The "mass balance" is unquestionably the most common class of problems for the process engineer'. Closely related, mathematically, is the "heat balance". Every laboratory test requires a mass balance to describe the results. Mass balance calculations can be subdivided into several sub-categories based on whether the results are time dependant or not and depending on whether the input data are measurements that contain errors or are hypothetical values with no errors. Time dependent mass balances are dynamic process simulations and in addition to the conservation of mass constraints require kinetic data input. They are one step beyond simple mass balances.

The coal mining industry must be able to compete with alternate sources of fuel for the utility and industrial customers. If the industry is unable to control transportation costs, either due to government interference, or for other reasons, then mining costs must be kept down. Australia, South Africa, Canada, (and later Colombia) will take larger shares of the export market if mining costs are not kept competitive. The government's environmental regulations must be met without incremental increases in mining costs. Entrepreneurial instincts must be retained by the industry to provide for their investment in the future. What are the Problems with Existing Research? Government funding for coal mining research has been reduced or virtually eliminated. BCR (Bituminous Coal Research) is now a membership- supported organization, but its primary focus has been on health and safety-oriented research. BCR, however, is now attempting to widen its scope and conduct other types of research. There are almost no funds in EPRI's (Electric Power Research Institute) program for coal mining research. Large mining companies do some research for their own purposes and needs, but this is proprietary and therefore results are not shared with the remainder of the industry. The mining industry as a unit is not undertaking productivity (systems) oriented research in any common or cohesive manner.

The mining industry appears to be slowly rebounding. But many individuals and company officials are still smarting from the beating they received during the recent recession. As a result, companies have taken the "lean and mean" approach. As pointed out at the Oct. 24-26, 1984 SME-AIME Fall Meeting in Denver, CO, companies are placing more emphasis on optimizing their operations through more efficient mining and processing technologies and equipment. Empathizing with the mining industry's woes was the meeting's welcoming luncheon speaker, John D. Withrow, Jr., executive vice president product development for Chrysler Corp. Withrow paralleled Chrysler's problems of a few years ago with the current problems facing the US mining industry. He said Chrysler's come-back centered around its engineering and technical personnel, who regained "their seat at the head table." "In short," Withrow said, "we had lost the competitive edge. By cutting costs and people and improving our products we got everybody to believe we could." The 2700 participants at the Fall Meeting attended technical sessions geared toward turning mining back into a productive and profitable industry. Sessions and symposia included papers on precious metals extraction, crushing and grinding innovations, geomechanics, environmental control, health and safety, and various commodities. This article briefly highlights some of the papers presented. To order preprints of these technical papers, see ME, December 1984, pages 1620 and 1621. Computers Gain Mining Acceptance High tech has reached mining. As evidenced by many papers, computers have become valuable tools in many applications. These include tailings ponds operation and waste management; truck dispatching; mine design, simulation, and scheduling; monitoring; and reclamation. Mine planning is generally labor intensive and requires a considerable amount of the planner's time. P. K. Chatterjee, X. Chung, and Y. Jianjy described a computer-generated interactive graphics approach to under-ground coal mine planning that lessens the manhours involved in producing plans. The computer program examined exploratory borehole information. This included coal seam thickness, tonnage, quality constraints, and the nature of their distribution. Layout designs were then initiated and a probabilistic simulation performed to determine production levels of different extraction strategies. The interactive graphics approach gives planners the ability to quickly evaluate several layout alternatives and select the best one. For surface coal mines, M. A. White, of Arch Minerals Corp., explained several computer programs that aided in his company's surface mine plans. Several drill hole database and modeling pack¬ages are available. But Arch tech¬nicians developed specific pro¬grams for model strip areas. They were used to form long-term pro¬jections for various area and semi¬area stripping operations. They also generated reports on yard¬age, tonnage, quality, and ratio in¬formation. The information is used in budgeting, to compare mine plans, and to analyze acqui¬sition candidates. While computer-based truck dispatching systems have been used in mining for some time, earlier systems were run on ex¬pensive mainframe or high per¬formance minicomputers. As such, computer-based truck dis¬patching systems have been too expensive for all but the largest mines. Recently, however, a microcomputer-based system, af¬fordable to smaller mine opera¬tors, has become technologically feasible. Y. C. Kim and W. E. Kolb re¬ported on a simulated microcom¬puter system that uses strategi¬cally placed signposts in the pit area to automatically detect truck movements. A microprocessor in the signpost sends information to the microcomputer. The computer determines the truck's assign¬ment and alerts the dispatcher. He radios the driver his assign¬ment. In addition to the technical pa¬pers, an introductory short course on microcomputers was offered at the meeting. L. M. Kass and J. P. One of the critical parameters of any automated coal mining system is the ability to only cut coal and not the rock / waste surrounding it. To do this the system must be able to detect where the coal-rock/ waste interface is. The U.S. Bureau of Mines is investigating a new approach to vibrational coal interface detection (CID) by utilizing an adaptive signal discrimination (ASD) system to perform feature extraction and classification of complex vibrational signals. Accelerometers, geophones, and piezoelectric films are mounted on mining machines and/or strata and are used to monitor vibrations produced during mining operations. Selected data are digitized and the ASD system is trained on known types of vibrations (e.g., "cutting coal" and "starting to cut roof"). A signal classifier is then generated which can be used to identify unknown waveforms. The ASD system can be retrained if mining conditions change significantly.

Virtually all industries use sulphur in some form. About half of the world's production is used in the production of fertilizers. Sulphur is produced in one form or another in over sixty countries in the world. The major producing countries, in order of importance, are: U.S.A., Canada, U.S.S.R., Poland, Japan, France, Mexico, and Spain. Canada is the largest exporter of sulphur presently supplying about 30% of the world elemental sulphur export trade. It has held this position since 1968. World sulphur resources are virtually unlimited. Future world competition will come from Iraq and other Middle East countries as well as Central and South America.

In January of 1966, during the annual session of Georgia's General Assembly, Representative Paul E. Nessmith of Statesboro, Georgia, walked into my office and asked me what I thought of the advisability and feasibility of a law which would require the mining operators to reclaim their mined out lands. My answer to him was, as a one time mine superintendent and operator, that I probably would not think very highly of the added cost which reclamation would impose on the operation; but that since assuming the job of Chief Geologist and Assistant Director of the Georgia Department of Mines, Mining and Geology, and in retrospect, I could recommend it very highly, particularly in view of the increased pressure being applied by the Federal government along these lines. I stated then and still emphatically state that this sort of administration should be done on the State level rather than the Federal level. He asked me if I would conduct him on a tour through some of the mining country in which I had worked and to this I readily agreed. The result of this trip was that he was adversely impressed by the devastation which the mining operations had wreaked on that area of middle Georgia along the fall line known as the kaolin belt. Very little except talk was done for the remainder of 1966.

The experimental results of some wet batch and continuous grinding experiments carried out in a 40 x 40 cm grate discharge ball mill have been analyzed for the variation of the grinding rate parameters, Si, with various operating conditions using a linearized population balance model. The wet grinding tests were carried out under conditions which were very similar to those encountered in the actual practice in plant operation. Well distributed -4 and -20 mesh feeds of two complex pyritic ores were used. The volume-percent solids in the pulp ranged from 30-40, the particle load from 5-8 kg, and the solids feed rate from 70-1 10 kg/hr.

The Bureau of Mines, U. S. Department of the Interior, is conducting research on a dewatering technique for fine particles generated during the mineral beneficiation process that will recover a portion of the water now being lost using conventional waste disposal methods and significantly reduce the time required for land reclamation. The technique utilizes a flocculant, polyethylene oxide (PEO), that forms strong stable flocs that can be dewatered rapidly on static and/or rotary screens. In field tests, phosphate clay waste has been dewatered from a nominal 2.5 percent solids to greater than 20 percent solids. In other field tests, coal-clay waste has been dewatered from a nominal 3 percent solids to greater than 55 percent solids, in addition, small-scale continuous tests have shown that bentonitic clays can be dewatered from 12 percent solids to 40 percent solids.

"INTRODUCTION Steel sets such as H-type and lattice girders are often installed in the tunnels before the hardening of shotcrete to ensure the stability of conventional tunnels in soft ground conditions. In practice, while designing the tunnels with the help of numerical analysis, steel sets are generally considered only as temporary support elements. Only a few studies propose the direct application of composite support in the tunnel design, based on large-scale experiments and numerical analysis. In order to assess the structural performance of the composite support consisting of shotcrete and steel sets, large-scale experiments were performed on two types of arch-shaped specimens by applying the combined effects of axial forces and bending moments. Based on the experimental results, numerical analysis was performed to assess the application of composite support in tunnel design. The crown settlement, axial forces, bending moments, and load distribution in the composite support were analyzed in the light of different structural patterns. LARGE-SCALE EXPERIMENTS USING COMPOSITE SUPPORT Preparation and Procedure of the Experiments The preparation setup as well as the organized procedure of the large-scale experiments using composite support is shown in Figure 1. An appropriate geometry of the specimens was selected by considering the standard cross-section of a two-lane highway tunnel in South Korea. Under the loading conditions meant to develop the axial forces and bending moments simultaneously, arch-shaped specimens were assembled with the ends of the specimens subtending a 60° arc angle at the center of the arc circle as shown in Figure 2. The fabrication of six specimens was completed in two groups based on the dimensions of steel sets, with the first group of three specimens being reinforced by H100 (No.1, No.2, No.3) and the other three by H125 (No.4, No.5, No.6). In order to reduce the voids on the boundary of the shotcrete and steel sets, concrete was casted over the steel sets instead of using shotcrete. The specimens were designed to incorporate the uniaxial compressive strength of 21 MPa. Shear keys and steel plates were installed at the ends of the specimens, so that shear failure could be avoided at the ends and the specimens could also be protected from detachment at the fixation. Translational and rotational movements at the ends of specimens were fixed."

The latest estimates compiled by the Society of Exploration Geophysicists again indicate a moderate increase in mining geophysical activity in 1980 over the 1979 level. While North American activity remained at above the 1979 level, a considerable increase in mining geophysics was reported in South America, Australia, and the Far East. The total worldwide expenditures for mining geophysics were reported to be $53.7 million in 1980, compared to $44.4 million in 1979, and $31.6 million in 1978. During 1980, approximately 2% of all dollars spent on geophysics were attributed to mining geophysical activities; this percentage has remained relatively constant in recent years. Airborne surveys accounted for 51% of the total worldwide mining geophysical expenditure, 43% was spent for land surveys, and 6% for borehole surveys. Within the US, the breakdown of expenditures for land surveys was 60% for elec¬trical methods, 23% for gravity and magnetic methods, and 17% for seismic techniques. Electrical techniques remain the primary exploration tool for US mining geophysicists. Electrical Methods With inductive or electromagnetic (EM) techniques, significant developments were achieved in both frequency-domain and time-domain systems. Work continued on increasing the signal level on most time-domain (TEM) methods, to increase the exploration depth. The Crone group increased the power of its Pulse ElectroMagnetic system (PEM) to a 20-amp transmitter-loop capability. The GEOEX group is modifying the SIROTEM II system to obtain larger transmitter amperage from a portable motor generator. Geonics developed a new digital recording system (data logger) for its EM-37 system. This development should increase the productivity of EM-37 crews. A new ground, frequency-domain EM system was developed by the Scintrex group. This novel Genie system does not require a wire link between the receiver and transmitter. Because an amplitude-ratio is measured, the Genie data are reported to be relatively insensitive to coil orientation and distance errors. This new technique does not need extensive line-cutting or accurate station-chaining and would appear to be a good reconnaissance instrument. Scintrex also began marketing the new IPR-11 induced polarization spectral receiver. This receiver is microprocessor controlled, and can output to a cassette tape and record 10 windows of secondary voltage decay simultaneously from up to six receiver dipoles. The Phoenix group's new 100 kW induced polarization/resistivity (IP/R) transmitter began tests using their IPV-3 multifrequency, multichannel receiver. While this unit was primarily developed for "oilfield" IP exploration research, it has obvious application to "deep" mineral exploration. The Phoenix group also developed a new remote-reference, real-time magneto-telluric (MT) device in 1981. This five-component MT sys¬tem has a frequency range from 0.0005-384 Hz. Helicopter-borne electromagnetic (HEM) developments also continued in 1981. The mining in¬dustry increased its use of the new Geonics EM-33-3 multifrequency, multicoil instrument. In 1981, the Dighem group developed software for estimating magnetite as a mapping parameter from its HEM system. Dighem's work is said to complement airborne magnetic intensity surveys, since the HEM estimate is independent of remanent magnetism and magnetic latitude effects. Gravity and Magnetic Methods Probably one of the most innovative techniques in geophysics in 1981 was the use of airborne gravity surveys for both mining and petroleum exploration. The Carson group is using a modified, shipborne LaCoste-Romberg platform in helicopters. Data accuracies to 0.5 milligal have been achieved by flying gridded surveys. Although this airborne method is expensive-up to $186/ km ($300/line-mile)-the geophysical community has been excited by initial results. On the ground, the portable proton-precession magnetometers are becoming sophisticated. Both GeoMetrics and EDA recently introduced field magnetometers having data storage and processing capabilities. This development should greatly increase the productivity of ground-magnetic surveys. Seismic Methods Development of high-resolution seismic techniques continued in 1981. These techniques have primarily been directed toward coal studies for fault detection. OYO Instruments introduced their McSEIS-1500 seismic data acquisition system in 1981. This device contains a 24-channel recording capability, with digital output to 256-kbyte floppy disks. The high-speed data transfer using the disk media is considered a desirable feature. Borehole Methods The general decrease in uranium exploration, where borehole logging is extensively used, probbly led to the overall decline of geophysical logging activity in the minerals industry. However, a number of new sondes and logging systems were introduced in 1981: • Mount Sopris recently introduced their Series III logging system. This microprocessor-controlled unit records up to four channels of data on nine-track or cassette magnetic tape. The logging package is relatively light-weight, so helicopter transport to mountainous or roadless exploration sites is possible. (Both the Edcon and Woodware-Clyde consulting groups offer "slinging" capabilities for their Mount Sopris units.) Mount Sopris is continuing work on their 500-mm-diam (2¬in-diam) spectral gamma-ray sonde. This tool is expected to be available soon. • Owl Technical "slim-downed" its successful digital deviation probe to 380-mm (1.5-in) outside diameter. This new sonde will also measure inclinations up to 80° from the vertical, as compared with its older instrument that could measure inclinations to 30°. • A magnetic susceptibility sonde was introduced in the US by the OYO Instruments group. This Kappalog sonde contains two aircored coils for measurements slightly affected by thermal changes within the borehole. Several refractory sulfide and carbonaceous gold ores were examined to determine whether microbial pretreatment could be used to enhance gold recovery. Test samples were biologically leached using unique, thermophilic microorganisms to solubilize iron sulfide minerals. Gold recovery from sulfide ores and concentrates was enhanced following pretreatment with the thermophiles; responses varied widely for the individual materials. Although bioleaching had little effect on the preg robbing characteristics of the carbonaceous gold ores, cyanidation of the bioleached residues yielded higher gold recoveries than cyanidation of the native ore. By combining bioleaching with abiotic processes designed to inhibit preg robbing, gold recoveries of 83-98% were obtained from carbonaceous ores yielding 10-50% gold recovery by direct cyanidation.

The subject of this paper is particle population balance models (PBM) that describe mineral impact crushing behavior; it is mainly concerned with the selection and fragmentation distribution function due to their importance in this context. The data obtained by Datta (1999) by applying impact pendulum testing to single limestone particles, used by Austin (2002, 2004a and 2004b) to obtain the principal parity of fragmentation functions, were processed in order to compare them with the results of other authors, such as Nikolov (2002 and 2004) and Vogel and Peukert (2003 and 2005) so as to increase knowledge of impact crushing. From this data it has been possible to obtain the performance models of the principal parameters of fragmentation function, thereby reducing the number of experiments necessary to model the impact crushing process. The authors also propose a simplification of the selection function model posited by Austin (2002).

The coal industry in the United States has undergone significant economic changes during the past six years. The price of coal remained relatively constant from 1950 to 1969 (See Figures 1 and 2). Steam coal prices tripled and metallurgical coal prices doubled from 1969 to 1974. This price structure has created a new economic environment for coal preparation. Contributing factors to these price trends include: ? Coal Mine Health and Safety Act of 1969 ? Mid-East oil embargo of 1973 ? United Mine Workers of America contract agreements ? Productivity decrease (tons per man-day basis) ? Environmental Protection Agency regulations The increased value of coal justifies additional capital investment in cleaning facilities to optimize yield. Current trends include recovery of existing slurry ponds and recleaning of refuse. Coal preparation plant product yield and quality must be evaluated in terms of the amount of capital expended and cost of operation. Therefore, it is advantageous to optimize the plant product based on clean coal selling price and rate of return on investment.

"Feldspar may represent 60% of the earth’s crust, but the mineral does not exist in a pure state. It is generally associated with quartz, iron containing minerals such as mica, and titanium containing minerals such as rutile. Feldspar itself can even exist in different lattices from those containing sodium to various divalent ions. As such, its beneficiation has become a process that is quite complicated, when compared to the beneficiation of other minerals. It is this complexity that has made feldspar beneficiation dependent on tailor made reagents to successfully yield the industry specified feldspar products. This paper reviews the mineralogical variations found from two feldspar mines and the development of collectors to specifically target a Fe+Ti concentration of < 0.05%, while maintaining a feldspar recovery greater than 90%.INTRODUCTION Feldspar is a class of aluminum silicates that represents the most abundant mineral on earth (Vidyadhar, 2002). This class of mineral can further be defined by the types or concentrations of cations present in the crystal lattice, MAlSi3O8 (M = K, orthoclase and microcline; M = Na, Albite; M = Ca, Anorthite) (Heyes, 2012). Feldspar is most commonly mined and processed for either the alumina used in glass making or for the alkalis used in ceramics. The alumina is known to improve product hardness, durability, and resistance to chemical corrosion. The alkalis act as flux, which means they not only lower the melting temperature of the mineral mixture, but also assist in connecting the other components present in ceramics. It was stated in 2009 that the world production of feldspar was in excess of 18.3 million tons produced, with the majority coming from China, Italy, and Turkey. Raw feldspar is typically found with quartz, iron containing minerals such as mica, titanium containing minerals such as rutile, and other feldspar minerals (Celik, 2001). Quartz is stated as having a negative effect on the melting point of the feldspar, whilst the iron and titanium based mineral contaminants are known to have negative effects on color and quality of the product produced; these mineral contaminants must therefore be separated prior to application (Barns, 1997 & Celik, 2001). Mineral flotation and magnetic separation are the most common means of feldspar beneficiation. However, conditions vary greatly from mineral contaminant to mineral contaminant (Table 1). Some literature suggests feldspar can be floated with an amine, but this generally yields lower than acceptable recoveries and often still requires the magnetic separation of iron based minerals to achieve the desired grade (Amarante, 1997 & Heyes, 2012). Feldspar flotation can be further improved with the addition of hydrofluoric acid (HF) as a silica depressant and feldspar surface modifier, but this still requires the removal of some of the other minerals first. Rutile can be floated with an anionic fatty acid collector at a pH range of 7-8 or with a petroleum sulfonate at a pH < 4 (Celik, 2001), while mica can be floated with a petroleum sulfonate or an amine collector at a pH of 3.5."

"The Cerro Verde copper-molybdenum mining complex is located near Arequipa, Peru. A 108,000 t/d copper concentrator (C1 concentrator) commenced operation in late 2006 and was debottlenecked to a 120,000 t/d capacity in 2011. A feasibility study, initiated in May 2010, assessed the potential for expanding the processing rate of the large Cerro Verde sulfide reserve via the installation of a second, stand-alone, concentrator (C2 concentrator) capable of processing a nominal 240,000 t/d ore. The feasibility study was successful and the project advanced through engineering, permitting and construction. Ramp up to nameplate capacity was ahead of schedule. The overall project was completed on schedule and within budget. The details of the project and supporting components are described. The design philosophy and design basis of the concentrator facilities are discussed as are factors that influenced the concentrator layout. Risk mitigation features included in the design are reviewed. The factors that drove the successful and rapid ramp up to nameplate capacity are discussed. Operational experiences in the first year of plant operation and project lessons learned are described. INTRODUCTION/BACKGROUND Sociedad Minera Cerro Verde S.A.A. (SMCV) operates a copper mine near Arequipa in southern Peru. Small scale operations operated intermittently until 1970 when the deposit reverted to the ownership of Minero Perú S.A (Peruvian government). Minero Perú S.A. commenced mining and processing of oxide reserves in 1972 and placed an SX-EW plant into production in 1976. The ownership of the property has changed hands several times over the years. Minero Perú sold Cerro Verde to Cyprus Climax Metals in 1994. Cyprus was acquired by Phelps Dodge in 1999. Freeport-McMoRan (FCX) acquired Phelps Dodge in 2007. Several studies were undertaken during the 1990’s that tried to establish the economic justification to process the large primary sulfide resource that underlies the surface oxide deposit. None of these studies produced an economic conclusion until a feasibility study was completed by Phelps Dodge and SMCV in 2004. This study provided the economic justification for the construction of a 108,000 t/d concentrator during 2005 and 2006. The key to the success of this study was identifying a water source that was sufficient to support processing economies of scale. Concentrator operations commenced in late 2006. The original design production rate of 108,000 t/d was achieved on a 30 day moving average basis on the 266th day after ore was first introduced. During 2009, studies and evaluations were performed that had the objective of addressing observed concentrator bottlenecks to allow a production rate of 120,000 t/d to be achieved. The 120,000 t/d figure represents the sustainable production limits associated with the installed primary crusher and tailing thickeners which would have been prohibitively expensive to upgrade. Debottlenecking activities were implemented during 2010 allowing sustained production rates of 120,000 t/d to be achieved."

It has been reported previously that dolomite samples from different locations showed varying flocculation behavior with Poly(ethyleneoxide) (PEO). In this study it is determined that palygorskite associated with the Florida dolomite samples is responsible for their flocculation with PEO. A detailed characterization of the dolomite samples from different locations and its relevance to flocculation with PEO is discussed.

It is commonly recognized that seismicity can be induced by rock failures or slip along geologic structures around mining excavations. The unpredictable nature of these events and their proximity to the working area may raise safety concerns in underground mining operations. Modeling can be a useful tool for estimating seismic potential for a given mine layout, but the challenge is to detect a seismic event and estimate its intensity in the model. One well-documented approach is to monitor the variation in the energy content of the model and record potentially damaging seismic events when there is a significant release of energy. Researchers from the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) employed this approach using 3DEC modeling software to simulate the anomalous seismic events that occurred in a deep longwall mine in Virginia in 2005. A four-panel model of the mine was constructed utilizing a 2D cross section at the location of the mining face at the time of the event. Seismic potentials associated with the development of each panel are evaluated by recording the seismic energy released during the simulation. The results demonstrate the occurrence of two relatively significant events during the mining of the last panel, which are consistent with the historical observations at the mine.

The San Luis deposit is one of the few documented gold deposits on a detachment surface. This paper presents mineralogic and geochemical data that was gathered to characterize the mineralization, classify the ore deposit, and provide details of the ore forming process. Included are data on the paragenesis; alteration-mineral assemblages major and trace element geochemistry, and fluid inclusions. The San Luis deposit occurs on the western slope of the Sangre de Cristo Mountains adjacent to the San Luis Basin about 5 miles northeast of the town of San Luis in Costillo County, south-central Colorado. Mineralization was discovered in the district in the early 17th century. Production began in 1890 on lead-silver ores from which the district took the name the old name of "El Plomo". From 1897 through 1934 gold was intermittently produced. Battle Mountain Gold Company took an option on the property in 1987 and proved on ore body comprising an eastern block that has 1,277,300 t ore at a grade of 1.68 g/t and a western block of 9,744,000 t with a grade of 1.34 g/t. Production began in 1990. A companion paper by Benson (1994) describes the San Luis district and the ore body, hence the reader is referred to this or Robert and David (1990) for details of the geology from which the following is summarized.

The Chimney Hollow Reservoir Project (CHRP) is located southwest of Loveland, Colorado. CHRP is a component of the Windy Gap Firming Project, operated by the Municipal Subdistrict of the Northern Colorado Water Conservancy District. The inlet/outlet tunnel (IOT) for CHRP contains a reinforced concrete lined alve Chamber with PC membrane waterproong that was ecavated via seuential ecavation method to a diameter of feet. The IOT was ecavated using both drill and blast and road header with ground support consisting of steel sets, rock bolts, wire mesh and shotcrete. The IOT will withstand 300 feet of water head and rock ll surcharge load from the dam embankment constructed over the tunnel.

Despite the seeming benefits decoupling pyrite and arsenopyrite minerals present in practice, little success has been achieved. The present study presents possible process routes for attaining selective flotation broadly capitalizing on differential oxidation between these minerals, and the use of a chelating collectors. The best performance was achieved with dithionocarbamate application following copper activation, yielding 81.4% arsenopyrite and 37% pyrite recovery. Preaeration followed by staged addition of xanthate produced 76% arsenopyrite and 31% pyrite recovery while reverse flotation of pyrite after H2O2 addition gave rise to rejection of 66% pyrite accompanied with 24% arsenopyrite.
