrite. In the X-ray spectrum there are C and Obands related to the reagent structure. The vegetative reagent is fixed both on the pre-adsorbed phase of the collectorand on the areas free from the collector. On the polished sections of antimonite before and after a contact with thetannin solution, only partial adsorbed tannin phases are detected, which disappear as a result of subsequent washingwith water.The reported study was funded by RFBR according to the research project ? 16-05-00646 ?."

Water based paint formulations consist of some industrial minerals with quantities varying from 20 to 50 %. Quality of paint is directly related to these minerals used as pigment or filler in the production. Titanium dioxide is the most important and expensive pigment in paint formulations. Other minerals such as calcite and calcined kaolin are used as filler and mainly as a substitute for TiO2. Consequently, particle-particle interactions including adsorption, coating and size distribution of pigment mixture directly affects the paint quality. In the present paper, a new type of pigment mixture for possible use in architectural water based paints was developed through grinding. The effect of different types of grinding methods on physical properties of TiO2 and calcite mixture and the quality of paint produced by these mixtures have been revealed. Three different types of mills; conventional ball mill, vibratory ball mill and high-speed attritor were used for grinding of TiO2 and calcite. Viscosity, zeta potential and particle size distributions were used to characterize the pigment mixtures obtained upon grinding. The quality of paint was evaluated by standards based on both wet and dry paints such as viscosity, density, opacity and gloss. The paint produced with the pigment mixtures prepared in vibratory ball mill and high speed attritor showed improvement in physical properties particularly in the distribution and dispersion of mineral particles. "Wet low intensity magnetic separation has been used for the recovery of magnetite for decades. As high-grade reserves continue to decline, low grade magnetite ores are being targeted for iron production. Low grade magnetite mineralisation is typically fine grained and requires fine to ultrafine grinding (P80 40 - 30 µm) to liberate it from, predominantly, silica/silicate gangue matrices. Grinding to such particle sizes requires high power consumption and produces excessive fines which impact negatively on wet magnetic separation and tailings dewatering. In addition, the dearth of fresh water for mineral processing in arid areas impacts negatively on the economic viability of low grade magnetite projects. These challenges have motivated innovation in dry magnetic separation technologies for the beneficiation of magnetite that can be economically applied on a large-scale. Such technology has been developed in the Cyclomag Planar magnetic separator (PMS) invented by South Australia-based Christopher Kelsey of IMPTEC P/L. The significant gangue mineralisation associated with magnetite ores in South Australia is quartz. In this study, the performance of the Cyclomag PMS on the recovery of magnetite mineral from magnetite-quartz blends was investigated. Magnetite-quartz blend were subjected to the PMS at varying control parameters - magnet discs rotation speed, inlet airflow and feeder speed. The study showed a successful dry separation of magnetic mineral from non-magnetics using the Cyclomag PMS. The PMS has potential to effectively recover magnetite mineral."

"A study was made of chemical and material compositions of the oxidized gold-bearing ore of the Kochkovskoe deposit. It was demonstrated that examined ore consisted mainly of quartz, carbonate and feldspar with a gold content of 2.2 g/t and a silver content of 6.1 g/t. By means of agitation leaching tests it was founded that about 79-80 % of gold can be extracted from ore using cyanide leaching solutions. The achieved high-speed dissolution rate of gold was due to its presence in a finely dispersed state (less than 2.73 µm), which was confirmed by the research of Uralmekhanobr. It was proposed that the ore can be processed by heap leaching process using cyanide leach solutions. Technological studies on the modeling of the heap leaching process were initially carried out in percolators with a capacity of 5 kg on agglomerated ore. It was preliminary established that agglomeration should be carried out at a cement consumption of 12-16 kg/t, with the moisture content in pellets reaching up to 10-12 %. The best percolation leaching results can be obtained with ore crushed to the size of -20 mm. The maximum extraction of gold to the solution was 79-80 % while the L:S ratio reached 1.2-1.4:1.In cooperation with the research center of OJSC ""Berezovsky mine"" a semi-industrial heap leaching test was accomplished. The result of a test performed was an extraction of 78.5 % of Au and 21 % of Ag from ore to a pregnant solution. This extraction degree was achieved at a L:S ratio 0.9: 1. On the ground of results obtained, a technical regulation was developed for design of the heap leaching plant with the capacity of 500 thousand tons of ore per year.INTRODUCTION The ore of the Kochkovskoe deposit represents an important reserve of gold in the Zabaikal region. This paper deals with the laboratory investigation of cathode ray tube (CRT) glass based glass foam, a relatively new product so called ?Geofil bubbles?. The main process engineering material properties of raw materials, such as particle size distribution, moisture content, density and specific surface area are shown. Then the preparation of raw cathode ray tube glass waste is presented including the following steps: crushing in impact crusher, grinding in laboratory scale ball mill, mixing, pelleting and sintering. We found that it was possible to produce foam glass (with proper mechanical stability and particle density) from the investigated waste CRT glass. The material characteristics of the final product strongly depend on the sintering conditions. Optimum conditions were determined particle size fraction was found to be 4-6 mm, temperature 800 0C, residence time 7.5 min. Keywords: waste CRT glass, grinding, pelleting, sintering, glass foam

A significant part of the currently production of the non-ferrous and precious metals is from sulfide ores. Character feature of sulfide ores is the presence in them always pyrite and wide range of different sulfide minerals else. These minerals are the carriers of valuable for industry metals. Due to the low content of the main components, very often call on the use of collective- selective flow-sheets. The extraction of minerals in the collective concentrates determined in a large extent the effectiveness of the collective-selective sheets. In conditions of bulk flotation kinetics to floatate of the various minerals is different. Due to why it is and how it can be used for a more effective selection of minerals ?this is the main task of this report. For this purpose are used results from the bulk flotation of pyrite, copper sulfides, molybdenite, galena, blenda. It is separated and place of host rocks. Base it of large experimentation material, including both electro-kinetic measurements of mineral systems, as well as laboratory flotation tests and factories monitoring it is established kinetics of flotation of mineral particles in conditions of collective flotation. Made an effort to clarify the effect as of the species and the proportion of different sulfide minerals involved in flotation pulp else. Traced was the impact of the density and aeration of the flotation pulp on deferens in kinetics of mineral flotation in condition of balk flotation. The obtained results are used to increase the efficiency of the diffraction flotation of the complex sulfide ores containing precious metals. "This research represents a shift away from empirical models that lock the industry into 50-year old inefficiencies with little response to operating variability. The mechanistic and intrinsically dynamic mill model under development steps up to a new paradigm using the latest computing capabilities and physical understanding of breakage and transport to transform predictive capabilities for design, optimisation and on-line control with variable feed. The milling process is broken down into discrete sub-processes, each of which can be modelled as an object in the whole model and in the model code. These objects can be upgraded or exchanged without having to rewrite or restructure the remainder of the code. Sub-processes include: feed into mill; transport along mill; presentation to impacting events; range of impacting forces; probability of being impacted in different zones in the mill as a function of particle size and density; suspension in slurry; and discharge out of the mill. The unit and processes surrounding the mill (feed and recycle conveyors, slurry pump and pipe, cyclone and recycle crusher) have also been modelled, in order to incorporate the effect of recirculating load coming from a cyclone or a recycle pebble crusher, respectively for ball mills or SAG mills. Each unit is modelled dynamically and PID controllers have been added to control pumping flowrate from sump and water addition for cyclone feed dilution. The paper demonstrates the predictive capability of a dynamic, mechanistic model and is used to test the sensitivity to the sub-processes, comparing different formulations and highlighting the aspects that require further development. Validation on pilot tests and application to industrial data is presented. This approach is currently undergoing industrial trial on sites, for use in on-line model-informed process control. Considerable further development is required to incorporate the full mechanistic structure planned for this model."

The modelling of bath type furnaces tends to be either fundamental in nature or total empirical "black box models". While models of the first kind are robust, they tend to lack accuracy, in cases where they are to be used for process control, and may take an overly long in development time. On the other hand, black box models tend to lack robustness of prediction for all circumstances and tend to be limited to interpolate based on historical data. While this may very often provide short-term accuracy, the models may have problems with stability in the long term. Moreover, the model structure may not reflect any of the fundamental properties of the system and remains opaque to fundamental analysis. The aim of the model development is in obtaining a model that have robustness, high accuracy, a short development time and which is adaptive to a changing environment. The models are specifically developed for on-line decision support or control of furnaces. The modelling approach is evaluated for a chromite bath smelting furnace. The role of systems analysis, mass balance smoothing, thermodynamic analysis are integrated into one generic algorithm for bath type furnaces. Therefore, this paper argues that to understand complex metallurgical furnaces a hybrid approach is the only method to fully grasp the intricacies of metallurgy, to improve operations, economics as well as environmental performance.

"Among the problems of the civilization development, a problem of interaction between man and natural environment can be highlighted. In the twentieth century the human transforming activity had got scales of geological processes and defined the contradiction between the goal to increase the quality of human life and possibilities of the natural environment. Last twenty-five years after the World Summit on the Environment (1992) indicate that the development of civilization is still based on receiving super profits from the natural resources exploitation. This statement is confirmed by economy globalization rates, growing contradictions between consumption and production, depletion and degradation natural environment. A new technological order is formed at the time of growing world population, technological capacities, organizational complexity, from one side, and global scales of geo-resources consumption, on the other side. Sciences, determining the further civilization development, should take on the task to change the social worldview, since the preservation of human population consists in remediating and maintenance of biosphere functions as a regulator of ecological balance. The new worldview in the geo-resources exploitation is based on the Ecological strategy of mining development, which consists in reducing mining-induced loading on natural environment while increasing efficient mineral production and processing, and providing for a comprehensive solution of tasks on mineral deposit development. One of strategic trend of mining development is to increase complexity and completeness of useful component extraction from ore and mining deposits while reducing wastes and decreasing their stockpiled volumes. The implementation of the ecological strategy has shown that the future is determined by reduction of the environmental impact while improving the efficiency of mineral mining and processing.INTRODUCTION The global nature of environmental problems caused by the scale of consumption of natural resources, huge amounts of waste, and intensive man-made impact on the environment requires a revision of the strategy for the natural resources development. Many existing technologies are ineffective in achieving the ultimate goal. Direct output in the raw materials - the end product technological chain rarely exceeds 10%, which implies a huge amount of work to move the soil. In addition, the feature of scientific and technological progress at the present stage is the growth of power-to-weight ratio."

"The effect of EPS components namely protein, polysaccharide and biosurfactant purified from Pseudomonas fluorescens was investigated for the bioremediation of Pb(II) ions in aqueous solution. Two parameters, namely the amount of EPS component and the concentration of Pb(II) ions were optimized for maximum Pb(II) ions uptake. The EPS components interacted with Pb(II) ions were characterized using energy dispersive X-ray analysis (EDAX) to ascertain the presence of Pb and by attenuated total reflection-Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (ATR–FTIR) to reveal the functional groups involved in Pb(II) binding. The maximum Pb(II) binding capacities of protein, polysaccharide and biosurfactant were found to be 11.4, 0.55 and 0.11 mg mg-1 respectively. The biosorption processes followed the Langmuir model. The Gibbs free energy (?G0) values of -23.6, -20.9 and -23.2 kJ mol-1 for Pb(II) biosorption by protein, polysaccharide and biosurfactant respectively, attested to spontaneous, chemisorption processes. The ATR–FTIR results revealed the presence and involvement of amino, hydroxyl, carboxyl, phosphate, and methyl functional groups in Pb(II) binding and EDAX analysis confirmed the interaction of Pb with EPS components. The Pb(II) binding mechanisms of EPS have been discussed. The results demonstrate the potential of the purified EPS components of P. fluorescens for removal of Pb(II) ions from aqueous solution INTRODUCTION Waste water containing toxic metals from various industries pose a serious threat to human health and ecosystem. For treating such waste water, conventional methods like chemical precipitation, coagulation, evaporative recovery, electrodialysis, floatation, flocculation, ion exchange, reverse osmosis, nanofiltration, ultrafiltration are used (Lakherwal et al., 2014). These methods have some disadvantages like toxic sludge generation, incomplete metal removal and high cost (Singh and Gadi, 2012), necessitating the search for cheaper and efficient alternative methods. Bioremediation is one of the emerging alternatives where bacteria, fungi, yeast, algae and other biological substances are used as sorbents to remove toxic heavy metals (Vijayaraghavan, et al., 2015). Recently, the bioremediation potential of extracellular polymeric substances (EPS) of microbial origin has attracted attention. However, for Pb(II) removal, there is a paucity of literature focusing on EPS."

Laboratory tests were conducted to evaluate the breakage characteristics of pyrophyllite in a laboratory ball mill. In grinding tests, the breakage characteristics were analyzed using the mathematical kinetic models based on the two breakage functions; the specific rate of breakage and the primary breakage distribution. Two samples having similar chemical composition show identical values in specific rate of breakage. In comparison, there are different values of primary breakage distribution for each sample. The size distributions of the product with various grinding time are well described by the parameters from non-linear searching.

To extract the gold from refractory gold concentrate with high sulfur and arsenic, the gold concentrate was catalytically oxidized to expose the gold for cyanide leaching. The effects of reaction temperature, initial nitric acid concentration, reaction time and initial gold concentrate concentration on the conversion rate were studied. The results show that the appropriate conditions for the catalytical oxidation of this gold concentrate are: reaction temperature of 65 oC; initial nitric acid concentration of 25% (wt.); reaction time of 1.5 hours; initial gold concentrate concentration of 10% (wt.). Under such conditions, the conversion rate of gold concentrate is 92%. The solution can be used to prepare nano-iron oxide red pigment. Gases released in the process can be recycled and reused by oxidation absorption. A chemical background of catalytic oxidation is proposed.

This paper covers the iron ore industry in India which cater to the need of iron ore requirement of Indian iron and steel sector as well as export commitment in addition to addressing the industry?s key concern to attain the same. The main contents are (i) resources and its exploitation; covering status of exploration, reserves and resources, province wise occurrences, distribution, nature of mineralization and generation of fines, etc ; (ii) use of iron ore in iron and steel making, covering physical and chemical requirements for pig iron and sponge iron production; (iii) ore characteristics and beneficiation practice in vogue; (iv) projected steel demand and requirement of quality iron ore and provision thereof; (v) recovery of iron values from in situ low-grade ores and stacked fine rejects (-10/-6 mm) inclusive of slimes (-0.15 mm) from tailing ponds; (vi) agglomeration of fine concentrates preferably by pelletization; (vii) measures to augment iron ore availability for future requirements.

This contribution deals with the mineral processing of Li-silicate greisen-type ores comprising of quartz, topaz and zinnwaldite (lithium-rich mica). The origin of the greisen-type ores processed is the Ore Mountains(Germany) where it is explored as a potential resource for the production of lithium carbonate. The goal is to develop a process chain for the enrichment of zinnwaldite using dry techniques only. As basis for the investigation the process chain, which historically was used to process the greisen focused on cassiterite and wolframite, is taken and modified towards the zinnwaldite. Starting with crushed material with particle sizes smaller than 35 millimeters, investigations on different approaches to grinding to liberate mica from gangue are carried out. Concentrates of zinnwaldite are then produced by magnetic separation of size fractions. To assess the success of grinding, classification and separation, mineral liberation analysis and atomic absorption spectroscopy are used. The amount of lithium measured in the sample with atomic absorption spectroscopy was used to calculate the content of zinnwaldite based on its known mineral chemistry. Combined with the particle size distributions, product qualities are determined. Altogether, this allows the thorough evaluation of the success of comminution with focus on following steps of concentration.
